This episode was truly the best way to end the show, maybe even the best episode of the series. (Neck in neck with episode 2 of course) The way they enjoyed it so much but were also so sad it was over. The hot tension all around, the soft boyfriends mood who can't stop flirting and name calling each other with the most low-key couple-like sweet names. They could not stop laughing, they could not stop touching and they couldn't stop being hilarious without even trying.

Do you think Callum will do dark magic again?

Oh yeah, not a doubt in my mind. This is for 3 main reasons:

1) You don't have a character say "But beware, if you ever do dark magic again, the darkness will overwhelm and corrupt you" and escalate the stakes of usage unless you're going to go there. It's kind of like how I know Callum is going to be possessed Again at one point (s7 dark my beloved) precisely because he's worried about it and more than that, that he's brought another character (Rayla) into the fold with a decision to make. No reason to have setup and then no payoff

2) Unless Callum does dark magic again, Aaravos can't possess him again. And as previously mentioned, Callum has to get possessed unless they want to throw away multiple episodes (4x04, 4x05, 4x07, 5x04, 5x08, all S6 + orb shots, 6x03) out the window. Ergo, he has to do dark magic again. Setup like this (i.e. Rayla as Callum's light being hinted at in framing in s2 and then much more overtly in s4 before being brought mostly home in s6) always comes back around in some manner, just gotta look for it

3) Viren parallels. Viren and Callum have always had oppositional (arc 1) and then mirrored (switching) foil arcs throughout the show (think Callum with wings vs Viren falling to his death in 3x09, or Viren swearing dark magic off in 5x09 and Callum having opened that door back up again an episode prior, etc). Viren, as stated, had sworn off dark magic saying he would never ever do it again, nor did he want to do it in 6x08 for a multitude of reasons.

However, someone he loved (Soren) as well as the extenuating circumstances caused him to use dark magic as a full on sacrifice that likewise only sacrificed himself. A couple episodes we had Callum 'fix' the hole dark magic had made inside him, but if he's following Viren's path, there's two likely angles: the first is that he, like Viren, will use dark magic even after trying so hard to rid himself of it (the mirrored arc). The second, overlapping angle is that Callum will refuse to sacrifice his heart (switching) because his heart is Rayla.

Kinda like how Aaravos demanded that Viren should make the sacrifice in 5x09, and Viren refused vs Rayla demanding that Callum should make the sacrifice in 6x03 (and Finnegrin a bit honestly) and Callum inevitably refusing cause Rayla can't permanently die lmao.

There's also the unsavoury implication that "restores bodies to spirits" spell Callum did in 5x09 has unique associations with the dark ritual spell Claudia did in killing Sir Sparklepuff that was undeniably dark magic usage.

The coin has been seemingly wiped clean now that Runaan is out (though maybe there's the symbol still on the other side?) but it does make me wonder of a potential plotline where Callum knew ahead of time, or belatedly, that this spell would require something adjacent to dark magic and he's done it, but the corruption Kosmo spoke of is gradual, making him more irritated, paranoid, etc. like the King of a 1000 Eyes that Amaya talked about. I think that'd be really interesting

The indirectness / the fact we'd only know it'd Happened retroactively makes me lean that we'll outright see another blatant usage in S7 since that's more Dramatic (which I've always been in favour of Callum viewing "I get possessed again bc I make a 'bad' choice and hand myself over to Aaravos" as a sacrifice of himself into "i'm already dead so kill me" territory). And if he breaks his promise to Rayla that he won't pick her over the greater good, then she can break her promise to him that she'll kill him (this is exactly beat for beat what I've wanted since s4 dropped and even before tbh)

TLDR; Absolutely Yes. S7 being Book Seven: Dark only adds to this and the stakes / set up are all there. I'm pumped

Turns out Naoya Inoue is actually just that damn good.

Inoue took apart Fulton over the course of 8 rounds. The generous read was the fight was 6-1 Inoue heading into the 8th. But it was all Inoue.The jab was accurate, damaging, and disruptive. It set the tone all night as he used an up-jab to break through the guard of Fulton. It was thudding. And it forced Fulton to either reset or back out of exchanges, giving Inoue a runway to follow up. When Fulton did try to jab with Inoue, Inoue did an amazing job of getting the inside angle and basically letting Fulton leap into a stiff short jab. It was great. But the thing that really stole this fight for Inoue was the body jab. From basically the 2nd round on, Inoue was landing that jab at will. Fulton didn’t offer much resistance. He attempted to counter the body jab once with a chopping right hand but Inoue immediately countered by hooking off the body jab. Extremely beautiful stuff. I think Inoue landed something like 20 body jabs over the course of the first 7 rounds. The killing blow was set up by a jab to the gut that forces Fulton to drop the lead hand. That provided the hole for the right hand to finally land flush on Fulton. It completely rocked him. He tried to stay up (both gloves seemed to have touched the ground) as he ran to the corner but Inoue followed it and landed a sweeping left hook that floored Fulton. He beat the count but was instantly stormed to the post where Inoue flurried and the ref called the fight as Fulton fell to his butt.

