This is a video clip of a crew on a workover rig trying to cap the blowout. The fluid you see rushing out of the well is actually oil and not drilling mud. Guess what? Behind me is a gas blowout with sand and cement. OK, how did we get this huge heap of sand all over the rig and substructure? Back in 2010, at the Onado field in Venezuela, just after cementing the intermediate casing, the cement got contaminated with gas from a nearby gas injector. This resulted in cement channelling and poor cement seal between casing and borehole wall. Unaware of this problem, we released casing thinking cement job provided sufficient bond, but 5 hours after releasing casing and starting to cut conductor pipe, the casing couldn't hold and ran down 2 feet deeper into the well. All hell was let loose and the well started spitting out sand and cement. We had a blowout. After shutting down the gas injector the well was killed. We later found out that the casing surrounding the gas injector well had corroded over time and this resulted in gas from the injector communicating with the drilled well. #storyofmylife #drillersclub @talkoilandgas @lfavia _____________________________________ Got a story to tell with your photo? _____________________________________

This derrick and other topsides were lifted and placed on the four legs of the floating rig, then towed to the deepwater location in the Gulf of Mexico. #oilandgas #drillingrig #oilfield #offshore #olympus #shell
