These fellas were originally conceived as a fakemon design contest entry (for the Mazah Fakemon region, hence the borrowed dex format), but even though I didn’t win, I still really love these designs! It’s extremely basic, but I genuinely adore just regular animal-like normal type pokemon, and brown is unironically one of my favorite colors (ALSO I LIKE GREEN SHINIES! THERE, I SAID IT), so these designs were 100% catered to my exact tastes. And who doesn’t like a tapir? Nobody, that’s who.

Taprei (Tapir + prey)

The Tapir Pokémon

Due to their fatty bodies and lack of offensive strength, Taprei are the primary source of food for nearly every predator in the rainforest, including Mazian Persian, Suchobile, Lupacabra, and even human beings.  Because of this, Taprei have evolved a knack for staying hidden, and their elusive nature once led many scientists to believe that they had gone extinct in the wild.

Paropilli (Paraceratherium + tepoztopilli)

The Justice Pokémon

No longer fearing predation, Paropilli develops a strong sense of justice on behalf of smaller, weaker Pokémon.  A single Paropilli will fight to the death in order to protect other Pokémon from predators, and it is not uncommon to see Paropilli among packs of Taprei; apparently training them to evolve.  This display of forethought and empathy is an obvious testament to this Pokémon’s intelligence, though some argue that Paropilli’s coddling of the young and weak disrupts the balance of nature, and makes it more difficult for predatory Pokémon to find food.

My extremely subjective take on every Pokémon and if it's cute or not. (While I do have a bachelor's degree in design, like all matters of taste, in the end "cuteness is in the eye of the beholder.") I will try to justify my decision based on design elements.

#96. Drowzee

Your tricks won't work on me Drowzee, you can't mind trick me into changing my verdict.

Verdict: Not cute

I don't know if you dear reader have ever seen a tapir which is the animal this Pokémon is based on. It does have this small trunk-like nose. In Japanese myth, the Baku which is the word for tapir is believed to eat dreams. I know as a kid, when I first saw this Pokémon I had no idea of the lore behind it. I just new it was one of the earliest psychic type Pokémon you could get in Red and Blue and psychic types were strong.

I was wondering why this Pokémon isn't more popular. In today's burnt out world, I'd think a Pokemon that puts people to sleep would have some more fans. However, I believe that Jigglypuff's gimmick of putting everything to sleep is more well known and Jigglypuff is much cuter.

Drowzee has too much mental alacrity to be as loved as the "dopey" Pokémon like Psyduck and Slowpoke. Although Drowzee's design is similar to other "dopey"s.

So…I got carried away and did the first half of giving the female protagonist Digimon. So here ya go. What if the Pokémon female protags had Digimon part 1?

I ended up going with Ceresmon because it’s a big bulky plant monster like Venasaur

Uhh…the mission statement was to originally give her a Plesiosaur but my brain decided Gammamon was cooler so that’s what happened.

I mean there isn’t a lot of fire birds so I didn’t have much choices😅

I almost gave her Shoutmon as a reference to how Empeleon is a ruler but I thought Frosvelgrmon was more elegant and cool.

Okay not quite a pig but instead a tapir. Close enough 😅. In my defense the choices for pig Digimon besides Boarmon (which isn’t a pig but whatever ) are bad.

Drowzee and Hypno are a bit too simple for their concept

Tapirs are some of the best animals on earth because they're the kind of animal that if you've never seen one, you assume people are just making s*** up.

Drowzee then combines that with the myth of the Baku, a dream-eating creature from Japanese mythology that might have been inspired by tapirs somewhere down the line.

Like a lot of gen 1 pokémon, Drowzee’s design is limited by the low amount of detail you can render in a 56x56 sprite, and so it's design is maybe a little too simple. All the detail is concentrated in the face, leaving the body just... some round shapes with a color boundary on it. Wish there was a bit more to it.

And it's the same story with Hypno, which seems to take after a proboscis monkey, maybe? All the detail is in the face, and the little pendulum, leaving the rest of it just... a generic body.

For how high concept it is, based on a chimeric folklore creature, it is a bit underdesigned, I think.

La boletera una musharna (contexto del Pokémon: Musharna es un Pokémon tipo psíquico introducido en la quinta generación. Es la evolución de Munna. En cuanto a su aspecto, al igual que su preevolución, Musharna está basado en un baku, un espíritu japonés con forma de tapir que se come los sueños. Tiene el rostro de color rosa y su cuerpo es lila. Subsiste en una posición fetal y siempre con los ojos cerrados.

