Theo raeken x fem!reader, theo confessing to reader but being rejected cause of all the stuff he did to the pack
a theo request?? anon god bless i miss him
masterlist
The first thing Stiles Stilinski says upon sprinting down the hallway to stop immediately in front of you, is, âTheo Raeken is going to kill us all again.â
The second thing Stiles tells you, without a single pause after the first nor one word of explanation, is, âAnd itâs all your fault.â
Stiles is prone to drama. Heâs a lovely boy, sure, youâve been his friend since you were a kid, and youâve counted on him to save your life from the millions of dangers all living in the home you both call Beacon Hills, but youâve learned to take pronouncements like these with a grain of salt.
So, instead of losing your mind with worry like you did the first dozen times Stiles approached you with yet another rumor of death and danger, you just smile, put the last of your books in your locker, and shut the door. Once you take a breath or two, you turn to face him at last.
âGood morning, Stiles,â you say pointedly, âHow good to see you again. How was your weekend? Oh, youâre spouting off about another crazy theory? So good to hear! I know youâre going to tell it to me nicely, and you definitely wonât try to do something weird like blame me for it. That would be ridiculous, donât you think?â
Stiles has the grace to look at least a little needled, but he still stands firm. âIâm not kidding, Y/N. Weâre about to get hit by Hurricane Theo, Round Two, and when weâre all bloody, broken corpses, Iâll be having the last laugh.â
You frown. âI thought we would all be dead. How can you be laughing if weâre all bloody, broken corpses like you said?â
Stiles waves a hand irritably. âThatâs why it would be the last laugh, idiot. I would rub it in your face then immediately pass away. Anyway, youâre not focusing.â
âI am focusing,â you argue, âI have been focusing on Theo Raeken for a while now. We all have.â
Stiles groans. âHeâs going to try to topple our pack again, though. Look, Iâve been watching him for a while, and I know it. I can feel it. And I was right about him the first time, right? Even when you all doubted me, I was right. Iâm going to be right again.â
As much as youâd like to have some snappy little comeback, you canât deny that Stiles totally hit the nail on the head with Theo the first time around. Back when Theo Raeken returned to Beacon Hills for the first time in years, everyone in the McCall pack had been more than willing to welcome him with open arms. Only Stiles had second thoughts about the guy, and Stiles was proven right when Theo tried to kill Scott and take over the rest of you.
Now, though, youâre all aware of Theoâs twisted intentions. Thereâs no doubt in any of your minds that heâs still scheming, but for now, heâs been holding back. Nothing has happened to alert anyoneâs suspicions more than usual, yet Stiles seems dead set in his latest theory.
You sigh and start to walk down the hallway, Stiles by your side. âFine, then. What makes you think heâs going to pick today to attack?â
âWell, it might not be today,â Stiles admits. âSoon, though. This I promise. And Iâm not just making stuff up, Y/N. Heâs been acting differently. He even talked to me about it.â
You arch a brow. âYou let Theo get close enough to talk?â
âNot willingly, but he wouldnât leave me alone until I did,â Stiles grumbles.
You have to bite back a laugh. You can picture exactly how that conversation wentâ Stiles doggedly avoiding Theo as long as he could, Theo just a few paces behind until Stiles gave in and let him speak. Stiles hates Theoâs guts, which is understandable, considering Theo tried to murder his best friend, so whatever Theo had to say must have been important to risk Stilesâ wrath.
Now that youâre finally listening, though, Stiles is holding back the crucial information. He really is so dramatic when he wants to be, isnât he?
You wave your hand irritably. âAlright, then. Get on with it. What did he say?â
Stiles huffs out a breath at getting rushed like this, but his face turns serious soon enough. âWell, thatâs the thing. He wasnât really telling me anything. In fact, the only thing he really did was ask me about you.â
A pause looms between you. Youâre no wolf, but you swear you can hear every conversation happening up and down this hall, how the words echo in your head. Itâs easier to pick apart everyone elseâs idle chatter instead of comprehending what Stiles has just told you.
âHe asked about me? That makes no sense. Iâm human, Stiles. What would he want with me?â
Stiles swats you on the shoulder. âHey, as, like, one of the only other humans here, weâve got to be proud of ourselves. We have value. I donât know why he asked, though. He didnât mention pack stuff or anything. He just wanted to know how you were doing, if you were busy after school or something.â
Your eyes widen. âYou donât think heâs trying to kill me after we get out of class or something? What did you tell him?â
âIâm already a step ahead,â Stiles assures you. âI said you were totally busy and we wouldnât let you near any of his traitorous pack without the rest of us there to keep you safe. He seems kind of put off by that, but he said that he wasnât trying to kill you.â
âThatâs exactly what someone whoâs trying to kill me would say,â you point out.
âTell me about it. I donât think heâll try anything today, at least not at school, but be careful, alright? Donât go anywhere without one of us. I donât like this.â Stiles says.
You shiver. âI donât like it either.â
Theoâs attention never ends well. And, when the two of you turn a corner, you glance over your shoulder and see that someone else has taken your spot at your locker. Heâs not trying to open it, just leaning against the metal. He raises a hand in greeting when he sees you looking. Itâs Theo Raeken, and judging by the proud smile on his face, he knows exactly who youâre talking about.
You canât focus throughout that class, nor the next. Theo Raeken is dangerous. He played all of you except Stiles like a fiddle the first time he was trying to kill Scott. Whatâs to stop him from trying to do it again? Or, worse, whatâs to stop him from trying to do it to you?
You stop by your locker later that day. You had just managed to put the morningâs incident from your mind, but when you unlock the door to find a note pushed inside, it all comes rushing back. The paper inside carries no threats, but you still feel your blood run cold when you read it.
Meet me outside after the school day ends. T.R.
You show Scott and the others at lunch. None of them like it either. Scott agrees with Stiles in telling you to never go out alone, and certainly not to meet Theo like he asked. This has to be a trap. Thereâs no way it could be anything else.
Youâre perfectly fine with that plan, but, as it turns out, itâs a little easier said than done. You end up staying a little while after class to ask a teacher a few questions about an upcoming exam, and when you emerge into the empty hallway once more, it occurs to you that you forgot to tell anyone that you were staying after. Itâs not that any one of the pack would intentionally abandon you, especially not after the shift in Theoâs attention today, but they all would have assumed that someone else was with you, and left it at that.
Now, youâre wandering the school alone, listening to the sound of your footsteps echo off of the walls and wondering if heâs waiting for you somewhere. Your phone is in your hand, ready to text one of your friends to pick you up, but you donât live far from school. It wonât take that long to get home, not if you hurry. Youâre certain you can avoid him if you try.
Glancing around to make sure heâs not lingering by the door, you set out into the sunlight. Your footsteps are quick, hurrying around corners and down the sidewalk, but, as it turns out, not quick enough. Then again, how could you ever think you could outpace him? Youâre human. Theo is a chimera. He could sprint down the length of your neighborhood in the time it takes you to blink.
You wait for the inevitableâ claws in your throat, perhaps, or a knife in your back, something Theo-like and unavoidable, but he doesnât kill you. Not yet. Instead, Theo Raeken walks next to you, tilts his head up to the blue afternoon sky, and says, âItâs a nice day out, isnât it?â
You blink. Of all the ways you expected this encounter to end, talking to Theo about the weather was just about last on your list. âWhat?â
Theo shrugs. âItâs warm out. I donât know.â
He still seems nice, which is weird, obviously. To be honest, this abrupt change in his usual demeanor is freaking you out more than if heâd just been his normal, scheming, threatening self. At least then you wouldnât be waiting for the other shoe to drop.
âWhat do you want, Theo?â You ask at last. âAre you here to kill me or not?â
Theo glances over at you, looking genuinely surprised. âWhat are you talking about? I would never kill you. Y/N, I could never hurt you. You know that.â
Heâs not entirely wrong. During his attempted toppling of the McCall pack, Scott nearly died, and many of you were injured, but Theo never touched so much as a hair on your head. Truth be told, back when he was still pretending to be good, you liked him a lot. He won you over fast, probably faster than he should have. Still, that was then, and this is now. Youâre both on opposite sides of a war, and that sort of gulf cannot be easily crossed by anything. Least of all by you.
âFine. Are you trying to use me to hurt the pack?â
Theo scoffs. âTheyâre trying to convince you to see the worst in me. Iâm not surprised, to be honest. Iâm not here to hurt you, Y/N, not in any way. Iâm here because I want to take you on a date.â
You stop walking. This is absurd. You wait for him to start laughing or something, call an end to the joke, but he doesnât. He just pauses by your side. âWhat time can I pick you up?â He continues, as if nothing has been said at all.
âNever,â you manage, âWeâre not going on a date, Theo.â
He frowns. âWhy not? If youâre busy this week, I can wait. Itâs fine.â
âNo, we canât reschedule, because itâs not happening. You tried to murder Scott. Youâre still trying to take over our pack. Why would I go on a date with you?â
Theo lifts a shoulder. âBecause you like me. And donât try to argue, Y/N, I know you do. You liked me well enough before I started moving forward with my plans.â
This, again, is a little closer to the truth than youâd like to admit. Theo was wonderful before he tried to murder everyone you hold dear. He was charming and funny. He partnered with you in class, he helped you study, he walked home with you after school. He was perfectly lovely until you burst into the Beacon Hills High School library one day to find him standing over Scottâs corpse.
âI might have, but thatâs over now, Theo. I canât love someone who tried to kill my friends. End of story.â
Theo shakes his head, brown hair flying around his eyes, which have taken on a glint almost akin to madness. âThatâs the noble thing to do, sure, but you donât have to be noble. We donât have to be noble. Itâs just you and me, Y/N. We donât need any of them. Come on, you canât tell me that you donât want this.â
He says every word with such certainty that you know he believes it. You understand now why he was able to rally the other chimeras behind him, why even Liam was able to fall for his scheming. Theo is someone you want to believe. Always.
Always, even when you know better. Especially when you know better. You take a subtle step back, then two. âI canât do this, Theo. Even if I went out with you, Iâd be wondering if you were going to stab me in the back the entire time. I canât trust you.â
His face falls. âBut you want this. You want me.â
âI do,â you admit, âbut that doesnât make it right.â
He goes quiet. You wait for him to shout or swear or something like the monster youâve been hearing so much about, but instead, he just looks towards where you were walking again. âCan I at least walk you home?â
You nod. âYou remember where to go?â
âOf course,â he answers simply.
