A #MarshallMonday portrait of my very furst burst:
- 2014 #Gibson Custom #R9 1959 #LesPaul Standard Reissue. - 1970 #Marshall#Model2022#Lead20 with original 4 x 10 cabinet.
PS: as you can see I have broken out the ol' white backdrop again, which can only mean one thing! Yep: I, and my invaluable photographic partner @michaelsegui, are tuning up our camera gear because @dlott65 and @chriswstringer8 are tuning up to host #UnionSound24, their annual guitar nerd-fest event at Chris' recording studio, @unionsoundco, in #Toronto, Canada.
In the past 2 years attendees, which include some well-known musicians and guitar collectors from the Toronto area and beyond, have brought in plethora of insane guitars for this show-and-tell, nerd-out and noodling extravaganza.
At the previous events Mike and I have had the honour and pleasure to photograph (and try out!): a REAL 1958 Flying V, a couple of REAL 1959 LP Bursts, a '57 Goldtop, a '55 "All Gold" LP, a couple of early 50s Teles, a 1959 ES-335 & ES330, a huge selection of Juniors and Specials, an early Coronet, a few Custom Color Strats, A White Falcon, an Ebony Block SG, a minty Gretsch Sparkle Jet, a TK Smith, several incredible @bartlettguitars, and a 1961 ES175...and that is only off the top of my head!
And this year's event is shaping up to be bigger and better than ever...which is actually pretty mind boggling. 😮

Posting the Teles on the Tuesdays. It rankles the non-conformist and appeases the traditionalist. 1968 (R) and 1969 (L) examples, with changes in features both incidental and transitional to Fender’s original slab of twang: maple/rosewood fretboards, Bigsby/string through construction, poly/nitro finish, and plastic/cloth pickup leads. Both do their thing with aplomb! #Fender #VintageFender #Telecaster (at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cq6ilZgPrSX/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

ok this is season one episode one when will says his whole “it was a 7” thing, and Mike was acting kind of weird
Tumblr media
his left eye. it is in shadow …
it is!!!
yeah, mike was super confused and unresponsive in this scene for no reason. it's almost like he can't conceptualise the game when he's not in it, which... reflects a certain way on how sure he is about things related to the upside down
and the flickering light that he and only he noticed right after will told him about the bad roll???
"does a seven count?"
"it was a seven? did mike see it?"
will shakes his head.
"then it doesn't count."
"it was a seven," will says to mike, who has the Spooky Eye Shadow of Evil Plot Relevance on his face. "the demogorgon, it got me."
mike doesn't know about the seven -> the game stays on hold -> will remains ungotten
mike knows about the seven -> the game continues -> will gets gotten
i think that's what the flickering light meant. the tele going in and out of focus was the tug of war between mike and karen about if the game was over or not. mike seems to accept that it is for like five minutes, but the second he finds out what would've happened next, boom! the faulty electricity is back! the show must go on!
let's all thank will byers for his inability to keep a secret from mike wheeler to literally save his life and for giving us stranger things

Discover Jimmy Page
A complete list of his most famous electric guitars - pt. 2
from pageysartgallery
1953 Fender Telecaster
Tumblr media
Finish: Brown
Years used: 1970s and 1980s, it’s still in his collection
Jimmy bought this Telecaster in November 1975 and first used it with Zeppelin for “Hot Dog” and “Ten Years Gone”. Later on, in the 80s, he used it as one of his main guitars with The Firm.
Apparently, he got the guitar from Robb Lawerence, who at one point left a comment on a Led Zeppelin fansite, explaining the story. According to Robb, the Telecaster was acquired with the intent to install the B-Bender system on it immediately.
The Telecaster originally came with a maple neck, which stayed on it up until late 1979. At that point, Jimmy replaced it with the rosewood neck from his 1959 Telecaster from the Yardbirds era.
