This Tang Dynasty tomb horse has suffered its last fractured leg. In its long life, it has suffered quite a few repairs. After completing the restoration of this piece the client agreed to letting me fabricate a mount. 🐎 I designed an internal compression mount to allow the horse to ever so slightly hover above the heavy steel base plate. This coupled with an extremely lower center of gravity has now finally set my mind at ease. And now whatever ancient Chinese lord whose tomb this is from can gallop safely through the afterlife. You're welcome m'lord. Giddy up. 🐎 ⚒️ 🐎 ⚒️ 🐎 #SparkandAnvil #mountmaking #mountmaker #museumwork #museumlife #arthandler #arthandlerlife #preparator #sculpture #Conservation #restoration #artrestoration #artconservation #tangdynasty #tanghorse #terracotta #seismic #seismicdesign #seismicmitigation (at San Diego, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/CVmWL-LlN5X/?utm_medium=tumblr

ASIA WEEK NEW YORK 2019 May be officially shuttered until 2020; when again the excitement builds, the Asian galleries gather from all over the world with beautiful pieces, the connoisseurs and collectors reconvene, the curators and historians grace us with their knowledge, and the auctions make our hearts race. the New York based galleries will have wonderful shows all year long. The final success of this year is still unknown with some galleries continuing their exhibitions, but the initial sales amount to over $150,000,000. This does not include 5 galleries that continue their exhibitions, and iGavel which continues their auctions into mid April. It is always exciting when Asia Week Commences, and in New York we are lucky to have permanent galleries dedicated to Asian art. Applause all around to the Asia Week team who made this 10th Anniversary year particularly spectacular. Tang Dynasty (618-907) A glazed pottery figure of an attentive saddled horse. Cream white glaze with pale yellowish tint, mane and forelock splashed with amber brown, saddle and blanket unglazed showing extensive remains of original cinnabar red. Last month this poor Tang Dynasty tomb horse was brought to me in several pieces. She took a nasty fall and her brittle terracotta legs, ear, and base shattered. There were many old repairs that needed to be reversed as well. But today, this horse will run again in the afterlife! 🐴 🏃 🐴 🏃 🐴 #SparkandAnvil #Conservation #restoration #tangdynasty #tanghorse #tanghorses #tombhorse #sculpture #sculpturerepair (at San Diego, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/CFxZbZRDF6G/?igshid=1bznr668b9kbo
