I know it's Black History month but she didn't know as many #braille contractions last fall. Since my student has Latino/Hispanic roots I'm including famous blind people of both cultures in this month's biographies in braille. She was fascinated by Jose Feliciano. We lingered on his website to hear his music and watch his videos. She said, "What?! I didn't know that blind people could write music!" Then she realized she knew one of his songs that she didn't know he wrote...that school children everywhere sing every Christmas! Since I have loved his music for decades, it was a good feeling to share him with her.
