What caused you to start writing? What was your key point?

My best friend had done it for roughly a year and it just looked interesting to me. The idea of creating a whole person was so intriguing, and soon after finding the unpredictability of what chemistry you could have with muns and muses both ic and ooc was so much fun also. I'm so glad I did too bc I've met some of my absolute favorite people through writing.

How do you create an OC? What are your steps for developing an OC?

It's varied over the years, but my most recent process is find a faceclaim I'd like to use and kind of build around the vibes I get from their gif packs. Sometimes if I get muse for a character I'll build them in my mind before putting a face with them, but that's more rare.

What are your favorite ships on here (feel free to tag?)

Omg there's honestly so many but I'm gonna try to narrow it as best I can, but I'll preface that I truly do love them all. I'll start with my older writing partners before moving on to some of my favorite newer ones ♡

@fadinglights || while I truly do love all of our babies (esp Trace & Jia and Jules & Blu), Rivy just has a special place in my heart. I never imagined that the simple plot post we got them from would develop to all we have with them, but I'm so happy it has 🥲

@scftlightz || listen we've had a myriad of muses and I adore each one of them sm. We've talked about how we've had amusing and emotional threads and more, and I love that I can throw pretty much anyone your way and you'll accept them wholeheartedly. Maybe it's a slight bias though, but Keith and Ruby sit so high at the table and I just love them the more we write them ❤️

@jaillir-des-etincelles || I haven't written on this account with this wonderful lady just yet, but she's one of my longest writing partners. Every ship we've written has had amazing chemistry, but our og one will always be one of my absolute favorites. Lexicus started in a group rp I'm not even sure how long ago, and they still give me feels to this day 🥰

@tearfest || /technically cemeterysgirl since it involves Sasha but still. As we've said with them early on, the chemistry is chemistrying with them to the point that I think they do it themselves at this point 🤷‍♀️ It's so fun writing them and it gives me a new perspective of Trace that I haven't written before and I love it

@ameliiorate || we haven't written too much just yet, but I love the chemistry that Haneul and Star are already having. I look forward to Dilan and Theo, too, but I feel I'll love them too if the prior ship is any indicator 😉

@inkshadow || and last one of the newer ones, it's not a ship that we've flushed out too much just yet, but I've really enjoyed writing between Duri and Bella so far. There's something about their juxtaposition that is so intriguing to me and makes me excited for what they have to come 💕

march is marching on so its housekeeping timeeee. honestly there isn't much that needs saying in my little Notes section of this month's housekeeping - last month was just... pretty quiet for me creatively and very noisy in my irl life hahaha. because of this i wasn't as productive writing wise as i wanted to be in february, BUT that's okay. it's a short month and sometimes life just keeps coming at you fast. overall my objective is to be more consistent and present, which seem like more sustainable approach for me rather than focusing on accruing a bunch of posts + interactions. my primary goal (detailed below) is to start more threads, but in tandem with that, my hope for march is to keep tuned in to the happenings of the group both ic and ooc, better than i was able to last month at least. i think doing so will help me continue towards a workable foundation for cater's ic presence in the directory's goings ons. •ᴗ• goals + progress under the cut!  ↷

#MANIFESTING.

in terms of keeping up with my writing goals last month, i wasn't super productive. i did for some reason prioritize and achieve my monthly stretch goal of finishing the stamp card, which honestly was a fun push on feb 28th when i remembered i wanted to do that kdfgkhfg. this month, i'm going to try to be more consistent with checking off the stamps. i did not manage to honour my goal of starting more threads + getting a starter call out. soooo, this month, my primary goal remains curation of more threads so i'm not just relying on one (1) for my activity every month. getting started is so intimidating to me for some reason but like... gotta do it ♡ i think i'll try to begin with an open starter and go from there bc idk how to start plotting otherwise lol. i was able to get through [2/5] of the memies symbol headcanon prompts, which i'm going to count as a win. i still have three that are being steadily drafted & queued, so finishing and sharing those by the month's end is hopefully in the stars as my secondary goal for march. nothing to report progress wise on the [3] additional meta/headcanon posts i mentioned in last month's housekeeping - i'm still ticking away at my cater thoughts and figuring out how i want to present them. they're technically still my tertiary goal, but i don't imagine i'll finish + share them until april unless i really start cranking out posts kahdfghkfg...

I got bored so, i decided to make this, with some of these i use the word “unpopular” lightly 

i love all the archeron sisters 

nesta is my favorite archeron sister

i love feyre on her own and w/ rhys however, i do think acosf did her dirty at times

speaking of acosf...feysand was done dirty in this book. like what was the point of putting them through more emotional turmoil, especially feyre. it also went back on both feyre and rhys character decisions made in maf and war (im not saying that were acting ooc though) feysand deserved a peaceful pregnancy, which couldve happened in the background while nesta’s story still happened. 

which leads me to my next point, nesta deserved to not have her story be overshadowed by that shit baby plot 

the intervention scene should’ve only been nesta and her sisters 

my favorite characters are nesta, rhys, gwyn, honorable mentions are lucien, eris, cassian and feyre

this is probably rlly unpopular after acosf but my favorite bat boy is still rhys

azriel is my least favorite of the bat boys 

i dont think tamlin is a bad person and id like to see him get better for himself and others. i think he should get an arc

technically all the acotar characters are morally grey (well maybe except gwyn, emerie and tarquin..lucien too i guess)

i know there’s debates on whether rhys can be considered one but I think he is. the issue is sjm wrote the acotar world very black and white. sometimes she picks and chooses when her characters are allowed to be morally grey and this happens a lot with rhys (honestly with tamlin and nesta..etc. practically where we see odd double standards) this honeslty does a disservice to rhys’s character and the others as well

i’m not saying that tamlin didnt abuse feyre because he did but it’s pretty clear that he gets over demonized a bit

rhys may be one of my favs but im fully aware that he’s been abusive at times and isnt not a perfect character (clearly). i dont think he was ever meant to be technically.