“I still have it (referring to the Dragon Tele), but it’s a tragic story. I went on tour with the '59 Les Paul that I bought from Joe Walsh, and when I got back, a friend of mine had kindly painted over my paint job. He said, ‘I’ve got a present for you.’ He thought he had done me a real favor. As you can guess, I wasn’t really happy about that. His paint job totally screwed up the sound and the wiring, so only the neck pickup worked.
I salvaged the neck and put it on my brown Tele string bender that I used in The Firm. As for the body… it will never be seen again! [laughs]”
— Jimmy Page
1967 Vox Phantom XII
Tumblr media
Finish: Black with a large white pickguard
Years used: Late 1960s to now
Jimmy acquired this guitar while he was working as a studio musician. He first used it in the studio with the Yardbirds, on their album “Little Games”, on the songs “Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Sailor” and “Glimpses”. Later on, he would use it with Zeppelin, on “Livin’ Lovin’ Maid” and “Thank You” from Led Zeppelin II, and “Stairway to Heaven” from Led Zeppelin IV.
“I used a Fender 12-string in the studio. And before the Fender, I used a Vox 12-string. You can hear the Vox on things like “Thank You”, and “Living Loving Maid”. On “Stairway” I used both my Vox Phantom that I used on “Thank You” and my Fender Electric XII.
They both sort’ve sounded the same. It was more about how they played. They felt different. On “The Song Remains The Same”, it’s just the Fender.”
— Jimmy Page (x)
1952 Gibson Les Paul Standard - ‘Second Number Three’ - Used exclusively on the 1977 tour as a backup guitar. Used on “Achilles Last Stand” and possibly “Heartbreaker”, but mainly on “Over the Hills and Far Away”
Tumblr media
This guitar was always assumed to be his '69 No3. As more photos/videos became available online in the early 2000's, people noticed slight differences between his '77 red Les Paul and his No3 Les Paul. The main differences are:
- its 50s era Goldtop - re-finished as well, the colour is more cherry red as opposed to the more purple/red of the original No3
- it's a non-pancake body
- slightly smaller headstock
- different binding
This might be the 1952 Les Paul that Jimmy bought in December 1974 from Mike Corby, guitarist of the band “The Babys”. They deduced that this was the guitar that would become his second red No3. This would also fit in with the time frame as Page would have needed time to refinish and customise it, hence not seen until the '77 tour (acquired too late to be used on the '75 tour, they didn’t tour in '76).
Tumblr media
Gibson Les Paul TransPerformance - used on “Kashmir” from the 1994 album “No Quarter” and occasionally for live gigs and in the studio
Tumblr media
Finish: Metallic gold
Years used: Early 1990s to now
For better or for worse, Gibson did a lot of experimentation over the decades. Things really became interesting in the late 1980s and the 1990s. With the rise of the company’s Les Paul TransPerformance guitar, Jimmy Page quickly became its endorser. However, reactions to this particular model were very mixed. The TransPerformance guitar has basic features that you’d find on most Gibson Les Paul models. There’s the mahogany body with a maple top, mahogany neck, rosewood fretboard, as well as pretty-looking aesthetic additions, like the metallic golden finish, binding, and trapezoid pearl inlays on the fretboard.
But what was really groundbreaking at the time, was that it features a self-tuning system. This includes special Grover tuning machines and a TransPerformance bridge and tailpiece system. The system also includes controls on the body’s front side tied to the bridge and tailpiece that can tune-up automatically according to the set parameters.
Jimmy has three guitars with the Transperformance system built-in – one orange, one gold, and one purple. His favorite among them seems to be the gold one, at least based on how frequently he used it compared to the others.
Gretsch 6122 Country Gentleman
Tumblr media
Jimmy used this guitar in the very early 60s, around the time he played with Neil Christian & the Crusaders.
