See the pattern, unacknowledged but pretty well established is this: he’s got Eddie while he’s here. Days. A week. A couple of weeks, even. And it’s like a fucking dream. But there’s always the waking up. There’s the band, there’s the road, there’s the demands of life on a guy who actually is making it happen. Eddie’s happy for it, and Steve’s happy for him. But neither of them are happy with saying goodbye the mornings Eddie has to go. Which is why they mostly don’t.
Did you know if you listen to Leaving On a Jet Plane on repeat enough times, you'll fuck yourself up enough into spitting out just under 4k of tender goofiness about it?

I think this person understands the show and David Jenkins' intention. DJ said season 2 would be about love in your 20s. Season 2 Ed and Stede are discovering their own identities. And right now they love each other, but their wants in life don't match. Who they are becoming individually is growing them apart. You can love someone, but also fall in love at the wrong time in someone's life. What happens when the person you love changes in ways that you can't keep up with? And sex isn't a cure all for nuanced interpersonal problems. I appreciate that DJ subverted that romcom trope.
it's also worth remembering, right, that ed and stede both wanted that night. ed gives stede a nod before stede kisses him. he kisses back enthusiastically. he goes to bed with stede. we see him sitting a little shyly, on stede's bed - still fully dressed, even, where stede's lost his shirt.
look at how achingly tender that face is. it's ed wanting to take care of stede the way no one took care of him; it's stede wanting to protect ed where he's failed in the past. it's a near-death situation drawing the love and need and desire out of them like bleeding a fever. it's accompanied by a romantic song. the imagery we're giving is fireworks. it's fucking fireworks for them.
the morning after, ed makes breakfast in bed. shares with stede the beautiful moment of his mermaid vision, which is an incredible show of vulnerability. you see the first sign of ed Having A Realization when stede says avoiding near-death situations isn't likely in their line of work.
then they go out to the republic of pirates, but ed takes stede out of the town and into the countryside, to a place where he feels safe. ed high-fives a child who isn't afraid of him. stede tells ed about writing him love letters. they're having a great day together, they're laughing, they're having fun.
it's not really until after ed sees stede becoming famous, until he sees stede stepping into the role of The Pirate, that he starts to pull away. jackie says he's trying to be a regular dude, and that sounds good to ed. trying something new. he wanders off to go watch fishermen and these shots are weird until you see that he's focusing on the twine the fish are caught up in - just like the twine he left stede on their breakfast tray, just like the twine he wrapped up his leathers in. and stede, who is feeling accepted and powerful and capable for the first time in his life, pulls back too.
they each want to be something the other is trying desperately to leave behind. how does anyone reconcile loving someone who loves the parts of yourself you hate the most?
when the fireworks clear, all you have left is smoke.
for ed and stede to find something real, something they can hang onto, they're going to have to put in the work. that's how you build the happily ever after. brick by brick.
#this shit got me feeling bittersweet#I wanna see my tenderoni jabronis happy together#it's gonna take work#i love the journey tho#ofmd#gentlebeard#blackbonnet#ofmd s2 spoilers

it'll be a brother with an iten I've never seen in my entire life. I'll be like "heyy can I help ya" buddy will rly deadass be like "ye so I need one of these but smaller. it has to be the one for a rounded corner as well, it can not be the standard. this is crucial bcos I am doing rounded corners and will not be working w a flat surface. now ideally I want this exact iten, I can't remembered if I got it here or not bcos it was 35 years ago. I'm not sure if they even make them anymore. I don't even know what it's called or what it does. I'm unsure why I even want to complete this project. I don't even remember who I am or how I got here. do you know if these keys are for my car? who am I? you don't know who I am? who gave you this job? where is your manager little boy......."
#I'll really listen to like an entire minute of something to be like “buddy I've got no fucking clue what you're talking about”#it's crazy bcos sometimes they'll just do a light “I need a cloboptomized tenderoni for my shwiggle...”#and b4 I can be like “that's rocket science” they'll go into the 2 minute long badboy and I feel bad when I have to tell them idk their job#p sure I've already said this but people making like $50+/hr reacting like I should be teaching them shit when idk som#whole time they don't want to ask somebody like a coworker and feel stupid or w/e#I'm not talking about like “buddy wants a BaLl PeEn hammer?! ok let me call charlie chaplin” like it's genuinely the rarest most niche iten#there has probably been 20 times where I'm like “uhh I better direct u 2 old buddy” and he's just as baffled so ik it's not just me either#and like those 20~ times are between 4 coworkers so it's not just old buddy 2#like they legitimately will come and ask for som n be like “ye idk what it's called or what it does *shrug* gimme 2”#and it's a dragon egg or a shield left half#a rare amulet

