YOKOTSU WEDNESDAY/VALENTINES SPECIAL!
❤︎ Purple Hearts and Chocolate Tarts ❤︎
——
“Heyyy! Kou! Kou, Kou Kou Kou-“
Minamoto Kou tried his best to ignore the infamous ghost boy floating above his head, blocking his view of the black board in the front of the class, and drowning out the teacher’s voice with his obnoxious pestering. But, curse his ability to even see supernaturals, it would have been easier if he could see through the boy’s head even a little bit.
He continued writing on his paper, and tried to listen to the teacher’s words, even as the boy was now poking him everywhere. It made him a little ticklish, so he swatted away the boy’s hand as subtly as possible.
“Kou, Kou! Exorcist boy? Why are you ignoring me?”
Kou’s eyebrow twitched, and he finally had enough, so he abstained trying to harm the ghost, and instead wrote angrily on his paper.
‘ Could u not bother me in class ‘
The ghost boy looked at it, once again getting in front of Kou’s face to look down at the paper, making his hat brush the blonde’s face slightly.
“You spelled ‘you’ wrong.” The boy pointed out, snatching Kou’s pencil out of his hand without looking up, and adding a ‘y’ and ‘o’ to Kou’s word.
Kou was starting to lose patience with the ghost.
Irritated even more, he wrote again.
‘ Wtf do YOU want ‘
“… What is that?” The boy asked Kou, pointing at the acronym he wrote.
‘Are you f**king serious?’ Kou thought, rubbing his face.
‘ Wtf do YOU want
 WHAT THE F**K ‘
“… Oh!” The boy said, unbothered. “Your friend, his name is Yokoo. Right?”
He paused from writing down whatever was on the board, looking up from his notebook and turning towards the ghost.
Before he realized that he may have looked weird to everyone else, he went back to his notebook.
‘ How do you know him? ‘
“I’ve watched you talk with him!”
Kou decided to ask ‘why were you watching me talk with Yokoo’ later. Right now, he just wanted the ghost out of his face.
‘ That’s his name ‘
“Do you know what his favorite sweets are? Or favorite chocolates?”
‘ Why do you want to know??? ‘
“Because, Valentine’s Day is in one days, isn’t it?”
Kou was even more confused now. And he was too confused to write back, so he didn’t, and instead, looked at the time only to figure out it was almost the end of 5th period.
While gathering his stuff, ready for the bell to ring, the ghost was being annoying as always, poking and prodding Kou for his attention again, since Kou never answered his question.
“Is that a ‘no’ or what? Kou, Kou, Kouuu.”
Kou was able to make it out of the classroom, walking to a corner somewhere he made sure no one was watching, alongside the ghost boy who followed him.
“Kou, Kou, aaaanswer me-“
“Jesus Christ, can you give me a second to breathe?!” Kou finally spoke once he pressed himself against the wall and turned to the ghost.
Yugi Tsukasa smiled wide, knowing that Kou was now able to speak to him. He stopped poking Kou’s shoulder and laid his hand limp in front of him.
“Do you know what Yokoo’s favorite sweets are?” He asked again, tilted his head to the side.
“Why are you concerned again? Yeah, Valentine’s Day is coming up, so what? What are you planning?” Kou responded with another question, squinting his eyes at Tsukasa in suspicion.
Tsukasa opened his mouth to answer, but then shut it, and looked up in thought.
He looked back at Kou with another smile, putting his hands behind his back.
“Welllll, I can’t tell you!”
“… Wha?” Kou blanked.
“It’ll ruin my surprise!”
Well that was even more suspicious. But, he thought a little more, and then it clicked.
“You want to give chocolates.. To Yokoo?”
Tsukasa hummed and looked to the side, having his hands behind his back, wearing a giddy expression that Kou couldn’t read to guess his intentions.
“That doesn’t matter!” Tsukasa exclaimed, getting in Kou’s face once again. “What are Yokoo’s favorite sweets?!”
“I don’t know, ok! Get back a little!” Kou pushed Tsukasa an inch away from him.