“I went to see Jimmy with Neil Christian in 1961-1962, it was a lunchtime gig at The Boathouse in Kew Bridge. All I saw was this human beanpole with a Gretsch. It was four times bigger than he was…”
— An acquaintance of Page’s, ‘No Quarter: The Three Lives of Jimmy Page’
1959 Fender Telecaster - before the dragon design was painted
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When Jimmy first got the Telecaster, it featured just a regular white finish. At some point in 1967, he glued eight circular mirrors on the body – four of them behind the bridge, three below the pickups, and one on top of the body. He was possibly inspired to do this by Syd Barrett of Pink Floyd, who was famous for playing a Fender Esquire with the exact same mirror setup.
That's all - if you made it this far, thank you so much & I hope you enjoyed this!

Common Sense Still Lacking in Medicine
Does anyone remember that the Covid Test, the ones used at doctor's offices, were recalled by the FDA? What were they recalled for? For being egregiously inaccurate. Yes, the FDA, the group who gladly uses us as test subjects for all the over the counter "health" products at your local gnc-type stores actually had to pull the Covid tests for their inaccuracy!
At that point, all the Covid testing became free. Why? Cause the tests don't work. Better said, they cannot distinguish between Covid, the Flu, a False Positive, a False Negative, and anything else. The maker of the test then came out and said, "I told people the test was a bad indicator of ID'ing the virus, because the test was largely inaccurate."
So, what are we still using to ID Covid? A doctor's office test and an at-home Covid test. Why? Anyone? Anyone? MONEY.
Why money? So you can take the anti-viral for Covid. Heads up. An anti-viral works before you might have the virus, not while you have the virus. Tami-Flu is a preventative. It doesn't rush you through having the flu when you already have it. The covid-specific medicine works the same way, but - since most people don't know that - they pay for the "meds helping Covid go away faster". We still don't know what all was in those injections, though we're learning more about what might happen after you took 1-5 doses. Would you want to try the medicine "helping you get over Covid faster" from the same people who made the vaccines? Us neither.
Now, when my wife's sick, running fever, sinus issues, she does what every responsible person does: set up a Tele-Med appointment. What does that doctor say? Pick up a Covid test and make sure you don't have it, but - and I quote "the Test doesn't really test for Covid". Yes, she really said that.
Wait, you want me to buy a test that has been removed from the market for its inaccuracy, an inaccuracy so large even the FDA pulled it from the market, and go by that test to check if I have the virus?
"What happens if it's negative?" asks my wife.
"Then we treat for everything, since Covid, the Flu, a Sinus Infection, Strep and some others all overlap." Hold up. Go back to where we were. Does this gal even hear what she's telling my wife?!
Can we employ some basic, essential, desperately needed, seemingly-uncommon sense?!
First, she's already had the original strain of Covid. She was inoculated. She's in the safest population group from getting covid, other than those people who haven't been injected with the poison jabs.
Besides fever, chills, feeling lethargic, feeling ill, and a runny nose, what are the distinguishing factors of each possibility?
Covid - loss of taste and or smell, though usually both. That's not loss of smell from a stuffy nose, but an actual loss of you can't smell or taste anything. Can you smell crap? Yes. You don't have Covid.
Flu - Body aches. Does you body feel like it boxed Mike Tyson in his prime or did a 2 hour full body workout for the first time in years? No? It's not the flu.
Sinus Infection - post nasal drip, chest congestion, sinus pressure, headache, disturbing amounts of greenish sludge; lots of Kleenex
Strep - sore, raw like it's been beaten with a meat tenderizer throat, difficulty swallowing, hurts like crazy when you cough
Random virus - fever, runny nose, cough and you feel like crap but don't test or meet those other symptoms; ie: you have a cold.
Allergies - an overlap of every possible symptom minus the fever
What are her symptoms? post nasal drip, chest congestion, sinus pressure
Do you need a doctorate to figure this out?
WHERE HAS COMMON SENSE GONE IN MOST GENERAL PRACTITIONERS? Follow the money.

Nuevamente no.
No hizo nada.
Antes de eso queria comprarle un regalo para compensar y no obtuvo nada. Parecia irritado y molesto con buscar algo. Sin ganas todo.
