A Scouted Event in Fort Worth: Galentine’s
We are so fortunate to live in Fort Worth, Texas, a city filled with many talented and creative business owners, makers, experts and unique finds. And when it comes to hosting or attending ANY event - we have scouted resources to accommodate every detail with the utmost quality!
The upcoming Valentine’s Day holiday inspired a “boss ladies” lunch among a group of #scouted members (#SCOUTEDevent) to share ideas, stories, celebrate one another, and enjoy a little pampering and delicious food!
We are so thrilled to highlight fourteen #scouted local businesses from a day filled with inspiration and a positive spirit!
It all started with Taylor Bradford, of Sugarcreek Event Rentals, who imagined a glam/luxe tabletop design with some modern edges, utilizing a farm table that she custom made by hand. She incorporated purple linens, a combination of blush and crystal glassware, and gold geometric chargers (versus an expected red and pink motif).
Dark corals, dusty rose, lilac, and creams were brought in with florals to complete the vintage feel. The table was flanked with cross back chairs and a bar cart was utilized for extra spirits!
The event was held at the beautiful home of the most gracious hosts, Jenny and Jon Castor. The house was built without sparing any details, by Jon Castor of Castor Vintage Homes.
Calli Galati and Rachel Hausser of Wabash Road designed and printed a beautiful invitation for the luncheon that set the tone for a fun and festive event. Also, they prepared elegant corresponding menus and placecards for each guest to complete the print suite (placecard calligraphy by Sara Roush of Scripts by Sara).
Katy Lee, of Floralee, designed custom floral centerpieces for the event. Loose, organic, low profile arrangements of blush and peach ranunculus, eucalyptus, ruscus, stock, Earl Grey roses, and lavender helleborous filled the gold vessels to compliment the table design.
To start the day, all guests were treated to a little pampering! Two stylists from LUX Machine offered hair styling. From a little curling, to braids, to pulling the sides back - they can do anything to complete a natural/casual look - perfect for a ladies lunch!
Professional make-up artist, Ashley McNabb of Ashley McNabb Artistry, applied makeup for everyone! She used colors that complimented skin tones and enhanced natural beauty. Lashes were added for an extra special touch!
Jenny Castor, of Luckybee Kitchen, baked the most exquisite, fragrant, and downright yummy, heart-shaped artisan breads with homemade compound butters in three savory flavors.
Claudia Sheddy, of My Sweet Roots, created an elegant, bright, and delicious Shrimp and Avocado salad served on Bibb lettuce and extra lemon, fused with a homemade mayonnaise (which is Whole 30 approved).
Following lunch, Claudia (of My Sweet Roots) served up the most beautiful Pavlova dessert, covered in the most fresh and brilliant berries. It was absolutely heavenly!

K.O
Pio semble effrayé devant tant d’antipathie On y va ? Bof.

USA: New Orleans Jazz Orchestra Returns from 3-Year Recording Hiatus with "Songs: The Music of Allen Toussaint" on Storyville Records
New Orleans Jazz Orchestra

