I posted these on Twitter one by one, but I was waiting to have the full collection to post them here!

I saw a lot of people draw the MLP as trolls, so I wanted to give it my own spin!

You’ll notice I didn’t just slot them in the main 6 genres, mostly because I just tried to find the genre that would fit them the most! As much as I love funk fluttershy or rarity, I don’t think their music style fits them <3

Fluttershy was the first one! I went with Classical-Metal, (although I debated for folk for quite some time) mostly because I thought that would suit her the most- and because she’s a metalhead in EG! Her hairstyle is taken from one of the outfits she used when she models for photo finish!

PinkiePie was so obviously Hyperpop I didn’t even think about it twice! The music, the colours, the style, the excessive accessories- it all fits her so well!

Applejack is country, I couldn’t take that from her. Just pure old country! I had some trouble with her hair, cause I wanted it to be big and poofy like Delta or Holly’s, but the first sketches weren’t quite right. I changed it at the last minute and I’m glad I did, because now I absolutely love it! And yes, her hat is more like a hairband, it’s missing the top- that’s where she slides the ponytail into!

Twilight was classical- I had no doubts from that, but I thought being a mix between techno and classical would fit her very well! I gave her a sort of gown-like tailfin, and her wings also work as extra fins! All in all, I wanted her to look like a mix between an angel and a jellyfish! Her hair is lighter because it!s always subtly glowing- and also because dark hair wouldn’t work for either classical (who have cotton candy shades) and techno (whose hair is always glowing)

Rarity is still a debate between Classical-Pop and Swing! I thought classical pop was great for her, especially because of her songs, but swing was SUCH a good style and genre for her! A lot of her outfits always have that vintage vibe, and her hairstyle reminded me of the headdresses they used in the 20s-30s!

Rainbowdash is PopRock, obviously. She has goggles for when she flies and her earrings are clear! The pop trolls are all brightly coloured so I kept the rainbow hair instead of using less colours, but I dimmed them so that she would blend in better with the rock theme!

And yes, all 6 of them have their elements on them! It’s just that they’re not all visible!

Twilight has it on her chest, Applejack and Rainbowdash have them on their belts! Pinkie pie has it on a hairclip, Rarity has it on a pin on her dress and fluttershy has it on her back!

Don't let their looks fool you, they are actually good parents. (Maybe "okay" parents, they did let Liv run away with her boyfriend they never met and his band at 15. (But she was responsible and called them to explain her decision and that she already talked with the school and will be taking special exams at the end of every semester, so it's all good lmao.))

In my AU the Techno/Rock Trolls are the largest population of mixed trolls. They live concentrated along the shore between the Rock and Techno Kingdoms and also extending north into the no-man's-land on the map. This whole area is simply referred to as "the Shallows". They have their own communities and villages there which are located partially on land or exposed reefs/rocks and partially in the water.

Liv grew up in one of those villages. Her parents own a small apartment carved into a cliff side above the ocean. Personally they prefer walking over floating/swimming, and they can't stay in the sun for too long either (they all inherited sun sensitive skin from their Techno sides) so this way they're mostly on land and also aren't in direct sunlight after noon.

It's a modest home but I imagine they must have the prettiest sunrises.

Despite the Shallows having their own communities they still belong under the Rock Kingdom which doesn't really care about them or their different needs much, so a lot of the trolls living there are very anti authority.

Yeah, one thing I always wondered in actual Canon shorts and animated series is why there was never an episode where Branch had to deal with the drawbacks of his silence for 20 years. True, it's a cartoon, and cartoon logic exists, and it'd probably be a bad idea for the main lead to be portrayed with a scratchy, rusty voice (especially since his VA is Justin Timberlake) or dealing with being unable to sing for long periods of time or losing his voice... but it'd be a cool idea to explore worldbuilding purposes and stuff. Like, how do the different tribes deal with that sort of burnout? Trolls seem to have evolved in a way that music is such a huge part of their lives and cultures, loaing yiur voice or burnout like that is probably more common amongst younger trolls who aren't used to singing as much and seeing it into adulthood is probably rare if not unheard of.

There have been days where Branch's throat gets very irritated as his vocal cords aren't used to being used. He usually uses the honey cough drops or chews on mint leaves to soothe it. But when it gets pretty bad, Poppy forces him to relax at her pod and uses an old routine designed for trollings.

She uses a humidifier and puts in a few drops of eucalyptus, peppermint, rosemary, and a bit of cinnamon. Then, she prepares lemon tea with honey to soothe the throat. There is no singing or talking for the rest of the day, and it works like a charm.

It isn't until after Band Together that it really got bad. When the pop troll trick didn't work, she asked the other tribes for advice.

Techno trolls gargle warmed salt water and swallow a syrup made from agar.

Classical trolls have a special rub made from a minty herb that grows in the mountains. It was originally invented by their cousins, the opera trolls.

Country also uses a syrup made from a special cactus that's also used in making liquor, but it's also mixed with desert flowers that have healing properties and a special cactus fruit that is quite similar to lemon.