i feel like a lot of the male characters trauma gets swept under the rug. (Lucien, Rhys, Cassian and even Tamlin) idk about azriel yet tbh

for some reason im obsessed with vassa and jurian..honestly the band of exiles in general. i cant wait to see more of them

i hope elain ends up with lucien and the band of exiles

i know a lot of ppl hate the idea of nesta or gwyn getting to some degree with rhys but i think it’ll be good for him bc they’d give it too him straight (maybe even elain tbh)

you know how cassian and feyre have special friendship as well as nesta and azriel...i’d like to see that with rhys and someone (most likely gwyn, i think she makes more sense than elain..plus they have more in common)

im not anti any characters. i like all of them but ill still call them out on their shit when warranted 

my least favorite character in general is amren tho

the most believable friendships in the IC are the bat boys (rhys, cassian and azriel) and cassian and feyre (maybe feyre and mor)

i do think azriel and rhys are in a rough patch atm tho (doesnt mean that they dont love each other tho)

id like to see feyre make friends outside of the IC (im not saying that mor has been terrible to her but she should branch out)

the valkyries definitely have a healthier full group

is extremely convinced that you hate coffee, except when he orders his own and all of a sudden it tastes better out of his straw, same rule applies to every food he orders apparently, so he just makes it a habit to order a bigger iced coffee to share with you.

neither of you know how to drive, but thats okay !! he'll take you driving anyways as you both try to avoid the cops, a hand on the steering wheel and the other rubbing circles on the back of your hand. you're doing a terrible job at staying low, head peering out the window to watch everything light up at night, although it could get you both caught. he should probably pay attention to the road, but how could he when you look so pretty under the glow of passing streetlamps?

both of you should probably be banned from the grocery store as yuuji tries his best to haul you into the shopping cart before you can start buying snacks. he's constantly reassuring you that "its fine!! they cant kick us out if we're buying snacks" and you really cant argue with a smile that pretty !! so you let him push you on a giant shopping cart, even if you're only buying a few things, he's having fun knocking the wind out of you. itadori would probably try to run with the cart and jump onto it too. you both somehow manage to get away without the manager yelling at you this time !!

this is the fifth time you've watched this movie, and sometimes you have to beg her to watch something else for movie night, and even if she does change it, you both SOMEHOW gravitate back to it anyways, not that she's complaining. you both sit in a mess of blankets, two mugs of hot chocolate abandoned on the coffee table, and despite your objections, you're still crying by the end of the movie ( she's crying too so it cancels out !! math !! )

staring contests at the foot of your bed, his collar tugged down as you struggle to contain your laughter, tackling you when he's about to lose. he has never won any of these unspoken contests, but technically you haven't either so it's still fair play !! he refuses to get off of you, even when you're giggling and pushing him off.

constantly blows up your phone, be it through your messages or airdropping random memes and pictures to your laptop while you're working to try and make you laugh, or to get you to pay attention to him. sometimes, he will go as far as to lay his head in the crook of your neck and attempt to drag you away from your work.

maki.

attempting to put together your new bedframe without looking at instructions because they were in a different language, you flip through the booklet that came in the box while she tries to find the correct screw ( or is it a bolt? ) neither of you have done it before, but its fun trying.

forcing you to go out for a walk early in the morning, sometimes to train, sometimes to go to the convenience store because neither of you want to cook breakfast. if you decide to buy groceries while you're there, maki will never let you carry them back, even if they're heavy, no you cant argue with her.

character in general: i have not gotten to meet all of them yet so for now, i will comment on the ones that i have the privilege of interacting with- so first, jay!! what a guy....honestly, he feels very balanced to me, based on what i’ve seen of him not just in his interactions with mana and patrick, but also in his interactions with hyuk and yuna!! i love that even though he is an idealist, a romantic ( henceforth the phrase lover boy JFKLSDJFL ) at heart, he’s no fool. he’s completely aware that people suck... a lot at times. his past would make him aware of that and while he has every reason to be a cynic, he still chooses NOT to be and you write that so wonderfully 🥲 and then misaki!! i love her so much too- how she’s rebelling against her mother’s expectations for her, how she lives in the fast lane of life an yet?? she gets along so well with lam AND IT’S KINDA HILARIOUS bc since she resembles robin in A LOT of ways, she would technically be one of the last kinds of ppl lam would consider letting into his circle again...and yet here they are 🥲 how they play them: this bled into the previous section, but i think the backstories of xia’s ocs are always so nuanced and again, BALANCED....none of them can be defined by an archetype because they?? already have sides of them that lie out of those archetypes....i also just love the overall emotional maturity and intelligence of all of xia’s ocs display ( but also xia also has herself )....like seriously, you would be surprised with how many muses i’ve encountered that don’t ( which is not a bad thing the very least, except for that it usually bleeds into the mun’s behavior often too *sighs* )- for me, at least, that kind of maturity allows dynamics where both parties will benefit!! the mun: xia, you are always SUCH a joy to see on my dash- i love seeing your comments, whether they’re ooc or ic, on not just my posts, but also other people’s posts as well...you’re also just a very down-to-earth and chill person  which is ALWAYS a plus in my book ^^ i adore not just interacting with you, but also just seeing you interact with your other partners and how you both support and encourage them ooc and ic- i hope we can write and be mutuals for a long time to come <3

what sort of rp are you meaning?

style wise? semi-literate to literate paragraph rp in discord! I would give you my username there. I used to do more text based rp than I do now, but I'm looking to get back into it.

