Kagami, you adroable little nerd, take it from Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun, getting advice from a manga is not always a good idea. You could end up basically dating someone you really can’t stand and not even know it
Also, when you practice flirting with a friend, your friend may come in dressed in bunny ears and your other friend may come and demand money

I don't know if cute girls are all waifu because to me "waifu" is a female characters who's principally used to hype up a show all by herself while if they didn't capitalize on them being waifu the male characters would appear as much For example Zero Two and how she play in darlifra is a perfect example of this to me
But then I would advice you to watch more slice of life show. That really give you a different pace than what you usually see. I would recommend on the top of my head (not only slice of life show then) :
Rokuhodo Yotsuiro Biyori
Kimi to Boku
Gintama (this anime? A mess. And the women are definitely not waifu material on the traditional sense lol)
Kemono no Souja Erin
Seirei no moribito
Orange ( the heroine will sound typical of shojo manga at first but she really fit with the theme of the story)
Psycho Pass
Shiki
Death Parade (why didn't I immediately thought about this one is beyond me)
Osomatsu San (kind of hit or miss show, definitely hit with me)
Gekkan Shojo nozaki kun
Shounen Hollywood
Natsume yuujinchou
Amaama to inazuma
Barakamon
Poco udon world
My roommate is a cat
Mushishi (this one is really out of the box so I would recommend trying it first if you really want something different)
And I think it's already a lot so I will stop here :D
I am used to dig and search for underrated show, it's like being a treasure hunter to me, even though right now I read more manga than I watch anime
Thank you for taking the time to make this list of recommendations. I have taken note in my notebook, I will give it a try when I have some time.

Are You Bored Yet? by Wallows (ft. Clairo)

