While visiting family in Minnesota, my cousin showed us a Blue Heron rookery. It was an absolutely amazing thing to see. I even saw a couple of babies up in the nests.

Couple Poses

As many of you know already I’m a professional fashion and portrait photographer and in this post I want to talk about how to photograph couples and how NOT to photograph couples. The first thing you want consider is how you want to light your subjects and whether you want to light your subjects with one to four lights or you may just want to use natural light. The second thing you want to think about is poses, remember when you are photographing couples you want to show them together not apart, so don’t photograph them being disinterested in one another. Try posing them together and embracing each other in the photograph, also try to capture their personalities in the picture as well so you can make the picture more authentic. The first two of the three photos will show the proper way to shoot couples and the last is a wrong way to shoot couples.

This picture is a perfect example of what I’m talking about when I say embrace. Notice how the couple is close to one another, the man has his arms around the woman and the woman has her hand on his right arm. Both subjects are smiling at the camera which shows happiness between the couple. This was shot in Nossi College of Art in Nashville, Tenn.

This photo shows even more emotion than the previous one. They’re kissing which shows their love for one another and once again the woman has her hand on the mans chest which shows how they truly feel about one another. This type photo will make your clients happy and will stay with them for a lifetime. This was shot using one alien bee in downtown Nashville.

This is NOT a good example of how to photograph couples. First of all the couple are NOT embracing one another. Second the poses is strange and unflattering and they’re not touching and you can tell that there is no connection between them at all. If I showed you this photo you wouldn’t be able to tell that they are a couple at all. This photo was shot using natural light at Nossi College of Art in Nashville, TN.