Tsukasa deflated a little, “You don’t know? But, aren’t you friends with him? You should know.”
Kou rolled his eyes, “Well, sorry I didn’t ask him specifically what his favorite snacks are.”
“Well, go ask him then!” Tsukasa interrupted, swiftly floating behind Kou and pushing him away from the corner and through the hallway, heading towards his classroom.
Kou stopped him short, skidding on his heels to a stop, arguing that he’ll do it without Tsukasa forcing him.
So, the blonde walked back into the classroom like nothing happened, waving at his friends who claimed to be waiting for him. With the ghost boy watching closely by the doors of his class.
Kou started talking with his friends. Yokoo was mostly doing the talking, Satouu was busy enjoying his candies he had for a snack, and Kou was quietly listening, waiting for the right time to ask the question.
“Oh! I almost forgot, Valentine’s Day is coming up you guys, in 1 day! Tomorrow!!” Yokoo exclaimed, slightly startling Satouu, who was barely listening to him ramble.
Kou perked up at that.
“I’m so excited! Valentine’s Day is my favorite holiday, second to Christmas though.”
“I bet it is.” Satouu said sarcastically.
Yokoo nodded, “It’s all about love, friendships and spending money on others you care about.”
Yokoo scooted closer to Satouu, dispersing his personal space bubble, which he was used to already when having a physically affectionate friend like Yokoo.
He looked at Satouu with sparkling eyes, “Do you think I’ll get a gift this year?” Batting his eyelashes.
“Well, I don’t know.”
Yokoo deflated at Satouu's blankness.
“Do you think you will get something?”
“I don’t know. I don’t really care that much though.”
The brown haired boy sighed, and then turned to the blonde across from him.
“What about you, Kou?”
“.. Uh,” Kou paused to eye Tsukasa from the corner of his eye, who was still watching him to see what he’d do.
He thought this was a good time to ask.
“No, not really.. But, if you were to get something for Valentine’s Day, what would you want?”
His friend tilted his head, and took a second to think. “Well… I would want…”
Yokoo smiled sincerely, “I would like anything, honestly.”
Kou sweatdropped, and slightly turned his head back to the ghost boy, who was carefully listening to everything.
“It’s the thought that counts, right?”
“.. Yeah, it does I guess.” Kou chuckled.
Ok, new question.
“What’s your favorite snack anyways Yokoo, like a sweet, chocolate?”
“My favorite chocolate? It’d definitely be nama chocolate! It’s soo good.”
Kou could see Tsukasa floating closer to them, now being behind him and his friends, sitting on the brown long drawers in their classroom and leaning in with interest.
His eyes snapped back to his friends, who were now talking about how delicious nama chocolate was.
“What’s your prefered flavor?” Kou asked Yokoo.
“Milk chocolate is good! I haven’t really tried the other flavors, anyways.”
The blonde boy nodded, and continued to casually talk with his friends, looking at Tsukasa one more time before he floated away and out of the classroom.
The bell suddenly rang, signaling that the last period of the day was in session.
Kou wondered what Tsukasa would do with the information about Yokoo now, as he tried to pay attention to the teacher. Even though this was the most boring class in his opinion.
——
The ghostly pest bothered Kou again as soon as he got out of class, getting into his face a 4th time that day and speaking fastly, he could barely catch the words Tsukasa was saying.
“Whoa, could you slow down a bit?”
Tsukasa repeated himself, “How do you make nama chocolate??”
“Oh. Well, I don’t know.”
Tsukasa paused, taken aback.
“You don’t know?! I thought you knew how to bake?!”
“I do! I just haven’t made homemade chocolates before.”
The ghost boy slumped his shoulders in disappointment.”But, it’s a deadline! Valentine’s Day is on Wednesday, it’s tomorrow, how am I supposed to make the chocolates?!”
Tsukasa says it like he’s panicking, pacing back and forth a little bit off the ground, having his head up in thought.
“D**n, calm down, calm down! You could ask me to help you make them. I haven’t done it before, but that doesn’t mean I can’t just search up the recipe and copy it.” Kou tried to reassure him, sweat dropping because he’s never seen the boy like this.
