Negaverse Megavolt concept!

Design notes and personality rant stuff under the cut. Warning. It's long and unreadable.

The purse thing is a generator (Ill probably design it as a prop at some point considering It does NOT look like one but portable generators are hard for me to draw for some reason)

I swapped which eye has the white in it (even though I usually draw it on the wrong side anyway bc idk my lefts from rights..)

I wanted to make the darks very prominent bc the yellows are very prominent in the original

I went with blues bc it's the only other colour usually associated with lightning and electricity.

The teal parts of his outfit are lights! They glow when he's fully charged and fade out when he's out of power.

You can't see it in this pose but his hands have outlets on the back that work the same as megavolt's chest outlet. He can power weapons with them and charge himself without the pain of straight up shocking himself

I wanted to make his hair look like it's thinning out bc of age and repeated electrical damage but I wasn't sure how to do that so it's not really present. Did give him some white hair though.

His glasses are prescription! Can't see nothin without em..

Okay now some personality stuff!

Megavolt is the hardest villain to swap bc his personality is "insane guy with memory issues but is smart" and it's kinda hard to flip that around without just making him boring? Removing his intelligence when it comes to electricity would also negate his whole gimmick which makes things worse. but I do have a few ideas. It's ironic I struggle with him so much considering he's literally my favourite character...

He was popular in high school. He was friends with negaduck and they were both pretty well liked jock types before negaduck started doing major crimes (though I imagine he was always a delinquent of sorts. Just didn't start destroying the city till he graduated) clash reunion is a whole beast on it's own bc megavolt has the most in depth backstory which means a lot of reworking for a personality swap au.

His interests, like dw's megavolt, lie in magnesium, electronics, and engineering. The difference is, despite being Intruiged by these subjects, he didn't go out of his way to learn about the. He was more focused on his peers approval back then. Not to mention the fact that negaduck was an extremely toxic friend and would absolutely make fun of him constantly for it. (He doesn't even actually care, he's just an asshole.)

Eventually after gaining his abilities he began to study electricity and start inventing things. Only.. He's pretty bad at it. Things tend to backfire on him. Quackerjack has a lot more experience than him when it comes to engineering and he tries to help him out but the guy's kinda cursed. I haven't really decided if it's more dt17 gyro where everything he makes ends up turning against him or guy am I from the Netflix green eggs and ham show where everything he makes just kinda explodes. Maybe a bit of both. Either way it's very over the top and is more trouble than it's worth, but that doesn't stop him! (Oh God someone stop him)

I didn't wanna just take away his mental issues completely because the opposite of that is literally nothing. It adds.. Nothing. It just gives him less to work with. And it's already hard enough to do this guy. (Plus it kinda implies mentally ill people can't be heroes and that's.. Mm....) So instead I decided to change how he reacts to it.

He still has memory issues along with other physical and mental symptoms of electrical injury, he just really likes to pretend he doesn't. He completely ignores his deteriorating mental, physical, and emotional health <33

I wanna flesh him out more but I'd only be able to do that if I write with him and I'm fantastic at procrastinating my writing projects <33

Lowkey- think he's split between blue and yellow. Maybe more blue. Amber fits his energy though.

Deep violet or navy blue fits his vibe best. Something with a very elegant conotation.

Red, red, just don't argue, red.

Baby boy is gonna love a light lavender, or something to match his hair and eyes. Maybe baby blue and baby pink too though.

Also red, because green, even though it fits his associated color, probably reminds him too much of that bitchdelia.

White, maybe dark pink or rose pink. But he wears black because he's totally not going through a phase-

Again- something nice and elegant like navy blue. Maybe an even deeper violet.

Pink- or light blue. Leaning towards pink a little more though.

Okay so first before anything and everything else I simple must tell you that the new chapter made my day so good already (I just woke up) and thank you so much I love your writing immensely.

Second, onto my question of the day: How hard is it for Helsknight to notice Tanguish is bruised/bleeding? Cause I sort of assume it blends into his skin. Or does Tanguish bleed warden shriek blue? Like, if Tanguish himself does not notice, would Helsknight?

