I wrote Kevjean Orpheus/Eurydice parallel so we could all suffer together

Once I pictured this I had to...

Kevin reads Greek Myths to Jean as teenagers and they say they would look back for each other like Orpheus looks back at Eurydice but when it happens Kevin doesn't look back.

Let's all cry together... read at your own risk...

The dormitory was quiet, the kind of quiet that always felt wrong to Jean Moreau. In his mind, silence meant you were waiting for something worse to happen. But tonight as he closed the door behind him, it felt softer somehow. Maybe it was because Kevin was there, sitting cross-legged on the bottom bunk, a flashlight balanced precariously between his knee and the mattress. A thick book rested next to him, pages worn and slightly dog-eared.

Jean crosses the room as quickly as possible, wincing at the ache of fresh bruises and cuts making him bite back a hiss. Kevin noticed immediately. He always noticed.

“Here,” Kevin said quietly, setting the flashlight down and reaching for the first aid kit he kept hidden under the bed. He makes Jean sit down and stay still as Kevin dabbed at the scrapes on his ribs and cheeks and knees, the sting making him flinch, but Kevin’s hands were steady, his touch careful.

“Your English is getting better,” Kevin murmured, trying to distract him as he worked.

Jean huffed a weak laugh. “You are… good teacher,” he said, though the words felt heavy in his mouth, foreign. His accent tangled them, but Kevin never made fun of him for it. He only corrected Jean when necessary, patient in a way no one else at Evermore seemed capable of being.

After Kevin finished tending to Jean, Jean gestured for the kit. Kevin hesitated but handed it over, letting Jean clean the gash above his eyebrow where Riko’s racquet had struck him during practice. Jean’s hands were less steady, but Kevin didn’t complain, even when the antiseptic made him wince.

When the first aid kit was packed away, Kevin grabbed the blanket they kept for nights like this. Jean climbed up to his bunk, draping it over the edge to make a makeshift curtain, and then slipped down into Kevin’s. They settled close together, legs tangling beneath the blanket, the book propped between them.

Kevin opened it to where they had left off, the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. He started reading, his voice soft but steady. Jean tried to follow along, his eyes scanning the words on the page, but the pain in his ribs and the weight of exhaustion made it hard to focus.

“Read to me,” Jean said, his voice barely above a whisper, his French accent thick with weariness. “Just… read.”

Kevin hesitated, glancing at him, but when Jean curled into his side, resting his head against Kevin’s shoulder, Kevin adjusted the flashlight and began again.

Jean listened as Kevin read about Orpheus’s descent into the underworld, about the love so strong it defied death. Kevin’s voice was low, calming, and Jean closed his eyes, letting the words wash over him.

When Kevin reached the part where Orpheus turned around and Eurydice was lost to him forever, he paused.

“This version,” Kevin said softly, “says he turned around because he loved her. Because he couldn’t resist making sure she was safe.”

Jean’s voice was quiet, broken. “Would you… turn around for me?”

Kevin didn’t answer right away. He shifted slightly, tilting his head to look down at Jean. “Of course I would,” he said, like it was the simplest thing in the world. “Would you turn around for me?”

Jean opened his eyes, meeting Kevin’s gaze. His voice trembled, but his words were steady. “I would turn around for you. And I would… dive back to hell to stay with you forever.”

Kevin didn’t say anything, but the way his arm tightened around Jean was answer enough.

Years later, Jean would think back to that night. To the warmth of Kevin’s voice, the way he’d promised without hesitation. But when Kevin had left the Nest, he hadn’t looked back.

Now alone in the Nest, suffering Riko's cruelty, Jean told himself it was better that way. That Kevin’s survival meant something, even if it hurt. But late at night, when the world was silent and Jean’s mind was too loud, he couldn’t help but wonder.

Would you still turn around for me? he thought. And for the briefest moment, he let himself believe the answer was still yes.

Hellooo i saw that you were asking for asks (that sounds funny) and I wanna know some of your hcs on Kevin and Allison being besties/ kevjean relationship

This is my chance to finally share some Allison/Kevin hcs so I'm gonna seize this opportunity with both hands and give you this total MESS of a brain dump

- Allison is the only fox that doesn't make fun of Kevin's eating habits. Kevin KNOWS his relationship with food is fucked up because of the nest and Allison knows it too, so she refuses to make bets or make fun of the way that he eats. Kevin only realised because she once tried to quietly tell Nicky to knock it off when he was pushing Kevin to have dessert or making fun of what he'd decided to have instead.

