Theo raeken x fem!reader, theo confessing to reader but being rejected cause of all the stuff he did to the pack
a theo request?? anon god bless i miss him
masterlist
The first thing Stiles Stilinski says upon sprinting down the hallway to stop immediately in front of you, is, “Theo Raeken is going to kill us all again.”
The second thing Stiles tells you, without a single pause after the first nor one word of explanation, is, “And it’s all your fault.”
Stiles is prone to drama. He’s a lovely boy, sure, you’ve been his friend since you were a kid, and you’ve counted on him to save your life from the millions of dangers all living in the home you both call Beacon Hills, but you’ve learned to take pronouncements like these with a grain of salt.
So, instead of losing your mind with worry like you did the first dozen times Stiles approached you with yet another rumor of death and danger, you just smile, put the last of your books in your locker, and shut the door. Once you take a breath or two, you turn to face him at last.
“Good morning, Stiles,” you say pointedly, “How good to see you again. How was your weekend? Oh, you’re spouting off about another crazy theory? So good to hear! I know you’re going to tell it to me nicely, and you definitely won’t try to do something weird like blame me for it. That would be ridiculous, don’t you think?”
Stiles has the grace to look at least a little needled, but he still stands firm. “I’m not kidding, Y/N. We’re about to get hit by Hurricane Theo, Round Two, and when we’re all bloody, broken corpses, I’ll be having the last laugh.”
You frown. “I thought we would all be dead. How can you be laughing if we’re all bloody, broken corpses like you said?”
Stiles waves a hand irritably. “That’s why it would be the last laugh, idiot. I would rub it in your face then immediately pass away. Anyway, you’re not focusing.”
“I am focusing,” you argue, “I have been focusing on Theo Raeken for a while now. We all have.”
Stiles groans. “He’s going to try to topple our pack again, though. Look, I’ve been watching him for a while, and I know it. I can feel it. And I was right about him the first time, right? Even when you all doubted me, I was right. I’m going to be right again.”
As much as you’d like to have some snappy little comeback, you can’t deny that Stiles totally hit the nail on the head with Theo the first time around. Back when Theo Raeken returned to Beacon Hills for the first time in years, everyone in the McCall pack had been more than willing to welcome him with open arms. Only Stiles had second thoughts about the guy, and Stiles was proven right when Theo tried to kill Scott and take over the rest of you.
Now, though, you’re all aware of Theo’s twisted intentions. There’s no doubt in any of your minds that he’s still scheming, but for now, he’s been holding back. Nothing has happened to alert anyone’s suspicions more than usual, yet Stiles seems dead set in his latest theory.
You sigh and start to walk down the hallway, Stiles by your side. “Fine, then. What makes you think he’s going to pick today to attack?”
“Well, it might not be today,” Stiles admits. “Soon, though. This I promise. And I’m not just making stuff up, Y/N. He’s been acting differently. He even talked to me about it.”
You arch a brow. “You let Theo get close enough to talk?”
“Not willingly, but he wouldn’t leave me alone until I did,” Stiles grumbles.
You have to bite back a laugh. You can picture exactly how that conversation went– Stiles doggedly avoiding Theo as long as he could, Theo just a few paces behind until Stiles gave in and let him speak. Stiles hates Theo’s guts, which is understandable, considering Theo tried to murder his best friend, so whatever Theo had to say must have been important to risk Stiles’ wrath.
Now that you’re finally listening, though, Stiles is holding back the crucial information. He really is so dramatic when he wants to be, isn’t he?
You wave your hand irritably. “Alright, then. Get on with it. What did he say?”
Stiles huffs out a breath at getting rushed like this, but his face turns serious soon enough. “Well, that’s the thing. He wasn’t really telling me anything. In fact, the only thing he really did was ask me about you.”
A pause looms between you. You’re no wolf, but you swear you can hear every conversation happening up and down this hall, how the words echo in your head. It’s easier to pick apart everyone else’s idle chatter instead of comprehending what Stiles has just told you.
“He asked about me? That makes no sense. I’m human, Stiles. What would he want with me?”
Stiles swats you on the shoulder. “Hey, as, like, one of the only other humans here, we’ve got to be proud of ourselves. We have value. I don’t know why he asked, though. He didn’t mention pack stuff or anything. He just wanted to know how you were doing, if you were busy after school or something.”
Your eyes widen. “You don’t think he’s trying to kill me after we get out of class or something? What did you tell him?”
“I’m already a step ahead,” Stiles assures you. “I said you were totally busy and we wouldn’t let you near any of his traitorous pack without the rest of us there to keep you safe. He seems kind of put off by that, but he said that he wasn’t trying to kill you.”
“That’s exactly what someone who’s trying to kill me would say,” you point out.
“Tell me about it. I don’t think he’ll try anything today, at least not at school, but be careful, alright? Don’t go anywhere without one of us. I don’t like this.” Stiles says.
You shiver. “I don’t like it either.”
Theo’s attention never ends well. And, when the two of you turn a corner, you glance over your shoulder and see that someone else has taken your spot at your locker. He’s not trying to open it, just leaning against the metal. He raises a hand in greeting when he sees you looking. It’s Theo Raeken, and judging by the proud smile on his face, he knows exactly who you’re talking about.
You can’t focus throughout that class, nor the next. Theo Raeken is dangerous. He played all of you except Stiles like a fiddle the first time he was trying to kill Scott. What’s to stop him from trying to do it again? Or, worse, what’s to stop him from trying to do it to you?
You stop by your locker later that day. You had just managed to put the morning’s incident from your mind, but when you unlock the door to find a note pushed inside, it all comes rushing back. The paper inside carries no threats, but you still feel your blood run cold when you read it.
Meet me outside after the school day ends. T.R.
You show Scott and the others at lunch. None of them like it either. Scott agrees with Stiles in telling you to never go out alone, and certainly not to meet Theo like he asked. This has to be a trap. There’s no way it could be anything else.
You’re perfectly fine with that plan, but, as it turns out, it’s a little easier said than done. You end up staying a little while after class to ask a teacher a few questions about an upcoming exam, and when you emerge into the empty hallway once more, it occurs to you that you forgot to tell anyone that you were staying after. It’s not that any one of the pack would intentionally abandon you, especially not after the shift in Theo’s attention today, but they all would have assumed that someone else was with you, and left it at that.
Now, you’re wandering the school alone, listening to the sound of your footsteps echo off of the walls and wondering if he’s waiting for you somewhere. Your phone is in your hand, ready to text one of your friends to pick you up, but you don’t live far from school. It won’t take that long to get home, not if you hurry. You’re certain you can avoid him if you try.
Glancing around to make sure he’s not lingering by the door, you set out into the sunlight. Your footsteps are quick, hurrying around corners and down the sidewalk, but, as it turns out, not quick enough. Then again, how could you ever think you could outpace him? You’re human. Theo is a chimera. He could sprint down the length of your neighborhood in the time it takes you to blink.
You wait for the inevitable– claws in your throat, perhaps, or a knife in your back, something Theo-like and unavoidable, but he doesn’t kill you. Not yet. Instead, Theo Raeken walks next to you, tilts his head up to the blue afternoon sky, and says, “It’s a nice day out, isn’t it?”
You blink. Of all the ways you expected this encounter to end, talking to Theo about the weather was just about last on your list. “What?”
Theo shrugs. “It’s warm out. I don’t know.”
He still seems nice, which is weird, obviously. To be honest, this abrupt change in his usual demeanor is freaking you out more than if he’d just been his normal, scheming, threatening self. At least then you wouldn’t be waiting for the other shoe to drop.