Tsukasa snapped his head back to Kou and gasped.
“Can you help me Kou, pleeeeeasse?” Tsukasa pleaded, once again, getting into Kou’s face.
Kou pushed him back, again, and nodded solemnly, seeing Tsukasa’s previous uncharacteristic frown turn into his usual bright fanged smile.
“Thank you, thank you!”
“No problem, I guess. To make the chocolates, I’m going to have to research the recipe and see what ingredients I need.” Kou explained, walking past Tsukasa.
“Where are you going?” Tsukasa asked, floating back to Kou’s side again as he was walking.
“I’ll quickly search them up, and get the ingredients from that one convenience store by this school.” Kou answered.
“You, go to the home ec room and wait until I get back. We’ll make the chocolates there.”
Tsukasa nodded rapidly in agreement, quickly dashing to the home economics classroom. Kou started towards the exit of the building, scrolling through the Google page he had open, showing him the ingredients to make nama chocolate.
‘Good quality chocolate, whatever that may be.. Heavy cream.. Alcohol? In chocolate? Definitely not.’
Kou continued to scroll, ignoring the text message notifications that popped up on his screen so he could memorize the information first.
‘Unsalted butter, and cocoa powder.’
Kou added that to his memory bank, and checked on the message he got. He opened it, to figure out the text was from his older brother.
Teru-nii: Kou, where are you? I came to pick you up from the middle school building, but I couldn’t find you so I went to that old female bathroom instead.
Kou: I’m sry nii-san, I’m going to come home a little late today. I have to help a classmate bake something in the home ec room.
It won’t last long, it’s just chocolate.
I’m heading to the convenience store rn.
Teru-nii: Oh, ok. Be safe!
Kou: Ok!
He definitely couldn’t tell Teru that he was helping a supernatural make chocolates for his friend for Valentine's Day. So he lied instead. Hopefully his brother wouldn’t see through it.
Kou hastily looked for the ingredients in the store. Chocolate, heavy cream, butter and cocoa powder. He checked his phone one last time, just to make sure he got the recipe right. On Google, on the bottom of the ROYCE website link he could see another nama chocolate recipe, but they were tarts instead.
He got an idea, and texted his friend Yokoo, asking him if he liked chocolate tarts.
Through text, Yokoo said he loved them, and Kou grabbed a small pack of sweet tart crusts.
Speedily, he paid for the items, quickly walked down the sidewalks, back to Kamome, through the halls of the high school building, and ran to the home economics room.
When Kou arrived there, he busted through the doors exhaughtedly. It almost startled Tsukasa, but he had been eyeing the door anyway.
Tsukasa jumped on Kou in joy and excitement, commenting on how fast it actually took for Kou to go get the stuff and come all the way back there.
The blonde boy didn’t respond, as he was too busy catching his breath.
He slowly walked over to one of the counters, placing the plastic bag full of the needed ingredients on it.
As soon as Kou caught his breath, he took off his jacket, rolled up his sleeve to clean his hands, and instructed Tsukasa on what to do.
“Ok, runt, get out a bowl and a big spoon from out of the cabinets over there, then get a saucepan from that cabinet.” He demanded, pointing at the said cabinets. “And then wash them out.”
Tsukasa compelled, hurrying over to the cabinets and getting the bowl, saucepan and spoon, then floating to the sink and washing them, like he was told to do.
The ghost placed both kitchen materials onto the counter Kou stood at, and turned to him, asking for the next step eagerly.
“Next, we have to add the Meiji chocolates into the bowl along with the unsalted butter.”
Tsukasa did exactly as Kou said.
“I’ll heat the heavy cream, I don’t trust you near the fire.” Kou grabbed the heavy cream and saucepan. He put the pan onto the stove and poured the cream in it.
When the stove was on and heated, Kou began mixing it. It only took a minute for the cream to start bubbling, a signal for Kou to stop.
He carried the saucepan over to the chocolate and butter sitting in the bowl, and poured the cream onto it.
“We have to wait for 5 minutes before we can stir the ganache.”