He could just recall where you live because youâre a part of the McCall pack and he needs a target. A second, calmer voice somewhere in the back of your head whispers that maybe, just maybe, it is because of you.
The walk back is quiet, but not terrible. Youâre both thinking through a grave number of things. When you finally reach your house, Theo stops and faces you in front of the door. âJustââ he breaks off, then manages to finish it. âThink about it. If I were better, would you think about it?â
You let out a low breath. âYes, Theo, I would.â
He almost smiles. âGoodbye, Y/N.â
âGoodbye, Theo,â you whisper back, and watch as he turns and leaves your house once more.Â
It will be a long time before you can trust him for sure. You have no doubt that heâs got something else up his sleeve. Theo Raeken doesnât strike you as the kind to give up easily. But then again, thatâs why youâre still thinking of him even after he disappears from sight. Maybe, just maybe, Theo will do good on what he asked of you. Maybe, if he was better, he would come back. Until then, youâll watch, and youâll wait, and perhaps one day, youâll be able to say yes after all.

ceilings, plaster
âokay, y/n. imagine youâre in your bedroom.â lydiaâs voice calmly echoed through the room. âvisualize yourself in your bedroom.â
you looked around. your bed, your shelves, your desk, it was your bedroom.
âcan you see it?â lydia asked and you nodded. âokay, good. can you see your shelf? the one with all your movies?â
you took a few steps over to the bookshelf, dvds filling each individual shelf and only a few books lay around.
âyes.â
ây/n, imagine each dvd is a memory of stiles. every movie is a different memory.â lydia spoke. âyou need to find the correct memory. the one thatâll bring him back.â
you pulled the first dvd off the shelf and opened it, putting the disk into your player.
canât you just make it move faster?
âwhat the hell?â you wiped your cheek with your hand as the boy in front of you laughed. âwhat the hell was that?â
he shrugged, still laughing.
you were in your kitchen with stiles, the afternoon sun spilling through the window as you went through the cupboards.
âseriously, babe, what was that?â
âit was just water.â he chuckled, dipping his fingers into the glass beside him and flicking it at you. âdonât need to worry.â
âyouâre such a dick.â you rolled your eyes, fighting the smile that grew on your face as he slowly made his way over to you.
âyou love me.â
âmhm.â
âgo on. say it.â stiles whispered into your ear, his arms wrapping around your body from behind and his chin resting on your shoulder. âyou know itâs true.â
âfine.â you spun around so you were still facing him in your arms. âi love you, stilinski.â
he smiled and leaned in, pecking your lips.
âi love you, too.â
lovely to be sitting here with you
âcan you see him? can you remember him?â lydia asked.
âit was just water.â you mumbled. scott and malia exchanged a confused look behind lydiaâs back.
ây/n, you need to find a stronger memory. keep looking.â
youâre kinda cute, but itâs
you ran your hand along the different dvds before stopping on one.
you pulled it out and glanced at the cover. it was blank.
they were all blank, so you knew it would be a hard search to find the right memory.
âfind a stronger memory, y/n.â lydiaâs voice guided you and you placed the new disk into the dvd player.
raining harder
âyou guys won!â you cheered, grabbing both of stilesâ hands in yours.
you were standing on the lacrosse field at the high school, and he was wearing a beacon hills jersey.
he was number 24.
it mustâve been winter, or just cold, because it was raining.
the grass was all soaking wet, and water dripped down your face and near your eyes as you looked up at him with the biggest smile.
my shoes are now full of water
âdid i look super hot out on the field?â he joked. you knew he had only been out there for a few minutes.
âtotally.â you pulled him by his shoulders and kissed him on the lips, drops of water falling off his hair.
âi did better than scott, right?â stiles asked after you pulled apart and you laughed.
âwellâŠâ
the boy made a face at you and you scoffed.
âokay, well, heâs team captain for a reason.â
âitâs fine, i know i was better than him.â
âyou keep telling yourself that, buddy.â
lovely to be rained on with you
âdid you find a good one, y/n? something strong?â lydia asked and you shook your head.
âkeep searching, y/n.â scottâs voice was just as soft as lydiaâs, but she quickly shushed him.
ây/n, you need to find a stronger memory.â
itâs kinda cute, but itâs
you looked through the dvds and picked one out at random.
it wasnât like you could pick and choose when they were all blank.
you thought, âbetter than nothing.â and put it in the player.
so short
âagain?â
âcome on. please?â stiles made a sad face as he held out the star wars dvd to you. âwe havenât watched it in like⊠a month.â
âwe just watched a star wars movie like a week ago.â
âyeah, but that was a new hope, so now we have to watch empire.â
âokay, fine, but my mom wants me home right after.â
âyes! also, donât worry about that. iâll drive you.â he smiled brightly as he put the disc into the dvd player in his living room then dropped onto the couch beside you. âyou know, this is why youâre my favorite.â
âwhat?â
âscott would never watch this with me. especially not multiple times.â
âscott never watches movies with anyone. you should know this by now.â you bumped him with your elbow.
âi know, i know.â stiles slid his arm around your shoulder and kissed your cheek. âyouâre still my favorite, though.â
then youâre driving me home
you sat in the passenger seat of stilesâ jeep, which sounded like it was going to fall apart as he drove it, later that night.
you glanced to your side, staring at his face.
you could tell a smile tugged on his lips and he looked to you for a split second.
âwhat are you staring at, weirdo?â he asked and you looked out the window again.
ânothing.â
âliar. you were looking at me.â he teased. âcause you think iâm so hot.â
âis that a crime?â
âoh, definitely not. you can look at me all you want.â
there was silence between you two for a moment as he pulled into your driveway. you sighed.
he looked at you this time.
âdo i have to leave?â
he chuckled and gave you a kiss. âiâll see you tomorrow, y/n.â
âsee you tomorrowâŠâ
and i donât want to leave
âkeep pushing, y/n.â lydia motivated. âsearch deeper. you can find the one you need.â
âdo i have to leave?â you muttered the words. âsee you tomorrowâŠâ
lydia sighed. ây/n, try searching deeper. youâve got this.â
there was a growing stack of dvds being dumped on your bed after going through its memory.
you picked out another one.
but i have to go
âcome on. you donât need to go in there.â you pointed up at the building beside you inside the large gates. âyouâre not crazy.â
âi donât want to hurt anyone, y/n.â stiles spoke, sheriff stilinski standing beside him. âespecially not you.â
âbut eichen house?â you stared at him sadly. âstilesâŠâ
he reached out his hand and pulled you into his chest, hugging you tight. he kissed the top of your head.
âi love you, y/n.â
you sighed, your arms keeping him as close as possible. you didnât want to let him go. âi love you too, stiles.â
you kiss me in your car
âcome on, stiles. breathe.â you cupped the boyâs face in your hands. âtry not to think about it. think about something else.â
âlike what?â he panted, looking up at you with sad eyes and a broken expression.
you were both sat on the locker room floor, he was having a panic attack.
âhappy things. friends, family-â you stopped yourself after he gave you a look. âokay, not family. try not to think about your dad. just breathe.â
âiâŠâ he hyperventilated. you adjusted your hands on the sides of his face. his eyes met yours.
that was all you could see. his eyes.
âstiles, just breathe.â you could see there wasnât really a difference in his actions. you leaned forward and attached your lips to his.
his eyes went wide, but he seemed to melt into the kiss.
you pulled apart and he stared into your eyes, his breathing slowed down, the panic attack over.
you grabbed his hand and he intertwined your fingers.
and it feels like the start of a movie iâve seen before
âi kissed him.â you spoke to lydia and the others, your eyes closed as you sat at the table in front of them. âhe was having a panic attack. i kissed him.â
âholding your breath stops a panic attack.â lydia nodded, explaining to the others. ânow, y/n, find something deeper. something more important to you. something more important to him.â
âto stiles.â
âexactly.â
the next dvd was higher up on the shelf, you grabbed it easily.
bedsheets, no clothes
you were lying beside stiles, running your finger along his bare chest.
he pulled you closer to him with a smile, pushing some of your hair away from your face.
âhey.â he whispered.
you smiled back. âhey.â
âthat was something.â
âa good something or a bad something?â you asked, still whispering.
âdefinitely a good something.â he rubbed his hand up your arm. âprobably the best something. i donât know if thereâs been a better somethingââ
âalright, i get it.â you chuckled softly.
there was no need for the whispering, it was the evening and no one else was home, but you still did.
his hand ran along the side of your face. âyouâre so beautiful.â
there was no way you couldâve fought off the smile on your face as your cheeks warmed.
touch me like nobody else does
âdefinitely a good something.â you recalled. âhe said it was definitely a good something.â
âwhat was?â
you went quiet again, searching through the different dvds.
some memories were shorter than others, just conversations or things like that.
âfind something, y/n. good or bad.â
lovely to just lay here with you
you picked out another dvd. it was blank like all of the others, but it seemed different.
you took it off the shelf because it seemed to be staring right at you, practically calling your name.
you played that one.
the memory didnât give you a feeling that it would bring him back, but it felt like something you needed to see.
youâre kinda cute, and i would say all of this
âcome on, stiles.â you whispered. âyou can talk to me.â
he was ignoring you. and you had no clue why.
he sighed and your eyebrows knitted in confusion.
it was late at night and you were both lying in his bed, him with his back to you.
âcan you just⊠drop it?â he mumbled. âiâm not in the mood.â
âwhat happened, stiles?â
ânothing, just go to sleep.â he adjusted himself in the bed slightly, but didnât face you.
âstilesâŠâ
but i donât wanna ruin the moment
time seemed to skip and he was sitting up, facing you.
âwhat? do you not trust me or something?â you asked.
âno, thatâs not itââ he cut himself off. âi just donât want to talk about it.â
âstiles, i get that, but i want to know whatâs going on with you.â you put your hand on his shoulder and he, quite obviously, winced. âwhatâs up with your shoulââ
ânothing, y/n. just leave it.â he winced again and pushed your hand off. âi donât need your help.â
âseriously?â you scoffed as he turned his back to you again. âyou know what? whatever.â
you pushed the covers of his bed off and stood up, slipping your shoes on.
âwhere are you going?â stiles asked, sitting up again.