18-Piece Orchestra Celebrates
New Orleans Legend Toussaint
On Its First Recording Under Artistic Director
Adonis Rose,
Featuring Guest Appearances by
Dee Dee Bridgewater, Philip Manuel, Gerald French
Digital Release Set for March 29,
Physical Release April 19
CD World Premiere to Take Place on SiriusXM's
Mardi Gras Radio, March 2-5
March 1, 2019
The renowned New Orleans Jazz Orchestra reflects on the wide-ranging influence of the Big Easy's own Allen Toussaint, the legendary composer, singer, pianist, and producer, with the March 29 digital release of Songs: The Music of Allen Toussaint on Storyville Records (physical release is set for April 19). The album features six songs by Toussaint and one associated with him, as well as two original tribute pieces. It also marks the NOJO leadership debut of drummer/artistic director Adonis Rose, who assumed the mantle in 2016 to navigate the 18-piece orchestra out of the troubled waters surrounding its now-departed founder.
Toussaint, who passed away in 2015, left his deepest footprints in R&B and rock 'n' roll. However, he was also a major figure in the development of New Orleans funk; resonated in country music (by way of Glen Campbell's smash hit cover of "Southern Nights"); and, of course, was steeped in jazz. "[It] was in his blood," Rose says. "There's always some connection to jazz: When you're from New Orleans, there's no way around it."
When frequent NOJO collaborator Dee Dee Bridgewater remarked that she'd never heard a big band take on Toussaint's music, Rose was instantly inspired. "I said, 'You know what? Yes. That's a great idea. Let's dig into this and make it happen!'" he says.
L. to r.: Khari Lee (front left);1st row: Ricardo Pascal, Adonis Rose, TJ Norris, Victor Atkins.2nd row: Jeronne Ansari, Trevarri Boone, Ashlin Parker, Chris Butcher, Leon Brown, Mitch Butler.3rd row: Ed Peterson, Barney Floyd, Jonathan Bauer, Stephen Glenn.Back row: Ari Teitel (not on recording), Amina Scott (not on recording), Gerald Watkins, Alexi Marti.
The results honor not only Toussaint, but the broader musical culture of his hometown. The iconic "Working in the Coal Mine" does not feature a singer, but the band members make New Orleans shouts out of its well-known lyrics. "Southern Nights" takes on a brass-band street groove, while "Java," a Toussaint-penned 1963 instrumental hit for trumpeter Al Hirt, retains and even amplifies the original record's raucous second-line feel. New Orleanian percussionist Gerald French contributes the original "Gert Town," which he flavors with the music of Mardi Gras Indians.
Toussaint's ballads get attention, too, with help from a powerhouse set of vocalists. Bridgewater brings her vitality to the beautiful "It's Raining" and "With You in Mind," the latter in a duet performance with New Orleans vocalist Philip Manuel. The rhythm & blues staple "Ruler of My Heart" takes on new majesty at the hands of Nayo Jones, NOJO's house vocalist -- and a newly swinging energy in its second half, thanks to Rose and the orchestra.
Adonis Rose was born January 11, 1975, in New Orleans, the scion of a musical family. He began playing drums at 3 years old, following in his father and grandfather's footsteps, and as a teenager became enamored with the music of fellow New Orleanians Wynton and Branford Marsalis -- with whose father, Ellis, Adonis studied at New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA).
Rose won a prestigious presidential scholarship to Berklee College of Music in Boston; just afterward, however, Terence Blanchard called and invited him to tour. "So two days after my high school graduation I went out on the road with Terence. That was my first gig," he recalls. He continued to get work with Betty Carter, Marlon Jordan, and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, ultimately dropping out of Berklee to go on the road and make a home in New Orleans.
In 2002, Rose became the founding drummer for the nonprofit, Grammy-winning New Orleans Jazz Orchestra (NOJO), the only institution in jazz's birthplace that is committed solely to the music's development. He maintained that position even after moving to Fort Worth, Texas, in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, where he taught at the University of Texas at Arlington and established the Fort Worth Jazz Orchestra. Rose moved back to the Crescent City in 2015, by which time NOJO was his steadiest gig -- soon to be his full-time one.
For all its uplift of Allen Toussaint and of New Orleans, Songs is also a personal triumph for Rose. Following the controversial departure of founder Irvin Mayfield from NOJO and its subsequent loss of institutional support, he set himself to the fearsome task of rebuilding the orchestra while keeping its sterling musical reputation intact. He succeeded.
"Almost all of our shows since we started back have sold out," he says. "All of the band members, every single last one of them, came back. The musicians who built this organization, put it on their backs night after night, those are the ones that are doing it again now, along with me." Songs thus stands as a monument to Rose's accomplishment.
The orchestra will be performing a CD release show at its home base, the New Orleans Jazz Market, on Fri. 3/29, with other shows at the same venue to follow on Fri. 5/3 (a tribute to Whitney Houston) and Thurs. 6/6 (a tribute to Prince). NOJO is scheduled to perform at the Exit Zero Jazz Festival, Cape May, NJ, 4/13; the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival 4/28; the St. Lucia Jazz Festival 5/8-10 (the NOJO 7,with guest vocalist Ledisi); the Ascona Jazz Festival, Switzerland 6/18-30 (in various configurations); and the Detroit Jazz Festival 9/1 (with guest vocalist Dee Dee Bridgewater). NOJO will head to New York later this year for a two-night stand at Jazz at Lincoln Center's Appel Room (12/13-14, with guest vocalist René Marie). Rose, who has also recently been performing with vocalist Kurt Elling's band, is already planning future recording projects with the orchestra, including one with vocalist Ledisi and a Brazilian-themed album. "With a new recording project, touring schedule, and new leadership," says Rose, "the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra is poised for success and committed to spreading our music around the world."

