Taylor’s Eras Tour Captions: “soon”

This is me clowning so don’t take this completely serious lol. Throughout the Eras Tour so far, Taylor has posted on social media about the shows she’s done. I remember seeing people using Taylor emphasizing the number 3 in her captions to predict the Speak Now TV announcement/release. One of the 3’s used was a set of 3 emojis which kinda was kept in the back my mind...

Today for Taylor’s Denver post, she used the 🔜 emoji which I remembered she used before so I took a look at her previous captions. She originally used it to share pictures from Glendale N1 and talk about doing it again (“do the whole thing again”) 👀

So my theory is what if she is more or less going to repeat these “see you soon” sentences to the next city. And when it is “Hey *** you’re NEXT 💜” then we can expect the next re-recording album announcement. If so, there are 6 captions between Glendale N1 and Atlanta’s. The next shows are going to be (in order and this year) Seattle, Santa Clara, LA, Mexico City, Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, and Sâo Paulo.

Assuming she reuses the “play again tonight” caption for LA after that day break, we would land at something like “Hey Sâo Paulo, you’re NEXT 🩵” and an announcement in Brazil. Which kinda lines up with the break for the winter before the 2024 leg.

I mentioned earlier how people brought up the 3’s Taylor kept using. People are also now seeing a pattern with 5’s like Taylor saying “sooooo” and “Ahhhhh”. Could this mean that the next re-recording is 1989? Keep in mind that Taylor also goes to the 5th floor after the 3rd floor in the Bejeweled MV. Oh shit, if I remember correctly the last time Taylor performed at Dick Clark’s Rockin New Year’s Eve was in 2014 (bringing in 2015) with Welcome To New York and Shake It Off. What if we get to bring in the new year with those songs, Taylor Versions?

Now Taylor does not owe us another re-recording so soon and especially being so busy with tour. I am super grateful for Speak Now TV. This is more of a fun guess when I realized when I saw the Denver post. I also do realize there are theories that say Taylor is going continue with the double numbers and maybe something on 8/8 during the LA shows.

Apparently Taylor liked a TikTok with this theory that the Coney Island bridge spells out the order of her re-records with hints about her exes.

Did the Bejeweled Music Video tell us the order of release for the re-records?

So, I spent and obnoxiously insane amount of time going over the Bejeweled music video because Taylor said she put a psychotic amount of easter eggs in said video. And, well, I’ve spent six years watching The Game Theorist and The Film Theorists on YouTube that I thought, “I couldn’t possibly go insane from this?” there’s a reason, I fear, that there are sixty videos by them on FNAF alone— I digress. Amidst going insane by going frame by frame in this video, I came to one theory that has stuck with me this entire endeavor: the order of the rest of Taylor’s re-recordings. Now, I know you’re probably thinking: “Anne, there’s no possible way you were able to figure this out by watching the video a few times” and to that I say “She put a psychotic amount of easter eggs so I went hunting… I lost track after the twentieth time opening the video”. I felt like keeping tally marks would just land me in a concerning place… more concerning then I where I already am. Now this isn’t the first thing I’ve ever broken apart like this, but it IS the first I’ve shared. So, without further ado— no more ramblings from a mad woman (HA see what I did there?)— my conclusion and my evidence.

Now I know quite a few people have been under the assumption that Speak Now will be Taylor’s next (myself included until I started this whole ordeal), I have reason to believe it isn’t… not yet.

You see, after the two minute cold open that, let’s be honest, was amazing, we see Taylor fixing/making a black bedazzled cloak. It’s in her lap as she sews.

Now this in it of itself doesn’t mean much right? But then she goes into the elevator and when she turns around the parallel to the …Ready For It? music video are very clear (to me at the very least)

Tell me I’m insane for seeing it!

Bear with me, my leaps go further than this.

The hand covered in diamonds and rhinestones? Remind you of something?

Well, it sparked something in the recesses of my mind. And for a while I couldn’t quite place it, until I saw an edit on TikTok of the 1989 World Tour.

