Big-ass Netflix animation news drop yesterday, ahead of Annecy and the release of ULTRAMAN RISING... Netflix is on a lot of shit-lists for a variety of things, including their careless race towards making more animated features but expecting them to be cranked out like it's a factory process or something... But I will say, the feature line-up they revealed yesterday sounds like banger-central. Too bad most of them likely won't see a physical media release, though.
WALLACE & GROMIT feature #2, VENGEANCE MOST FOWL... Coming later this year, featuring Feathers McGraw from THE WRONG TROUSERS... The hype is real.
The last half of 2024 will also be when Netflix debuts Skydance Animation's SPELLBOUND, that long-gestating fantasy picture from SHREK director Vicky Jenson with new Alan Menken-Glen Slater songs... I guess LUCK nuked whatever partnership Skydance, John Lasseter's current studio, had with Apple, although their new show WONDLA is debuting on that platform.
Skydance looks to follow up SPELLBOUND with TANGLED director Nathan Greno's POOKOO, another fantasy tale with otherworldy critters. Only a matter of time when we find out RAY GUNN, Brad Bird's retrofuturistic sci-fi noir whose development history dates aaaaall the way back to the mid-'90s, comes out.
Also curiously, prior to these announcements, Disney Animation director Don Hall (WINNIE THE POOH, BIG HERO 6, RAYA AND THE LAST DRAGON, and STRANGE WORLD) has joined the ranks at Skydance. Another director who worked under Lasseter at either WDAS or Pixar, now working for him again. I'm guessing he didn't particularly enjoy directing his last two features at WDAS under Jennifer Lee's stewardship, thus - much like Nathan Greno and Rich Moore - went back to his old pervy boss. Skydance Animation undeniably has a lot of top talent there, and directors of past animation blockbusters, but it really just sucks that it's run by Lasseter. And apparently he's running it just like he did with Pixar and WDAS, just as toxic. He micromanages projects once more and buckles directors under his mandates, like Alessandro Carloni, who was supposed to direct LUCK... But these guys are his favorites, so I presume they'll do fine over there.
Next year sees the release of IN YOUR DREAMS, from directors Alex Woo and Erik Benson. Two total opposite brothers who go to dreamland and try to convince the Sandman to save their parents' failing marriage, sounds promising. We already knew about THE TWITS, and also THE IMAGINARY, which debuts in a few weeks. Three imaginary friends movies in one year, coincidentally the year FOSTER'S HOME FOR IMAGINARY FRIENDS turns 20... I refuse to process that. I was so big on FOSTER'S back in the day, when I was 12 years old. Speaking of TV cartoons and adaptations of those, THE PLANKTON MOVIE is also on the boards for 2025, continuing the Netflix SpongeBob movie series running alongside the theatrical ones.
I'm also very happy to see that Sony Animation's wild-sounding K-POP: DEMON HUNTERS, from directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, is underway and will be debuting sometime next year. Sony Animation also revealed a new HOTEL, I mean... MOTEL TRANSYLVANIA series, and are still at work on the GHOSTBUSTERS animated series as well. Since this was all for Netflix-only projects, not a peep on the GHOSTBUSTERS animated movie that's also on the rails. I wish DEMON HUNTERS was heading to theaters, though, that's such a bonkers-looking film that would work great like that. Much like their MITCHELLS VS. THE MACHINES, but that got re-routed because of COVID, so I get that.
Curiously, no word on THE SHRINKING OF TREEHORN, a book adaptation from director Ron Howard. First thought to be a 2023 release, Netflix picked up the picture in 2022 and didn't set a date... Maybe it's gone the way of EMBER and other canned Netflix animated movies? Or a new date will be inked eventually? If it's aiming for 2026, then that'll explain the absence.
I'll keep my eyes on these as they get closer, but my top picks are VENGEANCE MOST FOWL and K-POP: DEMON HUNTERS.

I was just thinking about Wish and all the blatant references in it. I remember watching it in theaters and at first I thought "Okay cute, the friends are the dwarves, that citizen wants long hair, funny homage, Asha's looking at the stars like Tiana, that's nice..." then it all went downhill to "Just. Stop." by the climax. Especially the Asha/Fairy Godmother theory: as a POC I find that very offensive. Then I realized... Tangled was the 50th DAC movie, and it also had lots of references. (1)
There were all the hidden items in the tower, Pinocchio in the Snuggly Duckling, and the books in the library referencing other Disney movie covers. Not to mention the New Dream scenes that were similar to other DP couples, like the boat (Ariel/Eric), the dying love confession (Belle/Adam) and the whole princess + thief premise (Aladdin/Jasmine). And yet, those easter eggs didn't stop Tangled from being its own unique film. Same goes for Encanto, the 60th movie, and it referenced others, too (2) I think both Encanto and Tangled can still hold up as classic, rewatchable movies despite the anniversary celebrationz because the writers/directors/general crew put the references in the background. They were fun to find out about, but you don't need to know about them to still enjoy it. Wish, on the other hand... I feel like you would have to literally watch all the DAC movies and then some (Mary Poppins) before it even begins to hold up to the standards of the previous 'celebration' films (3) And even then, the story relies on the callbacks to get you to enjoy it. If I stripped Wish of every single Easter egg it had, I'd be left with barely a shell. Meanwhile, if I did the same to Tangled, the result would be pretty much the exact same movie. TLDR: Tangled is a much better anniversary movie than Wish, and that's a fact. So those are my thoughts, thanks so much for reading all this, I appreciate it! :D (4)
The thing is, the other movies you mentioned (Tangled and Encanto) were markers of "how many animated movies they've released" milestones, while Wish was 100 years of the Disney company. It's not the same kind of milestone at all, because it was marking time rather than progress. Not that this is excusing Wish of its disappointing story, but expressing the difference between the movies and the studio's approach to them. Tangled and Encanto (which, by the way, is my second favorite Disney movie from recent years) weren't written to be the 50th movie and the 60th movie. They were written to be their own things and happened to fall in line with the 50th and 60th release. In fact, some numbers had to be fudged a little in order to make Tangled line up with the 50th release, and Encanto was the tenth one after Tangled. Disney didn't even expect Encanto to do well, and were blown out of the water with surprise when it became a smash hit. Where as Wish was "crafted" (I use the word loosely) to be the 100 year celebration of the company.
Every time I find out more about earlier concepts of the film that they opted not to use (the Star being a prince, the king and queen being a power couple villain duo) I get very frustrated and angry about what we could have had. They had some really solid, interesting concepts in there, and they threw it all out the window in order to cram as many references as they could into it. Asha has seven friends (for example), to be the seven dwarfs, but their characters aren't developed at all. They had to tell us what the deal was with color coordination, alliterative names and gimmicks that lined them up with the dwarfs instead of focusing on them at all and making it clear through that who they were supposed to be. Just, "Get it? There's seven of them and this one wears glasses and Asha calls her 'doc' and this one's always sleepy and this one's always sneezing and this one's kind of dopey and this one's grumpy, get it?!?!?!"
