This Tang Dynasty tomb horse has suffered its last fractured leg. In its long life, it has suffered quite a few repairs. After completing the restoration of this piece the client agreed to letting me fabricate a mount. 🐎 I designed an internal compression mount to allow the horse to ever so slightly hover above the heavy steel base plate. This coupled with an extremely lower center of gravity has now finally set my mind at ease. And now whatever ancient Chinese lord whose tomb this is from can gallop safely through the afterlife. Tonight after work I had a side job tweaking a mount for a saber tooth skull. Definitely a highlight moment to hold aloft such a thing. My imagination quickly painted flesh upon that grisly form and small hairs rose as primal fears percolated in my lizard brain. Full disclosure, this is not it, nor is it my photograph. This is an image (that I cropped and tweaked) to stir similar emotions in you. The skull I worked on was from a private collector and I thought it unbecoming to take and publicly post photos. I keep my stelo tight and my reputation of discretion tighter. Good for business if you will. Still, such a great way to end the day.
