Puzzle 43: Tangrams
Created by...Unknown
Puzzle Classification: Tangrams; Puzzles; Speed Puzzling; Brain Teaser
Difficulty Level: N/A
Price: ~$17 for all 3 (Purcahsed Locally)
Review:
When I was kid growing up I overindulged in a MTV staple, The Real World vs Road Rules, aka The Challenge.
I was always engrossed by the weekly events which led to the culmination of a final epic Challenge.
Yes, the show was mostly suited for highly physically fit individuals - BUT - one aspect that helped balance the scales was the puzzles - and - one of the most featured puzzle in The Challenge was often a Tangram.
I was highly confident I would be able to complete these, as I did, but I was more worried about my time...which could have been better.
All-in-All, I was throughly enjoyed. Would love more, however I wish the cost was a bit more reasonable.

CTA S | WK02 Collaborative Skills
In the monument project, my strength as a collaborator was leading my teammates and organizing their ideas into a cohesive design. Since most group members had never spoken to each other before, I took the initiative to break the ice and guide discussions, creating a comfortable and productive atmosphere. However, I struggled with self-doubt and difficulty in making quick decisions, which can lead to frustration for others. To improve, I aim to leverage my strength in organization while acting calmly and making decisions more decisively.
The inspiration for our monument was Singapore’s racial diversity. During discussions, I noticed that our group members came from different ethnic backgrounds, which led me to propose a design celebrating Singapore’s multicultural identity. We used a tricolor concept to symbolize racial diversity, emphasizing unity by showing how the colors combine to form white. For the monument’s shape, I initially envisioned a variation of Marina Bay Sands but submitted its original form due to time constraints.
Reflecting on the project, I found my initial design personally unsatisfactory. If given the chance to redesign it, I would retain the message of unity but use a tangram-inspired structure. This would symbolize Singapore’s diverse races—distinct in shape yet forming a unified whole. The tricolor would remain, with white as the final layer to highlight harmony. This experience enhanced my appreciation for how design can communicate meaningful messages while fostering collaboration.

PLACE OF WORDS pt 3
muti-media workshop
After our briefing we were given a workshop of different media’s we can use within our magazine such as lino printing, collaging, bringing shapes together and stencilling.
Station 1 - Translation
Reduce the complexity of an image by using a stencil to print a selection of your images. You could use layers for different colours.
Station 2 -Reduction
Using lino, choose elements to carve and print.
Station 3 - Recreation
Using cut and paste and the texture library, find similar textures/shapes/objects/figures and recreate your images.
Station 4 - Simplify
Simplify your image by using a Tangram to produce an image using shapes.
using a few of my ideas I had come up with I created multiple pieces using different medias relating to different ideas.
I found I reached further into lino printing and putting the random shapes together. As the whole point of this brief was to help us create some more unique ideas to create our magazine with, I became very inspired with the ideas, which will hopefully show later within my magazine.
lino printing was based off of cults which led me instantly to the most famous cult to exist with is the illuminati. wanted to add dimension and feeling with adding more realistic details
putting shapes together in this flowing way gave me a lot of ideas for how I would layout my spreads.
I wanted to become more inspired by collaging as it is something I am not very strong with skill in but wanted to explore however with all of my ideas for the subject it wouldn't fit the persona I would have preferred.
the collage was detailed with a more creepy vibe to set the seen of a cult, with a basement, repetitive words and eyes, woods and people with masks. however iii were to venture into this side of my ideas I would have wanted to give this negative feeling and I would want it to be more informative.

Review:
Neat, Sweet, Cheap!
Yes, these little puzzles are great items to provide that punch of mental exercise with a tactile escape.
I highly recommend these perfect little office-desk time wasters.
I also have to admit I got a few lucky lays with my puzzles pieces that boosted my "solve" time - without that luck - I am not afraid to admit these tchotchkes would have buried brain in a (well welcomed) challenge - Brain Teasers with a Punch.
I'll say it again:
Neat, Sweet, Cheap - give them a go if find 'em.