- Kevin also knows not to talk about the numbers or macros in front of her, too. They have a weird unspoken mutual respect RE: food and they both appreciate each others efforts on that front without ever actually mentioning it. they also have a gesture for each other that's code for "i want a snack do you have anything" and they'll throw each other protein bars if they're out/on a long bus journey etc.

- they are the BEST drinking buddies. Whenever the team starts drinking/partying/clubbing more together post-TKM, they are literally CHILDREN when they're drunk together. Kevin gets tired of the monsters being boring when they go out and there's only so much dancing he can do with just Nicky and Aaron alone. So Allison pulls him up to the bar one night to do a tequila shot, and they literally have the most unexpectedly fun night ever. Kevin loosens up a whole lot without the threat of Riko etc post tkm, and when I tell you he is such a fun drunk. now he doesn't really drink THAT much during the season but off-season? oh he's a party animal. I could write thousands of words about him and Allison getting drunk together and becoming literal best friends as soon as they have a drop of alcohol in their systems but here's some things I think they've done drunk

stole a shopping cart and sat in it as they pushed each other down the road in it (and fallen out of it and laughed so fucking hard) ((but were bruised up as fuck the next day because of it)

he's sat her on his shoulders - while dan sits on matt's - as the two girls try to push the other one off

he's really easily convinced to do things by her. another shot? sure. and another shot IMMEDIATELY after that? alrighty! karaoke? well, okay. jockeyback? stealing traffic cones? pulling pranks and fucking with the other foxes? acting like actual teenagers? okidokie!

she's probably the only person in the world who has successfully convinced kevin day to sing

he holds back her hair if she has to puke

she convinced him to let her do his makeup once. full glam. like a serious look, fully beat, full coverage look. there's a picture out there somewhere of it that she saves for blackmail.

fucked. make out sometimes. strip poker. they dance together :)

he never lets her walk alone anywhere when she's drunk. if she can't find one of the girls to accompany her to the bathroom at a party she'll take him.

she's taught him full dance routines

she was joking that there's no way the raven warmups could be that different to theirs, and bet him that she'd be able to do them without breaking a sweat (he won)

they've both ugly drunk cried in front of each other (but they never talk about that sober)

she's pretty light so he's bench pressed her before

- They know each others drink orders/favourite shots

- if Allison is out, say she's with her friends and not with the foxes, and she has to wait alone for a taxi or walk somewhere alone, she'll call him and he'll stay on the phone with her until she's safe

- They make fun of each other and bully each other like there's no tomorrow (affectionate). the whole "Allison hates Kevin" thing WAS true for a while, but once they get closer, she just pretends to hate him. he's like an annoying brother to her

- Allison is really easily frightened, and Kevin thinks it's funny to scare her. she's never safe walking around a corner or into a room if Kevin is there and in a good mood.

- they're not BEST FRIENDS. like they're not in each others pocket all the time and laughing and joking ALL THE TIME but she can read him like a book. she knows when he's having an off day, or thinking about something too much.

- She also knows when he's being serious and when not to joke around. She knows when he doesn't want cheering up or to joke about something and knows when to back off. The same with him - he knows when she's having a mood that requires being cheered up, or a mood that requires him to leave her the fuck alone.

- He's a big reason why she puts a whole lot more of herself into Exy post tkm. She's always been invested, but once they talk more, and they consider each other friends, she listens to him talking about Exy and it really clicks for her. his dedication. and also how fucking talented he really is. She doesn't do the night training with him but they'll occasionally go to the gym together or start practice a half an hour early to run some basic raven drills.

- They're iconic when they get together to do press after games. they bounce off each other like nothing else. they're just so funny. and he's also like andy murray in that he will ALWAYS defend her, dan, and renee's talent if interviewers start to focus more on him instead of the girls. he'll step in if an interviewer says something shitty or misogynistic. she LOVES directing objectifying and misogynistic questions his way.