Now tell me you don’t see THAT!

If you don’t I could toss up the picture of Taylor from the Look What You Made Me Do music video and tell you it’s in reference to the bathtub full of diamonds she’s bathing in. Believe me that thought crossed my mind. However, the Out Of The Woods body suit she wore on tour just made more sense. Especially when we go back to everybody’s favorite: The elevator button!

The purple button that has made everyone else overlook the clear details in this video, never fear, I saw. I never gave up. Now this wonderful image has caused quite the tidal wave over social media. And now, I hear you again.

“Anne! It’s purple with the number three! Speak Now’s cover has Taylor in a purple dress and it always correlated with the color purple and Speak Now is her thirds album!” I hear you. Except the floor she steps gets off on isn’t exactly… Speak Now themed and neither is she. I will circle back to why the body suit being a reference to 1989 is important later. In the meantime:

This is the first image we see of the third floor. And this is how Taylor looks stepping off of said elevator.

Still looks very Reputation esc if you ask me.

This outfit makes me think about two Reputation Tour outfits. Like if these two merged together it would form the body suit above.

Now we make our way to Level 5 ( the fact that it’s blue is important. Blue is associated with 1989, and for the cherry on top 1989 is her 5th album)

Where we meet Dita von Teese looking like Taylor’s Wildest Dreams music videos character. 

And Taylor is wearing the same kind of wrap that we see from the Wildest Dreams music video as well.

After the room I’m dreaming as 1989 we move onto the talent competition that (spoilers) Taylor wins. Then during the part in all of this where Prince Jack is proposing to Taylor, she looks at the camera and you’re able to get a better look at two heart shaped clips in her hair that have S and N in them respectively.

Now you might being saying: “That doesn’t mean anything, Anne!”

And you would be right. If you weren’t paying attention to the Taylor that walks out onto the balcony.

Making her debut to us in her new castle, we see Taylor wearing once again two heart shaped clips in her hair, but this time they have a T and S in them respectively.

Now this I the part where you say: “Enchanted instrumental! Love live instrumental! The dragons! The BuTtOn!” While others are still annoyed by the fact I haven’t explained why I said the diamond and rhinestone clad hand being a reference to the 1989 world tour bodysuit. And to the latter I say this:

Let’s take another nice long look at it.

Because it (the bodysuit) is directly telling us what will lead into speak now. Remember how I told you about the cloak being a reference to …Ready For It? Which came off of Reputation. From the cloak (Reputation) she pulls the bedazzled hand (1989) which presses level 3 (which is purple and Speak Now).

Level three is the diamond room with the Reputation tour bodysuits merged into one. From there we have the Wildest Dreams room level 5. And level 13 is Speak Now. Go back to the word I used to describe Taylor making her way out onto the balcony of her new castle. Debut.

Let me break it down once more:

If the cloaked Taylor here is representing Reputation, and from “Reputation” she pulls “1989″, and then we get 1989 pressing “Speak Now”. Leaving us with the order of Reputation, 1989, and Speak now.

Is this all a reach? Sure. But it wouldn’t be fun to theorize if it wasn’t. Truthfully, as a fandom we get as much stuff right as we do wrong. However, knowing how Taylor loves leaving the most obvious things in plain sight (just think back to the Midnights release era where we looked back and felt ridiculous for not putting pieces together).

Am I convinced with this theory? Am I happy with it? The short answer is: yes. If I didn’t like the ideas I put in this, I wouldn’t have made this long post about any of it. 

Now I already hear you typing: “If the elevator numbers/color combinations don’t mean anything for the 3rd floor, why does it matter for the 5th?” Because if floor 3 really represented Speak Now it would have been speak now themed. The 5th floor is whites and blues with an aesthetic that Taylor leaned into with 1989, whereas the 3rd floor leaned into the aesthetics of Reputation rather than Speak Now.

Reputation being next would be a way of her reclaiming something she worked so hard on under the conditions she did. The vault will tell a whole other story. She reinvented herself for it. She had to come back stronger than a 90′s trend if you will. 

