I was first introduced to it via reruns on Teletoon Retro. I think I was fifteen, but I'd watch it every day. I love the animated medium, whenever I am writing a story, I picture the characters as being traditionally animated. I loved the show and when the 2011 series came along, I was watching it on YouTube and another site, I forget the name, until it finally came to Teletoon years later.
I've never seen ThunderCats Go. I never will, but I have read about it and would like to see some things re-imagined outside of a comedy series.
Favourite characters? Well, I love tigers and Smilodon so Tygra and Grune are really up there. Bengali too, but I just have to say this and I know I'm going to get hate for this, but with the knowledge that white tigers are brought about by things like inbreeding, I'd like to see Bengali re-imagined as a golden tiger. If I were to write my own ThunderCats, which doubtless would never become a television series, I'd have him as a Golden tiger.
With "The Mummy" being one of my favourite film franchises, naturally Mumm-Ra is also one of my favourites and I don't know, but I've always found that we've never gotten an Aztec version of him a missed opportunity.
I love the franchise, I'm enjoying the new comics and maybe some day, I'll do a some posts commenting on various things, like how I'd personally like to see other species of cats included. Snow leopards, servals, caracals, ocelots, pallas cats, for God's sake give us more! Maybe give us a Dinofelis and a Homotherium too... And a cave lion... And some maneless lions like the Tsavo Man-Eaters too.
Here’s the Cartoon Network schedule for Monday, January 24 to Sunday, January 30, 2011.
First thing, 9PM was gone. This was when people thought that Adult Swim didn’t really need 9PM, as they were only using it to air episodes of King of the Hill. I remember when I first saw KOTH (around this time, or a little bit before or after), I thought it was weird, given the theme was instrumental and the intro just had stone-faced Hank Hill drinking in front of that fence with Bill, Dale and Boomhauer. Grew to like the show, though.
Anyways, SCHEDULE CHANGES! The mid-morning lineup (after 9am and before 12pm) has a mix of the Canadian toons (Johnny Test, Total Drama Island) and retro CN classics (Dexter’s Laboratory, The Powerpuff Girls [the original 1998 series]). Definitely a great mix for any Teletoon/CN fan.
And also, in the early-evening, at 6pm, a Great combo came to exist. 6teen and Total Drama World Tour. I’m pretty sure a lot of people know why it’s a great mix (Fresh TV produced both shows, a lot of the voices worked on both shows, both feel like the early-mid 2000s, etc.). Too bad CN replaced the 6pm half-hour slot with more KND the next month, this week was also one of the last times 6teen aired on United States cable television. (it still airs on Teletoon [now Cartoon Network Canada]).
Also, this was around the time when Pokemon Black and White was about to come out in the states, so the Diamond and Pearl anime was about to end, this week was when the second-to-last episode of the DP anime aired. The next episode was the one where Piplup was crying that he is leaving his best friend, Pikachu (he cried as well). No, really, here’s the clip.
Speaking of sad news, Robotomy was ending this week. That sucks, given the show was really great, I could have seen that show as CN’s third wheel, if MAD never was really successful and CN trusted Thrasher and Blastus for a second season. Good thing they got Gumball shortly therafter.
Friday Action block was just new Young Justice (a show that lasted through a cancellation and ended up on streaming) and Star Wars: the Clone Wars (another show that lasted through a cancellation and ended up on streaming). the Ben 10: Alien Force hour-long episodes were airing as time-filler between the two shows. Ultimate Alien and Generator Rex would return the next week.
Flicks movie was a rerun of Underdog. Aired Saturday at 7pm and again 23 hours later.
Anyways, the schedules after this one were more notable, only because Johnny Test was shrunk from its 52 reruns on the channel. Remember back when the most aired show was only on for 12% of the channel’s runtime? Nowadays, CN’s most aired show is about 31% of the airtime. Still better than Nick’s airtime of SpongeBob and Paw Patrol nowadays.
