Fandom-brained white women truly don't view black female characters as female at all and extend that to black adaptions of them. They NEVER give black actresses a chance, they always jump to harrasment because they think blackness is stripping them of girlhood and inherently makes them unrelatable to them at the same time they get mad at black girl geeks for not relating to white girls as much as we do our characters and cry about how 'their childhood is ruined' as they don't care about the improvement and validation it gives to black women who grew up on literally the same shit because they think we don't,aren't,can't be female and it's not even just transmisogynoir because the most cis black women of all times get called tomboys and even 'manly'.Fuck's sake man,i'm literally a black trans man because i'm afab and bigender/genderfluid but fem presenting to the max and that includes that not only do i not want t or surgeries but actually find the thought of them actively distressing because it's defeminization and masculinization
Black women are women.Black female characters are female characters.Black women know the female experience as much as white women do,if not BETTER.Colonisadoras shut the fuck up and go back to talking to your racist ass cis white boyfriends. And to everyone who cyberbullies black actresses for playing childhood roles but most of all Leah Jefferies,i have two words for you:Drop and Dead. You've earned it after being abusive and borderline fascistic pieces of shit

Love and Basketball - 2/2 | westallen fanfiction
A/N: Iris' POV. Enjoy.
...
Chapter 2 -
One hour earlier…
The ding from Iris’ phone made her rush to it at once, thinking it was Barry. It wasn’t. It was her only bestie, Linda, so she ignored it. She wasn’t in the mood to chat about anything Linda wanted to talk about, and she didn’t want to take out her foul mood on the raven-haired beauty. It wasn’t her fault she felt so sour over her fight with Barry.
But, as so often happened when Linda really wanted to talk, she called.
On the fourth ring, Iris forced herself to pick up the phone.
“Hey!”
She forced fake cheer into her voice, hoping Linda couldn’t pick up on it.
“Where are you? The game’s about to start.”
Iris hesitated, debating how much to tell her.
“I’m…at home.”
Linda frowned on the other end.
“You’re not coming?”
Iris sighed and collapsed on her bed and the multiple outfits she couldn’t choose between.
“Barry and I got in a fight.”
“Did you guys break up?!” Linda panicked.
“No!” Iris shouted into the phone, because there was no way in hell she’d let that rumor fly. “It was just a fight. We’ll get past it.”
“So…I’m confused. Are you coming or not? There’s still time to make it. You’re just down the block from school.”
“I know…”
“Plus, if they win this game, they’re headed to the championship! It’s exciting to see, even if Barry wasn’t on the team.” She paused. “Which he basically isn’t. I mean, Coach never lets him play.”
“Hey!” Iris scowled. “That’s my boyfriend you’re talking about.”
“That you’re currently mad at.”
“I’m not mad at him.”
“But you had a fight.”
“He got a little jealous…and I didn’t react well to it. He probably doesn’t even want to see me.”
“Or he feels bad and hopes you’ll still make it, on the off chance he does get playing time.”
Iris sat up and frowned.
“Did he tell you to call me?”
Linda looked across the court to see Barry looking in her direction hopefully.
“I don’t have to answer that.”
Iris scoffed, but she felt hope rising in her. Maybe Barry wasn’t mad at her. Maybe he didn’t want to be in a fight any more than she did.
“I’ll be there in 10. Save me a seat.”
Iris was there in 15, but Linda had indeed saved her a seat. The game was in play, and once Iris was settled, she fought to catch Barry’s eyes, but it was hard when he was facing the opposite way on the bench. As Linda had predicted, Coach was not letting him play. As much as Iris hated to admit it, he had good cause behind that decision, even if it wasn’t fair to her quite uncoordinated, overly enthusiastic, easily distracted boyfriend.
Selfishly she wanted Barry to get time on the court, at least to feel what it was like. And how was he going to get better if he wasn’t even allowed to try? But of course all Coach cared about was winning. And Barry was no star player, team captain Eddie Thawne was.
