I feel like I don't know how to be a niche fan on Web 2.0. Like seriously, where would I go to find Prince of Tennis musicals later than Rokkakumyu? Where are the torrent sites that somehow never gave me a virus or called the FBI down on me? Does that kind of thing still exist or are they gone forever?
Thankfully I found the DVDs I'd burned years ago and they're mostly not corrupted, so I have Dream Live 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, Fudomine, St. Rudolph, side Yamabuki, Hyoutei, and Rokkaku (in a baffling mix of raws and different languages' subs), so that's a pretty good collection. Still, it's a little sad to think that my proficiency has decreased so much I wouldn't have any idea where to go for that.
#prince of tennis#tenimyu#did rikkaimyu have good songs?#because i'm missing out if rikkaimyu had good songs#rikkai's members had great CHARACTER songs#like yukimura's “shinjitsu” and “jibun ni shika mienai hikari”#sanada's “houkou”#and marui and jackal's “windy road”#so rikkaimyu definitely could also have had good songs...#hmm

Kubota Hidetoshi Range Analysis
So. A year after the last one, and a year after I said I'd do my boy, we're finally doing Hide! Hide's will be interesting, because while he's often made to sing in a higher key (and certainly capable of it), we've also had multiple instances of key adjustments (and him requesting key adjustments) to better fit his register. So let's go~
The Verdict
From what I've found, Hide has a possible, proven range of A2-B4, just over 2 octaves. His comfortable upper range, however, most likely ends around E3. I do think he could go lower, due to the ease with which he hits his lowest notes, however no evidence has been found to prove this.
The Evidence
I think the benefit of waiting so long to do this one is that now, I have a rather vast range of materials to check through; this analysis is brought to you by my admittedly too large collection of Hide DVDs.
Lower Limit (A2)
So, I started my journey here with the Tenimyus, specifically Petenshi Da and Illusion, specifically the Dream Live 2014 version.
I came here first for one reason, and that is that this was the first known instance of a song's key being changed to suit him - his performance in Rikkai Nationals is in Masa's key, but when he got to perform it in concert for Dream Live, it was roughly a semitone lower. Suited him far better in the key change, but he killed both versions. Petenshi Da had a more subtle change - the harmonies that Bachon and Masa did originally were switched, as Mikati more carries Masa's high tone, so Hide has the low harmony.
That said. Illusion from DL2014 gave me a low of D3 (after the first mm ahh ecstasy part), and Petenshi's low harmony goes to E3. Decent starting point, though I did feel we could go lower.
And I was rewarded, almost immediately, with OP1 during the Baron Dublin part, roughly 25 minutes in - on the "even if my hands are tainted with sin" line, Hide's low harmony goes down to a C3. Hell yes. Same with Oath, his harmony is a C3. I don't believe we will get lower than that in a myu, and certainly not on a solo song, as the lowest we get with any baritone in Morimyu is around a C3-D3 (Arterton, Shunly, sort of Izawa too?). That said, I do think Hide is capable of lower.
AND I WAS RIGHT! Valentine Blue, my favourite cosy stage, and the owner of my heart. Pretty, cosy Hide hits a A2 in that, as the first note, in a really cute acapella song that had me melting. (Hearing him sing "you will never walk alone" just. Dammit I love him.)
It was right about here I remembered Hakumyu. Please understand this whole thing was written up, and all the research done, with the Bluray literally sitting directly in front of me. Like between my arms as I typed in front of me. Idk how I forgot it. Either way, checked that. We got an Eb3 in the first song, not a lot that can apply here, and I got to freak out about Hide's growls and pretty long hair again. I'm considering that a win.
Higher Limit (B4)
Okay, so starting (as last time) with Illusion, but this time the Rikkai Nationals version, we got a high of G4. He hit it, and hit it beautifully, but I have no doubt that this note was why the song changed key. Petenshi Da wasn't far off, giving us a high of F#, sung alongside Mikati.
My next plan was to head to Morimyu, specifically OP1. Hide had mentioned in the OP3 bonus DVD that he had requested after OP1 to have his parts lowered, so it stood to reason that the first myu would have some of his highest parts. That said, the highest we got was an F#4, found in The Three Brothers' Secret.
Now by this point, I was fairly certain that I'd well and truly found that highest note. But I had more Hide stages with more Hide songs. And I cannot resist a good Hide song. Reki Tame Live 3 had a song in it, which gives us a more recent iteration of that G4. Sengoku Night Blood was similar in that effect, no new info, but he hit that G4 beautifully (and the growl earlier in the song? hello).
The only one I think may have something higher is High Card - the intro song, Trickster, has a B4 at the end of its chorus. Hide is clearly singing at that point, but there are so many people singing at that point that he can't be audibly identified. Gotta love an intense group song, amirite. Similarly, the ending song Squad! has a Bb4 in it's lower harmony on that chorus - I have to assume that would have been Hide's part. A watch of the backstages proves that both he did sing those notes, and that they were stable, so I must include them. Go off my legend.
EDIT: The ending song of Host-Chan THE FINAL (I believe its called Gimmie Your Love) also contains a B4 in its chorus, and on the show where he wins, Hide can be audibly identified. He hits it, and good job to him, but he does sound like he’s straining for it.
I didn't realise his range would be so wide, going in to this - he's rivaling Shogo, and quite easily at that. I would be so curious to see how low he could go, given opportunity to go outside the Standard Musical Range, cause the dexterity seen on those Valentine Blue notes was amazing to see. This was such a fun excuse to just. flip through a bunch of Hide stages for fun; I've been focusing too much on trying (badly) to sub High Card that I didn't give myself time for all the other pretty Hides. Anyway, we'll see how long it takes me to do another, and who exactly will pop up... perhaps Kenken? I wanna rewatch the Cocoa Otoko stuff. See ya later~

