Come On! Get HOPPY!
Come on, get HOPPY! We have!
For those who love adventure and craft beer, you’ll be hoppy to discover that as Williamsburg has grown into a mini historic metropolis, it now offers a Tasting Trail taking you across the city to various craft breweries.
We scouted them out – it’s a tough job, but someone has to do it! – and can report that each splendidly offers a variety of beers ranging from sweet to bitter. Take a day, taste the trail.
And tell them Scout sent you.
Alewerks Brewing Company
Located on Ewell Road, Alewerks Brewing Company is one of Williamsburg’s award-winning breweries. Since opening in 2006, Alewerks has sold a variety of local craft beers with distinct and playful names, like the “Bitter Valentine,” “Weekend Lager” and “Good Luck Irish Scout.” Though their names are light-hearted their beers are heavy with flavor, especially their “Paycheck Pale,” which is fittingly strong and rich.
Alewerks offers weekend tours and tastings within its indoor taproom and outdoor beer garden – the perfect atmosphere for beer in the Burg.
Location: 197 B Ewell Road, Williamsburg, VA 23188.
Hours: Mondays-Tuesdays from 12-9pm, Wednesdays from 12-10pm, Thursdays-Saturdays from 12-9pm, and Sundays from 12-6pm
To learn more, visit www.alewerks.com.
Brass Cannon Brewing
Brass Cannon Brewing, located on Mooretown Road, opened in 2012 after the founders perfected their home brew. Today they serve high quality craft beers they offer year-round and seasonally, as well as langrage beers. What’s a langrage beer? We didn't know either…up until now. With langrage you’re in for a real treat. Brass Cannon takes a twist on its existing beers by experimenting with new ingredients and flavors to serve to any daring customer. The company never states when they will take their inventive concoctions off the menu so you have to catch them while they last.
Brass Cannon offers patio seating along with indoor tables and bar seats. Spacious seating allows for special events, including trivia night every Thursday at 6:30pm and live music and food trucks most Friday nights.
Location: 5476 Mooretown Road, Williamsburg, VA 23188
Hours: Sundays-Wednesday from 12-7pm, Thursdays-Saturdays from 12-9pm
To learn more, visit www.brasscannonbrewing.com.
Virginia Beer Company
The Virginia Beer Company may be new to the Williamsburg beer scene, but they’ve made quite the mark in a short time. In 2016 the Virginia Beer Company opened its doors to the public and within one year had already won seven regional awards. Virginia Beer Company offers four year-round beers, a rotation of weekly specials and experimental creations from their pilot system. Their family friendly brewery even invites dogs. Virginia Beer Company has a bevy of food trucks rotating through, live music and events on tap.
If you’re interested in a free tour of the brewery just ask the bartender anytime between 3-4pm on Saturdays. Consider arriving early, as only 30 people maximum can attend each tour.
Location: 401 Second Street, Williamsburg, VA 23185
Hours: Monday, Wednesday and Thursdays from 4-9pm, Fridays-Saturdays from 12- 9:30pm and Sundays from 12-7pm
To learn more, visit www.virginiabeerco.com.
If driving is an issue, the Scout’s got you covered…
Drink Williamsburg Experience
Drink Williamsburg Experience offers a bus to take you and 13 others on their “Happy Hour Crawl” up and down Williamsburg’s Tasting Trail. Drinks, tours and tastings are included in the $63 ticket per rider on the Drink Williamsburg Experience. Guests can be single riders, groups or private parties, and each tour can be customized to stop at your favorite destinations.
The bus will also provide free pick-ups and drop-offs to anyone within three miles of downtown Williamsburg. For those farther away, a small fee will be required.
To learn more, visit www.drinkwilliamsburg.com/.

A Scouted Event in Fort Worth: Galentine’s
We are so fortunate to live in Fort Worth, Texas, a city filled with many talented and creative business owners, makers, experts and unique finds. And when it comes to hosting or attending ANY event - we have scouted resources to accommodate every detail with the utmost quality!
The upcoming Valentine’s Day holiday inspired a “boss ladies” lunch among a group of #scouted members (#SCOUTEDevent) to share ideas, stories, celebrate one another, and enjoy a little pampering and delicious food!
We are so thrilled to highlight fourteen #scouted local businesses from a day filled with inspiration and a positive spirit!
It all started with Taylor Bradford, of Sugarcreek Event Rentals, who imagined a glam/luxe tabletop design with some modern edges, utilizing a farm table that she custom made by hand. She incorporated purple linens, a combination of blush and crystal glassware, and gold geometric chargers (versus an expected red and pink motif).
Dark corals, dusty rose, lilac, and creams were brought in with florals to complete the vintage feel. The table was flanked with cross back chairs and a bar cart was utilized for extra spirits!
The event was held at the beautiful home of the most gracious hosts, Jenny and Jon Castor. The house was built without sparing any details, by Jon Castor of Castor Vintage Homes.
Calli Galati and Rachel Hausser of Wabash Road designed and printed a beautiful invitation for the luncheon that set the tone for a fun and festive event. Also, they prepared elegant corresponding menus and placecards for each guest to complete the print suite (placecard calligraphy by Sara Roush of Scripts by Sara).
Katy Lee, of Floralee, designed custom floral centerpieces for the event. Loose, organic, low profile arrangements of blush and peach ranunculus, eucalyptus, ruscus, stock, Earl Grey roses, and lavender helleborous filled the gold vessels to compliment the table design.
To start the day, all guests were treated to a little pampering! Two stylists from LUX Machine offered hair styling. From a little curling, to braids, to pulling the sides back - they can do anything to complete a natural/casual look - perfect for a ladies lunch!
Professional make-up artist, Ashley McNabb of Ashley McNabb Artistry, applied makeup for everyone! She used colors that complimented skin tones and enhanced natural beauty. Lashes were added for an extra special touch!
Jenny Castor, of Luckybee Kitchen, baked the most exquisite, fragrant, and downright yummy, heart-shaped artisan breads with homemade compound butters in three savory flavors.
Claudia Sheddy, of My Sweet Roots, created an elegant, bright, and delicious Shrimp and Avocado salad served on Bibb lettuce and extra lemon, fused with a homemade mayonnaise (which is Whole 30 approved).
Following lunch, Claudia (of My Sweet Roots) served up the most beautiful Pavlova dessert, covered in the most fresh and brilliant berries. It was absolutely heavenly!

Katey McFarlan, of Chronicles of Frivolity, Fashion Blogger extraordinaire, is wearing a gold star blush ruffle dress paired with large matte gold hoops and BuDhaGirl Bracelets, styled by Hale House.
LEFT TO RIGHT: Kaylyn Sisk of Tan 2 Glow and Taylor Bradford of Sugarcreek Event Rentals. Both styled by Esther Penn. Kaylyn is wearing a leopard dress with a white bomber jacket. Taylor is wearing a mustard polka dot two-piece set.