Iris remembered when she’d pretended to crush on Eddie in front of Barry to see if he’d get jealous. He had, but in hindsight she hadn’t seen it. She’d been oblivious as hell in those days. She wished she could get Barry to see that.
The score was tied at the beginning of the fourth quarter, and to her surprise, Iris saw Barry stand up and glance at the stands, catch her eye for the longest moment of her life before going to talk to Coach.
“Oh, no, Barry, what are you doing?” she whispered to herself.
It looked like a heated argument, and Iris worried Barry was asking to put himself into the game. He’d never done that before. She wondered if it had anything to do with her.
“What’s he doing?” Linda asked, noticing too.
Iris shook her head.
“No idea, but it can’t be good.”
“I have an idea,” Linda said, and the girls shared a knowing look.
A few minutes later, a whistle was blown. One of their players was injured. Coach had to send someone new in to replace him, and to everyone’s astonishment, he sent in Barry.
Iris’ and Linda’s jaws were on the floor.
It was a lost cause, of course. No one would pass Barry the ball. Iris’ heart ached for him, trying so hard to succeed, probably for her, trying to prove himself as worthy of her affections when he didn’t need to. He’d never been in competition with anyone.
If only she could make him see…
“Oh, my god!” Linda gasped, and Iris focused back on the game.
Someone had thrown Barry the ball!
He turned and looked at her on the court. He was at a terrible angle and was making no effort to get to an easier one to make the shot – and that’s what he was doing. Trying to make the shot. For her.
Just before the ball left his hands, he mouthed the words, ‘This is for you’, while looking straight at her.
Her eyes widened, wanting to believe, but worrying for him if he didn’t make it. She hoped with everything in her that he would.
“Is he…?” Linda asked aloud, but Iris didn’t answer.
Instead, she watched in horror as the ball hit the rim and bounced into their opponent’s hands.
"Aww, honey," Iris whispered.
Deflated, Barry was called off and someone else replaced him. She couldn’t catch his gaze again. It was glued to the floor for the rest of the game – which the team won, no thanks to him. Still, he looked to be happy for his team as Eddie was lifted off the floor for making the winning shot.
Well, Iris would have none of Barry feeling down in the dumps for a missed shot. It had taken a lot of courage and confidence to even convince Coach to let him play, and to be so forward about getting the ball when he was on the court. To turn and look at her and try to make a shot for her?
Iris felt honored. The fact that he hadn’t made it was neither here nor there.
She was proud of him and over their fight, and she needed him to know it.
So, while he was in a huddle with his team, she made her way down to the court, not answering Linda when she tried to find out what she was doing. She didn’t have time for that. Not when Barry’s heart was on the line.
Her timing was impeccable.
He’d no sooner pulled out of his team’s embrace with a fake smile on his face than she was in front of him, yanking him down for a passionate kiss – or, as passionate as two teenagers could kiss appropriately with people still in the gym potentially watching him.
Still, Barry was mystified and awestruck, as was often the case with anything having to do with her.
“Whoa. What was that for?” he asked, his heart eyes making her want to burst, his hands still resting on her waist and their lips inches away.
“I love you,” she said, making his eyes widen, because four months in… that was a first. “And I think tonight’s the night.”
That made his eyes widen even further. Because he knew exactly what she was referring to, and that would be a first too.
His mouth hung open for a good few seconds before he pulled himself together.
“But…aren’t you mad at me?”
She shook her head.
“No. Not anymore.”
“Really?”
She nodded.
“But you have to work on the jealousy thing, Barry Allen!” She smacked his chest lightly. “You’re the only guy I want, the only guy I’ve ever wanted.”
Shock reverberated through him as those words sunk in. Instead of arguing the point, he decided to accept them, especially given the precarious state of their relationship.
“Okay.” He wrapped his arms around her and pinned his forehead to hers. “Okay, I’ll work on it. I’m sorry.”
She smiled tremulously.
“Good. You’re forgiven.”
“And I love you too,” he said, his eyes flickering to her lips. “So much.”
She smirked and kissed him again.
“Oh, I know,” she teased, and he chuckled.
