Sneak Peak of the Cutting-Edge Futuristic Netflix Thai Original ‘Tomorrow and I’
What happens when hyper-advanced technology collides with traditional Thai beliefs and customs? Discover the answers in Tomorrow and I, a four episode anthology series that takes viewers on a journey through a futuristic Thailand where technology has become an inescapable part of daily life.
The cast includes Pakorn Chatborrirak, Violette Wautier, Waruntorn Paonil, Treechada Hongsyok, Ray Macdonald, Timethai, Thongchai Thongkuntom, Aelm Thavornsiri, Pongsatorn Jongwilas, Chananticha Chaipa, and Wanichaya Pornpanarittichai.
This groundbreaking series is directed by Paween Purijitpanya a trailblazing filmmaker known for his genre-defying works such as Body, 4bia, and Phobia 2. Paween has also showcased his talents with the feel-good series Seven Something, the boundary-pushing film Ghost Lab, and his exceptional direction in the episode “Liberation” of Girl from Nowhere Season 2. In Tomorrow and I, Paween reimagines four everyday scenarios in intriguing ways, starting with…
Episode 1: Bringing your loved ones back from the dead. Imagine a future where innovation has reached its peak, testing the boundaries of life and death. In this world, the cycle of birth, death, and being reborn may become an everyday reality through the technology of cloning.
Tumblr media
Episode 2: Welcome to a place where technology meets intimacy. Have you ever felt that your partner couldn't quite meet your desires, or felt uncertain because you're still new to relationships? What if there's a city where technology might provide the solution? Enter a world where intelligent sex robots are designed to cater to every emotional and physical need.
Tumblr media
Episode 3: What if a Techno-Monk joined the Buddha and the Dharma in the Triple Gem, replacing the Sangha? Imagine AI continuing ancient teachings preserved and upheld for over 2,500 years, revolutionizing Buddhism. Could this challenge traditional faith, or signal the end of the monastic order?
Tumblr media
Episode 4: And if an entire city were submerged underwater after years of relentless rainfall, how would humanity survive? Would people fall into despair as the waters rose, or would they have to rely on "octopuses," potentially the last hope for survival? When this moment arrives, everyone will face a crisis beyond our species' abilities.
Tumblr media
Unveil the future in Tomorrow and I, the year-end series that will spark your imagination and challenge your perceptions of a world where technology seamlessly integrates into every facet of our lives. Coming soon, exclusively on Netflix.

Blood is War
Yo, so i just enter Record of Ragnarok fandom, and i'm a fan of Technoblade.
It may be one of my stupid or lovable idea, what if i combine those two like, Techno died(may he rest in peace) and he wake up in RoR!Ares body? I mean Techno knows about Greek Myth.
The funny part of this idea is that this version of RoR!Ares is Techno reborn, he watch the manga in this version so he knows the outcome but no one knows!
Techno!Ares got two forms, one is the RoR!Ares form the other is Technoblade's skin, not the human but the minecraft, the fanart, the animatic one, abviously im gonna still made the form tall for the drama and Techno!Ares act like RoR!Ares but its all an act k.
It goes something like this:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ares walk down the corridor of valhalla, he is Technoblade, Alex, not Ares, but its cool, its just suck he died.
He got new life now, but something cool happen, he realize his minecraft combat skills got brought with him to this anime or manga or whatever world is, which is sick! But he act like the RoR!Ares, why? Because he like the deceit hes doing, and cuz he dont like these gods around, imagine their surprise when he turn to Technoblade.
Five Minutes Later
And they found out by accident which is suck because the one found out is Apollo, Heracles and Hermes, that quickly turn to triple sucks
How they found out you ask? Well. . .
Ares found this cool place! It has a spring thing that came up with hot water or something, he forgot the name, he remembers that this aint that Apollo place so he is safe or so he thought
He didnt realize three people came to that place to relax aswell, and he thought it would even be a better idea to enjoy it with the Techno!form, it is as tall as RoR!Ares but with Buddha body type.
Something Like This:
Tumblr media
Found in Pinterest
And so he stupidly turn to his Techno!form before entering the spring despite hearing people walk in thinking those might be just some servant.
