5 + 1 Fic Friday Roundup: Doorstoppers (II)
Have some more very long reads (100 or more chapters) from all different fandoms in this month of March.
Rebuilding (FF) - "Hermione Granger returns to Hogwarts to help rebuild the shattered castle the summer after the war. She and the other summer resident - and eventually their friends - have to come to terms with how the war broke more than just the walls of the building. Follows multiple Hogwarts students through '8th year' and one additional year of early adulthood."
The Savoir King, The Master Tactician, and the Queen of Liberation (AO3) - "Fate has a way of playing tricks on people even as it brings them together. Some of Foldan's legends say that when calamity comes, the goddess binds the souls of champions to ensure they fight at each other's side, onward to victory. Less spiritually-inclined individuals say that conflict makes friends, allies and more out of strange bedfellows."
Dreaming of Sunshine (FF) - "Life as a ninja. It starts with confusion and terror and doesn't get any better from there. OC Self-insert. No pairings."
Trailblazer (SB / AO3) - "The Capes. The Gangs. The Drugs. The cycle continues like an endless waltz. The world is broken. The world needs to change."
Ever Seen a Devil with a Halo? (AO3) - "Clary Fairchild is annoying. This much, Alec Lightwood is sure of, and he's not about to change his mind. So why did he agree to go on a blind date with her friend? Because he'd obviously lost his goddamn mind."
Bonus: A Farmer's Tale (AO3 / SB / FF) - "A 30-year-old American farmer is sent to the world of ASOIAF. Follow as he tries to create a life for himself."

I appreciate that!
And uhh, yeah. Taylor Hebert is rapidly approaching "character of all time" status and I've only read three arcs. There's so many goddamn things going on with this girl, she's the lowest wretch in the earth, she's the queen of heaven, she walks this constant seesawing path between high-minded and petty, she's got a strong sense of right and wrong and an incredible capacity for violence. I only know the broad strokes of her story but everything that's been getting filled in as I read is just. Like, I get it. I get the fixation on her.
(What I get significantly less is how many people basically decide to core out Taylor's personality so that she can be an OC wearing a protagonist's skin, why would you ever ditch this much character?)