“Let’s get out of here,” he said. “Someplace quiet and warm.”
Her eyes darkened, and she smirked, taking his hand.
“You’re on.”
It ended up being the backseat of his car parked on the outlook of a park on the highest hill in the city. Not the most romantic or comfortable, and a little awkward given it was both their first times, but it was perfect for them.
And next time would be even better.
“You made the shot, Barry,” Iris said, grinning from ear to ear, and he knew she was not referring to the basketball game.
He nuzzled his face against her cheek, sending chills down to her toes.
“I certainly hope so.”
His voice was gravelly, but he was blushing beat red when she turned to look at him, and she decided that was just the way she liked him.
Confident and bashful and all hers.

while I normally don't care about m/f ships, I do like a bunch. I think my favorite dynamic for m/f ships is "X is the most powerful person in the world, while Y can lead them around by their pinky and X will smile" obviously they still need to be good and cute in other ways and X doesn't actually need to be the most powerful person in their verse and Y doesn't have to be powerless.
Some examples
Clark Kent/Lois Lane Clois superman
Barry Allen/Iris West-Allen westallen the flash
Percy Jackson/Annabeth Chase Percabeth PJO
Raven/Beast Boy Bbrae Teen Titans
Peter Parker/ MJ Watson Spider-man
Ororo Munroe/Logan Howlet Rolo X-Men
Zidane Tribal/ Garnet "Dagger" Alexandros FF9
Sora/Kairi Sokai Kingdom Hearts
Alibaba/Morgiana Alimor Magi
Rogue/Gambit Romy X-Men
Many more
don't get me wrong, this can be done poorly, a lot of the time when X is a woman, it will be about lessening her so that she is more obedient or fits more with Y . Or Y can be abusive to X, but it's written in a supposedly romantic and X is so powerful that it's okay. That's not what I'm talking about. What I'm talking about isn't control, or obedience, or abuse. What I'm talking about is x being comfortable with letting their walls down and letting Y feel more human (for lack of a better word). It's about Y trusting X to never hurt them even with all their strength and wanting to make them smile. It's about Y standing beside X when they unleash their power because they know X will never hurt them.
Also to be clear, this dynamic can be interesting in F/F, M/M, ships with nonbinary partners too. I personally realized that a lot of my favorite M/F ships fit this specific dynamic.
If you like dynamics like these feel free to add you own.

Watched the 401 sneak peak (it’s so cute I’m gonna die) and I have two thoughts:
1. Ricky climbing through the window and saying that if Gina’s mom catches him up there she’ll kill him (I’m really hoping that just means Gina’s mom is a little overprotective and not that she doesn’t like Ricky) feels very Chekhov’s gun-ish. All I’m saying is I wouldn’t hate it if Ricky pulled a Prince Charming in Cinderella 3 and jumped out the window.
Tumblr media
2. The song that Ricky and Gina are working on, what if in the finale we have a flash forward and we go full WestAllen wedding with their song being performed as Gina walks down the aisle. I feel like a flash forward has to happen since almost all the teen drama shows from the 90s-00s all ended on a flash forward (Dawson’s Creek, The OC, One Tree Hill, etc.) and HSMTMTS is styled and inspired by those shows.

CW Flash Rewrite
Hi! I wanted to try and do a cw The Flash rewrite. I acknowledge I am not a writer. This is just for fun!
I own nothing DC owns. Warning for child abuse mention (Wally’s past). Please let me know if more warnings are needed. Stay safe and enjoy!
This is going up to a season 1 mid season finale. I really did like how they cut the main villain into arcs A and B with A being stopped in some way in mid season finale. The B villain is Thawne and the A villains are the rogues.
Rogues of Season 1A: Captain Cold, Heatwave, Golden Glider, Pied Piper (who’s a bit younger, maybe 16-17, recently kicked out by parents)
Okay. Barry still goes to Starling but comes back to his fiancé Iris West. As awesome as WestAllen is and their journey, I’d think it’d be better to start here because reasons you’ll see.