One of my worries for Fulton heading into this fight was Inoue’s speed and skill in open space. While his wins over Figueroa, Leo and Roman were impressive, none of them are Inoue stylistically. The idea was that Fulton was a fleet footed lateral movement based fighter that could theoretically keep Inoue at range with his size and lean on him when it came time to get on the inside, smothering the smaller fighter’s work. Neither of those things happened. Turns out, Roman is not analogous to Inoue. I’m actually curious if Fulton’s all terrain nature kind of bit him on the ass here. We’ve seen fighters who are willing to meet their opponents at the range/pace they want struggle when they have to be the setter. Cause Fulton was content sitting in a bladed stance at middle distance with Inoue, probably a terrible idea for basically anyone. The lateral movement we had seen basically didn’t exist as Inoue didn’t really pressure and Fulton didn’t try to make him chase. When Fulton did move, it was purely defensive. There were a couple times between rounds 5 and 7 where Fulton would land something meaningful, usually off of subtle half steps disguised by his own jab. But he could not build off it. And while Fulton is the bigger fighter, he’s not more aggressive. He’s not a pressure fighter himself who was going to use his size to bully around Inoue. And that definitely wasn’t going to happen after the first couple of clinch exchanges. Inoue did a great job of punching in the tie ups. One time an illegal uppercut after pushing Fulton’s head from the front headlock position (dope af tbh). Another a series of right hands after Fulton lept in behind the jab and got his arm trapped on the shoulder of Inoue. Inoue was just the better inside fighter.

I feel bad because Fulton is a great fighter. Like legitimately great. He’s beaten most of the top of the 122lb division. He’s tough as hell. Been in wars with some tough fighters. He takes the tough fights fans say they want to see. He earned those two world titles. He went over to Tokyo in an attempt to do something legitimately amazing, challenging, and career-defining. He does all the things you want high level prizefighters to do but he just came up against a once in a generation type fighter in his prime. And it’s a shame that I don’t have more positive things to say about him in this fight, but that is just a testament to how great Inoue is and how much he dominated this fight. I definitely underestimated Inoue in a few respects. The power more than carried. He didn’t look that much smaller than Fulton either. His fighting in the tie ups was way better than I thought it was.

It looks like we’ll be getting Inoue vs Marlon Tapales in November/December in a unification bout for all 4 major titles at jr featherweight. If that’s the case, there’s a good chance Inoue will be a 2 division undisputed champion. Absolutely amazing.

Seeing Jaehaerys little casket and his face being the only thing showed is so saddening. I feel like Otto purposely left his face out in the open cause normally they cover the face. I was kinda surprised that Helaena was in there at the funeral(I know it’s her son so it’s expected she’d show up ), but if I remember she became extremely depressed to the point she didn’t leave her room. So I wonder if after the funeral thats when she’ll retreat t her room and hardly leave.

Is this a thing? Origin stories? So I was pretty ill last summer, and for some reason Harry kept popping up everywhere, especially on my instagram explore page that I was browsing bedridden and out of boredom. In hindsight it was probably because of hslot. So I started to view clips of him every now and then, and suddenly my explore page was full of him and funny one direction videos, that let me to louis who was just starting to promote the fitf singles (and I loved his new sound!). Anyway, soon I couldn’t escape the funny 1D compilations and they really cheered me up so much when I was unwell, but I’m sure we all know they are a short, steep and slippery slide down the larry-rabbit hole. Cue youtube videos and master posts and just the whole mayhem and at some point I ended back up at tumblr, found a bunch of blogs and kept following the people those people would repost from and now my feed is full of Louis and Harry and the rest of the boys.

Never have I ever been a part of a fandom that causes me this level of unease tho, and I think it comes from ppl shipping two real people in a very intrusive way. I’m not talking about you lot I follow here of course, but some people can’t seem to behave and understand that there’s sort of a fourth wall that you’re not supposed to break? Like keep the fandom within the fandom bubble, it doesn’t belong out there in the real world.

That being said, you lot here bring me so much joy at a time when life’s been a bit heavy sometimes! And this fandom has so so much talent it’s crazy!! The writers and artists and gif makers and just everyone here is so crazy talented and fun! So kudos to y’all!!

Ah, yes... Harry's tour and his new album, everything exploded last year. I'm so glad you found them then and they provided you with some distraction. They can be... very distracting. I still don't know how to get less distracted, tbh.

