okay so your posts about kyoya being close to his guards, did you mean the ones that followed him to france?? I'm so curious :0

Yes thats them! That is the arc where we see them and Kyoya getting to interact almost entirely on their own, so it’s one of the really important ones for showing their relationship. The parts which stand out to me particularly are how synced up their thoughts about Kyoya are, how much they all know about his feelings for Tamaki and that he usually tries to hide them (even from his team), and that we get to see that he does treat the members of the team individually with the recurring joke about Hotta/Horita/Honda being the one most on the receiving end of Kyoya’s annoyance.

But there are other places where the team pops up and it’s implied at least some of them are literally always present (but hidden from view) when Kyoya is not at home. Tachibana also gets to have his solo extra with Kyoya where we learn how long he has been taking care of him and just how strongly he feels for Kyoya, as well as the cuteness that is him taking home the gifts from Tamaki that Kyoya discards. Tachibana as team leader and the one who has been with the family/Kyoya longest certainly seems to have the most paternal feelings for Kyoya and the story doesn’t really shy away from that, which is part of why I feel there is some narrative intentionality to Kyoya having three guards in a leader and two subordinate arrangement to replace the father and two brothers we know he has a difficult relationship with.

If I had the power, I would change his ending to one less bittersweet, but then it wouldn’t be Kyoya. See, at the end of the series Kyoya ends with someone who is arranged for him and it’s for the better of his family. Eventually he finds love through that, but it’s eventually and well, that’s quite a bittersweet ending. That alone should be enough to signal that he belongs on team coffee, but it’s not.

Before landing on team coffee, I went between team strawberry and team matcha. Yet, he didn’t fit in with those two no matter how hard I tried to squish him into them. Team strawberries must be tart and cute, Kyoya is neither tart nor cute. Still, his backstory of wanting to be seen convinced me that he could fit in. On the other hand, team matcha appeared fit because he had a more mature flavor in him as well as being a breath of fresh air. Despite that, Kyoya wasn’t searching for connections nor was he careless enough to let himself go. Only after I thought this through did I place him into team coffee.

So, what else makes him into a team coffee member? Well, it’s his behavior towards handling his own conflict. Kyoya’s main conflict is being the third son and wanting recognition, but he overcomes this. In fact, it’s very clear to us that he overcomes this and takes pride in being an Ootori by the time he’s in the club. In the end, all of his actions are not for himself rather it’s for his family or friends.

In addition, it’s made abundantly clear that Kyoya makes the active choice to be vice-president and handles just about everything. Something quite common in team coffee. Like every other team coffee member, he is aware of his strengths and weaknesses. So, he rarely steps out of line, another common trait in team coffee. I believe the only time we see him step out of line in the anime is when he gets enraged by Tamaki on the couch.

Typically, a team coffee member will go to change themselves in order to archive whatever it is that they want. Some succeed, but most fail. Most members in team coffee learn to accept themselves and that’s the end of the story. But with Kyoya we see him come to a stop all at once. Everything he had been feeling unravels one after the other, which is the end of the story. We come to the conclusion that he’s satisfied by the time Kyoya engages in the club. All it took was a single Tamaki who saw through it all. Tamaki is the true reason behind Kyoya being a member of team coffee. Basically, team coffee only really has their reawakening of life when a complete stranger knocks on their door with a bang. For Kyoya it was Tamaki, but Tamaki didn’t do anything other than be himself. Eventually the two become inseparable beings and its case close right?… Nope, not in the least.  

Kyoya is the loser by default. This is where my team coffee meter goes up which is never a good sign. Team coffee sees things through their eyes only and it takes a whole lot of convincing for them to see what’s really right in front of them. At the heart of the OHSHC it’s a reverse harem with everyone who is pining for Haruhi, everyone but Kyoya. This man never attempts because this is unthinkable for him. Team coffee usually has someone so close they feel inferior to them or love them to not consider going that same path. For Kyoya it’s Tamaki. All of this means that Kyoya will never step out of his line so long as Tamaki is involved. Which is bittersweet. Sweet because he cares for this friendship of his, but bitter because he never goes beyond the unknown unless otherwise.

To close off I would like to mention the beach episode where he pins down Haruhi. This whole scene is incredibly common with team coffee. For some reason team coffee always chooses to scare someone through physical means. Essentially, they pin themselves to be the bad guy in order to scare you. If you’re into that I highly recommend Leonardo da Vinci from Ikemen Vampire.