Here’s what was new that week:
Adventure Time - Monday at 8p
Regular Show - Monday at 8:15p
Robotomy - SERIES FINALE - Monday at 8:45p
Young Justice - Friday at 7p
Star Wars: The Clone Wars - Friday at 8:30p
The Super Hero Squad Show - Saturday at 6:30a
Beyblade: Metal Fusion - Saturday at 7:30a
Pokemon DP: Sinnoh League Victors - Saturday at 8a
Hot Wheels Battle Force 5: Fused - Saturday at 10:30a
With Season 10 finished, here are five Death Battles MUs I'd like to see
I don't think it is surprising to anyone who follows me that I'm a fan of the Rooster Teeth acquired series Death Battle. It's probably my big guilty pleasure series, and I've talked multiple times before about Death Battle MUs that I've wanted to see, but this time, I'm taking this a bit more seriously.
So, what are the likelihoods of any of these match-ups making full episodes? Probably not very, but it's not like they're not possible to do. I'm going to make it so not all of these picks have obscure characters, but I will have a couple more obscure characters on here.
Also to make things more clean, I will be disqualifying any match-ups that have been part of my Disney Duels Polls, so these are five of the many match-ups I would like to see Death Battle tackle.
#5. Lister & Rimmer vs Grif & Simmons (Red Dwarf vs Red vs Blue)
This one is at the bottom of the list because, I've already talked to death about this one, straight up even writing my own battle between these guys, which you can read here if you're interested.
This is a really good idea though because Grif and Lister are both underachieving, slobby, kind of in a position they really don't want to be in, and Rimmer and Simmons are both uptight, arrogant, rule-following, pseudo-human smeg heads. I think this would be a really fun battle between them both, and it's about time Red vs Blue got an episode with an opponent from a different franchise.
#4. Odo vs Shane Gooseman (Star Trek: Deep Space 9 vs Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers)
Okay, I'll be honest, I know next to nothing about The Galaxy Rangers, that was not something that aired on Teletoon Retro when I was a kid, in fact I really struggled to find a good MU for Odo, so this is more of my Dad's suggestion.
Can you believe that ten seasons have gone by, and not a single Star Trek MU? No, Kirk, Spock, Picard, Q, Sisko, Bashir, Garrak, Odo, Dax, not a single MU, well I think season 11 should have one, and while I'm gonna bet they'll probably have Captain Kirk, I can hope that they make this duel between the shapeshifters of space.
#3. Cybersix vs Jack (Cybersix vs BioShock)
Okay, this one would just be awesome. These two are genetically engineered who ultimately rebel against their creators. Oh this one would be so good, I wanted to write this as a battle, but I just... never felt like it. Writing is weird, don't take it up as a hobby.
I think this would be good too because BioShock could really use an MU, it is a franchise that is fading into irrelevancy a little, which sucks because the first game was so good, but I think it still has some interest that this battle could be done. Hey, if people can still be asking for Cole MacGrath vs Alex Mercer or Travis Touchdown vs Jack Cayman, I don't see why I can't ask for this one.
#2. Katara vs Lapis Lazuli (Avatar vs Steven Universe)
Straight up, Steven Universe needs another MU, and the Crystal Gems are so full of potential for match-ups, like Garnet vs The Meta, Jasper vs Luke Cage, Pearl vs Undyne (Though I'd personally prefer Pearl vs Zuko), and one I've been hoping for for ages, Katara vs Lapis Lazuli.
Two absurdly powerful water-benders pushing each other to their limits, this one would be so good. Plus. correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think they've done a full on Aquamancer themed match-up, I think the closest may be Aquaman vs SpongeBob? But that was a joke... and kinda sucked.
Anyway, number 1!
#1. Lief vs Bilbo Baggins (Deltora Quest vs Lord of the Rings)
This is the Match-up I've been wanting since season one... Okay well more specifically I was asking for Lief vs Frodo, but my brother is more of a Tolkien fan than I am and he told me that Lief vs Bilbo was a better idea, so I'll go with that one.