I like Alan "I went to Julliard" Tudyk, but not only does he not need to be in every single Disney movie these days, they really didn't have to make Valentino, you know, a thing. "Get it? This is the origin of talking Disney animals, get it?!?!?!?!?!" And they really gave him way too much screen time. I'm often not a fan of the comedy relief animal sidekick as it is (there are some exceptions - some I really like and some I'm neutral to), but boy howdy did they overplay Valentino and make me actively dislike him.
The interesting thing is, I'm not a fan of Raya and the Last Dragon. I don't hate it, but I'm not a fan. I gave it a shot, I watched it, but it left no impression on me. It felt very... Millennial check-listed. POCs, found family, no overt romance but if it's there it's LGBTQ, dragons (cause who doesn't like dragons?), etc. Raya is fine. But for me, it's forgettable. I've only watched it the one time, I barely remember what happens in it, and I have a lot of trouble remembering the characters' names.
But Wish? Wish, I think about often. I have never been so disappointed in a Disney movie as I am with Wish, because Wish has the bare bones potential to be something great. And instead, it's that. What Disney should have done for its 100 year anniversary was make a movie that was finely crafted to show everything they've learned about animation in the past 100 years. I made an observation on a different blog that, when to you take a step back, King Magnifico is a stand-in for corporate Disney, and the whole movie is the crew railing against the corporation stripping the creativity from its workers and not valuing art, even though it’s in the art business. They just want everyone to love them, because everyone always has. Magnifico wants to hoard the wishes the way that corporate Disney wants to hoard talent, and the citizens willingly give up their talent and work because they believe something good will eventually be done with it. It feels to me like the climax of the movie is the artists and animators fighting the good fight against their corporate overlords the same way that actors and writers were striking for so much of 2023. It felt like a battle for the soul of the movie. But although the heroes of the movie win in the end, it was actually corporate who won, because the movie was stripped of all of its heart and soul in order to cram in more references. The artists did what they could, but they still had to follow orders if they wanted the movie to get made.
Oh, and as a side note, you can't just make a mortal human be a literal fairy by giving her a magic stick. That's not how that works.
Anyway, for my money, Once Upon a Studio is a much better homage to 100 years of Disney than Wish ever will be. Anyway, sorry for this incredibly long-winded rant.

3, 7 and 14 for the asks!! 😍
😭 I should have asked you more myself!! But I saw handwriting and went “I MUST have her write some of her FIC-“
3. 3 films you could watch for the rest of your life and not get bored of?
So 🤔 this is kinda tricky cause we hardly rewatch films in my house cause 🙄 my mom and dad only like watching things once usually. But but but I DO share in common with my mom that I love rewatching:
Encanto
Tangled
Turning Red
I’ve certainly annoying my sisters recently with Turning Red 🤣 it’s really good background noise and fu bro watch. Encanto cause it’s good!!! But also I’m latina and also feel not special like Mirabel 😭 my sister first time we watched the movie said Luisa reminded her of me tho thanks for clocking the older sister energy I guess. And tangled because Rapunzel my favorite Disney princess ever 🥺
7. what scares you the most and why?
Oof here’s where we get ✨depressing✨
First do we mean spine tingling or deep rooted fear that stabs at your heart till it aches and pours out? Cause I could easily say something concrete like cockroaches (they make me cry and shake so quick) but if we’re talking in ouchie heart ache type of scares it’s becoming unwanted and an inconvenience 😭 I’ve felt like that a few times in my life and heck I’ve been feeling it especially hard lately. Just gotta take a deep sigh and keep going cause I’m gonna like me enough to want me to stay! Ya know! Also I’m scared of being in absolute darkness and I’m scared to be out at night :)
14. what’s something you’ve always wanted to do but maybe been to scared to do?
😭 kinda related back to the other question Owie, this one seems kind of ridiculous but it’s the simplest and most heart breaking for me. All of my wants have this same thing in common but this one is the most recent so ridiculous or not here you are.
Going for a walk.
I’m, frankly, scared of the unwanted attention that comes with being a fat person in public 😭 I mean realistically I know no one’s actually looking at me but I can’t help but feel they are. In PE I was always last to finish and the kids who were done early would cheer me on and they meant well but it always made me cry. For a bit I got a little braver about walking on the treadmill at the university but I’m out now and we don’t have one at home. I’ve been wanting to go walking to better myself because 🥺 I could be better but I’m really scared of going to the park. It’s on the other side of town, it’s bigger with more shade, but it’s next to our high school and there’s a bunch of houses and there’s no good time for me to talk out of my day to do this and I’d go for a walk but we don’t have sidewalks where I live and I don’t want to walk in the road and block someone from their driveway. It’s all excuses I guess but all in all I’m afraid of existing in other people’s spaces.
But but to end on something positive!!! 🤔 um I’m really proud of the way I’ve conquered my fear of driving. I’m still afraid of that and going long distances to places I don’t know but now I feel that I just gotta go it and I’ll get used to it. It helps that my car is cute and I have stuffed animals 😄 I actually don’t hate driving as much anymore I like going around town with the windows down letting the air mess up my hair.
♥️Questions♥️ (yall should go ask Libby too 🩷)
#😭 help I made myself cry#sorry for the ✨trauma✨#Im trying to keep my face straight over here cause my mom sister and dad are in the room and I refuse to share this with them#i stopped sharing with my mom a long time ago tbh 😭 but that’s a whole other ✨dump✨#on the upside!!! I’m also proud of how honest I can be !!#it’s hard to talk about the deeper stuff sometimes cause who wants to hear that??? voluntary probably not too detailed but if you ask I’m#an open book#tbh I’m always an open book you just have to sift through my pages a bit#😄 anyways i love you and we *both* can make it though whatever is stabbing our hearts#we got this my love 😤#muah muah muah ♥️🩷#mys mail 💌#to everyone else I’m so SORRY you can ignore this#but also 🔫 you can make it though your problems too I believe in you#edit: the PAIN I felt in my chest when I thought this didn’t save oh my gosh I thought I was gonna have to type that all over again#i would have rather 🔫 myself#😭😭 okay I’m good I promise GASP

Journey Across the Disneyverse: Fourth Day
In honor of the 100th anniversary of the Walt Disney Animation Studios, I'm rewatching some of my favorite films from the studio.
This were the ones that I watched today.
1 - Tangled (2010)
I don't think it's an unpopular opinion to say this is a better film than Frozen.
This has all the emotions and sincerity of a classic Disney fairy tale updated for the 21st Century.
Rapunzel is like an updated Snow White, carrying all the innocence and optimism of the later, while adding agency and a fair share of badassery.
I see the Light is the most romantic moment in Disney history, and kingdom dance makes me cry every time.
2 - Frozen (2013)
I love this film deeply, even though I still don't understand what made this such a frenzied success back in 2013/2014.
Still puzzles me that most girls identified more with the reserved, elegant Elsa, than the bubbling, playful Anna.
Yeah, it was overplayed, but Let it Go is still a banger and a very inspirational sequence.
Talking about the twist villain, yeah, Disney Twist Villains suck. But not Hans. Having the prince charming archetype being the villain was an amazing twist. I think Hans was an incredible villain, even though his villain dialogue was cringe-worthy at some points.
I hate how people at Disney seem to genuinely hate Hans, not as a villain, but as a character in general. Every time he appears in any piece of media, he is the butt of the joke, which is a shame, because Hans could be as iconic villain as Jafar, the Evil Queen and Doctor Facilier.