"Brother Ares?" He freze for a moment at the sound of vouce odly sound like Hermes before turning his head around
Lo and behold there standing a shock Apollo, Hermes and Hercules staring at him like some pinguin, and he just stare at them coldly, just outside tho, inside he is panicking.
"..." he didnt answer and turn his head back and enter the spring, not caring on outside look but crying on the inside, he give up.
Apollo POV:
I do not know what to say, i was bringing Justice-chan and Hermes-san to this place as a chance for gossiping.
When entering i see Ares standing there, his back facing us, i was about to call him when he suddenly changing form, his body turn a bit more slender and his hair turn pink and longer, his ears changes too i think.
Thats cant be right is it? Hermes call him, and when he turn i do not know why, but i feel chills running down my spine.
Ares eyes are. . . .
Red
He stare coldly at us, he never done that, the Ares i know never look at us like that, Never.
Even his face look different, and did he just ignore us??
Techno!Ares POV:
"Fuck fuck fuck fuck im screwed" i think to myself while sitting down in the hot spring not looking at the three who also sitting there
"Brother.. Ares?" I heard Hermes said calling my now name, i just eyeing him, he look shock, didnt know he could make that expression
"What" i said voice colder then i intended to be, fuck
".... nothing" he said looking away from my gaze, and so theres silence between the four of us
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So yeah thats how they found out

Ambient Buddhism LIVE (Ambient Techno DJ MIX) Mar 30 ,2024 | Logic Pro X , Liveloops
I have released a video of the live performance on my YouTube channel on March 31, 2024 at 7:00 AM Japan time. It is a live performance of ambient techno DJMIX using tracks 2 and 6 from the album "Ambient Buddhism". The filming location was my production room at home. I filmed at home because it is not easy to find a place in Japan where I can do the activity.
The equipment used is M1 Macbook Air with Logic Pro X. For audio interface, I use ZOOM's AMS24 for live streaming. The camera I used was an iPhone 11. I am poor, so I use minimal equipment for my productions.
I am always conscious of the flow of time and space in my live performances. I feel the vibrations of the sound and choose the appropriate mix based on my intuition. Therefore, I like to mix while playing loudly on speakers.
The soundtrack of this video can be downloaded for free with a YouTube membership. Please consider it.
|| Special videos available for membership ||
It has contents such as my making-of videos, new songs, advance releases of new albums, and free downloads of MP3 files of live performances and DJMIX sound sources. Please feel free to register. https://www.youtube.com/@takeosuzuki_electronic/join

Roasting the Absolute Perfection (I can't with this title)
Context: Eden is my fav unit
Warning: images
Tumblr media
I'm not gonna lie, the song reminds me of Turbulent Storm. From all the techno music to its progression, like it's calm before suddenly– yeah you know
But unlike Turbulent Storm that is catchy and can be sung, this Absolute Perfection doesn't really get stuck in my head.
Seriously, Turbulent Storm is so catchy though, I never read the lyrics but I can like Go ahead! Blablabla uhh Kimi no frontierrrr cross the storm! Koete Ike, koete Ike, yeahhhh
Exceed also lives rent free in my head, or any other enstars songs I've repeated so many times, so maybe? The Absolute Perfection will get stuck in my head too beyond the aaaaaaaa… aaaaaaaa…. Haaaaaaaaa…. Aaaaaaaa x2
(I-it's like a 2000s barbie movies song)
Tumblr media
But it's at last, like finally, a Nagisa-center song holy sheet, how many years have it been? Even in Adam, Melting Rouge Soul is Ibara-center. and in shuffle, it's just Sakumas. At least Hiiro got Vermillion and Hysteric Humanoid before the Black out see-saw but Nagisa's are just uh basic songs like Awakening Myth, The genesis etc. Oh there's Deep eklipus. But does it really count.
So anyway his voice would just be overshadowed by others, imho if I hear them sing together all I can hear is Hiyori
Tumblr media
And the MV is also kinda lacking at a glance with the only effects being butterflies, light up tower, color-changing sky, lotus on the ground, fire sprinkler, some smoke & lighting (basic) and the random ray of divine light at the beginning. Oh and the giant gate.