Taya misses her wolf, but when her past catches up to them, she’ll need more than her humanity and Bronx to save her. They’ll need the strength of the pack and help from the Fey if they hope to come out of the battle alive and whole. 2019 Design Inspirations Event
This year marked the 26th year for Fort Worth’s Design Inspirations Event, a fundraiser supported jointly by volunteers from the Fort Worth Alumnae Associations of Kappa Kappa Gamma and Pi Beta Phi. Gill Children’s Services, Inc. and Rivertree Academy were chosen as this year’s charities.
The event itself, held at Ridglea Country Club, featured over 60 elegant and inspiring tablescapes, creatively designed by local designers, businesses, and individuals. Guests viewed the tables at the Preview Party on Wednesday, February 20th and at the luncheon on Thursday, February 21st, while enjoying a presentation from keynote speaker, James Farmer.
Southern born and bred, James is a gardener, a professional interior designer, gifted chef, and acclaimed author. Farmer’s natural Southern grace and warm personality lights up any room -- and it certainly lit up the Design Inspirations Event! A skilled and entertaining speaker, Farmer is truly a fresh voice for this generation.
Farmer shared stories about his upbringing in a small southern town (“Perry-dise”, Georgia) discussed his love for a good “screen” as a decorative centerpiece (“I screen, you screen, we all screen for a good screen”) and shared the details about why Coral (pronounces “Karl” in Perry) is his favorite color!
James Farmer is the author of the Wall Street Journal best-selling garden book, A Time to Plant, Sip & Savor, Porch Living, Wreaths For All Seasons, A Time To Cook, Dinner on the Grounds, A Time to Celebrate and A Place to Call Home.
A Place to Call Home is his most recent publication and it is also his first interior design book featuring eleven homes from Sea Island to Atlanta to St. Louis and was featured at the event.
We are excited to share some of the most beautiful tables designed by Scouted members! Photography by Elle Boone Photography.
Tina McMackin of Arrange Home Staging designed the stage where keynote speaker, James Farmer, delivered his remarks. The setting was classic and timeless with pieces sourced from antique malls, estate sales, and other specialty shops. These are the types of items included in every staging project by Tina, who has a natural ability to make homes sell faster and for a higher price.
The Scout Guide Fort Worth table featured a beautiful floral design by Katy Lee of Floralee and a combination of wedding china and special pieces passed down in the family belonging to Leigh Brown, Editor/Owner. The best part was the gift bag filled with items contributed by Scouted businesses! Special thanks to these businesses for contributing!