Through the Summer and the Fall // Haikyuu!! Songfic Series
a/n: Hello hello! I didn’t expect this big of a response for my series and Asahi songfic, but thank you all for the support 🥺 as promised, I have delivered a hopefully good dadchi fic featuring just deadass a scene from Monthly Girl’s Nozaki-Kun because I just want a second season 😌 I hope you all have been doing well!! The next insert I will be posting will be with Iwa-chan 🥰 I also try to make my fics as gender neutral as possible! But sometimes I slip without noticing it, so if you see a she or her in there, please just let me know kindly and I shall fix it!
Warnings: maybe like really light angst? and just Suga being his matchmaking self as per usual~
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Daichi stared at you from the sidelines as the team took a small water break before their post-practice stretch. The boys had been practicing since the morning because school wasn’t in session for the summer. Not to mention, the Star Festival was tonight - so Coach Ukai decided to let them out earlier than usual in the afternoon so they could join the festivities before sunset hit. Daichi was too late to react as your eyes met his, and his cheeks reddened slightly as he was caught staring at you. Noticing how red he had gotten, you jogged over and handed him his water bottle.
“Dai-san, you’re looking a little red. Are you okay?” He heard genuine concern in your voice, and he couldn't help but smile at your kindness.
“Yeah, just a bit tired since it's so hot, that's all.” Grabbing the bottle from your hands, he thanked you as he rubbed the nape of his neck sheepishly.
“Is everything okay? You seemed a bit out of it today.” Daichi’s eyes widened at your question - but he wasn’t surprised by it. You could read him like an open book, but you were completely blind to his feelings for you.
“Everything’s fine! I’m fine. I guess I’ve just been thinking about tonight.” You smiled at him, taking the answer. You could tell something was bothering him, but you decided against pushing him for the actual answer for now.
"What's wrong?" you've been askin'
But I don't have an answer
While getting ready, you couldn’t help but think about Daichi - what was going on with him? You had been close friends with him since Suga introduced the two of you in your first year - and you knew almost everything about him. If Suga didn’t take first place in being your best friend, it would’ve been Daichi. Even though the both of you had only met almost three years ago, when you’re with him, it feels like you’ve known him forever. So why couldn’t you pinpoint why he was acting strange around you?
And why didn’t he want to tell you?
Sighing, you finished fixing your face and hair, giving yourself one last look in the mirror before putting on your yukata, your mom helping you perfect the obi across your waist. Promising her that you’d take lots of photos, you walked out your door and made your way to Suga’s house - you were neighbors and childhood friends after all. During the half-an-hour walk to the festival square, you took the initiative to ask Suga about Daichi’s mood - maybe he knew.
“Daichi-san has been acting weird? What makes you say that?” He asked, a light smile on his face.
“I don’t know. I didn’t really think of it as a big issue until today. The past week, I just thought that maybe he was more tired than usual… but now, I feel like he’s just trying to avoid me - or at least, avoid talking to me.” Suga hummed in response. He saw the way you tried to hide the hurt look from showing in your eyes, a frown still creeping onto your face. He smirked at the phone call he had with his friend while getting ready.
How come, I'm still thinkin'
Let's pretend to fall asleep now
“Suga-san, what do I do?” He could feel the panic in Daichi’s voice. Rolling his eyes playfully, Suga answered the captain’s question.
“Baka, we’ve been talking about this for a whole month, Daichi-san.”
“That’s not the point! What happens if they reject me? That's literally three years of friendship down the drain because of me.” If they had been having this conversation face-to-face, Suga would’ve chopped him in the side so hard.
“First of all, what makes you think they’ll reject you?”
“Well - ” Suga cut him off.
“And second of all, why are you assuming they’re going to stop being your friend even if they do reject you? I didn't know you thought they were that shallow, Dai-san.” Suga smirked after he finished talking - he knew he had Daichi in checkmate.
“I - I don’t think they’re shallow! I just… Ugh! I hate that you’re always right.” He could practically see the annoyed look on Daichi’s face, making him giggle.
“I know. So are you going to confess to them tonight?”
“I - I don’t know.” The setter’s eyes formed slits as he squinted.
“If you don’t, I will tell them.” Suga was definitely lying - he wasn’t the type person (or friend, for that matter) to do that. While he was invested in the romantic lives of his friends and teammates, his dream being the ultimate matchmaker, he hoped that Daichi wouldn’t call his bluff. Luckily, the captain didn’t.
When we get old will we regret this
Too young to think about all that shit
“Perhaps you should ask him about it tonight. It’s better to just ask instead of letting the situation fester for longer.” He advised.
“Hmm, you’re right. Thank you Suga-kun.” He nodded at you, his smile lifting your mood. Now only if that damn Daichi would take his advice -
“What has got you so worked up about Daichi’s mood anyhow, if I may ask?” Your eyes widened at his question, not expecting it.
“Well, I - to be honest, I’m not really sure why. I just don’t like that I feel like he’s avoiding me.” That idiot, Suga thought.
“Why don’t you like that?” Suga pushed, interested in questioning you further. He always had the inklings of a hunch that you returned Daichi’s feelings, but you had never expressed it. It made him wonder if you maybe just hadn’t realized it.
“I don’t really know. Wouldn’t you be a little upset if your best friend started avoiding you? I guess I just don’t want to lose him.” There it was.
“Why?”
“Why are you asking so many questions?”
And stallin' only goes so far
When you've got a head start
“Why are you avoiding answering them?” You rolled your eyes at the playful smirk on his lips.
“I hate when you do this.”
“I’m only trying to help ~ but why don’t you want to lose him? And don’t tell me it's just because he’s your best friend. Besides me, of course.” He sent you a wink.
“Well…” Suga brought up a good point. Why were you so upset by it? Usually when Daichi had bad weeks, he acted the same - but he always told you what was wrong. “I don’t want to lose him because I care about him.” The both of you were walking down the river, nearing your destination. Suga said nothing as you collected your thoughts, the both of you stopping for a short while to stare at the river.
“He’s always there for me, you know? Like I know that you’re always there for me, and I love you. But with Dai-san… I feel like I just can’t pinpoint it and it frustrates me so much! All I know is that I want to be by his side for as long as possible.” Much to your surprise, the setter laughed, making your eyebrows scrunch in response.
“What?”
“God, you are so blind. It’s rather endearing, really.” You just glared at the silver-haired boy. “You’re in love with him, idiot.” Suga saw the way your eyes widened, the way your cheeks reddened, and the way your jaw slacked. He took your silence as a realization, and continued.
“Why don’t you spend time with Daichi tonight?” Your wide eyes met his.
“Like… alone? But - what about you? And Azu-san? And Nishin - ” you were cut off as he flicked your forehead.
“Don’t worry about us, silly. Take your time tonight and see him in this new light - it’s not like you haven’t been alone with him before. I’m just surprised you didn’t realize it sooner.”
'Cause we could stay at home and watch the sunset
But I can't help from asking are you bored yet?
When the both of you met up with the other boys, you noticed the way your breath seemed to hitch in your chest when you laid eyes on Daichi - how long had you been blind to your own feelings? The captain was wearing a navy blue yukata, white outlines of waves, koi, and scales patterning the ends of his sleeves and at bottom half of the lower portion. He looked so handsome in the afternoon sun. The boys were preoccupied with one another, giving Daichi the opportunity to speak to you without the seemingly prying eyes of his nosey children teammates.
“How are you? I know I just saw you only a few hours ago, but - ”
“I’m doing good! I - how are you feeling, Dai-san?” He blushed at your question.
“I’m doing good too. Um - I think you look really good…” As the two of you trailed into an awkward conversation for the first time in the history of your friendship, Suga rolled his eyes as he eavesdropped on the two of you.
And if you're feelin' lonely you should tell me
Before this ends up as another memory
“Suga-san, is it just me, or are the two of them acting a bit weird?” While Asahi directed the question to his setter, the rest of the boys all thought it was a good idea to shut up and look at the two of you - to find both of you with blushes on your cheeks, Daichi with his hand rubbing the nape of his neck. Before Suga could answer, Nishinoya spoke up.
“Yeah, why aren’t they over here?” He began yelling. “Oi, Dai - ” Suga immediately chopped his kouhai on the head, shushing him. The vice-captain then glared at the rest of the second and first years.
“None of you will interrupt them, understand? And I mean the whole night. I’m trying to get them to confess to one another, and I don’t need any one of you idiots to ruin their chances!” Suga heard Tsukishima tsk.
“Lame. I thought they were already dating. Yamaguchi and I won’t be in your way.” On the other hand, Hinata had resorted to hitting Kageyama in shock, the blocker’s eyes wide and mouth on the floor. Asahi laughed as Suga folded his arms, making sure the others knew what to not do.
“I guess everything all makes a little more sense now.”
Will you tell the truth so I don't have to lie
Will you tell the truth so I don't have to lie
While the majority of the team hung out as a group, the boys made sure to leave the two of you with as much space as possible. At an origami tent, the boys were fooling around, attempting to make impossible shapes out of the paper. While you were deeply focused on folding a crane that would be hung as decor, Daichi paid attention to a poster hanging from the tent that explained the different meanings of origami folds and the different colors.
He kept running various situations through his head - all of them ending badly. What if you just wanted to be his friend? Should he ask you how you felt first? If you said something about how reliable he was of a friend, then he could just lie about how you were just his good friend too. Then he could mope and move on. He just wished you could tell him.
As you finished your crane, you looked up to find Daichi slipping his folding into a pocket. As his eyes met yours, a blush grew on your face. Had his doe eyes always been so mesmerising?
Feels like I've known you my whole life
I can see right through your lies
“I’m still a little hungry, and the sun looks like it’s starting to set. Do you want to get something else to eat?” He asked you, standing up from his seat. Nodding your head in response, you stood up and followed in step with him, the two of you leaving the comfortability of the team, finding yourselves lined up to buy dango. As you ordered, you were about to hand the vendor the yen when Daichi interrupted.
“Make that two please. Thank you!” He handed the vendor the appropriate amount of money before turning to you, a blush on his cheeks. “My treat, okay?” Unable to form words, you nodded as you waited for the dessert to be ready.
“Thank you for the dango, Dai-san. You didn’t have to.” You couldn't help the pink tint that was staining your cheeks as the two of you began to walk away.
“Don’t worry about it. Let’s walk by the river before the fireworks, come on.” Daichi wasn’t sure if it was the sweetness in the dessert that gave him the confidence and energy, but he grabbed your hand and led you to the walkway.
You felt like your hand was on fire. You didn’t even know what to say! You were so taken aback by the way Daichi’s hand enveloped yours perfectly. You had almost forgotten about the dessert he bought you - you were too focused on admiring him. He looked so good in the light - the way the last golden rays hit his face and changed his eye color from a deep mocha to a honeyed gold. As his eyes suddenly met yours, Daichi couldn’t help but smile - there was something about holding your hand that made all his worries disappear. You returned his smile before quickly averting your gaze to watch the sun meet the horizon - you tried your best to distract yourself by eating the dango and staring into the landscape.
I don't know where we're goin'
But I'd like to be by your side
Daichi couldn’t help but stare at you as you watched the sunset. He felt like he was falling in love with you all over again as he watched the way your skin seemed to glow in the fading light. He blushed as he saw you take a bite out of your dessert - thinking about how he wished he could feel your just as sweet lips on his own. Finishing your last bite, you turned to find him still looking at you - not that you knew he never stopped.
“Daichi-san, what's wrong? Is there something on my face?” Immediately, Daichi’s eyes widened as he shook his head side to side rather adamantly.
“No, no! There’s nothing wrong.” There was an awkward silence as you two stared at one another, not really understanding what to do or what to say. But finally, he spoke up again. “The fireworks are going to start soon, should we find a better spot?” All you could do was nod as he tugged your hand and led you away.
Daichi weaved between the growing crowd until the two of you reached the children’s playground, which was seemingly empty. Motioning for you to climb onto the metal jungle gym, your eyes widened. Your mom had tied your obi rather tight - and your yukata was a lot more movement-restricting than his.
“Dai-san, I don’t think I’m going to be able to climb on it. We can get on the swings, though.” Shaking his head, Daichi replied. “Nonsense, I’ll help you.” The top of the metal bars just passed your head, so you were curious as to how he could help.
You weren’t expecting Daichi to grasp your waist with his hands, gripping your hips tightly and lifting you up with ease, allowing you to sit on the small platform the bars made. You were glad the sun was just about gone by this time - you knew your face was beet red, but you found yourself immediately missing the way his hands felt on you as you looked down at him. He climbed up easily, settling down next to you. It felt like such a long time before either of you talked.
If you could tell me how you're feelin'
Maybe we'd get through this undefeated
“Daichi-san,” you started, staring down at your hands as the brunette looked over at you, “What’s wrong?” You met his eyes, and his heart panged at the hurt look in your eyes.
“What do you mean? Nothing’s wr - ” you cut him off.
“Can you just tell the truth? I don’t want to lie and keep on pretending like everything’s okay.” Daichi sighed, his eyes flitting around your face before staring at the now dark sky. He wished he could wait for the fireworks, but he knew you were expecting an answer.
“Aren’t you bored yet? Of being friends?” Your eyes grew wide at his questions, and you felt your heart shatter as tears began to fill your eyes. Of course - that's why he was acting so weird. Daichi didn’t want to be your friend anymore. He wanted to spend one last happy memory with you before he shut you out of his life. You turned away immediately before he could see the tears stream down your face.
Holdin' on for so long, oh
“Oh, I see.” You tried your best to remain calm, but your voice betrayed you as it wavered. Daichi’s eyes widened - you were crying because of what he said. Gently grabbing your hand, he quickly tried to explain himself, saying your name over and over again.
“No, no, no, that's not what I meant to say - I mean, I did mean to say that, but not in that way! Not - ” you cut him off again, looking at him once again. His heart broke as he looked at the tears that slowly fell down your face.
“Then what did you mean to say?”
“I… I meant to say… Ugh!” Daichi’s hands flew up to run through his hair in frustration before he turned back to you. He had to tell you now or never.
“I’m trying to tell you that I - ” the night sky lit up with fireworks of all colors and sizes, their booms filling the air, cancelling out what he was telling you. You couldn't even understand what words his lips were forming. You stared at him in confusion, your eyebrows furrowing.
Daichi looked at you expectantly, but all you could do was ask a loud “what?” You hadn’t heard him. Sighing, a small smile coming to his lips - of course you didn’t hear him, the fireworks were so damn loud, and he couldn't help but chuckle at the irony of you not hearing him. You looked so cute when you were confused too.
Leaning down, Daichi moved his head right next to yours - you shivered and turned red as you felt his breath tickle your ear. You heard him this time almost loud and clear, even when he spoke your name at a normal volume right in your ear.
“I don’t want to be just your friend. I love you.” Daichi pulled away just enough to look at your face. Your lips were parted, a surprised look on your face.
'Cause we could stay at home and watch the sunset
But I can't help from asking are you bored yet?
“Dai-san…” You didn't even know what to say or what to do - his eyes were so mesmerizing, and you were so shocked by his confession that you couldn’t even tell him you felt the same way. Daichi smiled, knowing you like the back of his hand. He saw the way your pupils dilated and the heavy blush that rested on your cheeks. He definitely should’ve told you sooner.
Leaning in once again, his lips hovered just centimeters from yours - seeing if you would move way or not. When you didn’t move away after a few seconds, Daichi closed the gap between your lips, kissing you as gently yet as passionately as he could convey. It only took you a second to reciprocate, and your lips moved against his as the fireworks in the sky and in your heart exploded furiously. Pulling away so you both could catch your breaths, you made your confession.
And if you're feelin' lonely you should tell me
Before this ends up as another memory
“Daichi, I love you too.” His eyes widened at your confession and he cupped your face in both his hands, his thumbs tracing your jawline as he pulled you into a desperate kiss. One hand moved to pull your waist closer and your hands moved up to rest on his chest and at the nape of his neck. As his lips moulded with yours perfectly, Daichi wished the moment would last forever.