The 1989 lawsuit over Shake It Off was dropped on December 12th. Finally, we have the ability to get all of our favorites off of it re-recorded and re-released. And getting Clean (Taylor’s Version) after Red (Taylor’s Version) and Reputation (Taylor’s Version) will be therapeutic. It will also be available to us when we get the Speak Now vault— I digress once again.

And Taylor Swift (Taylor’s Version) would be such a poetic way of ending the re-recordings. She could have given it to us before Fearless and Red, but she didn’t. It will be the last one she releases and I think it’s symbolic.

In conclusion, it doesn’t matter if this is right or wrong. I just thought that the references were there and I would take some time to theorize and put it out there for other Swifties to chew on. Maybe something sticks, maybe it doesn’t. Either way; if you made it this far thank you. I know this wasn’t exactly short by any means. I hope that you enjoyed the ramblings of a mad woman as she tried her best to pick the brain of the Mastermind Taylor Swift. Who know’s, maybe at the very least I’ve sparked a few ideas in your mind as to what any of these things could mean.

I have a Theory, so I know we have all been wondering. Why doesn't she have a Reputation outfit of different color? My theory is that she is stuck in a box like all the others Taylor's are in the stage during the Reputation set my theory is that once she releases Reputation or she announces it we will see the different colors, just like the Speak Now Taylor has the microphone inside the box and I still don't know until we see her next week in Mexico is the cheerleader 1989 Taylor will have a microphone as well.

When Taylor Swift released the long-awaited rerecording of her genre-leaping album 1989, fans eagerly pored over vault tracks, theories of double albums, and limited edition vinyl releases that could predict Swift’s next re-record. But for Gaylors, a dedicated Swift fanbase that’s existed for over a decade, Swift’s prologue and a mention of her feelings surrounding speculation about her love life have dampened what should have been an exciting release.

Thinking about the 24-year-old she was when 1989 was released, Swift writes, “I swore off dating and decided to only focus on myself, my music, my growth, and my female friendships. If I only hung out with my female friends, people couldn’t sensationalize or sexualize that — right? I would learn later on that people could and people would.” Many users online interpreted that line as a subtle callout to Gaylors, supporters of the niche theory that Swift is queer or leaves queer messaging in her songs. But several members of the Gaylor community tell Rolling Stone they’re actually not convinced the callout is about them — and are receiving targeted and homophobic harassment in the process.

For those not extremely online, Gaylor is an unproven theory that Swift is queer and leaves messages alluding to past relationships in her work, a fan theory that originated on the blogging site Tumblr in the mid-2010s. It is also the fan name for groups of people who believe there are queer interpretations of Swift’s songs. (While Swift has been a vocal ally and advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and representation, she has never publicly commented on Gaylor and has only been in public relationships with men.) Gabriela, a 27-year-old Gaylor, tells Rolling Stone she doesn’t believe Swift’s prologue is about the Gaylor fandom specifically, but she’s frustrated at the use of the word ‘sexualize,” which she says has long been co-opted by fans who think Gaylor is harmful or inherently rude.

“I think it’s a call-out yes, but more to the media at large, rather than just about the Gaylor subset of her fandom, which is only a small piece of her complaint. [Swift] doesn’t want to be assumed to be in a sexual, romantic relationship with anyone she is seen next to,” Gabriela says. “Hetlors [those who object to the Gaylor discourse] are cherry-picking to make it about her ‘shutting down gay rumors.’”

As an internationally beloved artist — one capable of selling more movie tickets than Martin Scorcese and convincing an entire fandom to rebuy her music her way — Swift professes an unusually close relationship with her followers. The lyricist often hides clues in her work and visuals, encouraging fans to decipher what coded messages and hints she’s leaving behind. But Swift has also verbalized how upset slut-shaming and assumptions about her love life make her. Anna, a 23-year-old Gaylor who uses they/them pronouns, agrees that the prologue wasn’t about Gaylor specifically but says they do think all Swift fans online could operate with more boundaries.