Your second paragraph... *sigh* Yes, I hear you. That was something I had to wrap my head around the first few months. The intrusiveness of it all? I felt guilty, too, just by looking at videos being slowed down frame by frame of their reactions, or moments, or whatever. It still feels a bit weird, ngl, but it's so... "normalized" here, in this bubble, that I feel "okay" with it. I do agree with you though, that fandom belongs in the fandom. I still remember that "Sing Walls if Larry is real" sign in Washington last year. We saw it before the show, and we rolled our eyes, and I was like "why would people bring this stuff to their shows", but then Louis did what he did (and trust me, I looked at every angle possible, I am very skeptical about these things, but I was stunned). Why? Why did he do that in the way he did it? Hahajha. Listen- who knows? Maybe they were in a very good place relationship-wise and he was feeling frisky about it. Or... he was just being a little shit and knew the chaos it would cause. Or... yeah, idk. It's hard, and I think it all stems from the 1D days, especially the last year, when the Bears were the stars of the show and how they "communicated" with us through them. And it fucks you up a bit... but people forget circumstances, as well. Things change... they're not in the same band anymore, being worked to death, asked to behave in certain ways and whatnot, or asked to do things they don't want. They're on their own now, and I do believe they appreciate the privacy they have after not being seen together all the time and people thinking they haven't seen each other since... 2016? It's genius, if you ask me. Like, hey, we can be ourselves, in our own little world and nobody's gonna dissect how we move, or if we can even look at each other. And I think things shifted for them in regards of "communicating", it feels like they don't have to, and sometimes some of the things we see, might just be because they're so in tune with each other that these things happen on their own. Not everything, but just some things some people love hammering on about. Okay, I'm rambling here and going on a tangent, and not properly curating my thoughts, sorry...

Tbh, I’ve found myself wondering if it is worth me coming back after summer break.

Firstly, the vibes are just rancid and I am continually seeing my favourite driver constantly receive hate from some elements of his team mates fans. Secondly - what on earth is going on with Mercedes themselves because the performance is dwindling and the are getting overtaken by customer teams and they have no idea what is going on, and finally, the racing is just not close at all.

I much prefer Formula E: at least it’s somewhat unexpected. I’ve rapidly fallen out of love of F1 tbh.

I do definitely understand that feeling, and it doesn’t help that this has just been a spectacularly bad season from a fan perspective. Even McLaren regaining pace doesn’t add anything because they’re still not fast enough to compete with Red bull. Even an inter team fight would bring some interest but it’s not going to happen. It’s just a stagnant dull season.

I think people are putting too much thought into the customer team angle. McLaren picking up pace and Williams not being too bad and Aston too shows the engine is not the problem, it’s working fine, it’s purely aero based that’s causing Merc’s woes, which means it’s not a terminal problem. Look at FE, you’ve just had a WDC in a customer team and no one thinks twice about it.

I have enjoyed FE more this season, and I’m definitely sad the season is ending already. The fan discourse has just blown all out of proportion and I think people are channelling their frustrations into the wrong things, and it doesn’t help that Twitter has kind of died off mid season, I think a lot of the negative energy is people migrating from there and not really getting the difference in vibes. It feels to be one specific fan group right now and it’s incredibly overwhelming if that sort of stuff gets to you or you get swept up and targeted by it.

I think everyone needs to take a step back and breathe. I don’t think one single driver is as pressed about any of the things that fans are currently getting themselves worked up about. I think it’s boredom breeding toxicity and it’s definitely not fun

whats crazy to me is the sheanu drama was about phil being upset at the baby not being his than the affair itself really. a wrong dna test caused all of this drama and we are here 4years later doing this again. im here for a phil and sharon baby but i would have preferred it from the start rather than now but better than never really.

I think Eastenders just wanted to have their cake and eat it. Keanu has never been an important character, so the Phil/Sharon angle was the only thing they could mine from this situation. They wanted all of the fall out and drama it caused, as well as whats happening right now. Albie could have just been Phil's from the start, but they wouldn't have gotten the 3/4 storylines out of it that they have.

Keanu was absent for years and literally no one missed him, so it was obvious that his return would be limited and directly related to what went before.

Sharon and Phil are one of those 'inevitable' couples, whether you like them or not. And I quite like Kat and Phil but it feels like a placeholder for both of them - they both have their great loves waiting in the wings.

As isolated as Ben and Callum feel from their wider family (mainly Phil and Kathy), I don't really see a scenario of them moving in together again. It would be a bit strange at this point given they have their own place.

With Lexi, I would like to see her change her name to Pearce Mitchell or just Mitchell - and Callum to change his name too. It's weird that they haven't addressed the difficulties of having a family unit in which the child and two parents all have different last names. It would cause a lot of issues in real life.

Ben was always going to get the Arches back but I am interested to see how it comes about - there isn't really a straight line between 'Sharon and Keanu break up' to 'Ben gets the Arches back' - Sharon is obviously going to find out about the kidnapping at some point and the paternity thing will come out as a result of her anger around that. There needs to be a lot of bridge building between Ben and Sharon too. I do wonder if Ben's assault will become Square public knowledge at some point , with all the stuff with Dean. It would be interesting to see Ben's reaction to his presence too, given everything.