Alright, been thinking about this for the last four - five hours, and I figure Tumblr would be a great place to put my thoughts out there.
I've got an idea for my first Worm fanfiction. Combine Taylor Hebert, maybe a week or two after her release from the mental health ward, with an OC of mine from my time playing a Neverwinter Nights persistent world server; a drow Cleric of Lolth, freshly transformed into a Drider (a sort've cursed half drow, half spider centaur). I've probably talked about this a few times in either the Gaylor or Cauldron discord. I was mostly hoping to get an opinion from my followers and mutuals here on the OC in question, since Taylor Hebert is already a well known quantity.
Her name is Illiam'ala. I apologize to anyone using screen readers. I'm not sure what to tell you all about her; I don't want to reveal identifying information about the other characters and players I interacted with on the server, without their permission. I can definitely say that she's a drow's drow; cold, calculating, cruel. Paranoia rules her everyday life and the concerns of status, power and her personal security are always on her mind. I don't really intend to retell her story on the server, I considered it concluded when I wrapped up the character and deleted her.
But here she is, occupying space in my mind. Making comments on Taylor's actions. Both of them joining eachother in my head to talk about fanfiction I'm reading. How situations would've gone down different if they were there, together. If they're going to sit in my mind, I'm going to charge rent, I've decided.
So here's the new story for poor Illiam'ala. The original end of her story had her return to Menzoberranzan, and upon her return, she would be judged for her actions and accomplishments. In one timeline, she was received warmly (as warmly as a drow can be received by her goddess and her matron) and congratulated for what she had done, and the Temple she left behind written off as a lost cause.
In this timeline, she is punished. Personally, by Lolth. Dispatched to Earth Bet, to fulfill dark designs. Dropped infront of Taylor Hebert, who will serve as her Omen. I haven't yet decided what Taylor does, or what her rationalizations are here, but something about the situation causes her to take care of Illiam until she can return her traumatized mind to something resembling normalcy.
I'm not really sure where to start the story. Do I start in the alley where Taylor found her? Or maybe three months in? The day of the juice, the Lung fight, but everything's slightly off during the intro, right up until Illiam'ala's reveal (kinda spoiling it here now tho), when it's suddenly made clear that Taylor's been able to stick out this long because Illiam's been worming her way into Taylor's mind, reinforcing her with a helpful hand, forging magical equipment to augment her in the field, preparing for her debut. Everything slightly shifted because Illiam's given Taylor something as an example.
I'm sort've rambling here. In short, I want to introduce something that I don't think I've ever read in my time reading Wormfic or literature in general; a toxic mentorship between a girl and a much older woman (she's somewhere in her fourth century of life). Taylor slowly getting an idea of what Illiam'ala's world was like and Illiam'ala getting an idea of what the modern day - and what Earth Bet - is like. Culture shock. Taylor's hope for the future versus Illiam'ala's dark purpose, both of them thinking about their status and their worth in society, from massively different perspectives and values. I think I have to do some reading! About cults and how they hold people, except with actual miracles, tempered a little by the fact that every traumatized individual in Earth Bet can do something similar, at least until you start returning people from the dead. Reading about toxic relationships. I think I can pull off the manipulative rationalization. I'll need to pack a whole lot of life experience into a fictional character. She'll have to be smarter than me, wiser than me - and with such a long lifespan - probably more traumatized and subsequently compartmentalized than I'd ever be, stretched over twenty times my own lifetime.
I guess I'm asking if you'd all be interested in that? Everything's very much a work in progress. I don't know if I'll have anything ready for a chapter one yet, but I've got a rough plotline ready, all the way past Leviathan. Part of why I love reading character analysis posts here is that lately I've been going "Huh, how'd Illiam'ala figure that out." or "How could she use this knowledge" or "What would she do? What spells would she cast?"
I'll finish this post off with saying that I've never played DND ever, not any of the editions. I may read up on how things are done in pen and paper, but I don't see myself playing things strictly by the rules as written or intended. She was a max level cleric on the server, so it stands to reason she'd be a powerful cleric in the text too. I've been doing some reading on cleric spell lists and spell components and holy symbols, and looking for things to include as story beats and plot points. Resources, requirements, weakness to include; if someone were to pilfer her holy symbol, she'd lose a lot of capability if she didn't have a component pouch. A lot of materials that would be easy to find in Faerun won't be available in Earth Bet, and if they are, they'd likely be under different names. Sorry for the long post.

Silly Game Time: Who are the protagonists of two stories you really enjoy? (could be from any media: movies, shows, novels, games, comics, etc.) (yes, OCs count)
AND which of them would win in a game of mini-golf?
Well, there's Taylor Hebert from Worm
Tumblr media
(not my art)
And then there's The Dude, Mr. Grand Admiral Mitth'raw'nuruodo!
Tumblr media
As for the mini golf? Both of these people have extremely fucked-up perceptions of competition and rigorously train for hand-to-hand combat. I guess I'd put my bets on Thrawn?

Hi, um, I know this is pretty random and not even a real question, but sometimes I just want to go to young, innocent 14/15 year old Taylor and give her a hug while "No time for toxic people" by Imagine Dragons plays in the background.
(I can speak from experience that having an earworm of this song/thinking about the lyrics really helps a lot when you are being bullied :)
THIS IS SUCH A SWEET ASK 😭 I had to make it real... one can imagine Taylor Hebert happy...
Tumblr media
everyone is free to draw themself/their oc/sona/another character into the taylor hebert hug btw! she gets ALL the hugs :)