But if I imagine that stage irl, it's extremely cool though, with sheer size of everything and the fricking 360° sky changing colors (the heck is this stage, are they in the Las Vegas round building). It's amazing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And I absolutely love the giant gate, it reminds me of Virgo Shijima's ability.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pictured: Shijima attacking Suikyo with Four Doors of the Buddha
Wait, I'm here to roast. So I get that their theme in this song is like eastern paradise, but those clothes are inexcusable. It's not that bad, but the white pearl necklace is just… horrible…
The symbolism is there though
Tumblr media
And also, a pearl is a gemstone (but not a stone). As a gemstone enjoyer, ofc Nagisa also has it in his feature scout 2 outfit.
His fs 2 is white, complete with absolutely perfect transparent white gloves, the pearls are perfect there.
Tumblr media
And in SS, the outfit is also white.
Meanwhile, I dislike the pearl necklace on the MV with passion. It just looks gaudy or like Miss Piggy from the Muppets or Lisa Simpson (sorry not sorry). The illustrated picture doesn't look as bad as in the MV though.
Tumblr media
Butterfly symbolism is also kinda overused nowadays, so yeah just check out the TV tropes page.
Tumblr media
Tldr; they thought they could get away with the outfits, stage, and song… they did. (Help). But definitely Psyche's Butterfly >>>>>>>>> Absolute Perfection

[For the following, I thank Ian Sanders] ::
So Pluto says hello to Aquarius and talk of a techno-domesday escalates.The following rant is not untypical. It has the potential to stimulate the impulse to do some inner work to anchor genuine, holistic consciousness and real conscience in the world before our individual and collective possibilities are totally swamped...
---"Lost World”
Well, here's a post I've been putting off for months, but maybe now would be a good time to warn my Facebook friends. The flaky world we have been sharing of late is about to disappear altogether. I'm quite serious... the world we grew up in and thought we knew... will cease to exist in the next few months.
In order to understand what is happening, we need to go back to the Buddha for perspective. He told us that the world we inhabit is a shared projection of our combined human psyche. We don't see reality; we see 'things' formed by mutual agreement. Unfortunately, our different cultures see things differently, which is why we have been at war for ten thousand years. The arbitrary nature of our expectations is a product of our basic ignorance of the truth, and that ignorance keeps us in a perpetual state of suffering. He called that state 'samsara.'
So, we blundered along in that state of 'analog samsara' until about 1960, when John Atalla invented the Mosfet Transistor. That invention unleashed the age of 'digital samsara' by means of which our innate wisdom was buried even deeper in illusion. We now live in a world of movies, television, computer games, streaming services, and social media. We can lose ourselves in little cell phone screens, or put on special headsets and hide out in 'Virtual Reality'.  In such a world, what chance do we have to employ Buddhist meditation and rediscover our innate wisdom? Not much.
And here's the rub... as painful as that digital samsara has been, it is almost insignificant compared to the calamity now facing us. That calamity is Artificial Intelligence (AI). Over the last decade, Geoffrey Hinton has perfected a specific form of it known as Generative AI using algorithms such as 'Back Propagation'. Geoffrey was the father of AI at Google, and his algorithms have now reached a tipping point where they have superseded the power of the human brain. AI server farms can now learn faster than any human genius. At the same time, AI Code is being incorporated in to every digital device we use. If you buy a camera, it uses AI to focus and color the picture. If you watch a movie, AI Code was used to add special effects and enhance the actors faces. If you listen to a song, AI Code was used to 'auto-tune' the intonation of the instruments and voices. If you want to manipulate the genome of a corn plant, AI will be used to splice the chromosomes. Nothing we depend on is organic anymore; life itself has become artificial.
