HI so for the mota hockey au:

any out of pocket viral moments of the boys? magazine photoshoots press tours etc what are they like? are clegan out and proud or are they more like go on keep guessing?

Bucky has a LOT of notable moments. He's just a teenage girl and puberty is so hard it makes him so hormonal.

He gets sent to the penalty box for BLATANT hooking one time which is a pretty iconic out of pocket moment you dont really get tendys serving penalties. usually another play subs in for their penalty but refs are prob like Fuck you Bucky you're such a menace you pay the price.

He drops the gloves with a rival teams goon that absolutely boards the fuck out of Gale a la Scheifele/Evans hit. Normally we love a good Goaltender fight but this hit was too scary. people still take notice bc they're like look at Bucky defending his BOY

John is a very Seguin type character. As I mentioned he has a similarly nude sports illustrated photoshoot. But also very messy party phase with Curt much like Segs and Marchy

theyre messy bitches who know how to have fun okay.

He's got a LOT of really famous soundbites, just the most out of pocket shit professional yapper w the cameras fr. it's mostly him hitting on Curt and Gale. There's a mic'd up clip of him singing "Baddie Friend" by kevo jefe perfectly word for word.

Gale's really bad with the cameras he clams up a ton and just kinda defaults to hockey mumbo-jumbo. he does get one Hockey social media clip where he gets to talk about space and that gets him a little excited. The clip of his one skate goal does some pretty big numbers just because Holy Fuck Dude.

he gets gif'd a lot for chewing on his mouthguard like Tkachuk. nasty boy. the fangirls go a little feral over those ones.

In terms of their relationships there is some plot stuff I'm cooking but John doesn't really care for the most part. he isn't ashamed but hes also like well im here to play hockey and im single nobody needs to be privy to my sexuality so he's kinda just closeted bc hes too lazy to do otherwise. you bet ur ass he wears pride tape every game and practice after Gary fucking shittman tried to institute the ban

Gale is definitly closeted and it's a plot point in the au his journey with it. hes not closeted to himself but there are factors making him NOT want to be open with things.

I do think once theyre established in their team, they both have the C and a couple cups under their belt; when gale is ready - yeah they sit down with management and draw up a coming out plan. The team is so supportive of them they love their Bucks squared.

Exactly how screwed are the sharks, the flames, and the oilers?

You can't see me but I am RUBBING MY HANDS IN DELIGHT at this ask. Nothing I love more than talking about why teams suck. As always, meet you under the cut! 💜

(Also, sorry this took so long! Had to make a presentation on the Chinese Super League for sports diplomacy and it siphoned my will to live.)

Do I have you? Great! Okay. Let's go one by one.

CALGARY FLAMES: CANDLE IN THE WIND

I, for one, never got the hype behind the Flames. Every pundit in the entire NHL was saying "Oh, the Flames are going to have a massive bounceback year, last year was a down year for everyone!" And now look at them. 3-7-1 to start the season with a mere 7 points in 11 games.

Spoiler alert: Trading your best forward in points production to literal Satan for a single corn chip is not going to help you be competitive. Who'd'a thunk it?

In addition, there seems to be a major coaching problem. On theory, this team should be solid. Maybe not top of the league good, but solid enough to make a wildcard spot at least. But you watch the systems at play and they just don't work with the players. For instance, Huberdeau is an east-west player being forced to play a north-south system. He can't do what he does best, make plays, because the current north-south system simply won't allow it. Firing Sutter was supposed to fix this locker room. It only seems to have made the problems worse. Christ, Zadorov is apologizing to the fans because they're playing that shittily.

How screwed are they? Probably a solid 8/10. Markstrom seems to have bounced back, but the team in front of him has not, tanking his save percentage because the defense simply cannot defend. We're being treated to a classic Huberdeau and Kadri Disappearing Act (2-4-6 and -12; 1-4-5 and -12). Mangiapane and Andersson have both gotten suspensions already for no god damn reason. All extension talks (Lindholm and Hanifin chief among them) have been suspended. It's chillingly possible this team will have to sell big at the deadline to get any value out of their expiring UFAs - and then what? You've got a few good pieces (Cary, Sharangovich, Wolf) that can lead your retool, but you've also got anchor weights in massively underperforming contracts, like the aforementioned Huberdeau's, that come with no-move clauses and are just such bad deals that even if those clauses were waived, who'd take them?