• safe to say you two definitely met through haruhi

• haruhi’s a close friend of yours and she invites you to come and take a look at the club after school

• since you guys wanna spend more time together but school + work gets both of you busy

• so when you come in with haruhi who’s normally by herself and assumed to not have a social life outside of the host club, nothing short of chaos ensues

• i pity you if you have a short social battery bc you’re gonna be pulled in every which way by our fav short tempered blondie!

• you get to meet tamaki first obvi, given he’s usually the first one to meet haruhi at the door most days anyways

• he’s super cliche in a good way, greeting you happily and telling you how pretty your name sounds

• and then haruhi eventually swats his ass off the both of you and walks you further in to take your first look around

your shoes click against the floor as your hand remains lightly holding hers, your eyes wandering around the room as she guides you through it. “you never told me how pretty this place was, haruhi,” you murmur, your gaze still shifting to different spaces.

she scoffs softly, but there’s no malice in her voice with her next words. “it’s less exciting after you’ve gotten used to it, but i’m happy you like it,” she replies sincerely, tilting her head slightly to watch your expression as you look around.

• for plot’s sake, you know everyone by name already and like their upbringing/family because haruhi’s been keeping you up to speed

• so today was just a matter of seeing everyone’s faces for the first time and getting to meet them in person

• after a while you and haruhi get some tea and find somewhere to sit, just chatting and enjoying each other’s company

• and he’s walking around and making sure the guests are pleased like tamaki and the other hosts are, and that’s how you end up meeting each other

• he was charming as always, it wasn’t a surprise you fell for him

“so which twin ended up being pink?” you ask with a smile, earning a stunted chuckle from haruhi as she finishes her tea. “your guess is good as mine.”

“you all seem to make a surprisingly good team, considering your unorganized ‘king of the host club,’” you mutter teasingly, taking another sip of your tea. “i’d say the same,” she agrees, “but i’d say some hosts take care of things better than others.”

another set of shoes is heard against the floor, and haruhi seems to recognize the pair. she looks to the right of you, and you tilt your head to follow her gaze. your eyes soften. he’s gorgeous.

“speaking of which,” haruhi continues, as he moves to stand beside you two’s shared table. “have i introduced you to kyoya yet?”

“ootori?” you confirm quietly, your voice died down from an awe of some kind. he seems to notice and a ghost of a smirk is on his face as he nods.

“i’ve heard your family spoken of highly,” you say politely, lifting your hand out for him to shake. “it’s nice to finally meet you.”

he eyes your hand for a moment, his gaze a bit softer from your words as he takes it and kisses the back of it, haruhi’s eyes just barely widening at the rare sight. his response is a quiet mumble against your hand before he lets go. “likewise.”

• it’s easy to tell he likes you

• he’s not usually very affectionate with guests unless he knows it’s needed to satisfy them

• he talks with haruhi about like budgets and things for a quick second and then goes back to work

• but he can’t stop thinking about you

• so naturally he wants to see you again, and drops like crazy subtle hints to haruhi that she’s allowed to bring around her friends

• and our lovely haruhi takes the bait and brings you back around, and slowly it becomes a common occurrence

• you’d meet up with her after school and you’d walk to music room 3 together, and you’d catch up with her or help each other study while the other hosts paid you two sporadic visits

• except kyo, he’d make an effort to come see you everytime

• this goes on for a couple months

• and after a while you started catching on because the man is not as sneaky as he thinks he is

• so naturally you end up asking him out one day while haruhi’s away and hosting

“ootori?”

he looks up from his laptop and meets your eyes, a silent sign for you to continue talking. “is it hard developing romantic feelings for people as a host?”

he hums in contemplation and shakes his head. “i’d say it’s about the same, considering this is nothing more than a job for me,” he murmurs truthfully, a slight smirk brimming on his face as he adds, “why do you ask? are you falling for a host?”

you shrug. “maybe. but it’s hard to tell if i should do anything about it.”

“and why’s that?”

“hosting is nothing more than a job for them,” you retort softly, a hint of a smile on your face as you look back down at the paper you’re working on. he’s silent for a moment as he takes in your words, before his collected facade transitions into something softer.

“and how would you feel if you were their one exception?” he inquires nonchalantly, his confession making your eyes widen slightly as you look back up at him.