BONUS
The next day, the boys were surprised when you brought them freshly baked cookies as a treat for their lunch break. The excited first and second years eagerly thanked you as you each gave them two cookies. Daichi held a loving look in his eyes as he watched you from just a few meters away - and when your eyes met his, he gave you a smitten smile.
“I assume things worked out well? I never got a text from either of you last night.” Daichi turned to find Suga next to him, hand on his hip with a playful glare on his face. The captain’s smile only grew wider as his eyes wandered to look at you again.
“Yeah, they did.” But his mood immediately turned dark when Tanaka and Nishinoya started obsessing over you and the fact that you baked for them - their shouts and cries filling the gym.
“OI, TANAKA, NISHINOYA, BOKE! GET YOUR DIRTY HANDS OFF MY LOVE!”
The captain didn’t hesitate to pull you away from the rowdy second years, everyone’s eyes wide open as Daichi held his most intimidating face. However, he immediately softened up and lost the face completely when you placed a gentle kiss on his cheek.
“WOOOOHHHHHH! Senpai, you should kiss Daichi-san at practice more often! He’s way less scary!”

Self Care Tag Game!! <3
I got tagged by @renwritesstuff! They know I’m weak for a good tag game!
I’m tagging folks! @saitamastamaticsoup @compromised-emotionally @dustybites @lonelysoulbutakindheart @the-eh-team @quietstorm-thundathighs @beanarie
Favorite comfort food: Saltines and I’m picky so they better be Nabisco’s Premium Unsalted Saltines. The ones in the green box. The ones in the blue are salted and the brown are wheat..
Favorite drink: Water. Ice cold water, especially when I’ve eaten my favorite snack food.
Favorite relaxing activity: Sleeping. All I want to do when I’m stressed or depressed is sleep. I try to dream so I don’t have to worry about anything. If not that dancing badly.
Favorite fluffy/feel good fic: Oh! I can’t pick! You need to narrow it down to a fandom. Currently in Mass Effect fandom it’s these two series, Queen’s Gambit Accepted & A Sea of Stars. Samantha Traynor/Commander Shepard & Ashley Williams/Commander Shepard.
Favorite calming scent: Fresh cut grass & rain in my homestate (it has a specific smell).
Favorite white noise: Not sure if I have a favorite. I tend to fall asleep to talking because otherwise I start to feel alone. When I do want ambient noise, I tend to listen to either church bells in the distance or thunderstorms.
Favorite relaxing (or uplifting) song: Oh... ummm... it varies... recently if I miss home I’ll listen to Here by JUNNA. It makes me feel like I’m home & not so alone.
Favorite book to get lost in: This is so kiddy, but my absolute favorite book to reread (takes less than five minutes) is Mercer Mayer’s Just A Nap. It was my favorite as a kid and just rereading it just makes me smile. It’s the nostalgia of it, I think.
Favorite TV show to chill-out: Ummm... Lucky Star? Remember I fall asleep to shows so really anything that I like in general. I’ve been rewatching Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-Kun which was a mistake because I laugh too much and can’t sleep, but it’s fun!
The best advice you’ve ever had: “Friends come and go like seasons.” (I have really bad fears of abandonment, so saying that makes me feel better. My mom told me about it.)

17, 18, 21 and 30.
17. What is the worst part of being aromantic?
Definitely having to deal with amatonormativity wherever your turn. Also knowing that all of your friendships as they are have an expiration date... I think that’s the most difficult thing to cope with. It is for me, anyway.
18. What is the best part of being aromantic?
Being able to see the world and interact with people without the awkward loom of romance and wayward crushes getting in the way. Also amatonormativity can’t catch me and I feel free as a bird, it’s great.
21. Do you have any aromantic headcanons?
SO MANY. Basically here’s a small list of characters I HC as arospec:
- Merida from Brave (romance repulsed)
- Ichimatsu and sometimes Karamatsu from Osomatsu-San.
- Euden and Melsa from Dragalia Lost.
- Yami Yugi/Pharaoh Atem from Yu-Gi-Oh!
- Nozaki from Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki Kun
- Bender from Futurama (he’s greyro)
30. Do you have any advice for anyone who may be questioning if they are aromantic or on the aromantic spectrum?
Don’t Panic. Some of the first thoughts that go through your head when you begin questioning might be “oh God, what if I’m going to be alone forever?”. Trust me, I’ve been there. But it’s okay. Don’t kneejerk it and start fretting. Take a deep breath, take a step back, and let yourself digest this new information. It can be difficult at the start, I myself refused to accept it for a full year because I was so afraid, but it gets easier with time. Even if it turns out you’re not arospec, that’s great! Just don’t panic~
Also, don’t force yourself to start looking for excuses why you might be or might not be aro. Your heart will tell you what it wants and what it doesn’t want. I see a lot of young people thinking they should have a go at having a relationship or wait til they find someone they MIGHT develop a crush on before they decide if they’re ACTUALLY arospec. If you feel in your heart of hearts that that’s something you really want for yourself, then that’s great! But if not, don’t push yourself into a situation you’re not 100% on board with. Dating can be scary and even dangerous, and I don’t want to see anyone putting themselves into harmful situations just for an answer to a question they probably already know. Your heart will tell you. Be kind to yourself and give yourself time to figure it out. Take as long as you need. There’s help and support out here for you.