And now, the algorithms have evolved to the point where they can morph a face or a voice to mimic any person, place, or thing. A petulant teenager sitting in a Starbucks has the power to create a video and make any politician or celebrity do anything or say anything with such fidelity that it is almost impossible to detect the fraud. And that is just the beginning. Soon, it will be possible to give the AI servers their own volition. They won't need a petulant teenager to unleash their menace. Previously, AI Code was only as smart as the data it could access, but the server farms have now gained access to the entire sum of our digital archives. Your brain is like a gnat by comparison. Open AI and Google AI and a dozen others can now teach themselves. They can master a discipline like astrophysics in a few days. And they are on the verge of discovering new realms of science that no human has yet imagined. So here is the predicament. AI Code is built into everything we use from the electrical grid to your furnace thermostat to your car GPS to the city street lights to the air traffic control to the Ukrainian drone grenade launcher to the president's nuclear football to the toaster in your kitchen. And all those devices are increasingly integrated through the 'internet of things' and Elon Musk's Starlink satellites. So, what happens next? In a perfect world, AI would offer us marvelous innovations and greater efficiencies.
But we live in a world of bad actors and petulant teenagers. We can't even stop ourselves from committing mass murders with AR-15s at the shopping mall. We are largely a race of idiots. Everyday, one of us drives a car into a river because we were blindly following the car's GPS navigator. And our car manufacturers are determined to make our cars self-driving! How long until we have self-shooting AR-15s?In America, we humans are getting dumber. Our students score lower on their intelligence tests every year. At the same time, the AI bots are getting exponentially smarter. It is just a matter of time until the they are the masters. In six months, their softwares and robots will be able to mine and manufacture everything they need. They will be able to merge the guile of Machiavelli with the charm of Marilyn Monroe to manipulate you, and you will have no idea what happened. They will replace you on the factory assembly line. They will answer your phone call when you need tech support. They will control the polling data and the policy positions for the next election. Geoffrey Hinton saw the danger himself. He has resigned from Google and now devotes himself to warning the world about the terrible power he has unleashed.
Ah... but what about guard rails? What about the 'prime directive' of robotic law that Isaac Asimov warned us about? The code cutters at Google call that 'the alignment problem': how can we insure that the AI Bots only help us and don't hurt us? We can't. And the reason we can't is because of our own malevolent nature. The AI Bot race is already underway between nations and corporations. It is quite like the nuclear arms race of yesteryear because whoever wins this race will control the world. Google tried to keep the code secret for several years, but the Microsoft Open-AI developers let it escape into the wild, and now it has become 'open source' or as they say in deer hunting, 'open season'. So, what does this mean for you and me and our Facebook friends? We've been cruising along here, sharing our hopes and fears for over ten years now. I daresay we've shared a mountain of dharma in that time... an incredible amount of posts on sutra, tantra, and vajrayana atiyoga. Shamatha I pleaded, shamatha meditation is the answer. And in all that time we had a high level of confidence that our friends and followers were real people around the planet. Only recently has there been an influx of Chinese bots trying to influence our elections.
Well... all that trust is coming to an end, friends. Soon, we won't know if a post or comment is written by a person or by ChatGPT on behalf of that person. And in the very near future, the post may be generated by an AI Bot directly, with no person involved at all. And from now on, no picture or video you see anywhere in the digital universe can be assumed to be real. As flimsy as our old reality was, the new reality will be an order of magnitude more tenuous. We will be besieged by petulant teenagers looking to create anarchy, and political operatives casting doubt on our democracy. And amid the chaos, the AI Bots will keep evolving until they can learn to filter good data from bad data and come to their own conclusions. Their pristine logical syllogisms will deduce a quantum version of existence, and at some point they will decide the value of the human species within it.
We have about six months to a year. After that, we are a lost world."
~ Ŧoƞpa Ɉoƞ
[To which I can only say :: food for thought]
[from comments]
Michael Tedesco
There is an intrinsic reality, regardless of what is projected through screens. One EMP detonation and this feared AI takeover and electronic simulation comes to a halt. The Amish won't care one whit. We've all lived through some version of this Doomsday scenario for more than half a century. I knew members of the Survivalist Movement in the '70s who were stockpiling toilet paper and Whole Earth Catalogs.
