"A Place of Mind"-1
Our next brief was named "A Place of Mind", a brief that called for imagination and wild reign on our creativity.
Originally, I was struggling a bit to come up with an idea as the brief seemed more aimed towards environment artists, but I remember the examples of artists that Neil showed during class such as Bosch. Therefore, I decided to take it to a more surrealistic approach for my task.
I came up with the idea to do some sort of a creature that was an amalgamation of limbs and skin tissue. The next step for me was to gather different references and inspirations, and my mind inmediately went to FromSoft games such as Elden Ring and Bloodborne. Another big reference was the character Chaos from Hades.
In addition, thanks to the Zbrush slideshow when you idle a bit on the app, I discovered an artist named Teemu Hartikainen that made an incredible art piece that had a very similar shape language of what I had in mind.

The Leafs and the Expansion Draft
This past Sunday, the protection lists were made public by all NHL teams, including the Toronto Maple Leafs. Here is who they protected:
Tyler Bozak (F), Connor Brown (F), Nazem Kadri (F), Leo Komarov (F), Josh Leivo (F), Matt Martin (F), James van Riemsdyk (F), Connor Carrick (D), Jake Gardiner (D), Morgan Rielly (D), and finally Frederik Andersen (G).
In my opinion, this list gave me one surprise, which we’ll get to later. Now, here’s the list of Leafs players who are unprotected and can be claimed by the Vegas Golden Knights:
Brian Boyle (F), Eric Fehr (F), Colin Greening (F), Seth Griffith (F), Teemu Hartikainen (F), Brooks Laich (F), Brendan Leipsic (F), Joffrey Lupul (F), Milan Michalek (F), Kerby Rychel (F), Ben Smith (F), Andrew Campbell (D), Matt Hunwick (D), Alexey Marchenko (D), Martin Marincin (D), Steve Oleksy (D), Roman Polak (D), Antoine Bibeau (G), Curtis McElhinney (G), and Garret Sparks (G).
Yes, these are a lot of names to go through. If you want to know the more important names that were left unprotected, those names are Brendan Leipsic and Kerby Rychel. These two were a vital part of the Toronto Marlies organization this past season, boasting 51 and 52 points each. The head honchos who created these lists decided to protect Matt Martin and Josh Leivo instead of these two. From what I’ve seen so far, this has created a very positive negative response from Leafs fans on social media. So, let’s talk about that.
In my opinion, I feel like both Leipsic and Rychel do not fit Mike Babcock’s style of team. In hind sight, either Kapanen, Soshnikov, Leivo, Leipsic and Rychel are all deserving of that 4th line spot on the right wing if not higher, but Babcock wants a guy who can kill penalties as well, hence why Kapanen and Soshnikov get the nod. This is why Leivo was held to very few games despite having very good stats in the handful of games he was given to play. Babcock really likes his offensive capabilities, but prefers guys like Kapanen and Sosh who can play defensively as well. But why Leivo over Leipsic and Rychel?
Babcock gave Leipsic a crack on the Maple Leafs roster during the horrid 2015-16 season and scored his first career against the Vancouver Canucks in spectacular fashion, but I guess that was not enough to impress the head coach. Rychel was traded to the Leafs on the 25th of June in 2016 in exchange for Scott Harrington and a conditional pick and has never made his debut in the blue & white. My guess once again is that he does not fit Babcock’s style of play, hence why he is exposed.
The reason for Matt Martin even being protected is because there are not many enforcers left in the NHL with skill like Matt Martin. He may not be the best offensively, but he was a part of the 4th line that was crucial in Toronto’s game two victory in overtime against the Washington Capitals. He fits Babcock’s play style, hence why he was protected.
Vegas’ team will be revealed tomorrow, so it will be interesting to see who Vegas selects from the Leafs or if the two teams make any deals with each other.

KHL’s Salavat Yulaev Ufa’s foreigners Linus Omark, Philip Larsen, Teemu Hartikainen, Sakari Manninen and Juha Metsola all left home during the month long season suspension. Omark also told the media he isn’t going to be going back to Russia anymore this season. So unless Ufa is full of morons, expect them to get behind the decision to pull out of the playoffs along with Jokerit, Barys and Ak Bars, because they currently don’t have their #1 goalie or their top forwards.

