Dracfield Fanfic Preview
I'm having a blast working on this big dracfield fanfic I have, but it's a slow process. To make myself feel better I wanted to post a little snip bit as like a preview without actually spoiling the largest part of the story. Here's the summary for a little context: In order to get out of a sticky situation, Teddy Lobo pressures Renfield into doing cocaine and the results are messy. Leading to Dracula having to aid his loyal servant in the simple task of getting cleaned up. This little section is heavily implied Tedfield for funsies, but let it be known that this story is not a tedfield fic. So I hope not to disappoint people by clarifying this is the extent of any tedfield stuff really since the story is about dracfield, but let me know if I should write a full blown tedfield fic. :3
What started as one bottle of tequila turned into a second. Then a third. But that wasn’t enough for Teddy. Robert timidly downed as many drinks as Teddy and his entourage handed him. He wasn’t much of a heavy drinker. Being inebriated to such a level would spell disaster not only for his master but also himself. He would surely fail his master by being too drunk to function or at worst, protect him when he needed it. Still though, Robert was always a social drinker and you couldn’t get any more social than being around Teddy and the Lobo gang. Hollering, laughing, and carrying on like the tightest of friends. It wasn’t long before the scenery switched from the Lobo home to a rowdy bar where the drinks continued to flow, to the point where Robert was starting to wobble. Teddy was absolutely sloshed from the beginning, but that didn’t stop him from being the fun loving center of attention. He was really good at that, even as his declarations of a good time became nearly incomprehensible with all the slurring he was doing. He tumbled into furniture and people alike. It was a little amusing to Robert to see the man in such a state.
After Teddy flailed an arm firmly over his shoulder, probably as a way to keep himself more steady, Robert decided it was probably for the best that Teddy be taken home. Everyone else was way too busy enjoying themselves in their own drunken worlds so Robert decided he’d get Teddy home first and come back for everyone else later. While his legs were a little shaky, not helped by how fidgety Teddy was being, Robert was still in his right mind to get back home. Practically dragging Teddy out into the parking lot, with one of Teddy’s arms over his shoulder holding his wrist and his other hand holding firmly on Teddy’s waist to keep his legs from dragging against the ground. Robert was surprised with how little resistance he was getting. Usually Teddy would fight against his grip to keep partying but he seemed content being led away by him. Mumbling under his breath too quiet and too garbled for Robert to fully understand him. Teddy leaned his weight against him, nuzzling his nose into the side of Robert’s neck, causing him to sharply suck a breath in through his teeth. His body let out an involuntary shudder and he felt Teddy smile against his skin. He was getting a kick out of that. Robert grumbled to himself. Smug little twit. Still he smiled. The sensation of the other man pushing his weight against him; trusting him to practically glide him back to the car was nice. The feeling of his warm breath against his pulse point was more intoxicating than the alcohol in his system. The feeling of having someone, anyone relying on him again made his chest flutter. Robert sighed, how quick he was to feel this way was almost shameful. He’d be damned if the slightest bit of touch was all it took to light a fire in his soul and yet, any sensible person could tell he was damned a long time ago. Once he made it back to the car, Robert had to lean Teddy’s body against his side, hoisting him up with one arm as he opened the door with the other. He gently laid Teddy down across the seats. With a slight jostle, Teddy shifted over to glance up at him. Eyes glossy, lips slightly parted as he took short breaths. His chest heaving as he rested his cheek into the leather. His entire face flushed, no doubt from all the alcohol and his once tightly slicked back hair had strands falling all over the place. “Robert…” He muffled softly. The sound of his name coming from Teddy so tenderly brought heat from his core to his cheeks. How he wondered how sweet it would sound to make Teddy call out his name like that more…no! No, he thought. What the hell was wrong with him? He was grateful Teddy had no insight into his mind like his master did. Not that it would have mattered regardless at this moment. Robert prodded Teddy’s leg with his finger tip. He was completely out cold. Robert sighed as he stood a moment letting the night air cool his face. It was only then when his mind was clear from worrying about Teddy and the buzz in his system began to ease that he had the feeling he was being watched. Before he could step back to close the door, he felt a strong pair of hands clasp against the back of his shirt and the other firmly pressed on the back of his head. Before he could even react he was forced violently forward, having his brow line smashed against the top of the inner frame. Robert stayed on his feet but his unseen assailant was quick to lay a few body blows and ended with a hard stomp in the back of his knee. Robert landed against the pavement, he gritted his teeth as he felt the flesh of his palms scrap against the ground. While he was down the man who assaulted him made quick work of the fight with a swift kick right into the side of Robert’s jaw and everything went black.

You know about homestuck? Man I don't wanna sound demanding but I would really to know what you think of a EGS/HS crossover. Because I really like the idea, either the EGS cast dealing with sburb and troll bullshit or the HS cast dealing with magic. Of course if you don't have any that's fine.
I was there DAY ONE. I got into Hussie's stuff vis-a-vis Team Special Olympics and And It Don't Stop, I was reading Problem Sleuth live through the last 500 or so pages, and I was STOKED to see Homestuck start. BUT YEAH I have extensive EGStuck thoughts. FIC IDEAS POST-BREAK.
So I have two ideas, one leaning EGS flavor, the other leaning more Homestuck flavor. The first is THE UNIVERSITY.
Sburbless. The game constructs (IE Sylladexes, Strife Specibi) are a kind of magitek, same as the TF gun. The EGS crew and the kids knew each other via the internet through their formative years (Rose was Ashley's internet girlfriend), and arranged to go to college together at ANDREW HUSSIE UNIVERSITY (home of the Fightin' Weasels!). The trolls landed the year before, refugees of a broken empire that was in its death throes... oh, and they used the same magic. Publicly. Though some forms of transformation (EG bloodcaste alteration) were punishable by death before. The Uryuoms (who ARE interdimensional space aliens, same as the Alternians) had tangential contact with them and were able to sort of guide first contact so it didn't end in immediate war (and the Uryuoms come out of concealment at that point).
The story is mostly a slice of abnormal-life, with Tedd's magic lab trying to get to the core of what makes magic tick, Rose writing treatises on troll culture and how it's adapting to earth, and Karkat inadvertently (or possibly deliberately?!) flirting pitch with Justin (spoiler: they do, and it's messy and weird and awesome).
Other loose ideas for this setting:
Vriska is WAY more comfortable with human culture than troll culture after a very small amount of time. She's part of a small and vocal "fuck Alternia, we're earthling trolls now" movement.
Grace's origin is almost unchanged, BUT they used troll genetics for some of her brothers. Damien had tyrian-based mind control abilities that he used to make the researchers submit to his will.
Terezi decides she's going to be Sarah's friend five seconds after she meets her when Sarah slings Dresden-level snark back at her.
Sarah, meanwhile, is part of a WEBCOMIC CLUB... that only has her and Dave in it. She does The Wizard Sarah. Dave does Sweet Bro and Hella Jeff. The club does very little.
Elliot and Nanase take over the college STRIFE! club. They need to get a prof to be the official head of the club... and Tensaided isn't doing anything...
The JUST/HEROIC rule applies... to any fight with strife specibi involved. Hence why there's a STRIFE! club. You can't die in a college club sparring session. That would never be heroic, and if it's just you must be an INCREDIBLE piece of shit.
Vriska steers clear of the club. She knows what she's done.
No god tiers.
Idea two is a lot less... structured right now. Basically, the EGS crew sit down to play a game at the same time as Egbert and company. Things change dramatically from the Homestuck we know.
Tedd - who is really good at speedrunning - manages to save the Earth by functionally captchaloguing the entire planet before more than a few meteors hit. It's safe in his sylladex the entire story.
Ellen is Elliot's alchemized ecto-clone. It shouldn't have happened. It did. She's irritated about that, but... y'know... EXISTENCE, can't be too pissy.
TF happens via alchemization. There is a LOT of human alchemization in this timeline.
