Transiting Venus re-enters Aries

Timetable (current events in bold): Monday, January 30, Venus enters retrograde zone, 26:54 Pisces Friday, February 3, Venus enters Aries Saturday, March 4, Venus turns retrograde, 13:08 Aries Sunday, April 2, Venus retrogrades back into Pisces Saturday, April 15, Venus turns direct Friday, April 28, Venus re-enters Aries Thursday, May 18, Venus out of retrograde zone

The gemstone for Aries is traditionally said to be the diamond - the only substance known to be harder than the Ram’s stubborn head.

To conclude Inanna’s story: after she and the two rescue flies made it safely back from the Underworld, Ereshkigal (Queen of the Underworld) was understandably pissed off about (1) being tricked and (2) failing to stop the escape. What’s interesting about this final piece of the Inanna story, and our current Cosmic situation, is that Venus makes no major aspects at all until after she has cleared her retrograde zone. Only the Moon makes aspects Venus, and these last for only a few hours at most. This may reflect Inanna’s unwillingness to find a substitute among her own people, all of whom had grieved for her. (Her first aspect after exiting the retrograde zone is an opposition to Jupiter Rx/Libra -why, hello there, Dumuzi!)

Hence, there’s little “outside interference” as Venus retraces her steps through Aries. We don’t know quite what to do about any new romantic relationships that arise; we may or may not feel we can spend money lavishly (and may have odd ideas about what might be “lavish”); artistic projects need a bit more of a push to truly get underway. (Ms M is waiting for the upcoming Venus-Pallas conjunction in late May, before taking action on her own artistic urges.)

Remember astrologer Isabel Hickey’s caution about Venus in Aries: that the placement is “always seeking outwardly that which can only be found within.” It’s okay to take a little time to recalibrate our individual Venuses, and adjust to the new settings, before charging forth anew. Another point is that the traditional time to “take action” is the First Quarter; the equivalent for Venus, her “Greatest Western Elongation,” happens on Saturday, June 3. That may be the time when it “feels right” enough to begin Venus work.
