hello hello, i'm curious about what your process is like for making gifs. i've never done it and i like knowing the behind the scenes work of making art if you're comfortable sharin

my giffing skills r super basic i mostly just choose scenes and recolor them so there is not a lot to it? but the process does differ slightly depending on the show. i did get into giffing because of tdj and by the time i had started making tdj gifs i had already watched the whole show like 5 times so with that i already knew with details had impacted me the most, the frames that had awed me the most so i wanted to highlight them and thats why i started the faceless(-ish) tdj per ep series! but also yohan hot and gaon looks so good all angry and bothered so those scenes are also a fave to me. tdj is just such an intentionally crafted show and giffing it has made me appreciate it so much more

coming to other shows i mostly just choose scenes where i notice something cool? could be a parallel, cool lighting, good framing or just my fave suffering lol

currently im very attached to love in the big city and my fave thing bout giffing it is how the shots just linger?? in certain scenes? giffing to me feels like putting the scenes in a little time capsule so i can look at them forever.

coming to the technical stuff i use a ☠️ vers of photoshop and mostly just play around with which frames i want to use and which coloring looks alright to me? (i can deffo link the tutorials which are my holy grail lemme know if u want them!) and when some gifs don't make it to the final set they end up in gif graveyard!

Some things I've noticed while rewatching tdj ep 5:

-jukchang calls yohan by his first name and nothing else, no honorifics, in his youtube lives. KYH is undoubtedly older + theyre not even remotely close personally yet he casually addresses him like yohan is one of his "brothers" (indicating a false sense of closeness people may have with the persona of Yohan they see on TV ? But most address him as Judge Kang rather than his first name alone...)

-gaon helps himself to bottled water in yohan's fridge while talking to Ms Ji (the kitchen is now Gaon's realm. Whatever Yohan has bought to be stocked in the fridge or the pantry is free real estate)

- yohan does little nods while eating the dinner Gaon made for him. Food so good he agreed with it. (the same evening he called Soohyun to eat out ? He left a homecooked meal for Yohan while he wasnt there. I guess Gaon went back to the house after work, cooked,left a message with the AI butler, went out again)

-Soohyun going "whatever happened in that house..." and Prof Min being like "I haven't heard much of you since you started living at Kang Yohan's". 🏳️‍🌈🤨📸

so uhm here’s my small silly little list of some tdj fic that has altered my soul because let me tell you. when a tdj fic hits it HITS. so maybe there’ll be a fic here that you haven’t read that you’ll enjoy here

these are all gahan because yes and also all completed because i’ve been hurt too many times before. also i love all of these fics very dearly so they’re not in any order

➣ Gaon keeps attempting to fix things, but somehow, one part always seems to be missing.

➣ for me, this is THE post-canon gahan fic. what stands out for me is while gaon may be awfully lovesick, he doesn’t completely isolate himself - still maintains and forms friendships with people. watching the development of this and the way he heals is EXQUISITE and it’s written EXQUISITELY. the yearning has a wonderful payoff too. it’s just really fucking amazing guys plz read it

➣ Teen, ~22k words, Ep 13 canon divergence

➣ As grateful as Ga On is that Soo Hyun rescued him from Bamboo Spear's violent mob, he can tell she's lying when she claims to have heard about it on the police radio. That explanation just doesn't add up. So Ga On pressures her to tell the truth and, to his surprise, she reveals that Kang Yo Han was the one who sent her.

That one simple admission sets off a series of events that Ga On could never have predicted — events that bring out feelings he's done his best to ignore.

And desires he realizes he might not be strong enough to resist.

➣ i like how this fic doesn’t ignore how strongly gaon obviously feels for soohyun - i mean she’s been the only person for him to rely on for years. yet despite that, gaon works through what he actually wants and feels and chooses yohan. i cannot get over how well gaon’s inner thoughts are written. in fact, i can not get over how well the characters are written, full stop.

➣ i love episode rewrites! really wish this is what happened in episode 12 ngl. absolute nailed the characters and their mannerisms and their incredibly hot dynamic. there’s some lines in this that making me go fucking feral - an absolute masterpiece when it comes to that and the writing overall is just great. i come back to this a lot just to scream

➣ i come back to this one a lot because there’s something so tender and delicate about it that i love. it paints such a beautiful picture. it’s written so wonderfully and it’s so just ugh everything i really just melt when i think about it

The Devil Judge Rewatch Ep 11 (Part 4)

Continuation of Part 4, which can be found here.

In these final two posts on Ep 11, I just want to share the last moment we get to see the Kang family being happy together. And that includes Gaon and Ms Ji, who together with Yohan and Elijah - they're a family that no one should tear apart.