“What do you want, Theo?” You ask at last. “Are you here to kill me or not?”
Theo glances over at you, looking genuinely surprised. “What are you talking about? I would never kill you. Y/N, I could never hurt you. You know that.”
He’s not entirely wrong. During his attempted toppling of the McCall pack, Scott nearly died, and many of you were injured, but Theo never touched so much as a hair on your head. Truth be told, back when he was still pretending to be good, you liked him a lot. He won you over fast, probably faster than he should have. Still, that was then, and this is now. You’re both on opposite sides of a war, and that sort of gulf cannot be easily crossed by anything. Least of all by you.
“Fine. Are you trying to use me to hurt the pack?”
Theo scoffs. “They’re trying to convince you to see the worst in me. I’m not surprised, to be honest. I’m not here to hurt you, Y/N, not in any way. I’m here because I want to take you on a date.”
You stop walking. This is absurd. You wait for him to start laughing or something, call an end to the joke, but he doesn’t. He just pauses by your side. “What time can I pick you up?” He continues, as if nothing has been said at all.
“Never,” you manage, “We’re not going on a date, Theo.”
He frowns. “Why not? If you’re busy this week, I can wait. It’s fine.”
“No, we can’t reschedule, because it’s not happening. You tried to murder Scott. You’re still trying to take over our pack. Why would I go on a date with you?”
Theo lifts a shoulder. “Because you like me. And don’t try to argue, Y/N, I know you do. You liked me well enough before I started moving forward with my plans.”
This, again, is a little closer to the truth than you’d like to admit. Theo was wonderful before he tried to murder everyone you hold dear. He was charming and funny. He partnered with you in class, he helped you study, he walked home with you after school. He was perfectly lovely until you burst into the Beacon Hills High School library one day to find him standing over Scott’s corpse.
“I might have, but that’s over now, Theo. I can’t love someone who tried to kill my friends. End of story.”
Theo shakes his head, brown hair flying around his eyes, which have taken on a glint almost akin to madness. “That’s the noble thing to do, sure, but you don’t have to be noble. We don’t have to be noble. It’s just you and me, Y/N. We don’t need any of them. Come on, you can’t tell me that you don’t want this.”
He says every word with such certainty that you know he believes it. You understand now why he was able to rally the other chimeras behind him, why even Liam was able to fall for his scheming. Theo is someone you want to believe. Always.
Always, even when you know better. Especially when you know better. You take a subtle step back, then two. “I can’t do this, Theo. Even if I went out with you, I’d be wondering if you were going to stab me in the back the entire time. I can’t trust you.”
His face falls. “But you want this. You want me.”
“I do,” you admit, “but that doesn’t make it right.”
He goes quiet. You wait for him to shout or swear or something like the monster you’ve been hearing so much about, but instead, he just looks towards where you were walking again. “Can I at least walk you home?”
You nod. “You remember where to go?”
“Of course,” he answers simply.
He could just recall where you live because you’re a part of the McCall pack and he needs a target. A second, calmer voice somewhere in the back of your head whispers that maybe, just maybe, it is because of you.
The walk back is quiet, but not terrible. You’re both thinking through a grave number of things. When you finally reach your house, Theo stops and faces you in front of the door. “Just–” he breaks off, then manages to finish it. “Think about it. If I were better, would you think about it?”
You let out a low breath. “Yes, Theo, I would.”
He almost smiles. “Goodbye, Y/N.”
“Goodbye, Theo,” you whisper back, and watch as he turns and leaves your house once more.
It will be a long time before you can trust him for sure. You have no doubt that he’s got something else up his sleeve. Theo Raeken doesn’t strike you as the kind to give up easily. But then again, that’s why you’re still thinking of him even after he disappears from sight. Maybe, just maybe, Theo will do good on what he asked of you. Maybe, if he was better, he would come back. Until then, you’ll watch, and you’ll wait, and perhaps one day, you’ll be able to say yes after all.

paring theo raeken x fem!reader, word count 727, genre fluff and angst, music recommendation older isabel larosa authors note my favorite writing piece 🫶🏻🫶🏻 ( masterlist )
you knew that scott mccall would never like the idea of his little sister hanging around with theo. so, you snuck around together pretending that you hated one another around the pack, but only you two know that was far from the truth. the pack would never speak to you again if they knew that you was with somebody like theo raeken. you find a thrill of sneaking around beacon hills tiptoeing around the pack.
he wasn’t so sure about your relationship in the beginning afraid you was too young, but you promised him with the classic saying "I’m mature for my age, age is just a number." which was true. you had to mature faster than most. always been told that you was an old soul. you had to take on more burdens and responsibilities. you started working at the ice rink at fourteen to help with the bills. he’s eighteen and your not even old enough to have a drivers license yet.
when theo first came back into beacon hills he didn’t actually believe you would be so dumb and naive enough to fall for his manipulation. his original plan was to make you fall for him to gain trust among the pack. if the youngest had full trust with theo then everybody would follow.
of course he didn’t plan on becoming so immersed with the youngest of the pack. he is so enamored with you. that he couldn’t follow his plan. he couldn’t risk hurting you. he would set fire to the world if you asked. kill anybody who threatened you.
he didn’t mind keeping your relationship under wraps. of course he got jealous of any guy who spoke to you. it was unusual that the poor guy would get threatened or maybe even killed. the murders count went up in beacon hills after he arrived back in town by just simply eliminating any guy who spoke to you. they just mysteriously disappeared the next day.
after all the supernatural shit happened in this town you needed a break. you and theo plan to get out of town for the summer. being with theo makes you forget about the massive weight on your shoulders. soon, scott will leave for college and you will have to step up and take responsibility for the supernatural of this town. soon, everybody will leave. you would never get a normal adolescent experience.
and with the your father being back into town didn’t help either. you were certain you heard your mom weep the other night because of it. you couldn’t stand listen to her be sad. the same old harsh feeling you had for him as a kid rosed to the surface once again.
theo parked his truck outside of where you work, the ice rink. all of his attention on you, as he wiped your tears that were falling from your beautiful eyes. the heavy raindrops hitting the outside of his truck matching how you feel. his thumb comfort rubbing your cheekbone.
"everything will be fine," he whispered, his hand finding it’s way to cup your bare thigh. his thumb rubbing smoothing circles on your warm skin. his cold hand and rings send a shiver down your spine.
to be honest he wasn’t convinced himself that everything was going to be fine. he knew that the supernatural in town was taking a toll on you especially after the nogitsune possessed you. after scott "killed" the dark kitsune spirit he possessed you for quite some time. sometimes you believe that the kitsune still lives inside of you. you enjoy the misery that you cause others now. thoughts that you didn’t have before now rise to the surface of your mind.
you should have stopped stiles and scott from going out late at night to find a stupid dead body, but instead you gladly agreed on going. where everything changed. where scott changed. where stiles changed. where you changed.
he kissed your lips tasting your salty tears that has slipped off your face onto your bare thighs that your sundress has failed to cover. "everything will be fine, i promise."
his forehead gently touched yours. you smile and flutter your eyes closed at his touch. your hand reached up to hold onto his bigger hand.
everything will be fine as long as you have, theo raeken by your side.