El humo que emana del círculo rosa que se encuentra en su cabeza asemeja a un cordón umbilical, es conocido con el nombre de humo onírico. Una gran multitud de sueños de humanos y Pokémon se encuentran atrapados en este humo. Con el humo onírico crea formas con base a las cosas que aparecen en los sueños que ha consumido y almacenado. El color de su humo que despide, varía según el contenido de los sueños que haya engullido, por lo que si el humo es de una tonalidad negruzca, lo mejor será no acercársele, ya que puede hacer realidad las pesadillas. Aunque parece ser un Pokémon cuadrúpedo, en realidad es bípedo, esto se puede ver mejor en el anime. Sin embargo, siempre aparecerá flotando en el aire. Musharna siempre se encuentra soñando o adormecido, si se le despierta, se pondrá de muy mal humor, por lo que es recomendable, mejor dejarlo tranquilo.)

Pasamos a una escena, donde muchos rattatas tratan de atacar, a los pasajeros quienes están dormidos.

Rose lanza rayos y impractruenos, para después lanzar solo un rayo, con una puntería perfecta hacia un raticate, más grande que otros de su especie.

Pasamos ahora a Katherine, quien se le acabaron las ideas, le da igual a este punto matar a un rehen, y saca una pistola disparándo, al azar hasta que una de sus balas, sale volando y llega, al conductor del tren un swamperth, quien muere al instante, el tren choca y audino el Jack, intenta escapar herido.

Arrastrándose lentamente, hacia un prado lentamente y chorreando sangre, su carne puede verse a través de las heridas, le falta un ojo y finalmente BANG Jack el asesino, muere con disparo a distancia, de Katherine.

Audino/Jack: no no e e esto n no debía acabar Haci! Yo debí ser el ganador, como...cómo como una maldita puta! M me gano....mama...papa.... nos veremos en el infierno.

Katherine/lopunny: ugh que idiota.

Unos rayos color morado, aparecen en escena atrás de Katherine, es el general 6° del ejército de thiwilight city, este es un raichu diferente, es más pequeño pero tiene un color naranja, usualmente los raichus, tienen un color mandarina más claro no tan oscuro, este raichus se acerca riendo a Katherine.

General 6: JAJAJA DERROTASTE A MI SUB GENERAL 4° EH!!? no te preocupes, plebeya te daré una muerte rápida, por ahorrarme entrenar a ese debilucho.

Katherine: jejeje...no era un débil, admito que me dió problemas, pero.....era más fuerte que un audino, promedio.... usualmente su especie, son doctores ya que ayudan, bien en los centros médicos.

Raichu: este idiota no! El quería unirse al ejército, tenía pontencial pero lo desperdiciaba, siendo un estratega.

No pudo terminar, ya que mientras tenía la guardia baja Laura, le dió una pistola agua mojando a raichu.

Katherine: entonces muere, como un soldado honorable.

Katherine, aprovecha la oportunidad y le da un disparo, en el plexo solar atravesando a surge/raichu.

Katherine: es una bala especial, sirve para Pokémons tipo eléctrico, está hecha de metal especial, que evita su velocidad de la víctima.

surge/raichu: en otras palabras...voy a morir.... bueno almenos....esto no quedará, en el informe oficial, del gobierno....

Katherine: responde basura, quien es el rey a quien sirves.

Surge/raichu: e el...r rey... e es un g gallade.....el busca hacer, un trato con las fuerzas oscuras....y ser el soberano, supremo del mundo....

Katherine y compañía, estarían enterrando a los muertos dándoles una sepultura, adecuada a los caídos.

Gutiérrez/bisharp: la princesa elizabeth, es una delphox shiny... dicen que es tan poderosa, que el reino de Alexander, el nineteles de alola actual.

La nombró princesa y vuru/experta, en todo tipo de magia. Incluso Magia oscura o magia de hace miles de años, que solo una sacerdotiza de antaño, sabría usar es tan poderosa, que su sola presencia, significa respeto.

Ambos reyes Felipe y Alexander, decidieron casarlos, ya que después de su padre usted....es el gallade, más fuerte de todos.

Mauricio/gallade (pensando: si tan solo supiera, la verdad....ay Lucas..... cuanda falta, me haces hoy si ese día, hubiera interferido quizás estarías vivo.).

Aparece un flashback, de mauricio y un riolu entrenado, en el bosque mauricio es un ralts, y riolu le sonríe.

En la lejanía en un árbol, un Lucario fantasma aparece el árbol, simplemente soporta el peso etéreo.

Lucas/Lucario: ay amigo...uff cuando aprenderas, que ese día solo fui un idiota, que se arriesgo.... jejeje....no haz cambiado viejo amigo.

La carroza, sigue su camino y el fantasma de Lucas los sigue, a la distancia parece más concentrado en mauricio.