“Of course, I’m a little annoyed that people are pulling one or two lines of the prologue out of context and using it as a justification to be homophobic and send death threats to my friends, but I don’t think Taylor is at fault for people misconstruing her words and I think she has every right to call out things that make her uncomfortable,” Anna tells Rolling Stone. “’Shipping’ culture across the fandom seems to have gotten really ugly recently on all accounts. I’ve seen people speculate on her sex life, openly and graphically, track her location, insinuate that she wants/has children and just overall cross a lot of boundaries. It may be unpopular for me to say it, but I do think members on all sides needed to be put in their place a little bit.”

All of the Gaylor fans who spoke to Rolling Stone expressed that beyond the prologue, much of the reaction to them as a group has stemmed from a lack of understanding about why the fandom exists and has lasted for almost a decade. Liv, 26, says that the Gaylor community has been a large part of her life — it’s even how she met her current boyfriend. And she tells Rolling Stone the identity has allowed her to have a deeper understanding of Swift’s lyrics.

“It’s always fun for me to think about what inspired a song. So even if it’s not what happened in Taylor’s life, it’s interesting for me to think about a song through a queer lens, because I feel like it adds a lot of layers that a song about a guy might not have,” Liv says. “And I don’t really know any straight people who are that deeply obsessed with Emily Dickinson.”

The X account @gaylornews has over 12,000 followers. The admin behind the account declined to include her name but tells Rolling Stone Gaylor isn’t just a fun internet conspiracy theory, but means a lot to the community.

“Analyzing her lyrics through a queer perspective is more about defying heteronormative narratives and finding representation and not about invading Taylor’s privacy or sensationalizing her personal life,” the account owner says. “Gaylor is about queer people finding a safe space which straight people not only find but already have everywhere, is about all the things you never learned about yourself, is about feeling seen and genuinely understood.”

Regardless of what people think the prologue is about, Gaylors are worried about one thing: targeted harassment from more mainstream fans of Swift. In an April 2023 report from social media tracking firm Graphika, researchers found that Gaylors made up nine percent of active Swift fans on social media, but are often exiled and isolated from neutral fan spaces. The study also found that anti-Gaylor accounts, also referred to as Hetlors, “play a key role” in how the theory is presented to mainstream audiences and often misrepresent commonly held Gaylor beliefs, which can lead to the harassment and doxxing of neutral Gaylor accounts. Each of the Gaylors who spoke to Rolling Stone detailed targeted harassment, hate speech, and homophobia they’ve received online, something they all believe Swift would stand against.

“I think that people who are against Gaylors think we’re way more serious about it than we are. A lot of the things we say are jokes or ideas or possible theories,” Liv says. “And at the end of the day, none of us know what the truth is about her personal relationships. And we shouldn’t want to because [Taylor Swift] is entitled to her privacy.”

i think the funniest thing about this album is that swifties were fully convinced that there were going to be songs about taylor regretting being in a private relationship, songs about joe not being supportive, him being ashamed of being with her, him cheating, him isolating her, those theories about the song titles like "but daddy i love him" being about losing her voice like ariel (even tho she released 5 albums and 2 rerecordings while with him lol), or something about how an albatross spends six years at sea before returning to land etc, etc. but they got none of that and all they can do now is take lyrics out of context or convince themselves some of the matty songs are about joe

A TTPD theory

Take this as fiction, or view it as a thought experiment in how what we see can be taken in a number of ways. We are not privy to anything in Taylors life but her lyrics, social media posts and paparazzi photos, and for many years Taylor has been a continuous participant in pap photos as promotion, and keenly engaged and aware of how her fanbase reads things. I think most fans think what she wants them too, which isn't always her actual experience. She has told us this in songs like Dear Reader, Mirrorball and a lot of TTPD. Taylor has also acted out or given quotes to seed songs, in the lead up to or after their release before too.