extracted from episode 30 production notes.
Wait a sec!!!!! There's been a mistake!!!!!!!
We didn't think things would escalate to such a terrifying result!!!!!!!!
At first, we approached this episode with a very causual attitude. Who'd thought things would end up like this...
You could call it a tennis incident. The Zenkaiger Tennis Incident.
It started when we were stuck on deciding what kind of World should come next.
"What should we do about the next World?"
"The episode is going to air in September, that's autumn."
"If we're talking about autumn, there's the saying 'autumn of sports'. By the way, our dark prince a.k.a. Sekoguchi-kun¹ apparently used to be in the tennis club, and has stated that he'd like to play tennis."
"That's it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Yup. Completely serious progression.
Tennis is the sport of gents and ladies, perfectly suited for the ever elegant Zenkaiger.
As long as we have enough rackets and won't need to use frying pans to mimic playing tennis, then this should be a very serious sports episode!!
We definitely didn't barge down this path only because we have a Ten*myu² actor as a regular and want to make a tennis episode!
Tennis without pointless plays. Nn... ahh... ecstac-³
Let's hold it in for now.
We'll explain the references in depth in the second half...
[...]
From the start, we decided to make a tennis episode because Sekoguchi Ryou said he could play tennis.
Let's see what our dark prince is capable of!! And thus it was decided that the final sweet action would be Stacey's to claim.
However, there was no way that our cast members who have been thoroughly infected by Zenkai would just sit there and watch!
This was our biggest overlook.
Our script was already chaotic to start with! Then there are also Komagine⁴ and Mashiko⁵, determined to leave their giant clawmarks all over this show. Thanks to them, things started to spiral out of control.
[...]
But above that, Kiita-kun also started using his tennis outfit.
It was very memorable, how with each passing scene, he lifted his shorts higher and higher to better show off his legs. You really didn't have to go this close to the edge......
Leaving the man trying to make his shorts even shorter aside, on the other hand, we have aniki on his own looking troubled about something.
This was on the day we held a tennis tournament by that familiar rock quarry.
There stood Mashiko, deep in thought, a rather solemn expression on his face.
We were worried that he might've run into some kind of big trouble, so we reached out to him about it, and then...
"Your face looks so intense! Did something happen? Is everything alright?"
"Oh! I'm alright! I was just thinking about what kind of reference I should sneak in in a moment."
Hey, what kind of worry is that?
It's not like you have to make some kind of reference!!
[...]
Regardless, ponytail Stacey... it should be illegal.
There's no choice but to nod along to Cutanner-Suzuki's⁶ improv line "His hair looks good like that".
Sekoguchi-kun, who said that he wanted to play tennis, carried on with filming with near zero mistakes! Exceptional!
Let's go! Esteemed prince of darkness AND tennis!!!!!
(SuperKaiser-san messing around.)
¹ Sekoguchi Ryou, Stacey's actor.
² Tenimyu, short for Prince of Tennis Musical. Mashiko Atsuki played the character Shiraishi Kuranosuke in the 3rd Season.
³ A lyric from the song Ecstacy, sung by Mashiko's character Shiraishi.
⁴ Komagine Kiita, Kaito's actor.
⁵ Mashiko Atsuki, Zox's actor.
⁶ Suzuki Ryouta, Cutanner's voice actor.

