First of all:what is Butoh?In a short explanation, this is a #PerformaticDance created by #TatsumiHijikata .He has his cultural background in the north of Japan , where an ancient burial ritual _ #AnkokuButoh , "dance of utter darkness" _ was pivotal for him to innitiate this new cultural system (yes, according to the #NewDance researcher @leticiasekito , Butoh is not only a simple choreography exploration using ancient japanese katas/shapes & techniques.It became a new approache to the japanese culture joining the experience that Sansei Hijikata had with western #moderndance, classical japanese #embodied arts like #NohTheater and #Kabuki , the ritual i quoted above and his own backstore life history to inspire his inner creative process). Butoh (舞踏, Butō) is a form of Japanese dance theatre that encompasses a diverse range of activities, techniques and motivations for dance, performance, or movement. Following World War II, butoh arose in 1959 through collaborations between its two key founders Tatsumi Hijikata and Kazuo Ohno. Butoh is an attempt to uncover the dance that already exists, it must emerge from within, and not be imposed from without.
