Red (Wincest Version)

Okay. So I've finnaly gotten around to doing my first proper wincest analysis of a song. Red (as inspired by the comment left by @brookesallow on my prev post).

I definitely did NOT use this as procrastination for my exams.

Touching him was like realizing all you ever wanted

Was right there in front of you

This could be viewed as the realisation Sam comes to the first time he kisses Dean; he realises all he needs in his life is his brother and Dean will always be there for him

Memorizing him was as easy as knowing all the words

To your old favorite song

Sam grew up with Dean, he knows everything about him, without even trying, and the second he sees Dean again, it all comes rushing back.

Fighting with him was like trying to solve a crossword

And realizing there's no right answer

Sam realises there is no way for both him and Dean to be happy if he goes to college, either way they’re both going to feel alone and be missing a piece of themselves

Regretting him was like wishing you never found out

That love could be that strong

This can be viewed in two ways. First as Sam wishing had never had a whirlwind romance with Dean before leaving for college because leaving his brother hurts more than it would have to never experienced that kind of love. Alternatively, it could represent Sam regretting coming to terms with his feelings, since knowing how he feels makes it all the more painful to leave.

Burning red

The idea of the red being ‘burning’ furthers the idea of the intense hatred Sam has towards himself for his feelings. It also demonstrates the intensity of his love for Dean.

Remembering him comes in flashbacks and echoes

We can see this as Sam having both traumatic flashbacks from hunts and memories of Dean taking care of him. Or as him seeing Dean in everything Jess does and is.

Tell myself it's time now gotta let go

Sam tells himself he needs to let go of Dean which could be why he went to college; he knows he needs to let go of the relationship because it can’t end well for them.

But moving on from him is impossible

Sam acknowledges the impossibility of truly leaving his family, and more specifically, Dean, since they will always be a part of him and his life.

When I still see it all in my head

We can view this as the memories of Sam’s past, and specifically Dean, haunting him through dreams and 

And that's why he's spinning 'round in my head

‘Spinning around’ is associated with dizziness and gives the impression that the memories of Dean make Sam feel uneasy or irregular in some way. Dizziness also lasts after the spinning which conveys the idea that these feelings last a long time. The idea of ‘spinning’ is also commonly associated with childish activities which suggests Sam misses not only Dean, but the childhood they shared.

Comes back to me, burning red

Once again, the burning represents the intensity of Sam's love as well as his anger towards himself. These feelings 'come back to him' when he sees Dean again in the Pilot.

His love was like driving a new Maserati down a dead end street

The echo of the first line is reminiscent of how Sam feels when Dean comes to get him in the Pilot; everything from his past is coming back and it’s like the love never left.

Chan's 1k Followers Challenge!

To commemorate my 1k followers milestone, I decided to hold a little writing challenge for you guys!

Now there's a twist, more like a spin because it'll be Spin The Wheel Challenge! The rules are a little...baffling, so please read them carefully and you have to be 18+ and you don't necessarily have to follow me but it'll be nice!

The general rules are as follows -

You can write for both Sam and Dean (I wouldn't say no to a Winchester sandwich either). All versions of the Winchesters (demon, soulless, AUs, are welcome)

Other than the SPN fandom, you can write for Marvel, Lucifer, Shadow&Bone, 911, Bridgerton

You can also write for Jensen and Jared (or a J2 sandwich), Ben Barnes, Chris Evans too. Honestly, if you want to write for characters not mentioned here, go for it! No worries, let the imagination run wild.

Characters x male readers are welcomed as well

The only donts here are - No Wincest or Destiel (not a fan, not a shipper), no underage smut, no wife-hate.

AUs and A/B/O verse fics are highly welcomed as well as non-cons and dubcons.

Minimum words - 500, maximum - there's no limit but I will prefer if you keep it as an oneshot or even a three parts miniseries.

Now that we are done with the general rules, let's dive into the rules specific to the game!

So I have five sets of different prompt lists - Set A include Song Prompts, Set B includes AU prompts and so on.

There are fifteen prompts in each sets (if necessary, I'll add more)

What you'll do is that you'll send me an ask or a message with the letter of your chosen set (A, B, C, D or E) and then I'll spin the wheel and on whichever number the arrow lands, is your prompt.

To participate you have to choose at least one set but the maximum number of sets you can choose? All five of them! Let the creativity run wild people!