Also with the new scene of Martyn struggling to climb roofs I would love to see a scene where Helsknight and Tanguish encounter a warden specifically for the funny bit where Tanguish is like "oh wait you can't see" and Helsknight is like "you can????" Tanguish being immensely cooler than the Colesseum fighters but only in very specific/usually unlikely circumstances has become my new favourite part of him.

Ahaha I'm glad you liked the chapter! It was definitely a fun one to write. Poor Tanguish's terrified bravery at one of its finest hours. Definitely not projecting but I think protagonists who Do It Scared and still show symptoms of fear [stammering, shaking, etc] are underused in fiction. Every time I've been in a conflict I've been shaking like a chihuahua. Maybe I'm the weird one?

And gosh, your questions are always so in depth. I have to really sit and think about the answers.

In short! I think Helsknight would notice. Tanguish bleeds red. I don't think I've ever described it properly [his internal monologue panics a little too much when he's hurt, poor guy] but I don't think his blood is abnormal? I guess? In which case, red bruises on dark skin might not get much darker, but they do change the undertones of the skin. Random red-purple blotches on our little teal-blue guy will stand out. Also, his sculk lights are on his skin, and they probably stop glowing when damaged? In which case a particularly bad bruise or a cut would look purple-black and dull, compared to tealy-black and glowing everywhere else.

Helsknight! Would notice. I think whether he would actually say something about it would depend on how bad it is. If it looks like Tanguish just tripped on something, well, the man goes rooftop jumping. He would be expected to collect scrapes and bruises. Anything that looks like it came from self defense though, he'd get a little touchy about that.

Ahaha and Tanguish as super-specifically proficient in things is also something I enjoy about his character. I feel like everyone is like this? It's a very human thing. I don't think I'm good with word choice, until a friend points out something they thought was artful. My roommate doesn't consider herself good with kids, until she's the only adult in a room who can convince a scared child to ride a horse. We all have our little proficiencies.

Tanguish's are fun because he, along with you the reader, also hasn't quite figured out just how good he is, and what he can use those skills for.

Ahaha Tanguish and Heksknight vs a Warden would be hilarious. Helsknight, blind, kinda spooked, who really doesn't want to admit it's too strong for him to swing a sword at. Tanguish, politely guiding him away, occasionally stranding him places so he can sneak back and distract the Warden. That would be a fun little scenario.

I like red and black. Red is just probably because I've been using this color since early in life after I was first brought here when Ryder adopted me, but black... I just like these two colors put together, they create a cool effect. Add some yellow accents and it'll be perfect!

Would you believe if I said orange is not my favorite color? My favorite ones are blue, green and teal, because they remind me of the sea, the rivers, just waters in general. Orange is like, the one hot color I like, it's just not my favorite. And let's agree, from all these, orange is more visible in the water, which is what is needed from me when I'm working. If I would wear blue, green or teal, I wouldn't be really visible in the water.

I like green, orange and blue. Unlike Marshall with red, I actually legitimately like green. Orange goes well with the shades of green I like, and dark blue is a nice contrast too. I like dark blue as in early night sky blue, or early morning before sunrise. It's a quiet moment, the world's asleep, birds are just waking up and singing, it's a relaxing moment, I like it.

how’s your day going? could be worse! my boss was absolutely wilding today but I did get to spend most of my shift writing fanfic so that was nice.

did you have a childhood pet? so many! over the course of my childhood I have had rabbits, chickens, ducks, geese, turtles, a tortoise, crabs, hamsters, mice, fish, dogs, and turkeys (the turkeys sadly only survived one day)

do you sing or whistle around the house? sometimes i sing if no one is around and i’m in the mood

do you light candles or incense? candles but only on special occasions because i get sad when they’re all used up

what is your favourite outfit? hmmm i have these really soft worn dark green pants that look killer with a black shirt and an open dark teal button up layered over so probably that. bonus points if i add in a leather belt and boots and also my totebag with cartoon dogs on it. Another strong contender: tannish/orangish pants with a white tee open navy button up and my socks with weiner dogs that have hotdog buns and toppings. ideally though i would live in my pajamas (which are also almost all dog prints)

what's the last thing you created? I've been working on a fic for fun for a while now! haven't shared any of it yet but maybe someday lol.