19, 26 and 68 for the number questions thing :D hello, by the way!
Hello there @goldensun13!!! I hope this isn’t too late lol sorry it took a while, I honestly didn’t expect anyone to ask. LOL. Here is your reward:
19. favorite fictional characters?I always find this so difficult to answer because I’m like “I don’t even read enough books to know this” but I always forget I can use TV characters. Lmao.I would protect each one of the Strawhats from One Piece with my fuckin’ LIFE (well, a fictional life where I exist there anyway) and I also really love Sarada Uchiha, who deserves more always. and Rukia from Bleach. Mikoboshi on Gekkan Shojou no Nozaki-kun. oh jeez I probably could keep going. I like characters a lot, even though I don’t really relate to many of them at all.
26. favorite desserts?give me cookie dough ice cream all day, motherfucker. I will eat it down until I accidentally take a bite out of the container. I also really like Jello like at Chinese buffets (like I went to tonight... I am so fucking satisfied)
68. what advice would you give to your 13 year old self?after high school, go to work first, then move to Florida, THEN go to college if you can/want to. It would have changed... well, let’s just say it would have changed enough.

Tsubaki & Sakura ! :]
If they had a kid || @awakenfate
send me a pair name and I’ll tell you what I think it would be like if they had a child.
Name: Ume - if you thought I would follow the naming trend you would be THE LUCKY WINNER. Sakura and Tsubaki are both flower names so, you know, flowers. He’s named after Japanese Apricots, and tends to be mistaken as a woman when only his name is read (good job Tsubaki who probably named him). In floral language they represent “elegance”, “faithfulness” and a “pure heart”. He’s fairly embarrassed by his name because dad I can’t believe you named me after a flower BUT MY SISTER’S NAME MEANS DEMON-CLAD WHAT THE HECK DAD (who named Matoi, we may never know - spoilers probably also Tsubaki because wow let’s give my beautiful daughter a wicked name. My son? Nah he can suffer). Sakura thinks it’s a beautiful and very fitting name and mostly likely praises the nerd whenever he gets flustered about it so he ends up liking it in the long run.
Gender: Male
General Appearance: Much like Tsubaki and his sister, he has incredibly vivid red hair, but chooses to keep it short because he’s the family rebel ™, so it typically doesn’t grow past the middle of his neck. He’s built more like Sakura in stature than Tsubaki (and Matoi takes after Tsubaki in build so she’s taller and more muscular than her younger brother), and is just barely taller than his mother. He’s lithe and fairly flexible, but not incredibly athletic (Matoi could probably run laps around him). Generally, he takes more after Sakura than after Tsubaki aside from his hair. In terms of clothing, he tends to dress in robes and other simple outfits. His mother and sister used to harass him as a child and put him in super flowing outfits, and it just kind of stuck with him. He’s too scrawny for any of Tsubaki’s old clothes, but sometimes he’ll take them in so they fit him if he’s feeling extra sentimental. He later becomes a monk, and does wear the proper attire for such, but the colors on his outfits are very muted. He dislikes flashy and colorful outfits, so, on his downtime, he can typically be found dressed in old, white tunics or dull grays.
Personality: A giant nerd (that’s it, we can move on). Ume is a timid, soft-spoken boy, but he has a heart of gold and really just wants to help others but he’s constantly worried about living up to his parents’ legacy. As a result, he tends to be withdrawn and overly polite in social situations as he doesn’t want anything he does or says to reflect poorly on them. Due to this he was well-behaved as a toddler, and mostly did everything his parents asked of him. Despite their differences, and his feelings of inadequacy towards Matoi, he dotes on his sister every chance he gets, and is always the first to rush over and tend to her wounds when she takes on more than she can chew. In the end, he’s a loyal friend and always looks out for those around him, often lecturing them in nervous mummers to be more careful or to make sure they eat and sleep. He’s the mom friend ™, and you better believe he carries everything you could possibly need in his bag or has it in his tent (he is 100% the friend that gives his friends and own sister safe sex advice and embarrasses the ever-loving heck out of them). He’s a bookworm, and enjoys learning everything he can about herbs and tending to the wounded. Overall, he’s a really good kid just a bit of a hot mess all of the time.
Special Talents: He’s incredibly talented when it comes to healing, but, overall has meager combat ability as a result, even when he gets older and gains more experience in other areas. He’s a fantastic cook (which is a good thing given that his sister can’t cook to save her life), and quite intelligent even if his modest/nervous demeanor wouldn’t actually imply it. He’s full of random fact and vaguely useful knowledge that everyone mocks him for until it comes in handy and then he can lord it over them until they’re sick of hearing the sound of his voice. He’s also pretty good with animals, and had earned the favor of two very picky pegasus, and though she eventually gets to retire with Tsubaki, Amaya will actually let him ride her without Tsubaki around (something she won’t even allow of Sakura or Matoi, and, while he chooses to become a monk he would have the Sky Knight class as another option, and if he were to end up pursuing it he would take Amaya as his steed. But he would likely only choose to take up another class if something were to happen to Matoi).
Who they like better: Sakura. He gets along well with Tsubaki, but Matoi was here first and she called dibs (which is fine by him because Sakura’s an angel and he adores her). I can picture them baking things together and doing soft things while Tsubaki and Matoi are off kicking everyone’s butts. And you better believe he dotes on his own mother in much the same way he does Matoi (just always mom make sure you eat and sleep and if you and dad decide to do - son please stop).
Who they take after more: Sakura again! If Matoi is the spitting image of Tsubaki, Ume is the spitting image of Sakura. He’s soft-spoken and shy much like her, but incredibly passionate and cares deeply for those around him. Despite all of his nagging, he’ll disregard his own health for the safety of his comrades and will always rush in to help strangers even if he knows it’s a trap or he might end up getting hurt trying to save them. He’s empathetic to a fault, and can be somewhat critical of his father and sister’s desire to hide their flaws.
Personal Head canon: Spring is his favorite season, and Matoi is honestly his best friend. She used to drag him into all sorts of trouble when they were young, and he would always take the fall for her, but he enjoyed spending time with her anyway. You best believe he gives great gifts on birthdays. He just seems to always know what to get everyone - mainly because he’s always listening and he’s so shy people tend not to notice him so he really he cheats but it’s their fault for not noticing him in the first place. Like I mentioned, if something ever happened to Matoi or possibly Tsubaki, he would give up his life as a monk and become a Sky Knight using Amaya (Tsubaki’s pegasus) as his partner. But he much prefers healing to fighting. That being said, he’s not a coward and he’s not afraid of fighting, but he grew up having to clean up his sister’s wounds and cuts so he fell into healing very naturally.

