What is it that appeals to you most about majora's mask?

apart from everything? okay no that’s a lie, I hated the time limit as a kid, the game over scene of the moon slamming into clock town was so nightmarish and horrific, and I’d once forgotten to pause the game and left it to run, and came back just as the clock ran out........

I also hate the bomber kid code because I inevitably forget it after not touching my file for a few years,,,, BUT ANYWAYS

there’s several aspects that stand out so much more than ocarina of time to me. the dream-like fantastical feel to it, to start with, especially in the beginning portion of the game, where your familiarity with oot’s models and characters create much of the game’s feeling of being a parallel or mirrored world, with everyone just... a little off, subtly shifted. the journey to the clock tower, which has you in a different body than your own and in a space that’s also not quiiite following physical rules... and that’s before you even see the moon

but even more than that is how... intimate? how personal? the story and sidequests are. if anything the fantastical elements only create even better contrast for how real every character’s struggle feels - the postman, desperate to do his duty even under apocalyptic threat, kafei and anju willing to wait for the dawn as long as they’re together, the reclusive ranchhand who just wants to see his chickens reach maturity and not die while they’re still chicks... everywhere there are people with very personal problems, and they share them with you, and you lighten their load - healing ghosts, taking on troubles and just making people’s lives (and afterlives) easier. the fact you can just manage to help everyone and beat the game under the time limit if you know what you’re doing really makes it, like... this is a game where 100% completion is also 100% compassion and I Love That

what's villanelle's fave maiden powers that she's discovered so far?

oh good question!! villanelle has played mainly with elemental stuff so far, which is partially because rwby like. claims that maidens can use all types of magic, but to date has been really vague about what non-elemental magic actually LOOKS like. 

it seems like in canon, particular maidens have particular elements that they favor, and i’ve sort of vaguely decided that villanelle’s is electricity. just seemed fitting! in so many ways, i would describe her as a human livewire, or a lightning bolt of intensity, so.  the ironic thing is, her standard way of dealing with people who she immediately wants Out Of Her Way now is to just kind of taser them, which actually makes her LESS lethal than she used to be! before she’d just start slitting throats,

another fun thing about villanelle and her elemental abilities is that she likes to play a game of associating elements with other people, now that she can tune into so many of them herself. i’ll get too off topic if i start listing off examples now, but it kinda helps to make her way of thinking about other people all the more. unique, i suppose!

she likes being very innovative with her powers, mostly outside of combat, actually. villanelle doesn’t get as much as a thrill from, say, throwing fireballs at people, as she might from figuring out how to channel enough heat through her hands to pop the perfect bag of popcorn. she likes figuring out funny little tricks like that, things that flaunt her creativity and sense of control rather than her sheer power. turning stuff on and off without the light switch! shaping little ornaments and trinkets out of ice! making little air pockets under water! growing flowers to charm her loved ones! though she wouldn’t be villanelle if her creativity didn’t sometimes have a very brutal edge, so no doubt she’s also worked on figuring out things like “suck the air out of a room to suffocate your opponents”, too.

(in writing this i made myself angry realizing how much good maidens could do for like, sustainable energy. they could power entire like. wind or solar farms. what the fuck. get out there and save the WORLD, villanelle.)

the one other notable thing villanelle likes to experiment with is that levitation ability maidens have. she was still figuring out how to actually fly when last she left denny, but she HAD kind of figured out how to use it to augment her jumps and landings and stuff, and she finds it very enjoyable to get around that way. she’s a proper anime character now.

but yeah, generally villanelle has not done any of the REALLY REALLY big stuff, like there are a few moments where the rwby maidens go all out and access absolutely batshit levels of power, and she hasn’t done anything like that yet. i would kind of absolutely love to find a good, fitting moment for the first instance of her getting Really scary, like maybe in defense of one of the people she loves or something, but i dunno. on denny, sometimes you just have to wait and see what comes up!

What're your fave locations to explore in destiny?

it might be better to ask what my least favourite ones are... (mars. d1 mars. fuck mars) it’d be easier to list!

but hmmmm.

