Reverse robins au where bruce never takes in any kids but gets Damian when D is 7, Damian kills the spook, Bruce freaks out, and Damian feels so humiliated wired and overwhelmed by Bruce’s freak out that he makes Talia come back from him so D never grows up with Bruce or Batman but runs around with Talia and on his own for 20 yrs. Bruce dies, Alfred sends Damian an invitation to the funeral, Damian, who grew up to be very very calm and cool and stoical but who is utterly listless and purposeless but maybe vaguely interested in some eastern esoterica eg Mahasamghika, comes back and sees an opportunity to get back purpose and meaning, becomes Batman, finds Dick, who becomes Robin, they’re very very close, all is good, although Damian is not Bruce and Alfred still doesn’t love Damian, a holdover from their conflict when Damian was a totally rude wild 7yo. Alfred loves Dick lots and lots, because he’s much simpler as a child and Alfred feels well-equipped to deal w a regular degular orphan, like Bruce or dick, than a Damian. There’s a scene where Alfred tells Dick that he’s grandson he never had; Damian hears this, quietly very hurt, holds it in. 1 day bruce comes back. Very thick tension between Damian and bruce, which dick picks up on—dick is rude to bruce bc he thinks bruce doesn’t like Damian, and thinks bruce somehow hurt Damian, and constantly picks fights with him, which embarrasses, but also a little touches, Damian. There’s a holding period where no one comes out explicitly and says Damian can’t be Batman anymore but they all know that. But for the meantime there’s two batmen, and slowly dick and bruce, always fighting at least on dicks part bc bruce just sort of 🤨 all the time, begin to click and get along EXTREMELY WELL and dick LOVES bruce—and finds his theory of justice and philosophy, privately, much more compelling than Damian’s—and thinks bruce is wicked funny and they totally click on a magnetical almost telepathetical level, always locking eyes and exchanging small smiles. And there’s a subplot about legalities and child custody where it’s like well, how does dick’s custody work when we have not one not two but THREE unrelated single adult men like that looks very sketchy so they decide the most prudent step forward is putting it out to the papers that dick is bruces biological son, damians biological brother who Damian had picked up while bruce was away, so that they can keep custody of him dick finds out they’re planning to do this and freaks out—my dad was my dad, and you are not my dad, and my mom wouldn’t cheat on my dad, and they wouldntve have sex outside of marriage, lots of sweet innocent idealistic stuff about his parents, and and and—sobbing yelling etc and Damian is very and in fact excessively cool about it—points out that dick was born three months after his parents got married and references something about being a bastard himself and Alfred cuts in very loudly protectively and is like THEN MASTER DICK WAS A MIRACLE BABY and Damian is confused but looks over and sees that Dick is crying because Damian is like impugning his parents after their death and it just hurts even if it’s true and Damian is like stricken and like wait but dick shrinks away and bruce takes dick away and has a long talk with dick, comforting him, and Damian feels more as if he does not belong than ever. Damian now feels like he REALLY has to leave

Ok hear me out - dragon rider au. You're born with a special mark on your cheek that is only visible on your 17th b-day, when you meet your dragon. Only a select few will have these marks, but they are entirely based on your dragon and your dragon alone.