Funk trolls also use cough drops, but these have a medicated liquid center that brings instant relief to the throat, and a little hot water with mint goes a long way.

Rock trolls have special hot springs that not only relax their muscles, but by breathing in the steam, it can help heal any sort of throat ailment.

JD also has a trick he learned in the wild. There's a special root that if you break it apart, the smell can instantly clear the nose, and by diluting it into a tea, it warms not only the throat, it also warms the body.

what was trollex and clays reaction when they found out they were having the triplets?

Sorry for the late response! Finals week is coming up.

This is actually a big one to answer for me, because I got a whole scenario planned out and I’m so glad you asked this.

My HCs That Help to Make This Make Sense

Pop Trolls naturally only have one egg at a time

Techno Trolls naturally can have more than one at a time(bc fish)

The mixing of genres cause different effects to a certain troll when they have an egg or more due to each type of genre needing specific resources. For example, a Rock Troll egg would require a large amount of calcium in order to naturally have the harder shell they usually do and a Pop Troll may not be able to provide that amount unless they’re aware of this, in which they just have to put more calcium into their diet, but its still a rare case for a Pop Troll to have a Rock Troll egg without any soft spots due to the lacking requirements. So in this case, a Pop Troll, who is naturally adapted to making only one egg at a time, having more than one is asking for extra resources from the Pop Troll that they may not have due to the resources needs being so different

Pop Trolls are more adapted to being overprotective of their eggs, due to their major history with the Bergens and being extra vulnerable as prey animals compared to the other genres

Techno Trolls are more adapted to carrying around other Techno Trolls eggs. Babysitting is a huge norm to them

Claylex Reactions and Experience of Having The Triplets

Pure shock.

First off, they did not even know they were having eggs. It was, in a way, an unexpected. Not that they didn’t want kids, Trollex especially wanted kids with Clay by this time. Clay was more focused on work and his workaholic tendencies, so he didn’t think much of it.

The thing is, Clay definitely was not aware enough to know what to expect if he were to have an egg from Trollex, and turns out it actually was a scary moment.

He definitely curses himself for not doing any research on it, but then again genres were still just beginning to mix in this period so not much knowledge was known for Trolls all across the kingdom. Plus, he wasn’t expecting to have eggs anytime soon

When it happened, he got up one morning. He was especially exhausted and his body ached, but not as much as his head. Pure migraine and him groaning from it. He made it to the kitchen just enough time to basically start having the worst pain to experience in his head. So imagine Guy Diamonds experience having Tiny Diamonds egg, and then crank it up by a ton and then multiply it by 3. Since Clay had three eggs. All with needs that his Pop Troll body isnt adapted to meet. They were draining a lot more resources than he was ready to provide.

Luckily, his brothers were there to help him through it. All through panic and John Dory passing out at one point, whom which Clay was cursing out like crazy

Clay was a cursing demon too during this, btw. He was absolutely terrifying and saying the most outlandish things, but bro had every right

Trollex also wasn’t there, because he wasn’t visiting at the time. He was all the way at the Reef when this was happening, because they weren’t expecting this to happen at all

So as soon as Clay’s hair popped out the three eggs finally, he was so physically exhausted that bro ended up passing out for three whole days straight

Absolutely terrified his brothers, who all worked to keep watch over him and relying on Dr. Moonbloom to ensure he truly was alright.

The moment Trollex found out Clay had eggs, was like hours after Clay had passed out. Trollex was so crazy happy to hear he has eggs now, that he swam out, did a whole “whoop” noise and got all his Techno Trolls to chant it back to him before he booked it so quick on his whale all the way to Trollstopia to be with Clay. He extended his stay for three whole weeks to be with him and help take care of him and the eggs.

Trollex was completely speechless the moment he got to see the eggs. He knew he loved them before he even saw them, but he didnt think it’d come so strong when he actually got to be around them. They havent even hatched and already he’s imagining all the fun stuff they can do together, all the raves he can take them too and to teach them all kinds of things from Techno culture

Despite the absolute scare it was, Trollex doesnt really understand why exactly it happened either, and is more ecstatic at the fact that they have eggs now. Because again, having more than one egg was normal to Techno Trolls.

So the moment Trollex found out about the way Pop Trolls naturally have eggs and what that put Clay through, he was extra clingy to him and apologizing over and over, feeling absolutely guilty to put him through that. He was already super loving and caring over Clay, but this increased it after that.

Clay, on the other hand, was still processing from it all and was exhausted. He thought it was so insane that he had three eggs and was never told of the possibility nor how it would go down(to be fair, no one knew of it happening like this).

Clay went through some major mood swings and the moment he saw Trollex he went from cursing him out for putting him through this situation, to crying to him about how much it hurt, to clinging to him for extra comfort from his husband

They definitely had to help him get his nourishment and energy back up too since it was drained to give to the eggs

Clay struggled a lot with contemplating if being a father was who he was now, if it erases all his work and accomplishments. Basically struggled more with his identity issues. He didn’t want being a father to override everything he’s ever accomplished.