Es un increible paralelo con Max y El quienes se super divertian. Los chicos parecian sufrir.

Inside Trump’s gripe-filled meeting with House GOP and his reunion with McConnell
Tumblr media
Former President Donald Trump led House Republicans through a gripe-filled closed-door meeting on Capitol Hill on Thursday, airing grievances about his legal and electoral challenges, attacking his critics in the room, and only briefly addressing policy matters like abortion and taxes, according to multiple GOP lawmakers in the room.
In his first time returning to the Capitol campus area since leaving office after the January 6, 2021, riot, the former president met with lawmakers for over an hour.
In between rants about Taylor Swift and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Trump went after his detractors – those who have since lost their seats and some who were in the room – as he warned Republicans to not be afraid of the hot button issue of abortion.
In a sign that the former president is reveling in how the party has fallen in line behind him, Trump bragged that most of the 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach him were no longer in office and singled out one of the remaining two GOP lawmakers left: GOP Rep. David Valadao of California.
“I never loved him,” Trump said of Valadao, according to a GOP member.
As a number of House Republicans find themselves in competitive primary races, the former president said he wanted to do tele-town halls, but acknowledged his help would not be welcomed by some, given that he had endorsed their primary opponents.
Trump did not shy away from acknowledging the bad blood between House Speaker Mike Johnson and GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who unsuccessfully tried to oust Johnson against Trump’s wishes. The former president playfully asked Greene, a staunch ally of his who he strongly supports, to be nice to the speaker.
“He’s always so sweet, recognizing me, and he said ‘are you being nice to Speaker Johnson?’ He was joking. And I said ‘eh,’” as she gestured with her hands. “He said ‘OK be nice to him’ and I nodded my head,” she added.
Johnson, after the meeting, said the former president told him that he was doing “a very good job” and that he plans to be “fully prepared” to implement Trump’s plans if he wins in November.
The former president’s conviction also hung heavy over Thursday’s meeting.
Trump’s allies on Capitol Hill immediately sprung into action following the guilty verdict –proposing to defund the Department of Justice and even shut down the government. House Republicans voted to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress on Wednesday. And one legislative proposal Republican leaders are now actively pursuing is a bill that would allow current and former presidents to move state-level cases to federal court. The legislation passed out of committee last September, but GOP leaders only started formally whipping the bill this week – on the eve of Trump’s Capitol Hill visit and two weeks after his conviction.
In his meeting with GOP lawmakers, Trump called the Department of Justice “dirty no good bastards,” according to another source in the room.
GOP Rep. Kevin Hern of Oklahoma said the former president expressed he was “gravely concerned” about the federal government being weaponized.
In a news conference after the meeting, House Majority Whip Tom Emmer said that the former president’s felony convictions have only energized the party that will propel them to victory in November.
“Anybody who thought that this President was going to be down after the sham trial, after that crooked trial that we saw in New York, I think, again, it’s only given him even more energy,” Emmer said. “And what he did for us upstairs just now is, he showed us that energy and he showed us that positive outlook, despite all the garbage they’ve been throwing at him with their lawfare and their nonsense.”

Sziklarobbantóból lett 400 autó tulajdonosa
Tumblr media

Revolutionizing Dentistry - Dr. Mike Golpa's Path to Your Dazzling Smile
Dr Golpa
Revolutionizing Dentistry: Dr. Mike Golpa's Path to Your Dazzling Smile
Advancements in Digital Imaging: Precision Beyond Compare
As a forward-thinking professional, Dr. Mike Golpa was amongst the early adopters of the revolutionary "All-on-4 dental implant treatment" concept in the United States, which he incorporated into his practice over a decade ago. This concept, while transformative, was not without room for improvement. With relentless ambition and a commitment to superior patient care, he and his team meticulously studied every aspect of the procedure, refining and enhancing it over time. This relentless pursuit of perfection spanned over two decades, during which Dr. Golpa's expertise and technology reached new heights.
