Ranma VA trivia: Nabiki Tendo is voiced in the original show by Minami Takayama, who is most well known for playing the lead character of Detective Conan. She is also Envy in FMA Brotherhood, Izuru Kamakura in Danganronpa. In the original anime she was voiced in English by both Angela Costain and Elaina Wotten-Costain. Neither has other roles that I can find. In the new anime, she's voiced by Stephanie Sheh, who was Maria Robotnik Mikuru Asahina, Mikan Tsumiki and Sailor Moon in modern dubs
I can absolutely see Nabiki as Envy. Izuru Kamukura's a surprise, though.
Nabiki shares English voice credit with Maria Robotnik, Mikuru Asahina, Mikan Tsumiki, and Sailor Moon? That one, on the other hand, is wild. I don't think they invite her to parties. XD

Sooo...first half of chapter 28 of Shirabe Meshi
A lot of this is Maria being worried over her weight and trying to diet and such, so if you wanna avoid that subject, this is your chance to turn away
Okay
Chapter starts near the beginning of the year with Maria stepping onto a scale. Yeah, she's gained weight over the holidays from just hanging out under a kotatsu and eating snacks
She's decided she's going to exercise and diet to shed whatever weight she gained
Which also means putting away temptations. Like the kotatsu.
The Nephilim was not happy about this.
Of course, there are naturally going to be other temptations outside of home
After morning training, Maria is satisfied with herself having worked up a good sweat but Shirabe complains that she's hungry despite eating breakfast. Chris and Kirika come back from a run to the convenience store...
And have bought nothing but junk food (absolutely nothing was learned from GX ep. 7)
Maria dramatically runs away while the teenagers scarf it all down
She's seen elsewhere eating a grilled chicken breast and salad when Tsubasa calls and asks her to come where she is
...Which turns out to be Flower. You know, an okonomiyaki restaurant.
Maria shows up and Kanade is...well, she's drunk.
Tsubasa has a live program she has to appear in, but she can't just leave Kanade by herself in the state she's in
Recently, Kanade has been appearing more in live events and TV programs and there's been a sharp increase in fans showing up looking for her at the inn she works at so now she's torn over quitting her job at Takayama Inn or canceling her TV appearances
Ogawa calls Tsubasa away since it's time for her to go, leaving Maria with a very drunk Kanade
And that's where the first half ends. The second half will be a week from now.

808: Daniel Garcia - Ideas Unlimited
Daniel Garcia is a highly respected magic creator and consultant. But he is an awesome performer in his own right, too! Daniel helps create magic for David Blaine, Dynamo, Cyril Takayama, and Dynamo, (just to name a few) for their performances on stage and screen and online, too.

Daniel talks this week about some of the celebrated magicians with whom he has worked, as well as how he comes up with his creative ideas. He has a system for developing these ideas that he shares in this episode. He also surrounds himself with other creative types like Blake Vogt, Alex Rangel, Brent Braun, and others who are titans of trickery in their own right.

In 2023 we suffered the loss of many friends who have passed away, but whom are not forgotten. Perhaps as we grow older, we are more aware of those who pass. But this last year saw the passing of almost twice as many as were listed in the magic obituaries of 2022.
Although the list below is not exhaustive, it does reflect the names of many well-known (and some lesser known) magicians, spouses, assistants and magic aficionados who passed on in 2023. Some may not be as well-known to you, but they were my personal friends (hey, it is my blog!). If you are unfamiliar with any of these names, then it would behoove you to do a little online search of what these people have contributed to our craft. If you have someone you think was overlooked, then please post the name in the comments below on this blog.
Those whose names are highlighted with a “hot link” were featured or interviewed here on The Magic Word Podcast. It was not my original intent when I began this journey to chronicle the voices before they left us, but I am so thankful that I did sit down with many of these friends for lively, and sometimes intimate, conversations. You can click on their name to revisit and listen to their voices again.