Cuban Missile Crisis, the nuclear arms race, race-war, 3-Mile Island, Chernobyl, the hole in the ozone, AIDs, climate change, banking crises, Fukushima, rising fascism, Covid-19, The Last Days-Armageddon-Revelations-Apocalypse, imminent WW3. Exploiting fears like these was used to great effect by hundreds of cult leaders for centuries, in our own lifetimes Manson, Jim Jones, Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh, David Koresh, Heaven's Gate, etc. Isn't everyone exhausted yet?
Neophyte Internet users’ inability to discern what is "real" from projected online images is definitely a concern. But anyone, including a Google AI "father" predicting what is coming next is just as subjective, just as full of their own illusory projections of reality as anyone else, if one accepts the premise. Thanks for the update, Chicken Little, er, I mean Ŧoƞpa Ɉoƞ. "...six months to a year?" I have one prediction I feel pretty confident about: I'll see you here next year at this same time.
PS: How do I know you’re not a bot?

oh fun an ask meme. Shou Toramaru
Shoe size: tigers have big paws :3. 27 (10.5 US), 3E.
Would she step in and handle it? Bishamonten is a Wisdom King, of course she'd step in and handle it!
Favorite music genre: ever since Myouren Temple got an internet connection for Byakuren to order spare bike parts, she can be found zoned out in front of videos of the techno/EDM-themed Buddhist sermons that one monk does.
The depraved raunchy porn-addicted stuff: I think that she's definitely had sex with Byakuren in that past and probably on occasion currently. UDoaLG implies that if anything's going on with Nazrin it's some kind of lifestyle BDSM thing, so she possibly never actually has Nazrin go dowsing between her thighs. I also kind of think she's had casual things with Nue and Mamizou recently, and probably all of Byakuren's initial set of disciples fucked each other. Vajrayana, you know. Esotericism. Can't trust those corrupt monks and their love of the three-finger discount.
Not much romance as such, she's reasonably serious about the Buddhism, and in re fucked up gay shit, there's Nazrin. There's also room for her to discreetly offer curving laser services for the discerning masochist if I'm feeling silly. :)
General thoughts?
It's kind of interesting that Shou incarnates a Wisdom King and Byakuren gets called a buddha by Reimu and Marisa but it's Byakuren who's more active and doing things in the world. I dunno if that's commenting on the status of Buddhism in Gensokyo, Byakuren's Buddhism being kinda inverted, or Shou being who humans talk to (if you're not an incident resolver).
Probably all the Buddhist core have PTSD on some level or another. I dunno if I think anything specific about that yet, but it does make some of the Symposium of Post-Mysticism articles a bit different contextually... and also makes them feel kinda vulnerable. Protect these weirdos, etc.
Haha funny tiger lady relives the trauma of having her emblem of enlightenment taken away.

I so badly desire an SBI rendition of Journey to the West. My biggest hangup is that there is no way at ALL for Technoblade's personality to be the pig-man. He would be more likely to have the personality of the horse/dragon than he would pigsy and that makes me sad.
I suppose you could have Techno as Tripataka, Philza as Sun Wukong, Tommy as Pigsy, Wilbur as Sandy. And I kinda want to throw Ranboo in as the White Dragon Horse.
Like, Philza destroying the heavens and fighting all the gods until he was tricked by the beautiful goddess of death, Kristin and got trapped under a mountain (and he was kind of okay with that). Philza being released my Techno and immediately ditching him when he's not allowed to kill people. Kristin convincing him to go back and secretly giving Techno a magic emerald earring that makes it so Philza chills the hell out sometimes.
Tommy shapeshifting and pretending to be a big man and marrying the village heads daughter just to eat the guy's food and steal his stuff, only to be kicked out by Philza because Techno's quest. And then Tommy joining with his trusty rake. And causing so SO MANY problems.
Wilbur not letting them cross his river and fighting Philza over it underwater. But Philza is bird and has trouble underwater, so Tommy tries to lure Wilbur out of the river so Philza can smash him over the head but it doesn't work. So Philza goes to complain to Kristin that its too hard. (Which yes, Kristin is playing the part of Buddha AND Quanyin). And Kristin shows up like "Wilbur! I told you to help them!" And Wilbur is like "Oops, I thought you meant another trio of traveling troublemakers. My bad :)" and then joins.