John and Tedd are the heads of the "Totally Cisgendered 100% Men Yup Totally Club Also This Isn't A Club". This goes about as well as you can expect, with John becoming June less than halfway through the story and Tedd realizing their genderfluidity.
Grace is TECHNICALLY Gracesprite^2, but ain't no one gonna remember that. She's Tedd and Sarah's sprites.
The looming threats in the background - Lord English and Lord Tedd - obliterate each other before they can become more than lore and signal noise.
By all means, GIVE ME YOUR THOUGHTS ON THIS.

Fics that Rewired my Brain a Little Bit
A rec list containing the fics that changed how I think about writing, changed how I think about the world, changed how I think about myself, or just changed something unknowably but profoundly. (I make no promises as to the quality or to the fandoms since I am a trash goblin, but these are the fics that changed me.) (also fair warning, I am also an angst gremlin and so the majority of these fics will be extremely sad)
Time v.3.0 by Teyke -- Doctor Who The only fic I've ever come across that manages to convey what a Time War must have really been like.
No Such Liberty by Xparrot -- MCU, focusing on the Thor movies The best depiction of Asgard that I've ever seen, one of the best Thor & Loki relationships that I've ever seen (such gorgeously complicated sibling interactions), and this is how the MCU really should have ended.
Missing an Angel by Fantismal -- Supernatural The main fic in this series is called A History of Heaven as Understood by the Archangel Gabriel, and that is exactly what it is -- a history of Heaven, set in Supernatural canon, detailing the initial glory days and eventual decline all the way up to the events of the show.
Four Deaths at a Funeral by shiphitsthefan-- Supernatural (mostly) In which four Deaths encounter each other at the end of Season 10, when Death (SPN edition) is killed.
The Winchester Casualties by shiphitsthefan -- Supernatural The ghosts of various people killed by (or killed as a direct result of) the Winchester brother's actions encounter each other and have a bit of a bitch session. It's great.
and yet so far from death by SummerFrost -- The Witcher (netflix version) The only ghostfic that matters. This fic is, ostensibly, a love story with a happy ending -- it hurts like nothing else I've ever read, and yet it's still such a sweet thing.
ask me tomorrow by Emamel -- The Witcher (netflix version) In which Geralt and Jaskier live in opposite directions to one another -- Geralt's future is Jaskier's past.
Silver and Copper by Heronfem -- The Witcher (netflix version) I don't know how to describe this one, besides saying that it's a dark and strange and strangely lovely mystery about unraveling a curse and unearthing old wrongs and old blood, and also MIND THE FUCKING TAGS. Seriously. Don't go into this fic without reading them, but if you're up for it I promise it's worth it. (Also it's written by a friend, so give it some love.)
After Tedd Deireádh by EskelChopChop -- The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (games version) A story detailing Eskel and Yennefer after the bad ending of The Witcher 3 game. Another angsty offering here, but really just. so good.
nothing safe is worth the drive (follow you home) by SummerFrost -- Buffy the Vampire Slayer I've never even seen BVTS and this fic still changed my life -- apparently it's a fic where they actually go on the Glory-avoiding roadtrip? And it's wonderful and funny and sad and it hurts and it's full of life and it's... a roadtrip fic, and there's nothing else like it.
Send us a Blindfold, Send us a Blade by Trinary -- Transformers IDW1 The only fic I've ever seen with that deals with the end of MTMTE and the fact that there is an entirely new Cybertron just hanging out alongside the remnants of the old one, and also it's just... the nostalgia in this is like nothing I've ever seen. It really, really manages to capture the change in things over the course of the war, from the hopeful revolution of the beginning to the grinding slog of four million years later, and Starscream's place in all of it.
Mankind Should Have Been My Business by DesdemonaKaylose -- Transformers IDW1 The summary is "A list of mechanisms whom Megatron has loved", and that's really all it is, but also I cannot stop thinking about this sort-of-a-fic, sort-of-a-poem.
the only thing left out in the light by buttface -- Transformers IDW1 (specifically MTMTE/LL) You'll probably need to know MTMTE canon to understand this one, but it deals with the alternate Lost Light where Rodimus died fighting the sparkeater, and Drift's reaction to it. One of the best Drift character studies I've ever read.
the triumph of time by oriflamme -- Transformers IDW1 The end of the original run of IDW Transformers comics, redone feat. WAY more Titans, way more plot, way more mythology, the Quintessons, and poetry. One of those fics series where the only word to describe it is "epic", in every single sense of the word.
Victory Condition by astolat -- Transformers G1 Look. I've talked about this fic so much on this blog. I don't have anything new to say here except that of all the fics on this rec list, this is the one that rewrote my brain the most.

Ya'll I think I've found my favorite fanfic of this month. I discovered a brand new author courtesy of some Ted Lasso fics and started to read their other stuff. Everything is amazing because some people are just blessed with just magnetic writing talent and I burn with envy over their ability to bring words to life on page.
Anyway, one of the fics they wrote is a Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries/Doctor Who fusion fic where Phyrne is a Time Lady, the MFMM crew is bopping about in the TARDIS/her car solving time mysteries and Jack gets swept up in hijinx from 1929. And honestly, Phyrne as a Time Lady is just... GALAXY BRAIN LEVEL thinking.
So yeah, anyone familiar with those series should check it out here
They also wrote a Tedd Lasso/Leverage fusion fic and other stuff. I'm just giddy with too many good fics and not enough time to read them all right now.

Tumblr media
@clueless-rarito I can't leave replies on posts (feature hasn't worked for me for years) and I wanna talk about it so this is how I'm doing it.
In short, the general premise is "take the characters, keep their base natures, and swap their roles around- see how different circumstances change who they become (different nurture, if you will- Nurture VS Nature), and see how they respond differently.
I basically started writing this on the night of October 15th (2024), and currently I have a fic 11,000 words long and increasing, along with some extra notes and the like scattered about.
Anyway, time for the AU itself.
Tumblr media
This image outlines the current significant, dedicated swaps taking place. Some are more central, others are supplementary, and some are mostly just there for, exploration, intrigue, and their own or others sake.
Tedd & Nanase
This whole thing was actually inspired by this fanfic by @\zeemczed.
Basically, for these two's roles: Tedd was born magically (and physically) gifted, while Nanase has asthma and seemingly no magic ability at all (secretly being a seer) but is given access to transformation tech. Also, Tedd's parents are concerned about magic and want to shield him from it, while Nanase's mother vanished, leaving her with abandonment issues.
Nanase is, in canon, a dork. But she's also naturally cool as hell. Thus, remove that built in cool, add a bit of bullying perhaps and divorced parents, and voila: a massive dork who feels the need to be perceived as cool but has a bunch of issues. Also, she's in denial about being a lesbian (having even been trying to design a "perfect man" using the TF gun). Her best friend is Diane, who we'll get to later.
I guess I should also say, Tedd's dad is still magic FBI man (as is his mother), but both have likely stepped into less dangerous roles. In this universe, circumstance led Edward to give Nanase a chance with the TF tech, same as Tedd got in canon.
Meanwhile, the two of them discourage Tedd from having anything to do with magic, basically only wanting him to learn self defense and that's it. Tedd's interested in doing more than that, obviously. He's arguably had a better life in this universe, but is still Tedd: he's not terribly social (but lacks any kind of developed communication disorder), and enjoys playing games (he also started taking sword fighting lessons, but we'll get to that later). With more stable parents, and a generally more typical social adjustment so to speak, Tedd's less open and versed regarding his "weird" interests (like the idea of maybe sometimes being a girl... or being into furries). He's friends with Lucy and Diane, but we'll get further into that later.
(character relations and some plot stuff with crop up as we go on, and introduce more characters)
Ellen & Diane & Elliot & Susan
Problem number 1: how do I explain Susan and Diane's strange similarities, and how do I put not-similar characters into their roles?
Problem number 2: how do I handle Ellen, who already shares an identical nature with Elliot, and is entirely a matter of circumstance? Also, what do I do about whoever takes Ellen's spot?
