Blurb: Redbull racing welcomes a new doctor to the medical team but she the boss daughter and has caught the eye of max verstappen…
So this is the first part of my story hopefully you like it! It will be a bit of a slow burn!
Part 2 posted!
Length: 1145 words
I brace my knee braced on top of the hard plastic and give an almighty pull of the zipper and yet it still doesn’t budge. The sheer amount of clothes I’ve crammed in are refusing to be contained. “Come on you can do this!” I mutter, trying desperately to psych myself up. With a final burst of brute strength, the zipper eeks closed. “Fuck yes!!” I shout triumphantly settling down on top of the conquered suitcase. I survey my surrounding and settle further into my new position, realising that this is the last thing I have to do. My apartment is now fully packed up. However, the tranquillity of this moment is quickly interrupted by the sweat on my forehead making it's presence known, I grimace as the hem of my shirt comes up wet after swiping it across - Brisbane humidity is not something I will miss. After being here for five years for my medical degree, I'm ready to leave. To do something new. The first stop of that is heading to Bahrain –for the first Grand Prix of the year. Just as I'm about to stand and start wrangling this stupid suitcase out the door of my flat I hear the ear-piercing ring of my phone. Muttering out a curse at the stupid tone and swipe to answer not bothering to look at the name – I already know who it is based on the fucking ringtone.
“Hi Dad, what are you calling for” I query
“Y/N/N,” he starts with, using the shortened version of my name, “I can’t wait to see you again only a few more hours till you are in Bahrain with me! The start of many races together. I was just calling to check that you’re all sorted for the plane – it will be on the tarmac waiting for y-”
I do a double take at that comment and “Wait what! I've already booked my flight you didn’t need to send the plane down – I’ve told you it will make people look at me differently if they see me coming in on the company plane – they will think I only got the position because of you!” I screech, running my hand through my hair, this however, does nothing to sooth my frustration as my fingers get tangles in my mess of curls. Whilst my battle rages with my curls dad continues unperturbed, “Darling, you know that’s not true I had nothing to do with the selection process for Dr Trome.” I finally freed I continue exasperated “I know that dad, but other people don’t! it already hard enough people think I get handouts for being a girl and now people will say I only got it cause I'm RedBull’s Team principles daughter”
My father, Christian Horner sighs “I'm sorry darling, I just wanted to make your day easier – will you at least take the car from Bahrain airport to the track?”
I mull my options over – an Uber on Grand Prix week will cost me and arm and a leg, I know shit about Bahrain public transport and nor do I particularly want to wrangle my luggage around on it. Knowing my options are slim to none I agree to the car picking me up. Pleased with my answer my father finishes the call with a rushed I love you. `

I look down at my phone and my heart drops “FUCK” I scream. Frantically I grab everything do a curtesy sweep of my flat – it was really nothing to write home about – despite my very wealthy parents I am determined to make my own way – I want my successes to be mine, that everything I have earned in life is due to my own hard work not my last name, not my parents’ money but my skill. Jumping into a Taxi without a second to spare if I want to make my flight on time, I tell the driver to head to the terminal. An excruciating  25-minute drive later I arrive. With barely enough time to breath, I make it in time to check in. Finally, I have a chance to breath once seated on the plane – I'm always on edge in airports, the sheer mass if people, the lack of control it all sets me on edge. Checking my emails for the details of my position with Dr Trome.

Dear Y/N,

I hope you are traveling safe and once again congratulations on securing the position
Now that you are on your way, I just want to reaffirm what the expectation and the duties that this position involves –  you are my one of back up team doctors you will be mainly responsible for the wellbeing of your assigned driver – this has yet to be determined but you will be informed once you have arrived in Bahrain.
This includes a whole multitude of aspects but as this is merely an internship with RedBull Racing’s Medical team you will NOT be responsible for making decision merely informing me of your proposed medical plan and talk through the rational with me, we will then decide the course of treatment – this experience is meant to challenge you showing you what life as a team doctor is like – the taxing pace of travel, athletes in their peak physical health and give your hands on training.