as far as settings and characters I'm interested in largely fantasy or otherwise fantastical settings & I prefer to play (sentient) nonhuman characters, if that helps! I am a huge D&D nerd and I like playing that kind of character. canon characters/places or totally original universes are both good but I prefer Original. I'm open to both lighthearted and more serious settings as well!

boundaries & technical things : I am 23 so I prefer 21+, but 18+ is ok too. I require a lot of discussion prior to nsfw content but I will rp it occasionally. most of my rps take place in private servers bc I think they're ideal for that sort of thing (multiple channels for ooc and ic chat, etc).

my reply length varies but tends to be between 1-4 paragraphs & I have been rping in various capacities for over a decade, but I don't need people to have that much experience it's all good either way! as long as we both have fun. :3c

I would like to call shenanigans about the complaints of Phineas being "out-of-character" in the specials and movies. He's a kid! And human! It makes his character more interesting and three-dimensional! He's allowed to be sad or mad when he's out of his comfort zone! I mean, everyone else is allowed to have a wide range of emotions, and it makes it all the more satisfying when he manages to pull through and go back to being his usual positive self

SAY IT LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK

I’m about to get real salty for a second (not at the show tho I’m getting salty at people who get salty at the show) so here’s a cut 

Nothing annoys me more than people who think Phineas had no reason to get upset in at2d. Literally one of the last things 2D Doof said to him before Perry revealed that he was a secret agent was, and I quote, “You really think that he’s your pet, don’t you? WRONG! He’s using you! He’s just your cover!” Of course he was going to internalize that!

And that’s not just speculation, either. As soon as they get a moment to talk without the constant fear of, you know, getting arrested by an evil dictator’s robots, Phineas straight up asks him, “Was that evil guy right? Were we just a cover for you? Were you ever really our pet, or part of our family?” AND THEN HE HAS THE AUDACITY TO BREAK MY HEART BY FOLLOWING THAT UP WITH “Well, apparently not, because you didn’t trust us enough to tell us!” Like? 2D Doof’s words overshadowed the entire reveal. Of course that was going to impact how Phineas reacted to it, and it blows my mind that people think he should have just accepted it with a smile like nothing happened. 

And that’s not even getting into the fact that Perry got them into that mess in the first place. I don’t even think I can say it better than Phineas so I’m gonna use another quote from the movie because I am apparently writing an actual angry essay right now with evidence from the text movie lmao. When they’re still at DEI and Heinz clarifies that he’s an evil scientist, Phineas turns on Perry and says, “You just sat there and let us help an evil scientist open an evil portal into an evil dimension, and you did nothing to stop us?” (With, of course, the caveat that yes, Perry peed on the couch, but “That wasn’t enough!”)

~~ taking a brief break from angry ranting in the middle of the night to add that I definitely don’t think Perry was in the wrong here. I’ve just spent a lot of time thinking about at2d because a) I’ve seen it so many times and practically have it memorized (thus why I threw in all these quotes off the top of my head lol) and b) I’m writing a fic where Perry can talk (it’s Bitch Shut The Fuck Up on Wattpad and AO3 if anyone’s in the mood for sassy, swearing Perry) and I’m going to start incorporating episodes once summer starts in the fic so I lowkey spent most of my nights in bed thinking about what Perry’s going to say and how it would change things if he could explain himself and would he even try to or would he let the kids think he betrayed them if he thought it would keep them safe so anyways I have a lot of feelings but tl:dr Phineas has ever reason to be upset and I don’t blame him and neither should you ~~

And then, of course, there’s the Marvel crossover and, like, he was right? He was 100% right? Candace was too star struck to help, and it was too important for them to take any risks. And you make a really good point with your comment about being out of his comfort zone. I don’t think there’s ever a time that Phineas is more out of his league than in the Marvel crossover. He really is just a kid, and he only got roped into this because he just happened to put his space station in the wrong place at the wrong time and the Avengers made the wrong assumptions. The fate of the entire world depended on them, and when Candace repeatedly messed things up, Phineas had every right to be upset -- and the fact that he was undoubtedly really stressed out because, again, the fate of the entire world, only gives him more of a reason to snap. It’s not out of character; his character had just never dealt with anything like that before.

I mean, of course, there’s Phineas and Ferb Save Summer, which I think was a more mild example of Phineas getting angry, but it’s similar enough to the Marvel crossover that I feel like I need to bring it up, if only to point out the differences. In the Marvel crossover, the world was actively being threatened by a group of actual supervillains. In PnF Save Summer, technically LOVEMUFFIN is also threatening the safety of the world by trying to plunge it into an eternal ice age, but Phineas doesn’t know that which is half the fun of the episode. Like, they don’t know why they can’t move the planet back into place, just like LOVEMUFFIN doesn’t know why they can’t move it further away.

That’s not really the point here, though; that’s just me having unnecessary opinions on everything. I don’t really view this one as Phineas snapping, but Buford does make that joke about how it must be a special episode because Phineas is yelling at his sister again so I’m guessing there are probably people who think it’s ooc which means naturally I gotta bring it up (and, of course, I wanted to reference the meta joke because I love it). 

Phineas built those thrusters. He knows how they work better than probably anyone but Ferb. When Candace says she’s going to overwork them, of course Phineas is going to tell her not to, and he’s going to be urgent about it, but he doesn’t yell. And when Candace accidentally ruins the thrusters, Phineas doesn’t yell at her then, either; he just tells her how to fix it (and, when she’s too scared to go into the attic, his hologram is there to cheer her on). It’s just? So? Wholesome? And “wholesome” is basically Phineas’s entire character, so that fits really well.