ceilings | stiles stilinski x fem!reader
PART ONE | part two
summary: in an attempt to bring stiles back from the ghost riders, lydia, scott and malia try to help y/n to search her memories and remember him completely.
warnings: set during 6a, kissing, possibly swearing? idk how i feel about this tbh
taglist: @brvceyamada
☾
ceilings, plaster
“okay, y/n. imagine you’re in your bedroom.” lydia’s voice calmly echoed through the room. “visualize yourself in your bedroom.”
you looked around. your bed, your shelves, your desk, it was your bedroom.
“can you see it?” lydia asked and you nodded. “okay, good. can you see your shelf? the one with all your movies?”
you took a few steps over to the bookshelf, dvds filling each individual shelf and only a few books lay around.
“yes.”
“y/n, imagine each dvd is a memory of stiles. every movie is a different memory.” lydia spoke. “you need to find the correct memory. the one that’ll bring him back.”
you pulled the first dvd off the shelf and opened it, putting the disk into your player.
can’t you just make it move faster?
“what the hell?” you wiped your cheek with your hand as the boy in front of you laughed. “what the hell was that?”
he shrugged, still laughing.
you were in your kitchen with stiles, the afternoon sun spilling through the window as you went through the cupboards.
“seriously, babe, what was that?”
“it was just water.” he chuckled, dipping his fingers into the glass beside him and flicking it at you. “don’t need to worry.”
“you’re such a dick.” you rolled your eyes, fighting the smile that grew on your face as he slowly made his way over to you.
“you love me.”
“mhm.”
“go on. say it.” stiles whispered into your ear, his arms wrapping around your body from behind and his chin resting on your shoulder. “you know it’s true.”
“fine.” you spun around so you were still facing him in your arms. “i love you, stilinski.”
he smiled and leaned in, pecking your lips.
“i love you, too.”
lovely to be sitting here with you
“can you see him? can you remember him?” lydia asked.
“it was just water.” you mumbled. scott and malia exchanged a confused look behind lydia’s back.
“y/n, you need to find a stronger memory. keep looking.”
you’re kinda cute, but it’s
you ran your hand along the different dvds before stopping on one.
you pulled it out and glanced at the cover. it was blank.
they were all blank, so you knew it would be a hard search to find the right memory.
“find a stronger memory, y/n.” lydia’s voice guided you and you placed the new disk into the dvd player.
raining harder
“you guys won!” you cheered, grabbing both of stiles’ hands in yours.
you were standing on the lacrosse field at the high school, and he was wearing a beacon hills jersey.
he was number 24.
it must’ve been winter, or just cold, because it was raining.
the grass was all soaking wet, and water dripped down your face and near your eyes as you looked up at him with the biggest smile.
my shoes are now full of water
“did i look super hot out on the field?” he joked. you knew he had only been out there for a few minutes.
“totally.” you pulled him by his shoulders and kissed him on the lips, drops of water falling off his hair.
“i did better than scott, right?” stiles asked after you pulled apart and you laughed.
“well…”
the boy made a face at you and you scoffed.
“okay, well, he’s team captain for a reason.”
“it’s fine, i know i was better than him.”
“you keep telling yourself that, buddy.”
lovely to be rained on with you
“did you find a good one, y/n? something strong?” lydia asked and you shook your head.
“keep searching, y/n.” scott’s voice was just as soft as lydia’s, but she quickly shushed him.
“y/n, you need to find a stronger memory.”
it’s kinda cute, but it’s
you looked through the dvds and picked one out at random.
it wasn’t like you could pick and choose when they were all blank.
you thought, ‘better than nothing.’ and put it in the player.
so short
“again?”
“come on. please?” stiles made a sad face as he held out the star wars dvd to you. “we haven’t watched it in like… a month.”
“we just watched a star wars movie like a week ago.”
“yeah, but that was a new hope, so now we have to watch empire.”
“okay, fine, but my mom wants me home right after.”
“yes! also, don’t worry about that. i’ll drive you.” he smiled brightly as he put the disc into the dvd player in his living room then dropped onto the couch beside you. “you know, this is why you’re my favorite.”
“what?”
“scott would never watch this with me. especially not multiple times.”
“scott never watches movies with anyone. you should know this by now.” you bumped him with your elbow.
“i know, i know.” stiles slid his arm around your shoulder and kissed your cheek. “you’re still my favorite, though.”
then you’re driving me home
you sat in the passenger seat of stiles’ jeep, which sounded like it was going to fall apart as he drove it, later that night.
you glanced to your side, staring at his face.
you could tell a smile tugged on his lips and he looked to you for a split second.
“what are you staring at, weirdo?” he asked and you looked out the window again.
“nothing.”
“liar. you were looking at me.” he teased. “cause you think i’m so hot.”
“is that a crime?”
“oh, definitely not. you can look at me all you want.”
there was silence between you two for a moment as he pulled into your driveway. you sighed.
he looked at you this time.
“do i have to leave?”
he chuckled and gave you a kiss. “i’ll see you tomorrow, y/n.”
“see you tomorrow…”
and i don’t want to leave
“keep pushing, y/n.” lydia motivated. “search deeper. you can find the one you need.”
“do i have to leave?” you muttered the words. “see you tomorrow…”
lydia sighed. “y/n, try searching deeper. you’ve got this.”
there was a growing stack of dvds being dumped on your bed after going through its memory.
you picked out another one.
but i have to go
“come on. you don’t need to go in there.” you pointed up at the building beside you inside the large gates. “you’re not crazy.”
“i don’t want to hurt anyone, y/n.” stiles spoke, sheriff stilinski standing beside him. “especially not you.”
“but eichen house?” you stared at him sadly. “stiles…”
he reached out his hand and pulled you into his chest, hugging you tight. he kissed the top of your head.
“i love you, y/n.”
you sighed, your arms keeping him as close as possible. you didn’t want to let him go. “i love you too, stiles.”
you kiss me in your car
“come on, stiles. breathe.” you cupped the boy’s face in your hands. “try not to think about it. think about something else.”
“like what?” he panted, looking up at you with sad eyes and a broken expression.
you were both sat on the locker room floor, he was having a panic attack.
“happy things. friends, family-” you stopped yourself after he gave you a look. “okay, not family. try not to think about your dad. just breathe.”
“i…” he hyperventilated. you adjusted your hands on the sides of his face. his eyes met yours.
that was all you could see. his eyes.
“stiles, just breathe.” you could see there wasn’t really a difference in his actions. you leaned forward and attached your lips to his.
his eyes went wide, but he seemed to melt into the kiss.
you pulled apart and he stared into your eyes, his breathing slowed down, the panic attack over.
you grabbed his hand and he intertwined your fingers.
and it feels like the start of a movie i’ve seen before
“i kissed him.” you spoke to lydia and the others, your eyes closed as you sat at the table in front of them. “he was having a panic attack. i kissed him.”
“holding your breath stops a panic attack.” lydia nodded, explaining to the others. “now, y/n, find something deeper. something more important to you. something more important to him.”
“to stiles.”
“exactly.”
the next dvd was higher up on the shelf, you grabbed it easily.
bedsheets, no clothes
you were lying beside stiles, running your finger along his bare chest.
he pulled you closer to him with a smile, pushing some of your hair away from your face.
“hey.” he whispered.
you smiled back. “hey.”
“that was something.”
“a good something or a bad something?” you asked, still whispering.
“definitely a good something.” he rubbed his hand up your arm. “probably the best something. i don’t know if there’s been a better something—”
“alright, i get it.” you chuckled softly.
there was no need for the whispering, it was the evening and no one else was home, but you still did.
his hand ran along the side of your face. “you’re so beautiful.”
there was no way you could’ve fought off the smile on your face as your cheeks warmed.
touch me like nobody else does
“definitely a good something.” you recalled. “he said it was definitely a good something.”
