I saw your tags on the choking kink post and while I am in total agreement with you re: choking I was curious about your putting hair pulling in the same category. Care to say more?

Improper hair pulling can cause whiplash and damage your spine.

This is also why I prefer RACK (Risk Aware Consensual Kink) over Safe, Sane, Consensual; there's a number of things like hair pulling and choking that are a lot more dangerous than we think of them as, and I think a lot of the time SSC can serve to obscure the danger to newbies because "It's safe!" even when it's not.

Listen, unfortunately we all know that in canonverse this is a very teetery tripod. Nielan go into it thinking they have the most solid leg and don't notice the cracks. Nieyao is a bundle of splinters held together with duct tape and wire. Xiyao I think actually winds up being the most solid leg until Nie Huaisang takes a hacksaw to it. It's just a mess.

In a modern AU they're honestly all very solid, even if they're each looking at the leg they're not a part of going "dunno how the fuck it works, but it does."

Lan Wangji and Wen Ning, left to their own devices, will enjoy a quiet afternoon of reading, handcrafts, or other parallel play.

Wen Ning and Wei Wuxian, left unsupervised, will undertake Experiments of some kind, often flammable or hazardous.

A Radch AU for MDZS???

1) So I’ve been thinking about this and mostly, I don’t see any of them as ships. I could go for Mercy Wen Ning with captain Wei Wuxian, but I’d prefer her as a failed ancillary experiment- Jin Guangshan attempting to attain multiple-body immortality after ascending to be Lord of the Radch. Wei Wuxian spends a very long time working on restoring her original sense of self after she’s disconnected. 

2) I imagine that unacknowledged bastards are not so much of a thing in the Radch, but they probably still happen occasionally even with super advanced birth control and a low rate of reproductive sex. Just to increase Meng Yao’s outsider status, I’m going to say that Meng Shi was not born a citizen; Jin Guangshan was a captain during an Annexation. Meng Shi expected an offer of patronage which never came. Meng Yao, who was born a citizen, took her Aptitudes at fourteen and was sent to officer training. She became a lieutenant on a Sword (Baxia) captained by Nie Mingjue, who almost instantly promoted her to Amaat Lieutenant, to the great resentment of the other officers. 

3) Nie Huaisang is much happier in this AU. Second daughters who spend all their time doing art, writing poetry and drinking are perfectly acceptable to a noble Radchaai family :P

4) Xue Yang is Special Missions, with a bunch of custom implants that basically give her superpowers.

5) Wei Wuxian, technological prodigy, got captured during the civil war and tossed into dead space to die. Instead, she was found by the Presger.