Tsukasa floated towards him, “What’s ganache?”
Kou didn’t answer the question, only because he didn’t feel like it.
After 5 minutes, Kou allowed Tsukasa to mix the ingredients together, still keeping his eyes on him so he didn’t mess up somehow.
“Uh- don’t make it come out of the bowl! Stop mixing so fast!” Kou said, when the melted chocolate dropped from outside the bowl because the ghost boy stirred a bit too quickly.
Kou took his eyes off of Tsukasa for a moment, so he could unwrap the tart crusts and put the chocolate mix inside.
Tsukasa looked over at his companion, looking over the blonde’s shoulder to see the tarts he was handling.
“What is that?”
Kou thought that this guy asked too many questions.
“They’re tart crusts. We’re not just going to make chocolates anymore, we’re making nama chocolate tarts!”
He guessed it’s his fault for not saying that sooner.
Abandoning his tasks, that was technically done, to float over to Kou, he got close again to peer at the crust.
“Does Yokoo want chocolate tarts?” He asked.
“I messaged him, he said that he liked them, so I thought it would be a good idea to give him those instead. We just have to make it the regular way, but put the chocolate into the tarts.”
Tsukasa processed the information, and then obliged, being in a crisscross position in the air and watching Kou put the chocolate into the tarts and stuff it in the fridge.
“How long does it take to cool them?” He asked again.
“3 to 4 hours.” Kou answered.
Tsukasa suddenly groaned, throwing his head to the side. “That will take forever though!”
“It isn’t that long. Be patient!”
Kou pulled out his phone, “I’ll set a timer.”
His ghost companion sighed, resting his chin on his balled up hand, and floated away. Not so far, just to mess and probe with everything and anything in the room to keep himself busy.
The blonde didn’t bother to tell the black haired boy off, and just sat down and busied himself with his phone while he waited.
Tsukasa at one point had got all up in Kou’s phone screen, dumping a sh** ton of unnecessary questions for him, again.
“What are you doing? What is that you’re watching?”
“How do you use that thing anyways? Is it hard to do so?”
“Can you teach me how to use it? Sakura and Natsuhiko refuse to, for some reason.”
Kou tried to ignore him, for the third time that day, but then Tsukasa wrapped his arms around his neck, and leaned in close to watch whatever he was watching on his phone.
Kou would push him away, but he knew Tsukasa would probably just keep nagging him.
At some point both of the boys got bored, and started to play would you rather randomly. Although Tsukasa has never played it before, he got the hang of it easily.
Even though his answers were a bit unhinged.
Three hours passed, it was now 6:00 PM, and Kou didn’t think he could possibly stay in school for another hour, his big brother would start to get worried again.
So he took the chocolate tarts out of the fridge, and thankfully, they were just as he planned them to be.
“Ok, they’re done!” He told Tsukasa, who was already right behind him, staring at the tarts he took out of the fridge.
The ghost clapped his hands together excitedly, floating beside Kou as he placed them on the counter.
“There’s your chocolate tarts, for Yokoo. You’re welcome!” He said.
And then rushes to get his jacket and backpack on, ready to leave so he could get home before the night is complete.
But then he heard Tsukasa hum, and glanced at him to see him examining the desserts.
“What?” Kou asks Tsukasa.
Tsukasa doesn’t answer right away, until he makes a noise like he realized something. Kou sees smoke start to surround the ghost, and only stares in confusion.
When the black, airy smoke clears, Tsukasa turns to the blonde, and presents him a bag of chocolates.
Mini ones, colored light pink and carved like hearts.
“I had these! I think we should put them in the center of the chocolate tarts!” He suggests, pointing to the desserts.
Kou walks back over to Tsukasa, who is already gently placing the heart chocolates in the middle of the tarts.
He steps back to observe his handiwork, and Kou does the same.
They both agree that they were cute looking.
Kou takes out his phone to take a picture of them, and once he does that Tsukasa lifts one chocolate tart from the tray, and breaks it in half easily, holding one piece out to Kou so they both could try them.
The boys took a bite of the tart at the same time, and beams at each other.