Barry and Iris are planning stuff for the wedding and Iris is nervous because her brothers haven’t RVSP yet. Her brothers, Rudy and Daniel, don’t have a close bond but Joe isn’t abusive. They just don’t see each other enough. Barry is aware Iris has nephews (Wally and Wallace) but has never met them.
Barry gets struck by lightning and is in a coma for 9 months. He wakes up in a hospital and they tel him what happen but to him, they talk very slowly. He shakes it off. Iris is called and picks him up. She waited for him but she has news. Her nephews have been placed in her custody.
Barry freaks out and then realized everything stops. Barry sees Iris still and the world the same. Good thing, too, because a driver is going to hit them. Barry grabs Iris and pulls her out of the car and he gets a look at the driver and bam! Normal time starts again. Iris stares at him and he stares back. “Oh, fu—“
The driver keeps going but Barry recognizes him. Leonard Snart.
Iris is confused and Barry said, “I think I’m like Jay Garrick.” Iris nods. She knows about his favorite comic book character (the one who got him through his parents’ tragedy).
She has to go to work so Barry runs her to work and promises to pick up Wally and Wallace from high school and elementary school.
Iris is a reporter already at Central City Picture News (not the Citizen yet) so she does some investigating (even sometimes using one of the intern’s comic books) when news of a bank robbery is happening. A bank robbery where the guy has an ice gun.
Barry…isn’t doing so good. He shows up in his car, that he ran home to grab and then rushed to Wally’s school—meaning he was late. Wally stared and then got in the front seat. Barry tries to make small talk but Wally isn’t really responding. They’re even later picking up Wallace. He apologized but Wallace doesn’t talk to him either. Wally is 16 and Wallace is 7. They make it to Barry and Iris’ house and that’s when he sees the news.
Barry is so used to going to crime scenes after—maybe he can stop one before anyone gets hurt. He runs upstairs and grabs what his teen self created as cosplay of the flash and changes.
He hears a “woah.” And turns to see Wally.
“No time to explain. Watch your cousin. Back in a flash.”
Barry and Cold have a cool (ha!) fight and Barry wins.
Episode ends with Iris and Barry kissing.
The rest of arc 1A is finding the other rogues and Barry and Iris taking care of Wally and Wallace. Wally is hesitant to trust Barry but eventually he wins Wally over. At one point, Rudy West and the Manhunters kidnap Wally two episodes before mid season finale (two episode arc) and Barry is trying to save him and come to terms with the fact that he sees Wally as his son.
They save him but he was hit by lightning too. He doesn’t end up in a coma for very long (a week) and finds out he has powers. They train but Barry is hesitant to let Wally into the field.
Mid season finale has Barry almost losing to the fully formed Rogues when Wally comes in and helps him out. They save the day and Wally recognizes Piper from school. They don’t talk much as the season will show with Wally in school sometimes but Hartley’s story is pretty popular at school—especially for bullies. Wally tries to shut it down when he can but it’s not like they’re friends. He tries to stop the cops from arresting them (he has nobody to bail him out) but Barry pulls him back, whispering “we’ll help him but we have to protect our identities first.”
Wally looks hesitant and then nervous as we see Iris come into the scene but before she can speak a voice calls out, “Flash…um…Younger Flash!” Iris turns and it’s the intern who had comics. “Linda Park, CCPN…intern. Can I have a statement on tonight’s events?” Again, Wally remembers her from school. Linda Park writes for the school newspaper. She’s in four of Wally’s classes—not that he’s aware of that. Nope. She continued, “Why is Hartley Rathaway working with…um…rogues? Oh, yeah! That’s a good name.”
Wally frowns. “It’s complicated. Not that you’d understand.” Then he rushes away.
“Is…is that your statement?” She asked Barry, who shrugs then runs too.
“Do you need a ride home, Linda?”
“Yes, please.”
Look, I wanna see WallyLinda but I also wanna see them grow!
Mid season ends with a blonde man coming through a portal. Running through a portal.
