the idea of a park like the The Raj in westworld existing makes me sick to my stomach because of course it would if white people had that kind of tech!! while the coloniser roleplay fetish is definitely presented as An Option for westworld guests, the raj is crazy in that that is the entire purpose of the park. the emphasis on assisted hunting and sex tourism is so sick. I appreciate that all the guests we see are white. but also knowing that the hosts in that park rebelling against guests who have specifically come to live their colonial fetish fantasies sounds like it would kind of fun/cathartic to watch. wouldn't have minded to have seen that explored further, or least gotten a focused episode the way shogunworld did, but alas

i never understood how people saw cyberpunk as a specific setting/aesthetic until i learned that the hong kong cityscape was one of the big inspirations for it. they just looked like regular ass cities to me

I have been meaning to make a gelli animation fanart on Exmachina for a while. It has become one of my favourite only because there are some really great crits around the film. It’s one of those films where the director’s bias becomes the main character once you de-center Ava and focus on Kyoko and the other bots left as body parts throughout the lab

I would suggest reading Daniella Wong’s essay:  Dismembered Asian/American Android Parts in Ex Machina as ��Inorganic’ Critique which focuses on techno orientalism and post-human identity in context to Asian American relationship

I found the film relevant when I was trying to understand Open Ai and its learning models especially Midjourney etc- and this foolish idea that Ai is sentient and creative. It was recently uncovered that Chat GPT was outsourcing their moderation to Kenyan workers via a third party company Samasource. Just like Kyoko they end up doing bulk of the work without proper compensation and protection while Ava (The Ai) is seen as creating beautiful images and spouting philosophy.

people who think ctechno is cold just cannot get past cctechnos voice i think. like he was so deadpan and monotone at times (as a fellow monotone person trust me when I say there's a lot more you can hear if you pay attention, but regardless the point here is monotone =/= uncaring even if you personally cannot hear the emotion) that people couldn't grasp that he really did care and just expressed himself differently. like cracking jokes and having a flat affect does not make you emotionless or unserious when it matters ffs.

So like, if trains and vehicles are like Techno-Organic Beasts with human faces, I think that Hiro and Yong Bao would definitely be Oriental Dragons with two different designs for each other

Yong Bao would definitely be tiger themed (Obviously)

And Hiro would definitely be Kirin themed (because why not?)

Just imagine, two of them being long, noodle dragons as beasts. 🐉 🚂