Solution: swap the pair with the pair. or rather, shift them around in a circle, because I felt this made for the most interesting arrangement.
Ellen already arguably shares some similarities with Diane in canon, and we've seen a different way Ellen/Elliot could develop thanks to Ellen's second life dreams. This gives us some space to work with when putting Ellen into Diane's role. Basically, she's good willed, likes fighting and protecting others, and has a big thing for protecting her friends (Ashley and Justin; get to it later). She's not the most outgoing (like canon Elliot), and isn't want to change the status quo much, preferring comfortable and simple consistency with life (again, like base Elliot, and significantly different than canon Ellen). She focuses on protecting her friends above all else, and tends to lack introspection (in this universe, no existential crisis). Her role in the plot is to get involved later on, and to eventually learn she's distantly related to Elliot and the direct daughter of Greg the elf. I have no clue what her family situation is like.
Diane takes Elliot's place, putting her in a much more central and early role in the plot, and making for some drastic differences just by personality alone. Diane is very different than Elliot, and will respond to things different- which is fun. She's still adopted, still raised by the same parents AND still has Rhea as an adopted sister, but her family is slightly more aware of magic from early on, and quickly becomes MUCH more aware after Susan is created (but more on that shortly). She's best friends with Nanase (who she protected at school, kinda like her situation with Diane in canon) who's made her a bit more nerdy, and grew up with Catalina (who secretly has a crush on her, similar to canon Catalina with Susan but also a direct parallel to Sarah and Elliot). Like canon, she still dates plenty before the story begins, but might have a different perspective on it, not sure yet. Her most recent relationship (paralleling Nanase and Elliot in canon) was with Tedd (who she met via magic sword lessons; more later), who JUST broke up with her and basically told her "please reconsider how you engage in relationships with other people." I'm not really sure where she'll develop in the plot (she's probably the most exploratory character of the bunch, writing wise), but she's someone I'm excited for.
Then, there's... Daniel, or as he SHE is later called, Susan, taking the place of Ellen. Basically, Nanase accidentally sex-swap-zapped Diane for a month, dewitchery diamond happened, and Daniel was born (also there was a goo monster at school, but whatever). The comic repeatedly depicts an internal struggle between Susan's nature and nurture (with her nature being quite a bit closer to Diane it seems), AND the comic has given Susan Trauma; we see in comic how Ellen responds to the existential crisis that is being a clone with a different body, and as such, I felt it would make the most sense to put Susan in that situation: the same circumstances as Ellen, but a very different response. Diane's duplicate retreats inward, becomes more internal and less social. "Daniel" is also not really able to acclimate to the idea of being a man, and instead presents HERself as a woman, and takes up the name Susan (because reasons I have elsewhere, this is long enough already), while still finding a new way to live her life as someone other than Diane (thus why she dyes her hair black; we wanna strike a balance between differences, and recognizability). I'm not wholly sure where her story leads either, but it's something fun to explore.
Finally, Elliot, in Susan's place. Step 1, divorce; no cheating between his parents (the Dunkels), but circumstance just goes a bit differently and they decide to separate. Elliot of course places the blame on himself, wrongly. Step 2, VAMPIRE! I'm still figuring out lots of details, but in short, he and Tedd got conscripted in middle school to kill a vampire lady, letting him experience the terror of facing potential death much earlier than in canon AND unhealthily develop his hero complex. That's Elliot's thing: he wants to help people. That means never being a problem, never bothering people, never imposing, always self sacrificing, always pushing himself, and lots of other unhealthy habits and mindset stuff, so yeah. That's fun lol.
Raven & Greg
Doing these two next for context.
Greg is the very long lived half immortal child of Jerry. He has magical martial arts skills (it's what Ellen and Elliot inherit), and works as a high school gym teacher. I'm still figuring out some specifics, but there ya go.
Next, Raven. He's human, he's lived a fairly normal life, went to war and came back with a bad leg, a weird magic experience, and probably some trauma. Now he's combined sword fighting (a sport he prodigiously engaged in as a youth, and more later after being discharged) with his weird magic experience to create some kind of magical sword fighting practice. So far, his only successful students have been Diane (who started going thanks to an ex, also because spite), Tedd (who's happy to learn any magic without his parent's supervision), and Lucy (who we'll talk about later). He's not the most important character, but I felt it could be interesting.
To Be Continued
I have more info, I just wanna stop suffering Tumblr's text editor for a while, and do other stuff. I shall return.
Me, writing an EGS Swap AU: "Oh, what if Greg and Raven swapped? That could work, it'd line up well with other swaps, it could be funny... Sure let's do it!"
Me, actually trying to write that swap AU later: "Oh yeah. Raven wanted to be a soldier, but his narrative position prevented that... huh."

T for the alphabet prompts with Kaylor ^~^
Content warning for mild allusions to homophobia and closeting.
“Tell me a story.” Karlie’s voice was small in the dark room, she was almost asleep with her head on Taylor’s chest and the latter really wasn’t expecting her to speak.
“What kind of story?” Taylor asked gently, pausing her fingers calming movements through her wife’s hair.
“One with a happy ending. I don’t know, make something up. You’re the writer.” Karlie caught Taylor’s hand as she started to lower it to her side and intertwined their fingers. Taylor returned her free hand to Karlie’s hair and thought for a second before she spoke.
“Once upon a time,” she started pressing a kiss to Karlie’s cheek before continuing. “There was a wonderful, amazing, talented, badass of a woman and one day she met another woman and over time they came to love each other very much.”
“What was the second woman like?” Karlie asked, smiling faintly and brushing some hair away from Taylor’s cheek, catching her eyes with those green emeralds of her own.
“She’s not as important to the story.” Taylor tried, but Karlie insisted.
“She is, though.”
“Alright…Well, she was a storyteller and she would often tell her stories to all kinds of people. She would tell them to her friends and family, to her future wife and even sometimes to complete strangers. It was fun at first, lots of fun, but then some of the strangers became invasive and for some fucked up reason that no one rational will ever understand they didn’t like that the storyteller had fallen in love with a woman. Though the storyteller and her amazingly gorgeous wife were both very brave and often fought tooth and nail for what they believed in they decided it was best to hide their love in order to protect it and-“
“I don’t like this story.” Karlie interrupted and her voice sounded tight, on the verge of breaking.
“I’m sorry,” Taylor said softly and realized as she said it that she wasn’t apologizing for the story, but for this whole thing, the corner they’d painted themselves into. She was sorry this day hadn’t been exactly what they’d hoped for. That it had been a little rushed and that something else was still looming over them.
She leant down and pressed a kiss to Karlie’s lips. They were soft and pink and free of lipstick and infinitely kissable. Taylor was so glad these were the lips she’d be kissing for the rest of her life. “I’m sorry,” she said again, against Karlie’s lips, “the story gets better, I promise!”
“Okay,” Karlie nodded reluctantly, “what happens next?”
“Well one day the woman found that in order to keep their love safe she had to do something. Something unpleasant and twisted that went against many of those ideals she held so passionately. Worst of all, she was afraid that doing this one thing would hurt the woman she loved, maybe even cause irreparable damage to their relationship, but the storyteller agreed that this was the best course of action and reluctantly the woman started planning the ultimate hoax.”
“What kind of hoax?” Karlie asked, absentmindedly playing with the ring on Taylor’s finger.
“A wedding,” the singer explained, “a fake one, to a man, all this so that those entitled strangers would finally leave the woman and her true love alone.”
“Did it work?”
“For the most part it did, but that’s another story. Before the day of the hoax the woman and her storyteller decided that they wanted to get married first, for real. They were already engaged so it was simple to set up a private wedding that was all theirs.”
“So they went to The Lakes, right?” Karlie asked, smiling softly.
“They went to The Lakes,” Taylor confirmed. “A place famous for its romanticism and far away from all the strangers and the women’s secrets and there, in front of the stars and the moon and some of their closest family -chosen and otherwise- they promised to love each other forever, despite anything that they would be forced to do to keep each other safe!”