Hi there! i wanted to hear your thoughts about somthing .during mokingjay, a quations that returns all the time is would you kill your loved ones in situations where living is worst then death. and we hear the hanging tree again and agin, and like it's somthing that i remeber i didnt quite get when i was younger but tbh even now i dont fully get it. On one hand the song is somthing that katniss allignes with her fathre. But also by the end of book, with how much katniss discuss this, she dosent shoot gale. Which yeah she didnt hear him.but i think it's very singnificnet that even so katniss contmplints this subject at the end she dosent do it, even if it's no eintirlly her choice. Also it's kinda wierd she didnt understand what he wanted. They agreed it's her job to do it and peacekeeprs are taking him. It's very bizzare that when it comes to it she's lost at what to do. it's somthing im entierlly sure how to read ( if you answer to this please dont mention bosas cause i havent read it yet)

i honestly don’t have a great answer here… i think it’s in part a conflict of your ideological goals and your actual feelings. like sure she says she’d kill gale but when it comes down to it, can she really do it? it’s a harder choice than she wants it to be.

there’s also the fact that she doesn’t hear him, like you said. my thought there is that despite everything, it’s still not her first instinct to kill her friend, and the hesitation is crucial to katniss’ character. in all the books, she only shoots two people point blank (to my memory) — marvel and the woman in the capitol. and both those situations leave her wracked with guilt. (also this is another parallel in thg and mockingjay — i bet if you checked the chapters those two moments happen as mirrors of each other, honestly.) katniss doesn’t want to be someone where killing is her first instinct — so when she can’t hear gale, it doesn’t even occur to her that he might be asking her to do that until afterwards. that’s one angle, i suppose.

but let’s look at the passage in question:

Gale meets my eyes, mouths something at me I can't make out. I don't know what to do. I can't leave him, but I can't reach him either. His lips move again. I shake my head to indicate my confusion. At any minute, they'll realize who they've captured. The Peacekeepers are hauling him inside now. "Go!" I hear him yell.

I hold on to the idea that he may have gone back. Felt an attack coming and retreated to the cellar while he still had control. Realized there was no need for a diversion when the Capitol has provided so many. No need to be bait and have to take the nightlock - the nightlock! Gale doesn't have any. And as for all that talk of detonating his arrows by hand, he'll never get the chance. The first thing the Peacekeepers will do is to strip him of his weapons.

I fall into a doorway, tears stinging my eyes. Shoot me. That's what he was mouthing. I was supposed to shoot him! That was my job. That was our unspoken promise, all of us, to one another. And I didn't do it and now the Capitol will kill him or torture him or hijack him or - the cracks begin opening inside me, threatening to break me into pieces. I have only one hope. to me, “i can’t reach him, but i can’t leave him either” is a really interesting line here. because again, she doesn’t even consider killing him as a possibility until she realizes that’s what he had asked. the only two things she considers as potential outcomes to this situation are helping him or leaving him, and she refuses to do the latter. even though she’s been in two different hunger games, her first instinct isn’t to leave and save herself, it’s to stay with him. people like to say that katniss’ instinct is survival — but here we can see that often, her first instinct is actually to help other people. which is a powerful character beat.

i also think the passage is interesting in that it ends with that line “i have only one hope” — to my point from earlier about katniss still managing to hold onto a lot of hope despite everything, i think it’s an interesting line in context that despite everything crumbling around her she still identifies something to hope for. in that moment, you could say she’s learned a lot more from peeta than she might even know herself; that in the hardest moments, sometimes hope is the only thing left to hold onto. or, interestingly, in the words of snow… that hope is the only thing stronger than fear ;)

but honestly i don’t really know. curious to hear anyone else’s thoughts.

→ MARK honestly i think mark would just giggle. definitely. that man’s giggle machine never runs out wtf. anyway, without fail he usually breaks into giggles at the sounds that you make. when he becomes used to it, he’ll just smile to himself and continues to do what he’s doing, knowing that you heard his noise of mild amusement. mark’s made it clear that he loves it, but sometimes he laughs a lot that you’re conscious of it. when you do get insecure about it he doesn’t hesitate to let you know that it’s one of his favourite quirks of you!!! i also can honestly see him taking inspiration from ur sounds to include as adlibs to his songs ngl LMAO. 

“yo… can you say that again?” mark says enthusiastically, bringing in his portable recording mic so he could take down your unique sound. you roll your eyes with a smile, pushing out a few more sounds that mimicked the one before the click on mic goes off. your jaw drops, “you didn’t tell me you were already recording!” that prompted you to smack him, causing the endless fit of a laugh-fest you always caught yourself in when you’re with mark.

