I just came across your analyses of all the 5sos albums and can I just say: chefs kiss. amazing. from the way you approach them both musically and lyrically (are you a musician? you have a very good ear) to being able to tell who is singing which part of the harmony (when there’s more than 2 singing at once I have No Idea, and even when there’s just 2 I’m still a little hit and miss). so grateful you exist and did them!!! not only for my enjoyment purposes but also because of my crazy projects I’m about to tell you about just in case you’re interested

anyway, it started with the RAH version of teeth. I’m a classically trained violist, I’ve played in many orchestras, I looked and asked everywhere I could think of just to lay my hands on something like the score so I could maybe pull some musician friends together and play it. No avail. Then, sleep deprived and slightly manic and very unmotivated in the middle of writing my honours thesis I must’ve played that bass riff when messing around on my viola and was like ‘this isn’t even hard let me just open musescore’ and decided Luke’s voice best fit the cello and calum the viola and six hours later it was a whole orchestral piece with the riffs passing around the upper strings like the RAH version and also woodwind and brass instruments somehow and then the bass riff led me straight into thin white lies which quickly morphed into NITSW (and can I just say that bridge is the best thing ever when played by strings) and I was like, this is telling a story. That became the first movement of the concerto.

second movement had to start with the flutes playing the piano intro of lover of mine, then I borrowed ghost of you from youngblood and threw in lonely heart, all the ones in vaguely 3’s as far as timing goes went in, all satisfactorily longing (if mvmt 1 is Relationship Angst) ending on a reprise of ghost of you chorus a semitone up (I’m not even sure anymore tbh, it’s def less cohesive but pretty I think) and I tried to copy its RAH intro as an outro. By then I realised I wanted to make the third movement about self discovery that ended on red desert because the album is just SO SAD and it deserved a happy ending and I wanted to try fit as many songs from the album in as I could (no shame and kill my time didn’t fit thematically unfortunately and easier should’ve been in movement 1 but sonically it just didn’t go, at least not yet I’m open to attempting to incorporate any of those songs) so started with old me. I realised I could overlay it with best years. Weird choice I know but the chords and melody worked well enough (and I still don’t think best years has been brought to justice ngl). Then I overlaid wildflower with high which is surprisingly a combination that I love, and it worked music wise and I thought they offset each other alright?? I’m still not quite sure where I’m going with it yet. but then comes red desert and I did the RAH intro and the whole song with harmonies (does get repetitive and idk what to do with that yet) and it’s like. yay, I gave CALM a happy ending.

I guess what I’m asking is I want to do more of these for more of their albums or combination of them (like they’re genuinely so fascinating from a musical and storytelling lens I can’t get enough) and I’ve got some ideas but I want to hear if you have anything you can just hear coming after each other. like complete mess and red line or smth?? even moodswings and space between a rock and a hard place?? idk. just ideas. throw them all at me. I’ll do it and dedicate it to you

Okay, first, no, not a musician, it's just that my dad was a dj, so i grew up around a lot of sound equipment because he's very particular about sound quality and that totally developed my ear for that type of stuff and my interest for music is that much more intense because of it (i did teach myself how to play the guitar and i do sing, but, like, i don't have any real training) and I really appreciate you coming here to say these, because i have a lot of fun writing those. Also I saw your tags, don't know if you ever figured it out but the milf anthem is mrs all american lol

Second, I'm desperate to hear what you did with calm, from the description alone it feels like something impressive, I'm very interested to see how you overlayed high and wildflower because i can see it, but i can't really imagine how that would actually work sokaosksokas

And third, I actually have quite a few smaller combos i like to push together (i went through a mashup phase when i was learning how to play 5sos songs lol) but i usually go from lyrics and adjust the guitar to fit my voice, i have no idea how that could work for you, but one i always do is vapor -> lie to me -> why wont you love me -> bad omens (it used to be high at the end, but then they dropped bad omens and i liked the way that narratively bad omens closed the loop, you end up trapped in the relationship you know it's not working I like that a lot for this combo), i have a few weirder ones, that are mostly the ones that i never fully managed to make it work but i think they could, like moodswings into bleach, story of another us into close as strangers, i know you saw my post about rearranging 5sos5 to tell a story and for some reason i think you can overlay caramel and bad omens, and red line and you don't go to parties (this one i admitedlly don't really know, but i think the red line riff with the ydgtp riff could be something, just a feeling lol), there's the rhythm section mashup, tomorrow never dies -> babylon -> tears, that I think you can make something with the bass in all of them, for some reason vapor and me myself and i, talk fast -> not in the same way -> blender -> kill my time, this one i think its cool because of the 80s pop of the melodies and the progression of the story with the lyrics, lover of mine -> best years -> older -> ghost of you, again you have the narrative and i think the piano can work all of there to make this tragic love song. And this is everything i can think of right now, but i will probably think of more as soon as i hit post tho soaskookasas

