Ghoul scent associations pt. 4 - Imaginary Authors edition
Imaginary Authors is one of my favorite perfume companies, and I recently got samples of their entire collection! Of course, my first thought was to apply that to the ghouls. So here that is!!
Some of these are ones that I used on other lists that I still agree with, but most of them are new. Also, as is the nature of using a very limited number of options, not all of them fit perfectly, but I did my best, and I think like 90% of them fit very well.
Usual warning: This might look weird on mobile, but it should be good on desktop. Apologies, I'd fix it if I knew how.
Aeon: TELEGRAMA – Imaginary Authors
Talc, lavender absolute, black pepper, teak, amyris, vanilla powder, fresh linens
Telegrama is a very powdery, peppery, gentle lavender scent that fades into soft vanilla. If it was a color, it would be a gray-purple so pale it almost looks white. It’s comforting but not childish, classic but unique. It smells like Aeon’s particular brand of simple comfort.
Aether: Blend No. 83 – Imaginary Authors
Dark chocolate, sugar cane rum, Arabica coffee, velvety foam, benzoin, musk
Blend No. 83 is a sweet, musky, chocolate-coffee scent modeled after an espresso martini, but it isn’t as gourmand as it sounds. It settles into a dark musk with the suggestion of coffee and chocolate. It’s grown-up but not at all boring, just like Aether.
Alpha: BULL'S BLOOD – Imaginary Authors
Geranium, Spanish rose, patchouli, black musk, tobacco, sandalwood, bull's blood
Bull’s Blood is very musky, smoky, and spicy, and comes on strong enough to knock you over. However, it’s also very sweet, and dries down to more of a smoky-sweet almost-floral. It’s not too serious but has an almost shocking intensity to it, and is potentially polarizing – like Alpha. If it was a color it would be dark burgundy.
Cirrus: SAINT JULEP – Imaginary Authors
Sweet mint, tangerine, southern magnolia, bourbon, grisalva, sugarcube
Saint Julep is a very sweet, realistic gourmand with notes of mint and tangerine in the foreground and bourbon in the background. Despite being lovely in a very straightforward way, it’s dimensional and grown-up, which reminds me of Cirrus, and has light, minty notes that remind me of air as an element.
Cumulus: FOX IN THE FLOWERBED – Imaginary Authors
Jasmine, tulips, frankincense, wildflower honey, pink peppercorns, silver thistle, alpine air
Fox in the Flowerbed is a very pretty, cloying, sweet jasmine and honey scent that makes me think of a field of wildflowers high up on a mountain. This scent is sweet and sticky but also light in a way that reminds me of Cumulus. If it was a color it would be pale blue.
Dewdrop: A CITY ON FIRE – Imaginary Authors
Cade oil, spikenard, cardamom, clearwood, dark berries, labdanum, a burnt match
This is very smoky and woody in the beginning, but it fades into a sweet berry scent. It really does smell like fire and matches. It reminds me of spending all night next to a bonfire. It’s almost overpowering at first, but sweet underneath, just like Dew.
(Also, this was one of the fragrances that solidified Dew's scent for me. All the other ones I've picked for him are based on this lmao)
Ifrit: O, UNKNOWN! – Imaginary Authors
Black tea, lapsang souchong tincture, orris butter, Kyoto moss, musk balsam, sandalwood
This is a very subdued, powdery black tea scent. It’s musky and dark, very mysterious, and somehow not at all gourmand. It’s dark and faintly smoky in a way befitting of a fire ghoul, with the black tea scent that I associate with Ifrit. If it was a color it would be a gray so dark it’s almost black.
Mist: FALLING INTO THE SEA – Imaginary Authors
Lemon, bergamot, grapefruit, lychee, tropical flowers, warm sand
Falling into the Sea is a sweet, citrusy, tropical scent that has a balmy, sandy, coconut background. It smells like a tropical beach on a perfect day. If it was a color it would be the shade of teal that super-clear water is. I typically associate greener, more aquatic scents with Mist, but this fits a different interpretation of her. Mist in a very good mood, maybe.
Mountain: CAPE HEARTACHE – Imaginary Authors
Douglas fir, pine resin, western hemlock, vanilla leaf, strawberry, old growth, mountain fog
Cape Heartache is a gorgeous, sweet pine and strawberry scent. It’s very forest-y without being too atmospheric, and it smells like the fantasy version of a lush, foggy old growth forest. It feels very slow, peaceful, and grounded, and is a mix of masc and fem, which reminds me of Mountain. (Also I smelled this for the first time and absolutely fell in love with it, which I kinda did with Mountain too lmao) If it was a color it would be the silvery green of evergreen needles.