And the only other one I can think of off the top of my head is Summer Belongs To You (and it’s entirely possible he’s supposedly “out of character’ in other specials too but it’s 11:20 at night and my brain is fried lmao). “Get on the trike!” is literally one the most iconic lines in the show. Even Dan said it’s one of his favorites because it wasn’t necessarily a funny line, it was funny because it was Phineas saying it, and the fact that so many people remembered it was that it seemed so out-of-place coming from Phineas, which meant they had developed the character well (and if anyone happens to have the video -- I think it might have been an old tiktok but there have been way too many for me to look through -- hmu bc it was such a pure moment). But tbh even though the yelling was “out of character” in the sense that it made for a good joke, I don’t think his actions were out of character at all? Phineas sets crazy goals all the time, and he always achieves them. They’d put so much work into it so far, and he wasn’t going to let it go to waste when the end game was right there. He was exhausted, presumably both physically and mentally (I mean, we didn’t see him sleep at all, you know?) and he wanted to get home and he wanted to accomplish his goal and he wanted to do it as a family (because 🎵 friends are also family 🎵) and he wasn’t going to let Candace ruin that, which I personally think is adorable because technically Candace was never even part of the bet and she didn’t have to make it home with them for them to win so Phineas easily could have ditched her and made her find her own way home but he wanted her to see it through with them and I just have a lot of feelings 😭

OKAY last paragraph because I know no one really cares and it’s getting late and I have an 8:30 class tomorrow and should probably be in bed by now. I also like the point you made about how that makes it more satisfying when he  manages to pull through and go back to being his usual positive self. I don’t know if anyone considers it out of character given that it’s really supposed to be a powerful moment purely because it’s so out of the ordinary (although I guess I could say the same for all these scenes) but god, when Phineas breaks down on the island in Summer Belongs To You, it’s such a testament to his character because he had managed to push through so much because he was determined to get home but it also proves that he does have a breaking point. I mean, we see it in all the other scenes, too, but those are directed at people. This is purely situational, which I think hits harder and it’s why that was the first one I thought of when you mentioned pushing through. All these scenes are a testament to his character, really, and basically the moral of the story is that I completely agree with you, Phineas deserves to have his character explored as much as Candace and Heinz have theirs explored, and that I clearly have way too many opinions and should really learn to tone it down fjksdhfjka

5 THINGS YOU LOVE ABOUT YOUR CHARACTER.

ONE He radiates that bastard energy that apparently I’m attracted to.  TWO The Remake really gave more depth to his character, especially when combined with the other Compilation materials.  I’m not gonna lie, I was amused by him in Advent Children, and I do think by the time that rolls around he’s chilled out a great deal.  I consider Before Crisis part of my canon for this blog, and I think that that version of him, Remake, and AC do fit together.  Remake is the worst part of his timeline, and he’s much more high-strung and vengeful than he was prior to Verdot’s disappearance, and to Rufus taking over.  Remake shows that he does have a conscience, even if he’s forced to ignore it, and it makes his desire to atone in AC that much more powerful. THREE  His relationships with the other characters., and how he sees the other Turks as his family.  I love his interactions with Rude and how Remake has expanded on that, and how BC shows him as sort of the big brother of the Turks.  There are some people he gets along with very well, and others... It just won’t happen.  He does have a good side, and it’s possible to get on it.  It just takes a bit of effort. FOUR HIS LAUGH. FIVE Though we’re given more to work with thanks to Remake, there’s still a lot that I can develop.  He hasn’t been given a canon backstory so it’s fun to delve into that, along with imagining how his relations with the rest of Shinra.  He has the potential to be a much more complex character than originally portrayed, and I love the chance to explore that.

Fitz comes across as very confident and in control, and at ease in his skin. The truth couldn’t be farther from it. He works hard to put forward the easy front he does --- and some days he can’t tell which one is more real. He has a dishonest smile that masquerades as honest, and a tendency to manipulate those around him when necessary to shed suspicion off himself. He can be almost charming at times, at least extremely amiable. Despite all this, Fitz is not rash or impulsive -- in fact everything he does is carefully calculated, though he goes to great lengths so it does not come across as so. — fitz was born to up and coming spanish actress reyna alvarez in chicago. the result of a messy one-night stand, but reyna ultimately decided to keep the baby. he is indeed named after fitzwilliam darcy from pride and prejudice bc his mother’s first breakout role was in a film adaptation of the book and she loved the book after reading it. how unfortunate for him.

— his birth father was never in the picture, but the man he would come to know as his father came into the picture a year or so after his birth. already one of the top architects in north america, paul robert phenix was in chicago for a conference and he and reyna fell in love. fitz has been told it’s was all very romantic. so then the happy family moved to pittsburgh where his father’s architecture firm was based.

— despite growing up with two parents who raked in a fair amount of cash, they made sure nothing was just given to fitz. they’d both had their humble beginnings and big believers in tough love, they made sure not to spoil their son. they did however make sure he was sheltered from the media when it poked around and the two things they did pay for without question were his education and sports.

— he started playing hockey when he was six after seeing a pens game on tv while they were out at dinner and knowing he just had to do it --- and never stopped. he got recruited to the us national team development program when he was sixteen and spent his last two years of high school in michigan living with a billet family most do who are with the program, which gave him a huge sense of “normalcy.” but really he was far from normal, his development taking great steps over those two years leading up to his draft year.