I really dig that change is the main antagonist of season 2. We've got the golden age of piracy just starting to show the signs of waning. We've got 2 lovestruck tenderonis in the throes of self discovery with a gulf growing between them. Their self actualizations are at odds with each other because they have opposing relationships to pirating. Ed's eager to quit pirating while Stede is just ascending into it. Even though they adore each other, their goals don't match.
Ed's burnt out and traumatized from being Blackbeard. He got a taste of stability with Stede and wants to feel safe more than anything. Stede is traumatized from a lifetime of ridicule. He got a taste of validation from each adventure and welcomes more of it. They're growing in opposite directions.
David Jenkins said season 2 was gonna explore a more mature love. Like relationships in your 20s. The stakes are higher than infatuation. Sex can't mend everything. And what do you do when the love of your life has growth that challenges yours? How do you balance loving yourself with loving another? How can you love each other in a way that's healthy for both people?
To love the sea as she must be loved, requires change.

i don't feel like typing this up on my phone so I'm doing this and then gonna reblog it with the pics lol
but last night i went to banshee with my new roommate! he's queer and just moved to the city and was like i went thru boystown once when visiting but i like never go to gay bars and don't interact with the community as much as i would like to so i already had my ticket i was like would you like to join me and so he came along
and what a first drag show to see in chicago lol it has literally taken the spot for best drag show i've ever seen for real
maddelyn hatter? funny as fuck emcee and it was so beautiful to hear her talk about her transition even in jokes lol and her performances were great and then my fave local queen lucy stoole was amazing of course she's always amazing she did a beyonce song with a thelma and louise backdrop which was so fun
and louisana purchase did her burlesque and miss toto came out with literally the coolest top ever like new take on sea shell bra and just destroyed the floor dancing and evah destruction literally said "thank you baby" to everyone she took tips from and after doing so to me whipped around so fast her pigtail whipped me in my face and i was just.... a puddle
AND WE GOT TO SEE VANDER VON ODD STAPLE CUT OUT HEARTS TO THEIR FOREHEAD TO NEW WAVE
like what more could you ask for
i didn't get as many pics as i would have liked i only had a good spot for like three of the numbers and that was because i was struggling to hold my tip out for vander during their first number and this bear in front of me looks down and was like i'm here just because i love drag you look like you're here specifically for these spooky queens and i looked down at my texas chainsaw massacre shirt and was like uh yeah so he literally just like vaulted me to the front i wish i hadn't lost that space after the intermission lol
and chicago drag royalty just came out to support the show shea coulee was there and i was standing right next to tenderoni for most of the night and my roomie went out for a smoke break and just was smoking with sigourney beaver and fallon just was walking around doing their doom and gloom thing in drag the whole night even though they weren't performing INSANE LOVE IT
i haven't been up in boystown in awhile and i know it isn't always the best but damn it felt real good last night i fucking needed that like i feel restored

Otha Leon Haywood (February 11, 1942 – April 5, 2016) was a funk and soul singer, songwriter, and record producer. He is known for his hit single “I Want’a Do Something Freaky to You”, which has been frequently sampled by musicians such as Dr. Dre (for his 1992 hit “Nuthin’ but a ‘G’ Thang”) among others.
Born in Houston, he listened to the blues as a child and started playing piano at the age of three. He performed with a local group and worked as an accompanist to blues musician, Guitar Slim. He moved to Los Angeles, where he worked with saxophonist Big Jay McNeely. McNeely arranged for him to record his first single, “Without a Love”, an instrumental on the small Swingin’ record label. He joined Sam Cooke’s band as a keyboardist. He moved to Imperial Records, where he recorded the single “She’s with Her Other Love”.
He was part of two session bands that issued the instrumental hits “Hole in the Wall” (R&B #5/Pop #50) under the name of the Packers, and “Precious Memories” (R&B #31) billed as the Romeos. He secured his first solo hit with “It’s Got to Be Mellow” (R&B #21 and Pop #63).
Two singles from that source were given a UK release at the time on the Decca distributed Vocalion label but gathered few sales – “Skate a While” and “Ain’t No Use”.
He recorded “It’s Got to Be Mellow” and “Keep It in the Family”. He joined 20th Century Records and was successful, notably with “I Want’a Do Something Freaky to You” (R&B #7/Pop #15) “Strokin’ (Pt. II)” (R&B #13), and “Party” (R&B #24) He revived the shuffle beat of 1950s rock and roll with “Don’t Push It Don’t Force It” (R&B #2 and Pop #49). This single reached #12 on the UK Singles Chart. He is credited with writing “She’s a Bad Mama Jama”, which he produced in his studio. He released the album It’s Me Again. His last R&B chart record was “Tenderoni” (#22), but the accompanying album, Now and Then went unreleased. He became associated in an executive/production capacity with the Los Angeles-based Edge Records. He produced blues albums by Jimmy McCracklin, Clay Hammond, Ronnie Lovejoy, Buddy Ace, and others on his Evejim Records label. #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence

If you believe in love and all that it can do for you, Give it a chance, girl; you’ll find romance. And if you find a tenderoni that is right for you, Make it official; give her your love.