In the original script, they were supposed to play cards - cause of the last episode when Yohan had said he didn't know what to do with cards. And Gaon wanted to introduce some card games to them (and got whipped in the process, losing to the two who had caught on fast and were way too smart for him).

But the director had changed to Jenga cause card games - there's the hassle of having to explain how to play them to the audience. And that's boring, slowing the drama down. Hence, he had gone with Jenga, which nearly everyone knows how to play, gifting us such beautiful scenes that's so loved by the TDJ fandom.

Just love Elijah's expression, every time she didn't win.

And here's Gaon loving his family by offering food to them.

Then we have Yohan, making his grand appearance and seeing everyone so happy.

And wearing suspenders and a shirt with buttons looking about to burst open. Gosh, just thinking of that well-toned chest and that Gaon got to enjoy it every night...

Then Yohan running away when asked if he want to play. 🤣

And I love Gaon for not giving up on him even though Elijah had said that Yohan wasn't into such games.

And look at Gaon, with that soft and warm and sweet smile for Yohan.

What kind of lame reason is that, Yohan!

And then being this charmingly cute with his expressions.

Only to act like a brat who deserves a slap to the back of his head.

You know, it’s been a month since the finale but i’m still on TDJ brainrot and thinking about

1. Does Gaon knew Yohan get shot, and K was killed

2. Does Gaon knew Yohan was the who called Soohyun to save him

3. Will Gaon ever see Elijah’s painting of him

4. How did Yohan knew where and when to save Gaon from the bomb (and the conversation that follows to this information)

5. What are their internal thoughts on the last scene of the series, or like what was their direction on script??? (You know the filming script and the original script are different)

6. What’s going on in Yohan’s head when he heard Gaon said “I’ll go with you”

7. And when Yohan realized that Gaon has been manipulated all along that made him looked at Gaon and said “Gaon-ah” just before the professor left

everytime i rewatch tdj ep 5 gaon's dream gets gayer

*clears throat* here's my take on Soohyun that no one asked for but which I will give because why not lmao.

As a disclaimer - I genuinely do not care if Gaon and Soohyun are endgame (they might be and are cute and if they don't well that's entirely up to the writer because this drama evidently is a lot more than romance). They actually have a very sweet relationship and there's subtext that they like each other as well there's also a lot going on at the Kang household that people can choose to interpret however they like.

Soohyun's character issues are beyond her relationship with Gaon why that is not the topic of discussion is beyond me lol.

1. She's got a hero complex- this is self explanatory

2. Unlike Gaon she's very unwavering - which in itself is a good thing but being so stubborn on self righteous ideals without providing alternatives to tackling situations is ultimately just stubbornness which she is.

3. She's been giving Gaon false hope - she probably meant this with the best of intentions but trying to hide the reality of situations while ignoring the problems it is building is just not right. I'd rather have someone who shows me the truth of the situation rather than cover it up with false statements of hope. And again she's not doing this out of malintent, but it's not what Gaon needs.

4. That entire scene in the opening of ep 9 - leaving Elijah alone in a car - problematic, simply circling around mobsters and glaring - pointless, getting mad at Yohan for getting mad at the person who tried to hurt his niece - was literally such a ridiculous move?? He had every right to go batshit but her strongest anger was directed at Yohan out of everyone there because she simply chose to antagonise him off a few vague details Gaon has given her.

5. On that note, Elijah has every right to a friend and I adore that Soohyun gives her that opportunity, however Yohan is not wrong in saying Elijah shouldn't trust just about anyone, the fact that she immediately asks for a file as soon as she's just met Elijah doesn't sit well. It's also not a good move that she doesn't let Yohan know (as the responsible adult of the scenario) that she's taking Elijah out. So her character in many ways is contradictory in principle and in reality just does what she wants.

6. Adding to that note that's completely normal and human which is what I love?? Tdj is really showing humans for what they are, I'm repeating but literally everyone is self-serving no matter how you look at it but the degree of this is variant. Her character is meant to be a reminder of the stubborn hope that should exist in the system because anything else would be chaos. Her character is supposed to remind us that there's some people that are unwaveringly good but the process when good is much slower and often doesn't deliver adeqaute results. Her character is supposed to remind us that sometimes these righteous people will go out of their way to fix shit (given that she's literally always throwing herself into danger - which is problematic but we've already covered that).