One of the most significant strides in modern dentistry is the adoption of digital imaging technologies. Traditional X-rays have given way to digital radiography, offering unparalleled clarity and precision in diagnosing dental issues. This advancement allows dentists to detect problems at earlier stages, facilitating prompt intervention and minimizing the need for invasive procedures.
Digital impressions have also revolutionized the way dental professionals create molds of patients' teeth. In the past, the process involved uncomfortable trays filled with putty. Now, with intraoral scanners, a quick and painless scan captures a detailed 3D image of the teeth, improving the accuracy of impressions and enhancing the overall efficiency of various dental procedures.
Laser Dentistry: Minimally Invasive, Maximum Results
Today, the true embodiment of this technological advancement in dental treatment is the G4 Implant Solution, developed by Dr. Mike Golpa. This groundbreaking solution delivers a final or permanent bridge with a titanium framework in just one day, highlighting his continuous commitment to superior patient care. By significantly reducing the waiting time for patients, the G4 Implant Solution truly revolutionizes the dental implant process, offering immediate results without compromising quality. This is yet another testament to his pioneering spirit and dedication to pushing the boundaries of dentistry. It epitomizes his core belief in putting patient support and care first, along with striving to provide life-changing results for every patient.
For example, laser dentistry has revolutionized gum treatments. With traditional methods, patients often experienced bleeding and discomfort during gum surgeries. Laser gum surgery, on the other hand, minimizes bleeding and promotes faster healing, making it a more comfortable experience for individuals undergoing such procedures.
The advent of 3D printing technology has opened up new possibilities in the field of dental restorations. Customized crowns, bridges, and even dental implants can now be fabricated with incredible precision using 3D printing techniques. This not only ensures a perfect fit for each patient but also streamlines the production process, reducing the time required for the creation and placement of dental prosthetics.
Patients benefit from 3D printing in dentistry through improved aesthetics and functionality. The materials used in printing are durable and closely mimic the natural appearance of teeth, providing a seamless integration with the patient's existing dentition. Additionally, the speed at which these restorations can be produced means that individuals can enjoy a restored smile in a shorter timeframe compared to traditional methods.
Tele-Dentistry: Bridging Gaps in Access to Care
In a world where digital connectivity is now the standard, the practice of dentistry is keeping pace. Tele-dentistry is redefining the way in which patients access dental care, removing geographical boundaries and bringing the dentist's office into the home environment. This new approach to dental care is particularly beneficial in remote or underserved areas, where physical access to dental services may be limited. Through virtual consultations, patients can engage with dental professionals like Dr. Mike Golpa, irrespective of their location. This ease of accessibility reduces barriers to obtaining timely oral health advice and care. By bringing professional dental consultation into the comfort of their own homes, tele-dentistry is continuing to democratize access to high-quality dental care.
This approach is particularly beneficial for routine check-ups, follow-up appointments, and initial assessments. Through video consultations, dentists can evaluate patients' oral health, provide guidance on preventive care, and even discuss treatment options. Tele-dentistry not only enhances accessibility but also promotes proactive oral healthcare, empowering patients to take charge of their dental well-being.
The Future of Dentistry: Patient-Centric and Technology-Driven
Pioneering these advancements is Dr. Mike Golpa, who remains at the forefront of the digital revolution in dentistry. Embracing the transformative power of technology in dentistry over two decades ago, he has consistently championed the integration of cutting-edge techniques such as digital imaging, laser technology, tridimensional printing, and tele-dentistry. These technological leaps are not just about the tools but represent a philosophical shift towards a more patient-centric approach. This approach, underpinned by precision, comfort, and convenience, has the potential to greatly enhance patient outcomes and experiences, ultimately redefining the standards of dental care for the 21st century and beyond.