“And did they, did they love each other forever?”
“Forever and ever. Them against the greedy, unfair universe, forevermore.”
“Thank you…” Tears were running down Karlie’s cheeks now and Taylor felt herself tear up as she dried them gently with her thumb.
“For what?”
“For the story, I liked it.” Karlie held back a sob, “D-do you p-romise that’s how it’ll end?”
“I do,” Taylor said softly, repeating the words she’d said earlier that night, pressing a new kiss to her wife’s lips.
Thanks for the prompt, anon, really hope you liked it! ☺️

after tedd deireádh...... i started crying after yens talk with triss and then cried the whole way through, including during the sex scenes. how dare you do this to me by recommending this fic. it hits too close to home.
FUCKING SAME ANON, i get to “Lambert...was caught in the cold” and start sniffling and i don’t stop crying until the very end. and oh my god the sex scenes
He tries to remember the way that Geralt looked at her. The light that glowed through him when she walked by, even when she was hurling commands or barely veiled insults.
Eskel can’t be Geralt. But like the fencing student copying his teacher’s movements until they become his own, Eskel can map Geralt’s love. This is how he looked at her—Eskel lets some mimicry of that into his eyes. This is how Geralt turned toward her, on that night ages and worlds ago in Kaer Morhen—Eskel lowers his body onto her body, cups the face with the ivory skin and the tender smile as if she has been his meaning all along. He reaches for the light that shone through Geralt at the sight of her and kisses her as if it’s his, too.
the entire world is buried in ice and it’s geralt who’s the face of this loss too big to even begin to process, yen and eskel orbiting each other around the enormity of one man’s absence, their entire relationship before this has been mediated by geralt and now there is no geralt and there is no anything else either,
and at first they’re just two desperately lonely and grieving people seeking comfort in the only place they can and then it’s not that anymore, it’s love, because even in the face of the apocalypse people will care for each other, they have to care for each other, there is nothing else, this is so important to me

Fic Rec Friday 2022 - [1/52]
This is something I’ve been wanting to do this year, because I used to really enjoy being able to pass along some love to other authors and hopefully drive some traffic towards their work.
Here’s how it works: Every week I’m going to post 1-2 different fic recs, and I hope to see others join in and do the same for their favorite fics too. There’s no pressure to join in on the fun(except for me, because I’m making this a weekly thing.) It’s just a chance to revisit some old favorites, perhaps leave some comments, and pass along the love.
So for the first rec of the year, I decided to go with what is quite possibly my favorite fic that I’ve ever read. And I mean that with complete seriousness.
After Tedd Deireádh by @eskelchopchop
Based on the canon of the witcher books/games
Contains: Major Character Death, Suicide, and an ambiguous ending.
Main Ship: Yennefer/Eskel with past Geralt/Yennefer.
Background Ships: Lambert/Keira Metz, Dandelion/Priscilla.
Summary:
(Post-Witcher 3-- the bad ending, but even worse)
Ciri has failed, Geralt is dead, and the White Frost has come. While living through the earth’s final days, Yennefer discovers that someone else has survived: the witcher Eskel. To their mutual surprise, they find out that the end of the world may not mean the end.
Complete, and somehow not the bleak story I thought I was writing!
Why You Should Read It:
This is a fic that I come back to often. And to be clear, when I say often I mean it in this case. I think I’ve read this fic at least once a month every month since I first found it. To say that this one has stuck with me is a bit of an understatement.
This fic is heavy. It’s primarily a story about grief, with the two characters suffering what is both an emotional and a literal end of the world at the same time.
This takes place after the Witcher 3′s bad end, as stated in the summary. Ciri and Geralt are both lost, and the people who loved them need to find a way to keep on living despite their loss. The White Frost has come, so they must find a way to scrape by even though there’s not much left of a world to save.
It’s a hard read, I’ll admit to that. But it’s beautiful and poignant, and one which I think you should experience for yourself.

First Sentences Meme
Took me a little while to get around to this, but it looks like fun! Thanks for the tag, @ghostinthelibrarywrites and @queenmevesknickers!
List the first lines of your last 20 stories (if you have less than 20, just list them all). See if there are any patterns. Choose your favorite opening line. Then tag 10 of your favorite authors!
In chronological order from oldest fic to current WIPs:
1. The rope is weathered, fraying in places from too many nights on the saddle. -The One with the Rope
2. Eskel is chopping firewood when she calls. -After Tedd Deireádh
3. “That wish of yours,” Yennefer whispers. “I heard what you wished for.” -she gathers you
4. Kaer Morhen. Mountains like geriatric dragons’ teeth, winters like an ice giant’s ass, marshes full of foglets, forests full of wolves, and caves full of children’s bones. -A Standing Agreement
5. Every night, Javier goes into the nursery and tries to think of bedtime stories. -"Ghost Stories" (original fic)
6. Three years since they got the place, and Eskel still can’t get over the sight of Geralt’s hair in the sunlight. -The Color of the Wheat Fields
7. Eskel hears Geralt first. -With Regards from Master Darkheart
8. Every morning that he wakes up to her, he thinks he's still dreaming. -where the grapevines grow
9. "They interviewed the werewolf's wife on the Today Show." -unnamed & unfinished original fic
10. “Yen,” Geralt says, “might be time to slow down.” -veritas
11. Call me Dandelion. -A Happy Ending, If You Can Bear It
12. Geralt hears the cry about a mile off, a high-pitched yelp like an animal in pain. -Yearlings
13. When yet another knock sounds at the manor’s door, Dak nearly pulls out their beard in frustration. -Bread, Salt, and Wine
14. Lady Dassene Chorbenne examined her bust in the fitting room mirror for the fourth time. -When We Killed Monsters
15. YOUNG YENNEFER “Tirlich-tirlich, call my love to me.” -golem magic
16. “Must you move like that?” -A Splinter in Time
17. Eskel knew he hadn’t dressed his Friday night best, especially for New York. -seeeecret Eskel Big Bang modern AU fic
18. After the first shock, dying feels like the morning of a bad hangover: a slow re-assembly of sense as you figure out where you are, how you got here, and how to make the headache stop. -seeeecret Fisstech exchange fic
Patterns. Hm. I see most of these sentences trying to set up a character focus and a setting from the beginning: here's a character, here's where they are / their situation. A lot of my stories begin with the entrance of a character or at the beginning of an important conversation, not so much in the middle of action or a conversation. Also, my Yenralt fics are much more likely to start with dialogue for some reason.
Favorite one? Uhhhh I dunno. Possibly Wheat Fields for the instant feels, possibly the original fic that opens with the werewolf one-liner because that one line stuck in my brain so deeply, I had to write a story for it.
Erf, I can't remember who's gone already. Extending a possibly redundant invitation to @stillmadaboutpetra, @fayet, @octinary, @witchertrashbag, @lohrendrell, and anyone else who wants to take a motorcycle tour of their story beginnings!

Chapter Seven: It’s a Trap!
Summary: The town of Hawkins has been turned upside down with the news that Will Byers has suddenly gone missing. Teddi Larsson and Billy Hargrove are gonna get to the bottom of things. Season one AU.
Pairing: Billy Hargrove/OFC
A/N: Only one chapter to go! I’ve really enjoyed writing this fic! Would you all be interested in continuing with season two? I’d definitely be drifting from canon, but that’s what makes AU fics fun, isn’t it?
Teddi was pacing the length of Hopper’s office while she and Billy waited for him to return. Billy had calmed down a little. Now he was watching his girlfriend mutter to herself angrily about something. “...You okay there, Ted?” he asked finally.
“I punched Troy Walsh in the nose.” she blurted out.
Billy raised his eyebrows, speechless for a moment before letting out a loud laugh. “What?”