When you land at 4pm please come straight to conference room 140E for the run-down of operations.
Once again Congratulations and welcome to RedBull Racing

Kind Regards,
Dr Trome
MD, BSc

Unable to contain my excitement a wide, slow smile spreads across my face. This is it. The start of a dream. Heading into medical school I was unsure of where I wanted to end up hospital rotations left me feeling drained and unfulfilled – I yearned for travel and excitement. My view of hospitals was probably warped due to the pandemic, but I was desperate not to suffer through that now. When the medical faculty at university had posted about an internship at RedBull racing I just couldn’t pass up, I dared not speak a word to my family about this – I knew my father would inject himself into the situation despite my protests and the obvious ethical violations. So, I quietly applied, not telling anyone and then 3 months ago after the whole interview process was complete, I got the internship. And that’s why I now find myself seated on a plane headed for Bahrain. I look out the window imagine the exciting possibilities that await me when this plane lands

Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, the current time in Brisbane is 6pm the flight time to Bahrain is approximately 18hours and 45 minutes so settle back, get comfortable and enjoy your flight. We thank you for flying with us.

I settle into my seat and get ready for the start of my new life.

sunkissed - lee felix x reader
Tumblr media
requested by @hehehwh
“can you make a story with how the reader and the another members of stray kids go to the beach, but the reader is afraid of jellyfishes so felix helps them get over their phobia? <3 (after that they spend a romantic time on the beach)”
writers note: so this is my first longer(ish) form fic, i’m a little nervous about it because it’s a pretty specific request so i hope i do it justice. you didn’t specify reader’s pronouns/body so we’ll go with gender neutral. idk fuck man reader is just whipped as shit for felix and he’s just a sweet sweet baby. reader has never seen the ocean up close before for sake of the plot. any feedback is appreciated!
pairing ; felix lee x gn!reader
wc ; 2.0k
content warning: angst if you squint? reader has a panic attack kinda, mostly just fluff. reader is afraid of jellyfish, established but new relationship with felix, nicknames (love, bunny, etc.)
~~~~~~~~~~
felix was absolutely elated, he’d been begging you and the boys for ages to try to get you guys to visit australia with him. chan was always on board, enthusiastically insisting to the rest that it would be fun, but the rest of the men would always groan and gripe about the various typical complaints about australia.
“i still don’t know how you convinced us to come yongbok-ah,” seungmin chimed up with a whine as the nine of you padded your way through the brisbane airport. this earned a jovial ‘tsk’ from the sunshine maknae.
“you guys promised last year for my birthday we could go, minnie! plus i was finally able to convince (y/n) to come too,” felix said as he hooked an arm around your shoulders to pull you closer into his side.
he always loved to make sure you were as close to him as possible. usually, in the form of keeping a hand on you in some comfortable resting place on your body. often this would be your shoulder, your lower back, the dip of your waist, or his favorite, your thigh. he did these little touches so often you weren’t entirely sure if he was doing it for your own comfort or his.
you patiently listened to the boys’ chaotic talking as you followed along through the airport towards the taxi area to be taken to the airbnb that chan had rented for the week.
“hey (y/n) you’re going to love the beach, its always so fun when we go. i haven’t gone to these beaches since i was young!” chan turned back towards you from the front of the group to say.
this was a topic all the boys seemed to fixate on. this made sense, as they didn’t often get a chance to swim or some hadn’t even experienced the beach before. felix especially seemed thrilled about the beaches. you didn’t quite understand the hype, until the early the next afternoon the car you and felix had ridden in with minho, jisung and hyunjin had finally gotten close enough to the beach.
oh… you weren’t expecting this kind of beach…
you felt so stupid for not even remembering that ocean beaches existed. you had never seen them before, and you didnt ever plan to. the very thought of the ocean and all the nasty critters it contained terrified you to your very core. sharks, sting rays, but one invertebrate creature seemed to bring a different type of terror to you. jellyfish. you weren’t entirely sure why jellyfish seemed to rock you entirely to your core, but for some reason they just did.