âhome.â you answered. âyou obviously need space, so iâm respecting that. iâm not gonna push it anymore.â
âwait, babe,â he started getting out of his bed. âi donât want you to go.â
âiâm still going, stiles.â you picked up your backpack. âwe can talk tomorrow.â
âitâs late.â
âiâm aware. my carâs outside, remember?â
âplease stay.â
âiâll see you tomorrow, or whenever youâre ready to talk about whatever the hellâs going on with you right now.â
lovely to sit in between comfort and chaos
standing in your bedroom, staring at the tv as you left stilesâ bedroom, you remembered the fact that you didnât talk the next day.
stiles just never said anything about it to you.
not until after everything with theo was practically over.
basically everyone else knew about it, but you.
he didnât think you would understand, which was probably the most upsetting part for you because you did.
you understood it was self defence. you understood he did it because if he didnât he wouldâve died.
but itâs over
ây/n? are you okay?â scott asked, ignoring lydia as she shushed him.
you nodded. being hypnotised was weird.
lydia had taken notice of your saddened expression too.
âfind a different memory, y/n. i know you can do this.â
then youâre driving me home
the next memory you found was not long after theo was literally sent to hell.
you were with stiles in his jeep. he was driving you home again. except this time going home from scottâs house.
the car was silent, but not in the usual comfortable way. neither of you had really spoken to the other since that night, only really for pack stuff.
you were terrified that he thought the two of you had broken up, and he was scared of the exact same thing.
âiâm sorry i didnât tell you that night.â stiles spoke up. âi shouldâve said something.â
âno, i get why you didnât. i was being pushy and you didnât want toââ
âi did want to tell you.â he sighed. âi was so scared, y/n. i thought there was a chance that you wouldnât understand or something and iâd lose you.â
he looked right at you.
âi mean, scott didnât.â
âthat was theoâs fault.â you told him. âscott didnât know the full story. you know he knows the truth now.â
âmm.â he seemed to agree, but you could tell something was still off by his body language.
you took the hand he didnât have on the wheel into yours.
and it kinda comes out as i get up to go
âyou know, i still love you, right?â you told him after he stopped and he looked over at you.
âwhaâ oh, yeah. yeah, i know.â he nodded, avoiding your eyes, looking outside the car.
âdo you know?â
he didnât answer for a moment, then shrugged.
âi do, stiles.â you kissed his cheek. âi love you, and that never changed.â
ânever?â
ânot for one moment.â
he smiled, then laughed softly, then leaned forward and kissed you on the lips.
âi love you too.â
you kiss me in your car
âit never changed.â you sniffled slightly. âi still loved him after everything. he was so scared i wouldnât, but it never changed.â
âafter what, y/n?â lydia asked, hoping more elaboration would help them bring back stiles.
âafter donovan.â
scott knew what you were talking about, that was something he had remembered when he thought about stiles.
âafter i knew, i still loved him, and he still loved me.â
and it feels like the start of a movie iâve seen before
then you picked up one more dvd. you just stared at its blank cover and seemed to know what it was.
putting the disk in, you watched as you ran with stiles to his jeep in the school parking lot.
this was the last memory you had of stiles. the last time you had really seen him.
but itâs not real
ây/n, babe, listen. youâre going to forget me.â stilesâ voice seemed to echo around you as you recalled the night.
âno, i wonât. stiles, i wonât.â
âyou will.â he cupped your cheeks and made you look him in the eyes. âyou will.â
you shook your head as tears threatened to spill. âi wonât.â
âitâs okay, just find some way to remember me. any way.â
âstilesâŠâ
and you donât exist
âi was the last person to see him.â you spoke to your friends. âi was there when they took him. i saw it happen.â
that night was so long ago, but all the details were rushing back to you now.
you were starting to remember it all.
not just that night, but everything about stiles.
and i canât recall the last time i was kissed
âi know youâll find some way to remember me.â he squeezed your hand. â do you remember the first time we danced at the winter formal? you were the first girl i ever danced with.â
you had gone together as friends, despite everyone knowing you had crushes on each other.
âremember how we started dating that summer.â
âthe summer before junior year.â you nodded.
âyeah.â he stroked your cheek, wiping away a tear. âthat was the best summer of my life.â
you chuckled. âmine too.â
âremember all those sleepovers weâve had. remember when weâve fought. remember every time weâve kissed, orâŠâ he paused and just stared you in the eyes.
the interior of the car was silent, but the wind blew violently outside.
âjust remember i love you, okay?â he kissed your hand. âplease just remember that. i need you to.â
then he was pulled from the car. the wind stopped and he was gone.
it hits me in the car
you sat there, curled into a ball in the passenger seat, sobbing.
you muttered over and over. âi remember. just remember. i promise.â
you hated the silence, and you hated that he was gone. you didnât even notice that he had started to slip from your mind.
not until you walked into school the next day, anxiety overwhelming you as your brain tried to remember why it felt like you were forgetting something.
why it felt like a whole piece of you was missing.
just then, remembering what it was like when he was taken, every single memory of yours that included stiles came rushing back.
memories from when you were friends as kids, up until high school. memories from after scott was bitten, back when stiles had his buzzcut.
memories from when he was possessed by the nogitsune. memories from all the times both of you had almost died.
memories of the two of you before and after you started dating. memories with scott and the pack, memories with his dad, memories alone.
all of it.
and it feels like the end of a movie iâve seen before
you opened your eyes and looked around. you werenât in your bedroom anymore, you were back in argentâs underground bunker with lydia, scott and malia.
ây/n.â
lydia had tried to get your attention, but stilesâ voice played over and over in your mind.
you could see bright lights coming from outside the room, and you rushed out. the three of your friends who were still there ran after you.
you stopped in the corridor, the lights so bright you couldnât see anything.
then you could see him.
not his face, or any defining qualities at all, but you knew it was him.
he was more like a silhouette, but you could recognize stiles stilinski anywhere.
âstiles.â you breathed out, a smile breaking out onto your face.
you were finally going to have him back. after months of the awful anxiety and feeling that something was missing.
he was like the last piece of your puzzle, and you were going to be complete.
then the light faded.

ââ older
paring theo raeken x fem!reader, word count 727, genre fluff and angst, music recommendation older isabel larosa authors note my favorite writing piece đ«¶đ»đ«¶đ» ( masterlist )
you knew that scott mccall would never like the idea of his little sister hanging around with theo. so, you snuck around together pretending that you hated one another around the pack, but only you two know that was far from the truth. the pack would never speak to you again if they knew that you was with somebody like theo raeken. you find a thrill of sneaking around beacon hills tiptoeing around the pack.
he wasnât so sure about your relationship in the beginning afraid you was too young, but you promised him with the classic saying "Iâm mature for my age, age is just a number." which was true. you had to mature faster than most. always been told that you was an old soul. you had to take on more burdens and responsibilities. you started working at the ice rink at fourteen to help with the bills. heâs eighteen and your not even old enough to have a drivers license yet.
when theo first came back into beacon hills he didnât actually believe you would be so dumb and naive enough to fall for his manipulation. his original plan was to make you fall for him to gain trust among the pack. if the youngest had full trust with theo then everybody would follow.
of course he didnât plan on becoming so immersed with the youngest of the pack. he is so enamored with you. that he couldnât follow his plan. he couldnât risk hurting you. he would set fire to the world if you asked. kill anybody who threatened you.
he didnât mind keeping your relationship under wraps. of course he got jealous of any guy who spoke to you. it was unusual that the poor guy would get threatened or maybe even killed. the murders count went up in beacon hills after he arrived back in town by just simply eliminating any guy who spoke to you. they just mysteriously disappeared the next day.
after all the supernatural shit happened in this town you needed a break. you and theo plan to get out of town for the summer. being with theo makes you forget about the massive weight on your shoulders. soon, scott will leave for college and you will have to step up and take responsibility for the supernatural of this town. soon, everybody will leave. you would never get a normal adolescent experience.
and with the your father being back into town didnât help either. you were certain you heard your mom weep the other night because of it. you couldnât stand listen to her be sad. the same old harsh feeling you had for him as a kid rosed to the surface once again.
theo parked his truck outside of where you work, the ice rink. all of his attention on you, as he wiped your tears that were falling from your beautiful eyes. the heavy raindrops hitting the outside of his truck matching how you feel. his thumb comfort rubbing your cheekbone.
"everything will be fine," he whispered, his hand finding itâs way to cup your bare thigh. his thumb rubbing smoothing circles on your warm skin. his cold hand and rings send a shiver down your spine.
to be honest he wasnât convinced himself that everything was going to be fine. he knew that the supernatural in town was taking a toll on you especially after the nogitsune possessed you. after scott "killed" the dark kitsune spirit he possessed you for quite some time. sometimes you believe that the kitsune still lives inside of you. you enjoy the misery that you cause others now. thoughts that you didnât have before now rise to the surface of your mind.
you should have stopped stiles and scott from going out late at night to find a stupid dead body, but instead you gladly agreed on going. where everything changed. where scott changed. where stiles changed. where you changed.
he kissed your lips tasting your salty tears that has slipped off your face onto your bare thighs that your sundress has failed to cover. "everything will be fine, i promise."
his forehead gently touched yours. you smile and flutter your eyes closed at his touch. your hand reached up to hold onto his bigger hand.
everything will be fine as long as you have, theo raeken by your side.

Survivors
theo raeken x reader
summary: people are being kidnapped and tested, and one day, you wake up with the startling realization that you're next. luckily, your captor releases you after something about you reminds him a little too much of himself.
tags: kidnapping, implied s3lf h4rm, implied child abuse, non-graphic
word count: 1.1k
a/n: i apologize in advance
also, i wrote this a month ago and haven't been able to title it! i've also had to rewatch parts of s5 bc i was so confused the first time around. this takes place before the chimeras start dying / when they're still being tested on and all that.
A dark cloth is pulled tightly around your head, and your hands are bound in rope. A metal pole supports your back, though it is uncomfortable between your shoulder blades. Two of your senses are rendered useless, forcing you to rely on the other three for support. Unfortunately, they aren't much help in a situation like this.
You sigh. There's no telling how long you've been here. You know you've faded in and out of consciousness three times now. This is the first time you've fully woken up and realized how endangered you actually are.
Even with the blindfold, you know you're in the dark. The hard and cold ground suggests a garage, storage building, or maybe even down in the tunnels, is where you're being kept. Who knows? A pill was forced down your throat the minute you were grabbed, your kidnapper rendering you completely unable to fight.
Speaking of which... Your kidnapper...