“When I found El, Troy had Mike, Dustin and Max out by the quarry and he had a knife to Dustin’s friggin’ throat. So I punched him. And El broke his arm. You know she can actually move things with her mind? It’s amazing. She’s amazing-”
“Wait,” Billy held his hands up. “That little fucker had a knife? And you didn’t throw him into the quarry?”
“I was too busy stopping Mike from jumping in-”
“What?!”
“It’s a long story!” Teddi huffed. She plopped down in the seat next to Billy. “They’re fine now. I sent them back to Mike’s and I was supposed to get you so we can go find Lucas-”
“Find Lucas? Where the hell did he go? Who let him run off?”
Teddi rolled her eyes. “If I knew where he went we wouldn’t need to find him. And you’re one to talk about running off. You have a lot of explaining to do, buddy. Is that your handy work all over Steve’s face?”
Billy crossed his arms, not meeting Teddi’s eyes. “That was Johnathan.” he muttered.
Teddi couldn’t help but laugh. “Johnathan did that to Steve?”
“He’s freakishly strong like you are. Steve called and said he’d gone over to Nancy’s last night and he saw her and Johnathan sitting on her bed. So I figured I’d try and explain as best as I could so he wouldn’t have a bitch fit, but Tommy got him all worked up and they decided they were gonna graffiti the Hawk. Nancy saw it when her and Johnathan were on the way to meet me and you and they got into a fight.” he explained.
“Wow…” Teddi said quietly. “A telepathic preteen opens a portal to another dimension and the town really goes to shit, huh?” Billy let out a chuckle. “Do you agree with me that now we should finally tell Hopper?” she asked, looking over at him.
“Tell me what?” the two teens turned to look at Hopper who was standing in the doorway of his office. He walked in, shutting the door behind him and sitting at his desk. The three of them were quiet as Hopper fixed a stern look in their direction. The two had been on the receiving end of that look more times than they could count. He slapped a photo down onto his desk, sliding it forward. It was the photo Johnathan had taken of Barb. “You two know anything about this?”
Teddi and Billy were silent for a moment. Teddi looked over at Billy, who only sunk down in his seat. She let out a heavy sigh.  There was no way they could hide this from him anymore. “It’s the Demogorgon. It’s what took Will and Barb.” she explained.
The look on Hopper’s face told her that Johnathan and Nancy had said something similar. “And it lives out in the woods?” he asked. Teddi and Billy both nodded. “So, you two wouldn’t happen to know why Johnathan and Nancy have an arsenal in his trunk? The four of you wouldn’t be planning on going after this thing? Again?” the two teens remained silent. Hopper sighed loudly. “Are you both insane? This...thing, whatever the hell it is, could have killed you. Do you realize that?” his expression softened. “You aren’t doing this on your own anymore. Got it? Whatever it is that happened to Barb and Will, I’m not letting the same thing happen to either of you.”
“Hop, Will’s alive,” Teddi argued. “We have to go after it! We know where the gate is now, El can help-”
“El? Who the hell is El?” Hop asked, looking between the two of them.
“Some girl Wheeler found out in the woods. She’s got super powers.” Billy explained. He almost sounded bored with the situation.
Hopper looked between the two of them, surprisingly accepting of what they were telling him. “...If I hadn’t seen some of the weird shit I’ve seen these last few days, I’d be drug testing the two of you right now to make sure you’re not on magic mushrooms again,” Billy laughed at the memory, clearing his throat when Hopper shot him a stern look. “Is there anything else you two wanna tell me?”
Teddi briefly considered telling him about Troy Walsh. But when she considered everything else happening, some asshole kid was the least of her worries. Besides, it seemed like Troy was going to beat her to the punch. There was a loud argument that had broken out outside of Hopper’s office. The three could hear Callahan arguing with a woman, telling her that she needed to calm down. Hopper sighed loudly, heading back out to the station with Teddi and Billy following close behind.
Troy Walsh was there with his mother. His nose was still covered in dried up blood and his arm was now in a sling. When he saw Teddi, he pointed an accusing finger in her direction. “She did it! She punched me in the nose!” he yelled.
Everyone turned to look at Teddi in shock. “You did what?” Hopper asked incredulously.
“He...it was self defense!” Teddi argued.
“He’s a little boy!” Troy’s mother argued, pulling her son protectively to her chest.
“Yeah,” Troy sniffed. “I didn’t do anything to her! Her and her little freak buddies ganged up on me out at the quarry!”
Teddi saw red. She stomped forward, shoving past Hopper and headed right for Troy. “You little shit stain! You were going to stab Dustin!” she lunged forward, her hands reaching out for Troy’s neck. Billy wrapped his arms around Teddi’s middle, lifting her off the ground and pulling her away from Troy as shouting erupted.
“Jesus, Teddi!” Hopper scolded, stepping out in front of Billy with his arms outstretched. “The hell has gotten into you? He’s a kid!”
Teddi squirmed in Billy’s grip. “He has a knife! He was gonna make Mike jump into the quarry and he was gonna hurt Dustin!” Powell didn’t waste any time. He took a hold of Troy’s arm, pulling him from his mother as Callahan searched his pockets.
He held up the switchblade with a surprised expression. “Looks like she might be onto something, chief.”
Hopper ran a tired hand over his face. “Okay, you five are coming with me,” he said, motioning to Tedd, Billy, Johnathan, Nancy and Joyce. “Powell, handle Walsh, will you? I gotta go handle...all this.”
“Wait a second,” Troy’s mother demanded. “My son’s arm is broken! There has to be something you can do!” she argued.
“Yeah! Get that little freak with the shaved head! She can do stuff with her mind, I swear! She’s the one that broke my arm!”
Hopper turned to look at Teddi and Billy. “El?” they nodded. “Right, don’t worry ma’am. We’re gonna handle everything. You just worry about that little delinquent of yours not going to juvie, huh? Let’s go, guys.” Joyce, Johnathan and Nancy all filed out behind Hopper. Troy stuck his tongue out at Teddi, who kicked her legs wildly at him as Billy carried her past him.
They all piled into Johnathan’s car. Teddi, Nancy, Johnathan and Billy were all squished in the backseat. Hopper started the car, he and Joyce turned back to look at them. “Alright, where are the kids now?”
“I told them to wait for me at Mike’s,” Teddi said. “We’re supposed to go look for Lucas. Apparently he decided to go rogue this morning.” she mumbled.
“Isn’t it dangerous out there? Why would he go alone?” Joyce asked.
“The Demogorgon only comes out at night,” Billy said, shifting uncomfortably when everyone turned to look at him. “I mean, it seems that way at least...it’s nocturnal, or whatever.”
Hopper nodded. “Alright, so it comes out at night, it’s attracted to blood and it doesn’t like fire...sounds like my mother in law.” Billy was the only one that laughed. Hopper rolled his eyes, driving off in the direction of the Wheeler’s place. The four teens filled him and Joyce in on as much as they knew about El, the Upside Down and the Demogorgon. Hopper and Joyce told them they’d figured out the government was in on some sort of cover up plot, and that the body they had found in the quarry wasn’t will.
“I told you.” Teddi said triumphantly, grinning over at Billy.
Billy rolled his eyes, opening his mouth to argue. There was a loud whirring coming from above. Billy rolled down his window and stuck his head out to see what was causing the sound. “Uh, Hop? It’s lookin’ like we’re gonna have a problem.” he said, pointing up to the helicopter above them.
Hopper stomped down on the breaks. Everyone lurched forward, the group groaning and complaining at Hopper. He didn’t listen. He shut the car off, getting out and hurrying off. The teens followed after him and Joyce tried her best to try and call them back to the car. There were about four black sedans parked out in front of Mike’s house. Men in suits were moving back and forth between the sedans and the house, loading boxes of what looked like Mike’s belongings.
“I have to go home!” Nancy gasped. Hopper stopped her from running off. “My parents are down there! I have to make sure they’re okay!” she argued.
Billy and Teddi looked up to see the helicopter slowly circling the area behind the Wheeler’s house. “I don’t think they’re after your parents,” Teddi said, pointing to the helicopter. “I think they’re looking for Mike.”