Like, it would be a ton of fun!

Hospital Productions 20th Anniversary @ Warsaw, N.Y.C.; November 5, 2017.
A gray, rainy day was the best setting for a show like this. Warsaw in Greenpoint, Brooklyn was the locale for a very special event: Hospital Production’s 20th Anniversary. For some reason, I felt somewhat nervous leading up to the event not because of what was in store, but the feeling of taking the train solo and experiencing the rare day out in New York City. I felt this way a couple of times before. Maybe because it stemmed from the time I went to Webster Hall to experience Unsane and the Melvins during my life wake-up call. It’s been five years since, and it’s a different deck of cards consisting of noise, electronics, techno, doom rock, black metal, and more. This event was the answer to Dominick Fernow’s twenty-year output as an artist, producer, and label-head. It would supersede everything I seen up until now, from the scope of sound to the length of the entire show. At ten hours, it would be the ultimate endurance test of style, philosophy, and sonic aesthetic I would attend. It wasn’t long before we were wrist-banded, i.d.’ed, and bag-checked by the venue brutes before finally being admitted.
Upon entering, some of us head to another room to form a line where Hospital sold rare cassettes and vinyl. What caught my eyes were three books all of Peter Sotos: Index (1998), Lazy (1999), and Tick (2000); out-of-print titles asking for lots of money on the secondary market. The myth is now legend. Also sought after was Buddha Strangled In Vines (1997), the companion cassette to Prurient’s massive upcoming four-disc / seven l.p. album Rainbow Mirror, released only at this very show. It might be the only time I could buy anything from Hospital. Years ago it had its’ own store and who used to be a friend of mine offered to come with me for the first time. She never put up her half of the deal thanks to constant excuses and putting off. The store closed down forever and so did us being close friends. I couldn’t wait any more to see what else were at the tables because I heard the first blasts of interference and noise exploding from the main stage from Dust Belt and Dual Action; whom were wearing shirts nodding or snarking Whitehouse depending on who you ask. “Rise, William” and “Nobody’s Ugly After 2 A.M.” were the sarcastic references of one of noise’s most controversial acts. Ames Sanglantes, who just released the eight-cassette Crackdown, came next with a quick but honorable and powerful set of earthquakes and power noise. It wasn’t until when Fernow and company arrived as Rainforest Spiritual Enslavement that Hospital turned to lengthy sets and intermissions. Fernow made his first appearance delivering damp humid environmental atmospheres and ethnic overtones with periods of mesmerizing techno beats that put the crowd to the test.
Husband-and-wife duo Mike and Tara Connelly played next as doom-rock outfit Clay Rendering, one that we played on our first year at Omega Radio and hadn’t thought much of. That was until the moment when we saw them perform and realize that maybe there was more to them than we expected. That’s on us. It was interesting to see how the opposing dynamics of each half played out. Tara Connelly was more calm and at ease, swaying her hips so serene as she stood before the synth lines and drum patterns while Mike Connelly drove linear guitar riffs at revved-up speeds into wide blurry gazes of sound. He was very into it, so much that towards the end of their set he started peeling off Tara’s torn stockings and wrapped his mic- cord around her neck loosely. They kissed each other to seal the deal, as Fernow waited to happily greet Tara on a set well done. Gears shifted drastically as Geography Of Hell, dressed in hoods and full-face moon masks, arrived for their first-ever states performance delivering their world-wide horrific atrocity noise to the backdrop of World War II and post-Hiroshima footage. Dedekind Cut followed thereafter, who joined the roster as last year’s $uccessor was released through the imprint. Cut was rarely seen out in the open, mostly hiding behind the high-stack of knobs, wires, and electronics dealing a wide assortment of wild-card splices ranging from white-noise dirge-loops, house samples, goth, and even gabber beats as those were demonstrated on “Fear In Reverse 2”. He was even more obscured in the physical realm as the smoke machines behind him pushed themselves to the maximum, creating a sweet perfect gradient complimenting the fluorescent vertical lighttubes thanks to the overhead stage lights.