“what was?”
you went quiet again, searching through the different dvds.
some memories were shorter than others, just conversations or things like that.
“find something, y/n. good or bad.”
lovely to just lay here with you
you picked out another dvd. it was blank like all of the others, but it seemed different.
you took it off the shelf because it seemed to be staring right at you, practically calling your name.
you played that one.
the memory didn’t give you a feeling that it would bring him back, but it felt like something you needed to see.
you’re kinda cute, and i would say all of this
“come on, stiles.” you whispered. “you can talk to me.”
he was ignoring you. and you had no clue why.
he sighed and your eyebrows knitted in confusion.
it was late at night and you were both lying in his bed, him with his back to you.
“can you just… drop it?” he mumbled. “i’m not in the mood.”
“what happened, stiles?”
“nothing, just go to sleep.” he adjusted himself in the bed slightly, but didn’t face you.
“stiles…”
but i don’t wanna ruin the moment
time seemed to skip and he was sitting up, facing you.
“what? do you not trust me or something?” you asked.
“no, that’s not it—” he cut himself off. “i just don’t want to talk about it.”
“stiles, i get that, but i want to know what’s going on with you.” you put your hand on his shoulder and he, quite obviously, winced. “what’s up with your shoul—”
“nothing, y/n. just leave it.” he winced again and pushed your hand off. “i don’t need your help.”
“seriously?” you scoffed as he turned his back to you again. “you know what? whatever.”
you pushed the covers of his bed off and stood up, slipping your shoes on.
“where are you going?” stiles asked, sitting up again.
“home.” you answered. “you obviously need space, so i’m respecting that. i’m not gonna push it anymore.”
“wait, babe,” he started getting out of his bed. “i don’t want you to go.”
“i’m still going, stiles.” you picked up your backpack. “we can talk tomorrow.”
“it’s late.”
“i’m aware. my car’s outside, remember?”
“please stay.”
“i’ll see you tomorrow, or whenever you’re ready to talk about whatever the hell’s going on with you right now.”
lovely to sit in between comfort and chaos
standing in your bedroom, staring at the tv as you left stiles’ bedroom, you remembered the fact that you didn’t talk the next day.
stiles just never said anything about it to you.
not until after everything with theo was practically over.
basically everyone else knew about it, but you.
he didn’t think you would understand, which was probably the most upsetting part for you because you did.
you understood it was self defence. you understood he did it because if he didn’t he would’ve died.
but it’s over
“y/n? are you okay?” scott asked, ignoring lydia as she shushed him.
you nodded. being hypnotised was weird.
lydia had taken notice of your saddened expression too.
“find a different memory, y/n. i know you can do this.”
then you’re driving me home
the next memory you found was not long after theo was literally sent to hell.
you were with stiles in his jeep. he was driving you home again. except this time going home from scott’s house.
the car was silent, but not in the usual comfortable way. neither of you had really spoken to the other since that night, only really for pack stuff.
you were terrified that he thought the two of you had broken up, and he was scared of the exact same thing.
“i’m sorry i didn’t tell you that night.” stiles spoke up. “i should’ve said something.”
“no, i get why you didn’t. i was being pushy and you didn’t want to—”
“i did want to tell you.” he sighed. “i was so scared, y/n. i thought there was a chance that you wouldn’t understand or something and i’d lose you.”
he looked right at you.
“i mean, scott didn’t.”
“that was theo’s fault.” you told him. “scott didn’t know the full story. you know he knows the truth now.”
“mm.” he seemed to agree, but you could tell something was still off by his body language.
you took the hand he didn’t have on the wheel into yours.
and it kinda comes out as i get up to go
“you know, i still love you, right?” you told him after he stopped and he looked over at you.
“wha— oh, yeah. yeah, i know.” he nodded, avoiding your eyes, looking outside the car.
“do you know?”
he didn’t answer for a moment, then shrugged.
“i do, stiles.” you kissed his cheek. “i love you, and that never changed.”
“never?”
“not for one moment.”
he smiled, then laughed softly, then leaned forward and kissed you on the lips.
“i love you too.”
you kiss me in your car
“it never changed.” you sniffled slightly. “i still loved him after everything. he was so scared i wouldn’t, but it never changed.”
“after what, y/n?” lydia asked, hoping more elaboration would help them bring back stiles.
“after donovan.”
scott knew what you were talking about, that was something he had remembered when he thought about stiles.
“after i knew, i still loved him, and he still loved me.”
and it feels like the start of a movie i’ve seen before
then you picked up one more dvd. you just stared at its blank cover and seemed to know what it was.
putting the disk in, you watched as you ran with stiles to his jeep in the school parking lot.
this was the last memory you had of stiles. the last time you had really seen him.
but it’s not real
“y/n, babe, listen. you’re going to forget me.” stiles’ voice seemed to echo around you as you recalled the night.
“no, i won’t. stiles, i won’t.”
“you will.” he cupped your cheeks and made you look him in the eyes. “you will.”
you shook your head as tears threatened to spill. “i won’t.”
“it’s okay, just find some way to remember me. any way.”
“stiles…”
and you don’t exist
“i was the last person to see him.” you spoke to your friends. “i was there when they took him. i saw it happen.”
that night was so long ago, but all the details were rushing back to you now.
you were starting to remember it all.
not just that night, but everything about stiles.
and i can’t recall the last time i was kissed
“i know you’ll find some way to remember me.” he squeezed your hand. “ do you remember the first time we danced at the winter formal? you were the first girl i ever danced with.”
you had gone together as friends, despite everyone knowing you had crushes on each other.
“remember how we started dating that summer.”
“the summer before junior year.” you nodded.
“yeah.” he stroked your cheek, wiping away a tear. “that was the best summer of my life.”
you chuckled. “mine too.”
“remember all those sleepovers we’ve had. remember when we’ve fought. remember every time we’ve kissed, or…” he paused and just stared you in the eyes.
the interior of the car was silent, but the wind blew violently outside.
“just remember i love you, okay?” he kissed your hand. “please just remember that. i need you to.”
then he was pulled from the car. the wind stopped and he was gone.
it hits me in the car
you sat there, curled into a ball in the passenger seat, sobbing.
you muttered over and over. “i remember. just remember. i promise.”
you hated the silence, and you hated that he was gone. you didn’t even notice that he had started to slip from your mind.
not until you walked into school the next day, anxiety overwhelming you as your brain tried to remember why it felt like you were forgetting something.
why it felt like a whole piece of you was missing.
just then, remembering what it was like when he was taken, every single memory of yours that included stiles came rushing back.
memories from when you were friends as kids, up until high school. memories from after scott was bitten, back when stiles had his buzzcut.
memories from when he was possessed by the nogitsune. memories from all the times both of you had almost died.
memories of the two of you before and after you started dating. memories with scott and the pack, memories with his dad, memories alone.
all of it.
and it feels like the end of a movie i’ve seen before
you opened your eyes and looked around. you weren’t in your bedroom anymore, you were back in argent’s underground bunker with lydia, scott and malia.
“y/n.”
lydia had tried to get your attention, but stiles’ voice played over and over in your mind.
you could see bright lights coming from outside the room, and you rushed out. the three of your friends who were still there ran after you.
you stopped in the corridor, the lights so bright you couldn’t see anything.
then you could see him.
not his face, or any defining qualities at all, but you knew it was him.
he was more like a silhouette, but you could recognize stiles stilinski anywhere.