3 - Moana (2016)
The last movie of Disney's Revival Era.
I love how it uses many Disney cliches, but instead of using them as standard fairy tale romance, the film uses the cliches to establish a hero's journey.
Moana is literally Ariel, but as a chosen one trying to save the world.
I truly, truly miss Ron Clements, and John Musker. They knew how to make a sincere, emotional fantasy film, something that I sometimes think the current directors at Disney struggle with

Top 10 Films!
(Thanks for the tag SO long ago @a-slut-for-smut! I actually had this entire post written in my drafts right after you had tagged me but never got around to post it for some reason LOL)
I don’t watch many films anymore these days (shows/series have taken place of it) so it took awhile to recall all of my favorites. It’s actually nice to remember though, because it means all of these really lasted with me over my life.
The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012): A perfect coming-of-age film and story, discovered in my junior year of highschool. First of all I was in love with Logan Lerman looool and Emma Watson. But there are lines of this book/movie that stuck with me through my life, and the movie executed it perfectly. A story of finding belonging, first love, overcoming trauma alongside loved ones, growing up. The soundtrack is phenomenal, even the music score album (I listen to that often while writing).
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004): The cinematography and shots in this are just so gorgeous and creative. It’s a quirky and angsty film circling around two imperfect lovers who choose to love, who deal with the heartbreak in a terrible way, and who fall in love again, saying yes to the struggle. And, come on! The idea of having your memories erased, then during the process realizing you want to keep the painful memories after all? And navigating through memories trying to hold onto the good and the bad? Just a beautiful concept. Lots of fantastic lines and scenes. I took a lot of inspo from one scene in particular of this movie into some of the latest chapters of my longfic.
The Fault in Our Stars (2013): First of all, TFIOS is one of my all time favorite books. John Green is my favorite author, and is the only (published) author I’ve EVER gone out of my way to read multiple works from. TFIOS was the first book that brought me to *literal* tears. It rocked my world, this ill-fated story of star crossed lovers. The movie did a fantastic job adapting it; as soon as the production was announced I followed it loyally and the execution of the film made it so worth the journey. Hazel and Augustus’ actors’ chemistry was just SO good. The film STILL makes me bawl like a baby. Pls watch.
Anastasia (1997): A favorite since childhood! Romanov Princess gone missing, forced to pretend she’s the princess but she doesn’t know she’s the princess, until she finds out the conman she’s working with was the child who saved her long ago in her lost past? And they fall in love? So the conman lets go of all his con ways??? BEAUTIFUL. Love the music, love the animation, loved the idea of finding the missing princess and the love story of an unrecognized reunion of two childhood friends. I’ve always wanted to write a Rivamika/Anastasia AU 🥰 Someday.
Tangled (2010): I think as a teen I just really resonated with the “lost princess, aching for more in her life, feeling stuck in a tower, fall in love with conman” trope 🤣 But also, this was one of the first movies that made me just feel overwhelmed with heart-squeezing emotion. (I freaking loved Rapunzel; related to her in many ways) The lantern scene took my breath away and I had never really felt that in a movie theater before. Love the soundtrack and movie scores (did a music analysis presentation on the score back in highschool), animation was and still is beautiful even if it was one of Disney’s pioneering 3D animation movies.
Les Miserables (2012): I’m a sucker for musicals but this is one that I hold special in my heart. Aside from the fact that I played violin for Les Mis productions for two years, so I am attached to the music deeply... the story! The cinematography! The acting! The live singing! The instrumentals! Just a perfect cinematic experience. Eponine’s friend-zone story still breaks my heart, and I watched this movie at a time when I was going through her situation. I fell in love w the storytelling; how it took the journeys of multiple protagonists and perfectly interweaved each arc into each other’s so seamlessly. Also another movie that makes me bawl. Now that I stop to think of it, Fantine reminds me of Kuchel ;-;
Titanic (1997): I just rewatched this recently, after many many many years since childhood where I wasn't allowed to watch the kiss scenes (lol!) and holy wow it is a fantastic movie from start to end. It also helps now that I totally see Jack/young Leo as Levi. Beautiful timeless love story set in history. You know everything that happens and yet you still get so immersed into it.
August Rush (2007): I haven’t watched this in YEARS but 100% this deserves to be on my faves. August, an orphan who is looking for his parents, is discovered for his musical talents on an inspiring journey. Beautiful story about how someone’s passion for music/art (anything, really) can change their life; his parent’s story even becomes a reunion love story. This def had moments that took my breath away, too. (When August Rush gets up on that stage with the orchestra, ahhhh)
The Pianist (2002): (And honorable mention: Schindler’s List) Painfully beautiful movies. Terrible history of our world, depicted with care and pointing to the glimmers of hope in a heart wrenching way that deeply affects you. I think of both of these movies often. In The Pianist, Brody’s character is discovered to be a pianist by a German officer who helps him hide. Schindler’s List is about how a German man risks it all to save many Jews. The directing in both is phenomenal; the music—agh, that violin in Schindler’s List—too. I tear up thinking of this.
The Prince of Egypt (1998): Lastly, The Prince of Egypt. This movie rocked my world to see an ancient story, which I grew up with and was important to me and my faith when I was young, illustrated and animated with such beautiful art, music, etc. Moses leading a slave nation out of Egypt despite the odds. The burning bush scene and this one will always be iconic cinema scenes in my heart. Phew. Pls watch to those scenes with the music!!!
Thanks for tagging me @a-slut-for-smut! This was so fun to put together. I’ve been wanting to rewatch old classics to case-study the story writing and learn from my faves, so a movie marathon after the busy season will be a fun learning experience 😍
I tag: @chaosisbeauty23 @nuri148 @rivaille-13 @bryhaven @levi4mikasa @lady-purpleblue @warbarbie @your-lavender-dreams @nina-bean @onwriting-hrarby @randomposterofstuff @guliplum1 and anyone else in the community that wants to participate!!!

Fifteen Days of Disney Magic - Number 5
Welcome to Fifteen Days of Disney Magic! In honor of the company’s 100th Anniversary, I am counting down my Top 15 Favorite Movies from Walt Disney Animation Studios! We’ve now entered the Top 5 of the Countdown! Today’s entry is the ONLY Modern Era Movie on the List. Number 5 is…Zootopia.