Then he worried if he could love or protect them enough, and proceeded to cry many nights over it while holding them, afraid of being a bad parent already

Despite this though, the moment Clay was first awake and able to hold his eggs, he was so extremely protective of them that bro threatened to bite the hand off of anyone who tried to touch them. His brothers, and other pop trolls, were already aware enough to not try him. Because one, they know he’s naturally gonna be over protective and two it’s Clay so the aggression is gonna be cranked up.

Clay definitely at one point had a huge mood swing that caused him to break down in tears, fearing for his future and his eggs. Fearing that his identity of being a hard, serious worker and everything he’s done being overlooked because he’s now a father. It got so bad that bro started crying in bed, with all his family there trying to console him, and he starts irrationally freaking out and going “I can’t do this, man!! I’ll never make it as a father!!! Take them!! TAKE THEM!! RIGHT NOW- NO DONT TOUCH MY BABIES!!!” Next thing they all know, JD has a new bite scar on his arm.

John definitely had to walk into Clay’s room every time in fully homemade armor like a person wears when giving a cat a bath. He was the main target to Clay’s hostility whenever he was in his area during this time

Trollex wanted so badly to take the eggs to their first rave, but Clay shut that idea down so quick because it’d be way too dangerous, he did not want to go to some rave while busy caring for eggs, and he refuses to separate from them

Trollex had to learn very quickly that he had to be careful not to overstep Clay’s boundary when it came to the eggs, but was able to calm him down mostly enough that he could relax and let Trollex get up close to his hair to talk to, caress and be near the eggs

Trollex absolutely sung to the eggs every time him and Clay cuddled

He also talked to them and kept saying how amazing they will be out in the world one day and always says that he’ll always be there for them to love them

Makes Clay tear up and cry every time, because thats the love he wants to give his babies. Something him and his brothers never received from either of their parents

Clay is super strict when it comes to not taking his eggs out of his hair, but sometimes when he’s alone he will and set them on his criss crossed lap to hug and love on. He also uses this time to promise that he’ll do his best for them and love them with all his heart.

Clay is scared all throughout the incubating period with the eggs in wondering if he’s a bad parent, if he can truly love them, if being a parent erases who he is as a troll, but spoiler alert, the very moment they hatch he’s so overwhelmed with parent love for them

The fact that in real life Funk is a sub-genre/borned from R&B and in the troll universe is (implied to be) the opposite makes choosing music for the Funk tribe and assigning irl music to a troll's genre so weird and confusing.

Lets not even start with how Jazz and its different genres, Blues, Disco, Gospel, Soul and others would get mixed into this. It's already difficult to draw a hard line between them in real life since a lot of these genres originated from one another, influence each other and overlap quite often and are even sometimes fully grouped together (R&B been both its on genre, but also the grouping of Blues and Rhythm). It feels wrong to just completely mix them together into Funk or say they are a sub-genre of Funk because how different, nuanced and big each of these genres can be (and how many of them are older than Funk itself), but them being one of the main tribes and R&B already been a sub-genre of Funk in universe doesn't help.

Which leads to the question of again, we're does this leave Jazz? It has many roots in Blues and some jazz sub-genres are often group together with R&B and Gospel (forming the "genre" of Soul music), but most of Jazz can be and IS very different from Soul and Funk. And that is not even mentioning how heavily Jazz influenced Hip-Hop, R&B and even Funk. I think Im having a stroke...

Anyways, it seems that the lesson today is that even though the Troll Tribes are a fun and creative idea it also really simplifies and separates the topic of music genres abd music history, something thats famously complex and interconnected. I didn't even mentioned genres like Rock, Techno, Rock-and-Roll and others that were also pioneered by black american communities and were influenced/influential and share similarities to Jazz, Funk, Blues and R&B.

Aka.: Music genres in real life doesn't exist in a vacuum and wasn't born out of thin air, but they did in the Trolls universe so let's not think so hard about it and just roll with it for the sake of all of our sanities.

(This rant/discussion was born out of me finding a brazillian jazz and soul song that really fitted Funk Branch and researching the history of black-american genres for two hours just to make it make sense some what because I obviously wasn't giving such a good song to fucking Chaz. Anyways the song is De Ontem by Liniker, it's really good and I recommend it a lot - for Branch and in general - even if the translation I found on google was quite bad. If you plan to listen to it, I can write and send you a somewhat better one if you want)

Anyhow, sorry for the insanely long ask. If you take a shot for everytime a mention a music genre, you would quite literally die before the ask was over. Thank you for reading <3

That's kind of a thing with music irl yeah, the genres are messy and almost every song when you look it up has at least two genres it's accredited to. I think part of the point of the movie is that it's hard to stay confined to a single genre and all genres take influence from each other and are born from each other. Pop and Rock were born from the same thing, they just split in different directions.

I take the irl genres of songs as a suggestion. If something seems more like it'd be the Funk Trolls vibe, then it's their music.