what is your favourite fic or book of all time? ooooh so hard to choose. I absolutely loved etherized against the sky by snarfle. I’m a huge sucker for angst centered around secrets and misunderstandings and miscommunication. also it was so funny but also tricked me into a few unwilling therapeutic breakthroughs. 

what are you looking forward to? sleeping! I am so tired lol. also my dog's birthday party of course. 

what can put you immediately in a better mood? anything to do with my special interest. and also puppies

Top Five: thrift/secondhand/opshop finds?

Ooh, that's a good one! I have so many cool thrifted things. There's a big Value Village about a 20 minute walk from work, and I try to go there at least a couple times a month. 'Tis one of my few non-essential indulgences, and oh how I wish I had more room to store fabric and put cool decor in! (All the prices I'm saying are in Canadian dollars.)

1. Wool fabric! This is multiple finds, but I'm lumping them all into one. I think they're all 100% wool, and if any are blends it's still mostly wool. The burn tests results were all very wool-like. All of them are from Value Village except the navy blue in the middle, which was from a small hospice thrift store. That one was $4 for 6 metres!!

The bright teal on top is stretch knit, and I think it's merino. I'm thinking I'll make Regency inspired long underwear with it. The plaid is really long and narrow, and I think it's handwoven? The visible edge there is the full width, and there's probably enough for 3 waistcoats.

The beige and fuchsia will probably - wait, is that how you spell fuchsia?? Weird. It looks wrong. I always thought it was fuschia, but spellcheck is underlining it in red. Anyways, the beige and fuchsia will probably end up being overdyed. The one with the little woven diamond pattern is going to be a waistcoat, because the brown wool one I wear everyday right now really doesn't fit me anymore. (I'm going to make a youtube video of that project. Haven't started it yet, but I really need to!)

I have had a couple of deceptive fabrics that I thought might be wool at the store, but turned out to not be. Usually I'm pretty good at telling from touch though. Wool is so expensive to buy new, so finding any amount of yardage secondhand is pretty exciting.

2. This wonderful candelabra. It's solid brass and was $4. It's a modern reproduction, but very similar to some mid 18th century styles, and I love it. I've found some other nice candleholders there, but this is by far my favourite. Look at that elegantly curving S shape!

This picture is from before I cleaned it with some Twinkle copper & brass cleaner, and it's shinier now and has two beeswax candles in it.

(The next time I had alcohol after this I got really excited about my shiny candelabra, and went on the hardware store website and left a very positive review for the brass cleaner, because it honestly impressed me.)

3. Full length vintage mink coat for less than 20 bucks. It was marked as 21, but I had a coupon, so it came to $19.50. I think the reason it was cheaper than usual is because of the huge faded patch on the side.

It looks like there's sunlight hitting it, but there isn't, it's nighttime, that's just fading. I think it must have hung next to a window for quite a while. Other than that it's in pretty good condition, save for a tiny bit of stitching coming undone in the lining. I mean to eventually use it as the lining for a mid 18th century fur lined coat! The very dark brown one on the closet door behind me is a similar coat from the same thrift store, and it was $35, which is still an absolute steal for so much lovely fur. It's got a bit of moth damage at the hem, but is otherwise good.

4. Someone's really good button stash.

This was spread out over 4 bags, but definitely all came from the same old person. There was such a high percentage of Good Stuff in there, I was astounded!

Usually you look at the bags of buttons and maybe see a few mother of pearl and some nice metal ones, and have to decide if it's worth buying the whole bag just to fish out the good ones (and re-donate the rest because I already have more than enough plastic buttons that I rarely use). But for these ones the good stuff was half the bag!!

Dozens of Victorian glass ones, including a matched set of 15, and even more mother of pearl! And see the little ones in the lower right corner? They're from button boots!

Absolutely incredible day, I love to hoard beautiful buttons like a dragon!