Red(Taylor's Version) really is s a gorgeous masterpiece!!! I like it better than the original which is saying something since the original had such a special place in my heart- Red being the first album fo Taylor's i heard when it first came out in 2012.

Hard to say, and what a minefield for Dean (and Sam, but lbr this is about Dean) to walk. Tracking the way Dean thinks about John through the years--this might be s2, when Dad’s asked him for the last worst thing, and Dean’s furious and finally acknowledging all the fucked-up things... but still missing him. It’s never one thing or the other in that family--it’s always everything, all at once. Pretty damn brutal.

August (Wincest Version)

(this is just a personal analysis and this song could be interpreted in many different ways even from a wincest perspective, this is just an interpretation I really enjoy picturing when I listen to this song <3)

Okay so. This song is told from the pov of Stanford era Dean, reminiscing about his past with Sam when they were young, and how he felt that last summer they spent together before Sam left. In a nutshell this is THE pining!dean taylor swift song

Salt air, and the rust on your door

I never needed anything more

Setting the scene and the vibe of the story, "salt air" evokes the feeling of summer days of youth, but also how summer felt like for the Winchesters: breeze passing through salt-lined windows. The rust represents the gruesome reality that was their day to day, bringing to mind the image of a run-down motel door. But Dean never needed anything more – he wanted Sam as he was, he wanted their relationship and their life as it was. For him, that was enough

Whispers of "Are you sure?"

"Never have I ever before"

Devastating line that can be read as Dean asking Sam if he's sure about leaving, and Sam being adamant about it, but also as a clandestine (hence the whispers) romantic moment. This interpretation of this song is filled with double meanings like this one and that's what makes me go insane over it

But I can see us lost in the memory

August slipped away into a moment in time

August itself represents their last summer together before Sam left and how devastatingly fast it went by. But August also symbolizes their youth together before they drifted apart - what was Dean's whole world is gone and reduced to a memory

And I can see us twisted in bedsheets

Double meaning - first, "I can see us" refers to seeing the memory playing in his mind, and "twisted in bedsheets" can evoke the familiar, comforting image of them as kids sharing beds all the time, representing their close brotherly bond. On a second layer, "I can see us" means "I can see this happening, I keep imagining a future where this could be us", and "twisted in bedsheets" elicits a romantic or sexually charged image. This juxtaposition captures the nature of their bond, the dichotomy between their fraternal and romantic feelings

August sipped away like a bottle of wine

The comparison of their August to a bottle of wine symbolizes how their connection was so intense it was intoxicating, it gives it a sense of forbiddenness, and it evokes the intimate image of two lovers drinking from the same wine bottle

And not only that, he wishes he could mark him, brand him with his name, claim him as his own. Again the contrast between innocent sweet imagery and forbidden desires.

Self-explanatory, Dean remembering how he felt when Sam left, terrified of what he knew was inevitable, but also hoping Sam would want to keep contact with him, to come back to him. "I remember thinking I had you" - again the conflict of his possessive feelings and the hidden, blind, naïve hope that Sam could somehow belong to him, in every sense

Back when we were still changin' for the better

Reflects the transformative period when they were still growing up and discovering themselves and their feelings for each other

Wanting was enough

For me, it was enough

To live for the hope of it all

These lines encapsulate the emotional journey Dean went through as he grappled with his forbidden feelings for Sam. It portrays a time of self-discovery, yearning, and hope, where the intensity of his desire held enough weight to sustain Dean's happiness and provide a sense of purpose. Despite the pain, simply existing close to Sam made everything worth it. It was enough.

So much for summer love and saying "us"

Dean's shattered expectations and dreams of ever becoming something more than a brother to Sam, the realization that their bond won't ever go further

Dean's intense longing, his willingness to embrace the uncertainty and the pain of it all if it meant keeping Sam close.

"Meet me behind the mall"

Another double meaning. "Meet me behind the mall" is an insane line because it sounds like it says "meet me behind them all" (and this was the intended double meaning originally too). So "meet me behind the mall" represents Dean's desire to have Sam back - to call him and ask him to meet him and to come back to him and leave everything else behind. And then "meet me behind them all" adds another layer, it conveys a feeling of secrecy, of something clandestine that must be hidden from the world. This is Dean wondering, would you come back to me - would you be mine in secret, if I asked you?