In this post I talked about how the TTPD prologue has three muses and I'll highlight this line after the 'cosmic' muse I think is Harry:

So, here's my fan fiction/thought experiment. To me I think what started as wishing to be in a different relationship, became friendly flirting. Where I think it went wrong was in wanting different things at the time, as Taylor said in the prologue, 'some stars ever align', I still hope they do one day.

We start our story at the 2021 Grammy's (March 2021)

2021 timeline

Harry and Taylor were seen together for the first time in 6 years at the 2021 Grammy's, where both were seen looking at the other and they spoke. Their body language in the video of them talking is interesting. Taylor is leaning forward, gesturing a lot, she looks confident but also tense. Harry is the one to start it, but he looks away when she says something and it looks like he ends the conversation with pleasantries. She goes home and writes High Infidelity about resenting a partner and having an affair, outing April 29 in the process. He writes As it Was and Love of My Life about accepting something special is gone forever.

TTPD guesses for this time:

I look through people's windows - I think this song refers to the 2021 Grammy's, it refers to the muse catching their breath, tilting their head. They are someone close now distant. Sliding doors and what if's. It sounds like that conversation.

Guilty as Sin? - This song is seems early in Taylors thinking about leaving Joe, she is feeling guilty about wishing she was with someone else. High Infidelity we know was written then is oddly similar, but GAS is a current thought process with Haylor links.

Peter - I think it fits for vibes of 'life was easier on you'

They saw each other again at the Brits in May when I think Glitch was written, Joe was in Belfast filming then.

On July 24 2021, for the anniversary of Folklore Taylor posted a photo of herself with two (double album) coffee cups (Karma MV) and text which could fit into an Eras tour Betty Speech, highlighting 'victorian ghost' and The Lakes (poets)

On 18 June 2021 Taylor announces Red TV and says “tortured by memories past”

My Boy Only Breaks His Favourite Toys - the Red TV announcement refers to Wild that is on TTPD 11 times and Red 4 times, most in that song. Taylor also used the sandcastles in 1989 Spotify Visuals

August - October 2021

This is where I wonder if a friendship was becoming flirtatious. Or with the rerecording of Red and being unhappy with Joe if perhaps Taylor was thinking more about a road not taken. Taylor had a version of the title track written and decided it was a title track and an emerging aesthetic to easter egg by September 2021. Harry was very overt too, on their anniversary he performed in white satin in Nashville wearing the Peace Ring. I think it was a flirtation then.

Released the ATW short film with typewriters super clear and and included them in the merch too.

Harry has the first heart kiss since 2018 in St Paul! Then wears all white satin and wears and plays with his Peace Ring (for the first time in years) to perform in Nashville while Taylor in town, a few days after their anniversary, and adds To Be So Lonely to the setlist. Then he records Satellite.

This is when the majority of Midnights was written. Taylor was also not seen much after the ATW release, Joe was in Panama. You're Losing Me was recorded, if TTPD songs are from here that's hard to tell. Harry was MIA for 2 weeks before Taylors birthday and in this period Taylor wore a Gucci Lion Ring to Zoe's birthday, interesting with the amount of ring talk on TTPD. Question…? Written.

2022 timeline

Matty Healy first worked with Jack sometime after 5 January.

21 January - Charlie Puth includes painting a red fence in his MV he later refers to when promoting TTPD. - So the left typewriter/Charlie Puth of it all is way too early for MH.

April 2022, Harry said “to BFs everywhere F U” which I think was directed at Joe. So he knew whatever Joe did. Drake also shouted out supportively Taylor on 19 April. Joe's costar's name in the final cut of CWF (Ep 3, 11:55).

Harry's House released on Harry and Taylors 20 May anniversary. As it was MV beforehand.

I still think it was Joever (or they were on a break) May 2022

In November I posted that I thought Midnight was the break up album. Suggesting that I think Joe and Taylor broke up by May 2022. I had thought that Joe may have agreed to a number of appearances to provide them both time to process and ready themselves for Taylors fans finding out.