EDMONTON OILERS: BULLS ON PARADE

I think if you told anyone in July that the Edmonton Oilers were going to start their season 2-7-1 in 10 games, you would be laughed out the door. And yet.

I do have to preface this by saying yes, McDavid was out for several games, and when you're without the best player in the NHL, it gets tougher to win games. But fuck, man. The Devils are now down BOTH their top six centers for the foreseeable future and yet they're still managing to win games. You know why? DEPTH SCORING. Something that the Oilers have not had since seemingly the 80s. If your game plan revolves so strongly around one guy, chances are you'll be fucked anyway if that guy goes down.

Also, Campbell cannot stop a beach ball in net. Skinner isn't much better. How much of this is the defense and how much is just the goalies sucking? Unclear, but it is NOT a good sign. Although the Oilers mostly work under "outscore your opponent before they outscore you", you want to be able to make SOME timely saves. Neither tendy is giving any hope recently.

And all this can ultimately be traced back to Ken Holland fucking this team over with contracts. Nurse did not deserve that much. Kane is questionable at best. Campbell? Christ. And then you have no cap room to sign actually decent bottom sixers and then wonder why they're getting shelled. Why is Sam Gagner, a random legacy Oiler on a league minimum contract, on your second line? Make it make sense!

The thing is - you CAN win if you have a few guys getting paid the big bucks. Just look at Vegas for an example of that. You CAN'T win if you have a few guys getting paid the big bucks and almost no depth beyond your top line where you stack McDavid and Draisaitl to try to get SOMETHING going. You can't doubleshift those two across the entire lineup. I know, it sucks.

SAN JOSE SHARKS: COLD WATER

How screwed are they? I'll give them a 6/10. We're seeing the "or bust" part of "cup or bust". Can they turn it around? They have McJesus. Anything is POSSIBLE when you have McJesus. But it's not looking pretty, at all. I bet they end up in the wildcard hunt, or close to it. Just enough to maybe make the playoffs but too exhausted to do anything else.

Remember, Draisaitl's contract is up after 24-25. McDavid, 25-26. Will they want to stay in this garbage fire? If one, or God forbid both, ask to be traded, this team better channel the early 2010s and tank hard.

And now we reach the ultimate lolcow. These guys STINK. 0-10-1 in 11 games. .045 points percentage. The only point they managed to get was because Blackwood stood on his motherfucking HEAD in game 2.

But then you have contracts like Hertl, Vlasic, and Couture, which you can't move and which will weigh down the franchise for years while it tries to rebuild. What are you going to do with them? How will you get rid of them?

What's the problem? More to the point: What isn't??? There's zero star power on the entire roster. The defense doesn't know how to defend and the offense can't score against a Shooter Tutor, much less an actual NHL goalie. The goalies... they're trying! I think! Give them credit. And Quinn's trying, maybe, to coach? But when do you kick his ass to the curb too, just to try to put some life back into that lineup? That is the world's deadliest team. It's like hockey is a punishment to them!

FanDuel is running bets on when they will finally win their first regular season game. That's how ass they are. I wish I were kidding.

On top of all this, the locker room seems like it's going up in flames. Remember the Nucks' 10-1 beating of the Sharks? Kahkonen, the Sharks' tendy, got injured after the sixth goal, when Kuzmenko ran into him. Kuzmenko and the Canucks made sure Kahkonen was alright and that it wasn't a major injury. The Sharks? They just went back to the bench!

This unironically is probably the worst team in my lifetime, and maybe for decades before I was born too. They're just so BAD. There's no redeeming reason to watch Sharks games at all except to laugh at the Sharks as they get 10 goals dumped on them.

How screwed are they? 10/10*. I'm sorry, but fucking Zetterlund is leading your team in goals. ZETTERLUND. I cannot name ONE player on that roster who I would send to an All-Star Game. Maybe Blackwood, if he doesn't crumble into fucking dust first. And knowing how injury prone he is, he just might.