- She calls him a bitch and makes fun of him for being a nepo baby. He calls her an asshole and makes fun of her for being a rich kid.

- Have gone to banquets as each others date.

that's just a few random thoughts off the top of my head but yes. Allison and Kevin. Literally the only Two Pretty Best Friends ever to exist.

‘We Can Live Forever’ by mostly_maudlin - A wintry high school au with healthy rivalries and pining. Best friends andreil are so woven together it’s a wonder no one has dubbed them with a ship name as Andrew helplessly pines. It’s snappy and full of family, foxes and developing relationships. If you don’t normally read fics where they’re teens, you may like this one.

‘The Monkey in the Wrench’ by Fire_Bear - A Die Hard au with bamf!neil protecting his family and reigniting old love feels like the Christmas fic we never knew we needed. Breaking my own rule of falling for a wip for this one.

‘Cerulean Nights’ by misalignedstars - kevjean shipper or not, the star crossed lovers/longing/yearning/regret subplot hurts so good. This may be the yearningest thing I’ve ever read.

To me the greatest hits will always be kandreil (and permutations, though I don't usually read just andreil bc I already read three books with them as MCs and so I don't get curious for more unless the premise is bomb) and kevjean (kerejean too if Jeremy promises to behave).

I thought everyone was in the same page about Stuart/Ichirou and finding out there is only me and like three other people in this fandom that care about them shook me to my core. It's still one of my favorites though I love them and their combined 20 lines.

Also, and I feel like this isn't surprising if you spent more than five seconds in my blog, but I loooove kevriko (when it's Bad and codependent and toxic and usually one-sided and BETTER YET if it was never fully realized). It's just straight up canon to me. They didn't survive the toxic homoerotic teenage girl friendship ♥️

I don't feel like I've been in the fandom long enough (or widely enough, I tend to keep to a circle of people I can trust to post about this series without giving me an stress ulcer) BUT I love the current socmed au trend, especially when people put their OCs in it. Someone asked so here is my explanation of why I think this song is kevjean coded! It’s a little long and probably doesn’t make too much sense, but I’m at work rn and as much as I wish I could write a whole song fic for this (I might later still) here is my kevjean analysis of waiting room!

So this is Jean’s pov here. We know that Jean had a crush on Kevin in the nest, and since we know that Kev asked Jean to distract Riko so he could leave after his hand broke, I feel like these lyrics are very Jean coded.

I wanna be the broken love song that feeds your misery

Here Jean wants Kevin to feel the same way that he does, but no matter how much he wishes it, it would never work with all the evermore trauma they share :-(

Plus I know whatever happens to me, I know it's for the better

Jean knows logically that he is better off at USC, and that it can only get better from there, but part of him still wishes that kev and him worked out.

These lines reminded me of Kevin the most, both of them were abused by Riko pretty heavily, and when Riko broke Kevin’s hand, he asks Jean to distract him to leave. This is Kevin feeling guilty for asking so much of Jean but giving nothing in return. This could also reference Kevin asking Jean to teach him French, despite knowing they would both get in trouble for it, though Jean probably more.

“In every other draft Jean kills himself on the phone with Kevin” yikes but also it this would fit with that. It also fits in a metaphorical sense. I fully believe Jean and Kevin at least kissed in the nest, and I can imagine it happening during the French lessons Jean gave Kevin. Jean is teaching this boy that he loves French because he asked soo kindly, but it’s also actively killing them both bc they can’t actually be together in the nest :-(

Jean reflecting more on how he wished that Kevin reciprocated his feelings (imo he did, but the nest was too fucked of a place for it to work out for them)

This outro can be for both of them, they both know they are better off now than they were when they were together in the nest, but they have to convince themselves that it really is for the better. As I mentioned earlier, I think that even outside of the nest, if Jean and Kevin got together they would be very codependent in a very unhealthy way. They love each other, but the trauma of surviving Riko, and the nest, and Kevin leaving Jean there alone would be too much for them to truly comeback from. Apart from each other they are able to heal, but I don’t think that they would be able to heal or have a healthy relationship if Jean would have stayed at the Foxhole Court instead of going to USC.

Waiting room by phoebe bridgers is a kevjean song for sure and I will elaborate if anyone wants to hear abt it

It’s time, once again, for AFTG Hot Takes, the show where I just say whatever the fuck pops into my head.