“stiles.” you breathed out, a smile breaking out onto your face.
you were finally going to have him back. after months of the awful anxiety and feeling that something was missing.
he was like the last piece of your puzzle, and you were going to be complete.
then the light faded.

Survivors
theo raeken x reader
summary: people are being kidnapped and tested, and one day, you wake up with the startling realization that you're next. luckily, your captor releases you after something about you reminds him a little too much of himself.
tags: kidnapping, implied s3lf h4rm, implied child abuse, non-graphic
word count: 1.1k
a/n: i apologize in advance
also, i wrote this a month ago and haven't been able to title it! i've also had to rewatch parts of s5 bc i was so confused the first time around. this takes place before the chimeras start dying / when they're still being tested on and all that.
A dark cloth is pulled tightly around your head, and your hands are bound in rope. A metal pole supports your back, though it is uncomfortable between your shoulder blades. Two of your senses are rendered useless, forcing you to rely on the other three for support. Unfortunately, they aren't much help in a situation like this.
You sigh. There's no telling how long you've been here. You know you've faded in and out of consciousness three times now. This is the first time you've fully woken up and realized how endangered you actually are.
Even with the blindfold, you know you're in the dark. The hard and cold ground suggests a garage, storage building, or maybe even down in the tunnels, is where you're being kept. Who knows? A pill was forced down your throat the minute you were grabbed, your kidnapper rendering you completely unable to fight.
Speaking of which... Your kidnapper...
You wonder who they are. It's probably the doctors; they've been damning people for weeks now. Turning humans into creatures and throwing them back out into the world. Killing them if they're failures, but doing more tests if they seem to succeed.
Fear shoots down your spine as you realize you're next. You're captured, you must be their next test. You struggle against the ropes, but there's no give.
A heavy door is pushed to the side, and footsteps make their way towards you. You stop fighting immediately and prepare for the worst.
Someone crouches in front of you close enough that you can hear their breathing. They're calm in a way that horrifies you. They're not here to save you. No, no one knows you're here. No one is coming to save you.
You're startled by a gentle touch as two hands meet the sides of your head. Your blindfold is pulled down slowly, finally revealing the person on the other side. Their identity shocks you; a chill ices your body.
"You."
He sighs, glancing at the floor. "Sorry about this, Y/N. You're the one they wanted most."
"Really? And when'd you become their little errand boy, Theo? I thought you wanted Scott to trust you. Thought you wanted to be a part of his pack."
"it's all about survival, Y/N. There is a war, and I am loyal to whom I think will come out on top."
"You're wrong. The bad guys always lose, even if not in ways you'd expect. You will lose."
"Have that much faith in Scott, now do you? I don't see him coming to save you. You're all alone here. There's no getting out." You gulp visibly before you can stop yourself. "How's that for being the loser?"
"You're sick."
"Maybe. But at least I'm a realist."
You roll your eyes, looking away from him. Right now, his face is pissing you off just to see it. Two days ago, you'd admit you thought the little fucker was hot, but now, he's just a pain in your ass.
"Whatever," you snap, "have it your way. Just make it fast if you're going to kill me."
"Baby, if you've been following along, I'm not killing anyone. And the doctors aren't yet either. They're testing you all."
"For what? And don't 'baby' me."
He smiles. "To make the perfect monster. The best one for the cause."
"Which is?"
"Can't say."
"You're insufferable."
"And you're adorable when you're mad."
"Ugh!"
Theo takes a deep breath, then unties the cloth that was once around your eyes. He reaches around the side to undo the ropes, working at them for a good thirty seconds before unraveling the strongly-made knot.
"I do mean it when I say I'm sorry. Wish they picked anyone else, but they said you were special."
"I don't care, Theo. I already know this is the end for me. You're just drawing it out."
He slouches his shoulders before taking your wrists in his hands. He sits up on his knees, prepared to pull you up with him, but stops suddenly. Even in the darkness, the chimera can see the scars. Thin, white lines decorating the skin on your wrists. Some are more faded than others, but others look more recent. He stares at them for a moment, while you remain none the wiser, avoiding his gaze.
For a second, he's transported back to his childhood - kidnapped by the doctors at an early age, forced to undergo tests and experiments, and to live under their care. Forgotten by his family and haunted by his sister. The doctors didn't know how to raise a child, but they clearly didn't care. The torment he suffered still hurts every passing day, and even now, in Beacon Hills again, the pain hasn't ceased.
Theo bears plenty of scars of his own. Some are made by the doctors, some he brought on himself. It took him years to learn to not hate his body, to see the scars as a reminder that he's a survivor, not a failure.
His are littered around his body in places not well seen. The first time one of the doctors discovered them, he was punished accordingly. It's as if they're the only ones allowed to abuse him; how dare he bring it upon himself.
Theo looks at your scars and wonders what trauma is buried beneath them. What are you hiding? What emotional pain lies under the physical? Who knows your secrets, if anyone? It's none of his business, so he doesn't ask, but he closes his hands over your wrists and gulps.
"Run."
You look back at him, then at your clasped hands. "What?"
"Run. Run far from here and don't look back. Follow the pipes on the left side of the wall, and let them take you back above ground. Don't tell Scott anything I told you, it will only get you hurt. Just run, and don't let the doctors find you."
"Wait, why? I don't understand."
Theo pushes your hands into your chest and finally releases them. Fear floods through you as realization hits. He's seen you, seen your wrists, and your scars, and he's taking pity on you. But... he's letting you go.
"Just go, Y/N!" He yells in a whisper. "Go, before they come back. Any minute now, they're expecting you."
You scramble to your feet and look towards the pipes. The pipes on the left lead out, he said.
"But what about you?" You don't know why you ask. You don't know why you care. But, something deep inside you does.
"I'll be fine, I'll make up a lie. Just go!"
And so finally, you take off in the direction he points, still a little confused, but incredibly grateful.
Maybe there is some good in him. Maybe he's just as manipulated by the doctors as the rest of the chimeras. Maybe there's hope for him after all.

my masterlist
“He’s working for them, YN”
These words keep swirling around in your head, your chest heavy with pain.
You still felt like you couldn’t breathe, that what you heard wasn’t true and it was all a big misunderstanding. Theo couldn’t be working for the Dread Doctors. Not him, not your boyfriend. He was sweet and gentle and always helped you.
It just couldn’t be him.
Oh, but it was.
That little voice inside of your head was confirming what your heart didn’t want to acknowledge.
You heard someone knocking on your front door before you heard “Y/N?”, a voice which you immediately recognized.
Theo.
You got up from your bed and made your way downstairs, grateful that your parents weren’t home for the week. You stayed hidden in the shadows so he couldn’t see you through the window.
“Y/N, I know you’re home. Please just open the door and let me explain” his voice sounded so broken, which made a part of you want to open the door and let your feelings take over.
But he betrayed your trust. You couldn’t do that. You couldn’t allow yourself to fall into yet another of his traps like you foolishly did the first time.
“Please go away” your voice spoke before your mind could stop you.
“Y/N, I can explain everything, just please hear me out. I never meant for anyone to get hurt, this wasn’t part of the plan. Please just let me explain what happened and you can decide what you want to do after. I’m begging you” you were holding back tears as you listened to him, your forehead pressed against your front door.
You knew how much of a mistake you were about to make, but you couldn’t help it. Your hand found its way to the doorknob, unlocking the door and opening it to reveal a desperate looking Theo.