I’ll split these by game, since both games have a lot of good locations! I will eternally be fond of the cosmodrome in d1 since I was very nervous at first and spent a lot of time just patrolling there instead of doing. well. anything else! so I explored it to bits (and died a lot happening upon some of the very powerful hive enemies stashed there, CROTA) and really enjoyed finding little crannies where people once worked or left belongings. the nature was also always really gorgeous, and the sky at night and the auroras were so striking... and the soundtrack often included these icy chimes in the background that were great!!

the moon, which has space and the hive but. lbr mostly the hive. I would spend hours exploring the temple of crota and admiring all the helpful sword racks (in case you forgot to bring your own sword) and just basking in the aesthetic. the use of space in hive areas made so much sense - cramped corners and tunnels so thralls could mob intruders, giant open rooms for the knights and wizards to fight in but also so tombships could easily cut their way in when reinforcements were necessary... also it’s really cool/gross to hear the constant chewing sound effects in the background, and the clattering ambience that actually builds up to one of the heavier tracks in the ost

and as a natural extension to that... the dreadnaught, which is all the hive areas of the moon But Better. it’s immense and twisty, so much so that patrolling it only unlocks after you beat the main part of the campaign and have some familiarity with the ship’s layout. it’s full of secrets and locked chests and bits of lore and boss fights, and there’s always this sense of tension and esoteric ritual to everything there. it is... very hard for me to play destiny and not be on the dreadnaught even if all I’m doing is patrols and seeing if there’s any calcified fragments I might have missed out in the open

in d2 it’s a bit harder to say because I’ve sort of been playing backwards? I haven’t even explored half of earth’s area yet because, due to four areas being vaulted soon, I’ve been trying to finish everything on them first, but what I have seen of earth is just. lush and gorgeous, so earth gets points for Wonderful Natural Environments

nessus! nessus is so cool! it’s a gorgeously alien centauroid, with equally alien fauna - bat-birds? frogs! - and cool trees, and vex architecture, so it has a lot of glowing lines of energy, and spheres of rock and purposeful tetris blocks built up to nothing in particular... but also overgrown nature. it’s just a really pretty environment, and it also has one of my (many) favourite characters and quest givers, a stranded ship’s ai who crashed during the golden age. she is old and more than a bit damaged (her ship has mostly been picked apart by eliksni and the hull is scattered over two areas and a strike) and very lonely and I love her

io was the last place the traveler touched before humanity made contact with it, and it’s still brimming with all sorts of potential energy seeping up through the ground through brilliant blue cracks. it’s being fought over by the vex and the taken (and the cabal because the cabal are Everywhere in d2), so there’s vex tech on top of fossilized shells and sculpted, mossy rock and ancient trees... and then in the caverns there are pools of starry space where a cunning will waits and watches... Good Aesthetics, I will really miss it since it’s being vaulted in november

I still haven’t gotten to the shadowkeep moon but I am sure it is Even Better and more hivey than ever! I look forward to it

the last one I will say is... the dreaming city, which apart from one chest which drove me to a screaming fury to try and reach, is gorgeous and tragic in equal measure. it really does feel like I’m going through some kind of space version of rivendell! every week it looks different due to the curse it’s in progressing through stages, so sometimes it looks mostly untouched, and other times there are giant orbs of shadowy energy in the sky that you can bump into like a confused bird. it is very expansive and there is so much to do and I’ve barely scratched the surface!!

is there any kind of plots you've been considering of doing/working on for any of your roster?

LEMME THINK! this is kind of sad actually but i really have not had much drive to plot with most of my roster.  there’s so much going on in the world rn and my mental health has not been great so i’ll have motivation for something, and then lose it within a matter of days unless i’m hyperfocusing on it, which is! frustrating from a writing perspective! it’s why i’ve been trying to think of new characters i want to app, but it’s hard to get them to stick, too (and the fact that there’s not a  lot of new content coming out right now to Begin with doesn’t help)

but of the characters i do have, i’m still considering doing something auriga-related with dolores if i can find the motivation! originally my idea was for her to try and take over and turn it into an ai-only location, which obviously would have raised a lot of tensions and concerns. as of now i haven’t really decided if she’d still pursue a hostile kind of approach or if she’d try to do something a bit more subtle, but  [shrug] it’s a thing in the cards

i’ve been meaning maybe find some kind of plot with optimus to give the mld something ongoing to do, but i’m not sure what yet! it’s hard to find a threat or problem of that kind of caliber. maybe, depending on what firebrand or anyone else looking to control the rifts via emotional energy does in the future, they’ll have to get more involved in regulating that. we’ll see!