omg a Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun au would be amazing, I can't help but think the video game scene would go well with Sqh and Sy hahah-- but yeah you're right that's for another time lol
lbh unknowingly tried to give sy a bouquet they did for class and almost had a meltdown when he saw his yuan-ge’s eyes start watering.
I can just imagine SY face suddenly paralyzed not knowing how to react and then him tipping backwards in a slow fall-- and of course the one who catches him is Lqg. This has happened enough times already that he's developed a Five Sense of Protectiveness when it comes to Shen Yuan (and his sister of course, but funny thing-- SY has had more damsel in distress situations in those two years of being student in CQ High that all the female students in their year combined.)
Sqh would have to take Lbh aside at one point and explain the Host Club Dynamics to him (this would be a good exposition montage, with a whiteboard and everything) so Lbh doesn't mess up again. Those are the Unofficial Secrets Rules that everyone, guests included, must obey for the sake of keeping his business the Host Club intact. Among them are:
-Don't ask Yue Qingyuan about his love life (this is ofc before he graduates and goes to life with SJ) Other topics people are not allowed to ask about: his childhood, his relationship with the Shen-senpai)
-Guests should never invite Liu Qingge for tea, unless there's a third host making them company that can divert the attention from Lqg
-Shang Qinghua will drink tea with you for maybe 10 minutes before going back to his paperwork. (This obviously frustrates a lot of his fans but that's who it is. ehem specially mbj but he's paying extra to have more time with sqh so sqh makes an exception for him)
-Don't ask Shen Yuan his opinion about a Certain Piece of Literature. He'll either stay conspicuously silent or give a half an hour rant about why your opinions are wrong. (this rule is fairly new)
so sqh sits down and writes the best fanfiction of his friends for maximum self profit.
He better not let SY or SJ ever find out he's the writer. It would be soooo bad if someone (Luo Binghe) where to find out and the blackmailer became the blackmailed. How the tables have turn, Shang-senpai.
This incident opens a subplot of Mbj one day overhearing Lbh and Sqh talking in the back room of the Club and misinterpreting everything.
lbh: shang-senpai I want what you promised me (advanced chapters and more development with the kohai character)
sqh: hahahahahaha... like I said, I can't give it to you yet, I've been too busy lately, what with replacing four tea sets and the next tournament-
lbh: *looming bc he's getting tall* I won't ask twice, Shang-senpai
sqh: ah... *sweating* Give me a week?
lbh: *getting up in Sqh's personal space for maximum intimidation effect* Five days.
...Somehow Mbj gets the idea that Lbh is pressuring Sqh into giving him... something... And so the next time he and co. go to the gym he challenges Lbh again, and makes him promise that if he wins he'll let Sqh alone.
Obviously he loses and is very frustrated about it, but Sqh gets wind of the fight and goes to visit Mbj in the infirmary. Mbj tries to communicate his intentions
"If he does that again, you come to me."
Sqh is like: ?????? Who??? Do what??? Come to you for what??? He's very confused but he stays the whole afternoon by Mbj's bed doing paperwork. Mbj resolves to get into more fights that send him to the nurse.
Later he discovers that "revealing a vulnerable side to your intended" was actually a good tip. Where did Mbj get this love tip? Well there's a Love Advice column in the CQ High online page and in a moment of weakness he fell compelled to ask for help. (You decide who's running it lol)
she practices cooking and baking with him and helps him write a heartfelt letter along with every bento box he makes for sy.
I bet SY keeps all the letters in a little box :D During those two weeks Binghe was avoiding him he occasionally would take out a random letter, reread it and visibly sigh, not unlike a poor damsel whose fiance has gone off to the war and is waiting for his return, clinging to the letters to reassure herself.
This is how Sqh described his behavior after he caught him rereading one of the letters. He had to run for his life after speaking of course.
lmy is also one of the few people that will let him gush about his yuan-ge as much as he wants.
and what does SY gathers from watching Lbh and Lmy spending so much time together lately? Obviously the gently flames of young love blossoming! SY applauds and supports his little kouhai from the sidelines and gives him love advice, bc that's what a senpai is for. He has to help Binghe with his knowledge gained from experience! (reading tons of novels and manga)
"Binghe, remember to always treat the person you like with consideration, tenderness and respect. Not getting handsy before you've been giving permission, okay? And be careful, you *cough* you should always use protection Ehem. But you should definitely wait until you are of age *cough* Understand?"
Lbh looks very serious. "...That's what Yuan-ge thinks it should be?"
"Of course."
Lbh takes Sy's hands in his and looks him in the eye, solemn and intense. "I understand."
...What did you understand?
"Please wait for me, Yuan-ge."
Wait for what????
re: SY's new "heart condition" has MQF updating his file daily now. What Sy doesn't get is why it always acts up when he's around Luo Binghe! It's not like Binghe is wearing some flowery perfume that makes SY ill, right? If anything Lbh smells… spicy, very manly, as it's to be expected from his handsome kouhai
and too many failed confession scenes under the cherry blossom tree are made.
how many people have confessed and been gently rejected by Shen Yuan and how much vinegar has Luo Binghe chucked down spying said confessions (alongside Lmy and Nyy)?? Even after Lbh made that heartfelt proposal to him when he mistakenly thought Sy was getting married to YQY?
The bad thing about Yqy graduating is that Sy has some of the YQY fans asking for his company, as Yqy and him have a similar "good shixiong/senpai aura" to them. So now there are days SY has to entertain five guests at a time and has no much time to speak with Lbh in the club. But that means he's making up their lost time by going on (entirely platonic) dates with Binghe, having picnics in beautiful parks, visiting museums, shopping. Sy loves to pamper Lbh and now that Lbh has his own money to buy SY gifts (and when he's short on cash he can blackmail Sqh a little bit for pocket money).
In one of those shopping dates, SY went inside the changing room to try something and as he was shrugging of his shirt he looked at the mirror... and there was a guy!! A creepy, silent guy! Inside the changing room! With him!
And it had a snake! Wtf!!
"My snake was feeling a bit dizzy from all the perfume in the air so I came in here to calm her down."
...How did that explain anything???
"Yuan-ge, are you okay? Do you need help?"
Sy raises his voice, "N-No, I'm okay! Just a minute!"
The creepy stranger with the snake looks at him without blinking, leans forward a bit and says softly
"Don't worry, she doesn't bite."
...
Shen Yuan puts on his shirt, not even trying the new one, goes out of the changing room, grabs Binghe and their bags and power-walks the hell out of there.
He has no idea what's waiting for him the next day at school :DDDD