That’s all I’ve got. Hope you liked it. Let me know if you’d like more!

The Flash Season 5 - Retrospective Review
Well, I finally made it to the Eric Wallace era in my rewatch. The Flash season 5 is in the rearview, but there are still 3 seasons left in the rewatch. I probably won't be caught up until like a month into the new season. In any case, season 5 rewatch was interesting. To me, season 5 is filled with a lot of faults. There are issues with the character arcs with almost every arc. In spite of that though, I quite enjoyed season 5 as a whole. Its definitely a significant uptick from season 4 because it is at least never boring to me.
I think what season 5 got right was tone. The Flash traditionally has always been the strongest when leaning into emotions. Season 3 struggled a bit with the doom and gloom tone, and season 4 especially struggled with the oscillating tone with trying to humorous and then also having some pretty dark elements. Season 5 gets the balance right, being closer to what seasons 1 and 2 were in tone. And a big part of that was the refocus on bonds between family, blood or otherwise. This season felt like the entire Flash family was very much united and at ease with each throughout the season. Obviously the center of the show was the introduction to Nora and her relationships with both Barry and Iris. The WestAllen family dynamic is one of the strongest aspects of the season. It isn't without its issues from a writing POV, but it certainly gives a lot of emotional drama and there are some good arcs for each of the characters and their relationships. Even the side characters have emotional arcs. Caitlin/KF also has a refocus on her family, with both her mother and her father coming back into the mix. Ralph feels more integrated into the team Flash dynamic as compared to season 4, Joe and Cecile have an arc of becoming a working couple together, and Cisco too has a self reflective arc about what he wants with life and about finding love. These arcs largely play to casts strengths and so they are more emotionally involving then they might otherwise be. Even the Cicada storyline is a family based storyline and there is a bit of a mirror reflection between Orlin and Grace with Barry and Nora. I also think the new Wells worked fairly well as he had his own active storyline where he investigated Nora and discovered the Thawne secret.
I also think the humor is a lot more consistent this season than it was in season 4. In season 4, it felt like the cast and writers were overdoing due to the criticisms of season 3 being too dark. Season 5 feels like the humor and heart were more smartly balanced with emotion. Certainly the Elseworlds crossover was one of the funniest crossovers because it really utilized the comedic chops of Grant, Melissa, and Stephen quite well. There are some pretty strong episodes. The show celebrated its 100th episode in this season with 'The Past is Prologue' which was an excellent episode apart from the ending result of the Cicada fight. The scenes with Barry, Thawne, and Nora are excellently acted and play a key role in the finale of the season. It was actually pretty clever. The Time loop episode 'Cause and XS' was also pretty good. The show embraces its goofy roots with 'King Shark vs. Gorrilla Grodd' which was a blast, with surprisingly decent effects for a show of its budget. I feel the finale was quite strong and emotionally moving, with a nice tease for COIE. There aren't any episodes that I particularly disliked this season, despite my issues with certain character arcs.
There are definitely some big issues with the season and the various character arcs. Starting with Nora, who has the most major character arc. While the character is overall likeable, there is an inconsistency in how she is portrayed. While she is a late 20's adult, the characterization often feels like that of someone in their late teens, early 20's. That is sometimes a little grating. She is also shown to be impossibly naive at times. Iris benefits greatly from having moved out of team Flash leader role, even though she is nominally called that a few times. But this season does feel like Barry is back in the role of leader of team Flash as he should be. Its good to see Iris being more of a journalist and establishing the CCC. However, she does have moments towards the end of the season where she again throws Barry leaving her to go into the speed force in his face and not understanding Barry's distrust for Thawne, which makes her seem a bit callous. Cisco's self reflection arc, although well acted, feels out of character for him. I didn't really buy him deciding to let go of his powers because the show didn't really convince me, in this season or the next couple, that he wanted to let go of the team Flash life. I think this story arc was partially because Carlos was thinking of leaving so they made this as a contingency plan but it didn't really work. I liked seeing Caitlin's KF origins gets explored with the re-emergence of Thomas/Icicle but what should have been a multi season arc is wrapped up in 2 episodes. And there is a tease for Caitlin's mother which never panned out to anything. Sherloque has this random romance with Renee Adler which is extremely throwaway. The character also didn't quite have the bonds with team Flash that previous Wells' did. The show struggled at times on what to do with Ralph. I think Sherloque filled the shoes of what Ralph may have otherwise been doing. So it does feel like he is in the background for large parts of the season. He is involved in the beginning, when investigating the identity of Cicada, and towards the end, when he figures out the connection between Thawne and the dagger. In between there are episodes like 'Goldfaced' where he is prominent but there aren't too many of those. Then the show also got into this bad habit of having Cecile constantly promoting realizations due to her abilities. It gets a bit annoying. Joe is absent for about half the season due to Jesse's back injury and he is missed. Barry's character is largely consistent and more matured this season. He does feel like a dad. There are times where it does feel like he cedes the lead character role to Nora this season.