I just came home from the Eras tour movie and here are some thoughts:

First each era:

Lover: definitely a good place to start! Who doesn't love screaming the Cruel Summer bridge? But whyy did they have to cut the ultimate Katniss Everdeen song? (Aka The Archer)

Fearless: Fun and nostalgia! I don't really have much else to add about this section.

Evermore: I got more emotional than I expected about this section! Willow is an Experience TM (in a good way ofc), but also, Marjorie nearly made me cry, and the setting in Tolerate it is so well thought out. The Champagne Problems bridge ♥ I don't even mind NBNC had been removed from the movie because it's not my personal favorite 😅

Reputation: this is my personal favorite era so it's no surprise I was pretty much jumping up and down on my seat... Wish it was a little longer tho, like it would have been amazing to have songs like I did something bad or Getaway Car in the set list, but I shouldn't complain because some other eras are even shorter. (Also, the transition between Don't blame me and Look what you made me do! Always gets me)

Speak now: Only Enchanted (since Long Live had been moved to the ending credits, which admittedly was probably a good move) but well, it's always a lot of fun to scream the chorus, and Taylor's dress in this section looks so gorgeous!

Red: probably my least favorite section mainly due to my low tolerance to the earworms, but it was still fun (yes I even sang along to waneegbt, which I didn't think I'd do :'D) and ATW never disappoints!

Folklore: dare I say.... the section where I noticed my attention starting to go to other things, even though there were also songs I love such as August and Illicit Affairs. I would have kept Cardigan in the movie and taken, idk, f. ex. tlgad out of this section if smth had to be cut. And! I may make a separate post about this but damn I realized that My tears ricochet is such a hijacked Peeta song! Maybe it's just me but there were many parts that I could connect with him, but yeah, more about that later.

1989: After the much calmer folklore section this felt like 'it's party time!!' :'D It felt somehow more special knowing that we'll get the TV in only a couple of weeks! I think this section has pretty much all those songs you'd expect it to have, and tbh I don't even mind too much Wildest dreams got cut from the movie version.

surprise songs: ngl the LA shows each had such /amazing/ surprise songs (imo) that they couldn't have gone wrong now matter which ones they would have filmed (I was secretly hoping for You are in love and/or 1 of the reputation songs she sang in the last few shows), but I was very happy about YOYOK. Even filmed the bridge part and I could hear myself yelling it in the bg 😅 Our song is also fun tho I'm not really that big on the debut album generally speaking.

Midnights: Another favorite of mine. Those sitting near me were probably annoyed by the loudness with which I sang 'it's me, hi, I'm the problem it's me'. Karma is such a great way to finish the show (in my biased opinion, bc Karma is definitely one of my favorite songs from Midnights), and I wouldn't take anything out of this section.

Overall experience: While I admit that the (almost) 3 hours were starting to feel at some point, I don't think I would want it any shorter, I had such a great time! My personal experience was made better by the subtitles because I'm still a rookie Swiftie who doesn't remember each and every song by heart so it really helped me to sing along 😂 The movie hall I was watching it in wasn't huge, and well, I'm Finnish and we Finns are not generally speaking known for being loud so it did not get too loud at any point, but me and my neighbors were still singing along pretty much the whole time and I was also pleased that many fellow movie visitors knew some regular habits from the concerts, such as doing the heart hands or yelling 1, 2, 3 let's go bitch, etc. Luckily no one stood up near me! It was probably a good thing to go on the premiere day because I could tell most of the others in the hall were fans and not just going there 'because why not'. (Nothing wrong with that, but I myself feel more comfortable when I know that those near me are not judging me for being an enthusiastic viewer) And, as an added bonus, I got a friendship bracelet!!! I didn't think anyone would bring them, but the one sitting right next to me did, and it was such a nice gesture (I got one that said 'Cruel Summer'. They also gave us the tour posters at the cinema)

This movie/concert made me also realize how much happier (Taylor's) music currently makes me, so thank you, Miss Swift, for allowing even us here in the cold north to see this before you've even toured Europe!

Overall, 10/10, would (and likely will) go again. And yep, can't wait for next May now!