5. Silver plated sugar bowl from 1880.

This was $6, and I almost left it there, but ended up getting it because the handles looked cool. "They look rather Art Nouveau" I thought, "perhaps it's from the 1900's". But nope! (I do not know things about historical dish styles) When I got home and looked at it properly I realized it has a personalized inscription:

"Le to Min Oct. 25th 1880"

Who were these people?? I wish I knew, but alas, sugar bowls can't talk. There are numbers scratched into the bottom and the inside of the lid, so I think it was pawned at some point.

The above picture is from when I was polishing it, and it turns out a fair amount of the plating has worn off, which is why the bits around the designs are so dark. Someday it would be nice to look into getting it re-plated, but I can't be spending money on that sort of thing right now.

I've gotten quite a few silver plated dishes from there (which I use to keep sewing stuff organized on my table) but this is almost certainly the oldest one.

It's hard to narrow it down, there are so many! My shiny blue carnival glass candy dish (which I use for candy) and the smaller one (which I keep my cufflinks in). My beautiful blue ship plate. (I actually have a pretty big stack of plates now. I always look at the collectibles, but most of them are unappealing, I just go for the monochrome transferware, which doesn't turn up super often.) That nice big piece of ikat that I fixed the fringe on and now have as a table cloth on my nightstand. The little brass medallion with Charles Goodyear embossed on it. The late Victorian fashion plate of two ladies, who had unfortunately been cut out and glued to velvet, which I sent to @marzipanandminutiae. The leather scraps, the fur collar, the multiple wool felt hats I want to re-block, the huge cone of olive green thread that turned out to be 100% silk...

I also usually grab embroidery floss when I see it, because the price of new skeins has gone up a ridiculous amount, and you can get a nice collection of it for a tiny fraction of the cost (as long as you use it for stuff where you won't need to match more of a specific colour). It's great to share with friends who do embroidery too! I gave a huge bag to @leegoguen when I went to visit them last weekend.

I don't always find interesting things there, but the chances of finding something good increase the more often you go! For every nice bit of wool there's like 100 pieces of scratchy garbage, but the nice wool does come along eventually if you fondle enough fabric.

first impressions of the PJSK character designs (i know nothing about their personalities or anything yet)

Ichika Hoshino: it's alright, just not the most interesting? her eye colour is nice

Saki Tenma: i love her hairstyle and hair colour!! and the bright pink eyes! not the biggest fan of the yellow cardigan though

Honami Mochizuki: so pretty!! her light brown hair goes super well with her blue yes, and both contrast beautifully with her dark red outfit! the black bows on the sleeves are a nice touch too! lovely hair tie too

Shiho Hinomori: though her hair is grey, her design doesn't look dull, cause her eyes and outfit are that bright, light green, i think it's pretty! her hairstyle is simple, but i really like it

Minori: she looks very nice! i don't like orange, but it works on her, especially with the green. her eyes stand out a lot too, since they're a cool-ish grey and all the other colours are warm

Haruka Kiritani: her hair and eye colour, that like ink blue, is one of my favourite colours!! and my hairstyle's kinda like hers rn. i like the black and white stripy bow in her hair, and the colours of her oufit

Airi Momoi: i love her bows!! i wish the pink on them stood out a little more from her hair more though

Akito Shinonome: he's kinda ehhhhh. like i said, i don't like orange, so i'm not the biggest fan of his colour palette. his design doesn't really stand out to me

Toya Aoyagi: love his hair!! i really like those colours, especially the periwinkle blue. the rest of his design is just okay

Tsukasa Tenma: he has that hair colour that Saki Tenma also has which i like! oh wait, they're both Tenma? are they siblings? anyway, i also love the ruffled collar! fancy!

Emu Otori: she loves sweets probably? respect that! her outfit's cute... but the sleeves... they don't match with anything else... at all

Nene Kusanagi: i like her outfit and butterfly hairband!! she gives me cottagecore vibes sorta? it's nice

It's mostly white, but there's a dark brown accent wall that I hate. It's been there ever since my spouse bought the place (I moved in after we started dating), and he's not particularly fond of doing renovations because it looks okay to him. Aka not worth the hassle. Plus since I study abroad for most of the year currently, it's... Not worth the hassle. I've tried to tone it down with teal curtains and light colored linen, but I'm hoping that we'll make different choices for our next home 😅

💚 - What is your favourite colour?