I still think this, though perhaps it also could have been a break. The speed with which Taylor moved on could have that the break up was raw for us, not her.

I primarily thought this because Joe was at a random Hollywood party rather than her NYU Graduation, and she stopped liking his IG posts then, which she had done reliably.

This is to say, I think Taylor held back in Midnights and at least some of it was written before the 2 years she said at the Grammy's.

August - October 2022

By August friendly flirtation had been going on for a year, Harry dressed for eras as the rerecords were announced. They were in communication so much he knew when she was announcing things before she did. On the night of the VMAs he was dressed in blue stars to match her Midnights after party dress while Joe dragged her out to a car. I wonder if Fortnight was set after they were both at TIFF then New York for 2 weeks during Harry's residency, Harry seemed to be really struggling after that. My guess is that with the impending bad press of the Nanny/OWs relationship - any part in it being Joever would have been out of the question.

August 2022 - Harry and OW are in a Rolling Stone interview, they interviewed them in April and it came much later, but I think this is referred to in loml and something Taylor would have especially not liked given her desire for a power couple

The OW/Shia drama came to light and that relationship looked done by 5 September at the DWD premiere.

7 September - 30 October Harry wore the Peace Ring again at HSLOT shows. They were both at the Tiff Film Festival, (where Taylor mentioned typewriters again).

They were then both in New York during his residency ending 21 September, where he also played Ever Since New York for the first time in 4 years. This is my guess for when Fortnight is set.

There were blinds Joe was texting other people.

The TTPD Spotify room included a safe (vault) from Toronto 👀

In October 6 - 10 Harry postponed 2 shows due to Illness, with Sony saying Harry was not unwell. Now, other Sony artists postponed shows and this Reddit thread suggests it is over the Nanny scandal (but I don't think Harry would be so cut up about that story to cancel shows and call his mum) so there could be lots of reasons for this. But it is a real anomaly.... and Anne and Gemma flew from England to support him when he performed again.

12 October - Charlie Puth easter eggs TTPD on Fallon.

Eras Tour training started September 2022 - in the Time interview Taylor said she stopped drinking and ran on the treadmill for 6 months before tour began. The Typewriters were also in the Eras set for The Man.

"This time, she began training six months ahead of the first show. “Every day I would run on the treadmill, singing the entire set list out loud,”" and "“Learning choreography is not my strong suit.” With the exception of Grammy night—which was “hilarious,” she says—she also stopped drinking. “Doing that show with a hangover,” she says ominously. “I don’t want to know that world.”

TTPD guesses for this time:

Fortnight - I think the references to a cheating husband (current tense) and wife, (the Clean lyric similarity of watering flowers) places this here. I think the August 2022 Rolling Stone with OW is part inspiration for that line. Also functioning alcoholic/time magazine quote, here or soon after.

loml - this song would have come after Harry's House. I think the Valiant Roar is a reference to the August 2022 Rolling Stone Interview with OW and Harry, I also wonder about June 2022.

Down Bad - This fits narratively if the Fortnight was September and it ended in October that puts Taylor 'down bad crying at the gym' while preparing for the Eras tour. The staring at the sky / CBBH reference also make sense to be after Taylor heard Satellite and re-recorded Red TV.

Joever announced. I have a long post on the Maylor thing. My perspective is that Harry wasn't up for more than friends at that time, Matty is known for deep resentment of Harry. Matty & Taylor were both on tour, they weren't in the same city apart from the handful of times they were seen, and they were overseas from each other when it started and ended... and Matty implied it was not sincere. Taylors team also said it was not serious. Fans see it differently and that's OK. But to me it was trolling of the highest order from them both.

On 9 April Harry played golf at Augusta Georgia and disappeared for 2 weeks. In April 12 Taylor wore the Gucci Lion ring, she went to Florida, MH in Australia, HS MIA last seen in Georgia. Most of the MH public stuff was after that. Harry also added Stockholm Syndrome and Grapejuice to his setlist and seen outside Cartier before Taylor starts wearing the Necklace after their old anniversary. It's a mess. The MH thing ended.