You wonder who they are. It's probably the doctors; they've been damning people for weeks now. Turning humans into creatures and throwing them back out into the world. Killing them if they're failures, but doing more tests if they seem to succeed.
Fear shoots down your spine as you realize you're next. You're captured, you must be their next test. You struggle against the ropes, but there's no give.
A heavy door is pushed to the side, and footsteps make their way towards you. You stop fighting immediately and prepare for the worst.
Someone crouches in front of you close enough that you can hear their breathing. They're calm in a way that horrifies you. They're not here to save you. No, no one knows you're here. No one is coming to save you.
You're startled by a gentle touch as two hands meet the sides of your head. Your blindfold is pulled down slowly, finally revealing the person on the other side. Their identity shocks you; a chill ices your body.
"You."
He sighs, glancing at the floor. "Sorry about this, Y/N. You're the one they wanted most."
"Really? And when'd you become their little errand boy, Theo? I thought you wanted Scott to trust you. Thought you wanted to be a part of his pack."
"it's all about survival, Y/N. There is a war, and I am loyal to whom I think will come out on top."
"You're wrong. The bad guys always lose, even if not in ways you'd expect. You will lose."
"Have that much faith in Scott, now do you? I don't see him coming to save you. You're all alone here. There's no getting out." You gulp visibly before you can stop yourself. "How's that for being the loser?"
"You're sick."
"Maybe. But at least I'm a realist."
You roll your eyes, looking away from him. Right now, his face is pissing you off just to see it. Two days ago, you'd admit you thought the little fucker was hot, but now, he's just a pain in your ass.
"Whatever," you snap, "have it your way. Just make it fast if you're going to kill me."
"Baby, if you've been following along, I'm not killing anyone. And the doctors aren't yet either. They're testing you all."
"For what? And don't 'baby' me."
He smiles. "To make the perfect monster. The best one for the cause."
"Which is?"
"Can't say."
"You're insufferable."
"And you're adorable when you're mad."
"Ugh!"
Theo takes a deep breath, then unties the cloth that was once around your eyes. He reaches around the side to undo the ropes, working at them for a good thirty seconds before unraveling the strongly-made knot.
"I do mean it when I say I'm sorry. Wish they picked anyone else, but they said you were special."
"I don't care, Theo. I already know this is the end for me. You're just drawing it out."
He slouches his shoulders before taking your wrists in his hands. He sits up on his knees, prepared to pull you up with him, but stops suddenly. Even in the darkness, the chimera can see the scars. Thin, white lines decorating the skin on your wrists. Some are more faded than others, but others look more recent. He stares at them for a moment, while you remain none the wiser, avoiding his gaze.
For a second, he's transported back to his childhood - kidnapped by the doctors at an early age, forced to undergo tests and experiments, and to live under their care. Forgotten by his family and haunted by his sister. The doctors didn't know how to raise a child, but they clearly didn't care. The torment he suffered still hurts every passing day, and even now, in Beacon Hills again, the pain hasn't ceased.
Theo bears plenty of scars of his own. Some are made by the doctors, some he brought on himself. It took him years to learn to not hate his body, to see the scars as a reminder that he's a survivor, not a failure.
His are littered around his body in places not well seen. The first time one of the doctors discovered them, he was punished accordingly. It's as if they're the only ones allowed to abuse him; how dare he bring it upon himself.
Theo looks at your scars and wonders what trauma is buried beneath them. What are you hiding? What emotional pain lies under the physical? Who knows your secrets, if anyone? It's none of his business, so he doesn't ask, but he closes his hands over your wrists and gulps.
"Run."
You look back at him, then at your clasped hands. "What?"
"Run. Run far from here and don't look back. Follow the pipes on the left side of the wall, and let them take you back above ground. Don't tell Scott anything I told you, it will only get you hurt. Just run, and don't let the doctors find you."
"Wait, why? I don't understand."
Theo pushes your hands into your chest and finally releases them. Fear floods through you as realization hits. He's seen you, seen your wrists, and your scars, and he's taking pity on you. But... he's letting you go.
"Just go, Y/N!" He yells in a whisper. "Go, before they come back. Any minute now, they're expecting you."
You scramble to your feet and look towards the pipes. The pipes on the left lead out, he said.
"But what about you?" You don't know why you ask. You don't know why you care. But, something deep inside you does.
"I'll be fine, I'll make up a lie. Just go!"
And so finally, you take off in the direction he points, still a little confused, but incredibly grateful.
Maybe there is some good in him. Maybe he's just as manipulated by the doctors as the rest of the chimeras. Maybe there's hope for him after all.

âHeâs working for them, YNâ
These words keep swirling around in your head, your chest heavy with pain.
You still felt like you couldnât breathe, that what you heard wasnât true and it was all a big misunderstanding. Theo couldnât be working for the Dread Doctors. Not him, not your boyfriend. He was sweet and gentle and always helped you.
It just couldnât be him.
Oh, but it was.
That little voice inside of your head was confirming what your heart didnât want to acknowledge.
You heard someone knocking on your front door before you heard âY/N?â, a voice which you immediately recognized.
Theo.
You got up from your bed and made your way downstairs, grateful that your parents werenât home for the week. You stayed hidden in the shadows so he couldnât see you through the window.
âY/N, I know youâre home. Please just open the door and let me explainâ his voice sounded so broken, which made a part of you want to open the door and let your feelings take over.
But he betrayed your trust. You couldnât do that. You couldnât allow yourself to fall into yet another of his traps like you foolishly did the first time.
âPlease go awayâ your voice spoke before your mind could stop you.
âY/N, I can explain everything, just please hear me out. I never meant for anyone to get hurt, this wasnât part of the plan. Please just let me explain what happened and you can decide what you want to do after. Iâm begging youâ you were holding back tears as you listened to him, your forehead pressed against your front door.
You knew how much of a mistake you were about to make, but you couldnât help it. Your hand found its way to the doorknob, unlocking the door and opening it to reveal a desperate looking Theo.
âCome inâ you left the door open and made your way to the living room to take a seat on your couch, knowing that he was going to follow you.
You sat down and looked at him expectantly, trying to keep your emotions at bay.
âCan I take a seat?â he motioned to the other end of the couch, looking at you for approval.
Once you nodded your head, he took a seat and took a deep breath.
âI never meant for this to happen, for things to spiral out of control and possibly put your life in any kind of danger. Hurting you or the pack was never my intention. Baby, they were going to kill you, said if I didnât do what they asked me, they were going to kill all of you, torture you right in front of me. I couldnât take any chances, not when your life was practically in my hands. I promised you I was never going to hurt you and I intend to keep that promise. It was supposed to be over, but they just kept making me do more and more and each time they would figure out new ways in which they could hurt you and I couldnât allow that to happen. Iâm sorry for everything, I never meant for this to happen, baby. You have to believe meâ by the end of his speech, you had tears falling down your cheeks at a rapid pace.
âWas any of it real?â you whispered, your eyes focusing on anything else but Theo.
âEvery single second with you was real, baby. There wasnât a single moment when being with you was fake or pretending, not one. I love you, and Iâm so sorry for lying to you and keeping things from you, hurting you. Everything I did was to protect you, baby. Everythingâ he dared to take your hand in his, his hopes lifting a little when you didnât pull away.
You knew you shouldnât believe him. He had been lying to you almost your entire relationship and hiding the fact that he was working for the enemy.
But you did believe him. Your heart truly believed everything he had said to you. Why? Because you knew Theo, your Theo, and he would never intentionally do anything that would harm you or your friends. He would never betray you like that if he had a choice, which he clearly hadnât been given.
âI wish you had just told me from the beginningâ you started out, making his head snap up to look at you. âI probably wouldâve understood. You lied to me and hurt my friends, and thatâs fucked up. I love you, Theo, and I do believe that this wasnât your choice. But baby, itâs going to take me a while before I trust you again. Iâm willing to fight for us, but I need time to process everything before things can go back to normalâ you explained, putting a hand on his cheek.
He leaned into your touch, his heart feeling full again after being ripped out of his chest.
âYou take all the time you need, baby. Iâll be right here waiting for you to come back to me. I love you, and I would go to the end of the Earth to make sure you were safe and loved. I love you, Y/Nâ
âI love you, Theoâ you whispered and leaned in, pressing your lips against his soft ones.
He wasnât perfect, and he had made mistakes, but you loved him either way and nothing was going to change that.
Not even this.

A/N: I hope you enjoy it! MASTERLIST
Everything was finally coming to an end, or so you thought. You, Theo, Liam, Nolan, and your mom managed to knock down the guys with guns in their hands. You all looked at each other letting out a breath you didnât know you were holding.
You finally thought it was over until you felt something hit your back. You shouldâve known that Gabe would still be lurking around the halls trying to get the job finished. You didnât even hear the blast of the gun as you fell on your knees.
âY/n!â Your mom cried out as she ran to move you out of the way of the shooting bullets Gabe released.
There was now a ringing in your ears.
âY/n, sweetheart stay with me now!â Your mom placed her hands on the wound that bled in your lower abdomen.
Theo got hit in the shoulder.
Nolan knocked out the last guy and Gabe managed to get himself shot in the chest. Three times. Now it was over.
âWolfbane.â Liam stayed as yellow liquid oozed out. âWe need to get it out of her system.â âIt hurts momâŠâ Your breath slightly wavered.
âI know sweetie, but you have to stay with me now, okay?â
You muster all your energy to give her a slight nod. Your eyes became droopy by the second. âMay I?â Theo butted in. Melissa hesitated but started moving to your left side keeping her hands on your stomach.
You winced shutting your eyes for a brief moment before reopening them.
He crouched down to meet your level. You looked at him wondering what he was going to do.
âItâŠhurts.â You breathed out. Theo then placed his hands on your arm.
You watched as black veins started forming. Going up in his arms. He shut his eyes enduring what you had just been feeling a second ago.
âDoes it hurt anymore?â He spoke softly rubbing this thumb arm across your forearm.
You shook your head feeling a little bit of your energy come back but not all of it.
âYou tookâŠmy pain.â You were surprised at what he did. Youâve never once seen Theo take away someoneâs pain. He only gave it, but never once took it, until now.
âI guess I do care.â He chuckled slightly, referring back to what Mason told him back in the tunnels.
âThank you, Theo.â You muttered.
You grabbed and pressed a kiss on top of his hand, some blood smearing on it. He responded with a small smile.
âNo worries Y/n.â He gazed into your y/e/c eyes.