Today’s topic: Kevin Day and his romantic interests.

Now, okay, I’ve discussed this a bit in previous posts. I’m not going to go too far in depth for the two ships I’ve talked about already.

Please, for the love of god, these are just my opinions. I’m literally just a teenager on the internet. It’s not that deep, you don’t need to write a ten paragraph essay on why grooming is okay (although tbf that made my night. Still waiting on a reply, bb)

With that out of the way, let’s get into it.

I’ll be honest, I’m not a fan of most Kevin ships. I only like two of them, so we’ll save those for last.

1. First up we’ve got Kevandriel, Kevneil, and Kevandrew (pls dont @ me, i’m not 100% on those names)

I hate it. Despise it. Just so bad. Ew.

I made a whole post on why I have Kevandriel, read it if you want. 

Kevandrew (Kevin/Andrew) just doesn’t make any sense. Their personalities don’t mesh at all. Kevin doesn’t take no for an answer, which is something that is so important for Andrew.

Kevneil (Kevin/Neil) is one I just don’t like because, as we all know, I am a petty bitch. I don’t have a reason for disliking it, really. It just... idk, gives me the ick.

2. Moving on, Kevin and Thea.

I made a post regarding this one too, check it out (or don’t).

I don’t feel like rehashing all of that tho, honestly. (but pls feel free to read the reblogs, some were v good and others just made me cackle. Still looking at you, grooming guy)

3. Now, onto the ones I haven’t discussed. We’ll go with Kevjean first.

So, I mean... it’s not impossible that this actually happened in cannon, however. Just judging by the reactions these two had to each other once Jean was out of the Nest, them sustaining a healthy relationship would be nearly impossible.

Also, I am a diehard Jerjean fan (thanks gus_47, I blame you and the masterpiece that is Hoax for this) so I just... can’t bring myself to picture Jean with anyone else.

4. Kevin and Jeremy!

Listen, I don’t hate this one. I simply adore those fun lil fics where Kev is tripping over himself cause he’s in love with Jeremy (looking at you, quicksand). They’re so fun! But, Jerjean owns my soul (again, thank you Hoax) so it’s gonna have to be a no from me.

5. Kevin and Matt

I’ll be real with you, I didn’t know this existed until yesterday, and I am shocked.

I haven’t stopped to think about it much, and I probably won’t, because Dan. I just- that is her husband, excuse you.

6. Kevallison (Kevin/Allison)

I don’t mind this one, honestly. I sorta get it, tbf. 

HOWEVER.

Diehard Renison fan. Enough said.

And now, at last, we come to the two Kevin ships that I can (and do!!) suport whole-heartedly.

7. Kevaaron !! (Kevin/Aaron)

Listen, I just love their personalities. I love the idea of these two assholes healing together. Simply adore.

Before you say it (you know who you are, and yes I’m still salty ab this) I. Don’t. Ship. It. Because. I. Want. Andrew. And. Kevin. Together. ffs, people. What kind of person do you think I am?

I am 100% in support of aroace Kevin living his best life with his friends and family.

Although I guess a broader question is if there’s a version where Kevin turns his back on Andrew and Neil and if so what happens then

its always touching (but crazy!) when people tell me they like tnotg because looking back on it its been 3 years and theres a lot of things about it i dislike 🫡 mostly writing choices and typos and whatnot, but its very sweet to me that people still care about it and are willing to look past those….. tch! i am nonetheless all too aware of the flaws in it but i’ll edit it one day. eventually. 4 sure

as for your question hmmm lets see! if you’re asking if there’s an universe where kevin rejects andreil — i think so! i think if kevin hadn’t slept with river, hadn’t moved to charleston, hadn’t befriended robin at the time he did, he probably wouldn’t have gotten to the yes he gives them in chapter 6. it wouldn’t necessarily be a finite forever no, but it’d definitely be a very uncertain Maybe andrew wouldn’t have wanted to work with it. at that point they would’ve stopped pursuing him unless neil thought he could convince kevin, but i’m not sure andrew would’ve been on board with that