— queue the cale ma/kar career claim lads aka all the hockey development & logistics u can probably skip if u don’t care laksdjf: 

 one year before graduation and a draft, he vocally committed to playing at university of massachusetts - amherst. he went fourth overall to the la kings in the 2017 draft ( yeah technically irl that pick belonged to the avs but sh ), and proceeded to remain loyal to his commitment and play two years at umass despite his new top five prospect status. he was put into a first pair role from the start of his freshman year ( 2017-18 ), was a huge part in bringing the umass team up from the bottom of the standings. he plays for team usa in world juniors 2017 and 2018.

his sophomore year ( 2018-19 ), they make it all the way to the frozen four. fitz gets announced as the hobey baker winner and the day after they get knocked out of the tournament. not long after that he signs his entry contract with the kings and finishes out the season with them. he scores his first nhl goal on his first shot in game 3 of the first round of playoffs irl the kings don’t make playoffs but again shh. they get knocked out in the first round and fitz goes home and trains harder than ever.

he come back to kings training camp the next season ( 2019-20 ) more determined than ever to make the team. he does so out of camp and has an incredible rookie campaign. he gets injured in december and misses a few games but is back mid-january. fitz is given the calder ( award that goes to the best rookie in the nhl ) at the end of the season. technically cale hasn’t won this yet but we all know he will.

— la is a bustling city and fitz is a fan of one night stands : he just doesn’t feel like he has time for a relationship and hookups scratch that itch. he’s not an asshole about it, really. there is typically that understanding that this is a one time, no strings attached thing. but this one girl he sleeps with in march obviously does not get this memo and continues to not get the memo. she starts seriously stalking him in the following months and eventually he gets a restraining order against her ( use ur imagination kids ). he’s not really comfortable staying in his own apartment downtown for the time being though after he still sees her around. he stays with a teammate until the season ends, which then brings us to his connection to tercet court.

— paul robert phenix, now world reknowned architect, had a hand in designing several of the homes on tercet court, including one in the style of old money spanish mediterrianian villas that he designed with his wife in mind to be their new home. fitz’s mother had loved the house and moved in for a few years after the court opened but with her taking fewer roles up in the movie industry and getting exceedingly more lonely, she decided to embrace the more nomadic livestyle of her husband and moved out about a year and a half ago. since then the home stood vacant ( though certainly still cared for by several paid landscapers and maids ) until fitz’s dilemma arose a few months ago.

— a few phone calls and a begrudging agreement to pay the extremely steep taxes on the place for the year ( again, tough love and fitz may be a pro-athlete but he’s still making less than a million a year with his entry level contract ), and fitz moved in about two months ago ( say mid-may ).

MISC

— tri-lingual. father is french-canadian and his mother is spanish. needless to say he grew up a little confused. that worked itself out soon enough though. uses he uses quebois french in-season kind of frequently to talk to a couple teammates. really only uses his spanish to talk to his mother and family.

— since moving in fitz has filled the mansion with plants. he absolutely does not seem like a plant guy but he is... absolutely loves it. his major at umass was kinesology bc he thought it would be the most helpful and knew he wasn’t going to graduate but he snuck in some out-of-major classes on horticulture. truly just likes plants a lot. they don’t judge him.

— probably set up his own puck shooting pad in the backyard. why not there’s enough space. he had to retrieve a couple pucks from the bottom of the pool though which has been good incentive to not miss the net lmao. he also has revamped one of the rooms in the house to have synthetic ice.

— runs in the morning before it gets hot. skates a few days of the week in the afternoon. home gym in the house is definitely a perk but he prefers to work out with others because it feels more productive.

— probably drives like. a range rover.

— offensive defenseman. likes to jump up in the rush and is good at break out passes as well as zone entry. earned his place quarterbacking the first powerplay towards the end of the season. he can be quite physical when he needs to be though and don’t ever go after his goalie. — he’s not a recluse by any means, but he has no desire to built connections in tercet court so probably hasn’t actively reached out. they’re likely to have met outside of the small community or if your character forcibly came and introduced themselves. or if they knew each other already mayhaps??

HOW I RUN MY BLOG.

SPEED: I’m not a speedy RPer tbh. If I’m really pumped about a current thread and my partner and I are both online replying, I might shoot back and forth, but generally it takes days to weeks to put out my replies to any given thread. I have a job irl--and I 100% treat this as a hobby and don’t want to let it stress me out by writing with people who expect me to reply instantly--otherwise I would just stop.

REPLIES: I prefer mid-length to long threads (not novella level tho), especially with partners who I’m rather comfortable/familiar writing with. I tend to enjoy exploring what my character is thinking and feeling, so one-line dialogues can be fun to quickly develop a rapport between two characters for an initial meeting or a little side-thread to enjoy a ship dynamic...but for threads that I’m really going to be interested in and want to reply to most, they are the plotted ones that are multiple paragraphs. Single or two paragraphs are my regular mid-length threads.

STARTERS:  I will write a starter for anyone who I’ve plotted one out with, or by request/call without much plotting if I’m familiar enough with their muse that I know how I would want to set up a plausible meeting with them and Tinker Bell. If I’m not quite familiar with a character I might be less inclined to write a starter and rather my partner writes one for us to begin with. And I treat starters written for me with priority!!!

If somebody makes me a starter and I don’t reply to it within a few days--unless I’m not replying to anything in which case I’m low activity at the time like right now lowkey--LET ME KNOW. Writing a starter someone asked for and it being never answered is very frustrating and a way to make me quickly lose interest in RPing with someone, so I never want to do that to anyone else. (Weirdly, I care way more about ignored starters than dropped threads. Like if you drop a thread I’ll probably forget about it, but I never forget who liked my starter calls and didn’t answer the starter I gave them....)

INBOX: Always open for IC & OOC memes from my memes tag. Always open for IC & OOC questions for/about my muse! I don’t reply to everything immediately honestly. I’ll reblog some memes and not answer all of them, but then go back later when I’m feeling the inspiration again to get to them. It’s not my primary/preferred method of starting RPs, so not my first concern to answer--but if my partners want to continue them into threads, that’s also kind of what they’re for!! I answer them more as jumping off points to reply to rather than little drabbles of my characters reaction. So I’m always willing to turn them into threads, never hesitate. Assume it’s a go.