âY/n I need to remove the bullet before it damages anything else.âÂ
âOkay.â You huffed. Your chest rising and falling.
âSweetheart this is going to hurt like a bitch.â Your mom informed you. You just gave a firm nod.
âHere goes nothingâŠâ Your mom began digging her forefinger and thumb into the wound.
âAhhh.â You growled out. Your eyes turned amber gold.
âGot it!â Your mom observed the bullet.
âY/n can you let go of my arm now.â Theo squeaked.Â
âSorry.â When you released the hold you had on his arm you saw your claw marks slowly heal. âI didnât realize I was gripping that hard.â You sheepishly avoided his eyes.
âItâs fine, I healed.â Theo shrugged.
âYou still in pain?â He gave you a once-over.
âA littleâŠâ You whispered.
âLet me.â He gave you a smirk.
He placed his hands on your arm again enduring any and all pain you were feeling. You felt the pain lift off your shoulders, but you felt a little too much pain reduce from your wound. Your gaze fell upon Theoâs face and watched as his face scrunched up.
âTheo I think thatâs enough.â Melissa placed a hand on his shoulder.
âNo, no Iâm okay I can take it.â
âTheo Iâm okay now. You can stop.â You leaned forward slightly to cup his cheek. âTheo donât hurt yourself.â
He opened his eyes slowly to meet your worried ones.
âDo you have any pain left?â He muttered.
âHow can I. You practically drained me all of it.â You light-heartedly chuckled.
âI guess Iâm not used to taking someoneâs pain away.â
âCan you two take us out of our misery and kiss already.â Liam rolled his eyes crossing his arms.
That made you both blush. You looked up and started leaning into him, he followed your actions. The moment your lips touched it felt like everything youâve ever imagined it to be. It was gentle and perfect. Theo was perfect.
You pulled back and rested your head against his.
âI love this new Theo.â You smiled.
âMe too.â He laughed. You leaned in for another kiss. You both then pulled back smiling lovingly at each other.

Flirt Your Way Into My Heart - Theo Raeken
Y/Nâs POV
"Let me take you on a date," Theo appears beside, leaning against the table and flashing me that smile that would have all the girls melting, "I at least owe it to you."
"Why should I trust anything you say?" I reply, not looking up from my laptop as I'm writing my English essay on 'The Great Gatsby' and how I find it overrated instead of the oh so romantic American Dream novel.
"Oh come on, I'll make it worth your while," He moves closer and it takes every fibre in my body not to react because honestly, Theo is hot. His dark hair styled in soft spikes and hazel eyes that change colour in different lights, ranging from a vibrant green to a deep yellowish brown. Just Theo overall is hot and everyone knows it but everything he's done in the past makes me very wary of him. Even if he has changed.
"You hit one of my pups," I reply, feeling that same anger from when I found out about Theo hitting Lydia begin to bubble, "You were willing to sacrifice Corey for your own gain."
"Let me make it up to you," He finally moves so he's behind me, leaning over my shoulder so close his breath ghosts over my neck, "You can tell me all about how much you hate The Great Gatsby," I freeze when his breath is replaced buy his lips as he presses a soft kiss to the base of my neck, on my pulse point so he can feel it jump when he presses another and another as he makes his way up until he reaches my ear, whispering "I know you want to."
I can't help myself when I jump up, spinning around and slapping him. He takes it and raises an eyebrow at me before grabbing my wrists, pressing me against the wall with my hands behind my back with one smooth motion.
"Had enough?" Oh that cocky tone really winds me up but there's nothing I can do against his werecoyote strength, "Just one date is all I'm asking and if you don't like it we can never talk about it again."
"One date," I finally agree and he lets me go butI stay where I am, composing myself because he definitely did something to little me when pinning me to the wall, "Don't expect anything else from me," I add, turning to face him with a stern tone but he just scoffs and settles on my bed so I go back to my desk and essay.
"Wait," It's at least a good half an hour later, "Why are you in my room in the first place?"

Prompt: "I'm Just So Tired" WIP
Theo Raeken was tired. Tired of constantly being misunderstood by those around him. Tired of always being the outsider, never fitting in. He had tried to prove himself time and time again, but it seemed that no matter what he did, it wasn't good enough. He was tired. Tired of always pretending to be strong. Tired of wearing a mask of confidence that was suffocating him. Tired of putting on a facade to hide his vulnerabilities. It felt like he was drowning in a sea of expectations, his own and others, and he didn't know how to keep his head above water anymore. He was tired. Because everyday was a performance. He would put on his condescending smirk, a charming laugh, and a carefree attitude, all the while dying inside. He felt like a puppet on strings, and he was just so tired. It hurt, more then Theo cared to admit, that nobody seemed to notice just how tired he was. Nobody saw the cracks in his facade, the weariness in his eyes. They all bought into the act, believing that Theo was still the confident and sarcastic chimera that everybody seemed to know.

Hey hun, just wondering if I could get a Theo Raeken x Hale!reader basically he's an overprotective brother â€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïž
derek would be an overprotective brother let's be real (i'm assuming that's what you meant? tbh i was a little confused about who was the brother but this is the result)
masterlist
Sneaking out of oneâs house in the dead of night is already a difficult task. Factor in the fact that the adults in the building all have supernatural hearing, and getting caught seems impossible to avoid. The only factor in your favor is the fact that you absolutely refuse to give up. Derek Hale can do whatever he wants to try and rein you in, but thereâs nothing he can do to stop you. Nothing at all.
Honestly, he should have seen this coming. Itâs not like any of the Hales are known for their natural rule-abiding tendencies. When Derek was your age, he was crushing on girls and giving them the bite. He should just be happy that youâre not trying to turn anyone and let you do what you please.
Thatâs what you argue, at least. Derek sees things very differently. You know heâs just terrified to lose another family member after the fire burned your home to the ground, but times are changing. You know how to defend yourself, and you certainly wonât be going down without a fight, if youâll ever go down at all.
Besides, youâre not looking to get into fights. Not tonight. In fact, youâre doing the exact opposite. Youâre slipping out of your room not to seek out danger, nor track down hunters in the hopes of starting a fight. No, youâre practicing all this secrecy because you want to see your boyfriend, a certain Theo Raeken.
You didnât count on Theo stealing your heart when he first arrived at Beacon Hills. True, his first few months were a little rocky, something about him trying to betray the McCall pack in the name of the Dread Doctors, but heâs come around since then. You didnât even start thinking about him romantically until a few months after that, once you were sure that he wouldnât try something bad like that again.
If you ask Theo, though, heâll tell a story thatâs a little different from yours. He once confessed that he started liking you from his very first day, which made it easier to switch sides once he was let out of Hell. Sometimes you wonder if he saw visions of you when he was trapped down there. You donât think heâll tell you for quite some time, though. Theo doesnât like thinking about his time in Hell at all.
Neither do you. Thatâs why the two of you prefer to let the past stay in the past, and focus only on the future and what it holds. Theo isnât an enemy to you, not anymore. Not to any of your friends.
Thatâs not what Derek seems to believe, however. No, Derek is convinced that Theo is nothing but bad news, fit only for betrayal and heartbreak. Every time he happens to see you and Theo together, you can hear his blood pressure skyrocketing and you know youâre in for a lecture once you get home. Despite the fact that Derek made plenty of worse choices in his life, such as dating a darach, you being with Theo is the worst thing your older brother has ever seen.
It doesnât make a whole lot of sense to you, but youâre not too hung up on it to let Derekâs lack of approval stop you. You donât need your brother, you just need Theo. So, you take care to be extra quiet when youâre lifting the sash of the window and climbing down the fire escape into the cold night. Theoâs truck is idling two blocks over, just in case. He gets out to greet you like he always does.
Despite the fact that sneaking out of the Hale residence gets harder by the hour, and Derekâs wrath is strengthening by the day, itâs all worth it. All of it. The moment Theoâs arms are around you, you think you could take on the world. Maybe youâll have to, it doesnât really matter. Youâve got your boyfriend, heâs got you, and youâve never been better.
Theo presses a kiss to your cheek before opening the passenger side door of his truck. âWhat do you say we get out of here?â
You laugh. âSounds great to me.â
Theo smiles too, climbing back into the driverâs side and taking off into the night. You watch the streetlights speed past you, smears of off-white and buzzing gold against the dark air. Theo navigates his way out of the endless maze of suburbs and cul-de-sacs before youâre out in uncharted territory.
You and Theo have christened a spot on the outside of Beacon Hills as yours and yours alone. The Beacon Hills Preserve is in sight, but not all that close. Too many bad supernatural encounters in those woods have somewhat lessened your favor of them. Instead, Theo parks his car on the edge of a field, letting the tall grass and wildflowers brush against his cars. The sky is wide, open as far as the eye can see. It is absolutely perfect.
Theo grabs a blanket from the backseat and spreads it across the bed of his truck. He climbs in first, then holds out a hand to help you in. You lie down on your back so you can watch the stars, leaning against Theo. His hand traces gentle patterns on your arm, soft and soothing. The night is cool, making you curl closer against him. Overhead, the constellations wink and blink, promising stories that only you could ever dare to read.
You blink once and dawn is upon you. The sun is already climbing well into the sky, coloring clouds into rose and flaxen yellow. At first, youâre content to just lie there and marvel at how easy it was to fall asleep until it occurs to you that you werenât supposed to do that at all.
One glance at the screen of your phone has you swearing under your breath. Theo is asleep by your side, and you frantically shake him awake. Heâs slow to come to consciousness at first, but heâs active in seconds when you tell him what time it is. Both of you overslept by a lot, and you overshot the time you were supposed to make it back to your house by a couple of hours. Derek shouldnât be up, not yet, but you wouldnât put it past him to check your room. Youâve been known to sneak out in the past, and after the lecture you got last time, you really, really donât want to be caught again.
Theoâs rushing the whole way back, relying on his supernatural senses to stay out of an accident. That, and the fact that no one is on the road at this hour of the morning. You imagine what a picture the two of you must makeâ most people just starting to wake up, the earliest risers starting their cars in their garages, while you and Theo are booking it down the road out of fear that your brother would figure out what youâve done.
Theo brings his truck to a stop close to your house. He peppers apologies in between kisses, then urges you to hurry before itâs too late. You wave goodbye, then take the steps of the fire escape two at a time in your haste to get back inside. You raise your window and climb inside. You hear no sound anywhere else in the apartment, and you have just enough time to thank your lucky stars that you managed to get away with this when the lights flick on, revealing Derek waiting in the shadows.