“bokie does the air conditioning go any lower?” you heard a whine from the back seat.
“hyunjinnie i’ve told you it’s as low as it goes. when you get in the water it will be so much better,” felix replied softly, his soft baritoned voice soothing you. only slightly, though.
you were too afraid to admit your uncommon fear to felix, let alone admit it in front of all of his friends and band members. you elected to try to just tough it out. felix seemed to notice your discomfort, and while not understanding why he reached over to gently thumb at your thigh from across the center console of the vehicle. felix kept his eyes trained ahead as he tried to park the car.
“bokie! hyung-minho keeps trying to touch my butt how much longer-“ jisung started to complain.
“children, all of you,” felix tutted with a chuckle, finally clicking the car into park.
their humorous distraction quickly stops, reminding you of your racing heart as you peer out at the beach warily. the three boys in the back seat spill out of the car, rushing to find the other four in the other car, leaving you and felix to grab the beach supplies out of the back.
“love, are you alright..?” felix asked. he spoke so softly, he was always so soft and sweet with you. you looked down with embarrassment as you felt your mouth go dry, not quite finding the words to explain your situation.
“i uh.. l-lixie ive.. n-never been to an ocean before.. i d-didnt realize, i don’t know why-“ you stammered out, looking back up at the taller blonde.
felix’ dyed blonde hair framed his face so beautifully, the afternoon sun making it so shiny. he truly looked like an angel to grace this planet from above, with his almost glittery freckles and warm chocolatey brown eyes. his eyes were furrowed so cutely as he cocked his head and leaned against the back of the vehicle, listening patiently to your attempts to explain.
“i d-don’t like… th-the jellyfish...” you finally croaked out in defeat, looking down as you rubbed your arm with embarrassment.
“aww… i’m sorry bunny, i didnt know..” felix said with genuine apology. god, he was an angel even in the way he acted.
“of course you didn’t lix, i n-never told you. its just not really something that comes up in conversation,” you chuckle dryly, trying to lighten up a little. this didn’t stop your nervous peering out at the shoreline.
“we can set up further back, no jellyfish will get us there,” felix offered sweetly, looking inquisitively out at the shoreline as well.
“no baby i don’t want to make the others stay further back, look at them they look so excited-“ you began to say, and almost as if on cue they seven other men ran off in the direction of the rich aqua waters. with a casual gesture you add, “case in point.”
“i can stand by you the entire time- they’re hardly ever in the water but you don’t have to get in the water if you don’t want to,” felix suggested. after thinking for a moment, you give him a hesitant nod.
with wary steps, you help carry some of the beach stuff with felix.
“hey, hey we can set up here. its not that far back, they don’t even need to know why,” felix says softly, setting down the bag and laying out some of the towels. he wandered his way back to you arms snuggly finding their way around your waist as he tugged you close and cradled you against his firm, toned form.
“it’s alright… take a deep breath… tell me what you’re feeling.. how does the sand feel? good right? and the sun?” felix asked softly, his breath tickling your ear as he did so. you sighed and did as he suggested, knowing he was simply trying to ground and distract you from your anxieties and fears.
well.. yeah, the sand did feel nice. soft, warm, much different from the coarse sands of the riverbanks and lakes that you were more familiar with. the breeze blew softly through your hair, cooling the small droplets of sweat that had begun to collect at the nape of your neck. you felt warm, safe. you couldn’t tell if it was the warm glow of the early spring australian sun, or the warmth of your sweet boyfriend holding you close.
“feels nice…” you mumbled softly against his shoulder. your hand creeped all the way down his toned arm and slotted into his own hand.
“wanna try at least walking down the beach before the boys start shouting for me?” felix asked softly, pulling back only a little to brush some hair out of your face and kiss your forehead lovingly.