Right about now, I imagine a lot of people reading are asking themselves the same question: “Why Zootopia?” Out of all the modern Disney films I could choose – from Tangled to Encanto to beyond – why does “Zootopia” not only end up being the only modern era movie in my Top 15, but actually a film that makes it into my Top 5, even trumping “Alice in Wonderland”? My honest answer is…I actually don’t really know. I guess the best way I can put it is…it’s just the right film for me. “Zootopia,” in essence, is Disney’s version of a neo-noir mystery. And it actually IS a legitimate and decently-told mystery! It’s not as dark as actual neo-noir films, obviously, but the style of the story, the way the characters act and interact, and even the way things are shot and lit (in animation) feels like a sort of child-friendly version of movies like “Chinatown” or even older pictures such as “The Big Sleep” (which apparently was a direct influence on the movie). I’ve always been a fan of film noir, and especially the crime and mystery genre of the medium, so seeing a film that had that kind of quality, while still being just as bright and colorful as most Disney movies, and with a grand sense of humor about itself, was very interesting. I also love the cast of this movie; both Nick Wilde and Judy Hopps are among my favorite protagonists in any Disney feature to date. Judy actually might be my choice for my favorite Disney heroine, in particular, and Nick is easily in my Top 5 for the male leads. They’re both fun and flawed in their own ways, and the manners in which they bounce off one another, and the development of their relationship over the course of the story, are really a treat to behold. I also have to give credit to their voice actors. Despite being well-acquainted with at least some of the works from both performers – Jason Bateman for Nick, and Ginnifer Goodwin for Judy – I feel they both just totally disappear into their respective characters. With celebrity voice artists, especially in a lot of more modern films, I think the success rate of their work is sort of 50/50. When it’s not managed well, sometimes the person behind the mic becomes more important than the actual character being presented, and you can sort of feel the distance between the actor and the microphone. With Bateman and Goodwin, I never got that feeling: they’re just right there, in the role! There are no actors, only Nick and Judy, and that really is a big part of what makes them so great to me.
The rest of the cast is pretty good, too. Even some of the most minor characters or brief supporting roles can have a big impact. It’s telling that, when Disney+ announced a new Zootopia spin-off show, instead of focusing on Nick and Judy’s new adventures, the series was a bunch of shorts that focused on the supporting players and their own lives and interests. In the film, these were characters you wanted to learn more about, and the show did exactly that. The themes and messages of the film are fascinating: I often hear people say that there’s stuff really hammered in within this movie, but I actually don’t think that’s the case at all. To me, the film gives a message that is both timely and timeless, but does so in a way that is contemporary and fresh, and does so with a story that you can relate to a lot of different problems in the world and history. You can read it a few different ways, and every way is important. I’m not going to act like this is the absolute best of all the modern era Disney films; to be honest, I don’t know which movie has that distinction. And while Zootopia definitely has a major following, I don’t know if it’s quite as “big” as films like “Frozen” or “Wreck-It Ralph.” But for me, this is easily my favorite Disney movie to have come out within the past couple decades at least, and definitely worthy of a spot in my Top 5. I don’t know how many other people would share this sentiment, but it’s one I’m holding onto regardless. The end draws ever nearer. The countdown continues tomorrow with my 4th Favorite Disney Movie! HINT: It Should Ring a Bell.

✨ about this blog ✨
★ hey, i'm starlight or star! i'm in my 20s. i'm genderfluid (between being a woman, a man, and agender) and i constantly change my pronouns in my bio but they/them is always fine!!
★ my ask box is always open and i love talking about my favorite characters and ships and sharing my thoughts in general! i also love being tagged in things. and for mutuals my DMs are always open too 💖
★ i don't have a DNI but i do want to say that i am not comfortable with seeing incest or pedophilia, even in fictional ships, and i don't ever want to talk about those kinds of ships so if you think that stuff is cute then we probably won't get along! if you just like media that has dark themes that's fine but i would still ask you to tag it if you post it. i use "#star don't look" as a catchall blacklist tag.
★ i have an anime sideblog over at @ritsukageyamas, a blog dedicated to the emperor's new groove at @kuzcoskingdom, and a stim blog where i make my own stimmy gifs and post stimboards over at @glitteringstardust! i've got a handful of other sideblogs too but i'm not really using any of them atm. if/when i become more active on them in the future i'll add them here.
★ sometimes when i happen to be in the mood, i make gifs and edits on here too! but mostly i just reblog a ton of stuff and ramble about whatever. occasionally i liveblog things.
★ my main fandoms are basically listed in my bio but i also decided to ramble about them and include some other assorted info under the cut!
★ i'm a huge animation nerd!! i especially love walt disney animation and pixar films. some of my favorites include beauty and the beast, tangled, frozen, toy story 1-3, onward, and coco. i love all kinds of other animated films too but you can expect to see lots of disney/pixar stuff in general on here as it's basically my longest lasting special interest.
★ i am also deeply in love with kingdom hearts and it's one of the things you can expect to see a lot of posts about. riku is one of my favorite fictional characters of all time and sorikai means the world to me.
★ if you couldn't guess by my url i'm also brainrotting hard over twisted wonderland lately and will likely continue doing so for the foreseeable future. i have soooo much love for so many of the characters i literally can't even pick a favorite dorm. but riddle and idia are practically tied for the spot of my fave character and i ship riddle/floyd and idia/vil very hard.
★ i am very into pokemon but especially the hoenn, unova, alola, and paldea regions and the pokemon mystery dungeon series. love pokemon adventures/pokespe as well.
★ also majorly obsessed with baldur's gate 3 at the moment. especially gale. and elenion, my silly little half-elf bard guy that i romanced gale with 💜 and i don't see this changing anytime soon either.
★ so the above things are kinda the main fandoms you'll see on here but my brain is also constantly hopping between other interests and getting me in the mood to reblog and talk about different things!! some of those other things can include uhhhh the PJO universe, utdr, a3! act addict actors, twewy, the original sherlock holmes stories + granada TV series, LOTR, ace attorney, avatar the last airbender, neopets, and also just. so many other things. unfortunately i shove 90% of what i like onto here instead of having sideblogs for the most part.
★ also please please let me know if you need something tagged and i'll do my best to keep it in mind!!
★ oh yeah. and if you wanna follow me on twitter you can but i'm rarely active there these days!
★ hmm i guess that's all, so if you actually read this thank you so much and i hope you enjoy your day!!! 💖

Animated projects I want to do/am planning to do;
Cats. Just. Cats. It’d be better animated. I can’t do it NOW because rights but. One day. One day
The Green Knight. There’s never been a good animated movie or series about the story/one at all. I’d do it with a blond Gawain, if you know why you know why lol.
20,000 Leagues Under The Sea. One of my siblings is obsessed with 20,000. He can quote the book, he’s seen the Disney live action movie. He’s seen the one animated movie. He owns shirts and plushies of giant squid. His favorite song by Nightwish is Nemo for obvious reasons. I made myself a promise once I get 2 animated projects done as practice, I’m making him this movie for a birthday. He’s already given me detailed descriptions of his favorite scenes for me to draw for him. It wouldn’t be terribly hard to move it from illustrations to animation. Time consuming, but not hard. I just want this one to be as perfect as possible.
Eliza and the twelve swans. I want to do this so I have footage for an edit, lol. All I want. But it’d be fun anyway and would force me to learn to draw swans. That’d be good for me.
The Harlequinade. Think Cinderella meets Romeo and Juliet but there’s a marriage not a double suicide at the end and instead of a girl getting a magic dress to go to a dance it’s a hot headed young man/person (Harlequin’s gender is a guideline AT BEST) with a magic cudgel called The Slapstick who wants to see his lady love at a party and his boss and friends and god himself arent going to stop him from going and causing chaos. Think it’d be fun and most people have forgotten about the comedy archetypes so making a movie about the most famous story would be a great way to reintroduce. (However VivziePop’s Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss follow several of the Commedia Del’Arte stories and not a lot of people have noticed. Hopefully a project explicitly about them will help people be able to notice and appreciate the details in her story too)
Mirrormask. This is similar to Cats but I wouldn’t mind one day. It’s my fave Gaiman book, and I love the Jim Henson take on it. I just want to explore it my way one day.