“She’s right,” Hopper agreed. “We still have time. We can’t let them know any of us are mixed up in all of this. Everybody get back in the car.” he turned, ushering the four teens back to the car.
Billy let out an annoyed huff, reaching down and rubbing at his leg. “Those kids are so dead when we find them. Like the Demogorgon wasn’t enough, now we have the man on our ass.”
“Where would they be?” Hopper asked. “There’s gotta be somewhere they’d be hiding.” he looked at Nancy. Her eyes went wide as she tried to think of where Mike and his friends might be. Billy was trying to think himself, coming up empty when he realized he didn’t know much about Max’s hangout spots aside from the arcade.
“Is there anywhere they might be? Anywhere your parents might not know about?” Joyce asked, looking between the two of them. Neither had an answer.
All eyes went to Teddi. “...What? I don’t know everything they’re always up to,” she argued. That was a lie. She let out a sigh. “I mean...I know a few places they might be. But we don’t have time to check them all.”
“I have an idea,” Johnathan offered. “I don’t know where they’ll be, but I think I know how to ask them where they are,”
They were off to the Byers’ house. “Will has a walkie talkie in his room somewhere. We can call Mike. They always keep them close by.” Johnathan explained as they headed inside. Nancy, Teddi and Billy all came to a stop when they entered the living room. It was like a tornado had hit. The room was an absolute mess. A hole had been hacked into one of the walls and covered with some wooden planks. Someone had painted the alphabet in thick, black letters above the couch, and there were Christmas like strung up across the ceiling and the walls.
“Whoa...Joyce, the hell happened in here?” Billy asked, turning in a circle as the three of them looked around. Joyce ignored the question. She, Hopper and Johnathan all quickly hurried down the hall and into Will’s room. Nancy, Teddi and Billy all shared a look before following them.
It didn’t take Joyce long to find the walkie talkie. Everyone crowded into Will’s room. Billy plopped down onto his bed, rubbing at his leg with a painful groan while Joyce fussed over him and asked if he was alright. Nancy turned the walkie talkie nervously in her hands a few times before attempting to call Mike.
There was no answer. It felt like everyone was holding their breath as they waited to see if Nancy could get through to her brother. “...Maybe they don’t have a walkie,” Billy offered. “You want me to try?”
Johnathan laughed. “Yeah, like they wouldn’t be too scared to answer you,” Billy let out a grumble, shooting a dirty look in Johnathan’s direction. “Let Teddi try. She’s been in on this with them. She’s the only one they know won’t rat them out.”
“Technically speaking I am ratting them out,” she argued. Hopper shot her a look, taking the walkie from Nancy and handing it to Teddi. “...I’m just saying,” she let out a sigh. “Mike? El? Are you guys there? It’s me, Teddi. We saw the creepy government guys at Mike’s. Hopper’s here. We can help. I promise.” There was another long stretch of silence. Maybe Billy was right. Maybe they didn’t have a walkie with them.
There was a bit of static from the walkie. “I copy. It’s Mike. I’m here, we’re all here.”
Hopper took the walkie from Teddi. “Mike, it’s Hopper. Where are you? I’m coming to get you out of there.” they were at the junkyard. “Junkyard?” Hopper asked, looking back at the teens.
“It’s out by the train tracks,” Billy said. “We used to hide in the bus and smok-...forget it. I can show you how to get there.” he got up, grunting a little when he stood on his leg. Joyce and Teddi both reached out for him.
“Honey, you need to sit down,” Joyce said softly. “I’m gonna go get the first aid kit.” she got up, hurrying off down the hall.
“I’m gonna go by myself,” Hopper said to Billy. “You sit tight here, I’ll get the kids. I don’t want any of you leaving, got it? We need to stick together.” the four teens nodded. Hopper gave them one last look before following after Joyce.
Teddi turned to Billy with a worried look. “Can I see?” Billy nodded, leaning back on his elbows and groaning. Teddi and Nancy kneeled down in front of Billy. Nancy held his ankle gingerly as Teddi rolled his jeans up. She sucked in air when she saw the five large cuts. His stitches weren’t visible anymore. It was like somehow they had healed overnight, but now five black, vein like scars ran up his leg.
Teddi was speechless. She and Nancy shared a look, neither of them knowing what to say. Teddi reached out carefully, softly running her finger down one of the scars that ran directly down his shin. “...Does it hurt?” she asked, looking up at him.
Billy shook his head. “Not that. It hurts inside. Like my skins on fire.”
“...Is that normal?” Nancy asked Teddi.
She shook her head. “No, but then nothing around here is normal anymore,” she sighed. She looked at Billy’s leg helplessly. The skin around the scars was beginning to turn a dull grey color. Like the scars were literally sucking the life out of him. “Billy, I really think we need to take you to a doctor. This is-”
Billy slammed his fist down onto the bed beside him, fixing a snarl in Teddi’s direction. “I said no fucking doctors!” he growled out. Teddi and Nancy both jumped. Johnathan shifted nervously, inching his way towards the girls. Teddi’s eyes met with Billy’s, and she was shocked to see pure hatred there.
Johnathan gently touched Teddi’s shouder. “Come on, let’s leave him alone for a minute, huh?” he suggested quietly. He and Nancy both helped Teddi stand. She couldn’t look away from Billy. Her heart was hammering in her chest. Something was very, very wrong. Nancy led Teddi outside and to the porch. They sat on the porch swing, neither of them saying anything.
“...Does he usually snap at you like that?” Nancy finally asked.
Teddi pulled her knees up to her chest and shook her head. “Never. I mean, he’s always been sort of an asshole, but that…” she let out a shaky breath. “All of this has me really scared, Nance.” She confessed.
“Me too. But it’s gonna be okay, Teddi. Billy is gonna get better, and we’re gonna find Will and Barb and hopefully everything will go back to normal.” they both knew that Nancy was trying to convince herself of that as well. There was no guarantee that things would have a happy ending.
“...Are you gonna break up with Steve?” Teddi asked.
Nancy looked off, laughing a little like she had already forgotten about that afternoon. “I don’t know...I don’t know what to do anymore. I know that wasn’t like him, but…”
“But you like Johnathan,” Teddi finished for her. Nancy flashed her a sheepish smile. “I know that we aren’t super close, but can I give you some advice?” Nancy nodded, turning towards Teddi. “Steve has no idea that any of this is happening. He doesn’t know there’s a monster in the woods, or about the Upside Down. You went to Johnathan and asked him to be your partner in all of this. I think that says a lot. Like, with me and Billy...he’s the first person I go to with anything. Even if I know he’ll look at me like I’m insane. He always listens and he always helps.”
“That’s ‘cause I know you’d do the same for me,” the two girls jumped at the sound of Billy’s voice. He looked better already. Normal. He shifted nervously in the doorway. “...You mind if I talk to her for a sec, Nance?” Nancy looked over at Teddi who nodded before she headed inside. Billy didn’t miss the glare she shot in his direction before she disappeared. Billy walked over to Teddi, limping a bit, and sat down on the swing next to her. He kicked his foot just a little, making the seat swing. “...We should get one of these.”
Teddi raised an eyebrow. “A porch swing?”
“Yeah. When we figure out where we wanna go…” Billy let out a sigh. “Look, Ted...I’m sorry about what happened…”
“What did happen?”
Billy ran a hand over his face. He looked like he hadn’t slept in a week. “I don’t know. I feel like I feel fine most of the time, and then…” Teddi thought back to the look of hatred he had given her. “It hurts. Like I’m burning from the inside out and there’s something trying to get out of me. And then I just get angry.”
Teddi didn’t know what to say. She was scared for him. Even if she could convince him to see a doctor, how could they help? She took his hand in hers, squeezing it a little. “It’s all gonna be fine,” she said, repeating Nancy’s lie. “We’ll figure it out...but if you snap at me like that again I’m kicking you in the balls.”
Billy laughed, putting his arm around her. “Deal.”