Nimbus/Aurora: SLOW EXPLOSIONS – Imaginary Authors
Saffron, rose absolute, leather, apple, benzoin, cashmeran, Arpora night market
Slow Explosions is sweet and fruity with an earthy element from the leather. It’s pretty and almost delicate until you register the deeper, more grounded notes, similar to the way Nimbus seems dainty at first glance but decidedly is not. Overall lovely. If it was a color it would be glowy yellow-orange.
Omega: MEMOIRS OF A TRESPASSER – Imaginary Authors
Madagascar vanilla, guaiacwood, myrrh, benzoin resin, ambrette seeds, oak barrels
Memoirs of a Trespasser is a very woody scent with a little bit of smokiness and vanilla. There’s also something a little bit animalic. It reminds me of a late 1800s adventurer type with lots of maps and wooden chests full of interesting things. It’s sophisticated and mysterious with a sense of worldliness that fits Omega.
Rain: EVERY STORM A SERENADE – Imaginary Authors
Danish spruce, eucalyptus, vetiver, calone, ambergris, Baltic sea mist
This scent smells like a rocky coast, lined with evergreen trees and blanketed in mist. It’s cold, multifaceted, and surprisingly magnetic (like Rain). I don’t usually like aquatics but this is beautiful, it's one of my new favorites from Imaginary Authors. If it was a color it would be dark greenish-blue.
Sunshine/Stratus: IN LOVE WITH EVERYTHING – Imaginary Authors
Raspberry, citrus pulp, coconut palm sugar, Madame Isaac Pereire (rose), sandalwood, tropical punch, stardust
This scent is very raspberry/fruit punch heavy with a sandalwood undertone. It isn’t overwhelmingly sweet, but it’s very fruity. It’s Miami-in-the-80s themed and that definitely shows. It’s playful, fun, and sweet-but-grounded, just like Sunny. If it was a color it would be magenta.
Swiss: A WHIFF OF WAFFLECONE – Imaginary Authors
Vanilla, salted caramel, Saigon cinnamon, heavy cream, sandalwood, orgeat, scoop shop
This scent is a gourmand with a woody background. To me it smells like burnt sugar, heavy, clingy sandalwood, vanilla, and sweet spices. It’s more mature than the notes would lead you to believe. It isn’t the type of scent I usually associate with Swiss, but I can see it fitting an alternate interpretation. Maybe quint/fire or true multi Swiss. However, it does have the sweet, intense, almost smothering qualities I associate with him. If it was a color it would be the very light gold of slightly caramelized sugar.
Zephyr: YESTERDAY HAZE – Imaginary Authors
Fig, iris, cream, tonka, tree bark, walnut bitters, orchard dust
Yesterday Haze is a smooth, creamy but dry, slightly sweet scent. It smells sort of antique, but not outdated. It’s sophisticated and very pretty, like Zephyr, and has the dusty, powdery feel I associate with them.
(One of my absolute favorites from IA, for what it’s worth)
Thank you for reading!!

I could hear my brain whirring and my heart hurt so I spent the day in play, there were things 'to do’ but I dunno this ended up being a sort of a half snow day: Grail doll Rainbow Dream had arrived the day before; I opened the box and felt a million miles away so just left it and went to bed early. So waking up to this doll propped up on my desk and the slime packets waiting felt like an invitation to be 10 again if just for a few hours. I made slime wondering if it might awaken some neurodivergent pleasure center - I love executive toys, lavalamps, hands in a crate of beads, bubbles and whatnot - Slime’s a hard no, very ick, much dislike even with talc added to make it putty. I like kneading bread and working with warm salt clay. Slime feels very much the way Slimer the ghost’s ectoplasm looks but cold.