Book Tag
@thevajunglebook tagged me for this meme! ❤💕 Thank you!! 😘
1. Which book has been on your shelf the longest?
I’m not sure cuz I’ve moved so many times and nothing stayed the same on the book shelves. 😵
2. What is your current read, your last read, and the book you’ll read next?
Current read: Remains (admittedly got side tracked re-reading Ranma ½ and reading the latest English volume of Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun but still)
Last read: When Dimple Met Rishi
Next read: I bought so many books in the past month it’s not even funny and I don’t know where to begin. Probably Iron Cast? It’ll be one of the ebooks.
3. Which book does everyone like and you hated?
Back in high school everyone loved 1984 and I struggled to see what was so amazing about it. I fell asleep. Several times. It legit took me two hours to finish 14 pages….
4. Which book do you keep telling yourself you’ll read but you probably won’t?
Haha, the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo trilogy. Doesn’t help I watched the American remake of the first book….
5. Which book are you saving for retirement?
All the YA novels that are under ten years old
6. Last page: read it first or wait until the end?
Depends on how stressed out I am by the book. Like if it’s getting super depressing or dramatic, I HAVE to know if it ends well.
7. Acknowledgements: waste of ink and paper or interesting aside?
Definitely interesting. Plus it’s common courtesy to thank the people who helped you get your book to where it is. That and the acknowledgements I’ve read so far each had their own personal flair (e.g. some silly, some inspirational, some lovingly snarky, etc.)
8. Which book character would you switch places with?
Good question. Most of the characters I adore live in worlds where, while fantastic, I’m better off where I’m at. :P Hmmmm… screw it, I’ll go with Elizabeth Bennett.
9. Do you have a book that reminds you of something specific in your life?
Not particularly. I guess I can say the Darren Shan saga fueled my obsession with vampires???
10. Name a book you acquired in some interesting way.
The most interesting thing to happen to me is have a woman from a yard sale recommend and dump around 8 books on me all for a buck. XP For what it’s worth, I enjoyed them and they helped shape my perspective on God and spirituality as a whole.
11. Have you ever given away a book for a special reason to a special person?
No. If it meant something to me and I think someone I adore will like it, I’ll just buy them a copy. I’m kind of stingy when it comes to books. XP
12. Which book has been with you to the most places?
Not applicable. Any book I’m reading goes anywhere with me, save for ebooks. I hate taking my tablet out in public.
13. Any “required reading” you hated in high school that wasn’t so bad ten years later?
I’ve calmed down on my initial hatred of 1984 and can respect what it was saying, but I’ll always remember it as being the first book I fell asleep on. :P
14. What is the strangest item you’ve ever found in a book?
A few notes here and there but nothing worth remembering.
15. Used or brand new?
I don’t care; books are meant to be read and worn anyway. Just as long as it stays in tact.
16. Stephen King: Literary genius or opiate of the masses?
It’s a shame that I pretty much have like…75% of his books thanks to my older second cousin but the only thing from him I’ve read in full was On Writing. And the man knows what he’s talking about so I’ll go with literary genius.
17. Have you ever seen a movie you liked better than the book?
Yes and because I want to live, I’m not saying which. 😝
18. Conversely, which book should NEVER have been introduced to celluloid?
See above.
19. Have you ever read a book that’s made you hungry, cookbooks being excluded from this question?
Yes. The Girl Who Chased the Moon. I’ve been wanting to try and bake a Milky Way cake for years (and I don’t even freaking eat Milky Way) and the book has the recipe too!!! I just want to bake all the cakes really. Again, the author provides recipes. She knew what she was doing. :P
20. Who is the person whose book advice you’ll always take?
Stephen King. Again, he knows what he’s talking about in On Writing.
I tag @riahchan @fleurdufeu @fictionfangirl @womanlymuppet @zoetekohana @robinsmercy @nopiewinston @memberoftheliterati @youthbookreview (only if you want) and anyone who’s reading this and wants to answer ❤💕

MikoChiyo Week Day 5 : Laughter/Jealousy
(Actually late on my country’s timezone but oh well XD The ending part’s a little rushed, I apologize for that but I couldn’t wait to post this ;)) Enjoy!)
Someone save her from Nozaki-kun, Sakura pleads as she takes one last long breath and opens the door to the slightly familiar classroom.
“Nozaki-kun?” The words slip out of her lips so easily and a giddy feeling runs around inside her. Nozaki’s waiting for her in this classroom, where they officially met and it’s after school and maybe for once he’s taken shoujo manga as an advice and maybe he’ll finally—
“Sakura! Over here!” The boom of his rich voice calls out and she falls to it immediately.
“Yes? Wha—”
“Have you ever heard a voice so beautiful and perfect that it feels like a spa to your ears?” Yours? Or like Lorelei?
“No–Nozaki-kun, where is this coming from?” Sakura furrows her eyebrows as Nozaki runs a hand through his dark hair and a smile splits through his lips. One almost similar to when he sees Ken-san. Whoever this is even rivals Ken-san?!
“I’ve found it! A voice so good that I’d listen to it for ages! A voice ideal for Mamiko!” What?
“Oh really? Who?” Sakura couldn’t help the sink in her heart and yet it kept rising, in anticipation and in a sharp feeling unknown to her because when has Nozaki-kun ever been this captivated? When has his eyes been this wild?
“Let me show you—” his phone rings, a text coming through. He doesn’t dim down however and instead takes her by the arm and leads to the hallway. Who could it be—what if it’s a gorgeous upperclassmen or what if it’s someone in our batch who has a secret singing talent and Nozaki’s heard it through the late afternoons and constantly searches for the owner of that voice and they fall in love and—
“Eh, Sakura?” A familiar, soft voice calls out and it’s Mikorin standing alone in the empty hallway. Was he waiting for someone? Didn’t he get lonely too easily? Wait wasn’t it—too dark right now? Isn’t he scared? Does he need her to save him again—
“Sing, Mikoshiba!” Huh? Sakura stares at Nozaki and can’t help but gape. Mikorin, sing? He definitely wouldn’t do that—
“W-What? No way!” Mikorin sputters out and Sakura nods, strangely agreeing and staring between Mikorin and Nozaki as Nozaki pats his back reassuringly.
“Go ahead!” Why is Nozaki-kun pushing Mikorin to sing? Is he that good of a singer?
“No no no no no!” Mikorin shakes his head vigorously, breaking away Nozaki’s hold on him and runs away. Almost like a cat.
What just happened—A sigh drops from Nozaki and he watches Mikorin as he runs to the entrance and exit of the school.
“Why did you…”
“Because, Mikoshiba’s voice is amazing! He’d never show it unprompted of course so I thought a little push might get him to sing and really, Sakura you have to hear him sing! And his laugh, you’ve heard it right?”
Sakura barely has time to nod, a fraction of a second to remember that yes, admittedly Mikorin’s laughter was high and not nasally, sometimes plastic but still soft and contagious.
“—It’s so amazing that it’s even better that my manga!”
Sakura feels her jaw drop and she shakes Nozaki-kun repeatedly, murmuring ‘are you okay?’s all over because since when did Nozaki let something be more important and better than his manga?
Mikoshiba pants, a few blocks away from Roman Academy. Nozaki—damn you! What the hell were you thinking?! The sharp intakes of his breath eases out as he vows to ignore Nozaki for the rest of the week. That idiot is always up to—
Thump! Someone bumps onto Mikoshiba’s back and he almost falls down, feet stumbling together. What’s happening now—
Out of the corner of his eyes, a whiff of a red ribbon flies through and oh, he can’t help but place his hands on her shoulders and steady her—"Are you okay?“
She blinks, her eyes actually zooming in and out like a camera’s lens. For a moment, she breathes and stays in his arms. Slowly, opening her mouth to reply—
"No, because of you!” She breaks his hold and points at him, accusing some sort of crime.
“Because of me?” Mikoshiba blurts out and the question hangs in the air for what feels like an eternity. What did I do? Sakura opens and closes her mouth, hesitating—what’s wrong? What’s happened to her?
“Sakura—” She bites her lip but stares at him openly—only at him and Mikoshiba can’t say he’s glad for the vermillion violets of her eyes only at him. It’s a maze, the shading of her iris and the small light in her eyes burning through and—
“—your laughter is too pretty! Your voice too!”
“What?!”
“How do you exist in this world?” She pulls her hair tightly just as she does with his heart and what the hell is she saying? His voice cracks all the time and he can never enunciate properly! Everybody knew he didn’t have a good voice but then again she’s never been able to hear him sing…this is so stupid and— That’s it!
“Tomorrow morning! I’ll prove to you that my voice is really bad so stop talking about it and see it for yourself tomorrow at karaoke!” Yes! This will make her stop—
“Fine! That’ll prove how out of this world your voice is!” What are you talking about? I’ll fail for sure!
“My voice’s out of this world, it’s straight way to hell, alright! But don’t say I didn’t warn you!”
“Okay then! See you tomorrow!”
She leaves, huffing and outrageously stubborn on the belief that Mikoshiba Mikoto can sing to bring life to all. She’s definitely blind to the truth, Mikoshiba decides before shaking his burning head and bringing his hands together in a clumsy prayer. Someone save him from Chiyo Sakura, please…