But this is a 10/10 with an asterisk. And here's why: * They WANT to be bad. The worse they do this year, the better their chances for Celebrini or whoever is the first overall. That's the idea of the Shark Tank. And if that's the goal, it's being executed perfectly.

timeline : december, 2021

synopsis : it's time for chan to face the consequences of his decision towards inka.

« can we talk? » inka's voice was sharp, as sharp as the blade of a kitchen knife. chan frowned, turning his face to the younger woman who had her arms crossed against her chest. she seemed preoccupied, hurt, angry, but the leader could not say why.

when she turned to go to a room farther away, out of sight, he trotted behind her to join her, not really sure what she suddenly wanted to talk to him about. as he locked the door behind him, inka had her back to him, sighing loudly enough for him to hear her.

« so.. » she began softly, finally deigning to face chan who still seemed to be in total incomprehension, « when were you going to tell me? »

the young adult raised an eyebrow, tilting his head to the side to show his incomprehension. inka stuck her tongue against the inside of her cheek, trying her best not to strangle him. approaching little by little, she kept her arms crossed against her chest, almost digging her nails into her skin to avoid any inappropriate gestures. « you really don't know what i'm talking about? » she continued in a cold tone, which made the older man's blood run cold.as far as he could remember, he had only seen inka this scary and angry once — and he clearly didn't want to deal with her in those moments.

« if i tell you, lee minho and me, you understand a little more? » and suddenly, chan seemed to lose all his means, not knowing what to say or do. removing his hands from his pockets, he observed for a long time the furious look of the young woman facing him, and he understood that she knew everything, « listen, kalaya, i can- »

« uh uh, no. you listen to me. » she said in a nervous laugh, approaching him with a decided step, pointing her accusing index finger on his chest, « i would never have believed it coming from you, you can't even imagine how mad i am at you. »

chan didn't know what to say, he just stood there listening to her, accepting the fact that he had probably screwed up on this one. « not only did you not think for a second about the harm that this decision could do to me, but on top of that you asked minho not to tell me about your decision?! » — resumed inka with a cracking and broken voice, hitting his chest with her finger. it felt like stabbing to chan, who felt terribly guilty.

« i never thought you would put the safety of your career before the happiness of your friend, » suddenly, inka began to sob in anger, walking away from him and pacing the room, « of all the people around me, you are the last person i thought would do this to me, chan. »

chan felt his heart clench in his chest, like an insurmountable bad pain. his arms remained loose along his chest, while he dared to take a step towards the girl, who – unfortunately for him, took a step backwards.

« no, don't. i am extremely disappointed, you have no idea how much.. » sniffing with her back to him, inka tried to find a distraction outside to stop herself from crying, « you could have told me about it, everything would have been easier. »

« and what? would you have listened to me? » answered chan, who suddenly found himself quite annoyed. he knew he had made a difficult decision, but it was surely not the wrong one. biting her lip to keep from screaming, inka looked at the leader with venom in her eyes, shaking her head negatively, « of course not. that's why you talked to minho instead of me. »

« you're still a kid, you wouldn't have understood my decision. » he tried to defend himself, but the further we went, the more his words sank in. he had no real argument, and being gratuitously hurtful was not the answer. « i am still a kid? » — a scoff left the brunette's lips as she pointed her index at herself, raising an eyebrow brazenly.

chan sighed as he came to rub his temples, he was sorely missing his patient at the moment, this situation tending him bitterly. « listen kalaya, you had just debuted in our group, a love scandal would not have been good for our career. »

« oh come on, everyone has the right to be in love, and it's not because i'm a kpop idol that i don't have the right to be happy. » chan seemed to be really losing his patience, then he approached inka, placing his hands on her shoulders to hold her in place, despite her protests, « listen to me now. »

« you would have wanted to fuck up everything for a passing infatuation? people would not have taken you seriously anymore. » inka watched him for a long time, harshly and coldly, and he swore that if her eyes could shoot lightning, he would have been six feet under for a long time. then she pushed him as hard as she could, almost knocking him backwards. « minho wasn't just a passing infatuation, » she says while joining the door of the room, ready to leave, before she turns back a few seconds, « i was destroyed and you didn't care. »