“Come in” you left the door open and made your way to the living room to take a seat on your couch, knowing that he was going to follow you.
You sat down and looked at him expectantly, trying to keep your emotions at bay.
“Can I take a seat?” he motioned to the other end of the couch, looking at you for approval.
Once you nodded your head, he took a seat and took a deep breath.
“I never meant for this to happen, for things to spiral out of control and possibly put your life in any kind of danger. Hurting you or the pack was never my intention. Baby, they were going to kill you, said if I didn’t do what they asked me, they were going to kill all of you, torture you right in front of me. I couldn’t take any chances, not when your life was practically in my hands. I promised you I was never going to hurt you and I intend to keep that promise. It was supposed to be over, but they just kept making me do more and more and each time they would figure out new ways in which they could hurt you and I couldn’t allow that to happen. I’m sorry for everything, I never meant for this to happen, baby. You have to believe me” by the end of his speech, you had tears falling down your cheeks at a rapid pace.
“Was any of it real?” you whispered, your eyes focusing on anything else but Theo.
“Every single second with you was real, baby. There wasn’t a single moment when being with you was fake or pretending, not one. I love you, and I’m so sorry for lying to you and keeping things from you, hurting you. Everything I did was to protect you, baby. Everything” he dared to take your hand in his, his hopes lifting a little when you didn’t pull away.
You knew you shouldn’t believe him. He had been lying to you almost your entire relationship and hiding the fact that he was working for the enemy.
But you did believe him. Your heart truly believed everything he had said to you. Why? Because you knew Theo, your Theo, and he would never intentionally do anything that would harm you or your friends. He would never betray you like that if he had a choice, which he clearly hadn’t been given.
“I wish you had just told me from the beginning” you started out, making his head snap up to look at you. “I probably would’ve understood. You lied to me and hurt my friends, and that’s fucked up. I love you, Theo, and I do believe that this wasn’t your choice. But baby, it’s going to take me a while before I trust you again. I’m willing to fight for us, but I need time to process everything before things can go back to normal” you explained, putting a hand on his cheek.
He leaned into your touch, his heart feeling full again after being ripped out of his chest.
“You take all the time you need, baby. I’ll be right here waiting for you to come back to me. I love you, and I would go to the end of the Earth to make sure you were safe and loved. I love you, Y/N”
“I love you, Theo” you whispered and leaned in, pressing your lips against his soft ones.
He wasn’t perfect, and he had made mistakes, but you loved him either way and nothing was going to change that.
Not even this.

Prompt: "I'm Just So Tired" WIP
Theo Raeken was tired. Tired of constantly being misunderstood by those around him. Tired of always being the outsider, never fitting in. He had tried to prove himself time and time again, but it seemed that no matter what he did, it wasn't good enough. He was tired. Tired of always pretending to be strong. Tired of wearing a mask of confidence that was suffocating him. Tired of putting on a facade to hide his vulnerabilities. It felt like he was drowning in a sea of expectations, his own and others, and he didn't know how to keep his head above water anymore. He was tired. Because everyday was a performance. He would put on his condescending smirk, a charming laugh, and a carefree attitude, all the while dying inside. He felt like a puppet on strings, and he was just so tired. It hurt, more then Theo cared to admit, that nobody seemed to notice just how tired he was. Nobody saw the cracks in his facade, the weariness in his eyes. They all bought into the act, believing that Theo was still the confident and sarcastic chimera that everybody seemed to know.

Lacrosse
Stuck in Beacon Hills after Liam Dunbar insisted he stay, Theo Raeken wants nothing more than to run. He joins Liam's lacrosse team in the hopes of becoming a nuisance, but instead, it just brings them closer together than Theo could ever imagine.
masterlist
Theo Raeken is alive, surprisingly, and that leaves him with far less to do than he really expected. Theo always assumed that once the fighting stopped and his life was no longer in immediate danger, he’d just know what to do after that. You know, he’d live a normal life and that would be that. He would know how to exist like everyone else.
Theo is now freshly out of hell and he can confirm that he was wrong. Living is hard. You have to do it right. Decisions made in the thick of battle don’t have to be good, they just have to keep you alive long enough to make another one. Outside of a fight, though, everything matters.
Frankly, it’s a little disheartening. Theo figured he was capable enough to survive without anyone, but it looks like that might not be the case.
He’s not alone, though. Someone made sure of that. Someone stopped Theo from moving out of town despite his best efforts otherwise, and that someone would be Liam Dunbar.
Yeah, Theo can’t really believe that part. Despite the fact that Theo spent several months manipulating Liam into wanting to kill Scott McCall (and would have gotten away with it too, if it weren’t for you meddling kids), Liam still wants Theo here. Unhinged behavior.
Every other member of the McCall pack shares in that skepticism, but Liam is apparently unbothered by it. He decided that Theo would be staying, and seeing as Theo himself seems to have no say in the matter, he’ll be sticking around a little longer.
The problem is that Theo doesn’t want to stay in Beacon Hills, not really. This is the site of his great failure, his inability to topple the McCall pack like he’d been planning for so long. Even the sight of Liam is another reminder that Theo tried to make everything work according to his twisted schedule and just couldn’t do it.
At the end of the day, Liam Dunbar is– well, he’s Liam, and that encapsulates a whole hell of a lot more than Theo could ever adequately put into words. Liam flies off the handle at a moment’s notice. Liam alternates between being down in the dumps to raring to go with more frequency than a pendulum.
Liam also is the only one who checked to see where Theo was staying after the dust cleared. The only one who could be regularly counted on to watch Theo’s back as opposed to just leaving him high and dry in the middle of a fight. Theo isn’t sure how to respond to any of that, so he goes with his usual response: blank apathy with a little bit of targeted aggression. It has yet to fail him.
The fact that he’s been all but ordered to stay put so Liam can keep an eye on him is incredibly frustrating. Theo wants nothing more than to leave this whole godawful town behind him, find another pack to torment and maybe succeed there. Liam only wants Theo here so he can feel some sort of protective bullshit. After all, Liam’s the one who ‘saved’ Theo from his dark side, maybe he feels called to keep Theo in line now.
Regardless, Theo doesn’t like it. Liam apparently wants him on the straight and narrow, which isn’t anywhere in line with Theo’s idea of a good time. Instead of putting his plotting skills to good use and actually succeeding, Theo has to do boring things, like go to class, do his homework, and otherwise live like Liam and the rest of the do-gooders in the McCall pack. What a nightmare.
The only foreseeable way Theo can get out of this is if Liam gets so sick of him that he finally relinquishes the noose he’s got around Theo’s throat. So, Theo launches his best plan of attack: namely, being so infuriating that Liam kicks him out of Beacon Hills as soon as possible.
Theo is wonderful at being insufferable. He’s also very good at being adaptable. When constantly flirting with Liam’s ex, Hayden, doesn’t seem to be doing the trick, Theo switches tactics and goes after his friends instead. Suddenly, Mason and Corey can’t hang out because Theo desperately needs them for studying or something else. Liam is left alone with no one to blame for it but Theo.
Or, that’s how it should have gone, but instead Liam just grins and talks about how glad he is that Theo’s really fitting in with the rest of them. Impossible boy. Theo can’t even rely on the old classic of getting Stiles to suss out his obviously evil tactics because all of the pack members in Scott’s pack graduated earlier this year. It’s just Theo and Liam and the rest of the younger ones, and none of them are nearly as suspicious as Theo would like.