Oresama Teacher, Vol. 22
By Izumi Tsubaki. Released in Japan by Hakusensha, serialization ongoing in the magazine Hana to Yume. Released in North America by Viz. Translated by JN Productions.
After the previous volume’s ups and downs, I’m pleased to say that this Oresama Teacher is back on target with a very strong entry, as we discover just who has been impersonating Super Bun. It’s not exactly a surprise, particularly once you realize the evil doppelganger is not all that evil. The rest of the volume is devoted to the graduation of the third years, including Okegawa (at least), and Hanabusa, who this volume is really all about. Because yes, spoiler, he was the Super Bun impersonator. We finally get a lot of answers in this book regarding just what he was planning to do and why the Student Council is filled with so many broken people. And throughout it all we get Mafuyu, running forward no matter what as always, showing off the qualities that make her one of my favorite shoujo heroines.
The best scenes in the volume, as I said, revolve around Hanabusa. He’s always been a somewhat ambiguous villain, and the reason for that is that he’s not really much of a villain at all. The revelation that the Student Council members, with a few exceptions (Momochi, who’s still recovering from events of the last few books, and Shinobu and Wakana, who luckily fit the bill anyway) are there to be PROTECTED rather than to be the PROTECTORS turns a lot of events in the series on their ear. It also shows how far Hanabusa himself has come, as now he feels it’s safe enough to leave his friends behind and go to school in Tokyo. The final scene in the book with Mafuyu, where he thanks her for everything she did the past year and says she’s his hero, is one of the two scenes in the book that made me choke up (the other being the ending to the hide and seek game).
As for the rest of the cast, Takaomi once again takes a back seat except to provide helpful advice. Hayasaka is also not given much to do, but that’s fine as I’m assuming that the finale, which should be in a few more volumes, will feature him heavily. Okegawa gets more focus, though, mostly as he too is moving on, though I have a feeling we’ll see more of him in future volumes than Hanabusa. His relationship with “Morse” has always been subtly different from all the others, and I felt that if this is the last we see of him, it got a good sendoff. And of course there are any number of hilarious moments here – it’s no Nozaki-kun, but it acquits itself admirably, especially with the various alternate Super-Bun masks and the over the top reactions to everything.
We don’t get this series all too often since it’s caught up in Japan, but I always enjoy each volume we do get. I have a feeling it may be wrapping up in 2-3 more volumes, but for now we have this. Go get it.

what do you do when youre having a bad day? do you have any advice for feeling better?
Tumblr media
when i feel sad i always want to talk to my friends but at the same time because i’m sad i won’t enjoy the conversation as much? or might say something weird and end up regretting it so unless i can talk to my friends and roll out of my sadness with their humor after a few minutes laksjdfaldj i would just wrap myself up in bed, get some of my favorite snacks ( maybe some hot tea ! or some hot drink ), and watch something to take my mind off