“i can try on my own lix, thank you tho. go swim with the rest ill see you guys over here when you decide to take a break,” you say with a smile and reciprocating his kiss with pressing your own to his jawline. felix pecked your lips softly before rubbing your back for a brief moment and making his way to the rest who were certainly about to tease him for being such a sappy boy.
as much as they griped about felix having a new partner, they didn’t ultimately mind. it meant everything to them to see their previous sunshine yongbok so happy.
you’d slowly made your way towards them as well, cautiously walking down the shoreline where they’d been swimming. for the first ten or so minutes, it actually felt nice. the sun felt so nice and warm, admittedly it was nice to be somewhere where you could be out in nature despite your nerves. you subconsciously wondered if the sun would possibly intensify felix’ freckles. as if he couldn’t already get more attractive.
you look over to see the boys all enjoying the water and smile. changbin is wrestling minho down into the water, causing so much splashing. chan kept himself afloat as he watched amusedly. seungmin and jeongin were busy swimming with just their heads afloat, weaving between the other boys and chasing each other. jisung had stayed back a little more, just cheering on the wrestling match that was happening. hyunjin stayed a little more shallow as well, citing not wanting to get his hair wet as felix just pounced on chan to disturb his peace.
it felt like you might have been worrying for nothing. until you had only gotten a few meters further down the shore and the worrying wasn’t worrying for nothing. you stopped dead in your tracks as you noticed a jiggly, translucent blob in front of your feet. you scrambled back in panic, terrified you’d step on a tentacle as you tripped and fell back.
noticing the commotion of you falling over, chan speaks up, “hey felix is (y/n) alright?”
turning his head to look over at the shore, felix’ eyes widened slightly.
“hey give me a second-“ felix said with a slight rush, standing up and wading through the clear waters to make his way back to shore.
“(y/n)? bunny are you okay?” felix calls out to you as he approaches. he quickly crouches down, helping to sit you up. what he didn’t expect was for you to practically throw yourself at him, hugging him tightly as you buried your face in his salty, wet swim shirt. “bunny?”
you can’t even reply as your hyperventilate, your eyes stinging as tears began to prick at the corners of your eyes. he pulled your heaving body up flush against his chest as he shushed you softly. he gave a soft hum in an attempt to soothe you, helping to slowly stand you up.
“i don’t think we can leave yet but we can go lay down by the towels yeah..? far away from all the water nasties..” felix offers to you. after a few moments, you nod slowly. your face was hot with embarrassment as you look down, keeping your face hidden with one hand and holding onto felix’ hand with the other. felix simply caressed the side of your face as the two of you walked back to the towels you’d laid out.
“i’m sorry baby i-“ you begin, only to be cut off with a quick, chaste kiss and a hand through your hair.
“don’t be. i forgot to mention sometimes they wash up on the water here… its okay, we can relax here.” felix smiled as he laid himself down on his side on his towel. the ends of his hair that had gotten wet now clung to the sides of his face and forehead so prettily, providing a decent distraction as you shakily laid down yourself.
“i promise next time we don’t have to come, they can go on their own. you can stay back here too next time if you still want to come,” felix tried to list off ideas.
now it was your turn to shush him and cut him off, “don’t worry lixie, we’ll figure it out. just let me lay here for a bit..”
felix smiled as he cradled your face in his hand. the pad of his thumb dragged across your cheek gently, feeling the heat of your now sun-kissed skin.
“shoulda put sunscreen on,” felix teases as he gives a soft kiss to your forehead.
you didn’t care about the sun, however. you were much more focused on a different sun. your sweet, sunshine lixie.