siobhan might be getting involved in a little bounty hunting adventure for a bit to try and help steve find natasha -- i’m not sure to what end, yet, but i haven’t gotten to do anything like that with her in a while, so that might be fun!

aaand i have some stuff in the works for villanelle, but you sent me Separate asks about her, so i’ll leave that for later

OH this isn’t character-specific yet, but the auriga memory simulator hasn’t been used in a while and i kind of thought it’d be fun to do a little plot involving that again, particularly since the whole reason it EXISTS is to harness energy for the rifts. so maybe i’ll try and figure something out with that!

“Quiet,” Oni said, mulling it over. “Overgrown, anywhere thatthe Fallen haven’t been. It was kind of nice, once all the shootingwas done with. Lots of birds. The nights, when we were waiting andwatching and the animals forgot to be afraid of us...”

She lost the words for the memory of it. “It was quiet,” she saidagain. The peace of those nights had made her ache, a foreignintruder into a space where she couldn’t belong, but she had beendesperate to be close, to be able to at least witness it.

“Yeah,” Cayde said, dropping the banter. She appreciated that,and resented it. Banter was easier than sincerity. Safer. “Iremember what it’s like.” And then, just as quickly, he was backin full form. “Really makes me want to head back out there, just...drink in the horizon for a bit. How much glimmer do you think I’dhave to pay to get someone to imitate me for a week?”

She couldn’t help it, and snorted. Cayde brightened, probablytaking it as yet another victory for his irrepressible wit. “Youwouldn’t. But I don’t blame you for hating... all of this.” Sheswept an arm at the skyline, taking in the endless parade of inboundand outbound ships, the crackling comms transmissions and, of course,the millions of lives that tied him down to this place.

“What, you don’t think I’d risk making both Ikora and Zavalawant me dead in a dozen different ways?”

“You care too much,” she said, and shut her mouth with a click.That had been too sincere by miles.

Cayde didn’t seem to notice, or take offence, and she tried to pushdown the jittery tension that had jolted up her spine. “You wouldknow, seeing as you don’t care at all.”

“Right,” she said, and almost dared to relax when he added,“Because you’re scared to,” and she nearly went over thebalcony herself.

what do your characters think about being on denny?

siobhan has been here like. a whopping total of 4 years now. christ. so needless to say, she’s pretty much accepted it, and probably wouldn’t even know what to do with herself if she ever got dragged back to her own world. she’s much more... grounded and comfortable on denny than she ever was in her world, and rocket is basically like her other half, at this point.  sure, she complains about it constantly, but it’s still the only home she’s ever really had. p. sure she’ll eventually end up back in the marvel world with rocket and the guardians of the galaxy out of sheer force of will.

sly doesn’t have anything against denny, like. he’s had fun there, and he’s met some people he really cares about, but... his heart will always be elsewhere. with bentley and murray, who are his family, with carmelita who he is still in love with, and... well, for better or for worse, with the world where his family built its entire legacy? he’s not one of my characters who would ever feel fully... Settled on denny, but he’s also not one to brood about it. he’s gonna make the most of it while he’s here.

nightcloud has spent much of her time on denny kind of. bitterly resenting it. she wasn’t happy in lionclan because she was still so resiliently loyal to windclan and everyone was much more adjusted and accepting of the situation than she was, and she wasn’t happy in tigerclan because she was lying to them most of the time, and now she’s just... alone. and no matter how hard she tries, she can’t really, fully connect to the humans or their world. she just wants to go home. though it’ll be... interesting to see what happens once she’s closer to maive, and going home means leaving her.