The Nettle Spinner. Read the story in the link and tell me that’s not begging to be an epic animated film. I cannot. I love this. I love the main character, she’s badass. (Two of six main characters designed, script in progress)
The dirty shepherdess/I love you more than meat loves salt. So Tangled had an…early early concept where two kids get sucked into a fairy tale book and have to enact the story of Rapunzel. I like this idea. It’s an oldie but a goody. For my take, two kids who work at a bookstore have this happen to them with a Cinderella type story, and shenanigans and romance ensue.
Belle Belle. It’s Mulan but magic, takes place in France, has bisexual representation (both a princess and prince want the main character Belle Belle), potential trans representation(Belle Belle is literally turned into a male body for the majority of the story and the prince is still into him/her before she gets back in a dress), and I just. I need Belle Belle. I need Belle Belle onscreen. I need to see her story play out. I need villainess princess being a villain because she’s pissed off “the handsome soldier” snubs her advances for the preference of the attention of the prince. As a male presenting solider at the time. We need this. I do, kids do, we all do. Plus, we can update it to be more explicitly positive lgbt than tropes. And 15th century tropes at that. Also it’s written by the same person who wrote beauty and the beast
King Arthur and Jack the Giant killer reborn in sci fi dystopia, and in love with each other
Katie Crackernuts. If you don’t know the story it’s a lot of fun. Has been referenced in Hellboy. Her sister gets her head taken by the Fae so Katie recruits the help of a prince and they go wage war on the unlucky schmucks who stole the head in the first place (no offense I call them schmucks as they had no idea who they were picking a fight with and she TERRORIZES THEM)
Babes in Toyland. Yes I know there’s been three separate movie adaptations of the musical. The beauty of this thing is all three of them are wildly different takes from each other and the source material but also all of them are fairly faithful to the spirit of the source material. Which is cool. There’s a lot you can do with it. I’d love to do something from it.
Ariadne and Dionysus, but as the perspective of Dionysus getting her from the underworld. Explore his self through going to the underworld after his wife, exploring humanity he’s always been among but never been part of. Explore how he’s been here before, and he’s here to steal a soul-again. And who, exactly that soul is. I feel it’s interesting Dionysus is married to the goddess of labyrinths and paths. Plus, her family is as fascinating as he is.
We’ve seen a steampunk version of treasure island, now I wanna see a cyberpunk version. Where the internet is not unlike rivers or oceans among the towers and buildings of the cities. The question is what the treasure is, what the island is, in this version.
An animated horror movie about gods being vampiric in nature. Feeding off of and forcibly turning humans into gods to stay alive and in power.
Psyche and Eros. I mean. She’s similar to Hercules, down to pissing off a goddess who turns into her mother in law at the end of her feats. She becomes a god like Hercules does. Has a ton of novel retellings but no movies? Come on now. Hercules can’t be the only one with movies, or just a focus on the male heroes. It’s neither accurate nor fair. Loverboy by Mattis solidified it for me. It really fits Eros well, especially in the throes of his longing for Psyche. I also love God Is A Woman for Psyche vs Aphrodite
Web/TV Shows;
Power rangers fan animated show. For a next gen group of kids and supernatural group of rangers. It centers around Night Crew, a group of unusual colors as rangers. Only one of their group is human. They fight against Rito and a group of evil rangers, former friends (script of episode one in progress)
Bodies Are My Hobby. A supernatural detective story about a disabled Detective named Asher Crow teaming up with a strange spirit. Goal of the show is show off different supernatural creatures and have them framed for murders…but it’s always humans. The spirits ask Asher to clear their names. The seven deadly sins and seven heavenly virtues get pulled into this as well, eventually. Asher has a love interest named Legend Salt. I’ve drawn Legend before
I love Legend way too much lol (two main characters designed, story completely plotted out, episode one’s script partly written out)
The Magician’s Nephews. Disney associated. Mickeys nephews are the only direct child aged family of the friend trio that’s never been given their own shows. He has a twin sister. I wanna see his family! In a show! I want him being a weird Cryptid! But until Disney gets over themselves I’m not pitching this to them. No. Sorry, no. I want to but…-sighs-
Star Wars Visions episode. You have to be invited to do an episode. I want to get to a point where I am invited. Episodes are not considered canon so you can really do whatever you want. A conversation with a sibling caused me to go “wait-WAIT” and now that convo I want to make an episode. It involves Savage Opress and Asajj Ventress. As my brother said “it’s possible Asajj had a kid with Savage. She’s the more powerful one in the relationship; she wouldn’t have to tell him about the kid.” Heh. It’s too good an opportunity. But like Magician’s Nephews I’d rather do it when Disney gets their shit together but. I’d still take the invitation -shrugs- doubtful it’ll happen so I can daydream all I want

Songs of the La La Land
La La Land (2016) is an American romantic musical comedy-drama film by Damien Chazelle. It was one of the most successful films at that time when it was first released worldwide, but I had not got a chance to watch it properly yet. After watching this musical film for the very first time, sentimental differences popped up from it. I, who only loves to watch musical films that are from Disney studio’s animations like Frozen or Tangled, can clearly witness the differences between real-life actions and the animations that stand out. The animated musical films are mainly for kids or adults who love watching cartoons, so they are really easy to get into. But when it comes to a live-action musical film like La La Land, the realistic aspects can be seen in the film. However, I watched some real-life action musical films even though they are not really my type at all like Pitch Perfect, The Greatest Showman, and a bit of Singin' in the Rain so that I know some of the fundamental elements of how a musical film should be. Musical films are films that are significant in film making such as dancing, singing, music, and universal themes like love and comedy. Moreover, this movie was somehow created more splendidly than other musical films in general.
The feature that can be considered this film’s signature is the stillness of the surroundings. Compared to other general musical films, the dancing and singing scenes go together with the rest of the world and play an important role in running the plot and story of the films. For example, the performances from Pitch Perfect, The Greatest Showman, and most of Disney’s musical animations are the main event that runs the films since they are the main parts of the films. Whereas in La La Land the rest of the world seems to be stopped magically when the performers perform their scene and only the performers are moving. If those films use the technique used in La La Land it will be somehow unreasonable.
My favorite scene: a really charming scene.
This is one of the very famous and memorable scenes from La La Land. It is when Mia and Sebastian dance together while the song, “A Lovely Night” is played. Some elements make this film outstanding from other musical films. The romantic composition and choreographic movements of tap dancing. This dancing scene may be similar to a scene from Singin' in the Rain in a more civilized place and at a time and also the theme of the film itself. La La Land can express that scene from that a past film that was outstanding in musical films in particular.
And also, the last montage clearly explains the theme of love in this film. It shows different endings of their relationship in several versions since they both have the same dream.

Ugh...
Here we go again with this... Something something, "It's not my fault Disney is making these sequels! I avoided their latest original movies because they sucked! I shouldn't be to blame for that!"