SELECTIVITY: Not super selective. I consider myself semi-selective because I’m technically open to RPing with non-mutuals--but at this point I basically follow back every blog that looks decent (not full of OOC and un-cut posts, has about/rules page that’s not just a link to a wiki page) whether I know the muse or not, so that tends to be all the ppl I’m willing to thread with anyway.

(I’m still not mutuals-exclusive because I can imagine a situation where maybe I enjoy an RPer’s style and am interested in their character and writing with them, but they regularly reblog stuff that I don’t like. I’m not bothered to thread with them even tho we’re not mutuals, bc I’m just here for the writing rather than following their inspo posts lmao)

WISHLIST: My wishlist tag is here, but instead of scrolling through it...My wishlist is honestly just finding RPers whose writing really clicks with mine so I find it easy and relaxing to reply to threads with them, instead of trying to force myself and get stressed for not being able to make it flow when this should just be for fun? There are ppl who I really want to write with, whose blogs/muses I like, and who I enjoy talking to OOC, but then when I actually get to our threads I’m like....eh, idk what to say here. And others who I want to have a hundred threads with because every time I go to reply, it just comes easily and I’m inspired.

+ Our characters have interesting dynamics and plots, potentially we ship our muses so I can squeal over them! It’s not something I can exactly just point at and say “who wants to do this specific plot with me?” It’s like, once you find a good partner, keep expanding your verse, your muses’ relationship, your plot ideas, and your friendship OOC to make this hobby really worth the time.

HONEST NOTE: I’m not the best writer. I’m not the best role-play partner. I take a long time to reply to things, and I drop threads if I’m not feeling it, but it never means I don’t WANT to write with you or that I have no interest in our threads. I just don’t want to let this become a stressful activity for me, because I can only write when I’m feeling the inspiration. I can’t just grind out replies like that, because my imagination is very picky, I guess?

And I’m very much a perfectionist in the self-sabotaging way so if I’m trying to write something and don’t feel like it’s good enough to share, I’d rather just not do it at all...(like taking a 0 instead of a higher but still failing grade bc if u didn’t try then u didn’t really fail, which is ridiculous but i’ve always been like that even in school--anyway my point is DON’T STRESS ME OUT I HAVE ANXIETY AND DEPRESSION)

My honest note is just, I’m always ready to plot and discuss and try to thread, but please don’t expect too much from me and end up disappointed bc I don’t live up to expectations as an RP partner. I’m just doing my thing here and putting in the effort I realistically can with my mental state. I want to have fun writing with all of you, just give me patience and time and enjoy what we do get to see from our characters, and I also won’t judge you for being slow with replies or dropping things.

What I’m actually writing for Captain America??? This will probably be one of the few exceptions for him bc I’m not used to writing with him. I prefer writing Tony smut, but ngl I personally feel this was one of my better ones.

Steve watches -hidden behind a newspaper- from his seat in the kitchen the way you joke around with Tony. The prolonged stares, the lingering touches, the way you laugh at his jokes like they're extremely funny. How he would kill to be in Tony's place. Making you laugh like that, having your fingers mess with the blonde strands on his head, making your lips curl up into the familiar smile he loves seeing plastered on your face. However, he knows it's wrong. For many reasons. One being that you're Tony's. He could never feel good about himself if he made someone cheat.

Another thing was the age. Hell, he's technically a hundred years old, despite looking like a twenty-something-year-old. Everybody thought your relationship with Tony was odd, despite the two of you denying any type of relationship. They're not dumb, they can all hear the screams from Tony's room, the banging and the creaking. In no way are the two subtle. Now if it was you and Steve, there'd be hell to pay. Everybody would be judging the hell out of the soldier. But it's not like you're barely an adult, you're in your mid-twenties. Old enough to make decisions about who you sleep with.

On top of that, Steve mainly sees you as a sexual person, not one for romance and love. Sure, he'd love to get you in bed, but he's a traditional man and he just knows you wouldn't marry him just to have sex. It's an idiotic thought, really. But he can't help but think it. Being a virgin for a hundred years isn't too ideal -but in Steve's defense, he's been stuck in ice for 70 of those years- and he knows a big reason why he wants to have sex with you is because he just wants to get it over with as well.

"Hey Steve!" you greet as you walk into the kitchen. Steve's eyes dart over to you quickly as he sets the newspaper down, giving you a smile and greeting you eagerly. A little too eagerly if you ask him. You walk over to the counter furthest from the entrance and grab two mugs from one of the cupboards above. You fill them both with some coffee, but you only grab one of the mugs and take it to the table with you. At the table, you take a seat next to Steve before grabbing the liquid creamer just a few feet away from you.

"Morning, Cap," Tony says as he walks into the kitchen a few seconds later, heading for the other mug. Steve looks up and greets Tony with a nod, offering nothing more after that. Steve looks down at the newspaper on the table and grabs it, lifting it up to pretend to be reading once more.

"Steve," you begin once Tony takes a seat at the table. Steve looks up from the newspaper, noticing Tony's eyes are on his StarkPad. Your eyes are fixed in Steve's direction, waiting for him to actually look at you. "Tony and I were thinking and we know you need a break from some of the missions. Maybe we can start sending others out more?"

Steve looks up at you, finally, after pretending to stare at the newspaper. His brows furrow and he looks surprised and confused by the proposition. The man never gets tired, how could he be tired of Avenging? "I'm sorry?" Steve asks as he looks between you and Tony.

"It's just- we think Bucky and Wanda haven't been pulling their weight much lately. It seems pointless to employ them if they're not even doing anything," you continue, eyeing the man carefully. His eyes squint into a glare, but it seems to be cast at Tony. "Wanda's last mission was two months ago and it was a short rescue mission that lasted an hour. Bucky hasn't been on a mission in four months. They've been training nonstop and they've expressed they're ready to go out. But you never send them."

