An outfit called Hochi News has reported that Kota Ibushi tweeted out yesterday  that his initial diagnosis of type-A influenza was not accurate, and indeed he is suffering from what’s called Mallory-Weiss syndrome. According to Wikipedia:

Mallory–Weiss syndrome or gastro-esophageal laceration syndrome refers to bleeding from a laceration in the mucosa at the junction of the stomach and esophagus. This is usually caused by severe vomiting because of alcoholism or bulimia,[1] but can be caused by any condition which causes violent vomiting and retching such as food poisoning. The syndrome presents with hematemesis. The laceration is sometimes referred to as a Mallory-Weiss tear. 

Sounds pretty nasty, and there is a chance that a flu could bring this about. Whatever the case, it appears he may be out of the New Beginning tour entirely, meaning whatever program he and Hiroshi Tanahashi were going to have with Juice Robinson & David Finlay Jr. is effectively iced at this point. We hope Ibushi recovers well, whatever his malady is.

Meanwhile, the Stateside version of The New Beginning tour continues to be snakebit, as it was reported earlier today that LA Dojo Young Lion Karl Fredericks has suffered a shoulder injury, and will be missing the rest of this tour now too. So naturally, more card shuffling has occured. Tonight’s show just ended a little bit ago in Durham, North Kakalaka.

In-between the 3rd and 4th matches, new Ring of Honor booker Marty Scurll made a surprise appearance, ostensibly to challenge Jay White (who of course is not on this tour) to a match at Supercard of Honor XIV during Mania Weekend. So here is a much more public, in-ring overture of ROH still trying to keep the relationship with NJPW alive. Of course, Scurll has also gone on record saying he wants to maintain this relationship, as well as build relationships between ROH, the NWA and AEW as well, so we’ll see if Scurll is as good a diplomat as he is lazy as a wrestler.

The Road to the New Beginning tour continues in Japan tomorrow, whilst the New Beginning USA takes a couple of days off, returning on Thursday, back in Florida, with a match that should be a hoot, with Toru Yano & Colt Cabana going against the Rock & Roll Express.
