thank you everyone for the tags (@reyesstrand @rmd-writes @three-drink-amy @statueinthestone @lemonlyman-dotcom and if there was someone else i'm so sorry i went back through my mentions and bamboozled myself). i wasn't gonna do this, and then i saw the potential to actually get myself back in the zone for unreleased stuff and rolled with it, so thank you!

(1) ALTA (UNRELEASED)

“You know we’re going to a fundraiser, right?” Carlos asks, eyeing off the cinnamon doughnut and large coffee in his father’s hand as Gabriel opens the car door and settles into the passenger seat.

His Carlos. A marshmallow.

Four-thirty in the morning is a peaceful time, Carlos thinks as he blinks up at the ceiling and watches the dust motes settle. 

Grief has made nothing in their lives feel completely right, but somehow, everything is still okay.

(3) all is near and can't be touched

It feels like a dream. A really bad one, actually. A nightmare, to be more specific. A very realistic, very vivid vision that clings to TK like a second skin.

Carlos hums softly and hugs him tighter. “Exactly,” he says. “For as long as we both shall live.”

“You got a key?” TK asks, trailing Carlos as he walks briskly out of the elevator and towards the loft.

TK licks his lips. "Maybe," he concedes, thinking of the sounds he can draw out of Carlos and the way they’ll echo off the shower tiles. "But I'm also right."

Bradley is twenty minutes late and he’s kind of stressed about it.

Jake sighs. “Guess not,” he replies, a little pleased sound echoing from the back of his throat as Bradley rests their foreheads together. “But that’s your reward for making an honest man out of me.”

The fact that TK and Carlos are always casually touching each other is adorable and I will not be taking any disagreements to this point.

“Being in love with you isn’t just a feeling, baby,” Carlos murmurs. “Being in love is an action, and it’s a choice. I choose to love you, in sickness and in health, no matter what.”

“That makes it sound hard,” TK breathes, sinking into the feeling of Carlos’ fingertips on his scalp, as if they’re touching his heart.

Carlos shakes his head, just slightly. “I think that’s what makes love beautiful,” he says. “Without choice, love doesn’t bind us. It’s an illusion; it’s not real.”

Carlos had been terrified of what their future might hold, of the prospect of a life without TK even though that’s a risk he faces every day, given their professions. Despite his fear, there was never any doubt in his mind that he would stand by TK, that he would love TK for every single day of his life, no matter what that looked like or how difficult it might get. Not that loving TK would ever be difficult; loving TK is the easiest thing in the world to him. Loving TK is like breathing: wholly and completely necessary, written into the marrow of his bones.

TK, babes, I can assure you Carlos isn’t going anywhere.

TWP word of the day prompt: Touch

Okay, look. I’m a little behind posting, but this is for day two, and I have days three and four done, they’re longer so they’re in my beta’s inbox. (Time zones, you know?) anyway, just a little post 4x04 comfort. Unbeta’d.

TK startles as Carlos shoots up in bed and makes a terrified noise, breathing hard. TK gives him a moment to look around and let his sleep-addled brain process his surroundings before reaching for him, slowly.

“It’s okay,” TK assures him. “You’re okay.”

He touches Carlos gently, minding his wounds, and helps ease him back onto the bed.

“I’m sorry,” Carlos mutters. Carlos’ lip quivers and he clutches TK’s shirt tightly in his hand, afraid to let go.

A nurse appears in the doorway and TK shakes his head and gestures that they’re alright.

Carlos throws the covers back and tries to climb out of the bed, hissing at the pain that shoots through his fatigued body. “Take me home? Please. I can’t-”

“No, Carlos, you gotta stay tonight,” TK says. Carlos drops back into bed, defeated. TK doesn’t know what else to do, so he climbs into bed with him, placing his hand over Carlos’ chest; his heart still beating wildly. “Breathe with me.”

“Hmmmm?”

“Nice and slow,” TK says. “In…two…three…four… hold. And out…two…three…four…” Carlos nods and tries to match his breathing to TK’s. “Good,” TK says again. “Let’s go again. In… two….”

It takes a few minutes for Carlos’ panic to subside and for him to settle against TK. He’s not sure if Carlos will be able to fall asleep again, but TK shifts and curls himself protectively around Carlos, willing to stay awake while Carlos sleeps, if that’s what it will take for him to relax enough to doze off.

And that’s how the rest of the 126 finds them the next morning, Carlos sleeping peacefully in his fiancé’s arms.

TK had always been a very touchy-feely person. Carlos had noticed it from the very start of their blossoming relationship ― from the lingering touches after sharing more than just a few kisses on Carlos’s couch to TK resting his head on Carlos’s shoulder while they actually chill on their night off.

But, after the kidnapping, it amplifies tenfold. It’s not just that TK seeks that physical contact; is that he revels in it more than he already did. TK reaches out to touch Carlos’s arm whenever they cross paths during a call; he allows one finger to trace Carlos’s biceps after sex. Carlos loves TK’s newly-discovered clingy side, but it also worries him.

“Not that I’m complaining,” he begins one night while he’s trying to cook dinner with TK becoming a koala draped over his back. “But I can’t really check on the red snapper if you keep this up.”

“This?” TK asks innocently, not even relenting for one second. “Don’t know what you mean, Carlos.”

Carlos turns around in the narrow space TK’s left for him, and immediately his fiancé places one hand over Carlos’s heart. And it’s then, when Carlos can feel his heartbeat in sync with TK’s, that he finally understands.

TK’s making sure that Carlos is still alive, that he’s still breathing.

“I’m here,” he mutters, dropping the tweezers he’s holding and wrapping his arms around TK. “I’m not going anywhere.”

“You almost did,” TK mutters. “I don’t know how you survived all those times I was in a hospital bed.”

“I knew you’d fight to come back to me,” Carlos tells him. “Just as you should know I’ll always fight the hardest to come back home. I wasn’t lying, TK. My life is yours.”

“And mine is yours,” TK promises.

They remain silent for a few seconds, swaying in place, holding each other, until the oven beeps. Carlos drops a kiss on TK’s crown.

“Gotta check on the fish,” he whispers. “I love you. I’m here.”

“I love you too,” TK reciprocates.

He never lets go of Carlos’s hand, and Carlos does the only thing he can think of.

He holds on to TK’s hand.

I won't deny that the episode was amazing. I loved it, and there were so many great lines, and Rafa and Ronen's acting was PHENOMENAL, but I can't help but feel that something was missing, especially after Carlos woke up.

At first I wasn't sure what to make of the choice to have Carlos seem so blasé about TK saying he stayed up, saying he had bad news or about the choice of having Carlos be across the room while they talked. It's unlike what we've seen of them before where closeness and touch for comfort was pretty immediate.

What I do think this fits with is the very ease and humor Carlos takes TK trying to back out of the wedding. The 'silly you for thinking that I'd back out? Have you met me? I'm marrying coma boy.' The 'please don't panic yet, please don't spiral, I'll make you laugh if it's the last thing I do' of it all. But also the serious tone and the assuredness saying "I'm not running. I'm right here."