Alright folks it’s OC time welcome back it’s been ten thousand years
Welcome to Tellius, where healing isn’t free and everyone hates you!
Alright, it’s been entire months but I finally have motivation to actually write more about my ocs. Specifically, my OCs for Pokemon Empire, a game that defines itself by extensive reworks of moves, abilities, and pokemon, as well as through the complex ethical dilemmas and real-world themes the game’s story attempts to engage with. I don’t think the game always handles these real-world issues with the most tact, but I find the comprehensive gameplay overhaul incredibly interesting and I’m mostly following the story out of morbid curiosity about what the viewpoints of the characters say about the viewpoints of the creators.
Unfortunately, all these “complex dilemmas” require just a little explaining.
The primary conflict in Empire is between the Council, which took power in a revolution against Mad King Tobias some years ago, and Team Royale, an underground resistance led by Tobias’ widow, the former queen. To summarize them briefly:
Council: Expand business, increase profits, increase regulation, refers to official trainers as “Tellius League Operatives” (TLOs) and treats them as a police/military force. Publicly espouses ideals of progress, unity, and prosperity, but condones mad science and police brutality behind closed doors. The reason Pokecenters cost money.
Royale: Get the Secret Heir on the throne and a crown on his head by basically any means necessary. “Restore Tradition” and everything it implies. Pays lip service towards respecting and protecting the people, but views them as “necessary sacrifices” if it comes down to it. The reason a lot of people are dead.
Basically, both of these sides are awful!
While the game isn’t finished yet, the devs have indicated that the finished game will have three different endings—one Council, one Royale, and one labeled “Self-Rule” it’s unclear whether the devs mean that in an anarchist way or a libertarian way, and frankly that mystery is half the reason I keep playing this game!
So, due to the way that all three routes are range from “morally ambiguous” to “ghoulishly evil” my ocs for this game are generally a bunch of assholes. Also, I’ve decided they all coexist in the same timeline (and all went to school together), despite the issues this causes for canon, because then I can make two of them be as divorced as two unmarried young women can possibly be.
Unfortunately if I tried to do actual OC pages here it would take ages, due to using strategies/mons unique to Empire
To summarize once again:
Jeanne: Self-Rule. “What if Jeanne D’Arc was an anarchist?” Named after Jalter specifically. Primarily, uses specially offensive Poison, Fire, and Dark types to abuse the Empire-exclusive Smog weather type. Always tries to do the right thing, but somehow that just keeps turning everyone against her, so she’s slowly but steadily turning into a bitter, cynical asshole. No real naming scheme. Signature mons include Skuntank, Zangoose, and Magmortar.
Taylor: Council. “What if Junko Enoshima was a cop?” Named after Taylor “Skitter” Hebert from Worm to represent her ruthlessness, and Taylor Swift to represent Capitalism, Baybee! Primarily uses Steel, Electric, and Fighting types, and focuses on using Critical Hits, especially with the new feature of electric-terrain boosting crit chance and the Sadist ability (yeah) guaranteeing crits on enemies with most kinds of status. Says only what people want to hear, but she’ll do whatever it takes to gain power and fame under the council. Manages to have even more wrong with her than any other character in this paragraph. Signature mons include Flaminquent (new Fairy/Steel physical sweeper), Seviper, and Electivire.
Alexandria: Royale. “What if Indiana Jones was a monarchist” Named after the library, and also Alexander the giant robotcastle from Final Fantasy. An archaeologist who became a little too into history, and now wants to repeat it. She’s all about time, and so she uses a Sand/Trick Room team featuring mostly Steel, Rock, and Psychic types. Some of her signature mons are Claydol (one of the 9 starters, and one of the few sources of TR in the current episode), Caracoldron (Magcargo evo, features in the lore), and Escavalier.
The sharp-eyed among you will notice two of these characters use pokemon in matched pairs! They can’t stand each other.
Basically Jeanne and Taylor used to be friends (maybe…even more…), but when they fled the country during the first Royale uprising, Jeanne went off and read some funny books about capital, and she comes back to the region with high hopes to challenge the system and make life better…but Taylor, who kind of has her whole sense of self-worth and morality tied up in being this ideal champion/idol/celeb/cop for the council, just doesn’t feel the same.
Somedays they’re catty and petty, calling each other out for using each other’s types or stats. Somedays they just do their best to avoid each other. Somedays they come really, really, close to…something. Whether it’s kissing or killing is hard to say.
Even so, neither of them is really close with Alex. More than anyone, it seems these days she’s just a totally different person than the cheerful history nerd they know from school.
Ok, now that the introductions are out of the way, I’ll be introducing these girls and their full strats/mons/relationships in their own pages, but I wanted to provide a little context before I went in-depth. Plus I haven’t played Empire in a while so I needed to reignite the brainrot a little so I could really say what I wanted.