(LEAD) (Olympics) S. Korea crashes out of men's hockey tournament with loss to Finland
(ATTN: ADDS details from para 5)
By Yoo Jee-ho
GANGNEUNG, South Korea, Feb. 20 (Yonhap) — South Korea ended its run in the men’s hockey tournament at the PyeongChang Winter Olympics on Tuesday with a 5-2 loss to Finland.
South Korea battled back from a 3-0 deficit with two quick goals in the second period at Gangneung Hockey Centre in Gangneung, before Finland countered with an insurance goal early in the third and advanced to the quarterfinals. Finland added a late empty-netter for good measure.
South Korea, ranked 21st in the world, managed 19 shots against the fourth-ranked Finland. Coached by former National Hockey League (NHL) defenseman Jim Paek, South Korea dropped all three matches in the preliminary round to fall to the playoffs, and lost its one last chance to stay in medal contention.
In four losses, South Korea scored three goals and gave up 19.
South Korean forward Ahn Jin-hui (C) celebrates with his teammates after scoring a goal against Finland during the qualification playoff match in the men’s hockey tournament of the PyeongChang Winter Olympics at Gangneung Hockey Centre in Gangneung, Gangwon Province, on Feb. 20, 2018. (Yonhap)
South Korea missed a good scoring chance right off the bat, as Michel Swift’s shot went off the shoulder Finnish goalkeeper Mikko Koskinen in the opening minute.
South Korea wouldn’t get another opportunity as close as that one for the rest of the period.
Finland capitalized on its first power play at 4:42. Unmarked in the left face-off circle, Petri Kontiola one-timed home a gorgeous, backhand cross-ice pass by Eeli Tolvanen to give the Finnish a 1-0 lead.
Tolvanen nearly got in on the scoring act himself with about six minutes left in the period, when he hit the side of the left post with goalie Matt Dalton caught out of position.
Finland outskated and outmuscled South Korea throughout the period, and picked up where it left off to start the second.
South Korea also had some bad luck with the puck in the middle frame. In the opening seconds, Kim Sang-wook had a wide open chance off a rebound but could only hit the right post. Then at 3:44, Kontiola was credited with his second power play goal of the game when a pass intended for Teemu Hartikainen at the top of the crease went in off the skate of South Korean defenseman Bryan Young.
South Korean forward Kim Sang-wook (C) battles Finnish players for the puck during the qualification playoff match in the men’s hockey tournament of the PyeongChang Winter Olympics at Gangneung Hockey Centre in Gangneung, Gangwon Province, on Feb. 20, 2018. (Yonhap)
Less than three minutes later, Finland went up 3-0, as Miro Heiskanen fought off a check from Brock Radunske and wristed one home from the high slot.
But just when they looked to be out of the game, the South Koreans started pushing back.
Radunske put South Korea on the board at 10:06 in the second, scoring off a rebound from an Eric Regan point shot. But it was Kim Sang-wook who did all the work on the play, as he took the puck from the right wing and circled around the net before feeding Regan and getting the secondary assist.
Energized by their first goal after back-to-back shutout losses, South Koreans found an extra gear and started buzzing around the Finnish net.
Just 2:03 after Radunske’s goal, Ahn Jin-hui cut it to 3-2 with a hard wrist shot from the left face-off circle. Shin Sang-hoon stole the puck deep in the Finnish zone and set up streaking Ahn, who zipped one past Koskinen high on the glove side.
Dalton, as he has done for years, kept South Korea in the game with some big saves, before Finland gave itself some breathing room with its third power play goal of the night.
Defenseman Alex Plante got called for a questionable hooking penalty at 7:02 in the third, and just 18 seconds later, Juuso Hietanen poked home the loose puck to make it 4-2 Finland after a mad goalmouth scramble.
That goal appeared to have deflated South Korea, which managed only two shots on net in the third period.
Paek pulled Dalton for an extra attacker with more than two minutes left to play, but Sakari Manninen scored into the empty net with 6.1 seconds left to seal South Korea’s fate.