→ RENJUN fond smile fond smile fond smile!!! renjun loves it when you exclaim out when you leave the couch or have to manoeuvre around something to get somewhere. he likes showing affection to you no matter where you phrase you exclaim, although it’s not that showy. if you happen to do your sound at the dining table some of the members will know for sure that renjun will take your hand under the table or wear a lovesick smile that all of them know too well. renjun has the sweetest words for days too looooord, only if you’re alone tho and wants to know more about your habit and how it came to be??? if that make sense!

the familiar grasp of his hand doesn’t faze you, shooting the man a sheepish smile over the table as you feel his thumb graze over your skin. “renjun, bro, i’m happy for you and all, but i think they can’t eat if their dominant hand is being held,” you hear haechan call out, making the table erupt into light laughter. renjun ignores him but fails to ignore the blush on his cheeks, threatening hyuck with a raised hand as a joke. he doesn’t care about the others, though, when he sees the wide smile on your face and feels the squeeze of his hand in yours.

→ JENO you know how he like has that “hhmnnnmh?” sound. idk how to explain it but the thing that he always does whenever one of the dream members do or say some weird shit. yea he’d do that. the first few times were out of genuine confusion, but as jeno became more used to your sounds and exclamations, he hummed out mostly as a reply to it. the atmosphere would go silent a little as he stares at you with his big, deer-caught-in-the-headlight eyes, and he holds that stare with you for a good 15 seconds LOL. def challenges you by wiggling his head around and then ending up tackling you to the couch or bed. if you’re sitting at a table the most he’d do is to probably land a kiss on your face after teasing you. mans just looking for an excuse to kiss you tbh.

“hhm?” jeno perks up to look to you, head tilted at an angle as you move closer to him at the dining table. his feigned surprise expression switches into a smile as he inches closer to you, ignoring your protests until there’s no more space left. jeno lets out a raspy laugh, lips coming into contact with your temple as the playful nature subsides.

→ HAECHAN the first time you do it, he lets out a dramatic gasp: hand to his mouth, jaw dropped etc. he’s a drama mama but you brush it off with a shove to his shoulder. hyuck def matches your energy like jaemin does but it’s mostly at the expense of his usual whines and pouts. you do it one time and the man does it ten times over. in no time he’s already cuddled up way too close to you with an arm around your waist and his head snuggled into your neck. he loves it when you say your phrases bc then he can exclaim something on his part like “very cute! but i’m cuter!” and you’d have to smack him or something. he dissolves into a fit of giggles along with the usual teasing, but other than that he likes communicate his fondness of your habit through physical touch.

moving around the project you had just bought wasn’t difficult but you couldn’t help the phrase that came naturally each time. “can you make that sound too when you’re riding-“ you don’t waste any time to land a mild slap on his forearm, gaining a laugh from your boyfriend who casually stated it during your movie night. your glare speaks tons, but haechan doesn’t care as he’s all smiles into your hair before continuing the movie. you, too, relax, knowing it was all fun banter that made your time with him all the more enjoyable.

→ JAEMIN oh my god jaem would match your energy 100%, even if the energy isn’t that high as he usually portrays himself in nct videos. with you, he’s a bit more reserved and kept to himself, but he likes it and you like it, too. when you’re moving past someone and make a noise he echoes you in the same manner you said it. and then the smile that comes after? omg 10/10!! beautiful smile!! jaemin just melts at your silly habit and the widest smile spreads across his face tbh. if you’re saying it while you’re alone with him i can see him just laughing and giggling at the words you manage to exclaim, cooing over how cute you are in his arms. jaem best boy

the ring of jaemin’s laughter fills your ears as your butt scoots closer to him, engaging him in the same fun sounds that you frequently make. jaemin repeats it in an exaggerated way, shooting you the biggest grin before pecking your forehead, “ah… why are you so cute (y/n)…” you easily nuzzle into his embrace, relishing in the warmth of his natural body heat and the arm around your waist.

→ CHENLE would counter your sound with a weird sound of his own. i know jaemin makes weird sounds but this man is on a whole other level PLSS. if you’re feeling playful you would reply and this feud of some sort would just continue until one of the other members ask you two to shut up, which would of course result in chenle’s recognisable dolphin laugh. even if you’re a little tired, i feel like the energy would still be up a little, so expect some prodding at your cheek or sides and kiss attacks from the mans. he would definitely coo, but not in the cheesy, cutesy way jaemin would. chenle has a more teasing and outgoing nature to him. it’s relentless and you’d have to stop him at some point but he’s making you laugh and having such a good time so you admire him instead.

the shrill sound fills your ears, responding to your phrase with one of his own. when you reply, he does it too, which prompts you to sigh in resignation at his endless energy. chenle catches on, but doesn’t press on further, instead entertaining you by giving you endless pecks on your forehead, your nose, your cheeks, your lips. you name it. the laugh he had, now, was more muted, liking the way your sounds of mixed protest and joy meant the opposite, “hey stop! baobei, you’re messing up my hair!”