A) These Disney Animation and Pixar sequels were likely always going to be made regardless of how the recent original movies performed financially. In the biz, if a movie makes a shit-ton of money, it's likely getting a sequel. It ain't 1997 anymore.
B) There is no blame or punishment, per se... The system in the world of mainstream American feature animation is working as intended. It's capitalism 101. It sucks, yes, but that's how it is. The performance of one movie dramatically affects the slate, or even the studio's survival. Must we dredge up what happened to Blue Sky after The Walt Disney Company bought them and their first movie released by them lost money at the box office? Better yet, all the times Disney Animation faced shutdown for many decades.
C) What if... Hear me out... These sequels are all pretty good? Better than the recent original stuff, even? Impossible! Something can be a critically-acclaimed audience favorite, and you'd still have gaggles of people online insisting the thing in question is garbage. Just look at TURNING RED, for example. It's all fuckin' subjective at the end of the day.
D) It's never gonna be good enough anyways, so why bother? I don't think I can name a *single* Disney animated movie where almost everyone was on the same page, praising it... Since THE LION KING? The latter-years Renaissance movies all had their detractors, as did the early 2000s movies, as did all the "Revival" movies (why don't they do 2D anymore? Because a lot of people avoided PRINCESS AND THE FROG and WINNIE THE POOH). I remember there were at least a few people who didn't like TANGLED, WRECK-IT RALPH, etc. etc. Were very vocal about that or didn't think they were "Disney enough" or whatever. Hell, even LION KING used to get flack for the KIMBA similarities. Plenty of the now-beloved films overseen by Walt Disney himself were largely greeted with mixed or negative reviews upon initial release. It'll never be perfect, it's just the nature of the beast. How the movies live on, is the more important part. Not the opinions of self-appointed "experts" on the Internet. Again, it's all personal preference.
The thing is, the movies Disney chooses to make is kind out of our control. No one should be obliged to pay for a product so that you get the next one like it ("vote with your wallet!"), but unfortunately, that's how the biz works. If you're not game on the latest films from the studio, you're also not to blame for what they do next, but they're gonna do what they're gonna do. That's just that about that. Hell, the thing can be a big success... And they'll still do the opposite of what people want! Off the top of my head, not an animated movie, but WORLD WAR Z 2 not moving forward despite how well the first one did. Again, it sucks. But... If WDAS ever got to a point where they were making things that I just did not want to see whatsoever? Then I'd go watch something else. It's ultimately the higher-ups' decisions that are at fault.
Very rarely are financial failures looked at logically, very rarely do executives ever try to pick up the pieces from there. Instead it's "never make this kind of thing again" or "shut this place down". It happened to Blue Sky. It happened at DreamWorks, projects cancelled (B.O.O., MONKEYS OF MUMBAI, etc.), staff laid off, a whole animation unit closed down (Pacific Data Images), etc. Disney Animation threw 2D features out twice, cancelled many movies, laid off tons of people multiple times, they faced complete shutdown multiple times. Animated movies are expensive and require lots of people and resources, they're fragile as is. COVID-19 really cut into their box office, and it doesn't help that going to the movies costs a fortune.
I'm not saying this is all a good, it's not. I've just made peace with it, and can only hope films keep getting made, staff still have work and roofs to keep over their heads, and maybe... Just maybe, I'll like the movies, too?
Anyways, I hope I like MOANA 2. I'm curious to see what the director and writers and artists and musical talents all bring to this world that was created by the first film.

this is SO many thoughts at once. keep reading for: Discourse on Animation Styles (ft. How To Kill An Animation Studio in 2009), Anna and Quasimodo's 'I Want Songs', how Elsa and Anna's vocal lines mirror their relationship, Princess DO actually love their dads, how princesses reflect the values of their era, and THERE WAS NEVER GOING TO BE A QUEER RILEY IN INSIDE OUT 2 YOU STUPID SLUTS. WE ARE NOT GETTING A QUEER PRINCESS.
okay let's talk Princess and the Frog v Tangled REAL fast. PatF was the LAST disney 2d animated movie and the first black disney princess. this was entirely intentional bc they knew it would fucking flop. they wanted her to flop. they wanted uproar over a black princess so they could never do a 2d movie again. there are a lot of issues with PatF (mostly the fact our two black leads are not actually black for the majority of the movie, but rather.... frogs. and also the fact that NAVEEN is voiced by a WHITE MAN. i only just found this out and it crushed me) but generally. cute film. good music. i cry over that goddamn firefly every time. but they knew that based on a black princess alone they would have an excuse to shut down their 2d animation studio.
this leads us to Tangled, where we have made an EXTREME shift. it is the most expensive disney movie (at its time, might still be, idk) because they had to REHIRE A WHOLE NEW STUDIO to do the animation. and yes the animation is beautiful (the animators working on the hair like, studied it for years and years and i give them their kudos) but . it's the death of 2d animation with a HANDFUL of antisemitism (but enough that you can deny its even there. people think i'm being a sjw when i point it out and it's like. you don't have to agree with me but i don't have to like this fuckass movie).
anyway . that's a rant i have in my head at all times. i also want to talk about anna and quasimodo being two of my favorite characters and how their i-want songs are so similar: anna knows she only gets one day out there, and quasimodo is begging for one. both get one and uh, shit goes bad! and it's CRUSHING. anna's plot fucking kills me. IF ONLY THERE WERE SOMEONE OUT THERE WHO LOVED YOU? i knew it was gonna happen b4 i saw the movie bc i saw it late but like. it still hits. esp with the musical's song "True Love" that she knew she'd always die behind a closed fucking door. love is an open door has that beautiful double meaning of . love metaphorically being an open door to other things such as happiness, fulfillment, etc. but also the physical thing of an open door being love; love is laying on the couch together, love is making food for them, love is an open door. this song plays during the 'love' section of the 18 minute long fireworks show in disneyworld and sometimes it strikes me as a strange choice bc it's also a villain song but. it also makes me cry sometimes.
also. no matter what metaphor you're getting out of elsa and her ice powers. queerness. mental illness. any disability. whatever. the thing that fucking gets me about it is that the ice powers themselves are not harmful. her choosing to isolate herself is what is harmful. she is TOTALLY down with isolating herself (thus, 'let it go') but the moment she realizes that isolating herself is causing pain to others ('for the first time in forever (reprise)'), she has a breakdown. there's no escape for her at this point. "stay away and you'll be safe from me" being a heartbreaking fucking line and then the realization that comes from: actually, they're not. and at no point in either 'first time in forever' can elsa and anna sing TOGETHER. even when they are in agreement (it's only for today / it's agony to wait), they cannot sing together. it's always counterpoint. and even once everything is solved, once anna's act of true love thaws her frozen heart... they still don't sing together. they don't sing at all, but they don't sing together. they can love each other now, deeply, but that doesn't mean shit is fixed. iirc... they don't even sing together in frozen 2? but i only saw that movie once (when it came out) bc i was pretty unimpressed by it (plot was convoluted and only two songs bang. i obviously mean show yourself and lost in the woods btw).
