The Role of Air Traffic Control in Aviation: A Behind-the-Scenes Look
Introduction
Air traffic controllers are the unsung heroes of aviation. These professionals make sure that airplanes can fly safely and efficiently by providing pilots with information about weather conditions, nearby aircraft and airports, as well as any other factors that could affect a flight. In this article, we'll explore what air traffic control actually is and why it's so important to safe flights around the world.
ATC Systems
Air traffic control systems are designed to help controllers manage the flow of aircraft, allowing them to keep track of all aircraft in their airspace. These systems are computer-based and used for both radar and non-radar airspace.
ATC systems include:
Radar--a primary means of tracking aircraft at night or in poor weather; it allows controllers to see where planes are located on a map display, as well as how fast they're moving (velocity).
Automated Terminal Information Service/Terminal Doppler Weather Radar System (ATIS/TDWR)--a system that broadcasts current weather conditions at airports so pilots can plan ahead before landing or taking off; some airports have TDWRs but not ATISes, while others have both types of equipment installed next door from one another due to space limitations
What is Air Traffic Control?
Air traffic control (ATC) is the service that coordinates the movement of aircraft between departure and destination. ATC services are provided by air traffic controllers, who are employed by government agencies or private companies around the world to assist pilots in safely navigating their aircraft through all phases of flight.
Air traffic controllers work in a variety of settings, including towers at airports and en route centers located throughout an area's airspace. Their duties include providing information about weather conditions; communicating with pilots; monitoring and directing movements on runways; clearing planes for takeoff or landings; vectoring aircraft away from potential collisions; providing guidance to pilots during emergencies like instrument failures or bad weather conditions; coordinating airlift operations such as search-and-rescue missions or humanitarian aid deliveries.
Introduction - Who is an Air Traffic Controller?
Air Traffic Control is a complex and demanding job. ATC is a very high stress job, but it can also be very rewarding. For example, you may be able to help save lives or prevent accidents by directing aircraft to their destinations safely and efficiently.
Air traffic controllers work around the clock at airports throughout the United States and around the world to ensure that airplanes arrive safely at their destinations on time while avoiding collisions with other aircraft or objects such as buildings or mountainsides in bad weather conditions like fog or heavy rainstorms where visibility is low making it difficult for pilots to see where they're going because these conditions make it harder for them too see where other planes are coming from so they need someone like you who knows exactly where each plane should go in order not only keep yourself safe but everyone else as well
What Does an Air Traffic Controller Do?
An air traffic controller is responsible for the safe and efficient movement of aircraft in the United States. As part of their job, they direct aircraft to take off, land, or change altitude; provide information about weather conditions; coordinate with other ATC facilities and pilots; monitor radar displays; communicate with pilots via radio or telephone; issue clearances (permissions) to enter controlled airspace; maintain records on flight plans filed by pilots; respond quickly to emergencies such as hijackings or crashes.
Conclusion
The role of air traffic control has evolved over time, as has the technology used to manage it. But one thing remains constant: the need for professionals who are well trained and knowledgeable about aviation to keep our skies safe. This is why it's so important for you to learn about this field before pursuing a career in air traffic control!

“So, you found me at last.”
Inspired by the recent Dragon Age teaser. Bonus points if you find the Dread Wolf (I’ll admit, it’s not very subtle).

A theory about The Dread Wolf Rises and the plot of the new Dragon Age game
A huge plotpoint is hidden in this image, I think! Let’s take a good close look at this image..
We obviously see Solas and his monstrous form, Fen’Harel. We see the world around them burn and go to waste. We know how important nature and trees are in Elven artwork, so to see a barren, burnt, dead tree.... says enough about the world as it is now, or maybe how Solas sees it.
We see the monstrous form of the Dread Wolf, Fen’Harel, separate from Solas himself. (My guess is that something is not allowing Solas to fully become Fen’Harel again. )
We also see the red lyrium idol from the DA2 storyline. I do not yet know what significance the idol has (perhaps it was elven? In da:o we find ruins of elves living underground. Or it was stolen/taken afterwards. Or maybe it is the remnant of the first Blood Magic ritual done by Ancient Tevinters, presumably at the behest of one of the Old Gods....)
What we do know the significance of is Red Lyrium. The Idol was the first known red lyrium item and it has caused a huge interest in the stuff (red templars and all...). We now know that red lyrium is alive and has the Blight. So the blight might be involved in what is preventing Solas from achieving what he wants.
But we have to go deeper! Look at the circle around the lyrium idol. It has seven bumps on it, of which 5 grey and 2 gold.
In another post, I theorized what the bumps might be. Nations, Elven gods/Evanuris, Major Plot Points.... none of those theories matter anymore, because after discussing it with @haewke we came up with something even better!
What are there 7 of in Thedas, that have huge significance to the world and its history, of which 2 are different from the other 5? The Old Tevinter Dragon Gods!