“i think you should kiss me,” you ask bluntly, your words tentative but genuine. you don’t have to ask him twice, and it’s light and careful but his lips meet yours and his free hand moves to the back of your head to gently hold you still.

there’s a calmer look on his face that mirrors yours once he pulls away, his words soft and clear and almost teasing. “i think you should start calling me by my first name.”

you don’t fight the widening of your tiny smile and nod in understanding, gently pulling him in by his uniform collar for another kiss. he leans into and returns it, and it’s right now that he realizes he’s never gonna get enough of you.

Tamaki climbed out from behind the couch to sit beside Kyoya. He pulled his vampire cape around his body as if to protect him from the monsters. "Are you sure children have seen this?" Tamaki felt maybe the fact it was animated could be misleading...though he did like dogs.

Ah. Behind the couch. "You did want a Halloween movie, did you not? A few scares are to be expected. Besides... I asked about this movie before I bought it. They said quite a few children have watched this and were fine."

Fullmetal Luminary Alchemist

Tenma siblings (16 & 17) but everything is so much worse! Also Toya (16) is Winry, but Toya and Tsukasa do not have a romantic relationship.

I didn't see any reason to change the armor visually, except things the siblings would change themselves (decoration basically) so the hair thing is separated and dyed pink at the tips to look more like Saki's hair and the loin cloth is frilly and decorated (both of these things Tsukasa did for Saki to help her feel more comfortable)

Instead of dead parents, both of Toya's older brothers were drafted and killed instead. Also Toya's mom is a surgeon (regular) so she helps him out with some stuff, but can only do so much since she isn't specialized in automail

Then there's Prince Rui Kamishiro (17) and his two shadows, Nene (17) and Mizuki (21). Later on, when he gets injected with Greed he becomes Avarui

The other Xingese emperor candidate whose come to amestris in search of immortality is Emu Ootori (14)! With a little rabbit friend in tow. She's a big fan of the Luminary Alchemist she's heard so many stories of!

Tsukasa’s CO is Colonel Shinonome managed by her loyal, ever-present Lieutenant Asahina . Ena is still called the flame alchemist, since she still uses flame alchemy as her specialty

The other members of the team are: Sergeant Azusawa (Breda), Warrant officer Hinomori (Falman), 2nd lieutenant Shiraishi (Havoc), and 2nd lieutenant Hoshino (Feury). And Ena's best friend is, of course, Lieutenant colonel Momoi (Hughes). Married to Shizuku with a beautiful daughter!

Finally in this lineup, we have Akito (16) as Paninya. Kinda,

It's a bit more complicated because he is also Ena's younger brother and she is our Colonel Mustang in this au-

So more exactly, he and Ena are adoptive siblings, both taken in by Madame Christmas. Mme Chris paid/called in a favor for Akito's Automail surgery and he's incredibly grateful to her for everything she and the girls have done for him.

That's why he started working at Ken's shop (where he got the automail) as an errand boy/ extra pair of hands. Ken is still a father figure to him in this au, so he's happy to work there and wants to pay back Ken too

Originally Ena was also included in those he felt grateful toward, the two were actually very close, but then she joined the military. Originally this wasn't a problem, but she was gone for a long time and when she got back she was basically a different person.

Akito tried to help or at least witnessed some of her worst moments once back (think the Gracia's pie scene) and he was horrified, by what the military had done to his sister, and innocent people, and what his sister had done too.

This caused him to form a deep hatred for the military, which turned to a grudge against Ena when she decides to continue and even climb the ranks in the broken system of the military

He starts adding pickpocketing to his ways of making money, especially from military folks when they show up, he likes the rush and it makes him feel vindicated to hurt anything military

This is of course how Akito ends up stealing Tsukasa's watch, cue first rush valley episode (minus childbirth) and by the end Toya ends up working at Ken's shop too, but as an apprentice automailer

Gay romance ensues, with a lot of Toya picking at Akito's automail and Akito suffering

Since An is Havoc in this au, she is originally working for Ena, but then gets injured and heads back to the shop to help out. Which is obviously pretty awkward with Akito, but they start talking it out over time

I think this is around the time Ena and Akito start rebuilding their relationship, using An and her good nature as a bridge, enough so that by the end Akito helps out with the coupe (not going to the fight or anything, just handling supplies they send to Team Ena and stuff)