Interior Designers, Kelley Roberts and Rebecca Atkinson, of Beckley Design Studio, designed their table the same way they would design a room.
To start, they selected an anchor fabric; in this case Schumacher’s Ming Vase in Jade, which was made into a custom table runner. They pulled two accent colors from the fabric – the peacock blue (used in the chairs, china pattern, water glasses, and napkins) and the pink (used in the floral and gift wrap).
The tablecloth was kept neutral and woven seagrass placemats were layered in to add a casual and textural element. The vintage brass bamboo flatware and bamboo chairs are a nod to the Asian motif in the runner. Vintage brass candlesticks and white vases were used to brighten the overall design.
Kelley and Rebecca can see this table residing in a client’s beautiful dining room with a gorgeous Oushak rug underneath and a glowing crystal chandelier above.
The theme for The PlaySpace table was “Willow you come play with us?” In preparation for the “Willow” Park opening this spring! This will be the 2nd location for The PlaySpace in our area, offering an upscale hourly “drop-in play care with purpose” for children ages 6-weeks to 12 years.
Owner, Lindsay Jones, was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority at The University of Oklahoma.
“Spring Garden Party” was the inspiration behind the table designed by Jessica McIntyre Interiors. All of the following pieces are available at Jessica’s shop, which is open to the public, located on Camp Bowie:
Black ceramic antique pot by Club Cu,
Tablecloth by Pierre Frey,
Fabric used as the tablecloth,
Decorative bunny cache pots,
Multi colored vases by Bungalow 5,
White/mirror planters
The lemon tree was sourced from Ballard Designs.
Amon Carter Museum of American Art designed this beautiful and elegant table inspired by the 1960s, the decade the museum was founded, featuring pink floral in solid white vessels and shades of pink and orange in the table covering.
The table designed by Artspace 111 was inspired by the art work of local artist, Carol Ivey. The idea was to invoke the still life scenes that she paints. She has a beautiful window in her studio that casts a lovely light. Her still life has a similar quality to the light in her studio. Pieces from her studio were incorporated into the table design and the artist herself helped with the arrangement.
The initial inspiration behind this table, designed by Rebecca Farris of Bottega Design Gallery, started with the wine bottles, which was the favor (along with an agate wine stopper) for the 8 luncheon guests who sat at this gorgeous table. Owner, Rebecca Farris loves traveling to Palm Springs so she used palm leaves and a color palette of pinks, golds, greens and hints of blue. Rebecca very creatively incorporated materials available at Bottega Design Gallery:
The tabletop featured stunning pink and gold wood screen printed tiles.
Gold glass penny round mosaics were used under the plates.
Greenery was provided by The Greenhouse817.
Talented in so many ways, Kori Green and Ro Rynd of LOCAL Design Studios, designed a table to showcase their line of chic clear handbags, Clearly Handbags, launched due to so many venues requiring ladies to wear clear handbags for sporting events, concerts and other special occasions. Table name, “Go Clearly”, mimics the “Go Kappa” tagline since both Ro and Kori were members of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.
“Clear” was echoed through every aspect of their design: clear chairs, fishbowls, napkin rings, plates, glasses, acrylic boxes, and tablecloth. What a fabulous table!
Interior Designer, Stacie McCans of Paxton Place Design, designed this lovely table with a multi-tiered silver branch floral centerpiece. Of course, we love the incorporation of the current edition of The Scout Guide and the use of black which matches the cover color of Volume 5!
The “Muted Modern” design and styling for this lovely tablescape was by Sugarcreek Creative. Sugarcreek Event Rentals provided the rental furniture, florals by Vivienne & Vine, paper by LaneLove Paper Co., and linen by BBJ Linen.
The event was a huge success and raised money for two wonderful charities while inspiring guests to do more with your own beautiful things at home for entertaining and otherwise!