So, I'm not a person who really feels fomo. When midnights was released I wasn't in the mood to listen to music, I had a lot on my mind, I was tired, stuff like that. I didn't listen to the album until today, November 15th 😅 today was my first time listening to it. I did watch antihero MV when it was released, tho.

I really love Lavender Haze. It sounds similar to some songs from reputation, which makes sense because that whole album is about Joe. Interesting and kind of nice to see that the vibes have held up.

Maroon - is this about Harry???? It's giving out of the woods/style/wildest dreams and just 1989 in general. But also this song says "sobbing with your head in your hands" and Harry is an aquarius.. that man does not cry.

The NYC lyrics gave me flashbacks to this traumatic event

You're On Your Own, Kid sounds like a speak now or fearless kind of song but without it being a good song like the ones in those albums. The only thing this song has going on is probably the fact that it could be relatable because of the story it's telling. But overall I don't think it's a good song and she can do so much better.

Question...? - If gaylors were real life lesbians they'd know the romance described in this song is too simple to be a lesbian romance 😝. The lyrics are simple tbh, there's nothing amazing about them but I love the concept. I really like the idea behind it, tho it could've definitely been developed better.

Bejeweled - I like it! I don't think it's particularly a good song but I just like it.

Books I read in October and my rating

1. Ninth house -Leigh bardugo -4/5

When I started reading this book I was so confused I didn’t know a single thing that was going on . Though after a while I got the plot and I loved it . Alex is an amazing strong main character . I’m upset about the cliffhanger miss bardugo needs to hurry her ass into releasing the second book rn.

2.Norwegian wood -murakami 4/5

This book was beyond amazing and heartbreaking, I was originally going to give this five stars but since it’s murakami the obscene language and sexism is always there . The ending was sad tho .

3.a clockwork orange - anthony burgess 3/5

well this book was really graphic and overall disturbing ( I wouldn’t say I enjoyed it but it was great ) main character was totally insane and so were his friends I mean the ending was ok .

4.daisy jones and the six -Taylor Jenkins Reid -5/5

i don’t think five stars are enough to describe how heartbreaking and amazing this book was , like truly a piece of art , when I tell you it had me sobbing and screaming , the ending caught me so off guard . Daisy was a strong and stubborn main character and I loved that . ( I loved all of the characters tbh ) daisybilly forreal broke my heart . ( I’m so exited for the tv adaptation the cast is just as good as the characters)

5.imagine me -tahere mafi (shatter me #6) -3/5

Im not going to deny that shatter me is one of my fave series and also my comfort series , however imagine me was quite disappointing, I didn’t like the dynamic between Anderson and Juliette , it’s like tahereh wanted us to feel bad for Paris which was ridiculous . I feel like they should’ve taken/ended the reestablishment differently. Though I loved the warnette wedding a lot the epilogue did justice to the book . KENJI AND NAZEERA THO they need their own books . ( ngl I cried w this book too lmfao)

6.the cruel prince -holly black -5.5/5

For a very long time I’ve known about the cruel prince due to booktok but I was never Interested on reading it . Well I did and I absolutely loved it , I originally only read it for jude and cardan but the politics are way more interesting it made me love the book even more ( it’s kind of like game of thrones but YA) again we have here anothe strong stubborn main character with shit loads of trauma which I loved , this book has all the hype it deserves tbh . Can’t wait to read the wicked king .

7. The white album -Joan didion -4/5

This is my first didion book . I cannot deny her talent she’s truly amazing , reading the white album did not only feel like a collection of experiences but it was entertaining and also super informative, it includes topics like Georgia O‘ keefe , Doris Lessing , the Manson murders , the Getty museum, the civil rights movement ( in general the whole 60s era ) cannot wait to read more of her work :)))

Welcome To Horrorwood - Love the part when I got jump scared by the beginning drop even when I knew it was coming 🙃 Such a good opening song, the breakdown was fantastic

A Rash Decision - Based on Cabin Fever, unfortunately have never seen it, but it's on my list now. Such a catchy, headboppin' song. Makes me wanna dance tbh. The choir bit was amazing

Assault & Batteries - Based on Child's Play, which I only watched after I listened to the song, but it was great. I fuckin' hate dolls, fuck that fuckin' doll. "Hey, Andy! IT'S TIME TO PLAY MOTHERFUCKER" Absolutely amazing. "Mommy! Mommy! My doll is alive!" Also love. "This two foot tall demonic doll will make you his bitch." The best lyric honestly. The whole song is just really fuckin' neat, okay?