Remix AU - Chapter 3

Part 2 / Part 4

Bubble swam forward, not paying attention to anything. All kinds of small fish passed her by, and she made happy noises to them. Inside, Trollex and Beat Drop were looking at the map. The map showed all six kingdoms that the techno king intended to visit.

"I think we should start with Symphonyville.", said Trollex. "I like the symbolism of this decision. The oldest kind of music mixed with the new kind of music. Classical trolls will definitely appreciate it."

Beat Drop nodded, but he had his own plan.

"And I think we should start with Volcano Rock City. It's the closest."

"Where's the symbolism?", Trollex crossed his arms.

"Barb came to our kingdom first.", Beat Drop said. "Now we visit her first."

Trollex hummed thoughtfully, then agreed with his friend. That was also good symbolism. Besides, they would save time between trips to other kingdoms.

Trollex was really looking forward to his first remix. He felt an excitement similar to the one he felt at his first party. It was amazing. Colorful lights, a happy crowd, and great music. Trollex hoped that other trolls would feel the same. The same excitement.

After a few hours, the whale-bus found herself in warm waters. The warmth was caused by the volcano that was in the rock trolls' territory. This meant that they were close to their first target. Once they were close to shore, Bubble, using her strength and endurance, began to tear through the ground, creating an underwater tunnel. It was uncomfortable, but it didn't hurt her. The closer they got to Volcano Rock City, the warmer it got. Trollex had to make sure they had enough water in their bottles. He didn't like his skin drying out.

Volcano Rock City, the city of the rock trolls, was nothing like Techno Reef. Buildings covered in leather and studs, caves, stone roads, thorny plants, lava flows that flowed through the city, and a sky that was perpetually covered in dark clouds. Living in such a climate was very difficult, but for the rock trolls, there was no better place. They were happy and wouldn't change a thing.

Riff, the queen's right hand, was just leaving college. He was a student, and a studious one at that. He was keen on an education, something that was not really common in rock troll society. Riff was about to head home when he felt the ground begin to shake. The trolls around him stopped, alarmed by the sudden earthquake.

"Is the volcano erupting again?", one of them asked.

"It just erupted a week ago.", another commented. "It's a bit too early for that."

Suddenly, the ground cracked, split open, and the hole filled with warm water. Then, a large whale emerged. The rock trolls were very surprised. Whales did not exist in their waters, and especially not in the middle of the city. Riff walked closer, wanting to see what was going on. Bubble, seeing the other trolls, smiled, and then opened her large mouth. Inside, was Trollex and Beat Drop. Both looked happy and satisfied with achivig the first goal of their journey.

“A techno troll?”, said someone from the crowd.

“And he has a flying fish.”, added another.

Riff recognized who it was. He walked closer to the whale.

"Um, hi.", he said. "I think I recognize you… You're… King Trollex, right?"

"Right.", Trollex nodded. "And you are…"

"Riff. We saw each other during…", Riff fell silent.

He didn't want to think back to the world tour, especially knowing what he and the rest of the trolls had done in the Techno Reef. Trollex just looked at his fish companion, then back at Riff.

“It's in the past.”, the king said with a smile. “There is nothing to remember.”

The male rock troll sighed with relief.

"Then what are you doing here, your highness?" he asked.

"Is Barb home?"

Barb, the queen of all hard rock trolls, was a strong leader, always ready to rock. With a guitarr in her hand, she led her trolls, giving them the best heavy music. Her concerts always ended with some epic explosion or chaos, which everyone loved. But at that moment, Barb was calmly sitting on the couch and playing the melody to her new song. She was going to play it during her next concert.

Then, the door opened and Riff walked in.

"Hey, Barb!", the young rock troll shouted.

The Queen stopped playing and looked at her friend.

"Yo, Riff.", she said. "Good to have you back. We need to practice a new song."

"In a moment. We have guests."

Barb tilted her head. She hadn't expected anyone. Maybe it was Poppy? But instead of Poppy, it was Trollex who stood in the doorway, holding a weird looking suitcase. Beat Drop, who was sitting in his hair, couldn't stop looking around curiously. The young king seemed very excited about his visit to Rock Fortress. The building itself looked like the others in the city, only larger, with extended underground. Barb, seeing him, put down her guitar and approached her guest.

"King Trollex?", said Barb with unconcealed surprise. "What are you doing here?"

"Hey, Barb. Good to see you.", Trollex greeted her. "We're here to get to know your music better."

Barb didn't quite understand what Trollex meant. And why. Before, no one from outside their kingdom wanted to know more about hard rock, especially after what had happened… Some of the trolls were still distrustful of them. Riff went closer to his queen.

“He wants to learn,”. he whispered. “He said he wanted to understand rock at its source.”

Barb nodded. Well, at least the techno trolls were more open-minded. This could be a great opportunity to warm up their relations.

"Well, if the fishy wants to learn, then let it learn.", said Barb. "But on my terms. Trollex, we're going on stage."

"Do I need to bring anything with me?", asked the techno king.

“Just the desire to ride hard.”, Barb smiled knowingly.

After a moment, Trollex, Beat Drop, Barb and Riff were under the stage. It was huge. Huge speakers stood on the sides, to which electric guitars were connected. Barb jumped on the stage and grabbed one of them.