Birdie Wing: Golf Girls' Story Season 2 Spoiler-Filled Review [Part 2]
youtube
Continued from part 1
Although there, sadly, wasn't a kiss between Eve and Aoi, the series was filled with gay subtext. While some may call it yuri-bait, it is more charitable to describe it as yuri subtext. In any case, the show was a fun ride. It wrapped up far too quickly, with many time jumps. Despite this, the ending of the series makes clear that the game between Aoi and Eve continues forever. There is the implication that they won't be apart and may even play again.
The ending could have been stronger, but I don't detest it. There is enough space and possible storyline, especially during the two aforementioned time skips, that a third season or even an OVA could expand upon. Such a season, or OVA, could focus on Eve and Aoi, or the growing closeness between the two caddies, Amane and Ichina, shown in the final episode. There is fan support for another season, or OVA. It remains to be seen if executives think the same.
There are other praiseworthy elements of Birdie Wing. The music complements the action. It accompanies the strong, flowing animation. The two highly skilled series composers, Kōtarō Nakagawa and Hironori Anazawa, make the series that much better. The former composed music for Gosick and Chivalry of a Failed Knight, while the latter did music for Scarlet Nexus.
Birdie Wing is nothing like any currently airing series produced by Bandai Namco Pictures, or those by Sunrise. Such series are supernatural action, mecha, or military science fiction. Bandai Namco Pictures is known for Gintama, Brave Beats, and Aikatsu!. Another division of the same company, Sunrise (also called Bandai Namco Filmworks Inc.), is recognized for other series. This includes Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury, Love Live! Superstar!!, Love Live! Sunshine!!, Love Live! School Idol Project, Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club, Tiger & Bunny, Dirty Pair, and Cowboy Bebop.
The series director, Takayuki Inagaki, worked on Fuuka, KanColle, Kokoro Library, Princess Tutu, and R.O.D. the TV. Yōsuke Kuroda, main writer for Birdie Wing, worked on Kokoro Library as well. He served as a head writer for Valkyrie Drive: Mermaid and Madlax.
The voice cast are just as seasoned and have often voiced queer characters. Akari Kito, who voices Eve, voiced magical girl Momo Chiyoda in The Demon Girl Next Door, Kanata Konoe in Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club, Touko Usagihara in Akebi's Sailor Uniform, and Sakura Adachi in Adachi and Shimamura. Asami Seto, voice of Aoi, previously voiced Yoshino Takatsuki in Wandering Son, Charlotte Scherzen in Valkyrie Drive: Mermaid, Fena Houtman in Fena: Pirate Princess, and Nene Saionji in Yuri Is My Job!
Seto is scheduled to voice Yori Asanagi in Whisper Me a Love Song in January 2024. M.A.O. (voice of Kaoruko Iijima) will voice Kohaku in Yohane the Parhelion: Sunshine in the Mirror. The latter is a Love Live! Sunshine!! spinoff which recently premiered on Crunchyroll. The voice actor of Amane (Ami Koshimizu) voiced Yang Xiao Long in RWBY: Ice Queendom, Elda in Otaku Elf, Maria in Management of a Novice Alchemist, and Sailor Jupiter in Sailor Moon Crystal. All these characters are directly or indirectly queer.
Akira Sekine, voice of Lily, previously voiced Sora/Cure Sky in Soaring Sky! Pretty Cure and Princess Charlotte in Princess Principal. Saki Fujita, who voices Ichina, previously lent her voice to school president Mitsuki Sonoda in Sakura Trick. Sonoda had a huge crush on Haruka Takayama. Other voice actors are known for their roles in Maria Watches Over Us, Yurikuma Arashi, D4DJ, Akebi's Sailor Uniform, YuruYuri, Strawberry Panic!, and Sweet Blue Flowers.
Birdie Wing will likely not be continued. Similar themes were likely added to the video game associated with the series. The connection to Madlax, since it is in the same universe, will remain a topic of ongoing fan speculation. I will always remember this anime fondly. It may be some time before another anime can shoot me right through, as Eve says to her opponents, like this one.
All 25 episodes of Birdie Wing: Golf Girls' Story can be streamed on Crunchyroll. The second season can also be purchased on Prime Video or on the Microsoft Store.

Parallel World Pharmacy (2022)
Plot premise: Isekai Yakkyoku World-class medical researcher Kanji Yakutani lost his little sister to a tumor years ago due to ineffective treatment. To honor her legacy, he has dedicated his research to developing new medications for such conditions. But as fate would have it, he overworks himself and passes away at the age of 31, only to be given a second chance at life in another world.
When he wakes up, Kanji finds himself in the body of a 10-year-old boy named Falma de Médicis, the son of an esteemed family of medical practitioners in the Sain Fleuve Empire. Bearing the mark of a deity's divine blessing, Falma is capable of performing a unique divine art, allowing him to create and reduce any substance with the knowledge of its chemical properties.
After reading through some pharmacology books, Falma realizes that this world is operating on similar medical practices as in ancient times. He also learns that medicine is an exclusive privilege to the nobility, depriving commoners of proper medical care. Using the knowledge from his past life and the divine abilities granted to him, Falma resolves to make medicine available to those who need it—irrespective of class.
Network: Diomedéa Episodes (and episode length): 12 (24 mins) Creator: Takayama Liz Cast: Toyosaki Aki, Ueda Reina, Hondo Kaede, Itou Shizuka, Nomura Kenji, Tobita Nobuo, Suzuki Takuma, Naganawa Maria, Hanae Natsuki IMDB | RottenTomatoes | fandom info
± It's a small and yet interesting twist to an isekai. On the surface that the original Yakutani was a pharmacist doesn't seem to be a big detail but as soon as we find out about the world he winds up in, it turns out to be a significant detail in that world. It's also very fun that unlike other isekai, there's no monsters and mostly no fighting and it's just a mostly slice of life thing for Falma.

GONZO/ Funimation/ Top Cow Witchblade 2008 Season 2 Review Episode Twenty
It’s Time For Takayama To Battle An Enemy Worse Than Demonic Kamen Rider Knockoffs! Being A Dad! So… Does the tail end of this episode foreshadow a horrible ending for this series? I hope not. But spoilers… Never ever make references that imply your ready for death. Existence may decide to accommodate you. So we will kinda skip over the opening. Maria is settling into the role of the new leader…