It takes everything in you to bite back a startled scream. âJeez, Derek, try not to give me a heart attack, will you?â You clutch a hand to your chest, trying to stop the accursed organ from jumping out of your chest.
Derek doesnât look remotely sympathetic to your situation. âWhy, so you can see that Raeken boy again? I know where you were.â
You wince. âYou do.â
âI do,â Derek confirms, âand youâre lucky todayâs a school day, or Iâd be yelling at you here and now. As it is, you have to get ready or youâre going to miss the bus. Do that and Iâll be even more mad than I am now.â
âI didnât know it was possible for you to be more mad,â you joke weakly.
âItâs not,â Derek says with a glare, and storms out into the hall.
You collapse to your bed, one hand rising to your head. You really hadnât wanted Derek to find out, but of course heâd known all along. Derekâs a survivor, he has been all this time. That means he has the instincts of someone searching for all the clues youâre trying to keep hidden. You have the school day as a buffer, but after that, youâre totally done for.
Sure enough, Derek is waiting for you, arms folded across his chest, the moment you close the door behind you in the afternoon. Not only that, but Peter Hale is lounging on the couch, languidly flipping through the dayâs newspaper.
You arch a brow at your uncle. âYou brought Peter into this?â
Derek groans. âHeâs a figure of authority. I thought youâd respect him if you canât respect me.â
You grin. âAre you sure that was a good idea?â
Across the room, Peter chuckles. âOf course it was. Thereâs nothing Derek likes more than someone who gives him even more gray hairs than you.â
You and Derek turn to shout at the same time. ïżœïżœïżœShut up!â
Peter holds up his hands in mock surrender, still laughing under his breath.
Derek looks back at you, brow furrowed. âWeâre not talking about Peter, weâre talking about you. You snuck out of this apartment for the fifth time this month. Iâve told you to stay away from Theo, but you were with him. Want to explain yourself?â
âWeâre dating,â you say as casually as you can.
Derek pinches the bridge of his nose. âWhy? The guy tried to kill Scott and heâs probably angling to kill you. Iâm not telling you all this just because I like hearing the sound of my own voice, you know. Iâm trying to keep you alive.â
You scoff. âYeah, because youâve got a great history with your girlfriends. Werenât you dating Kate Argent? You know, the one who burned our house down?â
Peter takes this as his sign to add his two cents. âSheâs not wrong, you know.â
Derek repeats his sentiment for Peter to shut up at the same time as you encourage your uncle to keep talking. This earns you a swat to the shoulder, and your older brother picks up his lecture again.
âIâm not the one whoâs being reprimanded, Y/N, that would be you. Iâm serious, you have to stay away from Theo. Heâs no good for you.â
âHow would you know?â You counter, âall you ever do is try to be as overprotective as you can. I mean, have you ever considered the possibility that I know what Iâm doing?â
Derek exhales slowly. âI know youâre capable, but you never know. Iâm just trying to keep you safe, is that really so bad?â
You give him a steady look. âWhen youâre being this overinvolved in my life, yes it is.â
Derek opens his mouth to argue with that, but heâs interrupted by a knock at the door. He tilts his head to the side for a second, listening for heartbeats, then mutters something under his breath about Scott McCall always needing something at the worst possible time.
You interpret that as your chance to escape, so you do so with great excitement. Derek shouts that this isnât over as you go, but youâre fairly sure it is.Â
As you hurry past, Peter calls after you. âThe back door is still unlocked, by the way. Derek will be busy for the next half hour or so.â
You grin. âHave I ever mentioned that youâre my favorite Hale?â
âBe sure to bring that up the next time I kill someone,â Peter grumbles, âI could use someone on my side for once.â
Itâs hard to control your laugh as you head towards the back exit of the apartment. You text Theo on your way out, and soon enough youâre in his truck once again, speeding away from Derek and his suffocating tendencies as quickly as you can.
Theo shoots you a nervous look as he eases to a stop at a red light. âYouâre sure everything is alright? I mean, Derekâs wrath is legendary.â
You shake your head. âWeâll be fine. Derek will stomp around for another day or so, but he doesnât have it in him to hold grudges for long.â
Theo smiles. âAs long as youâre sure about it. I donât want to get in between you and your brother.â
âYou wonât,â you assure him, âweâve had bigger fights over much less, trust me.â
Theo assures you that he does, and you let the road disappear behind you along with your troubles. As you drive, though, your uneasiness doesnât dissipate as quickly as usual.Â
A few minutes later, you think something is wrong. Glancing back, you whisper something to Theo. âIs it just me, or has that car been following us for a while?â
Theo checks his rearview mirror, then curses. âNo, youâre right. Thatâs a hunter, I recognize the license plate. Hold tight, Iâll try to lose him.â
Theo takes a few sporadic turns, but even his best attempts canât shake the guy. Whatâs more, cars appear out of the surrounding streets, slowly but surely forcing Theo to head towards the Preserve and out of sight of any passersby. The hunters stop near the mouth of the woods, and Theo has to park as well lest he risk getting in a crash.
The two of you watch the hunters emerge from their cars, weapons in hand. âStay in the truck,â Theo tells you, âIâll take care of this.â
âNot a chance,â you argue, âthere are too many of them, weâre doing this together.â
Theo looks like he wants to argue, but youâre already reaching for the door and stepping outside. The hunters issue out the usual threats about wanting to run all supernaturals out of town and whatnot. Thankfully, they arenât a patient bunch, and so youâre able to skip to the fight before too long.
This isnât your first bad encounter with the hunters of Beacon Hills, nor will it be the last. You extend your claws, letting your eyes glow. Supernatural strength courses over you and you charge. Despite the fact that the two of you are crazily outnumbered, you and Theo have one thing that the hunters donât:Â an absolute unwillingness to lose.
Thatâs what you think about when enemy blood is shed, when you snap knives and break guns and refuse to let your fear get the best of you. Thatâs what you think about when the number of hunters starts to dwindle, when they choose to run into the woods or drive away rather than join their friends in agony on the ground.
Thatâs why you win, you think. At last, you straighten up and look at Theo. Both of you are alive, and the remaining hunters are fleeing as quickly as they can. You start to smile, but before you can say too much, another voice encapsulates your thoughts.
âThat way went better than I expected.â
You whip around to see Derek emerging from his car a few paces away, blinking in surprise. He gestures between the hunters on the ground and you and Theo. âYou know, I came all this way to save your asses, but it looks like youâve already done that.â
âMaybe itâs because I can trust Theo to keep me alive.â You say pointedly.
Derek stares at you a second longer, then sighs and gives in. âFine, fine. The two of you can keep on seeing each other. Just donât make that sneaking out stuff a habit.â
You wait until Derek gets back in his car and drives away before daring to look at Theo. Silently, he raises his arms in victory, making you laugh. Maybe Derek isnât completely beyond reasoning. And maybe, just maybe, you can have both your boyfriend and your brother on your side. Impossibilities were made to be disproven.

Never Let Stiles Pick the Movie
liam dunbar x theo raeken
summary: an innocent pack bonding night goes south when something in the movie reminds theo of his past. luckily, liam's there to remind him he's not in another nightmare.
tags: pack bonding, movie night, based on the movie: the ring (2002) [i have never seen this movie, bare with me], emotional hurt / comfort, mentions of tara raeken, mentions of dread doctors, theo's nightmares, trauma, & ptsd, panic attacks, concerned liam, deep conversations, theo needs a hug (but he gets one!), mutual pining / they're in love they just don't know it yet, couch cuddling, emotional with a happy ending
word count: 4.5k
a/n: i intended to post this on halloween, but while i got it up on ao3 in time, the same cannot be said for tumblr, because i got distracted. apologies! let's just pretend it's still october, though, and besides, isn't every day spooky day for these poor teenagers?