Out of sheer desperation, Theo focuses on the one thing Liam likes more than anything: lacrosse. Theo still has the reflexes, speed, and strength of a werewolf, even if he left most of his chimera abilities behind in hell. All Theo has to do is run a few laps, do some pushups, and show off the fact that he’s obviously got anger issues, and the lacrosse coach is practically jumping up and down with delight.
Theo shows up to the first practice that afternoon, outpaces Liam every chance he gets even when it means he’s heaving for breath whenever the other boy’s back is turned. It’s worth it, seeing the competitive streak flare to life in Liam’s eyes when he realizes he’s finally met his match. Yes, Theo wants to scream, that’s what I’m talking about. Hate me. Hate me so much for beating you that you run me out of this town.
Theo’s never really cared much for lacrosse, but at this moment, he thinks he’ll play it until the day he dies. He gets to run for hours and charge into other people and knock them down so he can score and score and score, never ending, always up for one more round. Coach loves him. Liam grows more furious by the second. It’s everything he wanted.
At the end of the day, Theo has to snap his mind back to reality and remind himself that this isn’t why he joined the team, not that animal roar in his ears whenever he scores but to get out of here once and for all. Pushing Liam past his breaking point is all that matters.
Theo swears to himself that he’s only there to serve as a hindrance, to get under Liam’s skin in yet another way out of thousands, but something in his chest still sparks with approval when he gets his official school jersey for the first time. There’s a number on the back, his, and some voice inside asks if he’s ever had something just for him in so long. The rage, that was the doctors’; the guilt, that belonged to his sister; but whatever he does out on the field, that is his and no one else’s.
That gets harder and harder to remember as the days turn into weeks and the whole lacrosse thing keeps getting better. Theo plays as a part of the team, they face other schools and they win decisively, Theo makes sure of it. To hell if he’s an aggressive player, that’s how you win. Even when some of that rage is directed towards Liam instead. Besides, Coach has said that Theo and Liam can fight with each other all they want in practice so long as they turn that aggression towards the rival players when it’s game time, so isn’t that basically just a seal of approval for Theo to be Theo?
The best part is that he’s good at it. Really good at it. That goes beyond a werewolf’s enhanced athleticism– Theo was made for sports, or so he’s taken to thinking since putting on that jersey. The plays make sense to him, the strategies stick in his brain even when he’s dead tired but the game must go on. Theo likes lacrosse and lacrosse likes Theo. Easy as that.
Even Liam can admit it. He keeps doing this thing where he keeps treating Theo like his friend. Whenever Theo scores a good goal or Beacon Hills High wins a game, Liam goes up to Theo and slaps him on the back or gives him this one-armed hug around their lacrosse sticks that should be awkward but somehow isn’t. For this brief moment, it’s like Liam forgets who Theo is and what he stands for, that they’re just teammates who can celebrate together, joined together by the sheer force of that victory.
The moment always ends, though. Liam’s breath catches in his chest, Theo can hear the hesitation, and he steps away quickly as if nothing happened so they can go back to hating each other. The moment keeps getting pushed off, though. Every game it takes them more and more time to remember who they are.
That extra time gives Theo chances to notice things that he didn’t before. Liam’s good at lacrosse just like Theo is, they both have that same fire in their stomachs to go out there and do something well. They both stand side by side when it’s time to face off with the other team at the start of the match, like they know they could win the whole game even if it was just the two of them and the other team should be quite aware of it, too.
Also, Liam Dunbar laughs with his eyes closed. When he really means it, that is— nothing like that polite chuckle he’ll do when someone isn’t really being funny but standing there motionless in the face of a failing joke seems to be in poor taste. Theo has seen it a few times now.
The first thing he thought was that it was a weakness. Never close your eyes around anybody or you’ll get hit before you know it. The second realization hit him like a gut punch, because Liam probably knows that but does it around Theo anyway because Liam trusts him enough for that. To give Theo a chance to strike because he knows Theo won’t do it. To close his eyes when he’s laughing and let Theo smile back at him. Trusted. Protected. No longer a threat.
Theo has always been a threat. The thought that at some point over the past few months, that stopped being true, shakes him more than he cares to admit. Not everybody around here feels the same way, and every time Scott or Stiles comes around, they always bring back a fresh current of distrust against Theo, but Liam seems to have given up on that front.
Maybe Theo has given up too. He realizes that it’s been a while since he thought of leaving. Just the other day, he was talking absently about plans he was going to make a few months from now, plans that involved him staying here perhaps forever. Liam had been there (isn’t he always?) and grinned triumphantly when Theo mentioned that. Theo hadn’t understood it then, but he thinks he does now.
There is a lot to Liam that Theo didn’t notice, even beyond the physical. He does things to Theo that Theo can’t describe. Liam makes Theo nervous, but not like hunters-and-death nervous, something else. Something like a racing heart even when he should have cooled down after practice. Something like how every time they drive together or walk together or even stand side by side, Theo can’t stop his mind from spiraling into the thousand ways they might touch, accidentally or maybe– maybe even on purpose.
Theo feels that all he can do is look, and look, and look. Liam’s hair is longer now than when they first met, it gets in the other boy’s face until he irritably brushes it behind his ears only for it to fall back in place about ten minutes later. It’s dark usually, but when the sun is setting and the windows are rolled down in Theo’s truck, Theo swears Liam’s hair looks like pure gold.
Theo can’t stop looking. He thinks that it might be all he has ever wanted to do, look. They’re in a car driving home from practice and it’s a good thing that Liam is behind the wheel, because Theo probably would have crashed a dozen times from not keeping his eyes on the road.
This isn’t what Theo was supposed to do, and he knows it, so he turns to a distraction in the form of the only answer he seems to get right: lacrosse. The championship game is coming up for the season, and Theo wants to win this one more than anything. He throws himself into training extra long, extra hard, anything to get this right. He needs this win more than breathing.
It almost works, that’s the best part. Theo loses all track of time and then he blinks and he’s there on the field, the night sky pitch black and the lights like stars forced down to earth. There’s a roaring in the stands that matches the triumphant yell building in his throat, and he realizes at last that he has done it.
God, he feels like a bullet ripped from a gun. Theo is soaring through the air, a crack of gunpowder in a shock of sound, and nothing in this world can tear him down. He won. He won. They all won, actually, and for some reason that distinction makes it better, not worse.
Theo spots Liam across the field and sprints over to him, not caring if he’s moving too fast for a human or not. Liam doesn’t see Theo immediately, too caught up in glancing around the stands like he’s looking for someone. Theo doesn’t like that in the slightest. Something in the back of his head screams that Theo is the only one Liam should be looking for, the only one that should matter in the entire damned world.
Then Liam glances up and sees Theo there before him and grins, this wide smile a bit too big for his face, so full of the same joy and passion that Theo feels right now. He almost wonders if that’s the chemosignals getting to him, both of them standing so close that their same happiness is reverberating through their bodies, building with every passing moment. It might be why he feels better than anything he’s ever felt before. It might be why he finally has the confidence to do something he’s been wanting to do for a very long time.
Liam is surprised when Theo kisses him, Theo can feel it like an electric shock against his skin. He isn’t angry, just surprised.
Theo breaks away, chest heaving, and Liam blinks up at him. “Hayden used to do that. Kiss me after games, I mean.”
Theo nods, jaw set. “Yeah, well, I’m doing it now.”
It doesn’t feel like Theo is encroaching upon some ancient tradition of Liam and his ex-girlfriend. Instead, it seems oddly as if Hayden herself is the outsider here, that Liam’s having brought her up is wrong somehow. The girl’s memory is a villain, and Liam turns a dark shade of scarlet not entirely unlike the tint of his jersey for having shattered their peace by saying her name.