→ JISUNG the poor boy would jump a little, but he finds himself being able to connect your actions to the sound you would make. i think the only time he would be really started was if you exclaimed a new phrase or if the action itself takes him off guard. like almost colliding with him in a hallway or popping up behind the fridge. jisung would have the littlest hint of a smile on his face, although he tries not to show it that much. i feel like he also would chuckle to himself quietly. he likes the quirk a lot that he finds himself thinking about it from time to time and even picking it up for fun one day. it felt so natural to do it that he just started to do it, too. maybe not as often as you do though! he usually cringes at it tho LMAO he doesn’t know how you make it sound so endearing. his reaction would be also just be a moment of “omg that was so cute, i love them so much”

as you land on the sofa with a sound spilling from your lips, you don’t miss jisung’s flinch at your appearance. “that one’s new,” his eyes are wide, but it eventually melts into a smile. he naturally leans back as he accepts the defeat shown on the television screen, but you don’t miss a beat to snatch the controller from him, going ahead to play the game in his stead. as you curl up by his side, you quickly beat your boyfriend at the level as his arm curls around your torso cautiously. jisung can only smile in the moment, finding that it was reaching his ears when you tease him again about the easy level.

Screaming is the only answer, so smiling, you nod to Delilah who grabs a confused, yet happy, looking Simu onto the stage with her. You hug him tightly, careful not to mess up your outfit as the entire costume department would kill you. You lead him to a stool that Mira had set out a second earlier, and hand him a small basket for him to hold.

While this exchange was happening, you could hear Mira tell the audience that you’re doing a cover of a song from one of your good friends John K.

The crowd nearly drowns out the start of the song, but you’d been planning this for far too long to let that mess you up. After all, Simu was on stage with you and your girls and you knew he’d get a kick out of this.

so on this page and tbh in a lot of the fandom we like to equate taylor swift songs, specifically from like folklore and evermore, to ATYD and i’m not even gonna lie this has become a legitimate hobby of mine - trying to see it from different angles and perspectives. but can we take a moment to talk about “exile” with bon iver?

i’m going to kind of break it down and analyze how it relates to ATYD below the cut :) ATYD SPOILERS I REPEAT ATYD SPOILERS: it’s about the very very end, like last three or four chapters.

ANALYSIS BELOW:

the first verse, i believe is from grant’s pov.

in my brain this whole interaction happens in those last few chapters of the book, in 1994, when sirius goes back to the apartment and grant leaves. he’s talking to remus here, seeing him and sirius interact and knowing it’s over. it would take him

five whole minutes to pack me up and leave me with it

is an allusion to grant leaving that day to go to his job in brighton, and knowing remus is going to move on and spend that night with sirius.

the whole part,

i think i’ve seen this film before, and i didn’t like the ending

is about how he found remus, the state he was in, when sirius left the first time in 1981. he knows what happened, he knows how messed up remus can get. he knows that if anything happens, he’d be broken to see remus again, like, he can’t do it.

you’re not my homeland anymore, so what am i defending now? you were my town, now i’m in exile seeing you out.

this part’s about grant’s jealousy. you were my town, you were mine, and knowing that he can’t have that now, or that he never really did.

the next verse changes from justin to taylor singing, and it also changes from grant to remus’s pov.

this verse? BRILLIANT. we need to take a moment to acknowledge that these guys are poets - this stuff is so, like, profound? ughhhh

so anyway though, remus is talking to grant here. he knows that grant knows he is the second choice - sirius’s understudy, if you will. and he knows grant would totally “get his knuckles bloody” for him.

second third and hundredth chances

this part is the chances that grant gave remus, and not the other way around. despite remus’s misery and addiction and mental illness, and despite his lycanthropy, and the magic, and the sleeping with castor issue, grant was always loyal. always. even when most people wouldn’t be.

the final part of that verse is about how even though he knew what he really wanted sirius and that he was making the right choice, oh, he would still miss grant.

i think i’ve seen this film before, and i didn’t like the ending

remus knows what he’s doing. he knows he’s stepping back onto the tightrope and that he might get hurt again, but that’s not now. he knows he’s going to miss grant and that he’s causing him pain.

i’m not your problem anymore

this is one of my favorite lines in the whole song, because of how much it encapsulates remus’s self worth issues - it’s about when he tells grant, “i haven’t always been fair to you”. it’s about how he thinks all he is is a burden.

NOT GRANT SLANDER, but to be fair, there was like NO discussion of grant leaving. he just packed, said he had a new job, and left - and while remus was happy to have sirius back OUCH that must have hurt. BUT ALSO, this part is sung by both justin and taylor, or, grant and remus, so it’s also grant kinda silently echoing his little bit of remorse for remus always wanting sirius.

you never gave a warning sign (i gave so many signs)

okay, so there are basically two ways to interpret this. the first is to stick with the script: grant = justin and remus = taylor. and in that case, i would say that grant could be, like, angry here? maybe at sirius; but also maybe at remus. what happened between grant and remus during the school year he was away is up for interpretation, but i think this could be grant mad at remus that sirius was kind of back in the world and not even telling him. and the remus echoing is like him admitting that he has always loved sirius a little more.