Embracing these advancements not only benefits patients but also empowers dental professionals to deliver more efficient and personalized treatments. The evolution of dentistry is a testament to the commitment of the dental community to stay at the forefront of healthcare, offering transformative solutions that go beyond traditional norms.
Revolutionizing dentistry is not just about enhancing the aesthetics of a smile; it's about elevating the entire dental experience. From early diagnosis facilitated by digital imaging to minimally invasive procedures made possible by laser technology, and the personalized touch of tridimensional printing, the future of dentistry holds promise for individuals seeking optimal oral health and a radiant, dazzling smile. As we navigate this transformative journey, one thing is clear: the revolution in dentistry is driven by a shared vision, remarkably personified by professionals like Dr. Mike Golpa, of making every smile a masterpiece of health and beauty.

Iowa school shooting (AP) Police said a sixth grader was killed and five other people were wounded by a 17-year-old suspect in the shooting Thursday at a small-town Iowa high school. Students preparing for their first classes after winter break were forced to duck into classrooms, barricade themselves in offices or run for an exit, before the suspected shooter was found dead. The suspect died of what investigators believe is a self-inflicted gunshot wound, and at least one of the victims is a school administrator, a law enforcement official told The Associated Press.
Speaker Johnson demands hard-line policies during a border visit (AP) U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson led about 60 fellow Republicans in Congress on a visit Wednesday to the Mexican border to demand hard-line immigration policies in exchange for backing President Joe Biden’s emergency wartime funding request for Ukraine. The trip to Eagle Pass, Texas, came as the Senate engages in delicate negotiations in hopes of striking a deal on border policies that could unlock Senate GOP support for Biden’s $110 billion package for Ukraine, Israel and other U.S. security priorities. But Johnson, R-La., told The Associated Press during the border tour that he was holding firmly to the policies of a bill passed by House Republicans in May without a single Democratic vote. The bill, H.R. 2, would revive many of the policies pursued by former President Donald Trump, build more of the border wall and impose new restrictions on asylum seekers.
Panama Canal problems (Bloomberg) The Panama Canal is in a state of crisis amid a drought, and the long-term question remains what will have to be done in order to keep the canal open. Every year, the canal handles $270 billion in global trade, and for Panama it’s a crucial part of the economy, responsible for $4.3 billion in revenue, the single largest source of revenue for the government. Each traversal of the canal requires water from Lake Gatún, and that’s a finite resource, and also the main source of freshwater for Panama as a whole. There is a stop-gap solution, specifically releasing water from the secondary reservoir of the Panama Canal, Lake Alajuela, but still that would only allow for 24 vessels a day during the dry season. The long-term fix under consideration is a new plan that would dam the nearby Indio River, producing a new reservoir, and then building a tunnel through a mountain to pipe that fresh water into Lake Gatún. That’ll take six years, cost $2 billion, increase vessel traffic by 11 to 15 per day, and will tick off a whole lot of farmers whose land will be flooded.
Russia and Ukraine exchange hundreds of prisoners of war in biggest release so far (AP) Russia and Ukraine on Wednesday exchanged hundreds of prisoners of war in the biggest single release of captives since Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022. Ukrainian authorities said that 230 Ukrainian prisoners of war returned home in the first exchange in almost five months. Russia’s Defense Ministry said that 248 Russian servicemen have been freed under the deal sponsored by the United Arab Emirates. Some of the Ukrainians had been held since 2022. Among them were some of those who fought in milestone battles for Ukraine’s Snake Island and the Ukrainian city of Mariupol.
‘It’s State Propaganda’: Ukrainians Shun TV News as War Drags on (NYT) Since the early days of Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, the people of Ukraine have had access to a single source of television news—an all-day broadcast packed with footage of Ukrainian tanks blasting Russian positions, medics operating near the frontline and political leaders rallying support abroad. The show, Telemarathon United News, has been a major tool of Ukraine’s information war, praised by the government officials who regularly appear on it for its role in countering Russian disinformation and maintaining morale. But after nearly two years of war, Ukrainians have grown weary of Telemarathon. What was once seen as a crucial tool for holding the country together is now increasingly derided as little more than a mouthpiece for the government. Viewers have complained that the program often paints too rosy a picture of the war, hiding worrying developments on the frontline and the West’s eroding support for Ukraine—and ultimately failing to prepare citizens for a long war.