I think... That as much as I do love crimson, I probably have to say navy blue. (Think of Fue's jacket.) I like wearing it, because I think it suits me, and it's among colours that I would consider as "sophisticated" colours.

I had a coffee break and had coffee and a sweet bun! Yes it was good

My favourite colour is probably dark teal! I love the shade that's similar to the colouring on a Eurasian teal duck. It's so pretty!!

The last song I listened to was Song for Zula by Phosphorescent. I absolutely adore this song! It's on every playlist I make. I love the way they write heart break and moving on; their imagery is just perfect.

2nd January 2023: Blog 2 of 2-Warblington and Farlington Marshes

Following on from my previous post, we then repeated another thing we did early last year and went to Warblington to look for Cattle Egrets. With Little Egrets in a sun kissed field we did manage to see a couple of these cute exotic birds, and it was an honour to watch them in the golden sunlight. Another sensational birdwatching experience today and this year. I took the first picture in this photoset of a Cattle Egret. We had the bonus of another year tick in the form of a good one to get under the belt in a year here as we don’t see them too often when we saw a Stock Dove fly into the tree I got the record shot in the third picture in this photoset of it. Stock Dove has become one we’ve seen a lot early in years lately pleasingly. It was also good to see Kestrel I believe flying up near the church and as I did on the journey there a sizable moon out which looked beautiful I took the second picture in this photoset of this.

We saw some brilliant birds at Farlington this afternoon/evening; with Pheasant, Linnet and Meadow Pipit pleasing year ticks. More gloss was added to the day by some smashing White-fronted Geese in the grass and a giant Marsh Harrier soaring over the marshes seeing it at dusk too. Always a top bird to see.

The main purpose at Farlington really was to try and see if we could see the Short-eared Owls again after seeing them nearly a month ago here. They were sighted before we arrived earlier in the day today and after a wait we saw one sat on a mound in the grass. A thrilling and fantastic moment getting cracking views of this regal species, a second special owl species seen today and what a day I have had for birds of prey which I am so pleased with. I was so amazed to see the Short-eared Owl at this brilliant reserve where this bird is one of the stars and it was sweet icing on the cake of a phenomenal second day’s birding of 2023. I am on 76 species seen now for the year my highest ever after two days ahead of what my highest totaled year list overall 2022 was on by four at this stage to be three quarters of the way to 100 in two days is something I am so pleased with.

Gorse in flower, teasel and dock seed heads and gone over rock samphire I believe were floral highlights at Farlington. It was also breathtaking to watch the sun set over the Spinnaker pinnacled Portsmouth skyline, after taking in stunning views of rich reedbed, grass and divine blue water at a muddy and wet reserve here too in gorgeous sunshine this afternoon, with the growing moon present throughout the walk looking crisp and powerful as darkness fell I took the eighth picture in this photoset of the moon. Seeing moonlit and lit by sunset colours on the water was magical. I took the fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, ninth and tenth pictures in this photoset of views here today. Being in/around two cities both Southampton and Portsmouth to watch wildlife today was interesting. It was so good to see lots of fellow nature/photography lovers we knew as loads enjoyed the owl. Wildlife Sightings Summary for Farlington Marshes: My first of two of my favourite birds the Marsh Harrier and Short-eared Owl this year, my first Pheasant, Linnet, Meadow Pipit and White-fronted Goose of the year, my first Rabbits of the year, another of my favourite birds the Brent Goose seen again today, Mallard, Wigeon, Teal, Shoveler, Canada Goose, Barnacle Goose, the white goose here, Moorhen, I seem to recall Grey Heron today and think it was here but it might have been at Titchfield where we were earlier in the day, Herring Gull, Lapwing, Curlew seen well, possible Dunlin late on, Carrion Crow and Magpie including flying late on as it was getting dark which looked nice, probable Robin and an insect.