"What about the Spider kid? He never goes on any missions?" Steve asks, feeling a bit defensive. Normally he wouldn't snap, but who are they to tell him how to run his team?

"He's just a kid, Steve. He does neighborhood patrols and that's that," you cut in and glare at Steve. Why is he being such a dick about it?

"Yeah, plus you're not the only person in the team. We still have Sam, Nat, and Bruce. Who all get very tired because they're still regular humans. You may have the super serum," Tony says before standing up and setting his mug down. "But they don't," he concludes before making a dramatic exit out of the kitchen. Steve rolls his eyes at the other man.

A huff escapes Steve's lips as he lifts his own mug and takes a sip of his coffee. His eyes scrunch up in disgust at the cold coffee. When he looks over at you, he notices the way you're bottom lip is tugged between your teeth. He gives you a look of pure confusion, not understanding why you're looking at him like that.

"Friday, lock the kitchen," you say. A quiet trill sound is made as metallic doors come shutting down from the top of each entrance to the kitchen. Steve looks around, his brows furrowing as he notices there's no escape. Not that he wants to, it's just a bit shocking to the man.

"W-what are you doing?" Steve asks as you approach him. Slowly, he steps back with every step you take forward. You smirk once he's up against the counter and you're standing in front of him. There's a significant height difference, which one would not find intimidating if they were looking at you, but this is Steve. He wants nothing more than to be able to feel you in ways that he knows only Tony gets to.

"Look, Cap. The team is getting a bad rep because people think we're hiding something with Bucky and Wanda. If we send them out, they'll see nothing fishy is going on. Just send them on more missions-"

"So this is a PR thing? Really?" Steve asks, his voice coming off with tons of shock and disdain. You roll your eyes as you rest a hand on his chest.

"Yeah, but it's more than that. They're just sitting ducks letting their skills go to waste. You know they're valuable assets to the team. They can help us do less damage. On top of that, world leaders are getting concerned again. We're just trying to protect Bucky and Wanda again from not getting detained or something. Just send them on missions and let people see that they're doing what they're supposed to. Tony and I can only hold them off for so long."

Steve shakes his head. You're not sure why he's so hesitant to send them on missions. They're the best at what they do and they always make it out safely. Sam is overworked, Bruce -as of lately- seems to be having trouble with the other guy, and Nat needs rest too. So why can't he alternate them out?

You don't bother moving from your position between Steve's legs and you find yourself moving closer towards him. okay, so late ‘90s, early ‘00s badfic 101

A lot of fic was either on fanfiction.net or private archives. People would also post things to fic communities or private journals on LJ. (Which was a whole...thing, with some people friends-locking their work because they were afraid of sporking/flames or they were just pretentious.) ff.net had a whole HOST of problems, like a variety of terrible ways your formatting could get borked (like you couldn’t use repeating characters, which made line breaks hard; that’s why you’d get increasingly “arty” line breaks that could be...cringey), policies against allowing any fic of media created by people who didn’t like fic (see: Anne McCaffery, Anne Rice, other crazy Annes, etc.), puritan anti-smut policies which often got applied to slash fic more than het fic, and just...in general, terrible fic. Private archives were often manually curated by their owners, which could be fine or it could lead to cliques and circlejerks. The Harry Potter archives seemed to get especially crazy with this and some truly epic wanks came out of that. You’d also see people hosting fic on their own sites (usually angelfire or something) with big slash warnings and IF YOU’RE UNDER 18 GET OUT warnings. A lot of fic archives wouldn’t host slash or porn, and you were liable to get in trouble in fandom or otherwise if you didn’t strongly label LGBT/18+ themes. Especially if the fic in question contained both. Like. I don’t like the OTW for many reasons, but I have to admit that AO3 is basically a godsend. We lost a lot of fic to purged LJs/deleted websites.

SUPER purple prose. Older fic in general tended to be a bit more “literary” and purple and it sometimes read like J.R.R. Tolkein was having a stroke. By the time the ‘90s/’00s rolled around, you’d just get this sort of halfway point where people would have generally unornamented text except for things being thrown in like this character’s cerulean/azure/periwinkle eyes. The shade would change by scene, and you’d always know because there’d be a lot of stuff like “the cerulean-eyed man shook his head”. EVERY CHARACTER IN THIS SCENE KNOWS HIS NAME, USE HIS NAME. Or they’d refer to a character’s glimmering green orbs or something. It was painful.

In anime fandom especially, you’d get a lot of these epithets that referred to their abnormal hair colors. People saw “brunette” and were like “shit, I can adapt that” so you get ravenette and bluenette and silverette and pinkette and kill me now. Some people got pissy about like -et/-ette endings re: gender, but after you’ve gone to the bluenette place, it doesn’t even fucking matter anymore. Grammar is dead.

Anime fic also tended to have a lot of so-called “fangirl Japanese”. Writers would just sprinkle in any Japanese words they knew for no goddamn reason, which would usually end in glossaries at the end like *kakkoi means cool! *aoi means blue! and goddamn guys, these are all words than have legit English translations.

Script fic. Just... script fic. More on that at the bottom bc I had to use some special formatting.

“Crack” fic. This would be fic that was purposefully OOC (out of character) for comedic effect. Tended to utilize “omg so random!!” humor. It usually was pretty much only comedic to caffeinated 13-year-olds. This was literally all Invader Zim’s fault and you know I’m right.