“These are so good!” Tsukasa said.
Kou agrees in contentment.
“Well, I have to go,” he says when he’s done eating the dessert, continuing to gather his stuff. “I’m going home for today.”
And when Kou walks out of the room with no word from the ghost boy, he feels a chilly air surrounding him, once again, and turns his head to the side to see that it was Tsukasa. He wondered what else the boy could want, but he ignored him since he wasn’t saying anything.
Tsukasa follows Kou all the way to the front doors of Kamome. The blonde boy turns around to Tsukasa, slightly ushering him to say something, because he seemed to want to.
“Thank you, Kou.” Tsukasa says, smiling at Kou cheerfully. “I’ll see you tomorrow on Valentine’s Day!!”
Those are his last words, before he disappears in a puff of pure black smog Kou refuses to inhale, thanks to his hitodama.
The human boy mumbled, “You're welcome..” To the ghost boy who’s already gone, and makes his way home at last.
——
Yokoo Shun skips into the middle school building with an inner euphoria, looking forward to the day he’s currently living.
Because today’s Valentine’s Day, his second favorite holiday of all.
He instantly spots one of his best friends, Satouu Yomogi, standing by his locker that’s right next to his own.
He jumps out on Satouu, intentions of surprising him, which he succeeds. The black haired boy startles, but quickly recovers and hits Yokoo’s shoulder as they’re right next to each other.
“Don’t do that, it’s too early..” Satouu complains.
Yokoo just laughs it off and moves to take off his shoes, to replace them with the indoor school shoes.
“Oh, hey, look at this Yokoo.” Satouu says to get his friend’s attention.
Yokoo turns to Satouu, watching him open his locker and pulls out something.
That something is a heart shaped box, a magenta satin ribbon tied around it in a small bow, and with a pastel pink card held in place because of the ribbon.
“I found this in my locker..”
Yokoo stands up instantly at the sight of the thing, even though he only has one shoe on, as the other one was in his hand.
“IS THAT GIFT, FOR YOU SATOU?!!”
Satouu shushes him, but that’s not enough to cover his utter shock and rising excitement as he clasps his hand together rapidly.
“Oh my god, oh my god! Satouu, you got a Valentine's gift!!” He tries to whisper-squeal this time.
“Well, I don’t know.. I guess?”
“Yes, yes you did! Open it, see what’s inside! Hurry!!”
“Ok, ok!” Satouu complies.
He gently unties the loose bow and holds the ribbon detached from the box in his left hand, and uses his right hand to lift the top lid off.
Satouu opens it all the way to find chocolates, those regular different flavored chocolates that people give to others on this specific day.
He suspected it would be that anyway.
“Read the card to see who gave it to you, Satouu!” Yokoo enthusiastically rushed him again, flapping his hands in anticipation, clearly more energetic than his black haired friend.
Satouu does what his friend tells him, flipping the lid back onto the box and taking hold of the pink card on the front.
He opens it, and feels Yokoo scoot closer so that he’s right in his face, face directly in the card much that Satouu can barely see the contents of it.
What’s inside of the card is definitely not a greeting like, ‘Dear Satouu’, and not an outro like ‘Sincerely/from/regards/yours truly’. Inside was only big, bold ghastly handwriting that smeared across both folds of the card, looking too inky and almost saturated to be from a pen or a pencil.
‘Satouu’
Only his name, in the dead center. No saying of who wrote the card in the first place, or gave him the chocolates.
The boys squinted their eyes at the right bottom corner of the card, and saw a message with a much neater appearance.
‘Enjoy the sweets!’
They stood in silence, only observing the card more as Satouu flipped to the front to try and find anything else informative, though, the front was just the plain pink paper with a purple heart in the middle.
“That’s… Weird?” He uttered, going back to the inside of the card.
“It doesn’t say who it’s from. And why does the writing look like that?” Yokoo spoke, implying the center of the card with the weird looking handwriting.
“Maybe, they wanted to stay anonymous..?” Satouu assumes.
“Well, it’s kind of creepy. Is this even ink or lead?”