Ripp to all those tenimyu videos that have gotten taken down
Were they technically illegal distribution of copyrighted/recorded material and its completely fair for them to be taken down? Yes. Am i still upset about it? Yes
Like some of those videos have been up for over fifteen years and i watched them at least once a year since like elementary. They were still up during the pandemic. And last year. But i guess this year Youtube finally cracked down on them.
It’s real sad because i really enjoyed the songs and the choreography and watching the cast and stuff. But like there’s no legal digital way for me to even listen to the songs since there’s no spotify/itunes album. And the video production as ive stated was never uploaded online for you to bug via amazon videos, itunes, etc.
Like if they had a digital distribution of it i would totally buy it regardless of if it was subbed or not. But there isn’t.
And there’s not many people selling the physical dvd’s/cd’s of any of the productions especially like the first season with the first four casts.
(No videos of Crystal, Ice Emperor, Victory, now and forever, do your best, etc. Missing out on some really nice/beautiful songs. Seriously Crystal was really pretty)
#real sad times#gonna go dig out my old hard drives#see if i downloaded any of the YT vids back in the day#did past younger me have the foresight to realize this would have happened eventually#prince of tennis#tenipuri#tenimyu#prince of tennis the musical

CURRENT ASK GAME
Tagged by @troubled-mind thank you! („• ᴗ •„)
Current time: about 8 pm as I start
Current activity: drinking tea and pretending to write
Currently thinking about: if there are fun stuffs to do in Salt Lake City (most probably), and the logistics of this year Going Home Trip.
Current favourite song:
That's actually an old favorite but I have been falling asleep with it for the last few days so I think I will go with 最初と最後の空へ by Saito Takumi
youtube
It's one of the very first songs of his I heard (after watching him in Tenimyu) and it always does something to me. It's on one of the very first japanese album I bought on the net!
(ok and just bc I am obsessed with it, the music playing during the museum scene in Ferris Bueller's Day Off)
Currently reading:
"Jesus and John Wayne: How White Evangelicals Corrupted a Faith and Fractured a Nation" by Kristin Kobes du Mez, "Queer Korea' edited by Todd A. Henry, and "Flux" by Jinwoo Chong. I uh, am also making my way through the Neil/Nick chapters of book 1 and 2 of Love Syndrome.
Currently watching:
I am finally back to actually watching things so my active watchlist includes > Laws of Attraction, I Feel You Linger in the Air, Love Class 2, Mysterious Lotus Casebook, Kiseki dear to me, and Love in Translation. If everything go well, I will add My Personal Weatherman to the list for my evening, and given the way the obsession is going, there is a high risk of a rewatch of Love Syndrome III over the week end (yes I just finished it two days ago, yes, i know, well. I'm not the one in charge here i'm afraid.)
Current favorite character:
Oh boy. That changes by the minute so uh... alright I've been (mostly) good with the songs so I'll cheat here I guess lol
Nick (& Neil but Nick most of all) from Love Syndrome III who lives rent free in my head right now
and I am absolutely charmed by Tag in Love in Translation look at that little ray of sunshine
Current WIP:
As always, those may forever be wip but I am trying to write/finish the two different ideas I had for what Thee and Tanthai did between episode 6 and 7, and I am trying to draw Mr Ruthless Night of the Horny (for stupid purposes obviously) (can you guess who is affected with incurable LoA brainrot)
If you feel so inclined, I will tag @scienceoftheidiot @benkaaoi @petrichoraline @howdydowdy and @gillianthecat
#I am back on a High and Obsessive Media Consumption wave since ten-ish days#so I have stuffs to fill the questions but an even harder time picking lol#randomly found out that Kokliang was playing in Love Syndrome III so I watched that and unsurprisingly his is my fave character lol#(have been listening to Polycat's album on your rec and been loving it!)#tag games