Theo isn’t willing to let the moment be ruined, though, and he pulls Liam in again by the collar of his jersey. The maroon fabric twists in his fingers. It’ll turn out to be torn later, pierced by claws Theo doesn’t remember bringing out. He’s always had such good control over his supernatural tendencies. It’s just like Liam to ruin that for him.
This time, Liam kisses him back. It’s Theo’s turn to be surprised now, amazed by the force with which Liam tears down their walls.
“Easy,” he says, halfway to a laugh, “try not to break my teeth.”
“You’d deserve it,” Liam grumbles, but he’s grinning again by the time they reconnect.
There’s a shout across the field, someone calling their names. Belatedly, Theo remembers that they probably have to shake hands with the opposing team and take photos and whatnot. He says as much to Liam, who looks supremely unhappy to be interrupted in this way.
Theo isn’t bothered by it, though. Not much. Sure, the timing is inconvenient as hell, but there will be chances later: after the game debrief, in the car driving home, all night and all the next day, plus the rest of the weekend. Kind of like forever, actually.
It occurs to Theo, as they’re walking back across the field, that finally– finally– he did something right. It feels very, very good.

Ter o coração partido no final do ano não estava nos planos de Liam, mas passar o Ano Novo no sofá de um jogador de vôlei gostoso também foi uma surpresa.

Despite getting a ‘yes’ on attendance, Liam’s still slightly surprised when he hears the familiar truck engine pull up to its usual spot by the mailbox. He opens the door when Theo’s footsteps reach the top step, and pops out from behind the dark green entrance with a smile.
“Hi.”
“You’re a menace.”
“I’ve been told.”
Theo follows the little beta deeper into his house. He meets his mom, who ends up being as sweet as Liam describes, and greets Mason and Corey, who are bickering about what to watch. Up until the movie is decided, he opts to talk to Jenna in the kitchen rather than the pack of misfits across the room. Fifteen minutes later, though, her husband comes home and he knows he’ll have to succumb to the crazy soon.
Sooner rather than later - Theo was hoping he’d have at least a little more time - Liam jumps up to hug his dad, then pulls Theo by the arm all the way to the living room. He plops down on a blanket on the floor and practically tugs him down with him, offering a half-assed sorry afterwards. Theo huffs, but settles beside him. He takes note of Mason and Corey sitting rather close to their right, and copies Liam as he leans his back against the couch. Jenna and David leave ten minutes later, leaving twenty dollars on the counter top, and about thirty warnings to not burn down the house. The DVD finishes its previews right as the door locks. Theo realizes he’s trapped now.
It’s not that Theo doesn’t want to be around Liam, that’s not the case at all. The problem is the setting, where it’s late at night and a movie’s playing. It’ll be hard to control his heart rate and even worse to prevent his nightmares if he falls asleep. If he were a normal boy, without supernatural DNA, and if Liam were the same, he would kill for an opportunity like this. He’d agree immediately and sit beside him without hesitation. As the night went on, he’d inch closer and closer until practically cuddling the other boy, if he let him.
But Theo can’t, and he won’t, and he stays still, and controls his heart. A few times, Liam’s shoulder brushes up against his and his focus dwindles. At one point, Liam moves his head close enough that his lips brush Theo’s cheek. It was an accident, by the way he moves away quickly, but he’s not too embarrassed, because he goes right back to his ear, this time with a better understanding of where Theo is.
“You can relax, y’know? This isn’t a pack meeting or anything, this is just us hanging out. You don’t need to pretend around me, or any of us.”
Theo struggles with that. One, that Liam can sense he’s holding back, and two, that he’s putting so much strength into his mask, he’s missing the movie entirely.
“What are we even watching?”
“Ant-Man, because there’s one scene at the end that Corey finds really funny, and he’ll happily sit through the whole movie just for those three seconds,” he explains. “But Paul Rudd is hot, so Mase and I don’t mind. Plus the movie is pretty good, I have to admit.”
Theo doesn’t respond. His mind sits on the idea of Liam finding the man on the screen hot. It’s not that he doesn’t agree, it’s the fact that Liam finds him hot.
Liam.
Who dated Hayden.
Who begged Theo to come tonight, because he “wanted his company,” and sent about a hundred kissing emojis to beckon him over.
Liam, who just grazed his lips against Theo’s cheek and didn’t even flinch.
Theo’s mind is suddenly really busy. And between the dark room, and the peaceful atmosphere, and the fact that he’s not in his truck, staring up at the fabric headliner, but leaning against Liam’s shoulder - how did that happen? - he starts to feel tired. He hasn’t slept well in days. Weeks, really. Maybe even months.
Scratch that, Theo’s not sure he’s ever slept well. The last day in his mother’s womb was probably the last good sleep he’s ever had.
But right now, next to Liam, inhaling his scent, close to Corey and Mason, - two people he used to doubt but now trusts - Theo feels himself nodding off.
Liam thinks the man on the screen is hot.
Liam’s beside him, touching him, almost kissing him.
His head is spinning.
Tara’s not in eyesight or earshot of him. The movie tunes her out. Liam grounds him.
His head slumps from Liam’s shoulder to his lap, but he barely notices.
Liam does.
“Mase, give me that blanket.”
“This one?” He holds up a suede blue one.
“No, the weighted one.”
“Oh. Here.”
“Thanks.”
“Is he sleeping?” Corey asks in a whisper.
“Not yet, almost.” Liam drapes the blanket over him, from his shoulders to toes. Theo shifts slightly to welcome its warmth and the comfort it brings.
Something heavy caresses his body, but it’s nice. He nestles his head deeper into his pillow - Liam’s lap, unbeknownst to him. A gentleness massages his head - Liam’s fingers playing with his hair - but he’s too relaxed to find out the source. In record time, Theo dozes off. His heart rises and falls steadily through the night. He doesn’t wake, nor cry, nor sweat. He sleeps peacefully, indulging in the comfort of the new environment.
Liam falls asleep with a hand still in his hair, backed up against the couch. He’d watch him sleep if he could, make sure he doesn’t wake from a nightmare, but the gentle lull of his anchor’s heartbeat puts him to sleep quickly.
Corey laughs silently at his favorite part - Thomas the Tank Engine suddenly becomes so massive, he breaks through the house’s roof. He throws his hands in the air in a quiet cheer.
When the movie’s over, Mason collects him into an embrace to sleep.
The sun rises early in the morning, but Theo doesn’t. Everyone wakes up one-by-one and takes extra precaution to be quiet. Liam knows things Theo doesn’t know he knows. He wanted his company tonight, but he also wanted him to sleep. He hadn’t expected his crash to be in his lap, but Liam is certainly not complaining about it.
Corey’s the last to wake. It’s nearly nine. Theo fell asleep at ten. Liam wants at least one more hour, a full twelve hours of undisturbed sleep. It’s likely he’ll be too embarrassed to come back to another movie night. Liam’s prepared for that. But he desperately hopes that this rest instead convinces him to stay more often, even if it means sneaking carefully through his window. His mom’s already approved that, if it gets him off the streets.
“Is he still asleep?”
Corey receives three sets of fingers to lips. He apologizes silently with wide eyes and wild gestures. Mason corrals him out of the living room and into the kitchen.
Theo’s still sleeping at ten. His heart’s still steady. He looks beautiful, painted in sunlight.
One more hour, Liam decides. At least one more.