It was dark when Hopper’s Blazer finally pulled up in front of the Byers’ house. Teddi and Billy got up from the porch swing quickly as the kids filed out of the car. Joyce, Nancy and Johnathan joined them on the porch. Nancy ran forward to wrap Mike in a hug he definitely hadn’t been expecting. Max hugged Billy tightly. He patted her back awkwardly, trying to crack a joke with her to break the tension.
El watched her two friends, hugging their siblings, with a curious expression. Her eyes met Teddi’s, who was standing on the porch, offering her a soft smile and a sort of awkward wave. El made her way over to the blonde, hugging her tightly.
Billy watched the two girls, wrapping an arm around Max’s shoulder. Maybe he was being a dick about the El situation. Teddi didn’t have someone like he had Max. She was a pain in the ass, and she was constantly getting him into trouble, but she was his family. His sister. Teddi was the kind of girl that wanted to take care of everyone around her. Was it really so wrong for him to let her take care of El?
Teddi let out a small laugh, returning the hug fiercely. “You okay, Ellie Bean?”
El nodded, smiling softly at her. “Safe.”
“I’ll always keep you safe. I promise.” she ran a hand over El’s hair. Teddi caught the way that Hopper was watching them. He looked like Billy. Like he disapproved of Teddi getting so close. She didn’t care.
Hopper ushered everyone back inside, and Mike and the party gave Hop, Joyce, Nancy and Johnathan a crash course in the Upside Down. Mike explained how El could make contact with Will, sort of like a long distance phone call. El agreed to try again with one of the walkies to see if she could make contact with Will or Barb. If they could reach either of them then maybe it could help them in their rescue mission.
They crowded around El at the dinner table and watched as El tried to make contact. Not a lot happened. Eleven stared down at the walkie talkie, focusing all of her energy on it. The walkie came to life, crackling and letting out some static. Joyce sucked in a breath next to Teddi. There was a loud whir through the house. The lights flickered, and there was a loud pop before they cut out.
El sat up, her expression falling into a sad frown as the lights came back on. “...I’m sorry. I can’t reach them.” her eyes were pooling with tears. Billy reached over, placing a comforting hand on her shoulder. El looked up at him, sniffing.
“Don’t worry about it, kid. We’ll figure something else out,” he reassured her. El smiled thinly at him, pushing herself away from the table and heading for the bathroom. Teddi sighed. “So...what now? Does she need a bigger radio again? What about the one at your school?”
Mike shook his head. “She’s tired. We have to give her time to rest-”
“We don’t have time. We have people looking for her. We don’t know how much longer Will and Barb can survive...wherever it is they are.” Hopper argued.
“We don’t know what’ll happen to her if we force her to push herself,” Teddi argued. “Her nose bleeds every time she uses her powers. It’s wearing on her. I’m not gonna let her hurt herself because you can’t be patient.” she firmly crossed her arms, glaring up at Hopper.
“Teddi,” he sighed. “I know that you wanna help her. I get it. But-”
“I can call them in the pool.” it was El. The group turned to face her. Her eyes were a little red, Teddi guessed she’d been crying in the bathroom.
“Pool? Finally, something we can help with.” Billy grinned, throwing his arm around Teddi.
Hopper rolled his eyes. “Not that kind of pool, Billy. It’s a deprivation tank. I saw one in that lab out in the woods. How in the hell are we supposed to make one of those?”
Dustin called their science teacher. They drove to the middle school, Hopper breaking them up into teams and giving them all jobs. Teddi and Billy would help Dustin and Lucas help set up the pool. Which mostly meant Teddi and Lucas stood by, arms crossed over their chests as they watched Billy and Dustin screaming at each other from across the small pool they’d borrowed from Joyce.
“You’re not doing it right, Henderson! Pull it!”
“I am pulling it! I thought you were supposed to be strong!”
After about twenty minutes and Billy deciding he was going to give Dustin the silent treatment, Lucas and Teddi managed to set the pool up without much of an issue. Billy walked off to pout on the bleachers. Once the pool was ready for El, the gang crowded around her, just like they had at they Byers’ and waited. Teddi and Joyce were knelt down next to her, arms ready to reach out to El if anything went wrong.
The lights flickered again. The whole gym sounded like it was groaning under the weight of El’s powers. It echoed through the large room, making goosebumps appear on Teddi’s arms. Suddenly it was quiet. Like somehow they were in the tank with her. Teddi wondered what El saw when she called out to the Upside Down. Or if she saw anything at all.
El called out for Barb. Nancy let out a small gasp. The lights flickered again. El started breathing heavily, her body looked like it was trying to fight against something. “Is she okay? Is Barb okay?” Nancy asked.
El was crying. Thrashing. Teddi and Joyce reached out, grabbing on to El’s hands as she started chanting the word gone, her cries getting more and more urgent. Teddi pulled El over towards her, her hands wrapping around El’s tiny hand. She was surprised when Billy placed a hand over her own, anchoring El close to them as they tried to quiet her. “El? Can you hear me? It’s okay. We’re here. I’m gonna keep you safe, remember? We all will. We’re all right here with you.” Teddi assured her.
Eventually El stilled again. Joyce, Teddi and Billy kept their hold on her as she continued on. “Castle Byers…” she said quietly. “Will…”
Everyone let out a breath at once at the sound of El saying Will’s name. Joyce’s eyes were filled with tears as she gripped onto El’s hand like her life depended on it, telling her to let Will know they were going to save him. El repeated each message quietly, her voice becoming more desperate by the second. Teddi could just briefly hear Will’s voice over the walkie that was sitting nearby as he answered El. El was thrashing again, screaming Will’s name. The lights in the gym flashed wildly before there was a loud pop and the room went dark.
El screamed, sitting up with a loud gasp. The lights came back on. Billy wrapped his arm around her, pulling her to the edge of the pool to try and stop her thrashing. “It’s okay, kid. I got you. You’re okay.” he mumbled. El cried into his chest, her tiny hands clutching onto him like she would be dragged away if she let go.
Teddi slid over to them, reaching out and wiping the blood from El’s nose. Hopper was up and putting his coat back on, Joyce was close behind him. “You did so good, El. We know where Will is. You did it. We can save him.” Teddi ran her hand over El’s hair, smiling down at her.
Max hurried over with a large beach towel. Billy helped El stand before Max wrapped the towel around her. Billy placed a hand on her back, leading her over to the bleachers where the boys were waiting. He kneeled down in front of her. “You doin’ okay?” he asked. El nodded, but just barely. He looked back at Teddi. “You wanna go get her a Coke or something? She’s looking a little pale.”
“Jeez, you guys take this lifeguard thing seriously, huh?” Mike asked. Billy and Teddi both shot him similar, unimpressed looks.
“I’ll be right back,” Teddi muttered, hurrying out of the gym and into the halls of the middle school. She didn’t make it very far before she ran into Nancy and Johnathan. They were sitting on the floor beside each other, the both of them going quiet when they saw Teddi approaching. “...Am I interrupting something?” she asked.
“No.” Johnathan said quickly.
“Yes,” Nancy argued. She stood, glaring down at Johnathan. “Teddi, Hopper and Joyce are headed right into a trap. We can’t just sit here and do nothing. They’ll get killed. And Will won’t be far behind.”
“Wait,” Teddi held up her hands. “They’re going through the gate? Alone?” she asked. Johnathan sighed and nodded. “And you just let them?”
Johnathan let out a huff. “Have you ever tried to get Hopper to do something he doesn’t want to do? I don’t exactly have much sway here, Teddi.” he argued.
Teddi shook her head. “This is insane, Johnathan! They don’t know how to stop that thing.”
“Exactly! Listen, I have a plan. We can kill the Demogorgon. But I need your help. And Billy. The kids can stay here and let El rest. It’ll be safe here. No one will find them. But we need to go. Now.”
Teddi didn’t need to think it over. She nodded. “Okay. Okay, I’ll go get Billy.”