« do you realize that i have waited a whole year to know the truth? that i spent entire nights crying and wondering what i had done wrong to make him stop loving me? do you realize how unhappy i was? » a sniff from the girl drew the boy's attention, who placed his sorry gaze on her tear-painted face, which made her instantly regret confiding in someone who didn't give a shit about her well-being, « forget that. you wouldn't understand. »

« but, you know what hurts me the most? the fact that you didn't even try to trust me. » furiously wiping the tears from her cheeks, kalaya bit her lip so hard that it end up bleeding, but she continued to speak all the same, ignoring the metallic taste that intruded in her mouth, « now that i understand that your career is more important than your friend's happiness, i don't want to deal with you anymore. i'm done. »

a sigh left her lips as she finally left the room, leaving a dejected chan behind. he felt bad, helpless and defeated, as if the whole weight of the world was crushed on his shoulders. he didn't know how he could fix things, but he had to find a solution as soon as possible, otherwise, everything could quickly get out of hand.

but apart from that, one question kept running through his head : what did she mean by, “i'm done”?

prefacing by saying I'm not talking entirely out of my ass here. I am a goalkeeper (mainly soccer though I have played for hockey before) and am the FIRST person to defend goalie mistakes and mishaps. but oh my god,,,

Freddie baby I love you. you're amazing but brind'amour CANNOT be playing you this often. he's fallen apart in the crease several times despite him saying he's fine. AND having him play on brand spankin new equipment? personally I would've rather rucked five miles than done that in a playoff game.

and listen man...I've been the sole goalkeeper on a team before and have had to play every single game for the entire season + postseason. it sucks. it's impossible to stay completely on top of your game when you're constantly playing, even if you assure coach that you're fine. and the thing is that Freddie isn't the only tendie!! pk & martin are very much available AND have proven themselves to be good players.

another problem is the fact that if you gave a backup gk, you HAVE to give them regular play time too or else their skill falls off. PRACTICES ≠ GAMES. I understand that pk's practicing regularly but you cannot replicate game intensity — especially playoff intensity — in practice. it's just not possible. it literally is not possible and it's insane to me that pk hasn't seen any ice time in like 20 games or something? idr.

anyway rod brind'amour PLEASE put another tendie in. I genuinely do not care if it's pk or martin at this point (though I adore pk and he has proven himself more on this team than martin has). Freddie needs a break and unfortunately that's starting to show more and more. he's still playing incredible hockey but that isn't gonna last forever when he's playing every single playoff game. playoff games are HARD. they're high-stakes and high-intensity. no goalie can keep everything consistent in that.

hello u18 anon here again it appears that I have given misinformation!! chloe primerano is actually the first female skater drafted by the whl not the first female in general to have been in the league in some way - there have been several tendies :) anyways just as an update she became the first defender in the history of the tournament to get a hatty today so she’s been having a pretty sick tourney

Croz is second string left ( bit of a grocery stick til he gets bumped from third to second with Douglass, then becomes a real Grinder)

Rosie's on first string with Buck (plays hard, passes well just an all around good guy)

Curt, final member of the first string trio (certified goon despite his height, sick dangle, nasty slapshot and his uppercut has claimed many a mans teeth)

^ original post of the AU but since this is no longer just a throwaway post lets talk about what these guys DO and also who else we got.

So hockey is a pretty wild sport. it's fast paced as hell, few real breaks or stoppages. You can be playing for 17 minutes straight sometimes and this is active play. you are RUNNING (well, skating)

Basic setup of a team:

You've got your starting Goaltender. usually the older more experienced of the two and then a backup. Usually the starting goalie plays the whole game sometimes they switch off halfway through. backup tendy is there in case and injury happens or the starting tendy is playing a shit game. Usually they'll have extra reserves they can call up (One year Penguins had to pull their 4th level backup dude was literally away at college and had to be flown in. he was good but mad inconsistent)

Bucky is starting goaltender, his backup is Jack Kidd.