Um 3 Uhr war für mich die Nacht vorbei. Jetlag lässt grüßen 🫠🫡
Nach dem Frühstück haben wir unsere Daten an peterpans weitergegeben um das Greyhound Bus Ticket für die Ostküste zu buchen und haben uns für unseren Flug morgen nach Brisbane eingecheckt. ✈️🌏
Als alles Organisatorische erst mal erledigt war, ging es wieder in die Stadt - bei strahlendem Sonnenschein und 30 Grad. ☀️😎#endlichSommer
Heute haben wir den Queen Victoria Market besucht. Ein riesiger Markt, wo man so ziemlich alles bekommt. Von Klamotten über Obst, Gemüse, Fisch, Fleisch und vieles mehr. Hier war so ziemlich für Jeden was dabei. Wir haben uns leckeres Obst und American Doughnut gekauft - das hat unglaublich gut geschmeckt. Für Mel und mich gab es noch einen neuen Hut und für jeden von uns ein Australia T-Shirt als Erinnerung. 😍
Am späten Nachmittag haben wir ein Taxi genommen und sind nach St. Kilda gefahren. Ein Stadtteil direkt am Meer, wo man abends Pinguine sehen soll. 🐧 Hatte ein bisschen California Vibes.
Voller Vorfreude waren wir noch am Strand, haben unsere Füße im Wasser abgekühlt und sind essen gegangen. Zur Dämmerung sind wir zum Pier gelaufen. Zu unserer Enttäuschung war das Ende wegen Baumaßnahmen gesperrt - Wiedereröffnung im frühen 2024. Wie schade, wir hätten die kleinen Kerlchen gerne mal in echt gesehen.
Zurück im Hotel ging es direkt wieder schlafen. Es war schon wieder nach 23:00 Uhr. 😴
FIJI ~ THE RETURN
(Yasawa islands & the Coral Coast)
🎶 “One the road again” since the dreaded global pandemic. I left Canada at the end of 2016, now it’s 2023 and may the travels continue. Currently living in Brisbane Australia with my partner in crime. Zach and I travelled 5 hours to Fiji, only to be met by the warm weather and musical greetings.
Nadi: Hustling to find a taxi we made it to smugglers accomodation. Just as I remembered 6 years ago, smugglers is somewhere to crash for a night and nothing much has changed. The following morning we hopped on a bus and headed through Nadi to Port Denarau where we met our boat, the south sea island cruiser. Aboard the vessel we road the roof top, 4.5 hours all the way up the Yasawa islands to the famous Blue Lagoon Resort.
Blue Lagoon: White sandy beaches fringed in coconut palms, cobalt blue and turquoise coloured ocean. Blue lagoon is home to an endless natural beauty and the loveliest of islanders. Located near the end of the Yasawa chain of islands. Fun Fact: Blue Lagoon is known and named after the 1980s film, “Blue lagoon” (starring Brooke Sheilds). We spent our time here free diving the “Sawai-Lo” caves on the neighbouring island. Snorkelling with turtles, sea life and a vast display of ancient colourful corals. After a scenic hike accompanied by the village dog we named, “Nipples” our evenings were plentiful. Kava rituals, an endless buffet, traditional song and dance that even we were sure to partake in. Blue lagoon was one to remember.
Manta Ray: Onto the next one! After the Lagoon we ventured down to Manta Ray Island, an island I had once visited 6 years prior. Friendly and laid-back, this island will forever leave its mark in my mind. Scenic views of neighbouring islands and known for its flocks of majestic manta rays that soar through the current like birds in the air. Often the locals will sound a conch-shell and as if it were a Black Friday sale, everyone then races like a group of warriors to the boats. Prepared to battle the current in hopes of seeing these majestic Mantas. We swam like hell in attempt to see them but ended up being the 2 of few who were unsuccessful. We enjoyed a lovely meal with an evening in our seaside villa just steps from the ocean, the waves lulling us to sleep. The following morning we watched the sunrise and enjoyed a beach stroll, playing with hermit crabs along the shoreline. We were met with slight disappointment as the island pump had broken, running us out of clean water. Unfortunate and uncommon but not the end of the world, we had to quickly re-arranged accomodation to another island further south.