Mientras a lejanía se ve un castillo, inmenso rodeado de flores rojas carmesí como la sangre, mientras se hace un leve, zoom y se ve una delphox shiny, al lado de una Staraptor.

Elizabeth/delphox: Star, cuando falta para que llegue...el hijo de Felipe.?

Star/Staraptor: falta poco amiga, ojalá y no sea como su padre.

Elizabeth/delphox: con que no sea, un pervertido o peor un mocoso malcriado... como el principe Oswaldo.

Star/Staraptor: el impoleon raro.... con eww fetiche...por los pies?

Elizabeth/delphox: ese era Juan te acuerdas... Oswaldo.... era el...Dewott...que era machista y tenía, 14 años.

Star/Staraptor: ah sí el mocoso machista.

Ambas bajan por unas escaleras, muy finas elizabeth anda descalza, como siempre la mayoría de los Pokémons, no usan calzado y ella no es una excepción.

Star solo vuela, alrededor de elizabeth, ella es dama de compañía, y guardaespaldas personal.

The fact Baku is just commonly believed to not only be one of the most powerful devils but one of the ORIGINALS yet they look like THIS in the true form and cannonicly get distracted by their own tail in said form is probably the single greatest idea I've ever had, like there's no getting better then small chubby tapir who chases their tail like a dog who also is fully capable of just destroying the world if they wanted to

Imagine hearing about a world destroying devil who's literally been there since. Like. ALMOST FOREVER and they're a pokémon •□• love them they're so silly and cute ☆♡♡

Honestly, Hypno would work so well as a Psychic Type Pokémon Trainer/Gym Leader, but the only problem with that is there isn't a Psychic Type hippo Pokémon to be his ace Pokémon.

We have two hippo Pokémon, Hippopotas and Hippowdon, but they're Ground Types, and even if they can Terastallize into the Psychic Type( The new game mechanic for Scarlet and Violet for the people who don't know what that is) they can only learn two Psychic Type moves, Rest and Amnesia, both of which CAN NOT ATTACK THE OPPONENT!!!!!! And this is frustrating for me since I want to make him and the other E.L.o.M. members Pokémon Teams and I can't do Hypno team properly since there is no Psychic hippo Pokémon!!!

I guess Musharna could work as his ace since it kinda looks like a hippo, but it's based on tapirs( Of which have a long history with sleep and dreams) so it kinda doesn't work.

the giant clawed elephant is Tapir (Baku), which is also a Japanese spirit that eats people's dreams (this is what Drowzee and Musharna from Pokémon are based on). Coupled with the illusory city that Coco makes, and the boss OST admonishing the player "it's time to wake up now", it's a pretty thematic image. It actually gets MORE thematic in the sequel, because you find out that the 'time to wake up' wasn't merely referring to Neku and Beat, but #CocoWasRight (no spoilers!)

Oh snap, that's a ton of cool information, cheers! I didn't take nearly enough time to appreciate how sick that boss looked, especially since it was an original creation rather than a dissonance version of a prior noise. The design of it was incredible, even more so, knowing the context behind it.

And I'm holding my grudge against Coco a little while longer, but I am aware that we still didn't learn anything about her motivations or goals. While I love Joshua and Hanekoma, I'm keeping an open mind because I know this game is pretty darn good at giving characters shades of grey.

It's always the chance you take with new content and sequels, isn't it? You love something so much, of course you want to see more of it at the same calibre. But getting more risks seeing that content carried on into something lesser, and one by one the fanbase picks their designated "jumped the shark" moments. But I think it's always a chance worth taking so long as it's done for the right reasons.

AND was set up. Good set up. It didn't leave me on a sour note, as much as I love the original ending as it is. I'm waiting to see what it was setting up for before I make any rash judgements. I'm very willing to give it that chance.

Pokémon Inspired by Animals

When Pokémon launched as a franchise in 1996, quickly becoming a worldwide multimedia phenomenon, the Pokémon creators had their work cut out for them imagining a whole new world with new creatures that we had never seen before. Or had we? Believe it or not, most Pokémon creatures have real-life animal inspirations!

Caterpie and Eastern Tiger Swallowtail Caterpillar

Caterpie is a bug type Pokémon. It’s known for devouring leaves bigger than its body and releasing an intense odor from its orange antennas when battling another Pokémon. You can’t miss the similarities between Caterpie and the eastern tiger swallowtail caterpillar. Both creatures have a distinct green body with bright orange antennas.

The eastern tiger swallowtail is a butterfly native to eastern North America. Similar to Caterpie, the swallowtail caterpillar possesses something called an osmeterium, an orange fleshy organ that emits a foul smell to ward off enemies when threatened.  