also, i saw a post a while ago that was like, "how would theo react to seeing the ring?" and i can't find that post, but i haven't been able to let it go, thus producing this fic. if that was your post, thank you for the idea, lmao
Theo swears heâs never seen a pack do as much bonding shit as the McCall pack. It seems like every other night, theyâre at their alphaâs house. Once every week, theyâre sleeping over. And almost every single time, some stupid movie is played, and everyoneâs expected to stay for the entirety of it. He is tired.Â
Not of the pack, necessarily. Theoâs just tired in general. Heâs grateful to be included, actually, he just never expected there to be so much demand involved in being part of a pack. Theoâs gone from being the only person his age, hiding out in dark tunnels with the Dread Doctors, to his three more-or-less authoritative figures being erased from time, and him being plunged into civilization with a rowdy pack of teenaged wolves for company. And while heâs not complaining - he promises - it is a lot to take in. Especially considering half of the packâs still unsure of his presence, and one person in particular is just too sweet to him.Â
Theoâs snapped out of his thoughts as that particular person is now waving him over to the couch, a bag of candy in his unoccupied hand. He takes a deep breath. The last thing Liam needs right now is candy, considering how bouncing off the walls heâs been for the past three hours.Â
âTheo!â He calls out, after unsuccessfully coaxing the chimera the other way.Â
âWhat?â He doesnât mean to sound as tired as he is, but itâs exhausting to keep up the facade he works so hard to maintain.Â
âCome watch a movie with us!â
Mason turns out all the lights but one in the kitchen - the one right beside Theo - and shrugs at him playfully.Â
âDidnât you guys watch a movie just the other day?â Theo asks, eyes bouncing back and forth between the close friends.Â
âYeah, but this is a different one.â
âCâmon, dude, itâs Halloween. If you donât give in, Liamâs gonna be upset,â Mason urges, a smile tugging at the corner of his lips. Heâs getting better with Theo. Slowly.Â
The older boy rolls his eyes. Itâs no secret how he feels about the young wolf - no matter how oblivious Liam himself may be.Â
âWhat is it, a horror movie?â
âProbably.âÂ
Theo wants to comment on how he clearly heard Mason say he hates horror movies in the beginning of October, which contradicts the casual tone he uses about them now. Obviously, he just wants Theo to give in and join them, no matter his own reservations about the spooky tradition.Â
âAlright,â he groans, knowing heâs not winning this fight. Masonâs smile grows and he turns on his heel. Theo follows him to the living room, then nestles himself beside Liam and the arm of the couch. Mason goes to the couchâs opposite end, Corey beside him. Theo would try to avoid touching Liamâs leg, like heâs currently forced into doing, but the couch meant for three is occupied by all four of them, and no one seems to be itching to move. Liam and Corey look to have no qualms about practically sitting on top of each other. In a second, though, Corey shifts to sit on Masonâs lap, giving the beta some wiggle room, and Theo can meld a bit more into the couch and curl a little closer into the arm.Â
Across the room, Nolan and Alec are in a similar position. At first, Alec seated himself on the ground, but then Nolan coaxed him into the seat with him, making for a tight squeeze. Neither boy seems to be complaining, though, and are now sharing a bowl of popcorn much easier than they would be if Alec was still on the floor.Â
âWhat movie are we watching?â The youngest beta - now beating out Liam - asks. âThe Conjuring?â He has a hopeful tone that Theo doesnât understand in the slightest.Â
âNo, no,â Corey waves him off, âThe Ring.â Alec makes a face, prompting Corey to continue. âStilesâ choice, from afar. We asked in the group chat earlier. He was the first to respond.â
Mason shudders. âI havenât seen this movie in years. Remember, Liam?â
Liam frowns, seemingly agreeing. âI didnât sleep for weeks.â
âYour mom was pissed.â
The troublemaker then laughs at that, as if bringing his mom emotional turmoil is something to be enjoyed. Heâs just playing, though. Theo knows that about him.Â
âWhatâs it about?â
âDemon girl that kills anyone who watches a specific tape,â Mason replies vaguely, unwilling to spoil it to the unsuspecting chimera.Â
Theo raises an eyebrow but doesnât reply. The movie begins, causing Nolan to shush no one in particular - no one had been speaking at that moment - and bringing everyoneâs eyes to the screen. The familiar scent of trepidation takes over the pack, but the territory is safe. All rising heart beats and pauses of breath are to blame on the film as the narrator continues, introducing the scene.Â
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Fear lingers in the air, but theyâre used to it now. It carries a different scent - one Theoâs not too keen on - that holds a bit of thrill in it, like the pack is terrified, but theyâre enjoying it. Theoâs not quite sure heâs enjoying this movie.Â
His whole life has practically been a horror movie. He doesnât need to see one, heâs lived one for ten years. The only reason he agreed to this dumb thing was to be close to Liam and to bond with the pack. The more stupid shit he agrees to taking part in, the more accepting of him theyâll be.Â
Right now, though, heâs regretting that decision wholeheartedly. The moment he sees the girl - Samara, he thinks her name is - his blood runs cold. Her hair is long and black and covers her eyes. Her skin is pale and covered in grime. Her face is sullen, almost unreadable; he canât tell if sheâs more disappointed or angry. She reminds him of something seen only in nightmares. Something that haunts you in your darkest moments, when youâre most tired, but unable to close your eyes, because sheâs there, waiting. She reminds him of Tara.Â
Theo tries his hardest to watch the movie. He tries to focus on his heartbeat, regulating it, keeping it steady, but he can hear it accelerate with every passing minute. He tries to calm himself, count sheep, focus on Liamâs scent, squeeze his eyes shut, but nothing works. His breaking point is when Samara finds her way out of the well. The sun has completely set now, making the McCall house dark, omitting the one light in the kitchen. Samara spots the man sheâll make her victim and rushes towards him. She crawls on her hands and knees before grabbing him. Theo springs up the minute she starts to crawl, the nightmares he thought he was finally pushing away resurfacing at the sight of her. He pays no attention to the way Liam instantly panics, reaching a hand out to him. He misses the concerned drawl of his name on the boyâs tongue, the worry in his eyes. Theo scrambles off the couch and out of the girlâs sight as fast as possible. He finds himself in the bathroom and shuts the door quickly, flicking on the lights. His breathing is erratic and the panic attack is inevitable. Theo clutches at his chest and throat, claws out, ready to attack, or rip her off him, or something, anything, he has to do to keep his heart.
He misses the short sentence Liam tells the rest of the pack: âIâm gonna go find him.âÂ
He fails to hear the boyâs footsteps, or his nearby breathing, or his scent at the door.Â
He doesnât acknowledge him until Liamâs right in front of him, grabbing his hands to pull his claws away from his delicate skin, whispering, begging to know if heâs okay.Â
âTheo,â he mutters, frowning, âtalk to me.âÂ
Tears form at the edges of the chimeraâs eyes, worrying the beta further. Theo doesnât cry. He never panics, and he certainly never cries.Â
âWhat happened? You can tell me, itâs okay.â
He trusts him, Liam. He trusts him with his life. He trusts him with the truth. He just canât get the words out, canât form them on his tongue. Theo opens his mouth to say, but nothing comes out. Nothing but air.Â
âTheo,â he urges. âBreathe. Settle down with me, okay? You have to breathe.â He looks around, still holding the boyâs fists in his hands. âWhat color shirt am I wearing?â
The older boy knits his eyebrows together. âWhat?â
âWhat color shirt am I wearing?â Liam repeats, providing no context.
âI donât know, I canât see.â The color swirls around in his mind. He thinks itâs green, but his visionâs too fuzzy to tell.Â
âOkay⊠What color are my eyes?â
Theo blinks. He knows that, of course he does. He knows it by heart. He knows it in his dreams. A beautiful light blue. Where the sea meets the sky. âBlue,â he says, wanting to say more, to be more descriptive, but limited by his dizzy mind.Â
âGood. Thatâs really good. Okay. What color are yours?â
âGreen.â
Like moss agate, Liam wants to add. He doesnât. âGood. Can you tell me what shirt color Iâm wearing now?â
âGreen, I think.â
âYeah, it is. Youâre doing really well. Can you name three other things in this room that are green?â
Theo narrows his eyes, but doesnât question the prompt. âThe walls, I guess, are green-ish. That shampoo bottle up on the shelf.â He scans the room once, then twice. âThe curtain has a little bit of green in the design, if you look closely.â
âGood! Those are the same things I noticed. Thatâs great! Alright, how are you feeling?â
Theo pauses, contemplating the question. He almost answers terribly, and that heâs out of breath, and it feels like heâs going to die, but then he stills. He notices his heart isnât beating so hard that it might jump from his chest, and his vision isnât so fuzzy, he can actually see Liam in front of him, and the slight pain from his claws emerging from his palms is now absent, because his claws have retracted back into his hands, making him safe from himself.Â
Theo looks at Liam and swallows hard. He feels a bit vulnerable, but the boy isnât looking at him in a way that makes him feel like he has to hide. He looks at him with pure concern and care, and almost love, if Theo isnât mistaken. He shakes that thought away.Â
âTheo?â Liam prompts, leaning closer, squeezing his hands a bit harder, but still gently.
âIâm okay,â he finally responds. His mouth is dry and tastes faintly of blood, like he was biting his own cheeks, which he probably was. âIâm okay,â he repeats.
Liam visibly relaxes, posture deflating. âGood.â He squeezes his hand again. âYou startled me.â
âWhat happened?â He remembers the questions, remembers the feeling, but canât recall the trigger. Itâs like a gap in his memory, despite just occurring.Â
âYou had a panic attack. Maybe from the movie? I knew it was a bad idea to let Stiles pick the movie. Mason and I watched it when we were kids, and it scared me to death.â
With a sinking feeling in his chest, Theo remembers. It was the movie. It was her. Tara.Â
âTheo? You okay?â Liam senses the sudden anxiety rising in the other boy. âWhat color are my eyes?â
âBlue,â Theo replies, own eyes closing. âAnd the rug youâre sitting on is blue, too.â
Liam smiles, clearly elated that Theoâs caught on to his game. âVery good! Youâre a quick learner.â
âSo Iâve been told.â Theo finds himself smiling, but then remembers the memory that brought them here. He frowns. Liam cocks his head to the side. âThe girl in the movie.â
âMhm?â
âReminds me of Tara.â
Liamâs mouth goes dry. Nerves bubble in his stomach. âYour sister?â
Theo nods. âWhen she escapes the well and goes after that guy⊠thatâs what it was like in hell.â Liamâs face changes for a split second - a look of fear, to curiosity, then back to fear. He knows Theoâs time in hell had been⊠unpleasant, to say the least. He knows about hell from what he was taught as a kid, that itâs not a place of rest, but instead somewhere one atones for their crimes, and no matter how much they pay, they never get to find peace. He also knows Theo was desperate not to be sent back. He never gave details on what had happened to him, but he knows it was something horrible. Something for which Liam feels so guilty about; something he wishes he could wipe from Theoâs mind, erase his slate, as if heâd never been there at all.Â
Theo doesnât talk much about his time in hell. Liam always wondered if his sister was down there, too. He gets his answer now.Â
âEvery day was the same. Iâd wake up in the hospital, in one of those beds in the morgue where theyâd put the dead. Iâd climb out, gasping for breath, confused. And then Iâd wander into the halls, wondering where I am, what Iâm doing in the hospital, and then sheâd find me. Sheâd attack. She was pretty fast for, for, someone in her condition. Sheâd push me down and climb over my body, then rip her heart out from my chest, and watch me bleed until she became fuzzy to my eyes. She never stopped, no matter how much I begged. I know she was just taking back what was hers, but it hurt so goddamn bad every time.â
Liam stares, tears welling up in the corners of his eyes as Theo talks. The revelation of what occurred in all those nightmares sends a jolt up his spine. The realization that he hadnât been able to protect him from his own sister, his own nightmares, makes him choke on a sob he doesnât know heâs trying to hold back.Â
âIâm sorry,â he finally blurts out.
âWhat? Why?âÂ
âFor us watching that stupid movie! I didnât think about how it could look like Tara. I didnât know-â
âYou werenât supposed to know, Liam,â he interrupts. âHave I ever even told you what she looks like? Thatâs not your fault.â
âShe looks like you,â he assumes, âbut, like, a girl.â
âAre you saying that Samara looks like me? Because Iâm actually a little offended that you think that,â he jokes, desperately trying to rid the boy from his falling tears.Â
âNo.â Liam hits him playfully, then wipes his eyes with his sleeve. But I shouldâve been more aware that she could look like Tara. I hadnât considered that.â
âThatâs not your fault,â he repeats. âYou didnât even know Tara was in my nightmares. You knew something was haunting me, but I never told you what.â
âI shouldâve given you a better synopsis of the movie,â he mutters.