the last batch of MVs are here... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0p3cP8xGlv4
and I'm quite disappointed lol. It's funny how Niram's is a dance version and I totally thought it'd be Tsumuri's song that would get a dance version.
Tsumuri's MV is cute tho.
Nothing can beat Keiwa's MV lol
Tsumuri/Kokoro's is very cute, yeah.
I'm actually quite fond of Niram's lol. And I'm not surprised he got the dance version since Ryo Kitamura was a stage performer (he's in the BnHA stage plays as Todoroki and the Naruto ones as Sai). You can really see that flair that only a stage show performer has, I think. I'm actually looking forward to seeing his and Ryuga's full MVs the most, just for the dancing.
It does make me even saltier we never got Ryo Aoki or Junya Komatsu to do shit like this (the former is an alum of TeniMyu and the latter actually did stage shows almost exclusively until Revice)

hi hello, dropping in to share some tenipuri fun facts i have accumulated over the past few months :D
-junichi suwabe has sung koori no emperor as atobe
-he also sang one of his character songs with kato kazuki (sort of lol)
-you might already be aware of this one, but there are currently 5 tenimyu alumni who voice characters in the anime: hirofumi araki (seigaku 3rd inui) voices zaizen, mamoru miyano (ishida 1st) voices ryoga, hiroki aiba (seigaku 3rd fuji) voices irie, kei hosogai (hyotei B hiyoshi) voices kimijima, and ryosuke kato (rokkaku 1st kisarazu) voices tenjin in shinteni! aiba also played his character in shintenimyu
Aaahh, thank you for sharing all of this!!! Somehow I knew about that Koori no Emperor version but NOT about the other song! That's amazing. :D
I also only knew about Aiba voicing Irie but completely missed everyone else, lol. It's always so fun when different versions of Tenipuri cross into each other!

Pretending I wasn't properly in the PoT fandom as if this wasn't my LiveJournal icon for years:
And as if I don't have several PoT fanfics I'm dying to reread because I still remember them so fondly.
As if I haven't been RPing with the characters for years.
As if I didn't keep a piece of paper with printed lyrics in my pocket so I could revise my translation during work breaks so I could post them on animelyrics.com.
As if I don't still know the words of well over a hundred songs by heart.
As if I didn't show Tenimyu at my anime club.