BUT the way that this makes more sense to me is to flip the parts, and remus telling grant that he never gave a warning sign in terms of picking up and leaving, and taking the new job. and grant’s “i gave so many signs” is calling remus to realize he wasn’t in love with him.

UGH THIS BRIDGE. ok, so the whole

is just another whole thing about them never really being on the same page, and how grant would never understand remus as much as sirius did.

BUT

i couldn’t turn things around (you never turned things around)

is flipping parts again, and it’s remus half assed apology about not ever really getting over sirius, and grant agreeing that he couldn’t.

the rest is flipped though, and it’s each of them trying to see each others’ perspectives.

Sam:

Sam clearly thinks he’s in the right. 

- Building the prison. Dream asked it of him, and it’d be a great project. (true neutral)

- Letting Dream have visitors. Maybe both in an effort to give people closure, and also to maybe have Dream reflect on his actions and how he hurt people. {lawful good - he wants to help people}

- Keeping Tommy in the prison? As far as he knew, Dream actively wanted to keep Tommy alive - it would make no sense for Dream to kill him. And Tommy has gotten out of Dream’s manipulation, he won’t let it happen again - right? (Lawful neutral - he’s following the rules of the prison)

- Letting Quackity torture Dream? They can get the revival book, and then either kill the dude (and he can finally be free from the prison) or just leave him in there to rot, no more visitors. Also retribution for Tommy’s death, and all the trauma he put the kid through. (Lawful evil - playing by the rules but without mercy or compassion)

- Disarming (ha) and killing Ponk? The dude stole keycards. Defunct or not, this is a clear sign of disrespect towards him and the prison. He can’t let anyone see him show even a centimeter of wiggle room, especially not after Tommy died. (Lawful/neutral evil - the death was fair by lawful standards, he gave Ponk several chances, and death was part of the agreement that Ponk signed, but the arm and torture was more of a psychological move to break Ponk - philosophy of egoistic consequentialism - it was a show and abuse of power, it was not lawful)

- Leaving Ghostbur with Dream? .... i got nothing for this one tbh. The barrier was still up, he could’ve gotten Ghostbur out via the bridge. Maybe Dream was technically canonically holding Ghostbur hostage physically, but ahhh, yeah no. Not letting Dream out ig, the entire point of the prison. (lawful,,, neutral,,,, ig?)

- Kicking Tommy out? The dude was trying to break Dream out, as far as Sam knew. Tommy might’ve been lying when he said that he was trying to kill Dream - maybe death did something to him, or Dream managed to manipulate him again somehow? Either way, Tommy should be dead, but he can’t bring himself to kill the kid. (lawful good.... neutral.... in the middle of the two - he follows the rules, but is also moral about it)

- Trapping Techno in the prison? Makes sense. Techno was the biggest threat in terms of Dream getting out of prison. Techno has a deal owed to Dream, and with Techno in the prison, under his guard, there’s no way for him to get Dream out. The man is an anarchist, and the prison is a symbol of the system, an authority. He isn’t aware that Techno has the support of several pretty powerful people, he doesn’t consider the other people he’s hurt and pissed off that may want to get back at him. Still, Techno hadn’t technically broken any rules, he hadn’t been a threat to the server as a whole for ages now, or actively hurt people in an effort to control the server. His entire thing is freedom really. Techno hadn’t attacked the prison - which makes this imprisonment amoral (lawful stupid evil, almost chaotic in a way, once again - Techno hadn’t done anything to warrant being imprisoned in the Vault. I say stupid cause on twitter he was all like “haha brains over strength”... my dude u didn’t consider the consequences of putting the TWO MOST POWERFUL PEOPLE IN A ROOM TOGETHER)

and now, in relation to that - let’s see who he hurt~

Ponk: 

- Ye boi trusted Sam, possibly with his life. They were good friends (valentines too if u wanna play that angle, and oml im pretty sure that the canonical way Ponk got the keycards was when he and Sam were,,, cuddling,,, and that is hilarious) I think he forgave Sam for the death - it was like, ‘meh - fair, I did steal the keycards under the assumption that they worked’ but the torture was a step too far

- Ponk was trying to make a point - Sam had sunken in way too deep into the role of the Warden (*insert talk about the the stanford prison experiment, which is an interesting read about power dynamics between prisoners and prison guards, i’ll put the link below*), and Sam kinda validated that point. The keycards were defunct, Ponk and Sam knew that by the time that he spawn-trapped him, and still Sam tortured him. Death would have been preferable to what Sam did - considering that Ponk had already canonically lost both his legs - taking his arm was a direct psychological attack. It was an abuse of power, trust (c!Sam likely knew about the legs), and just,,, completely relationship shattering. 

- It does not help that Sam seems to completely ignore what he did to Ponk, and takes no responsibility for it. I forgot the direct quote, and I’m too lazy to find it, but Sam claimed that it was Ponk’s fault that he lost an arm, and that he deserved it (and that he’d do it again). Victim blaming, way to go Sam. Yeah, Ponk’s def not gonna be on Sam’s side.