However, the characters don't matter too much, because the real battle I'm curious about is between the Belt of Deltora and the One Ring.
Okay, bear with me, The Belt of Deltora is a magical belt, it can only be worn by the true king and it has several gemstones on each piece, gem has a magical ability, like the Topaz which can strengthen a clean ones mind, and the Lapis Lazuli that protects from evil.
I want to know if the Belt of Deltora can protect Lief from the One Ring, and if Bilbo could use the ring's corruption to his advantage.
I was a big Deltora Quest fan in middle school, I even found the anime adaptation on YouTube, so I really want more people to get into the series and pull it from obscurity, because I really want people to talk about this with.
Anyway, these were five Death Battle Match-ups I'm itching to see, here's hoping they eventually happen.
When it comes to cartoons being sabotaged by the network, there are so many. We have Infinity Train, Sym-Bionic Titan, Megas XLR and many more. However, there is one cartoon in particular that was screwed over so badly that not many even know it exists.
What happened to this show?
This cartoon is the 2011 Canadian series, Detentionaire. Detentionaire was a Teletoon show, and if I am being honest, it was probably Teletoon’s most ambitious show. When airing, it was one of the highest rated shows on the channels, and due to this, it had a primetime slot, lots of reruns and web content. It was not only a hit in Canada, but it had its time to shine in Australia as well.
With all of this success, what went wrong? The main downfall for Detentionaire was its performance in the US. Cartoon Network purchased rights to the show, and they didn’t even air it on the channel. Instead, they made it a web exclusive with absolutely no promotion. In fact, even if you went on their website, it was difficult to find the series. Not only that, but the episodes were out of order (and this impacted the show as it is story-driven). Furthermore, the episodes were heavily censored with only 20 episodes being on the website. The series was also only on the website for 2 weeks before it disappeared, never to be seen again.
The potential legacy
After this, Detentionaire’s potential legacy was tarnished. It could have been a massive hit, but once Cartoon Network tampered with it, it became virtually unknown outside of Canada and Australia.
The main reason why this pains me is because Detentionaire is a spectacular show, and I would say it is one of the few mystery cartoons that is at the same level as Gravity Falls. I truly think that if the series was given a chance, it would have been huge.
What is this series about?
If you are wondering what the series is about, or are interested in watching it, let me give you a summary. It is about a high school student named Lee. His main goal is to make the most out of tenth grade with his friends, but unfortunately, that does not happen. On his first school day, a huge prank occurs in the gym, and whoever did it pointed all the evidence to him. Now, he has detention for the whole year. However, instead of taking the sentence, he spends every day trying to find out who set him up. As he gets closer and closer, he soon finds out that what is going on goes beyond a prank, and he is connected to a government conspiracy that could change his whole life as he knows it.
It is such a good show, and despite getting screwed over, I am forever going to be a vocal fan. I want to see it fade out of obscurity one day and get the attention it deserves. If you guys like Gravity Falls or any sort of story-driven cartoon, definitely give this one a shot!
You can watch it on a YouTube channel called Retro Rerun! Here’s a link!
It’s also on Tubi! Here’s a link to watch it on Tubi!
is it bad that I think it's funny youve gone from hating old media to running a blog thats all media my grandpa would consume
NO NOT AT ALL its. really fucking funny
cause like. I loved old shit as a little kid. I grew up on reruns of 60s and 70s cartoons! there was a channel, teletoon retro, I used to have it on constantly. the original Scooby Doo, Flintstones, Jetsons, Super Friends, the 60s Spiderman, etc. I also loved the 66 Batman series, and on weekends I often stayed up till ungodly hours to catch the couple episodes that the channel would play at like. 3am
then I hit my teenage years and while I held a fondness for the stuff I'd already watched, this did not apply to anything I hadn't seen yet. because, you see, I got onto Tumblr. and I fell really hard into that mindset of "why should I consume these really old classic pieces of media, they were all made by old white men and all of them are problematic I cant consume anything problematic" and, well. that was that. I made very few exceptions and stuck staunchly with that for a few years and then, thankfully, I grew up and realized what a limiting and childish mindset that was and have since left it behind
so yeah now I love old media and I share the same interests as the average grandfather. we love to joke that im a grandma in a grandson's body. catch me curling up with a cup of tea and my crochet with my favourite episodes of Star Trek on
i don't know how many canadians follow me but did any of you watch teletoon retro as kids because this channel seems to be a my childhood specific thing
1, 6, 17 and a question of your choice for the ghostbusters asks.