also here's my little mermaid rant that goes into my jasmine rant. ariel did not give up her tail for a man. her dream from the literal very fucking beginning was to be on land. she did not want that goddamn tail. she wanted the legs the whole time. losing her tail did not feel like a loss. the only thing she was losing was her family, and that's bc her family CHOSE to isolate her for being interested in the human world (my sibling and i chatted last night about this being a metaphor for autism, since like. essentially the human world is her special interest and everyone is shitting on her for it at all times. but i think it also works as a trans allegory since there is a physical transformation she goes through and wants to go through that everyone else thinks is dumb. NOTABLY in the end, and in the sequel, though, she gets what she wanted: her legs and her inclusion the human world, and her family's love).
my dad made a comment one time about how they should invent a disney princess that respects her dad, and they explicitly used ariel and jasmine as their examples. as mentioned, triton fucking ignored everything ariel wanted. ariel didn't disobey her dad for a man (despite the iconic 'but daddy, i love him!'), but for her dream she had the entire goddamn time. and jasmine... was 16... about to be a child bride... and um... didn't want that. so fucking yeah i hate her dad too.
and they DID invent disney princesses that respect their dads. um cindella did NOT want her dad to fucking die. merida LOVED her goddamn dad. she just had mommy issues. BELLE GAVE UP EVERYTHING FOR HER DAD. BELLE DID NOT SACRIFICE HER ENTIRE LIFE FOR MAURICE SO MY DAD COULD SAY THEY SHOULD INVENT A PRINCESS THAT RESPECTS THEIR DAD. and finally. in a complete full circle moment. Tiana Loved Her Dad So Fucking Much That It's Kind Of The Plot. my father has not seen princess and the frog. he does not know that the plot is fueled by tiana's ambition, which is fueled by her dad and her love for her dad. "i remember daddy told me / fairy tales can come true / you gotta make 'em happen / it all depends on you" is like. literally her motivation for everything she does. so do not fucking look at me and tell me they should invent a princess who respects her dad when what you mean is that they should invent a princess who blindly obeys every single thing her dad does, even when he is explicitly in the wrong and sort of opposed to her bodily autonomy.
like there's been comparisons of how each princess reflects her era's values: cinderella, aurora, snow white; all very quiet, beautiful in a very European way, elegant, good dancers. and then we move into the golden age with Belle and Ariel and Jasmine who are all headstrong, fighting against whatever patriarch they have and want to marry who they want to marry, etc. and our modern princess (rapunzel, anna, i'll put mirabel here despite not being a princess, and from my understanding, asha, but i have not seen wish yet and do not plan on it) fall into the adorkable archetype of like. always falling over and being a bit silly, and not quite sure how to socialize yet always pull it off. i'm very curious to see what the next archetype of princess looks like bc according to the patterns, we're moving into a new chapter pretty soon.
last thought. they were never going to make riley gay. LET ALONE fucking nonbinary. "but the emotions in her head have different genders while the emotions in her parents heads all match the gender of the parents! doesn't that mean she's probably genderfluid or something?" no it means disney didn't want six of the main characters (the 5 emotions + riley) in one movie to all be women and they thought it would be funny if riley's dad's emotions all had mustaches. we are not getting a queer protagonist let alone a fucking transgender one. this is disney. snow white came out in 1937. first princess of color was 1992 which is, in fact, fifty five years later, and she wasn't even the protagonist (i'm talking about jasmine). 1998 was first princess of color who WAS the protagonist (mulan). 2009 was first black princess (72 years after snow white. SEVENTY TWO YEARS AFTER THE FIRST PRINCESS WAS INTRODUCED). disney is 100 years old (and god is there enough merchandise to remind you). we are not getting a goddamn queer princess for another 30 years, minimum. and when we do, she's not going to be a main character. it's gonna be some fucking one-off episode on a disney+ show (not even disney jr, where we got the first (and only, iirc, since nobody in encanto is a princess) latina princess). and i'm not going to give them credit where credit is due bc there is no fucking credit due. the first pride collection was in 2018 (LIKE LITERALLY SIX YEARS AGO) and that's it. we are going to get Lefous and Onward Cops and Women Holding Hands in Finding Dory forever as long as they know they can make money off of queer people (buying the pride shit) without having to do any actual fucking work. also the pride stuff is ugly and is always ugly.
anyway. hope this explains how i hate this company but love some of the art it creates. like i think you can like. enjoy disney movies. i think a lot of people put a lot of effort into them and they are often very good (especially the older ones, but we are seeing a lot LESS effort in newer ones. cough cough. WISH. cough), particularly for the music, particularly anything Alan Menken worked on . but you also cannot pretend they are more than they are. my dad always says disney is a toy company, not a media company. every movie exists just so they can sell toys. you get off a ride at disneyworld and where do you end up? gift shop, selling toys based on the ride/characters on the ride. it's getting worse. the movies are getting worse. but just. you can't go into a circus expecting an opera.
i have a lot of d*sney rants and some about the workplace but i have one that is a smorgasbord of feelings about children's animated movies. please hold.

So anyways, here’s my list that absolutely nobody asked for of the least hot to the most hot Disney prince
10. Prince Charming (Prince Henry according to Disney Wiki) (Cinderella, 1950)
He is called Prince "Charming", but there is nothing about him that's charming in the slightest. The 2007 direct-to-video sequel Cinderella III: A Twist in Time did redeem him a little by making him more humorous and interesting, but still, he isn't that hot to me.
9. The Prince (again, Prince Florian according to Disney Wiki) (Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, 1937)
Yeah, this prince ends up pretty low in my list because he just wasn't interesting at all and his physical attractiveness couldn't be appreciated at all mostly due to the limitations the animators had animating him. Besides, when you take close-up look at him, he looks like he's wearing makeup, which is just a no for me, I don't care what anybody says. I like "One Song", though.
8. John Smith (Pocahontas, 1995)
I can't stress enough just how John Smith is one of my least favorite Disney men, which is partially why he is so low in my list. He is not an ugly dude by any means, objectively speaking, so I get why Pocahontas would be attracted to him on a physical level (I wish she had gone for Kocoum, tho), but Idk man, he just doesn't grab me at all.
7. Prince Adam, A.K.A. The Beast (Beauty and the Beast, 1991)
Okay, many people have joked about the Beast version of Prince Adam being hotter than his human version, and they are right but to an EXTENT only. Still, I think Adam is pretty darn good-looking, even with his ginger hair (only few guys rock ginger hair, don't @ me). Unfortunately, we have yet to see enough of his human side, which I think would be a very interesting outlook on his character. I'd love to see how he would cope with the trauma of having been cursed to be a beast and living with that for a decade (and when he was a child, A CHILD!!!!). With all that being said, Adam is kind of hot but not hot, HOT like the ones I'mma mention later.
6. Li Shang (Mulan, 1998)
Ah, yes, my guy Li Shang is one of the hottest military men we have seen in animation. Over the years, I never cared for Shang that much, and even though he is technically not in my top 5 of hottest Disney™ men, I won't deny he is very attractive and looks fantastic (and realistic, might I add) shirtless. The fact that he's a little shy with Mulan in the end of the film, in spite of him being a whole warrior, adds points to his hotness, imo! In this house, we love and respect Li Shang.
