District Pride Photos

Those of you who follow The Capitol is Watching (and if you don't, you should go do that right now) should know of the District Pride photos that the Capitol seems to be collecting.

I want to encourage our district to get out and show our pride. You can send your photos into the Capitol in the TCIW tumblr, and to the Capitol directly here pride@welcometopanem.com

And I encourage you to submit your District 5 photos here! If you are uncomfortable showing your face, I understand. You can find ways to block out your face, but I do suggest you show your right hand, wherever you decide, with your thumb holding your pinky and ring finger down in the old world sign for u representing our Unity.

Most importantly, have fun with it :) Even if the circumstances in Panem grow more dire each day, that doesn't mean we shouldn't strive to be happy and have fun. I always find myself have a better performance at anything I do when I'm having fun!

EXCLUSIVE FIRST LOOK: The Gamemakers Break The Silence On Welcome To Panem Website

Earlier this year, a mysterious pair of websites appeared; one which encouraged citizens of Panem to sign up for tesserae and the other titled ‘Government of Panem‘ which featured a lock, a countdown clock and the message, “See you in October.”

Last month, a sub-page to the WelcomeToPanem site appeared in the form of the Mellark Bakery where visitors could ‘order’ a loaf of bread.

The only hint, thus far, to the intention of the site is contained within the disclaimer at the bottom of the tesserae page:

Please know that PanemOctober is a fan-made ARG for the Hunger Games upcoming film. We have past experience developing fan-made ARGs and October will launch an amazing, seriously extensive ARG for the fans, by the fans. This website is in no way affiliated with Scholastic, Lionsgate Films, Suzanne Collins or any HG-related officials.

For those unfamiliar with the acronym, ARG stands for Alternate Reality Game.  According to wikipedia:

An alternate reality game (ARG) is an interactive narrative that uses the real world as a platform, often involving multiple media and game elements, to tell a story that may be affected by participants’ ideas or actions.

The form is defined by intense player involvement with a story that takes place in real-time and evolves according to participants’ responses, and characters that are actively controlled by the game’s designers, as opposed to being controlled by artificial intelligence as in a computer or console video game. Players interact directly with characters in the game, solve plot-based challenges and puzzles, and often work together with a community to analyze the story and coordinate real-life and online activities. ARGs generally use multimedia, such as telephones, email and mail but rely on the Internet as the central binding medium.

It seems, however, that the Gamemakers responsible for the PanemOctober movement are finally ready to break their silence on the site (at least a little).  Two days ago, I was contacted by the Head Gamemaker who informed me that the Capitol would allow me to ask three questions about the site.  Here is my very short interview:

DWTC: What can we expect from the Welcome to Panem site in October; are there any clues or details you can give us?

HG: Although I cannot give details regarding the specifics of what is to come, I have prepared an answer for this question. October will begin a month that no District Resident has ever seen before. The residents will be both excited, yet terrified. Members who registered for the tesserae can expect to be split off from their fellow districts and be shown the reality of Panem. “The Capitol Is Watching” Tumblr may have a primary goal to unite the districts: but I promise you that we will destroy this notion. We can tell you that residents will be very busy from October until March, when the Games really do begin. DWTC: You added the Mellark Bakery to your site last month, and we’ve all ordered our bread– are there other sites you’ll be adding in the future?

HG: I believe it is safe to say “Yes”. We launched a small (subsite) for the Bakery as a way to prolong the residents’ excitement… but unfortunately, there is nothing to come until October. A country cannot function without a financial system, grocery store, press outlets, television, etc. I think it is safe to say that the residents of Panem will be exposed to a wide variety of challenges, as they experience in their everyday lives already. DWTC: You’ve put out a call for District pictures, can you give us any hints of what you need them for or how they’ll be used?

HG: We cannot give you any information regarding the specific use of the photos. We do promise you that it will not be for inappropriate use, by any means. The photos will be used in the PanemOctober Games in order to represent various Districts and the people who come from them.

Okay citizens, its time to show the Gamemakers who is boss. WE WILL REMAIN UNIFIED NO MATTER WHAT THE GAMEMAKERS DO.

Fuckyeahdistrict12 has been heavily involved in this PANEMOCTOBER business since it began. If you wish to participate, Please follow these steps:

please add yourself to the district list. You can do this by getting a district and signing up on WWW.HUNGERGAMESTESSERAE.COM. After that, put what district you got in my ask box. Remember to not go anon, or I won't know who you are. I will then add you to the other 700 citizens already on the list.

Follow THECAPITOLISWATCHING . This tumblr is in charge of all the panemoctober stuff and we are working together with the district leaders and citizens to come up with a plan for our rebellion. Familiarize yourself by going onto their FAQ page as well as clicking on the "Welcome Districts" page. There are also clues hidden on the tumblr as to what our next move is concerning the rebellion.

Keep an eye out. Be vigilant. Be watchful. Because the Capitol is watching us.