I think the biggest issue with this season though is Cicada. On paper and in theory, a meta human serial killer is a great idea. It makes perfect sense to flip the threat. The idea of Cicada being an uncle who is going after metas due to what happened to his niece is also a good idea. However, the show unfortunately didn't execute the character well. For one thing, the dagger becomes an OP device and it renders team Flash consistently useless against Cicada, barring KF. So again there is a sense of repetition of Cicada constantly beating them and getting away. The show oversells the character by saying that none of the heroes across the multiverse could stop Cicada, which became quite silly given that the dagger is only supposed to work on dark matter. Then there is a Cicada II/Grace, who is not given any depth at all because she really only turns up for the last third of the season. Unfortunately, both Chris Klein as Cicada/Orlin and Sarah Carter as adult Grace/Cicada II, ham it up way too much. The background villain, Thawne, ends up being more compelling, but that is not surprising given that Thawne has been the best villain in the show's history so far.
But overall, despite my criticisms, I think the season overall retains a pretty strong emotional core and at the center of that is Jessica Parker Kennedy, who was just inspired casting to play Barry and Iris' daughter. We saw teases of her in the previous season, but here she is an absolute delight and she looks so much like what Grant and Candice's daughter would look like. Its quite funny to think that she's older to both of them but she definitely doesn't come off that way in the show. Grant and Candice both get to play more matured and emotional roles as parents this season and the WestAllen family dynamic is key to the success of the season. As always, Carlos, Danielle Panabaker, Hartley, and Jesse bring a lot of heart and humor to the table. Tom Cavanaugh now delivers his fourth iteration of Wells, and despite an unnecessary french accent, is great as always and his is at ease when playing Thawne. Its his signature role. Danielle Nicolet blends into the team and is likable. Overall, season 5 is like a 7/10.

"Has fandom ever ruined a pairing for you?*"
In a sense. Like, I never cared about Stydia and I was very confused about the ship because before I watched Teen Wolf, I got a lot of asks for me to make Stydia vids then when season 4 aired I decided to watch it and then go back and watch all of the seasons since Stydia was so popular and I was like ... I don't ... get it...but I was indifferent to them as a pairing but then Stydia shippers came into my inbox and then I went from indifferent to just turned off.
Sort of like with Bamon, I was already critical of Bamon but Bamon shippers just exacerbated it and made it worse.
Same thing with Westallen shippers.

Love and Basketball - 1/2 | westallen fanfiction
A/N: Will prob update later today. Enjoy!
...
Synopsis: HS!AU - After an argument with his girlfriend, Iris, Barry is determined to prove he's worthy of her on the court, as well as off.
...
Chapter 1 -
“Put me in the game, Coach.”
Barry sounded irritated, agitated, but the request wasn’t new nor was it welcome, so all the coach did was wave him off.
“Please. My girlfriend is in the stands. She’s never seen me play, and we kinda got in a fight earlier, so-”
“Not my problem, Allen. And fyi-” He glanced at him briefly. “TMI. I don’t need to know about my players’ love lives or lack thereof.” He paused. “Who even is your girlfriend?”