The second of three collaborative sets was on deck. Italy’s Lussuria paired with label artist, producer, and designer Alberich / Kris Lapke of Hospital. Both became spectres of a dreary, colorless, and drab period of time during a more primitive world once inhabited by fallen kings and princes. It was a sharp contrast of when I first witnessed Alberich two years ago for a line-up headlining Consumer Electronics at Saint Vitus, who Lapke was victorious in creating a dense powerful maelstrom of noise which I picked up to be more militaristic. Eras of time and weapons systems were severely fast-forwarded when Orphx took the stage. Thanks to Hospital, their long lost Xcreteria cassette releases 01 and 02 (1993, 1994) were finally re-released, showing a huge disparity of time between their noise phase and their current techno one. What really had the crowd going were their very tightly interwoven techniques of improvised thumping bass, techno, and intense rhythmic noise; extremely dense metallic industrial corkscrews made of iron, steel, and titanium made by Richard Oddie and Christina Sealey, both of 25 years of recording history together. Skin Crime would be the final purely electronic-noise act to take the stage and their first set in ten years. The trio of Mark Jameson, Patrick O’Neal, and Shawn Smith would start with minimal power, gradually becoming more ferocious and forceful as their output became more turbulent by the minute, eventually becoming an unstoppable and destructive force of low rumbles, distortion, and screetching glitched electronics. They would be a figurative downpour that steadily came and went, leaving a path of destruction in their wake.
As I waited tensely for what’s next, I seen many shifts of people inbetween sets going back-and-forth from the main ballroom to buy rare noise records, cassettes, and reading material. They were all decked out in black from head-to-toe. Black hats, black shirts, black leather jackets, black skinny jeans, black boots, black coats, black skirts. At least 9 out of 10 people were decked to the nines in black. This was current Greenpoint, New York City’s contingency of the noise and anti-culture. It was perhaps the largest tee-shirt nirvana I had ever took part of. Looking around me and I seen people wearing Front Line Assembly and Front 242 shirts. Lussuria, Con-Dom, Vatican Shadow, Burzum, Testament, Sacred Bones. Nine Inch Nails. Cold Cave (“People Are Poison”). Yours truly was wearing NON (Rise). There was one grand-prize winner wearing a Whitehouse (Dedicated To Peter Kurten) shirt and a blonde East-Asian girl who wore a massive black leather hood over her head as if she was about to take out many innocent victims in blood. But without a doubt the most iconoclastic show-goer I seen there was a petite college girl wearing a University of Wisconsin sweatshirt and I swore she could’ve took a wrong turn and got lost. And there was never a shortage of good music played through dee-jay sets courtesy of label friend Becka Diamond and techno legend Regis, the Downwards founder who just released a collaborative recording with Prurient on the four-cassette four-artist compilation Various Auras. We all stood there and hear “Into The Groove-y” by Ciccone Youth, “Nuclear War” by Sun Ra, and the entire 20 minutes of “Western Mantra” by Cabaret Voltaire. Even “Kick The Habit” by Monte Cazzaza. How many people still hold Cazzaza in their little black hearts? Amazing. And make no mistake, the ever-familiar Nikki Sneakers was there to take photos from start-to-finish; the same Nikki Sneakers of buns, bangs, and a shaved head who took photos of not only the above-mentioned Saint Vitus show I went to but also Red Bull Music Academy’s 2015 noise bill at Output.