😈🥺⛔?
Once again i am so so sorry about the slow reply, this was another ask game i couldnt find until now BUT BAM HERE IT IS
ask game from here
😈 Has there been a point in a story where you did something just to be playfully mean to your readers?
i mean. [points vaguely at banshee in a well] jdfdjf but yeah, the dick and tim confrontation in chapter 3? i originally wrote them reconciling and having tim return to the manor, but then thought no no, you know what my readers will like? if i do this instead. and blam. they argued and tim decided to go full petty mode!
🥺 Is there a certain type of moment or common interaction between your characters that never fails to put you in your feels?
expressions of love and affection, particularly when the characters affirm that they are important. im a sucker for familial affection and reconciliation, and it always makes me go soft. meanwhile, i start sobbing at depressed introspection or when one character realises the other just. doesnt want to live. when done well, it leaves me feeling raw and unable to concentrate on anything. granted, the latter usually happens to me, but more so
⛔ Do you have a fic you started, but scrapped?
actually yes! i dont really delete or scrap ideas, but there are multiple lurking in my files unlikely to ever see the light of day, apart from a handful of moments where i decide to open them up and reread what i wrote. this includes: a dishonoured fic post high chaos where corvo lets emily fall but she survives and is given the mark early, a naruto oc insert as Rin post chidori, and giving taylor hebert from Worm: Parahumans the powers of the Radiance from hollow knight

5 + 1 Fic Friday Roundup: Uplifting Women
Some fics revolving around women (and one man in a woman’s body) who lift their family/community/world up. May is the month of Mental Health Awareness after all - though I went for tech uplift instead of creating an uplifting atmosphere via emotional labor (though there is some of that in some of these as well).
1. Down the Rabbit Hole to Westeros (AO3)  -  A SI into Selyse Florent, later Selyse Baratheon. Refusing this time around to be vexed by a mustache, lack of indoor plumbing, and no more guacamole in favor of keeping her eyes on the prize: Surviving the upcoming Long Night and not letting Melisandre go Full Melisandre.
2. Compass of thy Soul (FF / AO3) -  Being reborn into the Uchiha clan during the Warring Clans Era is surprisingly idyllic, so long as you don't mind hard work and are too young to know any of the people who are actually dying. But innocence never lasts, and trying to help family stay alive is a road strewn with a surprising number of pitfalls and last-minute diversions. [SI-OC. Fluff, politics, fix-it. No Aliens.]
3. Sanitize (FF / AO3) -  Basic medicine and sanitation are simple. During the Warring Clans era, they become revolutionary. [OC-Insert]
4. Cold Winds Blowing (SB) -  Maia, a young woman without much direction in life, awakes in the snows of the True North beyond the Wall in the year 295 After Conquest. Equipped with a power she barely understands, the Celestial Forge and the endless potential it represents, she struggles to find her own path on the foreign world of Planetos. Will she be wrapped up in the schemes of the great players? Can the best of intentions truly bear out good results, or are they a mere hindrance to true power?
5. Taylor on the Edge of Forever (SB) -  A Worm AU/Star Trek AU where Taylor Hebert has alt powers related to having been in the Star Trek future before being returned to her teenage self in Brockton Bay.
Bonus: Coin and Conformity (SB / AO3) - A man wakes up one day to find that he isn't in his apartment, isn't in his own body, and isn't even on Earth anymore. The language, the geography, the culture, the stars, and even the technology level are all different. Even worse, in this backwards medieval society he had found himself in, he woke up in the body of a woman. A woman who had just given birth to her first child, a son.