Barry took a breath.
“Iris West.”
Coach gaped.
“Iris West? As in, the captain’s daughter?”
Barry nodded hastily.
“I don’t know how you managed that, and I don’t know if you’ve heard that already, but it’s probably not going to last. Especially if your relationship is based off how well you play on the court. Because newsflash! You’re not very good. No, no, I’d wager you’re the most uncoordinated player I’ve ever had on a team.”
Barry frowned.
“How did I make the team then?”
“Oh. Let’s see…your mother and my wife are besties, and your father is the esteemed baseball coach of many years. Call it peer pressure.”
Barry mulled that over and successfully managed to not be offended, for the time being.
“Please put me in?”
“Allen, we are in the fourth quarter in what amounts to the game before the championship. If we win this, we’re in the big leagues. Right now, the score is neck and neck. We’ll probably win by a single shot, and that shot won’t be coming from you.”
Barry frowned again.
“Why not?”
“Because you can’t make a shot to save your ass.”
“But-”
“Now sit down and cheer for your teammates like the team player I know you are. It’s what you’re best at.”
Disappointed but not seeing a solution in sight, Barry turned away from his coach and headed back for the bench. He looked to the bleachers for a second and caught sight of his girlfriend. She looked worried, which he supposed he should be grateful for, given the huge fight they’d had earlier that day.
He’d gotten jealous over Oliver, the football captain she’d had a major crush on before Barry admitted his feelings for her – and Eddie, the basketball captain, same thing. Iris had a penchant for crushing on the top dog traditionally attractive guys in their class. Which was why he hadn’t thought he had a chance in hell when he finally got up the courage to tell her how he felt and ask her out on a date four months ago.
She had surprised him though by not only saying yes, but by informing him that he’d been her biggest crush of all – him, in all his 5’11 nerdy glory. He wasn’t much to marvel at physically, but apparently she had a fondness for his brown hair and green eyes and freckles that dotted his neck and chess like some sort of pattern. And she’d thought so for years. As far back as 8th grade when he’d really started to tower over her height-wise.
She just hadn’t said anything, because, well, they were best friends, and she didn’t want to ruin that. Him confessing his feelings changed her mind in a heartbeat though, and he forgot all about her other crushes.
That was until Oliver Queen had opted to nominate himself for class president, and Iris had declared she’d vote for him a thousand times over. Barry’s jealousy had boiled over unnecessarily when he’d asked if she’d vote for him, her boyfriend, if he was to run for class president. She’d said she would, but there was hesitancy in her voice. He was sure of it. And he blew up into a basketcase of insecurity and jealousy on the spot.
From the look in her eyes now, he presumed she wanted to reconcile from their fight as badly as he did, but he also wanted to prove himself, that he was just as good as any other guy on the team or any other guy she’d crushed on before him – or perhaps was still harmlessly crushing on.
But he couldn’t do that if Coach wouldn’t even give him a chance.
Then an idea occurred to him, and he spun around, making a beeline for the man in charge.
“Sit down, Allen,” Coach said before he could open his mouth.
He could not be dissuaded.
“Five minutes.”
“No.”
“Five minutes, or…or-”
“Or what? You going to cry to your mommy?” He made a mocking crying gesture with his fist.
“No.”
“That’s what I though-”
“My dad.”
Coach paled.
“You wouldn’t.”
“I wonder what the principal would think after my esteemed coach father tells him that you’re not treating your players equally.”
His jaw dropped.
A whistle was blown, and they both looked on the court.
Teddy Jameson was on the floor, wincing in pain. He was able to get up soon after, but he was limping and clearly unable to play.
“No, Jameson, not you!” Coach cried out, then he scanned the players on the bench looking at him hopefully.
“Put me in,” Barry begged. “You can replace me with someone else in five minutes. Just…five. Please.”
“ARGH.”
Coach dragged his hands down his face, frustrated, but nodded.
“Alright, Allen, you’re in. But five minutes only. Less than that if you screw up.”