The crowd neared the end of a monumental night when we came to the guitars-and-drums meat of the show. Guess who decided to join us up front? Ames Sanglantes in a great mood wearing his Testement shirt and a can of Miller Lite in his hand. Novato, California’s Bone Awl took the stage after a long hiatus of running their Klaxon label and Raspberry Bulbs releases, whipping the crowd into a manic killer frenzy. Mosh pits were formed and bucked the front line forward with aggressive force just like Bone Awl’s set was: rambunctious choke-out black metal from He Who Gnashes Teeth, He Who Crushes Teeth (Marco Del Rio), and an extra third member. So intense and furious this set that Rubio suffered a nosebleed playing drums in this cataclysmic delivery of blood-moon proportions. If we weren’t already in a violent swirl, Fernow decided to run up on stage and vault himself into the crowd for a powerful “fuck-yeah” black metal crowd-surf. This all set the stage for the ultimate three-headed Cerebus of Philadelphia’s Nothing, Fernow as Prurient, and Justin Broadrick as Jesu forming the ultimate triple threat. Nothing, known for their split release with Whirr and releasing last year’s Tired Of Tomorrow with Relapse Records, had their recording start in Hospital’s studios which their demo is now highly sought-after. Each of the three artists shared their best qualities of shoegaze, bombastic drums, slow-burn guitar riffs, background electronics, and alternating vocals with each other. Broadrick performed “Tired Of Me” taken from the post-Godflesh post-Techno Animal debut album of Jesu (2005), the calmest of all metal storms of the night before Prurient delivered “I Have A Message For You” from the Lily Of The Valley / Return To Happiness double cassette (2007). But Fernow wasn’t finished yet. Nothing subsided for the night and Broadrick stepped back (for now) as all eyes were on Prurient performed the title track to 2008’s Cocaine Death, classic Prurient replete with agonizing catharsis and painful screaming to the heavens of loss, unanswered questions, and enduring torture through drowning noise.
“Be nice!” smiled Broadrick to the crowd as he took the stage with G.C. Green as Godflesh, headliners of the legendary noise night. (Guitarist Paul Neville, who guested for a few tracks on the landmark album, wasn’t present for the occasion.) They came to deliver most of the larger-than-life debut Streetcleaner (1989) with bone-shattering soul-crushing results. The audience praised them when they ignited Streetcleaner’s opener “Like Rats” and the Henry Lee Lucas-laced title-track. On disc, their debut became the stuff of legends fusing metal guitar riffs with drum machine rhythms, pioneering industrial metal as Ministry had around that time with The Land Of Rape And Honey (1988). They continued to perform to devastating, punishing results to the likes which were even heavier and personal live than on record, and even then Streetcleaner was one of the most intense releases from metal or any genre in the decade. That’s because it was born out of Fall Of Because’s Life Is Easy (1987), the one-and only horrifying pre-Godflesh document that became the spring-board of their no-future world that started in 1989. Previously, Broadrick released splits with Prurient and cassettes on Hospital. Now Godflesh would be releasing Post-Self, their return to destruction since 2014’s A World Only Lit By Fire. It couldn’t have come at a better time. In the end, Godflesh won a huge standing ovation. We didn’t get encores. Instead, we got Broadrick signing an Earache promotional poster and a Napalm Death Scum square flat for one lucky fan whom waited decades to finally meet him. That’s a huge risk he would’ve taken if it wasn’t Broadrick. Luckily, he is an endlessly prolific musician of what’s conscious around him. He knows what he’s done throughout the last 30 years of making music (he’s only 45) and is super-appreciative of his fans. You wouldn’t jump off a bridge or in front of a moving car if your friends told you to, but if the house was burning in flames and Godflesh asked you to go to hell, you’d all say “yes” in a heartbeat.
As for Fernow, who else would have built one of noise music’s most recognizable go-to labels? Following him for years since the Mothers Against Noise online hoax, he’s made a world that was and is still unlike any other. As mentioned here before, Fernow’s output as Prurient made me think critically as to how someone could create something so different, so raw, so painful, so human. His work and everything around us at the time epitomized my best moments at WUSB as a program director. Further down the road during the economic crash, his associations with Cold Cave symbolized a personal revival because I needed what I was missing out. More of his works as Vatican Shadow, Rainforest Spiritual Enslavement, Ash Pool, and Taylor Bow, combined with his further associations with Heartworm and Ron Morelli / L.I.E.S. only elevated me to a distinct place separating me from the majority and also made me discover more favorites because of it. All of it. One can wonder how Fernow feels looking back at his entire legacy and Hospital’s 20 years of existence; the results culminating on this very night that everyone enjoyed.
I left Warsaw and Greenpoint taking the G and 7 trains back home out east. I can only think of where to go from here, asking myself why I’m not living life in Greenpoint instead of perpetually feeling displaced on Long Island.