Anything Sapphic and/or emotionally complex preferably on the longer side
What fandoms? Just 'sapphic'?
Let me see what I got.
I mean, you do kinda just gotta go looking yourself, but all that said:
https://forums.sufficientvelocity.com/threads/cerulean-stars-an-asari-security-officer-in-commander-siskos-court.128885/
https://forums.sufficientvelocity.com/threads/darkened-stars-the-other-side-of-the-mirror.132861/
(The above fics are not just sapphic - the MC does have attraction to some men, but so far has only pursued relationships with women - and the sapphicness isn't a major focus, but it's there)
https://forums.sufficientvelocity.com/threads/demon-queened.103149/
(It's gay, its fluffy, it's fantasy, it's good.)
https://forums.sufficientvelocity.com/threads/nightshift-avengers-cyberpunk-2077.126406/
(This author can be controversial for some of their more... out there smutfics, but this one's just a fun Cyberpunk 2077 fic centering on a team of OCs doing their own thing in Night City)
https://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/bones-in-the-dark.1188914/
(I have no reason to believe this one is or will be sapphic, the female mc hasn't really expressed any attraction at all, but it's just damn good, so I'm gonna rec it as that.)
https://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/her-golemancer-girlfriend-%E3%80%90progression-fantasy-litrpg-lite-slice-of-life-lite-%E3%80%91.958499/
(haven't actually finished this one, but it's good and it's gay)
https://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/walk-worm-hellsing-abridged.975625/
(It hasn't been sapphic yet, but Amy Dallon - a raised by Emily Piggot of all people and she's much better adjusted than canon - is a major character and she is indeed gay. At the moment it's been hinting in the direction of Amy and Vicky maybe dating (amy having never been Vicky's sister)
https://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/her-barks-worse-than-her-bite-worm.878868/
(Amy Dallon MC, whether or not she'll get with the character she's being shipped with by most of the readers remains to be seen, author plays coy. Some of these stories are also or probably also on ao3, but SB/SV/QQ is where I read them)
https://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/wound-post-ward-amy-fanfic.1064420/
MC is Amy Dallon, so it's inherently sapphic
https://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/a-helping-hand-taylor-amy.962059/
(Amy/Taylor)
https://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/pan-dimensional-shenanigans.786808/
(Amy Dallon Centric)
https://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/emissary-a-deputy-recursive-crossover-worm-au-canon.532150/
(You'll want to read the earlier fics this is all recursive off of, but I'm too lazy to find the rest. Links should be in the OP of that. Not sure if this or the other stuff qualifies as sapphic technically, but it's good and 99% sure it's not anywhere else, so I'm linking.)
https://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/queen-of-blood-worm-castlevania-complete.363842/
https://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/worm-more-than-meets-the-eye-worm-transformers.317017/
https://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/hebert-heavy-industries-worm-tinker-alt-power-au.803146/
https://forums.spacebattles.com/threads/in-which-a-stray-cat-saves-the-world-worm.750202/
(also, for the record, there's good stuff out there that isn't actually Gay, you know? I like sapphic stuff as much as the next thirsty, touch-starved lesbian, but)
Also this link isn't on SB/SV/QQ but I did first encounter this author's stuff on QQ, and it's good so I'll link it. Gay and smutty as hell.
https://www.scribblehub.com/profile/101035/winterwhereof/
(Pretty almost much all the QQ stuff I'm gonna link below is smutty, most either significantly or entirely, though some are maybe just sometimes smutty)
https://forum.questionablequesting.com/threads/star-genesis-transformation.22226/
https://forum.questionablequesting.com/threads/until-the-elven-nation-attacked-original.27405/
https://forum.questionablequesting.com/threads/a-kiss-of-darkness-magical-girl-corruption-quest.18203/
https://forum.questionablequesting.com/threads/the-sword-saint-also-has-a-succubus-class-futa-mc-harem-litrpg.28987/
https://forum.questionablequesting.com/threads/i-became-the-servant-of-my-greatest-rival-a-yuri-fantasy-tale.25852/
https://forum.questionablequesting.com/threads/ive-got-your-back-a-living-armor-quest-fantasy-completed.22295/
https://forum.questionablequesting.com/threads/the-queen-mother-game-of-thrones.22442/
https://forum.questionablequesting.com/threads/in-the-house-of-bainbrook-your-proper-place-cyoa-nanowrimo-2023.24371/
https://forum.questionablequesting.com/threads/futa-succubus-fuckbuddies.23014/
https://forum.questionablequesting.com/threads/the-body-shop-worm.14027/
And this is just the stuff I had on watchlists for if they get updated. This doesn't include stuff that I found that was finished and read and never saved the link of. I promise dude, it's worth going looking yourself, but here's some places to start.
Specificity is still your friend.

Taylor Hebert LORA v1 - Dynamic Prompting
Now we're getting somewhere!
Downloaded the Dynamic Prompting Extension for A1111, so now I can turn this:
a __expressionB4__ (woman:Taylor Hebert<lora:TH1.lora:1>: 0.25) __wearing__ and __doing__ __seen__ , background of __Location_Worm__
into any of hundreds of different combinations, depending on the scripts I write for each __file__ .txt file!
This turns Ai generated image data from these:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(static, on a foggy background, character portraits, not particularly dynamic, and sometimes very "dead eyes", no movement, no sense of space, nor full body shots)
Into these:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I hope to release a scripting suite of a Wildcard Directory for Ai-Generated Datasets of OC Characters, at some point. First I gotta build my own, ha!