Because He's Perfect is a charity anthology with all proceeds being donated to the Movember Foundation. Twenty-two authors ranging from first time writers to long-term storytellers, seek to dispel all the myths from the romance world about what a perfect hero should be. Emotional or physical disabilities and illnesses are nothing to be ashamed of; in fact they can make a man. With the inclusion of a poignantly emotional foreword by NYT Bestselling Author Carrie Ann Ryan, this anthology will take you on a journey through comedic laughs, sweet contemporary romance, and into the world of darkness and bizarre. Joining the authors on their quest are one graphic artist, two photographers, and two models donating their time and efforts to this project, which has inspired all involved. We hope you will enjoy what you read, 'Because He's Perfect'. ONLY $0.99 to Pre-order. Up Close and Personal: Ian Lobreto and Thomas Serapiglia of The Salon Fort Worth
TSG Fort Worth Volume 5 Spread (Photo cred: Jason Kindig Photography)
The Salon on Camp Bowie in Fort Worth is the Kerastase and Shu Uemura headquarters in our area. Owned and operated by beloved Ian Lobreto and Thomas Serapiglia – The Salon, celebrating 7 years in business, has built a wonderful reputation by providing a high-end, quality hair care experience where everyone is welcome. We are excited to share some highlights from our recent visit with Ian and Thomas about how they got started and some lessons they have learned over the years.
TSG FORT WORTH: What motivated you to open The Salon?
THOMAS: It was always our dream to have a salon of our own. After many years of experience working behind someone else’s chair, we gathered the courage to build on that dream.
IAN: From here, we came together and consulted with a design team out of LA and became part of the Kerastase team. Thomas and I had a mutual determination to open a shop that provided not only a clean/organized environment, but an environment designed specifically for maximum comfort and ease for every client. For example, we provide special drawers for handbags, and a convenient stand to set drinks while clients are being styled.
TSG FORT WORTH: What are some lessons you have learned over the years?
THOMAS: We have learned the importance of having the utmost patience not only with customers but employees as well.
IAN: It is an educational process with our customers, especially in this modern day of “selfies”. When ladies bring in pictures of hair color they’d like to achieve for themselves, we must educate the customer about the lighting that may have been used in the photo. Was the photo taken outdoors or in a closet?
Ian Lobreto, Co-Owner The Salon (Photo cred: Elle Boone Photography)
TSG FORT WORTH: What sets The Salon apart from other establishments in town?
THOMAS: We take a lot of pride in providing a wonderful experience for everyone that walks in our door. Also - we work very hard stay “in the know” about all the current trends in hair care and color. We travel to hair shows all over the country to stay on the cutting edge. We take regular trips to shows in London, LA, Vegas, Chicago, and New York.
IAN: So many trends are cyclical like the balayage technique which is currently making a comeback. We know how to do it all.
THOMAS: Also - we are so confident in the Kerastase and Shu Uemura products that we sell (and use) that we will offer a complimentary shampoo and condition to anyone that wants to try it!

Spring Member Mingle at LOCAL Design Studios + Gallery
We had the absolute best time at our annual Spring Party last week at LOCAL Design Studios + Gallery! It was such a fun and festive occasion to see all of our favorite people, have the chance to catch up, and celebrate current members and future members of The Scout Guide Fort Worth in a beautiful setting!
The ladies of LOCAL Design Studios + Gallery left to right: Emily Lee of The Bow Next Door, Paige Casey and Amanda Galati of Lila + Hayes, Kori Green of Kori Green Jewelry and Clearly Handbags, Ro Rynd of RM Rynd Interiors and Clearly Handbags, Calli Galati and Rachel Hausser of Wabash Road.

Ellerbe Fine Foods spoiled us with delicious hors d’oeuvres, wine pairings, and sweet treats, along with a fabulous signature French 75 cocktail.
The passed appetizers included:
Prosciutto Wrapped Fig and Arugula,
House made Lemon Ricotta Crostini with Plural Butter,
Farm Radish, Hawaiian Red Sea Salt Cucumber with Curried Chicken Salad

We enjoyed music by singer/songwriter, Andrew Sullivan Music. Andrew draws inspiration from country and pop artists like George Strait, Ben Rector and Jason Isbell. His mix of original pieces and familiar tunes was the perfect backdrop for our special event.

We also offered the opportunity for guests to have a professional headshot taken by Official TSG Photographer, Jason Kindig. Having your headshot taken is a task that many dread, however, it’s so important to have a fresh photo of yourself, especially as a small business owner.
Fear not, because we have perfected the formula: by mixing in the expertise of Ashley McNabb Artistry for make-up touch-ups, a little liquid courage, and some familiar faces and everyone’s photophobia vanishes. Plus, Jason is especially skilled at putting clients at ease so that the photography reflects their desired personality and style.