"Hard rock is more than just loud music and headbanging. It's a lifestyle.", said the queen, before playing a few riffs on her guitar. "We put in all our energy, all our soul! Rock allows us to express ourselves and what we feel. Get it?"

Trollex nodded. Then, Barb started playing the guitar, and Riff joined her a moment later. They both played, jumped around, not caring that they could accidentally break something. Trollex was impressed. The rock music sounded pretty good.

"This will make a good remix.", Trollex said to himself quietly, and Beat Drop, who was still hiding in his hair, nodded. "When they're done, we'll start our experiment."

But to get started, they needed to record some audio. Luckily, like any troll, Trollex also had a few little things hidden in his hair. Including a recorder. Beat Drop quickly found it, and began secretly recording a rock concert.

After a few minutes, Barb and Riff ended their performance in grand style. Barb smashed her guitar on the ground.

"Woo! That's the kind thing I love!", shouted the delighted queen, then she looked at her guest. "Did you like it?"

"Very much!", Trollex smiled and clapped his hands. "Actually, I'd like to play something too. Can I?"

Barb, thinking that Trollex wanted to try his hand at heavy music, let him on stage. When the young king and his companion were on stage, suddenly, Trollex put down his suitcase. He opened it, and it turned into a DJ station. Barb and Riff watched all this with obvious confusion.

"Trollex, what are you doing?", asked the queen.

Trollex didn't answer. He took the recorder from Beat Drop and connected it to the station. Then, he looked at the rock trolls.

"I hope you like it!", he said cheerfully.

He turned on the station, and techno music began to play. The sound alerted the other trolls, and they quickly ran to the stage to see what had happened. The rock music the queen had been playing earlier, flowed through the speakers. Barb suddenly realized what was happening.

"He wants to remix our music!", she shouted, and ran towards the stage.

Before she could climb on it, the rock music mixed with techno, and a powerful drop with bass boomed out of the speakers, pushing Barb and her trolls away. Trollex played his own concert, the only way he knew. The way he mixed rock with techno made the rock trolls' music no longer sound like theirs. It wasn't rock anymore. But Trollex and Beat Drop didn't really care. Their experiment was a success! They could remix other music with their own, creating something new and unique. Something better. The rock trolls couldn't get on stage and stop it. The bass from the speakers acted as a barrier. All they could do was stand there and watch as their beloved music was mixed with techno, against their will…

After a few minutes, Trollex finished his rave. He was very proud of himself. His new music was recorded. He couldn't wait to show his new remix to his trolls. While he and Beat Drop packed up their DJ station, Barb and Riff tried to calm down the trolls. The remix had a bad effect on them. Everyone had a headache, some were even having a small panic attack. The more Barb tried to control the situation, the angrier she became. She quickly turned to the stage, where Trollex and Beat Drop were getting ready to leave.

"You! What was that!?", Barb screamed at them.

The young techno king stopped and looked at Barb, not understanding what she meant.

"Well… Music?", Trollex tilted his head. "I took rock and mixed it with techno. Cool, right?"

"No! Very not cool at all!", Barb continued to scream. "When you said you wanted to play something, I thought you'd take the guitar, not desecrate our music!"

"Desecrate? I made it even better!"

Barb wanted to shout something back, but the way Trollex said it, caught her off guard. Did he really think what he did was good? Before Barb could get over her shock, Trollex smiled innocently, taking her silence for agreeing with him.

"Thanks for everything, Barb.", said Trollex. "I'd love to stay here longer, and play you more rock remixes, but I'm should continue my trip."

Then, Trollex whistled, and the ground shook again and split. The hole filled with water, and Bubble came to the call. As Bubble opened her mouth, Trollex, along with his fish companion, walked in. In farewell, the techno king made a rock hand gesture, and then Bubble submerged herself, disappearing under the water, leaving behind a large hole, and upset trolls.

Barb felt helpless. She couldn't believe she had let this happen. Her music had been remixed against her will. She felt awful. It might not be as awful as her world tour, but it still wasn't good.

"Barb? Is everything okay?", asked Riff, slowly approaching his queen. Her silence was very worrying.

Then, Barb looked at her friend, and there seemed to be fire burning in her eyes...

I'm curious now, if someone made a reaction fic with canon watching your stories (not me because I suck at those), how do you think they would react? Especially if Branch was still gray?

Oh I play out this fic plot in my head on almost a daily basis.

If I were to put, Grey Branch, Poppy, Viva the snackpack, and Brozone into a room to watch my aus, both fics would probably start the same. Shock on both sides (brozone to Branch's state, and The Snackpack to Branch's alter ego as Bitty B), but eventually they'd all settle and start watching. Though, Brozone would definitely not that Creek at first glance. Viva would cling to her sister and the Snackpack would welcome her, but they would be very confused when she starts acting paranoid about the bergens like Branch, and Creek would..be Creek...getting on her bad side. Bruce would have to step in explaining that Trauma doesn't work the way Creek is trying to simplify it (he read a lot of the vacationer's psychology books before his kids were born). Needless to say, by the time that everyone has sat down the room is tense.