Ikkei Yamamoto Range Analysis
I'm back with another installment of this absolute rabbithole, this time focusing on Ikkei. Now, noone's made any massive claims about the range of his vocals yet, so let's figure this out before anyone does, shall we?
The Verdict
Based on what we've seen through various stages and musicals, Ikkei has a range of C3-Ab4, roughly one and a half octaves. The upper end is more rarely heard though, with most of his songs landing at a high of F#4-G4.
The Evidence
Again, I used every possible musical I had featuring the man to analyse this, and as such there's a large concentration of Morimyu, as well as his Tenimyu run as part of the 7th Seigaku. It was a little interesting, as many of his songs in Tenimyu are group songs, so I didn't have all that many to go off there. I also had a copy of ENStars Track to Miracle, which I didn't realise until looking it up that he was in. The more you know. Instead of looking for an upper or lower in specific areas, I simply collected the highest and lowest notes in each song I analysed this time.
Lower Limit (C3)
So, I did start with Tenimyu, but the two I'd narrowed down for him (Unseen Thread and Fight&Win) both seemed on the high end of what I've heard him do, so I focused my efforts towards Morimyu.
This turned out to be a good idea, presenting me with lovely examples of his lower register. The songs were consistently hitting lows of D3 (Emotion and his duet with Fred in OP4) and Eb3 (Devotion and the Three Brothers' Secret), so I knew I was close.
But there was one final solo I wanted to look through, being OP1's A Hero's Qualification. Turned out to be a great idea - Ikkei hits his lowest note in there, at C3. Very impressed. 10/10.
Higher Limit (Ab4)
Okay, this one I was able to use the Tenimyu songs as a guide of how high to look for - Unseen Thread came in at an E4, and Fight&Win at an F#4, both of which aligned with what I had heard from him previously.
This was the point that I figured out his ENStars appearance, and managed to track down at least one of his songs - his first, which I believe was called Heartbeat by Trick Star (starting at 7 minutes in) came in at an F4, supporting my previous theories. Also the silver ponytail guy has me in a chokehold, if anyone cares to educate?
It was then I turned back to Morimyu, which gave us some higher ones. First to exceed it was Devotion (which was first because please let's be honest That's My Favourite), where he hits a G4 as part of his higher harmony at the end.
The next to exceed it was The Three Brothers' Secret, giving us our highest note at Ab4, hit as they commit arson basically ehe. It is beautifully done, and rather strong, and I'm kind of curious as to whether he could go further, given the opportunity. But that's all I have evidence for as yet, so Ab4 is to be considered the highest proven limit of Ikkei's range.
What did surprise me is the sheer similarity between Shogo and Ikkei's possible ranges - Ikkei often seems just that much lower, and he's... not? That being said, he has a very rich lower register, and as he's often paired with people who can take the higher harmony (Eiji in the Tenimyu's, Shogo... always) he gets a lot of chances to show it - I also think Ikkei's lower tone kicks in earlier than Shogo's, though I'd have to check for that specifically to back it up. Was interesting in Kokoro wo Daite, though, because by putting his solo part between Hide and Izawa, he sounds rather high pitched; same thing happened in Devotion, where he took the high harmony against Hide's lower harmony... perception really is everything with this, and I mean, he sounds lovely either way slkdf.
With two of three brothers down, I kind of want to do Kubohide next - again, I'll have a fair bit to draw on between Morimyu and Tenimyu, and I could have sworn I had something else with him in there. We'll see I guess ehe. But thankyou for reading, and see you next time~

I’m having hardcore feelios.
Last night I randomly got a song stuck in my head from “Tenimyu” which is the musical version of the anime/manga “Prince of Tennis” and I honestly haven’t listened to any of these songs since I was in middle school!
And ouch. I went under the tags to see if this was still a thing and I’m legit crying! I used to be OBSESSED with a lot of these cast members and this musical and songs and now I don’t know any of the cast members! (Cause obviously they changed the cast!)
But like, the memories of learning all these songs and my sister and I would jam out to them and act out the scenes. I remember trying to find the videos (they were all professionally shot too!) where fans were kind enough to translate what they were saying and include subtitles! And all the interviews! There was even a game the cast members played and my sister and I memorized the game and tried playing it even though you need a group of people since it’s no fun playing with just 2 people and just adl;skfja;sdlkafjl!
Also, it was a bad idea for me to look this up on Youtube because now I’m tempted to go through all the videos and just watch them again??? 😭😭
#Personal#Tenimyu#this was my life all of middle school#along with W-inds#like wtf?#Why did this song randomly pop into my head?#Now I'm spiraling down memory lane#holy shit