The “disposal” of female love interests in slash fic. Used to be much more of a problem than it is now. Now, I’m not talking about fics that just don’t talk about female characters or retcon a relationship or are like “they broke up!!! moving on!” I’m talking about fics that turn all female characters into shrieking homophobic harpies that would probably rather their canon love interests be dead than fuck a dude. This was applied even to like the nicest characters in the world, or even to characters who weren’t in canon romances with the male characters but were deemed to be threats. They often got smacked around or died or whatever. Things were a lot more sexist in fandom back then. There was a yenta trope that kind of arose as backlash to this but was really just as annoying in a different way. That usually involved a canon love interest going full yaoi fangirl (for some reason) and shipping her love interest with another guy, then involving herself in their love lives to a truly creepy extent so she could hook her boyfriend up with another guy. These were also sexist. Both situations tended to make the female characters incredibly OOC and prevented them from having any real human reactions/emotions.

Mary Sues. Now, the term has lost a lot of its effect in recent years. Mary Sues (or Gary Stus) used to have a really specific meaning. They were OCs (original characters) that were the prettiest, smartest, most powerful, popular characters in the whole world that had glittering orbs for eyes and usually had some kind of special magical power that made them better than all the canon characters. These were self-insert characters -- in other words, even if they didn’t have the same name as the author, they were wish-fulfillment characters wherein the character was used as a stand-in for the author, who could then write all the canon characters loving them. Now people just use the term for any female character that’s powerful and central to the plot, so...it’s not a useful word anymore. As for the old school Sues, well... I don’t necessarily think they were bad, but I will say it’s a hell of a lot more fun to write a Suefic than to read one. That really goes for most fanfics with OCs that have been elevated to a prominent status. People generally read fanfic because they want to read about the canon characters they love, not shallowly-written OCs that take over the fic. I don’t think OC-driven fic is bad to write... But again, yeah, it’s usually much more fun to write than to read. I think it’s helpful to be cognizant of that.

Reviewer participation fic. Mostly an issue on ff.net. It used to be that there was no way to reply to comments on ff.net, and as I’ve said before, there was a strong comment culture back then. Just not replying to reviews could be interpreted as very rude. (It would be unfathomably rude on LJ, which was more community-driven.) So to get around this, people would include a section to reply to reviewers at the beginning of the next chapter or their next one-shot or whatever. So you’d get long interminably long fics on ff.net with like 40 chapters in which nothing happened, and to get ideas, they’d ask reviewers. Worse, sometimes people would try to incentivize readers to review by offering to put their loyal reviewers in the fic. So you’d have this long section at the top of the chapter which might have a conversation that’s been going on between them and a reviewer for the past 8 chapters (and hell, they might’ve made a new chapter just to reply to them) except multiplied by however many reviewers there are, and then the reviewers worm their way into the fics, too! Oh my god.

Passive-aggressive fic. This was especially an issue on LJ as a personal response, but would show up on ff.net as response to wider fandom tropes. These would be fics where a character is like “WOW I WOULD NEVER DO X, THAT WOULD BE SOMETHING I’D NEVER EVEN CONSIDER DOING. WHAT KIND OF IDIOT WOULD THINK I’D DO THAT?” And X is usually (a.) something a reviewer told them would be more IC than what was in their previous fic, (b.) something another writer just put in their fic, or (c.) a ship they don’t like. (This would also extend to fics where characters would be like I’M NOT GAY, I’D NEVER FUCK A DUDE, EWWW!! as anti-slasher rhetoric.) Back then, you could reasonably expect that people in your fandom would at least see, if not read, your new fic. On LJ, you saw basically all the fics because they were posted in wider communities, and fandom was, as a whole, more community-driven back then. If you insulted another member of the community via fic, they’d know in about ten minutes. It was throwing down a gauntlet. lol

The crack fic genre also extended to crack pairings. It wasn’t unusual for people to dare each other to write weird pairings (often characters who’d never met), the more bizarre the better. This was the era of Hogwarts/Lake Squid. These fics were often sporked, but in a more delighted way than usual. There really was more of a sense that people could and would write anything. Some people came to actually ship these pairings like legit and ship wars would ensue. And sometimes some cracky pairings just became really popular for assorted reasons and that made other fans really mad. This still happens, honestly.

Ship wars now are often dressed up in social justice terms, which is a trend that I find frustrating bc I feel like it denigrates important issues. Ship wars in the ‘90s/’00s, on the other hand, were just balls to the wall insane. I still refuse to engage in ship wars because damn, man, the shit I’ve seen. People were much more open about the fact that they hated people who shipped other pairings because they just shipped something else or were squicked by the pairing or whatever. The Harry Potter shipwars got particularly fucking weird. So it wasn’t generally a slash vs. het thing, like some people will have you think. Some of the worst ship wars I have ever seen were het shippers at war. Never again the harmonian times.

Frankly a lot of other things that my mind is rebelling against remembering.

Script fic (often with author interludes) was eventually banned from FF.net, which kind of killed it in fic because that was the main posting venue back then (unless you wrote slash or porn, which could be taken off if people reported it; technically slash wasn’t against the rules unless it was explicit, but they didn’t often check the reports carefully). What I mean by script fic is like

Karamatsu: wow I sure like these sparkly pants Chibita: I don’t (A/N: I do!!!!111 I have a pair like them at home!) Karamatsu: let’s fuck now Chibita: but offscreen because we want to preserve our soft M rating!

The A/Ns (author’s notes) could get really in-depth sometimes, with an author often RPing the characters OOC or using them as their “muses”. So sometimes you’d get a mess like

Karamatsu: gosh it sure does suck that everyone treats me like dog shit Chibita: true (A/N: serenaxkittyx755: That’s not true, Karaboy! Choromatsu: Yeah, we like you less than dog shit. Ichimatsu: Way less.)

Except my example was honestly more IC than most of these tended to be. You’d often get “muses” saying “ewww” or “that’s hot” during romance scenes, even when this made no sense whatsover. Or offering commentary on some random non-karamatsu character’s fashion choices or something. Purposeful “crack” was considered not just okay but in fact desirable back then.