Then you have your defensemen. All hockey players are big bois usually. these guys are the big boys of the big boys. total number of D-men per play is 2 and usually a team will run the same combos of two because some guys have better chemistry than others. Usually theres 3-4 sets (or strings) of defensemen. They're categorized by skill level. So first string are the best, fourth would be worst/the new guys. Sometimes they'll switch it up and throw a new guy with first or second string so he can get some schooling

I think for Dmen first string we've got Alex and Demarco They're a solid set-up and Demarco plays REALLY well off Bucky they know where each other is instinctually.

Forwards First string are USUALLy the star players of any team. they're generally the faces of the franchise though sometimes the goaltenders fill that role too. Forwards also are a set of 3 instead of 2. Like I said above that trip is Buck, Rosie and Curt. Buck and Rosie are pretty standard forwards but Curt is a little unusual as he's also kind of the team goon (brawler)

generally D-men are the fighters. they don't tend to be high-scorers and yes Curt isn't as high scoring as Rosie or Buck but he's got a high assist score and is in a very respectable spot

youve got two types of fights in a hockey game usually. one is very hot headed spur of the moment brawl. usually this is after a dirty hit and the refs try to break it up. What Reavo is doing here is more of a gentleman's fight. it's something both parties agree too and as you can see the refs still call and end to it but more when sensing when the guys are done. It's conducted in a certain way (holding the other guys shoulder) and hits are really only to the face. Fights are used to motivate the team and the crowd, to settle some tension or to warn a guy off of targeting a teammate.

I like Reaves cause he's a beast but he does it the right way, hes not trying to truly hurt anyone like some guys do.

So Crosby is also a forward. His narrative is similar where he struggles a lot to find his groove and so he's third string with Bubbles and Murph at first. But part of hocky is knowing how to slot guys together so it's Gales idea to bump Crosby up to second string (so second in skill only to first string rosie curt and buck) and he does better there. He's with Douglas and Blakely

third string is Bubbles, Murph and Brady.

I think Babyface and Quinn are the two rookie defensemen

For the Star Trek ask game: gosh! I haven’t gone through the list of essential episodes you gave to me yet (but I can’t wait to do so, it’ll be on my short list of to-do’s!) so I still know close to nothing about Star Trek! 5. favorite species

Overall? The Horta. I love creative, non-humanoid aliens, and the silocon-based Horta are just so interesting, and yet this acid-spewing, living rock is so relatable as well. She's just a mother defending her babies. "Devil in the Dark" is my favourite TOS episode, and I so want to see the Horta again on screen!

As for the more "usual" humanoid aliens, I love the Andorians! They might have technically come first, showing up in TOS, but they weren't really characterized until Enterprise, and they're basically Trek Chiss. Both are blue, come from icy worlds, and have a strong warrior culture, while being more calculating and intelligent than most "strong warrior races" like Klingons. Shran is awesome! (I named a very prominent Chiss OC of mine after him), and we *should* learn a lot more than we have about them and the Tellarites. They're founding members of the Federation as well, just like humans and Vulcans, and they deserve more time in the spotlight.

Janeway and Chakotay's. I've been shipping them since the 90s. What can I say?

30. favorite plot of the week episode

TNG's "Disaster". I loved how so many characters were thrown outside their comfort zones, yet still came out on top in this episode. Picard's dynamic with the kids, reassuring them as he got them to climb up the turbolift shaft was touching, and Troi managing to take command of the Enterprise was a turning point for her character. I usually don't like O'Brian that much, but I loved how he stood up for Troi against Ensign Ro (imagine an ensign thinking she can tell a Lt. Commander what to do! The nerve!) I liked the ongoing arc in the last two seasons of TNG with Troi beginning to see herself as more than just the councilor, her wearing a real uniform and taking the Commander's test, just becoming more confident with herself and her career in Starfleet, and it really started with this episode.

33. favorite pilot episode

Strange New World's pilot, simply called "Strange New Worlds". I loved how it looked at just how Starfleet would respond when it turns out a pre-warp species got ahold of technology they "shouldn't" have, and it's Starfleet's fault. I think the way Captain Pike handled the situation was pure genius, and it really got me hooked on the series, even if the premise of the show itself ("The Cage" made into an actual series), and favourites from TOS returning wasn't tempting enough! The rest of the 1st season was incredible too, and I can't wait until the next!