Actually the foundation to Taylor Swift conspiracy theories is that the right completely misunderstands what happened with her masters

They think they were bought by George Soros for one (his son Alex partially funded the purchase of her back catalog) but also they think her masters being owned by someone else means her songs are owned by someone else. Accordingly they think it's suspicious that she's rerecorded them and continued to perform them on the Eras tour. They fucked up the basic details at square one and so everything else they believe is immediately Wrong As Hell

So they come up with theories about how she must've made a secret deal with Soros and Joe Biden to get Joe Biden re-elected in order to get "permission" to perform her songs again; they think Taylor Swift lost the rights to her songs, and joined a conspiracy to get them back. You may wonder how they explain why she's rerecording her songs if she has the rights to them again. The answer is, they don't explain that bc they don't understand that she's rerecording them and think she's simply rereleasing her old albums.

They failed to comprehend even a single aspect of a pop culture story just about everyone else fully understands (I don't listen to Taylor Swift and I know all of it), and are frantically making conspiracy theories to explain why it definitely makes sense

Hello!!

I recently discovered your blog and I love the way you voice your opinions. I'm not a Swiftie per se, but I am deeply interested in her discography and I follow the Eras Tour a lot(especially the surprise songs), so yeah. I had a theory about Taylor and Joe but i never shared it with anyone because it felt like crossing into the parasocial territory lol, but i feel like I can share it with you!

So I always had this thought that Taylor used to think that she will probably slide into a sort of a "veteran" territory of musicians- not like she will not release music at all, but her music will never catapult her to the level of success she had with Fearless or 1989 (like she said in Miss Americana), especially during Lover. So many performances and interviews during Lover to push that album as compared to little or no interviews and promotion during Midnights and TTPD (Yes, they were promoted too but it was more of a marketing push than her own efforts to promote it via interviews and performances). And she was not wrong, especially the way women are treated in music and acting fields as soon as they touch 30. Folklore was a surprise drop, and she probably dropped it with a thought that only her dedicated fanbase will enjoy it, like what happens with music veteran musicians drop. That period where she wrote Folklore and Evermore were probably the closest glimpse in Taylor and Joe's ideal life together in future- away from the prying eyes, living in peace, them collaborating on Taylor's music and Taylor supporting his career. After all, it worked very well for them during Reputation. It was sort of an unspoken path they silently agreed on. But then Folklore and Evermore gave her commercial as well as critical success, her rerecordings of Fearless and Red (which were also a project she thought will only be enjoyed by her fans) compounded that success- and she finally understood that this is her chance to have that level of success again- and she thought that Joe will support her. But probably their ideas of moving forward sadly clashed with each other. She was not only breaking their silent pact, but she was moving towards that level of success he was not comfortable with on a personal level at all. And the sad part is that I totally understand both of them. If someone as ambitious as Taylor was given a chance at success after thinking for years that she simply won't, it's so natural to take that chance. I would have too. But if your partner is wildly successful, it not only creates this unwanted resentment in your head but you're also scrutinized for not "stepping up". She kept choosing that "pain", and he kept wanting it "comfortable".

(Again, not wanting to step into the parasocial territory. I do not know these people and I cannot speak for them, but yeah. Just some thoughts based on her discography because Midnights was such an interesting era for me)

i think some of this is supported by ttpd - there was resentment and uncertainty he even wanted to be with her ala so long london, "he was a hot house flower to my outdoorsman," she said she tried dimming the shining in the epilogue! we don't know for a fact that joe hated she was successful because it made him feel lesser, but she does at one point say (about joe or matty) "you said i needed a brave man then proceeded to play him" implying that part of swindle was that he told her her life was too big, too complicated, too hard for anyone but someone willing to handle it all.

and it's just a really common phenomenon in relationships: growing apart, growing resentful, being in denial, not being able to give each other what you want. that's why "all breakups are the same" is the tagline here!