“Meet us at the Byers’...bring more hairspray.” Nancy took Johnathan by the hand and pulled him off towards the exit. Teddi rushed down the hall to one of the vending machines. She pushed the button repeatedly, praying for the machine to move faster. Once it dropped the can of soda she was down the hall and back into the gym in record time.
“Billy, we need to leave. Mike, I’m leaving you in charge, okay? None of you are leaving this gym. No matter what happens. Got it? El needs to rest. We’ll handle everything else,” she pressed the can of soda into El’s hands. “We’ll be back soon. This is all gonna be over soon.” she assured her.
Billy was blinking wildly. “Wait, wait, wait. Teddi, what the hell are you talking about? Where the hell are we going? What’s gonna be over soon?”
Teddi rolled her eyes, like it was the most obvious thing in the world. “We’re going to kill a Demogorgon.”

Using this as a warm up to get fic writing again. Tedd's notepad - a swarm of half-thought-out comments, ideas, to do lists, and noodle incidents.

I didn’t have a specific prompt. I’ve actually sent in some before. But if you really want to add to the list - how about Taylor trying to plan her first vegan/vegetarian ( I’m pretty sure karlie eats some meat and cheese but she seems to prefer that way of eating) and stressing and trying to make it perfect but also trying to hide from Karlie how much she’s stressing to make sure there’s good options for her and the rest of their guests.
This is roughly a million years late for the holiday (or may as well be) and full of (vegan) cheese, but I hope you enjoy anyway! This is probably also riddled with mistakes because I’m too lazy to edit…Thank you to anon for this prompt and any others they’ve sent me! More prompt fills are coming soon!
This is set around thanksgiving 2014, so they’ve been dating for roughly a year. Oh and DC Comics owns Posion Ivy
Tw for, like extremely mild allusions to anxiety…?
Happy belated thanksgiving to anyone who celebrates!! 🥰🥰
“Are you okay?” Karlie’s voice floats towards her from what she would guess is the approximate direction of the door. It’s so dark in the room that it’s honestly a little disorienting and Taylor can’t remember her girlfriend even having gotten out of the bed.
“Yeah, of course I’m okay, why wouldn’t I be?” She answers a little too loudly and hopes Karlie doesn’t catch on to the slight stress in her tone.
“I’m sorry if I woke you up,” Karlie says softly, “I was trying to be quiet but-“
“Don’t worry, you didn’t.” Taylor assures her before going back to the frenetic scrolling she’s been doing for the past few hours.
Is that too spicy? Does she like spicy food? How do I not know this?
The mattress dips a little as Karlie lies back down. “Wait,” she says and though Taylor can’t really see her she can almost hear her eyebrows furrowing in concern, “have you been on your phone ever since we went to bed? What are you doing on there, reading scandalous fanfiction?” She giggles at her own joke and the sound actually calms Taylor down a bit, fills her stomach with warm familiarity.
“You’re such a nerd!” She teases as she switches to another of the countless tabs currently open on her phone.
“I am?” Karlie questions the words dripping with mock-offense, you’re the one who’s been recommending me Poison Ivy fics since the week we meet!”
“I don’t see how that is relevant to this conversation?” Taylor mumbles, before trying to focus her attention on the very involved recipe in front of her.
“Okay, but seriously, are you writing something?”
Do I have to make this butter?
“Tay?”
What is even going on in this one? Cauliflower fried chicken, how the hell is chicken vegan?
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen you this focused on anything in my life and that’s saying something! You’re not googling yourself again, are you? You know what Tree said about that and you should really get some sleep!”
How many different brands of vegan cheeses are there?
“Hellooo, space cadet, you with me?” That’s when Taylor finally registers that her girlfriend is still talking and she opens her mouth to respond but doesn’t get a chance before Karlie has snatched the phone from her.
“Hey!!”
“Are you actually reading something dirty?”
Taylor finds herself reaching for the phone, but Karlie is already looking down and with the light from the screen illuminating her face Taylor can actually see her eyebrows knit together this time.
“Aww baby, you’re looking up thanksgiving stuff? It’s not for another three weeks.”
“I know,” Taylor says sheepishly, thankful for the dark as her face reddens, “I just like being… prepared!”
“Taylor, you’re an amazing cook, whatever you decide to make will be incredible!” Karlie scrolls a little and looks back up, her eyes filled with something that melts Taylor’s heart in her chest and when she speaks the singer realizes it’s gratitude or maybe surprise. “These are all vegan stuff!”
“Uh-hmm,” Taylor confirms reluctantly.
“Am I the reason you’re up at half past three in the morning stressing over this?” Karlie reaches out to run a comforting hand through Taylor’s hair. “I don’t want you to worry about that, you know I’ll eat whatever you offer me, I’m not picky and I want the rest of your family to enjoy the food too!”
“I know, but mom is bringing most of their stuff anyway and I know you prefer to have options…” She pauses briefly as she realizes she’s speaking a little too quickly, takes a breath. “It’s just, I don’t have that much experience with vegan holiday stuff and I don’t wanna mess anything up!”
“You’re not going to and if you do you do, it’s not the end of the world!” Her words sound so comforting Taylor wants to believe them, but she’s already in too deep in this anxiety spiral to really take anything in.
“This is our first thanksgiving together, Karls,” She insists, trying not to sound as defeated as she feels. “I just want things to be…”
“Perfect?” Karlie finishes and the blonde gives her a small nod, making sure the hand that’s now resting on Taylor’s cheek can feel the movement in the dark.
Karlie processes what she’s saying for a second before responding. “It will be perfect as long as we’re spending the day together. I don’t want you to stress yourself out, if you insist on giving me vegan options, I’ll help make them, okay?”
“But I promised I’d cook everything mom isn’t bringing and that includes your stuff!”
“Hey, this is supposed to be our first thanksgiving together so let’s actually spend it together without one of us agonizing the day away in the kitchen. If you’ll let me I’d love to help, I have lots of great recipes!”
Taylor can’t help, but smile now, “Okay,” she agrees, “we’ll do it together!”
Karlie presses a soft kiss to Taylor’s shoulder. “Together,” she mumbles into the warm skin, “together we can do anything!” Taylor isn’t sure if it’s the comfort of Karlie’s lips on her or the anxiety finally letting up and being replaced by exhaustion, but this time she believes it.
They are going to spend the first of many holidays together and together they’re unstoppable.

I would love a Kaylor fic for L on the alphabet prompts! So glad to see you’re writing again!
Hi there @stillsearchingforsomething! 👋🏻 I’m so glad you like my writing, I am so excited to get back to it! This is really short, but I hope you like it! 💖💖
“Loving you is easy. Living with you takes some getting used to.” The words do not sound as romantic out of her mouth as they did in Karlie’s head, but to be fair it’s 2AM and she’s exhausted. They’ve officially lived together for exactly two weeks and this is the third time this week alone.
“I’m really sorry, baby!” Taylor says and she sounds genuinely distraught to have disturbed her girlfriend’s slumber, but Karlie just smiles and presses a kiss to the side of the blonde’s head. “I’m messing with you…Mostly, come back to bed soon, Tay…” she mumbles into Taylor’s hair and the singer turns to steal a proper kiss, “I promise.” She says against Karlie’s lips.
Then she turns back to her work and continues playing a song Karlie’s never heard before.
She’d be lying if she said this habit surprises her, she has stayed the night many times before moving in after all, but it was never this frequent then. Truthfully though, Karlie is thrilled she gets to witness this. When an idea truly grabs ahold of Taylor she’s a genius at work and who is Karlie to get in the way of creativity, even at two in the morning?
So she smiles as she gets back into bed. She can’t do anything but smile, listening to the unfamiliar tunes emanating from the living room. To the patter of a cat coming to investigate why everyone is out of bed. To Taylor’s soft, melodic humming. She smiles because this is safety, this is home.
More prompts coming in the next few days! 😊 If you want to keep sending me them you can do so from here or here ❤️