For Burning Branches it's pretty clear that this is an alternate universe so, they kind of just sit back and enjoy.

The Snackpack would get to witness the abuse a tiny grey branch would get in the tree, while Brozone gets to see Branch follow in there footsteps and escaping on his own. Branch himself remembers a few of these events but doesn't remember leaving so he interested in seeing where he counterpart went. Practically everyone panics when they see the head injury on screen, Floyd even starts crying at the sight. Once the rock trolls get involved it draws a lot of surprise from the whole group. Floyd and JD aren't too surprised they've been around the block before, and have a basic gest of the other tribes. Bruce is in the same boat as a few Techno trolls have washed up on Vacay island. However none of them had seen rock trolls in person and their dulled nature are a little disturbing, considering what dulled means for Pop trolls. Clay and Viva are paying rapid attention to the rock trolls on screen, because considering the environment their people live in these guys know how to survive and protect themselves. The Snackpack has mixed reactions, Cooper wonders if theirs another tribe that looks like him, Poppy just wants to help these guys find happiness cause they are way to serious in her opinion, Creek calls them brutes (impressing no one), while the rest of the pack are either confused/fearful/curious. Branch is just awed, this troll, the rock king no less, on screen took his other version and saved him. Not only pull him from the water but take this trolling stranger into his home and raised on-screen Branch as his own. It's made veery clear that the pop and rock tribes do not get along, and yet this king was willing to risk his power and reputation to care for Char, King Peppy never kept Branch for more then two days until shipping him off to the next foster family. He even seemed mad on Char's behalf, something Branch had never thought anyone would do. The amnesia is something that hurts Brozone, learning that in one world there brother forgot about them. Branch is a little envious of Char, after all losing his memories was pretty starting a new life with a clean slate. Sure he watches Char struggle, but he also watches Char thrive, regaining his color, learning to love music again, making friends, having a family behind him, heck even getting Poppy for a love interest. Sure, it's an arranged marriage between the tribes, and makes the theater very awkward, but there's a clear connection between the two of them. By the end of the whole first movie all the snackpack (minus Creek) and Bruce are shipping Poppy/Char (Choppy? We should call them Choppy), and they get pissed when John Dory on screen interrupts their wedding.

For FOF, it's more of confusing reaction since this could still be their actual future.

Branch makes notes to look out for Keith, cause just in case there might be a trolling who's a little weird ending up in the foster system after losing his dad and he doesn't want that to happen. Kid seems sweet and not that judging. As the au goes on, Branch feels all sort of embarrassment, from them witnessing his panic attacks and how they called him cute for the more wholesome reactions when it comes to Keith. When the whole wolf incident comes on screen, Poppy ask Branch if he would really do that for the village, and everyone is shocked when he nods. Creek tries to say the the forest is over dramatizes in this and that the critters aren't that cruel in real life, Branch just rolls his eyes only to hear John Dory come to his defense, as a survivalist himself he had to deal with predators, and everything on screen is necessary. FOF Branch is a lot harsher on his brothers and the interactions on screen are a lot more charged. Branch isn't sure how he feels about this counterpart. There's a feeling of justice at watchin his brothers get what's coming to them, but it also hurts that he's hurting them. He doesn't hold the same anger that FOF feels. Smidge kind of wants to meet her FOF counterpart, someone who uses her strength to save others, she's down for it. And Asks Branch if he could set up something like that in there world or at least train her, to help him in the forest. Branch is confused by that. Creek completely denies that he would betray everyone, but strangely Branch doesn't believe him. FOF Branch's wounds are scary to think about for everyone but Branch forces himself not to react. Broppy makes once more everyone uncomfortable, Branch feeling awkward, Bruce teasing, Poppy blushing, Creek giving the grey troll the stick eye. It's harder to different Canon from AU with FOF since Char is less Branch like.

There's just so much that could happen that i can't fit it into one post, but if anyone wants to make one to these they have my full permission. Though that might want to wait until the final product is finished.

GOD you reminded me of when i eventually realized how massively fucked the pop trolls were pre 1st movie. i remember trying to read everything i could that talked about it and staying up til 4 am to do it because holy hell they were being eaten on a yearly basis. the fact that world tour makes it a point to say that only peppy ever knew of the other tribes makes me lean more onto the assumption that its been... a while? but also like. no one's ever mentioned viva? no one remembers the princess who was old enough to fight bergens and mention that to poppy??? whos to say these guys arent just repressing everything as they always do????????? so for the sake of it. i like to think that theyve been under the bergens' capture long enough that everyone outside of the royal family forgot about the time that they were even free from the bergens. long enough that the royal family could rewrite the scrapbooks to make it seem like it wasnt their fault. that it never was. whether to spare themselves the blame, selfish deniability, or just. give up the hope that there was a single minuscule possibility to have help from the outside.

i said before that i headcanonned peppy holding resentment for them in the belief that no one could ever bother to just check. and thats part of the reason why he doesnt even want to attempt getting to know them, since it probably felt like no one EVER cared except for themselves.

more than anything. the realization of how hard the pop trolls' lives mustve even been prior to the first movie made me have so much fucking love for them even more?? Have you ever thought what inter-troll tribe mixes would look like? ex. Rock troll/Pop troll, Techno troll/Pop troll.

