it’s the way jiang cheng could not accept yanli and wei wuxian’s sacrifices, the way he could not fathom their selflessness because each of their actions were viewed by him through a very self-centric lens–in that, how does wei wuxian taking a stand for the remaining wens affect him, affect jiang cheng? how does yanli giving up her life for wei wuxian affect him, affect jiang cheng? it’s always about him, his feelings, his anger, his grief, his sense of abandonment. the problem here is that yeah, he loved his sister and yes, he did care for wei wuxian but what are these words worth when he could not allow them to make their own choices and respect those choices? what does it mean that he’d rather try to slash wen ning’s corpse and throw the wens under the bus because he doesn’t want wei wuxian to remain in the burial mounds and see what comes after? what does it mean that jiang cheng could not digest yanli’s sacrifice and never bothered to tell jin ling about the truth of his mother’s death, letting her son continue to hate the man she gave up her life for, out of love at that?

jiang cheng never respected what was most important to wei wuxian and clung to his idea of what he thought would be best for wei wuxian. thing is, if wei wuxian had backed out, had left the wens, in some impossible hypothetical universe––he would never be able to live with himself again. saving and supporting the wens was extremely important to wei wuxian. similarly, if yanli ever got a do-over, she would still save wei wuxian and give up her life because that is what she believed in, that is what her love for him compelled her to do. and in both instances, jiang cheng could not let go of his own reactionary emotions to their decisions to respect what these decisions represented.

he spit on both their sacrifices: let the lies about yanli’s death breed hatred for wei wuxian and led the siege to the burial mounds to kill the very people wei wuxian risked his life to protect. and for both these instances, the fandom has spoken ad nauseam about how it’s understandable for jiang cheng to feel abandoned, that he is always “left behind”. but did he ever have the courage to truly stick by them? stick by them, even in memory, even in their ideals, even in their last living and dying wishes?

everyone can have their own headcanons that are fun to them etc. etc. and the gomens tv show characters are not the same as their book counterparts, and it is entirely reasonable to extrapolate from the canon given in the show etc. etc.

HOWEVER, since gos2 did NOT in fact give crowley a snack, I do feel the need to tap the sign:

I'm wildly curious, which if any of the big TOH twists did you see coming? Philip, Lilith as the one who cursed Eda, King's memories being fake, the Titan-Trappers being cosplayers, that sort of thing… (and of course the big one re: Hunter & Grimwalkers.)

i saw lilith cursing eda 100%. i knew that philip was going to end up Relevant to the main plot in some way, but i didn't clock exactly How until elsewhere and elsewhen. i guessed that belos might be human based on his cut ears in eclipse lake.... i didn't put together or understand the grimwalker thing (or the philip-and-his-brother thing) until rafi explained it to me after we watched hollow mind, EVEN THOUGH my brother had been texting me telling me to "pay attention" to the clues at the beginning of eclipse lake and at other points in the series. absolutely didn't even QUESTION that tarrlok was king's dad (or at least related to him).

there WERE a lot of other things i predicted.... except they were all related to characterization, not plot. i'd written fanfic scenes with luz calling hunter family and promising to protect him LOOOONG before TTT or any TTT previews came out. i predicted that luz and hunter were going to switch archetypes & that luz was going to have negative character development between s2 and TTT. i clocked REALLY early that amity's parents were abusive and that she missed willow & didn't actually have ill will toward her. i remember thinking "oh, i'd love to see willow fall apart, but i know she's the Support Friend so they won't actually go there" and then they went there.

when it comes to characterization, character arcs, and relationship dynamics, i'm Really Good at guessing where things are going. just based on the clues we've seen in the canon.

when it comes to plot elements based on similarly obvious clues?? Hopeless. Absolutely Hopeless.

grGRSH rollins vs reigns 2022 is genuinely my favorite match (which does say more about how new i am to wrestling more than anything else, disregard that) because the storytelling in it is just SO unbelievably good

obviously, seth coming out to the shield theme and shield attire. god what a piece of shit, i love his stupid smile the whole time. he knows what he's doing and he loves it

him powerbombing Roman into the table

him offering the shield salute to Roman while literally unable to get to his feet

him SAYING "i'll always love you" reads as such a. desperate attempt at manipulation that just ends up showing so much more of his hand. and it's especially good after Roman told him he hated him in a prior promo grRRH

again obviously, the ending: with roman literally refusing to let seth out of the guillotine while saying that it's seth that won't let him go because roman has never been the one seth felt like he needed to apologize to, he's the one that's never been able to process and heal and move on

roman hitting seth with the chair; the way seth falls onto the ropes in the exact same way roman did 8 years ago

the way roman leaves, but then COMES BACK TO HIT SETH AGAIN LIKE HE JUST CAN'T HELP HIMSELF. like he was trying to be the controlled leader of his family but the idea of finally punishing seth for all those years of bottled up hatred was too enticing

So I've had my own little Pokémon AU floating around in my head since I picked Pokémon Crystal back up recently.

Context: For some reason, ever since I was little, I've always named my Pokémon character "Sammy", "Sammi", "Sami", or something like that. My name is not any of these. I don't know why I did this other than letting myself flip-flop genders between games.

But! Now that I've had Doctor Who festering in my brain, AND all the cool lore with Legends Arceus in there too, I've been looking at my protagonists differently. Basically answering for myself why some random 12-year-old kid can run around and catch legendaries and destroy massive crime organizations with the answer of: they aren't random.

Also I wanted to explore a sort-of Timeless Child idea in a Pokémon setting.