Oh this will be fun, thanks for sending! 💚
Fandom Ask
1 - What originally drew me to it
Back when I was a teenager they played reruns of The Real Ghostbusters cartoon series on Teletoon Retro and that's the piece of GB media I was most familiar with. I think I did watch the movies on TV at some point, but not all the way through. I was mainly hooked on the cartoon then.
GB was not my main interest in my younger years however, as my heart belonged to Alice in Wonderland (especially American Mcgee's games). After a while I depressed and wanted to move away from the tale of a girl who was lost and alone in favor of something more friendly. Queue the announcement of Ghostbusters: Afterlife and me rediscovering my love for nerds chasing ghosts together :)
6 - A character I'd like to frame and hang on my wall and admire like a work of art
Well, it's not in a frame, but I am very fond of my Peoplebusters art poster designed by RichiCrypt.
These are some of my favorite villains from the cartoon for the concept alone. I'm a sucker for evil dopplegangers in fiction. Their designs kick ass and I love Richi's take. His inclusion of a demonic Flip Winston is great too since he was missing from the original episode that introduced them.
(...You thought I was going to be cheeky and put a picture of Vigo's painting, didn't you?)
17 - The line of dialogue I quote most often
This franchise has some great quotes. "He slimed me" "Get her, Ray" and "It's true, this man has no dick" still slay me every time. Although I admit I don't actually quote anything specific that often? My friends tell me I sound a lot like Egon so I've tried to say a few things in his voice for a laugh in VC. Other than that, I was saying a few of Peter's lines on Halloween like "Back off man, I'm a scientist" as a warning to the ghosts in the haunted house (Ironic, since I was cosplaying Phoebe).
20 - Fics/fanart I'd love to see
Right after watching Afterlife I was 100% convinced we were getting a cartoon spinoff to bridge the gap between that and the next movie. This... Does not appear to be happening, much to my profound disappointment. All I really want is to see Pheebs and the gang going on adventures around their haunted town. If anyone out there wants to write more of that in fanfic, I'd be very grateful.
I'd also love to see more art and stories focused on the villains delving into their origins and motivations. This franchise has so many cool ghosts and creatures too offer, I can't get enough!
Locomotion is a channel where Otto works at. It is a channel that airs animation targeted primarily at young adults.
Locomotion's history in the Canadian Commonwealth is kinda complicated, it was once a block on the Western feed of Teletoon before spinning itself into its own channel in 2001. During the Cinar scandal, the company that owned Locomotion and the Western feed of Teletoon spun off into its own company within Western Canada. The company then launched their own channels such as Loco² (a multilingual channel), Retro Rerun (similar to OTL'S Teletoon Retro), and KAPOW!
Locomotion's offices are located within downtown Mohkintstis, Buffalo.
Heavens to the Dionne Quintuplets ... it happens to be no less than that mid-winter spectacle of the Grand Strand, otherwise known as Canada Week, coincident with the Winter Halfterm Schools Break Week in Ontario, and probably Quebec, even! And if it's all the same to you, gentle fan and Old Hanna-Barberian, that oh-so-merry, chuckleberry even, Huckleberry Hound and yours truly are not just continuing our winter's sojourn here on the Grand Strand, but also using the opportunity to "meet-and-greet" the many Canadian fans and old friends of ours!!