Yokoo and Satouu give up on trying to find out for now, shrugging it off and deeming it a mystery.
“I mean, at least you got a present!” Yokoo says with a smile again.
Satouu is now more unsure about the present than before, wondering if he should even take the chocolates and eat them. It was from a stranger for all he knows.
But… They are sweets.
He disagrees briefly, but instantly changes his mind because chocolates are chocolates.
Yokoo goes back to his previous tasks of replacing his shoes, because he’s sure they now have less time left until the bell rings and homeroom class starts. Sure, they both got to school early, but Yokoo wasn’t the best at keeping track of time. Totally opposite from his friend, standing beside him and waiting until he was done.
Yokoo opens his locker to grab the uniform shoes and put them on, not looking up from the ground once the locker is open, aiming to just grab them.
But once he pulls his hand out of the space of the locker, and realizes he’s grabbed something different instead of his shoes, he looks up.
It’s a box, a squared one, small but wide, colored lavender purple. He sees that he’s touching something soft and that it was a weird looking black thing his eyes had to adjust to and recognize slowly.
Tilting his head and peering closer, he still can’t figure out what it is or what it’s supposed to be. But, it feels like what a stuffed bear would feel like.
It’s black and round looking, with a singular big round eyeball, one small pupil in the center of the white in the eye. Little stubs were sticking out of the box as well as the head, and they looked like hands..?
“Hey.. Satouu, look at this.”
He catches his friend’s attention, who was looking at his phone while still waiting.
Satouu looks inside Yokoo’s locker without any thought. When he sees a purple box, with a sky magenta colored ribbon tied in a bow, he instantly thinks that Yokoo had received a present. He almost opens his mouth to spew out words of positivity, trying to match the energy of the boy who was just happy that he got a Valentine’s gift not so long ago, but then he acknowledges the obvious black thing sticking out of the box.
“.. What is that..?”
Yokoo exhales, because it felt like he was holding his breath that second. “I don’t… Know…”
He moves to interact with the mysterious small-but-a-little-bit-wide purple box, rotating it in his hands and studying it further. The rest of the box was plain. So he reaches for the ribbon, and pulls on it lightly so that it unties the bow made at the top.
He takes the top off and grips the ribbon with his fingers. Now he could see the top half of the black thing.
It’s still stubby and round, and he could now see little feet at the back of it’s short body. He picks it up, still holding the box with one hand.
It definitely feels like a plushie, and looks like one. Well, not really, it actually looks pretty odd. Not like a regular common stuffed bear people get on Valentine’s Day, the ones with heart shaped bellies, or hearts in their fingerless hands having a message like ‘I love you’ or some other cheesy romantic saying.
No, this was definitely not a bear. More like, if Yokoo were to describe it, a small black monster thing.
Yokoo lifts the plushie completely out of the box, and now he can see there’s more. A transparent plastic gift bag, it seems to be. He could see the contents of it, and they looked like tarts. Chocolate tarts. Mini ones, stacked on top of each other, with smaller pink heart chocolates in the middle. There were 6.
Satouu and Yokoo stand there for a few more seconds. Satouu being completely confused. And even more confused when his friend sees a little note attached to the back of the plastic bag.
Yokoo turns the bag, trying to read the handwriting that's so weirdly the same as the handwriting in Satouu’s card. Inky and messy, uncannily inhumane.
‘Yokoo’
‘Enjoy the chocolate tarts! :)’
Satouu thinks the smile looks sinister.
“Ok, now that’s weird. Is this a coincidence or something. Can’t be, we have our locker right next to one another. Could it be.. The same person who’s giving us these?” The black haired boy turns to Yokoo, and then back at his gifted heart chocolate box.
“Maybe it’s not a good idea to keep these. I want chocolates, but.. We don’t know who gave it to us. It could be a stranger with bad intentions! Don’t you think Yokoo?”
The brown haired boy doesn’t look like he’s listening, and he isn’t. Internally, his mind is blank.
For only another second, before it’s filled with rapid thoughts of unbridle elation and ecstasy.
‘This cannot be happening.’