villanelle... is weird because sometimes it can depend on the fucking day for her. some days she is fully willing to acknowledge that she is much, much happier, and even more functional, on denny than she ever was in her own world. that she has a family and a home for like, the first time in her life. but then there are the harder days (and lbr, she’s experienced some terrible things on denny too) when villanelle and her limited capacity to emotionally cope just gets so fucking fed up with everything that she just wants to be back home where everything was so much simpler, and she was so much number! she’s not really. Great at knowing what’s good for her.

generally speaking, though, as long as eve’s on denny then her heart’s with denny and she doesn’t truly want to go back, but if her and eve were separated, than a big part of her always would. it’s not really a thing you can argue or balance the scales of. she’s just too... fixated, and they’re too connected.

catra is pretty content to stay where she is, for the most part. she’s more stable and recovered on denny than she ever was in her world, and she no longer has any inclination to go back to the horde or to get involved with the war again. sometimes it’s best not to get involved. i guess if she ever found out that, like... etheria is in SERIOUS trouble as things stand now, she’d feel a conflicted obligation to go back and help defend it, but as far as what she wants its just to stay with scorpia and emerald and entrapta and kind of. start fresh.

muriel feels kind of perpetually dissatisfied being stuck on denny because of course she left her best friend, rhonda, who she was just starting to make things right with, and it just... feels unfair that they can’t move forward and heal together now. she’s trying to make the best of denny and the opportunities that she has there - i mean, going to college is probably something she never would have been confident enough to try back home given that she dropped out of high school in 10th grade - but it’ll never feel like home, really.

for marisa it’s complicated since. well, she doesn’t really have anything to go back to. she dead. so like, it’s pretty blatantly advantageous for her to stay on denny for as long as possible, and not hope the rifts are going to fuck with that. not to mention that denny is so much better than her own world in terms of, stay, gender and religious equality, and it’s still kind of baffling not to have to fight for every scrap of power she has. so no, she wouldn’t want to go back, but... considering everything she left behind and the realizations she came to before she did, i’m sure she still thinks about what it would be like to go back, regardless.

amy is kind of in a similar boat as marisa insofar as denny provides her with a lot of open doors that she never would have had access to back home. but unlike marisa, she doesn’t really... know what to do with that? she’s a little too pessimistic not to take it with a grain of salt, for one thing, and for another it’s kind of like. well what is she supposed to do about her family. she has an obligation to them, no matter how much nicer this world is. though of course, even that has been heavily complicated by beth and meg being around.

debbie really has not been on denny long enough to have any major opinions beyond “god get me the fuck out of here”, especially since most of what has happened to her so far has been complete BULLSHIT

are there any daemon au ideas you have for maive or any others on your roster?

maive i decided a while back would have a phoenix, bc if anyone on my roster was gonna have a special daemon it’d be her. i haven’t done much with him, or even picked a name, but i think maybe he didn’t even... show up physically until after her (second) death. speaking of, they’re separated, because.... you know. dying does that to you. i like to think maybe he kept some of the fiery temper she lost as she grew up. shes very fond of him, though, almost borderline like... maternal? her own relationship with her body and physicality is complicated so shes very attached to her soul and what that means for her. 

let’s see, who else haven’t i talked about.... oh, emerald! i worked out her daemon for a small plot that fell apart. she has an arabian wolf named nadir! shes very much a canine daemon person, and having a wolf is meant as a direct foil to ruby’s wolf. anyway. i think he’d be a bit more serious than her, but also more prone towards showing affection to the daemons of people they like. 

locus i think would have a bear, but i haven’t worked out much beyond that. but i like the idea of this big powerful predator... but an animal that is mostly solitary and more of an omnivore than an obligate carnivore. their relationship is undoubtedly Complicated

i’ve used adora’s daemons briefly but he is a western tanager named nikephoros! a passerine is pretty perfect for her because they tend to be pretty high wound and borderline neurotic, but also surprisingly fierce about defending stuff, so. he is... some people might read him as calmer than adora, but he’s not. he cools her down when her temper flares up or she tries to do something impulsive, but he also puts a voice to some of her paranoia and tendency to blame herself for everything. their relationship is complicated because they dont like, actively fight, but they kind of lowkey pressure and undermine each other. oh he turns into a golden eagle as she-ra, but.... well.