Even though, admittedly, the Canadian Broadcorping Castration, and its commercial rivals, CTV and Global, has been under Canadian Government pressure to include more Canadian material on the box, in the interest of "promoting Canadian cultural identity," or so the patsy from Ottawa hath it ... but still, Teletoon Retro, the Canadian equivalent of the old Boomerang here stateside, can sometimes air the old Hanna-Barbera schtick.
=============
"O Canada! Our Home and Native Land!" ... and all that jazz!
And you just couldn't believe all the Canadian number plates on the cars of visitors, especially from Ontario and Quebec, and maybe a few from the Maritimes, on the South Carolina coast ... and trying to find one as doesn't overdo it on the Canadian equivalent of a "vanifesto" in its sheer tackiness of prolefeeding along Ocean Boulevard!
But still, with Canada Week on, many Canadians of an older generation couldn't resist spotting our presence as unofficial ambassadors of The Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbera, and even posing for selfies to share back in Hamilton ... Etobicoke ... Parry Sound ... St.-Jean-sur-Richelieu, even! (Oh, and let's not forget Sault Ste. Marie; we can't forget Sault Ste. Marie....)
And for some reason, Canadians can't resist the old donuts and coffee as a stimulant to get through the day, caffeine and sugar in a somewhat quixotic energy boost--even if it's more likely to be Dunkin rather than that Canadian stalwart, Tim Horton's. In fact, a middle-age couple from somewhere near the Ontario Cottage Country stumbled upon us in a Myrtle Beach coffee shop early one morning, sharing donuts and coffee--and a couple of Nanaimo Bars (which, know, are named for the town of their creation--Nanaimo, British Columbia, on Vancouver Island even!)--as well as some conversation most unpredictable. Which, for some reason, had to include a French-Canadian wolf by name of Loopy De Loop.
"The whom," as I explained it, "was trying to correct all manner of negative publicity long directed at wolves by example."
Huck chimed in, "He liked to call himself 'ze good wolf.'"
"Only," I added, "to become his own worst joke. Getting the proverbial last laugh, even!"
Which had the couple asking what had become of Loopy of late, to which I noted that he had become one with a SCUBA-diving crew led by Peter Potamus. "You may have seen their videos," Huckleberry Hound remarked.
"I think I have, on occasion," explained the husband.
To which I mentioned where Loopy had become, along with Hokey Wolf and Mildew Wolf, "breakout" stars of the diving world, even with their own diving escapades. "As well as Loopy's somewhat cheeky nephew, Bon-Bon," added I, "and Hokey's stepson, Ding-a-Ling."
The wife of the pair was somewhat stunned.
But none the more so when "ze good wolf" "himself," Loopy De Loop, turned up in his trademark tuque and scarf, forever trying to look a little sophisticated for a wolf originally from the Saugenay-Lac-St.-Jean region of Quebec. And even Huckleberry Hound was quite surprised when such a crazy lupine sat himself down close to us, the Canadian visitors not even being scared at such a presence.
"So who did you expect exactly, Mildew Wolf?" was how Loopy made himself known. "Anyhow, care for a poutine party later on at my beach house?"
"Not a bad idea, Loopy" was how Huck replied.
"Likewise," replied I.
"The reason I decided to so invite you," Loopy remarked, "was for the sake of inviting you to join our motley little lupine diving company over spring break."
"And let me guess," asked I, "down in the Keys."
"However did you know?" was how Loopy rejoindered.
After shrugging our shoulders in suggesting that the guess was just dumb luck, Huck and I were glad to accept the invite. For which more will be laid on in the next such missive.
i grew up watching cartoon network shows: camp lazio, johnny bravo, dexter's laboratory, my gym partner's a monkey, pretty much every show from that era. are you familiar with any of it?
i am familiar with that era to an extent because a lot of cartoon network shows played on teletoon, which for a good chunk of time was the only channel i watched as a kid (also teletoon retro, which from my understanding was similar to the american channel boomerang)
i did at some point get the cartoon network channel, but ive been trying to remember what year that happened and i have narrowed it down to around 2012-2013ish?