Quick notes on the doll’s quality: head movement is limited. The dark t-shirt stains the armpits, the upper tattoo sealant and the doll’s torso side seams. One or two backrooted plugs are to be expected with a multicolor rooting so brush gently and stop to look closely with a metal comb when you hit a snag then pull tightly on the hair plug (if you can use your fingers I recommend it as you get a better feel for the tension in the hair, you want enough to pull the hair out of the wrong place but not enough to stretch the fiber). If you’re buying second hand, expect hairplay dolls to have stripped hair and damage from hair product and whatever comes with the doll. Mine had quite a few stripped hairs in front and pink stains in various places but when I used a qtip with some alcohol to remove it from her facepaint the combo *removed* the paint. She fits this very stretchy Barbie curvy dress but is far too small for an MSD tshirt. The slime powder, glitter and flakes all came in packaging not suited to the medium as the holofoil plastic statically charges the glitter and flakes so it either explodes out, doesn’t come out, sticks straight to your clothes or a bit of all three.
I acetoned down the paint on her oversized lips, it sort of flakes off which is annoying and repainted the upperlips with pink mika mixed with satin gloss. Then blushed the upper cheeks, tearducts and a teensy bit to the sides and top of the nose. It adds depth even to her very flat side profile.
// I highly recommend getting $5 pack of mikas if you’re kinda naf at painting, it’s like covering things with glitter when you mess up... but at doll scale, so long as you have ways of tidying edges with qtips or the point of tweezers.//
Under the top+part teal and back apple, her rooting scheme is nearly exactly the same as Amaya. Amaya’s purple is just a more matte colour. I love that they kept that crossover detail. It’s neat circular rows of Stella’s fuchsia, Poppy’s orange, Jade’s apple green, Skylars secondary blue and Violet’s purple which means that you can separate out the different colours if you want to make tricolor braids for example.
// It reminded me a lot of working with rainbow fur which was made with just yellow, pink and blue that overlap to create the illusion of 6 different colours. My colour choices for a rainbow doll would have been similar to the fur with colour blocked patches or at least multirow layering as opposed to the single rows repeated which give a muddied effect from behind. The orange and the green merging in brown; blue green and orange practically grey. I have opinions about hair design - sue me or hire me ok! //
The transparent gimmick is just fantastic. Not with slime or liquids nuh uh. Beads, sticker flakes, nail art yes! I put plastic confetti diamonds in her boots and skirt. You have to blow in the skirt to get it unstuck from itself btw. Feel like most of us were born ready to wear clothes and shoes with transparent pouches for treasures. This line did not need a slime gimmick to be very appealing, like make me want to save up and get boots with transparent storage appealing. I have these heart shaped clear vinyl hairclips with holographic pink heart flakes in them and being a grownup is great because you get to wear stuff like that and so long as you keep it as your one or two main accents with say a matching plain pastel pink mask and laces, you can totally carry it off.
I very much like the way they carried over her design to the two Amayas and the big dark Takahashi Macoto eyes on the bigger dolls make them pretty much 3D artworks of childhood and teen magical girl dreams.

When Jeffree Star announced his summer collection for 2018, I was torn. I have been going through my collection and got away around 40% of my liquid lipsticks. And a good percentage of my eyeshadow palettes (I didn’t compare it before and after) to save space while I’m planning on moving. But after a few weeks of its release, I couldn’t help myself I had to get it. And this is the first time I’ve actually purchased one of their palettes, though I’ve had the others on my wish list for a while.
All of the packaging is a vibrant orange with little rain drop textures overtop. The Thirsty Palette also includes a Popsicle design with a wood grain appearance on the inside.
Thirsty Palette
This palette includes 15 shadows including 10 mattes and 5 blinding ultra-metallics. Also he tried to formulate this palette specifically to have minimum fallout with an array of bright colorful and neutrals. The palette itself is $48 and each shade has 0.069 oz or 1.95 g. Since the palette is vegan three of the shades are considered not suitable for the immediate eye area those being: Taste Buds, Biiiitch!, and Splash. This is why it’s considered a pressed pigment palette rather than a pressed shadow palette, since it’s up to the customer to listen or ignore the warning about the shades that may stain the eye or cause irritation due to the dye.
Now this is the first time I’ve tried Jeffree Star’s eyeshadow formula so looking at the ingredients I do find it interesting that a good majority of the shades have the first ingredient being Talc which is known for being more chalky. While the new formula of the ultra-metallics is either mica or polyethylene terephthalate. Now a lot of brands use talc including ColourPop and Urban Decay, while others like Anastasia Beverly Hills does not (at least not in Modern Renaissance and Soft Glam Palette as those are the ones I looked into for comparison). I’ve just been getting more interested in formulas and ingredients as I’ve been debating on testing the waters myself with making my own makeup (not to sell to others at the moment) and have been doing a lot of research into the subject. So I was really curious to test out this formula from Jeffree Star Cosmetics.