Siberian thaw (Washington Post) Siberia is heating up around twice as quickly as other parts of the world. The rapid change is causing the frozen ground known as permafrost that coats about two-thirds of Russia to thaw for the first time in ages. Its brittle underbrush has fueled vicious forest fires. The melting ground is releasing greenhouse gases. Sheets of the softening land have emerged for the first time in hundreds of thousands of years, revealing skeletons, disease and awakening life. The melting ground is changing daily life in these remote locations. Infrastructure is collapsing. Homes are crumbling. Graveyards are flooding.
Chinese spy balloons (WSJ) China’s spy balloons are back. This time, as The Wall Street Journal reports, they haven’t been spotted over North America, but in the air space above rival island nation Taiwan. Taiwan’s Defense Ministry said it detected a Chinese balloon flying over the island on Monday, followed by three more balloons on Tuesday. With the arrival of the balloons ahead of Taiwan’s Jan. 13 presidential elections, Ben Lewis, an independent military analyst based in Washington, said the real purpose is to test and intimidate Taiwanese people ahead of the vote, which will have major implications for China-Taiwan relations.
Scenes of loss play out across Japan’s western coastline after quake kills 84, dozens still missing (AP) His face hidden under a humble straw hat, the man stood silent, watching several helmeted rescue workers carefully lift his wife’s body from the rubble, wrapped in blue plastic on a stretcher. He wiped his weary face with a rag. His eyes were red. This scene in the city of Suzu was tragically repeated across Ishikawa Prefecture and nearby regions on the western coastline of Japan after Monday’s 7.6 magnitude temblor that decimated houses, twisted and scarred roads and scattered boats like toys in the waters, and prompted tsunami warnings. More than 300 people have been injured, at least 26 seriously, and 79 are reported missing. Many roads have been blocked by landslides or suffered cracks because of the strong quake, making it difficult for trucks delivering water and food supplies to reach those in need.
As Flames Surged, Order Prevailed Inside a Japan Airlines Jet (NYT) As smoke filled the cabin of Japan Airlines Flight 516 after its fiery landing in Tokyo on Tuesday, the sound of a child’s voice rose above the din of confusion onboard. “Please, let us off quickly!” the child pleaded, using a polite form of Japanese despite the fear washing over the passengers as flight attendants began shouting instructions. In the minutes that followed, even as the flames that would eventually engulf the JAL plane flickered outside the windows, order held. The attendants evacuated all 367 passengers through the three exit doors deemed safest, sending them down the emergency slides one by one, with no major injuries. Most left behind everything but the phones that would capture the harrowing scenes for the world. While a number of factors aided what many have called a miracle at Haneda Airport—a well-trained crew of 12; a veteran pilot with 12,000 hours of flight experience; advanced aircraft design and materials—the relative absence of panic onboard during the emergency procedure perhaps helped the most.
Beirut killing puts target on Hamas leaders—wherever they are (Washington Post) Even after almost three months of intense urban warfare, Israel has not killed many of Hamas’s top leaders in Gaza. But the killing of Saleh Arouri, a senior Hamas official living in Beirut, shows that they may have more luck outside of the Strip, raising the prospect of a new and perhaps more unpredictable stage of the conflict. The strike in Beirut means Hamas officials outside of Israel and the Palestinian territories may now be forced to go into hiding, too. Israel has a long history of elaborate assassination plots, sometimes chasing targets for decades, long after they’ve stopped posing a threat. Speaking the day after the strike that killed Arouri, the head of Mossad, David Barnea, compared the situation to Operation Wrath of God, the multiyear plan to kill Palestinian militants linked to the 1972 attack on Israeli athletes at the Munich Olympics. “It’ll take time, as it took time after the Munich massacre, but we will put our hands on them wherever they are,” Barnea said. However, Israeli officials know well the unexpected consequences of targeted killings. In 1992, the Israel Defense Forces killed cleric Abbas al-Musawi, along with his wife and son, with a Hellfire missile strike in southern Lebanon. He was unexpectedly succeeded as leader of Hezbollah by Nasrallah, now acknowledged as both far more radical and capable than the man that Israel killed.