Magikarp and Yelloweye Rockfish

Magikarp is a water Pokémon and a large fish with orange scales. Magikarp flops around while blinking its large bulging eyes with its mouth open.

Yelloweye rockfish are one of the biggest members of the genus Sebastes and are prized for their meat. Both the real fish and the Pokémon are orange in color and have long rigid head spines to protect them from predators. Yelloweyes also have bulging eyes and a gaping mouth like Magikarp.

Drowzee and Malayan Tapir

What about Drowzee, a hypnosis Pokémon with insomnia who senses dreams with its trunk-like nose? Drowzee has beady eyes and triangular brown ears.  

It can’t sense your dreams like Drowzee, but the Malayan tapir has many resemblances to the Pokémon. The tapir is a large mammal with a short trunk. It uses its snout to pick up things or as a snorkel when in water. Aside from both having a short snout, Drowzee seems to have been inspired by the tapir’s two-toned coloring.

Poliwag, Poliwhirl, and Poliwrath are all based on tadpoles. They each have a spiral on their stomach that resembles the intestines which are visible through a tadpole’s translucent stomach.

What are nokken and bakus?

Nøkken are very similar to kelpies. They're Scandinavian water spirits that take the form of v handsome naked men and play violins to lure women and children to drown.

Bakus are Japanese yökai that resemble tapirs. The name roughly translates to dream eater, theyre creatures that eat nightmares for children. The Pokémon Musharna and Drowsee are based off of these.

Okay, no one has asked for the Pokedex Entries for the fusions I did, so Imma just post ‘em anyway.

Mudkie, the Salamander Pokémon Water- Type Curious by nature, Mudkie often seeks out playmates with other Pokemon. If it's attacked, it sprays opponents with a torrent of mud and bubbles before making its escape.

Marshdier, the Overcoat Pokémon Water/Ground- Type Its skin is very sensitive to the sun. To compensate, it covers its body in a coat made of mud and bubbles that solidify over time, making them as durable as iron. It can be seen most often maintaining and polishing this armor by scratching it with rocks.

Swamninja, the Forewarn Pokémon Water/Steel- Type Swamninja are known for their speed and reflexes, swinging through trees and speeding through the water with ease. The metal filings in their wool scarves allow this Pokémon to sense the rising and falling of air pressure, which help it predict oncoming storms. When a storm is near, Swamninja will rub its scarf against its tail fin, creating a sound similar to that of a violin.

Cyndapig, the Tiny Tapir Pokémon Fire- Type Completely blind, Cyndapig spend their lives as solitary wanderers, occasionally bumping into various objects when they get lost. They use the heat of the sun in order to navigate, which causes them to become lost and confused when night falls.

Quilnite, the Wrecker Pokémon Fire- Type Quilnite often seek out opponents much stronger than it in order to spar and grow stronger, but it often uses dirty tactics when losing. In order to intimidate opponents, it ignites the flames on its rear, making Quilnite seem larger than it actually is.

Typhloboar, the Sumo Pokémon Fire/Dark- Type Often seen bashing its fists together in displays of territory protection, Typhloboar is always angry and looking for a fight. On occasion, its flaming mane can be the accidental cause of forest fires.

Pipquil, the Porcupine Pokémon Water/Fire- Type Pipquil are warm-blooded, yet live in the frigid north pole. To compensate, they frequently let loose bursts of small flames from their backs, keeping themselves and others warm all year around. However, these flames are known to melt icebergs, which causes Pipquil to drop into the frigid water and become prey for any nearby Beartic and Sealeo.

Prinlava, the Prince Pokémon Water/Fire- Type These Pokémon live in tight nit communities known as Trials, where they frequently hold competitions over leadership and loyalty. The Prinlava with the largest and most impressive flame plumage is considered the strongest, and will occasionally fight with the strongest member of other Trials. The Trial that wins often absorbs the loser Trial, allowing the community to grow.

Empophlosion, the King Pokémon Water/Fire- Type Sarcastic and often unsympathetic, Empophlosion battle for territory by clashing and attempting to break each other's crowns. The fire that erupts from their neck is a sign of age, with healthy flames being a bright beige, and weak, sick or dying Empophlosions only emitting plumes of dark smoke seen for miles around.

Dutik, the Ironmite Pokémon Steel/Bug- Type Dutik are known for building complex and towering maze-like hives over a mile high made completely out of scrap metal. A swarm of up to a thousand Dutik can lay waste to a cruise liner in a few minutes flat while building a hive.

Dutula, the Titanium Spider Pokémon Steel/Bug- Type While more solitary than its pre-evolution, this Pokémon is a brutal combatant, often consuming whole nests of Durant in just a couple days while simultaneously shrugging off a Heatmor’s Fire- Type attacks with ease.