The first time I used the palette, I took the Lick across my lid using my fingers and while I noticed pigment on my finger almost nothing transferred to my lids. Which made me really nervous that I destroyed the product by causing it to seal into the pan. On that use, I only had concealer down on my lid that was set with the shade Parched. Now just because it wasn’t pigmented, did not mean I could build it up and it did last the entire day. But I’m positive it wasn’t performing right, so I wasn’t going to give up on the shade since I spent a good amount of money on the palette. When I got home after wearing the shades all day I decided to do some experiments with the ultra-metallic pigments. Here are my results:
Applied over bare skin with a finger: Barely any pigmentation.
Applied over bare skin with a brush: More pigmentation with a brush, needs to be built up.
Applied over primer (NYX Eyeshadow Base in Skin Tone) with a brush: A little pigmentation more just the glitter with the base coming through than the shade itself.
Applied over glitter base with a brush: Stunning pigmentation!
Lesson learned, use a glitter primer and a brush to get the full pigmentation out of the shadow. As I said, it can be done you just have to find the right combination. So I need to remember that when I use these shadows since typically I apply these type of pigments with my finger, but that doesn’t work with this formula. For the swatches below, the ultra-metallic shades are over a glitter base.
Pressed Pigments/Shadows in the palette:
Parched: matte fair beige
Tastebuds: matte baby coral
Biiiitch!: matte flamingo pink
Kumquat: matte bright orange
Stroke: matte terracotta
Divine: metallic silver
Filthy Rich: metallic gold
Lick: metallic topaz
Snatch: metallic pink champagne
Plunge: metallic copper
Subtle: medium cool-toned brown
Quench: matte bright yellow
Submerge: matte bright blue
Splash: matte aquamarine
Drizzle: matte warm chocolate brown
Velour Liquid Lipstick
In the summer 2018 collection, there are eight new limited edition velour liquid lipsticks that range from everyday nudes to reds to bold metallics. Each are available for $18 and contain 0.19 fl oz or 5.6 ml, or you can get all eight together for $105. All of them are also paraben and gluten free.
Shades in the collection:
Cherry Wet: Vibrant red/pink.
Fudge Pop: Warm-toned metallic brown with glitter reflects.
Huntington Beach: Bright teal.
Thirst Trap: Metallic beige champagne.
(818): Bright pink/coral.
Yummy: Burnt orange with a subtle glitter.
Coral Fixation: Vibrant Coral.
Soft Serve: Peachy nude.
Overall Thoughts
The Thirsty Palette is really nice but make sure you don’t use the metallic shadows with your fingers or you won’t have any pigmentation with the shadows. Otherwise, they look wonderful on the eyes and will last all day long. Comparing the shade Splash to Kiki from the Lunar Beauty Life’s A Drag palette, it is so much easier to work with since it’s hella pigmented. And I love that… I still don’t know how to use it in a look, but it’s more what I was expecting from that shadow from the palette. And that gets major points from me. As for the velour liquid lipsticks, I’m probably only going to be wearing Soft Serve and Cherry Wet on the lips but the rest will be used for my eyes as shadow or liner. Or for any fun looks and Instagram photos… but not on the regular basis as coral and orange does not look good at me at all. If you’ve tried this collection, what are your thoughts? If not, would you get any item from it in particular?
Love ya,
Mae Polzine

As someone who is ND themself and who has friends with “bad” ND disorders, I’m gonna ask neurotypical people to do a few things.
STOP DEMONIZING NEURODIVERGENT DISORDERS LIKE DID, BPD, BD, PSYCHOSIS, ASPD, ETC.
These people are NOT monsters, they are NOT your experiments to test on, they are NOT your hobby. They are living breathing people trying to live the best they can in a neurotypical focused world.
What bothers me the most is that these people are struggling, and then they don’t feel like they can reach out for help because the minute they do, they get demonized for it.
Another thing neurotypical people need to stop doing,
STOP INFANTILIZING PEOPLE WITH ADHD AND AUTISM. We are NOT infants. We are NOT incapable. We are NOT your “soft little baby.” Or some other bullshit.
We too, are people, we are also struggling, but treating us as if we’re incapable of doing anything when we very well could be is beyond insulting.
Neurodivergent people are just that, PEOPLE. Stop treating us otherwise. We just want respect.
Seriously.