There were originally 7 Old Gods that the Tevinters worshipped. Read the Dragon Age Wikia page about the old gods for more about their relationship to history and the world as Thedosians know it.
What you need to know now, is that the Old God dragons are asleep (almost like Uthenara.........👀✨) deep beneath the surface and through the ages, get tainted by Darkspawn/The Blight and become Archdemons, leading their Darkspawn breathren to the surface to wreak havoc and destroy the world!!!
To defeat an Archdemon, a Grey Warden must kill the body of the Archdemon to release its Old God soul, which will try to enter the body of its killer, but since there’s already a soul in a Grey Warden, both souls and bodies are destroyed in the process and the day is saved..
However, if the Archdemon is killed (somehow) by someone who is Not A Grey Warden, the Soul will transfer to the nearest (soulless) darkspawn host, where it will transform the body slowly to a more desired form. (Where have we heard or seen that before? Blighted creature dies and transfers to another host to transform back into its old self...... Hmmmmm....) The dragon may be dead, but it will return as soon as it is strong enough and the Blight will not be over yet...
In DA:O, Morrigan offers you a way out of certain death; have one of the wardens make a baby with her. This unborn child will have the mark of a Grey Warden’s soul, without the deadly side effects of the Blight. The Archdemon’s Old God soul will transfer directly into the unborn child and will be safe there, without causing a Blight and without killing its host. However you play the game, Morrigan will eventually get what she wants, which is a child (Kieran) with an Old God Soul.
Skip all the way to DA:I. Flemeth is revealed to be a host to the essence of Mythal. She takes the Old God Soul out of Kieran and into herself, for... whatever reason. Morrigan is now free of Flemeth’s clutches, unless you let her drink from the Well of Sorrows, I suppose.
No matter, because we will continue to go to the scene after you won the battle against Corypheus.
In that scene, we see Solas approach Flemeth/Mythal. We learn that this wasn’t all supposed to happen this way and that Solas has some form of regret about what happened and what’s going to happen. He takes the Old God Soul from Mythal and she (seemingly) perishes.
Well, that is one Old God Soul for Solas. Perhaps this is why she took it away from Kieran and Morrigan, so that Flemeth’s family would no longer be involved in Mythal’s plans... Flemeth might not be so uncaring after all.
But!!!! Back to the image and the circle with the seven bumps and how all of the above has anything to do with it.
For every Old God/Archdemon being awakened, there is a Blight. In da:o your Warden becomes the Hero of Ferelden, Defeater of the Fifth Blight. So we know that it is the Fifth. This means 5 Old God Souls may or may not have been destroyed or scattered. 5 grey bumps on the ring. 5 down, 2 to go........ like the 2 gold bumps on the ring. Lit, maybe, because Solas has acquired those? Or maybe those two are the only ones alive? Perhaps, once all Old God souls are gone, Fen’Harelncan finally be his old self??
What does all of this mean?! I don’t know for sure, but I had to share the things I saw in/thought about the artwork in the teaser trailer! What I do know is that this game will be the one where the events of DA:O, DA2 and DA:I will finally all come together in one big epic story. I think Solas is on a quest to retrieve all the Old God Souls to become some sort of overlord God who has the power to shape the world..... or tear it asunder, to recreate the old Elven world.
Will we have to find the Old Gods before Fen’Harel does? Commit the same Sin the darkspawn do, but without tainting the Old God Dragons? Will we need the Wardens? What does the Lyrium Idol have to do with this? And how many Old God Souls are still scattered throughout the world, and will we learn what the truth is behind all the gods, pantheons and supposed rulers of this world? I PERSONALLY CAN’T WAIT TO FIND OUT!!

who started the rumor of a new teaser at the game awards on the 12th
cut for length
I think for most ppl it’s actually more of a hope of what they want to see, or what they are guessing could be the case, rather than a genuine expectation or rumor, but that aside, not me lol. I’m always careful to report only what BioWare are actually saying, and to clearly demarcate when I’m guessing / discussing something I hope to happen / when something is an assumption or a rumor or questionable / when something is not confirmed, and to source things and add comments like “take this article with a bucket of salt” if I’m posting up an article from msm that seems questionable/sensational etc (for example). I also spend a fair bit of time correcting & countering mis- and false information when I see it floating around in the wild, becuz the spread of misinformation is a bit of a bugbear of mine and when it propagates I sometimes end up with multiple qs in my inbox asking re: the same misinfo-y thing (not complaining, happy to help and clarify when i can). I also correct & explain on the post my own errors as soon as I realize I’ve made one, when that instance arises. (which.. I can only recall happening once or twice, & I feel fine about saying that it only happens on my blog once in a blue moon)
certainly when I posted about TGA in reference to DA, what I said was “The Game Awards this year will be a little bit later than usual. the date was announced recently to be Thursday 12th December 2019. [x] last year’s Game Awards saw the release of The Dread Wolf Rises teaser trailer. no word yet on what will be at TGA this year.”, followed by “if I were to guess I’d say I don’t think we can expect DA4 to be at the show, what with the reboot and the September blog post saying DA4 is still working thru pre-production”. [in case you’re asking me becuz you have a specific post of mine in mind] it was also pointed out to me that TGA will be almost 1 year exactly since TDWR teaser, and my response was something completely non-statementy i.e. not rumorfuel, like “ooh, good point, interesting”.