âYouâve gotta stop finding ways to blame yourself for this.â
Liamâs quiet. He has so much to blame himself for, no matter what Theoâs saying now. The older boy was supposed to be his responsibility. He wasnât only supposed to keep him in line, he was supposed to keep him safe.Â
âWhatâs going on in that head of yours?â Theo asks, trying to meet his eyes, realizing heâs been silent for much too long.Â
âYou kept waking up in the hospital?â Thatâs not what he meant to ask, but it seems his curious mind and tongue are conspiring against him now.Â
âYeah, Beacon Hills Memorial.â
Liam replays the flashback of the time he and Theo were tasked with distracting the Ghost Riders. As soon as they entered the hospital, something overtook Theo. His body was flooded with fear and his mind was hard to reach. Liam had to call his name several times, urgently, to snap him out of whatever trance he fell into.Â
Liam then remembers his plan of hiding in the morgue. He remembers the older boyâs resistance; fear, which quickly turned into defense.Â
âI think whatever happened to you, you deserved it.â He had regretted the words as soon as he spoke them, but stubbornly, couldnât take them back. They were already out, chilling the room even colder than it was. Maybe he thought them for a second, believed them to be true for a moment, rehashing in his mind all that Theo had done to him and his pack, ripping them apart at the seams, but in reality, he always knew it wasnât deserved. Everyone is at least worthy of trying to be redeemed. If hell is really the hell he was taught in school, Theo didnât deserve that fate, when all he was doing was trying to survive.Â
âLiam,â Theo repeats, shaking the younger boyâs hand vigorously. Too deep in thought, he hadnât heard the three previous times heâs called his name, but Liam finally responds now. âCâmon. Snap out of it.â
His touch brings him back to the surface, out of the memory. Theo had been hesitant to touch him, he always is, but it will always be the thing they both crave from each other.Â
âSorry.â
âYou okay?â
Liam shrugs. âYou didnât deserve what happened to you.â
âWhat?â
âHell, Tara haunting you, even the fucking Dread Doctors⊠you didnât deserve any of that pain. You shouldâve gotten to grow up like a child does, scared of a horror movie because itâs a horror movie, not because it reminds you of your past. Itâs fucked up.â
âLiam-â
âIf youâre gonna try to convince me Iâm wrong, donât even try.â
âThe Doctors chose me because I had the potential to be evil.â
âThatâs bullshit. They took you because you were a child, and children are easy to manipulate.â
âThatâs why they took Mason,â he corrects. âI was never meant to be anything good.â
âI donât believe that. Youâre good to me.â Theo looks up in disbelief, frustrating Liam even more. âYou anchor me, and youâre always there for me, and youâre my friend.â
âBut-â
âAnd look at Corey. He trusts you now, because youâve earned it. Youâre a friend to him, too. And Alec, he looks up to you.â
âAlec looks terrified of me.â
âWell, you can be a little intimidating, but youâve never given him a reason not to trust you. Youâre older than the rest of us, but mesh better with us than the older pack. Youâre like the most authoritative figure we have when Scottâs gone.â
âThatâs scary-â
âYouâre often the voice of reason in unknown situations. You protect us, all of us, sometimes from ourselves.â He drags a finger along Theoâs open palm, carefully, and relishes in the way his shoulders unconsciously relax. âI think Tara - the real Tara, your sister, not the deranged manifestation of her from hell - would be proud of you. I know I am.â
Theo sucks in a breath and knits his eyebrows together in confusion. âLiam-â
âYou canât convince me otherwise. Youâre stronger than you give yourself credit for. You survived ten years with those fucking freaks. You did what you had to do to survive, and yeah, you did some bad things, but weâve all done bad things, but none of us have paid for them as horribly as you have. And now, all those things aside, youâre doing better. Emotionally scarred, yes, but physically? They deprived you of so much, but youâre learning now. They taught you nothing but pain, how to live in fear, how to ignite fear in others, but no one in this roomâs afraid of you anymore. And youâre safe. Weâre all pack, and we protect each other.â
âNolanâs still scared of me.â
âNolanâs scared of everyone.â Liam stares into Theo until the boy finally meets his gaze. âYou didnât deserve any of the literal or figurative hell youâve been through, and Iâm proud of you for surviving it, and turning out the way you have. In fact, I quite like the way youâve turned out.â
Theo wants to let the words sink in, wants to let himself enjoy them as they fall off the otherâs lips, wants to let them warm his heart, but he still isnât used to receiving praise - no matter how often Liam seems to give it - and gives a slight chuckle instead. âHow do you think baby Liam from a year ago would react to hearing you say that?â
Liam frowns. He chooses to ignore the baby part and answers honestly. âI think heâd be glad, because he never wanted you to be the bad guy. He always hoped youâd be good.â He shrugs. âAnd now, given different circumstances, you are. So, he wins.â
Theoâs shoulders deflate, as if being proved wrong for the fiftieth time in ten minutes is finally getting to be exhausting. âYou really believe that?â
âI wouldnât have said it if I didnât believe it. I donât lie, Theo. Check my heart.â
âYouâre a horrible liar even without listening to your heart. Your eyes are always trained to the floor, and the side of your lip curls up, and your hands are restlessly clasped together.â
Liam looks up, stunned by the detailed observation. âYouâre just proving my point.â
Theo sighs, then smiles. He tries to catch a sound from beyond the bathroom door, but the screams of the characters that once filled his ears are now replaced by a haunting melody. The movieâs wrapping up to close. The demon, hopefully, was defeated.Â
âAre you okay to go back out?â Liam asks, also listening. âI think itâs finally over.â
Theo nods once. âSorry to make you miss the end.â
âI donât mind. If you hadnât run out, I probably wouldâve.â Theo begins to stand and Liam follows, still talking. âMason and I both screamed when she climbed out of the well. My mom came running so fast, heart beating out of her chest, and soothed us both before settling us into bed. Then, the next morning, we got the worst scolding of our lives.â They stand in front of the mirror, Theoâs hand on the doorknob, Liamâs pinky finger inching towards his free hand, suddenly not ready to leave. âWhen I told her we were watching it tonight, I could already hear her heart starting to beat. She got that warning look in her eyes and wasted no time reminding me of how that went last time. The fact that Mason would be here, too, was no comfort to her, considering how equally scared he was. I was honestly surprised she even let me come, because even though she trusts me, sheâs still super protective, yâknow?â Theo nods, understanding, though curious as to what heâll say next. âBut then I assured her the whole pack would be there, it wasnât just Mason and I. I told her youâd be there, and thatâs when her posture relaxed and her rambling stopped, because she trusts you. She knows you keep me safe and grounded. She knows youâre good.â
Theo swallows. He suddenly becomes aware of Liamâs pinky grazing his, and fights the urge to take his hand in his own. He tries to ask, but the words get stuck in his throat.
âCan I hug you?â Liam asks, somehow having the same question Theo did. He nods, and immediately, Liamâs reaching up on his tiptoes to hug the boy around his neck. Their bodies press close. Theo sneaks his hands around the smaller wolfâs waist, inhaling his scent at his chest. Liam nuzzles his nose into the crook of his neck, and before pulling away, plants a small kiss there without even realizing it. A shiver runs up Theoâs spine and the air around them changes. The gentlest shift of something that was once small growing into something more noticeable. Neither complain, but neither explore it further.Â
âReady?â
The skin on Theoâs neck tingles, as do Liamâs lips. A dizzying, sweet scent floods their noses, overwhelms the room. Theo opens the door, letting the unfamiliar scent rush out into the house. Liam links their pinkies as they re-enter the living room, ignores the looks from the pack, and plops back down into his seat on the couch. Theo follows, but is careful not to touch Liamâs side, despite their hands still clasped together.Â
âYou guys good?â Corey asks, pushing Liam with his socked foot. Liam rolls into Theo for a split second before Corey retracts his foot, giggling.Â
âYeah. Did Samara crawl back from where she came?â
âNo, they defeated her,â Alec supplies, eyes on Theo. He sits on Nolanâs lap still, but his shoulders are tense. He isnât quite comfortable being so close, despite having such a painful, obvious crush on the human.Â
âWhy was she so mad?âÂ
âThought you guys watched this movie before?â Corey asks instead of answering Liamâs question.
âMom turned it off before we finished it,â he reveals.
Corey looks at Mason, jaw dropped. âYou told me you finished it.â
Mason raises his hands. âI wanted to sound cool!â
Corey pushes him playfully. âYou suck!â
âWell now Iâve finished it. These two are the only ones that havenât.â He points to Liam and Theo. âWant me to rewind it?â
âNo, no, no, weâre good,â Liam says quickly. âIn fact, Iâm good to never watch it again.â He pauses, watching the screen as something else dark and spooky fills it. âOkay⊠Whatâs this?â
âChill out, itâs The Nightmare Before Christmas. Since you two big, bad werewolves canât handle an actual scary movie.â
Liam sneers playfully at the younger chimera, who just throws his hands up unapologetically. Conversation ceases as the music begins to play, and everyone begins nestling further into the couches, getting comfortable for another film. Beside him, Theoâs heart rate is calm. He still smells slightly sweet, and seems to be making an effort to avoid getting too close to Liam, but Liam decides to quickly change that by putting a hand on his arm.Â
âWhat are you-?â
âCâmere,â he interrupts, keeping his senses out for any signs of him being uncomfortable. Thereâs none, but there is a fresh scent of the sweetness they both had earlier. âCuddle me.â He puts up no fight as Liam nests himself into his personal space. Their thighs touch completely now, Liam enveloping his body with his own. He kisses the side of his head, causing the chimera to practically melt into him. Both heartbeats quicken, then relax as they settle into their new position on the couch.Â
Their closeness crosses the already thin line between them, but it was only a matter of time before that happened. Corey and Mason share the quietest of high-fives. Nolan stares, but isnât complaining, as Theo relaxing into Liam seems to cause Alec to finally relax into him, as if the older boy nonverbally assures the other, itâs okay.Â
âWhatâs this movie about?â Theo mumbles, tired still, but satiated in Liamâs arms.Â
âSkeleton wanders too far outside of Halloween-town and ends up in Christmas-town, where he causes a major ruckus,â Mason offers.Â
âMy mom used to play this movie all the time when we were kids,â Liam adds.
âSo itâs Mom-approved?â
âMhm. No creepy-crawly girls.â
He can feel Theoâs chuckle reverberate through his body. âGood.â
Liam smiles, then presses his lips into Theoâs shoulder once more. âYouâre safe,â he mutters softly. The boy beneath him relaxes under his touch.Â