The Shower Scene - Based on Psycho, an absolute masterpiece. The iconic theme incorporated was...just fuckin' incredible. But a piece of advice if you're as paranoid and irrational as I am, DO NOT listen to the song in the shower like I did. It gave me the heebie jeebies, embarrassingly.

Funeral Derangements - Based on Pet Sematary, I only watched the 2019 version but it was pretty good. Honestly, another jump scary beginning for me lmao. But hot damn, this song is heavy and awesome. "Oh my god...GAAAAAAAAAGEEEEE!!!" Genius. The chorus is so fuckin' catchy dude, I love it sm. "I played with Mommy, now I want to play with you." Uh...demon child, late abortion that thing. God, Spencer's purposeful voice cracks...perfection.

Rainy Day - I am such a big Resident Evil fan (the video games), so this song was amazing. Like I loved all of it, but the chorus was the best part. Can't tell ya how many times I've destroyed my vocal cords trying to sing that damn chorus.

Hip To Be Scared - AMERICAN PSYCHO, MY BELOVED. God just...ugh, everything about this song was perfection. The fuckin' 80's break in the song that turned into a breakdown...*chef's kiss* "HEY PAUL!" Screams, blood, gore, fleshy choppy noises. I love it. I love all of it. Sigh...I have to return some videotapes.

Take Your Pick - NSFW NSFW AHEAD......at that breakdown....I was throbbingggg. Literally, it was so sexy. I listened to it over and over and over...I've never seen My Bloody Valentine, but now I want to. The only thing I didn't really like was the "You'll be mine" parts, the voice is sooo annoying to me, which I guess may be intentional.

The Box - Sigh...never seen Hellraiser. Never really been a huge fan of body horror kind of movies like Saw, it just doesn't interest me. But the song was great! Lmao. Love the riffs, they're so good. I realllyyy love the chorus, so catchy. And the breakdown...unghhhh, I love a good breakdown. And Ryan Kirby...goddamn...I really need to listen to Fit For A King more

The Fly - Yikes, also never seen the Fly. Again, don't really vibe with body horror for the most part. But I might give it a try someday. But it's yet another catchy song. It feels more softer to me, kinda like the Love Bites of the album, but it's still amazing. "I'm not saying I'm, not playing God." Banger lyrics

Wurst Vacation - Okay, most of these movies I haven't seen lol. Hostel is now on my long list. But I fuckin' love the Rammstein vibes, along with the German lyrics. "Eins, zwei, drei, DIE!" Immaculate. The chorus!!!! I don't think INK can write a bad, non catchy chorus. It's impossible. and..."YOU'RE LIFE DON'T MEAN SCHEIßE!"

Ex-Mørtis - WELL GODDAMN. Haven't seen Evil Dead, but I have a feeling I'd like it ironically. This song is. so. GROOVY. It's incredible.

Farewell II Flesh - Now Candyman is REALLY a movie I need to see. But like, first of all, the Flight Of The Bumblebee incorporated in the song. Like...come on man, give me a break. Why is every song so goddamn clever. Ngl, I hate the buzzing in my ear, it gives me shivers, but I'll overlook it cause the song is such a banger. and AGAIN with the choruses ughhhhh fuuuu- Spencer's vocals!!! Fuuuuuuuuu-

All in all, this album was an absolute joy to listen to. 10/10, truly. It's so good and I'll be listening to it on repeat until my ears bleed🤘🏻

So one song I've lately is Dream a Little Dream of me by Doris Day it's so sweet my heart is so 💞 and yearning and her voice is so pretty! One of the first songs I learned was Que Sera Sera by her. Also been listening to ABBA (who I gave been a fan for ever since I was a kid) a lot since the beginning of this year expecially Voulez-Vous and Thank You For The Music.

Then I've been listening to Good 4 U by Olivia Rodrigo! Proper obsessed ngl it's really good (the paramore feels!!!!) And that brings me to Rose-Coloured by Paramore which is like an all time favourite for me. And Numb by Waterparks and the whole album tbh I absolutely love it. Oh also my friend recommended Verbatim by Mother Mother which I am OBSESSED with the lyrics are amazing.

Then there is K-pop lmao. What Is Love by Twice (which is so!! happy!! I'm literally obsessed), ALL IN by Stray Kids (which is Japanese I know), Drunk-Dazed by ENHYPEN (which I heard for the first time yesterday and I'm obsessed), Love Shot by EXO (please the bridge is LITERALLY the SAME as Back To You) and I Need You by BTS (all time favourite).