7. We exist in a society where we are inclined to dislike her values. I for one certainly do not vibe with her because of how overly reactive she is and because she keeps saying I'll do something about it, I'll figure it out, you stay out of it but she's not really doing anything substantive to solve the issue. But regardless we need a character that is a reminder. Gaon is the unwavering one, people are often Gaon but we need a reminder that there's just straight up stubborn faith and hope as well.

i saw people making list of the shows they watched last year so i decided to make one too 💞 i’m putting it under read more because i rambled too much

top 10 shows i watched last year:

the devil judge - yes, i decided to be honest with myself asdfghjs it is THE show of 2021 for me. yes, i know it has flaws, no it doesn’t matter to me <3 i love yoh- *one of my non tdj mutuals shoots me*

word of honor - wenzhou invented love, loyalty and devotion, also they saved my life 💗 this show changed the rest of the year for me, inspired me to start making gifs again and helped me survive the worst moments of 2021

the untamed (2019) - do i even have to say anything. i should’ve watched it 2 years ago!!! 

my country: the new age (2019) - i’m forever indebted to anyone who recommended me this series. so heartbreaking and beautiful, it made me go insane </3 mutuals watch it pls 

vincenzo - so refreshing!! it gave me my best friend hanseo 🥰 i'm forever in denial about that ending tho

move to heaven - so, so beautiful and important. i’d recommend it to anyone!!

prison playbook (2017) - PEAK BROMANCE. it was so funny and heartwarming, i would watch it for lee joonho alone 

mine - KIM SEOHYUNG!!! WOMEN!!!! this drama was sooo satisfying, i loved the mystery and all the complicated relationships. also lesbian milfs

navillera - made me cry almost every episode lmao but i love crying so 

a tale of thousand stars - last few eps were a bit underwhelming but it’s still my favorite bl of 2021. tian and phupha’s chemistry was insane!!

other shows i liked a lot:

run on - i’m just not a fan of romance dramas... but this series gave me lee younghwa 💕 i keep him in a jar next to my bed :)

d.p. - difficult to watch but i enjoyed it a lot! han hoyeol my beloved 💓

beyond evil - very solid series, would make it to top 10 if not for the fact that i had to watch it on 2x speed 

to my star - so soft and comforting, i’m excited for season 2!!

shows i watched but didn’t enjoy:

kill me, heal me (2015) - i only watched it for ji sung, it was a bit too cringy for me and the incest part... wtf 

guardian (2018) - shen wei my beloved <333 10 amazing scenes, the rest was crappy (but it’s still very dear to me)

strangers from hell (2019) - lee dong wook was absolutely amazing in this, but it was boring and felt like hannibal rip off... 

shows i started in 2021 but haven’t finished yet:

kieta hatsukoi - ida!!!! best boy!!!! i will finish watching it soon, i absolutely adore this drama

bad buddy - i’m just not emotionally stable enough to watch it every week adfghks, i will catch up when it ends and i know it will be in my top 10 next year

bad and crazy - only 6 episodes aired as of today but i’m obsessed with it. i’m predicting it will be in my top 5 dramas next year. i just love pathetic men :)

shows i dropped:

lovely writer - uhhhh. i’ve seen so many thai dramas i developed standards, sorry

miss the dragon - i only started it because of the pretty main actor, dropped it after 6 eps </3

squid game - i don’t like violent and cruel stories, watched 2 eps and it was enough

the flaming heart - i’m sorry gong jun </3 i watched more than 10 episodes i think? it wasn’t bad bad but i just lost interest

you make me dance - too cringy :( 

alice in borderland (2020) - i only watched it for machida keita so you probably know why i dropped it adfghjs maaaybe i will finish it one day because it wasn’t bad, idk

The Devil Judge Rewatch Ep 10 (Part 5)

For the final bit, I just want to gush over some more domestic bliss between the two of them.

And here we have what can be called a signature scene in the TDJ fandom.

This is as domestic as it can ever be. And I like to imagine their conversation going like this.

Yohan: Come here, Gaon.

And Gaon walking over and sitting down nervously - wondering what had Yohan looking so serious.

Yohan: I've been thinking...

And Gaon stared at Yohan, being all attentive.

Yohan: Isn't it time you move into my room? We've been married since Ep 4, and even the audience know we've been making out in our car and in my office. So let's stop pretending we ain't a couple and make it official, shall we?

Yohan's words, they had Gaon going...

Before he had...

Gaon: Then, why are you still sitting there?

And Yohan gladly jumping up to help him pack The two of them celebrating their first night sleeping in the same bed, by making sure neither got to sleep at all, the entire night.

Of course, this didn't happen in the drama. And they were actually talking about how to get their hands on Jukchang.

And I dunno why Yohan had to act like this.

It's such a come-hither, I'm-seducing-you body language.

And sometimes I like to imagine it's Yohan asking...

Yohan: Do you want to have sex?

And Gaon going...