Hi! Actually not really as you can see my acc revolves around the pop tribe a lot so even though the other tribes are going to appear in the roots AU I don't really have them in mind.

And I know this may be a really unpopular opinion but the headcanon of Branch/brozone being part rock troll has never called my attention not even a little bit (this is my personal opinion please don't kill me /jo)

Love your troll anatomy headcanons!! Do you have any thoughts for glitter trolls? Are they considered a subspecies to pop trolls? And what about the bounty hunter trolls?

Thank you sm! as far as we are aware, in canon, glitter trolls have only been seen in the pop tribe; so, i would consider them to be a subtype of poptroll !

The Kpop trolls are obviously a subtype of pop/glitter, possibly with a mutated gene for glitter skin that makes it smooth and holographic. Smooth jazz probably originates from an old mixed tribe of classical, funk, and pop (which is why Chaz can fly, has curled hair that grows downward, and a similar body type to poptrolls). Yodelers and Country i’d think originate from a common ancestor i’ll call Folk trolls. Reggaeton probably originates from different tribes of funk + techno + pop + rock mixing, creating new genres that then also mixed, until eventually becoming Reggaeton (convoluted, i know).

The world is a large place, and i doubt all the genres really stayed completely separated all those years. the sub genres are born from breakaway tribes who probably mingled with other breakaway tribes, making all kinds of music and what not.

Kade (the first troll with half purple and orange hair) is part of the rock genre and is a sub-genre to rock. Kade is a cousin of barb’s that is the king of Heavy Metal. So with a bit of research it is said that Heavy metal compared to rock is more Heavier so I decided making him king of heavy metal.

Pika (the troll with mint colored hair) is a Horror-core troll. So she is vaguely into horror music or anything horror related.

Zaida (the orange-haired troll) and Seaura (the blue-haired troll) are underwater trolls like the Techno trolls but They are more of a sub-genre to the main genres funk, pop, country, rock and classical. Zaida is and siren troll while Seaura is a mermaid. I made them based off the song BIRTH OF VENUS. Sirens voices are more in the hypnotic route while Mermaids have voices that can have extremely powerful sound waves that can break through solid things. Sirens voice are more of a mix of pop and funk while Mermaids are a mix of pop and rock. The last two are also part of these species. Timara (the red troll with multicolored hair) is a Mermaid troll and Kiki (the yellow troll) is a Siren. Another thing is that Sirens and Mermaids can camouflage as normal land trolls. They camouflage themselves so pirates won’t get them.

Anyway I’ll have more information on each of them with another post stating some facts about them. Thanks for enjoying my content lately.

Thank you very much! I feel like I really hit the nail on the head with their designs, but the truth is they were cooking in my head for a very long time before this.

From the first time I thought about what all the bandmates' parents would look like, I was already thinking of making Liv's parents both Techno/Rock fusions like her. I think what originally made me gravitate towards this idea is the fact that Liv is the only one in the band who has a very very strong sense of self and does not have any kind of identity crisis or self image issues. I feel like the only way to make this fact feel believable in a young character in her position is through their parents. So I gave her parents who are both similar to her and each other and who are together and loving, and who live in a society of other Rock/Techno trolls too. (Also thinking about it more, it just made sense that the "rockers" and the "ravers" would have the largest population of mixed offspring, they're also right next to each other on the map, so i came up with the Shallows and all of that because of this...)

Liv's genre at the very start was very simply just electronic rock. But as I discovered more music over the past months she became more industrial metal with punk elements. - My OCs develop a lot by me bouncing them off each other. When Hed and Liv meet, Hed's Rock/Metal instincts are very much suppressed from living almost his entire life around Funk Trolls. I needed Liv's genre (to obviously feel right for her, but also) to be hardcore enough to be able to bring out Hed's suppressed side without clashing with his love for rap.

Now that Liv's genre/playlist stopped changing so much and I've been happy with where I am with her for a while, I was able to determine her parents' genres based on that. Which was simply one parent being Industrial Metal and the other something electronic and punk (which I later found out is just called Electropunk lol).

Her dad Flint is heavily based on Keith Flint from the Prodigy. So heavily he is basically that guy's trollsona lol.

The Prodigy, if you don't know, were pioneers in fusing dance music with rock music. It was pretty fascinating reading about it. I recently watched this good and not-dragged-out video about their origins and till their biggest single Firestarter.

Even before I started designing any of them I knew I wanted to give one of the parents' very stylized neon "shark teeth". In my mind it felt like such a good fusion of sharp Rock teeth and the weird blocky neon Techno teeth. And when I fixated on Keith Flint for inspiration it just felt right to give them to him. Look at this guy!