Naqalia: Travelling from Manta Ray we headed down the Yasawa to a small island called, Naqalia. With the change in accomodation we managed to find a small home stay with a local family on the island. Unique and rustic, the family ran a lodge that was completely hand made and everyone played a part in accomodating us. With little cost Zach and I had a roof over our heads and met handful of fellow travellers, open to experiencing Fiji locals like few tourists ever get the privilege of having. The family cooked a meal that I strongly attest was the best food we had the entire trip. However Zach wasn’t feeling great so the following day he stayed back while I did something I’ve never done before. The teenage boys from the Fijian family of Naqalia had driven an older couple and myself kilometres from land to a large reef in the open ocean. After getting past some large waves we jumped in the centre of the reef where we snorkelled above large trumpet fish and schools of white tip reef sharks. The young boys who brought us even hand fed the sharks right in front of us which seemed dangerous yet thrilling.
Barefoot Kuata: After a short stay at Naqalia lodge we were brought over by a small boat to Barefoot Kuata. Over the shallow beach and endless colourful reef, tucked away in the towering palm trees is a hidden gem. Barefoot Kuata resort is a luxurious stay where Zach and I had an amazing boho-beach inspired accomodation with an outdoor shower and bathtub. After exploring the cave and sunset lookouts with endless views. We kicked back with great Buffett dinner and night snorkel. The following morning we both went diving for the first time in 3.5 years. Unlike any other dive this particular one was with 3 meter long bull sharks. Known for being an aggressive breed of shark species, we still did it. Watching 10+ of these fascinating animals swarm in a feeding frenzy as one of the locals fed them at a depth of 22 meters. Barefoot was a memorable stay and a place I’d love to visit again.
South Sea Island: Six years ago I had a very memorable, laid back stay on south sea island. Taking only minutes to walk the perimeter of this island, and accomodating no more than a handful of people. I had connected with a group of travellers I still occasionally keep in touch with. However it seemed this island had a subtle facelift and is now a popular destination for other travellers looking to spend the day from neighbouring islands. Still very enjoyable, we slept in a small cabin steps from the sea. Watching the sunset change, as it went from a small amber glow to filling the sky with touches of magenta and cotton candy pink. After saying goodbye to the Yasawa islands and the few fellow people we met along the way we carried on to the mainland.
The Road Trip: Embracing spontaneity, we met a local worker on south sea island who agreed to driving us 2.5 hours for $200. Even though it was very much out of his way, it was the best way to educate ourselves. Before starting the road trip into the night, we first stopped by his village where we had the privilege of meeting some of his family and local animals. Zach, the driver and I spent this time indulging and comparing cultures and ethnicities before picking up a fourth. We pulled into a village to pick up the drivers cousin and the 4 of us carried along driving. Like the beginning of a bad joke, an Australian, Canadian and two Fijian men drove across mainland Fiji comparing stories and sharing riddles.
Pacific Harbour: After the long and winding roads, we said goodbye to our fellow Fijians. Ending up at our final destination…The Pearl Resort. Located in Pacific Harbour, The Pearl is a beautifully landscaped resort with all the comforts of home. This did not end the adventurers in us! We managed to squeeze 2 more dives in with a local company. These exploration dives were stunning! An array of sea life, lion fish, sharks, trumpet fish, nudibranch and soft corals. My particular favourite part was the ship wreck at a depth of 23 meters with large over hanging fan corals cascading off the sides of this rusty, old vessel.
After our final experience scuba diving we headed back to The Pearl. This location is a great way to stop and rest before heading back to the hardships of reality. Here we lived the highlife, indulging in food, spa treatments and poolside cocktails. Amazingly, to my surprise I even bumped into one of my south sea “fellow travellers” from 6 years ago. However this time she came with family too, not the lonely traveller who I once met a long time ago. So happy for her! (Laura)
First time overseas since the global pandemic, first time travelling with Zach, second time in Fiji and it’s just as wondrous as I recall. Home to 333 islands, 120 of those islands inhabiting the loveliest of local people. With its main source of economy being tourism you can understand why Fiji is an oasis for those wanting an escape. A tropical paradise scattered amongst the Pacific Ocean, Fiji will always hold special unforgettable memories.