“Deal.”
Barry jogged out onto the court and found his spot. The rest of his teammates looked at him and then the coach, mystified, but the whistle was blown again, and the game was in play.
Barry fought for several minutes to catch the gaze of anyone who had the ball, but no one would throw to him. His five minutes was almost up.
Then miraculously, he ended up near the hoop when everyone else was held up by the defense.
“Me! Me! I’m here! Throw me the ball!” he cried.
Not knowing what he was completely incapable of, the crowd started to cheer to throw him the ball until Eddie Thawne had no choice but to toss it to him.
Barry’s height prevented anyone from intercepting it. Once the ball was in his hands, he spun around, glanced into the crowd, found Iris, and mouthed ‘This is for you.’
She looked panicked, but he was convinced this was his moment.
He turned to look at the hoop, lined up the shot as best as he could and threw the ball.
One, two, three seconds passed, all in slow motion.
The ball hit the rim of the basket and bounced right into the hands of a player from the opposite team.
Coach blew his own whistle.
“Allen! Out!”
Deflated, he walked off the court and sat back down. Cisco, his other best friend, sat beside him and squeezed his shoulder.
“Good effort,” he muttered, but the encouragement was lost in the roar of the crowd as Barry was quickly replaced by a slightly better player on the bench.
As far as he was concerned, he’d lost. He’d failed. And Iris was as good as done with him.
He couldn’t even look at her.
His gaze stayed pinned to the floor for the rest of the game when their team one from a single shot – no thanks to him.
He summoned all the strength he could to put on a proud, happy face for Eddie who had shot the winning point and sent them to the championship, where undoubtedly, he would not be playing at all.
That was the way of things though, he thought. For a guy like him, the good things never lasted.
Reluctantly, after the cheering huddle had dispersed, Barry turned to look for Iris in the crowd, dreading the look of pity on her face.
He nearly tripped over his own feet when she appeared suddenly before him on the court and yanked him down for a searing kiss.

If Only She Knew - Chapter 2 | PREVIEW
A/N: I’m tired, so the rest will have to come tomorrow, but here’s a preview! Enjoy!
@andromidagalaxie
...
Barry had never been as still in his life as he was right now with Iris’ head on his shoulder, the back of her hand against his knee, and him hardly daring to breathe if she moved either any further.
The fact was, it was happening again. He was getting a boner.
He’d been getting them the last few weeks – not just around Iris, around other girls too, and at super inconvenient times, but almost always when Iris was present. He’d taken to wearing extra long t-shirts and baggy pants until Iris took note and questioned his fashion. Then she’d tried to take him shopping, and he absolutely put his foot down at that. He’d never be able to find it then.
How Joe hadn’t caught on to his increasing anxiety over this new dilemma never ceased to exasperate him. How could he not know?
Or maybe he did know, and he just wasn’t saying anything.
Nah, Joe wouldn’t be that cruel, Barry thought confidently.
But his inward grin started to fade as his self-assurance wavered, and he grew wary of Joe’s true intentions.
“Hey, you two ready to get something to eat?” Joe asked, loud enough to rouse Iris from her sleep but not too loud that she would complain about it.
“Mm, yes,” she said, nuzzling into Barry’s shoulder and wrapping her arms around his. “Pancakes, please.”
Joe shifted his gaze to Barry’s extremely pale one in the rearview mirror.
“What about you, Bear?”
“I’m good,” he said, appetite gone, though his stomach would probably say otherwise.
“You like pancakes too, remember, Bear?” Iris mumbled against his shirt.
“Oh. That’s…you’re right, Iris. I do like pancakes.”
“Blueberry ones,” she reminded him.
“Mhmm, blueberry ones,” he said, more to get her to stop talking than because he actually remembered.
Meanwhile Joe was still eyeing him suspiciously in the mirror.
“So… Mama Bear’s Diner?”
“Yessss,” Iris slurred.
“Sounds good,” Barry forced.
Joe stared a few moments more and then focused back on the road.
“We should be there in roughly twenty minutes.”