now an universe where he ends up with jean….🤔💭 when i wrote tnotg there was little to no information (or really content) about jean and most of the kevjean friendship was based off of guesses and headcanons. this is i think made obvious by the fact that jean is older than kevin in it and was already a year into his contract with the stingrays when kevin signed with them. he wasn’t the one to suggest they move in together, but he offered kevin a place to stay while he looked for apartments, which led to the conclusion of kevin asking if he wants to be roommates. part of it was kevin scared of living alone, but the other part was simply because kevin wanted to be closer to jean again, and he thought close proximity could mend the parts of their relationship he thought were still off

which is all to say: yes! there can be a world where kandreil don’t get together and kevjean do :) my original plan 3 years ago was to involve jean with their captain in an out of wedlock affair (3 cheers for yonah’s shitty fiance), but it was scrapped pretty early in the writing process. i still think jean and yonah could have casually dated or hooked up on the side, and eventually river would have figured it out and told kevin, which would make him look at jean. Differently. i think. at the point of kevin’s first season he’s not really thinking about jean as an adult so much as he’s thinking about the memory of him as a teenager, so it’d be a bit of a shock to hear jean is fooling around with a teammate, which would put associations in his head he would Not Like To Deal With

the thing is that i don’t know if tnotg jean was in love with kevin the way tsc jean was. i think it was definitely There on the back of his mind, but i’m not sure if that version of him would have acknowledged his feelings, and it’s likely he’d have suppressed them much more than he did in tsc. but, by the time the tnotg timeline starts, jean is in a much better and calmer place, and i think he would eventually reevaluate those memories if kevin showed any sign of interest in him. and then it’d be free real estate

merry christmas user dayurno!! i have some. bad news about my slice of life kerejean fic in that it is currently 400k+ words of silliness and i did not plan on ever sharing it bc it’s my little sandbox and i did not think anyone would ever be interested. but for u i will share some little fun facts about it.

jeremy does not realize for several weeks that they’re like. courting him. even though he’s literally falling in love with them and how they love each other. kevjean are idiots and think they’re being super clear but jeremy is losing his mind. he’s a 23 year old being taken on dates by successful rich kevjean like sweating and thinking they don’t want to be more than friends with benefits with him. they are as obsessed with him as he is of them and are freaks who are already planning to bring him home to wymack. it’s all silly really.

on the kevjean side, they’ve been together on and off since 13 and are now 28. kevin got out of the nest at 14 bc Riko broke his hand early but he refused to lose contact with jean (he meets neil again earlier and neil helps him grow braver :3). they get jean out of the nest when he’s 20. the Moriyama’s are uh. Disenfranchised shortly after and their lives are their own. jean is a successful artist/consultant and kevin cannot play exy due to his hand being hurt again. he makes it work by participating in the Exy world and has mostly come to terms with it. they are madly in love and know everything about each other, and other than their constant bickering, are practically One Codependent Unit when they’re in the same country bc if they CAN be side by side they will not be spotted alone. jean cooks and kevin makes them drinks and they fight over who pays for expensive dinners or has to tell their friends they will NOT be attending whatever event bc they don’t want to leave the house. and this is so long i APOLOGIZE the world is vast and silly and this only scratches the surface. there was no need for this tangent. but yes…… domestic kevjean inviting in oblivious jeremy knox…. very special to me indeed

in the same way kevin speaks highly of neil to everyone but neil and bullies him to his face, i think it’s very funny to imagine jean picking the number 29 for kevin (and renee ofc!!) and then acting like a complete bitch to kevin’s face and also never telling him why he picked that number. as is his right.

AS IS HIS RIGHT ive posted a tweet about this before so long ago but one of my favorite kevjean dynamics is one of them thinking they cannot be saved and the other being extremely normal and casual about it. do you know what i mean? jean picking the 2 in his jersey for kevin is his way of mourning what their relationship could have been and kevin’s back in palmetto like as soon as he unblocks me the wedding is back on :)

i don’t know i guess it’s because i’m not a sentimental person at all but it’s hilarious for me to think that one half of kevjean could really just view their relationship as simplistic as most teenage friendships tend to be. the opposite is very funny to me too. kevin who believes everything in them is dead and rotting vs jean who keeps asking jeremy to launch an official proposal for kevin to join the trojans