I named the dad Flint simply after this guy's last name. But also it's a nice rocky name. Also flint was historically used to start fire which kind of makes it a punk name in my opinion too. Plus -> Firestarter, the big Prodigy single. :P

The mom I designed after I outlined the dad and I didn't have any particular person in mind for her. Her design is mostly Liv's characteristics that I didn't yet represent in her dad. Direct outside inspiration was more or less just these cool neon rave pants because she deserved some bright color lmao.

I gave her a German accent because I always imagined Liv with a vague European accent, and also simply because Germans seem to be the gods of industrial metal. But my music inspiration when drawing her was also Laibach, which is a Slovenian band, so I gave her the name Meta because it is both a German and Slovenian name (In German it's a short form of Margarete meaning "pearl", and in Slovenian the name literally means "mint".) Meta also just felt like a good fit to go along with Oblivion, Liv's full name.

Now as I've written all this and read the question again I realize this is probably not what you were asking for at all... But consider this as a bit of a behind the scenes for my AU. 😅 Bonus content on the dvd but instead in the form of a boring tumblr post. :P

how bad do you consider the bigotry and intolerance ran within the trolls kingdom before WT? In canon and in your aus?

Hmmmm, canon wise? I don't think it was that extreme at all honestly. The only one who could have been called outright bigot was Barb, who didn't shy from making disparaging remarks against against any and all major genres, especially against Pop. Same for intolerance honestly.

Most negativity in the movie would be called prejudice, in my opinion, especially because most of their hang ups with each other stems fron ancient turbulent history and from the fact all the tribes became isolated from one another. Rumour gives to rumour, and stereotypes rise, and before you know it, you are unknowingly prejudiced against a whole nation of people simply because you've never had a chance to meet one and actually form any opinions yourself.

It's not like that, with bigotry; that one is prejudice that falls deep into obsessive irrationality. It's not enough that there is a group of people you formed a negative opinion about, you simply cannot stand the thought of them sharing the same breathing space as you, and this drives you to confronting them- a self proclaimed crusader, as you believe you are doing the world a favour.

This is why only Barb really fits that label. The other tribes and leaders might have some prejudices, they are aware there are different genres of music, but those concerns definitelly don't rank high enough for them to care all the time. They go about their day, living happily, concerning themselves with only their own personal worries.

When it comes to intolerance, Barb lays claim to it as well, as her beef with other music is portrayed with no small amount of digust- but Poppy herself has shown to be fairly intolerant and prejudiced as well, with her conviction that other trolls are simply mislead and confused about what music should be about. Non-malicious conviction, yet a sinister one at the same time.

Thankfully, Poppy is openminded- which is what Barb lacks (and what makes the ending so abrupt and silly, as Barb simply isnt the type of person to suddenly switch from one opinion to another so easily but I digress)

Now, in my AUs. The situation is of course more complicated XD

Barb still claims her title of the biggest bigot under the sun- especially in the Rock Beast AU- but thorough my various tidbits I wrote in responses, it's clear to say she was radicalized. The prejudices running rampart through the Rock Kingdom, Thrash's refusal to let her set foot outside Volcano City, his inability to curb her temper and discipline her properly- all that plus having negative experiences with clear mixed blood trolls while she was a child is enough to twist unsavoury opinions into obsession. Surrounding herself by like minded individuals, giving herself the sense of kinship and community only enboldened her to go along with far more radical actions, and much like a charismatic leader, she swayed the public on her side by telling them exactly what they wanted to hear.

Even in my AUs, the isolation doesn't do the Tribes any favour. While yet again intolerance and bigotry is more rampart among Rock Trolls as of present, other tribes have their own 'troublemakers' in that regard, who, realistically, won't be stoked to suddenly be expected to make friends with someone who they think is lesser.

But honestly, each tribe carries prejudice in different flavour.

For Rock Trolls, the emotion fueling it is mostly anger, with perhaps some fearful undertones. Classicals are fueled by pride and arrogance in their own. Funk is caution; the wariness of history repeating itself. Techno's come from the unknown; they were the most out of the loop, and they are the most different- they know nothing about the other tribes. Country's come mainly from sheer annoyance; the feeling of being disrespected and most importanlty from being disrupted- they live hard life and cannot afford distractions.

If Pop Tribe never got trapped and they kept their full history, the common folk would be driven by fear; similar to techno, fear of the unknown, while for the royal family, it would be fear of retaliation.

The rule of the thumb is, the bigger the city, the further away from the borders, the more prejudice and most importantly vocal prejudice can be found among the trolls living there. Naturally, the younger the generation, the more willing they are to mingle, and the closer to the borders, the more likely there is that there would happen to be some herritage mixing.

If one lives among different cultures their whole life, then unless they are outright brought up by their parents/guardians/caretaker to treat them differently, they will be far more tolerant and openminded toward the new.

Anyway, I also think lots of trolls are subcosciously prejudiced; and they are not aware that they are, until they are met face to face with the new. From there, it really just depends on who they are as a person, to see if they double down or would extend the effort to grow out of them and be better.