And finally the boys hdjdkd. Kill My Mind and Golden as always. Been listening to Niall a lot too, especially San Francisco and Flicker. And also surprisingly WS lmao. It's summer here and I've been having a LOT of watermelons (I'm actually having some rn fhfkdlkflx) also I have a new found obsession with the WS instrumental version. Okay I saw someone else ramble about a band I like so it's my turn. If you're interested in music with an over-arching story in the album(s) then you should totally give the dear hunter a look tbh. The story is set in the late 1800s, early 1900s and is about the main character, Hunter, and his eventual downfall due to his impulsiveness. The whole story spans over five albums and each song is absolutely killer, my favourite album being act V due to the amazing climax at the end of it

So we all can agree 2020 was hardly much but chaos and struggle, but there were some good things I don't want to overlook on this last day. Therefore, in no particular order, here are some bright things we had this year.

-We got the finale of Steven Universe Future, the end of the SU saga, and it was full of emotions of all kinds, but ended with our boy getting love and care from all his family and friends and that's all that matters yknow?

-Infinity Train books 2 and 3 holy shit man they both slapped so hard, one at the top of 2020 and the other in the middle. Wild. I really hope we keep getting more but what we've got was spectacular.

-Continuing the line of animation, like, The Owl House? Absolutely superb??? Hello??? Finally some good fucking food??? Lumity watered my crops, cleared my acne, saved my life??? Not to mention Eda and Lilith and Hooty and Willow and Gus oh gosh they're all so great

-ATLA got added to Netflix mid-year, and a whole swarm of new fandom was brought into the mix. with this came a lot of Zukka, and honestly not bad tbh.

-we got Sonic the Hedgehog this year y'all and lemme tell you it was honestly a solid movie which we were all not expecting at all. I went to see it twice and it was the last movie I saw in theaters. Totally worth it.

-Movies kinda got shot in the foot this year, but the ones I got to see in theaters besides Sonic were Dolittle, Knives Out, and Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of one Harley Quinn), along with a collection of animated short films nominated for Oscars this year. That last one was a pretty rocking experience ngl, and all of the ones in that collection were incredible.

-Speaking of that collection of short films, Hair Love won best animated short film, and even though there were so many incredible ones, Hair Love was so sweet and heartwarming and gorgeously animated, it was a deserving win.

-I think it goes without saying that Animal Crossing New Horizons has been one of the best things to come out this year, period.

-for better or worse, Hamilton proshot was released on Disney Plus in July, and In the Heights was pushed to next summer. Hey, we got to see everything from King George spit and everyone's sweat to every heart wrenching emotion and fun background actors you don't get to appreciate when watching bootlegs or listening to the album (particularly thinking of the Bullet character).

- do I need to mention the great conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn, or the double full moon of October? Absolutely brilliant.

-Fruits Basket Reboot!!! Holy hell has it amazing this year!!

-BNHA got lots of crazy reveals and arcs coming to heads this year with all kinds of fun in store for the next season of the anime

-y'all. Y'all. TWEWY not only got an anime adaptation announced with trailers that look amazing for a drop next year, but WE ALSO GOT NEOTWEWY....TWEWY2.....AFTER ALL THESE YEARS.....

-Doctor Who season 12 went hard all the way through and was so exciting to watch weekly the old fashioned way this year

-on a personal note, I got a couple amazing art commissions from my good friend @ghoststrawberries, and while I wanted to do more, I'm so so happy with getting what I was able to this year. (And I highly recommend commissioning them)

- Also another personal note, I was able to keep in touch with a lot of my friends, even some I haven't kept in good communication with, via letters and messages this year, and I've got a sweet collection of letters and cards from everyone I've connected to this year, and it's really nice.

-I participated in Camp NaNo April and July along with regular NaNoWriMo this year. I set and reached goals of 30,000 and 40,000 words for the Camp NaNo challenges and wrote every day; while I wasn't able to hit 50,000 words for NaNo proper per my hoped plans, I wrote about 10,000 more words than I did the previous year, and I'm proud of that considering how crazy my November was this year. Even though I didn't get to finish a second draft of my middle grade novel, I was able to work through a good amount of the research and worldbuilding through NaNo, and I'm proud of that.

It's been a hell kind of year, and I don't discount any of the struggles faced. But I wanted to just touch on some good stuff before closing out 2020. There's plenty more I didn't cover bc I'm 5 minutes away from sleep and am just listing off the top of my head, but I like this tradition of taking the good and appreciating it every year before the new one comes.