‘Me, a present for me?’
‘Chocolate tarts, I love chocolate tarts!’
‘Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god someone gave me chocolate tarts!?’
‘They’re so cute too!’
‘Who could have gave me these though, there is no name?..’
“Hey, hey Yokoo, did you hear what I said?” Satouu tries to call for Yokoo to come back to planet earth, but he still seems totally out of it.
Satouu could practically see the comical stars, flowers and hearts surrounding Yokoo, who was looking up, not paying attention to him at all.
The boy snaps his fingers in front of his friend’s face to get him aware again, but it doesn’t work. All Yokoo could see was the glistening of stars of possibilities, the flowers of hope, and hearts brewing up all the romantical thoughts in his head.
Yokoo only thinks for another second more. It doesn’t take him long to make up his mind.
He looks down, and Satouu thinks he finally got his attention.
But he sees a big, radiating smile grow on the brown haired boy’s face, the lifting of his eyebrows, the sparkles glistening in his brown eyes, the speckles of coral pink on his cheeks.
Satouu deadpans, as Yokoo just rushes to put his shoes on and place his other shoes in his locker, closes it, picks up the present again, and skips off with delight emitting from his being.
‘He’s super happy about this, huh?’ Satouu thinks, gathering his stuff to follow a Yokoo who hasn’t looked back for him, too busy still daydreaming.
——
After school ends, club activities have been taken care of, and when most students have gotten home, Shun sits on his bed in his room.
He thinks about the school day that just passed. About how he and Satouu told Kou about the mysterious gifts they received, and only to find out that Kou himself and a bunch of other students got a lot of the same presents. All with the same colors ranging from red, purple and pink, with the same weird handwritten notes and cards, and even with the same weird looking plushies that were definitely not teddy bears.
Him and his little group of friends tried figuring out who gave the gifts, but it was hard to, because everyone else had the same anonymous gifts.
Most people had boxes of chocolates, just like Satouu, a girl only a year older from Kou and his friends said that she also received a black monster-looking plushie like himself. It was a small blob, only with two white eyes and nothing more. She said she was probably going to throw it away.
A boy in the same class as them said there was an eye on his purple chocolate box.
Another kid said the box he got wasn’t even heart shaped. It was round like an oval, rimmed with many small eyeballs of black and red, topped with a ribbon bow.
A lot of the kids claimed to have thrown the presents away immediately, not wanting the odd things, given to them by someone who wouldn’t reveal their identities within 12+ pink cards and white notes.
Only Shun, Yomogi and Kou kept their presents.
Though, Yomogi still thought it was suspicious.
And now, unable to do his homework due on Friday, Yokoo Shun sat in his bed. Staring at the gift he had received.
He was still so flattered. Despite the gift being odd, and creepy, totally abnormal like it was made for Halloween inside of Valentine’s Day. He was flattered that someone would give one to him.
He’d have probably thrown it away too, though. He was taught not to take things from strangers, no matter how nice and trusting they or himself was. The teacher being his trust issued father.
But, if it wasn’t for the gleefulness that resided within himself when even getting anything for Valentine’s Day from someone else but his two close friends, and the deep feeling that this gift was something he needed to keep that felt just as eccentric as the thing itself. He wouldn’t be taking the monster plushie out of the box, setting it on the right side of his pillow, and taking the chocolate tarts out of the box and putting them in the miniature refrigerator he had in his room.
He’d eat the tarts later, once he tries again to solve the mystery of the exclusive Valentine’s gifts.
For right now, Shun would think about how to go about it tomorrow, he would turn off his lights as it was time for him to rest until the next day, and turn his head to gaze at the small black monster plushie.
With a small wistful smile, as he closed his eyes and allowed dreamland to take him away for 8 peaceful hours.

“Ooh, I’m in love, it’s a mystery. When I see you out at night, I start to get dizzy.”
“Before I see you I pick out some thing to say. Don’t want to sound foolish and waste my chance away.”
“Oh, I’m not gonna make the same mistakes. I’m not gonna run.”
“Just pick the boy you like. I’ve got my hopes up.”