Tommy

- Oh boi Tommy. The kid trusted Sam, and - despite just following protocol - Sam betrayed that trust. He let him die - despite the 7 day lockdown that the deal promised (Sam changed it afterwards, but that wasn’t what Sam made Tommy sign), and that was a betrayal. Tommy had begged, he had been left in a box with his abuser for MORE THAN A WEEK. That trauma was inexcusable.

- Then, the whole Ghostbur debacle. Sam not only stopped Tommy from killing Dream, but he also didn’t bring Ghostbur back, didn’t send the bridge over, despite the barrier remaining up. He tried to stop Tommy from calming Ghostbur down, and actively held him back. He then kept on saying that he should be killing Tommy, which - mind you - Tommy is now terrified of dying and ending back up in limbo,,, so yeah.

- Bonus points for letting Dream bring Wilbur back - and Wilbur is going straight back to his tried and true method of manipulating Tommy (extra bonus points for Quackity also manipulating him - damn the kid can’t catch a break)

- Tommy will definitely not be on Sam’s side

Ranboo

- Wouldn’t put him in the prison, refused to listen to him

- Let Tommy die

- Let Ghostbur die

Ranboo may dislike Sam less than than the two above, but he’s still got his qualms... oh and - 

- Now has imprisoned Techno, his friend, landlord, and fellow syndicate member

Techno 

- Locked him up, with no fair trial, or doing anything really, all on the basis of a hypothesis with backing only given to Sam by second parties.

Dream

- Locked him up for one (justified, but that still makes him an enemy)

- Let Quackity torture him (no matter what anyone says, is not justified. I don’t think anything justifies torture)

- Used him to trick and lock up Techno 

Via Ponk, Tommy, Ranboo, and Techno, Sam also inadvertently made Tubbo, Niki, Philza, Wilbur, (possibly Puffy if she’s the extra syndicate member, possibly Sapnap if he finds out what Sam has been allowing Quackity to do to Dream, possibly Eret - his positive relationship with Tommy and the other kids, and possibly Foolish for his positive relationship with Ponk) his enemies as well. Not to mention the Eggpire may also want revenge, and/or to get the Egg out of Sam’s “egg prison”, and that Sam had threatened Michaelmcchill, which may have made him another enemy.

In the end, Sam started out as a Lawful Good character, leaning occasionally towards neutral, character. However, with the power that his position held, and with the helpful manipulation of Quackity, he started down the path of Lawful Evil. I don’t believe that he himself thinks that he’s a bad person, in his mind, he’s doing what is best for the server. But his actions have led him to make a lot of rather influential enemies. He’s going to lose at least one life over this, and I wonder if this will change his alignment again.

I absolutely do take asks like this! I'm flattered you sent this, actually. I didn't realize I'm big in scifi prompts though. I don't really think about that stuff, I just kinda write what comes to mind and let it free for others to have fun with...

Anyway! Sympathetic crimes in a sci-fi setting

Generally speaking, if the hero kills a bad guy, the audience will understand. For example, an abusive person - a selfish scam artist preying on the weak for their own gain and going very far with it - anyone who's hurt a child in any way on purpose - that kind of thing.

Robin Hood style crimes - robbing the rich via hacking, for example, or stealing from banks, to help others. Crimes done for a good reason towards villainous targets are always appreciated and people can get a feeling that justice will be done in life, one way or another, which is very nice

Protecting children: kidnapping a child from an abusive home and taking them somewhere safe, for example. Though you have to make sure you really make it clear that there's no other way to help the kid either at all or in the moment

Leaking hidden information about or being a whistleblower exposing corruption, illegal activities, crimes, etc. Depending on your setting, it may be illegal or at least extremely dangerous to your career to call out corruption in governments or big businesses. By doing it anyway, you show heroism and a solid moral compass in contrast to whatever you're exposing to the public

Tbh any crime can be seen as heroic so long as it's being aimed at an appropriate target. This can be used for good or evil - once upon a time, people would applaud hate crimes happening to various minorities. But in this case, if your main character is going after banks (most people in the present, at least in America, don't like banks), massive corporations, corrupt governments, and worse criminals than them, people will think their hearts are in the right place. But you gotta make sure the punishment fits the crime, or your hero is now gonna be the villain. A random scam artist on the street, or a pickpocket, maybe deserves a black eye. They may even need help themselves. But the wealthy politician who stole money that should've gone to helping people, and does bad things to women on the side? Write that bastard right and people will cheer if the hero kills him.

Also? Crimes to try and stay alive are sympathetic. Have to steal food from a grocery store because you're too young to get a job, or you've got a family to feed? The audience sympathizes. Break into an abandoned building because it's raining and you're homeless and can't get to a shelter if they're even safe? The audience understands. Accidentally kill a guy while trying to escape mortal danger you didn't cause? The audience might've done the same thing.