anyway I don’t recall seeing a specific person as the originator of this rumor. I’m gonna go with mainstream gaming media on that one.. we know how it works. permit me some hyperbole and combined instances for the sake of writing an example; BioWare tweet something innocuous like “We are going to celebrate Dragon Age 4 with you guys :)” or someone writes a navelgazing fluff opinion piece where they wonder aloud if xyz could be the case, and one rag seizes on it immediately and irresponsibly and with clickbait in mind, like “DRAGON AGE 4 INFO DROP IMMINENT??” , and from there other outlets pick it up and run their own iteration of the story, first with only minor changes such as to “DRAGON AGE 4 INFO DROP IMMINENT!!!” and then it grows arms and legs and suddenly down the outlet grapvevine it becomes “BIOWARE TO TEASE DA4 AT NEXT GAME AWARDS”. that’s the news cycle. it’s a lack of journalistic integrity to be honest, lazyness and a desire to generate clicks/associated revenue. I will say there are also a bunch of folk on Tumblr, as anywhere really, who see tweets like that and their takeaway somehow is.. not what the tweet said, like, at all? I don’t know if that’s an issue with reading comprehension (um.. sry to sound like an ass there) or just folk innocently being real excited for a much-wanted game (understandably!!) and so naturally jumping quickly to conclusions out of hype (which is human), or whatever.

How Does Doppler Radar Work? Get the Inside Scoop on How This Important Weather Tool Works
Doppler radar, also known as weather radar, has always been the subject of curiosity among people. How does it work? What purpose does it serve, and how does it detect the weather? We will dive into every detail of doppler radar to answer these questions, and more!
What is Doppler Radar?
Radar is a system that uses electromagnetic waves to detect objects and measure distances. The word doppler comes from a physicist called Christian Doppler who discovered that sound shifts in frequency as the source of sound moves closer or farther away. So, this means that if a wave has an object moving towards it, its frequency will be higher than if it was stationary. It is also known as a Doppler shift. What does a doppler radar do? A radar can use electromagnetic waves to find out what the speed and direction of motion are for any object by measuring how they change with time. They also measure heights, lengths, widths and other distances based on these calculations. These measurements can help forecasters see whether there are storms coming or where wind speeds are located so they can issue weather alerts early enough for people to prepare for bad weather conditions.
The Purpose of Doppler Radar
What is doppler radar, you may ask. It is a weather surveillance system that utilizes radio waves to detect precipitation, winds, and other phenomena. There are two basic types: one being a stationary type that transmits waves in all directions and measures wind speed and direction; the second is a mobile type that emits pulses of energy in pulses or continuous wave form in order to measure precipitation, winds, etc. What Does a Doppler Radar Do? Now we know what it does. What does it measure then?
How Does Doppler Radar Work?
What is doppler radar and what does it do? A doppler radar is a type of weather radar that measures wind speeds and precipitation. It can also measure the direction, height and width of rain, snow or hail. What does a doppler radar measure? One important thing that a doppler radar measures is winds. If you are looking at an area with high winds and want to know if they are severe, the doppler radar will tell you how strong they are (i.e., whether they are over 55 miles per hour). The doppler radar will also tell you what direction the wind is coming from and where it's going to go (i.e., north or east).
The Different Types of Doppler Radar
There are three different types of doppler radar which help measure different things. The first type of doppler radar is WSR-88D or NEXRAD and it measures rain rate, wind speed and direction, temperature and humidity in addition to precipitation. The second type of doppler radar is called TDWR or TEMPO and it measures rainfall rates over a very short period of time. The third type of doppler radar is called ASOS or AWOS. These two radars monitor aviation weather conditions such as visibility and cloud cover.
What does Doppler Radar Measure? It Measures Rain Rate, Wind Speed and Direction, Temperature, Humidity and Precipitation: The National Weather Service uses these measurements to make forecasts by predicting what will happen next with the weather.
The Advantages and Disadvantages of Doppler Radar
Doppler radar is an important tool for meteorologists. What does a doppler radar do? It provides information about wind speed and direction, temperature, and more. However, it can take hours before a storm has enough energy to be detected by this weather tool. Other disadvantages include not being able to detect storms that are too low in the atmosphere or located near mountains or buildings. There are some advantages of using doppler radar though! For example, a doppler radar may be able to detect rainfall from thunderstorms with little rainfall accumulation. When these types of storms occur, we need this type of technology because sometimes the heaviest rain occurs outside of where people live.