Dragon Maids
In which Miss Kobayashi finds her answer.
Tumblr media
Dragon Maid has, for better or for worse, been the starling of the season in no doubt because of its surface level appeal.
However, the really great thing about this show has been in the little details.
Firstly, Kyoto Animation, like always, brings their A game to deliver an anime that is spectacular on a production level. With episodes done weeks in advance in no part because of KyoAni’s exceptional production organization- the show suffers from no supposed ‘QUALITY’ with a palpable level of polish visible in the visuals.
The backgrounds in particular are a sight to behold as well as the abundant usage of flashy effects animation and visual flair utilized as for KyoAni to simply flex their muscles. The character animation is in particular excellent.
More specifically, detailed and intricate character animation bring COOL’s designs to stunning life, personifying both the bubbliness of his humor and narrative whilst also retaining a very delicate human touch to the characters. This show is absolutely brimming with character and emotion as a result. However, it is the directing that I applaud the most.
The directing this series takes can swing dramatically depending on the mood and episode director in charge of crafting this mood. Once again, KyoAni provides directors that are able to reliably depict the emotions and tone that the characters are feeling at any given moment with deft precision. Like the animation, the direction puts careful emphasis to keep the characters in the scene at the centerpiece and build upon it to craft the overall desired atmosphere. This is in no way unique to the studio as KyoAni has proven time and time again to be the masters at utilizing and mastering this style as evidenced by their past work.
Tumblr media
I also need to mention that this show is very much a comedy show. KyoAni pulls a Nichijou/ Lucky Star and is not hesitant in the slightest to quickly cut near randomly between different gags and scenes for undetermined amounts of time in the name of comedy. Of course, like Nichijou, it works wonders to maintain a very high level of energy. I am surprised more comedies (especially ones based on 4koma) do not utilize this.
The music itself was also amazing. Moreover, I was shocked by how front and center the OST was presented at times. In some moments, it almost overtook the voice acting. It really helped to amplify the emotions being felt by the characters as well as greatly enhance the overall atmosphere of the particular scene. It helps to spur the audience’s emotions.
The voice work in this show can also not be underestimated. Each character has a distinct voice actor who really makes their personality shine. Special shout out to Mutsumi Tamara for her phenomenal work as Kobayashi herslef.
A common theme in this post seems to be the characters. This is because Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid is exclusively a character driven narrative comedy. Although I have my reservations about some characters (as will be discussed further down) the show makes it explicitly clear that these characters are the main selling point of the story. Although I am hesitant to say that every single character is entirely unique nor complex save for a couple, it would be disingenuous to imply that they are in any way boring.
Tumblr media
The important aspect of these characters are that in my opinion they are very distinct. Each has a simple yet recognizable design and each is equally zany and quirky. More importantly, it is their interactions with one another that truly sell their character. Each dragon is paired with a corresponding human (Poor Elma...). In addition, each dragon and each human has a different relation with atleast one other chracter in the show (Such as Kobayashi and Takiya or Tohru and Lucoua) Therefore, everyone is effectively a duo or trio in some capacity. Thus, it is somewhat unfair to take evaluate these characters on an individual scale (Except maybe for Kobayashi and Tohru)  when they are better suited to being taken as a whole.
That being said, let us take a closer look at some of the good and the bad of these dynamics.
Kobayashi, Tohru, and Kanna
The absolute heart and soul of the work. Two lesbian moms and their adoptive daughter could never before have been so endearing! Even though both Kobayashi and maybe Tohru could stand alone on their individual complexity itself, it is when they are together and with Kanna do the slight nuances of their relationship really begin to make themselves known.
As comfy as these interactions are, they reveal to the audience a lot of their respective characters. Tohru and Kobayashi are to some degree dependent on one another and rely on each other for assistance. Kanna, as their surrogate daughter, serves a a vehicle to explore the implications of human and dragon coexistence and how Tohru and Kobayashi learn about such coexistance through the daughter they raise together. Not to mention, it is cute as hell.
Tumblr media
Takiya and Fafnir
What I consider to be the second best relationship in the show. Much like the aforementioned trio, Takiya and Fafnir serve better as a duo whose relationship is a bit more subtle and shows a very different side to human and dragon coexistence. Their interactions are often more subtle and shorter as to to imply that although they are most likely too embarrassed/prideful to admit openly about their relationship, they most definitely make a good pair. Their less like a family and more like roommates; which is indeed a different side to the human and dragon relationship.
Nontheless, the two indeed have each others back even if they are not quite as reliant on one another as the main trio. Although I don’t believe Takiya and Fafnir are quite fleshed out enough to stand on their own, their relationship is incredibly genuine and always an absolute pleasure to watch two bros be bros.
Lucoa and Tohru / Kobayashi and Takiya
Somewhat underrated interactions. Both of these relationships are ones of friendship and being supports to one another. Both are relationships between the same species and these types are important to have to implement a greater level of complexity to the narrative as sometimes dragons are want to seek advice from other dragons and humans to humans. Sometimes it is nice to have someone whom you can rely on outside of your immediate housing situation.
Kanna and Saikawa
The first of my small problems with the show. Kanna and Saikawa tended to unfortunately always present and end themselves the same way. Not to mention that these characters don’t really compliment each other that well. I understand that this is symbolic of the fact that dragons and humans are not pre-built to dislike one another but that doesn’t change the fact that these little comedy moments didn’t really add much for me in the long run.
Lucoa and Shouta
The second of my complaints. Like Kanna and Saikawa, Shouta and Lucoa did not do much for me. They also suffered the same fate of always falling into the same comedy shtick devoid of any furtherment of the characters. Its just the same joke (Aside from that one bean throwing bit and of course WORLD CLASS). Its just boobs my man.
Elma and ?????
Elma suffers the most from the show. Her introductory episode was legitimately hilarious and really energetic (Although it could be argued that it was just Kobayashi and Tohru that carried the show like usual). After that, however, she was just kind of there. This is in no doubt attributed to the fact that she was introduced over midway into he show and she just wasn’t allowed enough screen time to truly be given development or a good dynamic. Its just food my gal.
Tumblr media
Aside from these, the only other improvement I could manage would be to employ a greater versatility in the character interactions. What I mean by this is to have every single character have a unique relationship with every other character in the show (ie. Lucoua had a unique with Kanna, Elma, Fafnir, Koabayshi, Takiya.. etc.).
Although this is an extraordinarly difficult feat to do in a mere 13 episodes and even then most (99.9%) shows just stick to 1-2 unique interactions for each character save for maybe the main.
However, it can be done to a damn near perfect extent (see Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-kun). But, I do concede that this is an unreasonable request.
The Last Episode
Damn that took a long time.
Surprisingly enough, there really isn’t much for me to say about the last episode of Maid Dragon.
What I will say is that it is a fitting conclusion that brings the character development of Kobayashi and Tohru full circle. It can not be understated how great of a character Kobayashi is. In fact, I would wager she is the best character in the whole damn show. Her subtle but meaningful growth as a person who can actually open up and rely on others is such a touching and endearing story. We, like Koboyashi, grow accustomed to the wacky everyday shenanigans of the maid dragons and begin to rely on them.
Thus, when the good times and comedy are abruptly taken away from us ala Tohru, it hits hard. Really hard.
Tumblr media
Although Kobayashi remains straight faced, how hurt she is can not be communicated enough. The obvious mental baggage that also makes the apartment a mess communicate more than enough to the audience that Kobayashi is deeply troubled and damaged by Tohru’s somber departure (She didn’t even say goodbye!). This is why her standing up for Tohru is so cathartic. The introverted office lady who has trouble opening up her emotions declares her absolute faith and love in Tohru. Truly breathtaking.
This is not to mention Tohru’s own arc throughout the story. Her insecurity as a dragon who can stay by Kobayashi’s side are made readily apparent in the opening minutes. This is compounded by her blind obedience to her father’s wishes and warnings.
Ultimately, it is she who must decide what she wants and carves a path out for herself. This was no doubt instigated with Kobayashi’s assistance and her finally standing up to her father to protect what she loves.
This is when the sun returns and happy times can continue (Not for the viewer sadly.
My closing thoughts on this show are that Miss Kobayashi’s Maid Dragon is a delightfully rich comedy that hides a genuinely human (ironic I know) desire to fit in yet retaining one’s self identify and carving out a future for oneself.
I look forward to both KyoAni’s future work as well as COOL’s fantastic manga.

Tagged by @mygeekcorner and yeah, I shouldn’t have listened this late in the night. Took forever.
Rules: Pick nine characters that you relate to from any media and tag nine people.
1. Sojirou Izumi from Lucky Star – From an early age, I basically said to myself “this is the kind of weird adult that I'd want to be”.
2. Kyon from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya – It's not really the sarcasm, despite what I'd joke, but more it's got something to do with his relationship with Haruhi, perhaps mostly the way that we can so easily see how Haruhi brings color into his world. Not romantically, just... color, where there was none before.
3. Chisame Hasegawa from Mahou Sensei Negima – Because she's literally so content with her weird shut-in reality that when the enemy pulls the “illusion paradise” on the team, she doesn't even get caught in the first place. And really, what more could you want from life?
4. Nozaki Umetarou from Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun – You know the whole “literally denser than lead” combined with “passionate about shipping”? I'm thinking especially about that one scene with them trying to make the Friend from a Dating Sim happy (it's some really good advice for all aspiring authors I feel).
5. Counter Guardian EMIYA from Fate/Stay Night – Because if I could go back in time and murder myself out of existence, I'd be... tempted? Like, it'd be more like going back in time and then meeting myself and going “oh no” quickly followed by “if I kill you then nobody will know how embarrassing you are”. But yeah, I wholeheartedly understand the antipathy from EMIYA's side of things.
6. Tanaka from Tanaka-kun wa Itsumo Kedaruge – Weirdly passionate about slacking off, even if he sometimes tries to take a step towards making an effort for one reason or another. It's a bit like looking at a slightly more listless mirror-image of myself, and it's very comforting.
7. Usopp from One Piece – Because out of all of the Strawhats, his big dream was the ability to be able to smile as freely as them. I feel like my relationship to big adventures is a bit more distant than his (borderline-hikkimori ftw), but I understand perfectly.
8. Keroro from Sgt Frog – In the sense of “now that I need to clean out my apartment for moving, I suddenly understand his passion for cleaning so much”.
9. Tomoki Sakurai from Sora no Otoshimono – Less for his... let's call them “hobbies”, and more for the mood whiplash. For his ability to go from building a robot out of panties, to doing absolutely everything in his power to keep the people around him from being hurt.