5. Prince Phillip (Sleeping Beauty, 1959)
Out of the trio of the classic Disney princes, Phillip is definitely the one that's the most interesting, attractive and charming. He might be lacking a little when compared to other latter heroes in terms of character development, but Idc, he deserves credit for being the first Disney prince that actually had a personality, was charismatic and active in the rescue of his lady, something the first two didn't do yet get an unfair amount of credit for it. I find Phillip to be quite hot and charming, which is why he ends up high in this list, something I usually don't see in others's lists of hot Disney men, and I think that's an injustice. Give my guy Phillip more credit!
4. Flynn Rider, A.K.A. Eugene Fitzherbert and Prince Horace (Tangled, 2010)
Of course Flynn had to be high because he's, well, Flynn Ryder and you can't debate that. There is no doubt that Flynn is one of the most interesting, charismatic and funniest men in Disney canon. This dude is pure gold, and he is incredibly hot and charming, which is a very nice plus. What else can I say? He's just that sexy. I believe Flynn would have been even hotter in 2D because traditional animation just has something about that that makes someone a hunk or a gorgeous woman.
3. Prince Naveen (The Princess and the Frog, 2009)
Prince Naveen might have been a typical arrogant womanizer at the beginning of the film, but let’s be real, can you really deny his incredible hotness? Naveen is a hunk, and Tiana definitely won in life by not only opening her own restaurant, but also by getting a man like him. Naveen learnt his lesson in the end and was willing to do anything for his lady in the end, which earns him extra points for hotness, imo. I love Naveen and he is definitely one of my favorite Disney men (and one of the most underrated, if I say so myself).
2. Aladdin (Aladdin, 1992)
Aladdin was and still is a hunk, no matter how many years pass by. There's something about dark hair, thick eyebrows and a nice smile in a man that's just! so! appealing! Aladdin was drawn to look like a teen heartthrob (I mean, he was inspired by Tom Cruise. Let that tell you something), and he is still swooned over after all these years (almost 30). Aladdin is one of the most attractive Disney men not only for his looks and physique, but also for him charisma, personality and bravery, which is a great plus for anybody, really. Anyone who doesn't think Aladdin is hot needs to gets their eyeballs checked. Just look at my man <3
1. Prince Eric (The Little Mermaid, 1989)
And last, but certainly not least, we got Prince Eric. Prince Eric usually ends up very high in the hot/sexy Disney male characters lists, and for a very good reason. Eric is undoubtedly the sexiest, most charming (10x more charming than actual Prince Charming ever was) and most handsome prince Disney has ever given us. When I began watching The Little Mermaid, I just developed a crush on Prince Eric because he is just so attractive. I love his smile, his captivating eyes, his black hair and thick eyebrows. Now, when it comes to character development, he is, of course, not necessarily a top 3 character, but he sure is far more interesting and charismatic than the princes that came before him. The fact that he was a dog-lover and was willing to sacrifice himself for his lady is a giant plus. Eric isn't just a hunk, he is the definition of a hunk, and y'all can't debate me on this! Eric is my favorite Disney prince and I just love him so much because he is just so nice, loving, loves sailing and is an overall selfless guy. Eric is so cute and hot at the same time <<<333

What are some unpopular animation opinions you have
Off the top of my head:
We should go back to cel animation. I keep seeing the push for hand drawn to return and I totally agree, but I still think the hand drawn animation I saw in the 2000s was incredibly flat and didn't offer a depth of color that the original cel animated features did. Also, there's just a different energy and it's so much more human when it's made by a human hand!
Disney 3D animated features feature incredible art when it comes to the landscaping but its human animation is disturbing. I think the Shrek movies and even the Barbie movies of the early 2000s all have better human animation than seen in films like Tangled, Frozen, or Moana.
The Disney Renaissance was an INCREDIBLE time for animation, and one of my favorites, but it's far from the best era. I think this period indicated a shift in making the writing and storylines much, much more masculine with a heavy focus on male characters and women who appeal to patriarchal values. I think the Renaissance was an incredible age of exploration, but we should've continued progressing, we shouldn't still be looking back at it as the peak of animation.
I think Snow White and Cinderella have much more appealing and realistic designs than any of the characters from the 90s onward. Also, not sure if this is an animation opinion, but I know this is super unpopular- I think Snow White has one of the best voices in all of Disney and Rapunzel has the worst by far.
I love Glen Keane and he's one of the ultimate animators in my book! His work on Ariel, Aladdin, and Prince Adam are unparalleled. However, I think his design work on films like Tarzan and Tangled seem a little tired and aren't as unique.
Andreas Deja is as iconic as Marc Davis was, in a different way of course, but he never gets the recognition he deserves- especially when compared to a Mark Henn.
I think Disney stopped being Disney years ago and all the modern movies of the 3D age are essentially just spoofs of Dreamworks. I wish they would allow Dreamworks to be Dreamworks and Disney would go back to honoring its roots as opposed to trying to be something they aren't and going against the integrity of the company.
The animated movies today (Turning Red, Frozen, Tangled, Moana namely) are incredibly infantilized and don't honor Walt's wish of making films for adults/films that can go up against other contemporary films of the time, and not just make films for twelve year olds.
Also, I know many prefer hand drawn animation so this isn't unpopular BUT this quote by Marc Davis makes me so sad considering the state of these movies today: "Animation is an anachronism. It is that rarity- a handmade product in a mechanized age."

WDAS TAGTEAM REVIEWS MOVIE #60: ENCANTO (2021)
Encanto! Or as I like to call it: Monster House The Good Ending
Sixty films in, and WDAS is still making musicals. If any other studio made mostly musicals, I gotta say they probably wouldn’t last. Disney just has a great way of doing these sort of things that others have a difficult time replicating consistently.
Ok, so we’re several movies into this inconsistently ongoing marathon, so I’ll try to keep this as short as I can. This movie was pretty darn good!
The plot was fun for the most part, and I loved the concepts that this world presented. Its got that X-Men/My Hero Academia way of portraying people with superpowers, but as a musical.
(Note to self: Begin writing X-Men musical)
The one thing I would say I didn’t enjoy about the plot would be that I don’t think that family should have gotten their magic powers and house back at the end. It made all their work seem pointless to me.
The visuals were beautiful, and I liked how vibrant the colors were. I didn’t hate Raya, but that film had a distinct love for beige that this film thankfully avoids.
I do think Disney needs to change how their CG characters look. I feel like ever since Tangled, they haven’t really made any efforts to make their human characters distinct between films. I still LIKE these designs, don’t get me wrong, but it’s getting a little repetitive.
Look at movies like Spider-Verse or Luca, Sony and Pixar are really making an effort to make each movie look different compared to each other in the character design department.
The characters here are great though, especially since there are so many of them! Mirabel is a great protagonist, and you really want to see her succeed. Bruno was probably my favorite. I like when threatening characters are revealed to just be big softies after all the buildup.
Finally, the music from LMM is great. He knows the formula to a successful Disney musical score and he takes full advantage of it.
One thing though, almost every musical number in this movie except for the finale is a dream/fantasy sequence. I know that you can do a lot more with animation, but I would’ve liked to see maybe a little more restraint.
But overall, I was entertained! I was certainly more engaged with this one than I was with Raya, but that’s probably cause I’m a sucker for musicals. I’ll definitely watch this one again cause I know I probably missed some of the small details.
8/10
