There are so many words in Scots that I am truly unable to translate to English not because I can't explain what they mean but because they have such a specific set of vibes that saying it in English flattens them so much. "Slapped" is a gentle word compared to "skelpit". "Dust and dirt" is so dull vs "stour and oose". "Grey [weather]" vs "dreich". Its Evocative the English simply doesn't have the same impact at all

you reminded me of the time my family (5 ppl) went camping and we had a tent for 4 of us + separate one for the dog and a 5th person, and we woke up in the middle of the night because of a surprise downpour to realize we. forgot to tarp the dogs tent. 😭

I feel like both as someone who was a very inquisitive child and is now a stubborn and neurodivergent adult I always have a lot of patience for answering questions especially from weans and other neurodivergent folks cause a lot of the time things aren't explained adequately (especially when people are enforcing Rules like parents or activity leaders or management) and I need to ask lots of specific questions and also because acquiring and sharing straightforward information is a great form of social interaction and bonding. If you want people to meet you where you're at you gotta be prepared to try an do the same to others as much as you comfortably can, yken?

1: i like to play the ukulele sometimes. i'm not the best at it and can't pick very well, just strum, but i have fun with it and that's good enough for me.

2: i used to play the trumpet and was pretty good at it. my favourite music to play was in high school jazz ensemble. but it's not a super fun instrument to play alone and i don't have the time/energy to commit to joining a group (plus my instrument is pretty trashed and near unplayable) so i haven't played in a while

3: i was born missing some fingers on my left hand so the instruments i can learn are a bit limited, and some like the ukulele i need to play differently from abled people (i have to strum with my left and fret with my right).

i'm planning on teaching myself the kalimba soon because you only need like 2 fingers for that and they're relatively affordable. and when i'm older and have more disposable income and time, i think i'd like to see if i could learn the violin, possibly with adaptive devices. i might also want to learn to play a percussion instrument someday too (i actually wanted to do that when i was younger but the teacher said i couldn't hold stucks right with my disability so i chose trumpet instead. but my percussionist friends told me it shouldn't be a problem unless maybe i wanted to do fancy double mallet work on a marimba or something like that)