As Gazans return to destroyed homes, Israeli ministers push resettlement (Washington Post) Tariq’s neighborhood in Gaza’s Jabalya Camp was rapidly becoming a war zone when he and his family of eight fled Israeli bombing in November. When he returned home Sunday—after weeks spent scrounging for food, on the run from artillery and firefights—it was unrecognizable. “What remained was half a house,” he told The Washington Post on Wednesday. “Ruins we could live on.” Tariq was among the first displaced residents to venture back to homes in Gaza this week after a partial withdrawal of Israeli troops from the north. They found destroyed buildings, ravaged roads, piles of rubble—some with decaying corpses still uncollected—and huge uncertainty about their future. As some citizens trickle back to their ruined neighborhoods, prominent politicians in Israel have questioned whether they should go home at all. Controversial proposals from some Israeli officials to evacuate Gazans to camps in Egypt or other countries are causing rifts with Washington, Europe and the United Nations, and have been included in a case filed against Israel at the International Court of Justice alleging “genocide” in Gaza. Far-right members of the governing coalition have proposed sending displaced Palestinians to Saudi Arabia, Jordan, the European Union or Chile.
US warns Houthis to cease attacks on Red Sea vessels or face potential military action (AP) The United States and 12 allies issued what amounted to a final warning to Houthi rebels on Wednesday to cease their attacks on vessels in the Red Sea or face potential targeted military action. The Yemen-based militants have carried out at least 23 attacks in response to the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza since Dec. 19. A senior Biden administration official declined to detail rules of possible engagement if the attacks continue, but underscored that the Iranian-backed Houthis should “not anticipate another warning” from the U.S. and its allies. Separately, the U.S. called on the United Nations Security Council on Wednesday to take action against the Houthis and warned their financier Iran that it has a choice to make about continuing to provide support to the rebels.
Defying gravity in Chile (Foreign Policy) Sure, there are birds and planes and the occasional spy balloon up in the air. But how often do you see a French tightrope walker braving nearly 886 feet of skyline? People in Chile’s capital, Santiago, were in for a treat this week when French circus artist Nathan Paulin kicked off Teatro A Mil, Chile’s largest performing arts festival, by walking across Santiago’s main downtown avenue on a rope suspended 164 feet aboveground. Even with Paulin secured to the line by a safety rope and taking a few much-needed breaks by lying down across the line, the gravity-defying stunt shocked and delighted onlookers.

johnmayergear Fender Custom Shop La
Cabronita Especial
This Custom Shop-built Tele was associated with him playing 'Perfectly Lonely' back in the Battle Studies era.
According to Mike Eldred, back then head of the Fender Custom Shop, when they first came out when the guitar, he took it to JM while he was working in the studio, and the guitar was used for 'Perfectly Lonely', which makes total sense as back then he used to play live with the same guitar he recorded each song with. One notable thing about the one that John has and used is that it features a rosewood neck, which differs from the maple neck that the other guitars had. Other than this, the guitar features a blonde finish, Dunlop 6105 frets, two TV Jones FilterTron pickups, a fixed Strat-style bridge, and Sperzel tuners. The two-pickup Cabronita has a single volume knob, and a switch to toggle between the two pickups. The volume knob has this switch on the top of it to change the overall tone of the guitar significantly, aimed to record and overdubbing purposes. The time he played with ZZ Top and Slash using this guitar was LEGENDARY!
