i'm a huge proponent of doing stuff that's fun even if you're bad at it, especially when it's exercise/sport, but i do think it's kinda funny that i chose a sport where the only club in this state is literally the national team. like there's no after-work beer league version of taido. i'm chatting with newbies like "it's fun!! it doesn't matter if you fall over, we're all just trying stuff out!! i can't do this shit either!!" meanwhile at the other end of the room a world championship gold medallist does a backflip
#taido#go sports#to be fair to the national team they are all wonderful and super encouraging to noobs

Japanese Prefectures: Kantō - Tochigi
都道府県 (とどうふけん) - Prefectures of Japan
Learning the kanji and a little bit about each of Japan’s 47 prefectures!
Kanji・漢字
栃 とち horse chestnut
木 き、こ~、ボク、モク tree, wood
県 ケン prefecture
関東 かんとう Kanto, region consisting of Tokyo and surrounding prefectures
Prefectural Capital (県庁所在地) : Utsunomiya (宇都宮市)
One of only eight land-locked prefectures in Japan, Tochigi prefecture is famous for gyoza and strawberries. It is also home to Japan's oldest school of higher education, the Ashikaga Gakkō, and is home to the Tōshō-gū shrine, dedicated to the shogun who unified Japan, Tokugawa Ieyasu, in the city of Nikkō.
Tochigi lies just north of Tokyo, and is accessible in less than an hour by bullet train. Nasu is the location of one of the imperial family's villas, and hot springs near Nasu and Shiobara mountains are popular resort spots. In the southeast of Tochigi, the town of Mashiko is renowned for its simple but highly prized ceramics.
Recommended Tourist Spot・おすすめ観光スポット World Heritage Site Nikkō Tōshōgū - 世界遺産・日光東照宮
Nikkō is closely associated with Tokugawa Ieyasu, who unified the country after a century of warfare and founded the Tokugawa shogunate. Ieyasu retired and then passed away in present-day Shizuoka Prefecture, and was laid to rest at Kunōzan. In 1617, his remains were moved to Nikkō and he was deified as the protector of the eight Kantō provinces.
Ieyasu’s remains were reinterred at the temple Rinnōji in Nikkō, and his successor Hidetada erected the Tōshōsha in his honor. The third Tokugawa shogun Iemitsu had great respect for Ieyasu and ordered the original shrine renovated, having the country’s most skilled artisans create the richly decorated buildings that stand today. The work was completed in 1636, and nine years later the imperial court bestowed the name Tōshōgū on the shrine.
Nikkō Tōshōgū boasts eight buildings designated as national treasures and thirty-four structures selected as important cultural properties. Some of these impressive cultural properties include the 9.2-meter-tall stone torii marking the entrance and the five-storied pagoda nearby, as well as the Yōmeimon, a richly decorated gate with over 500 carvings depicting fables and saints. This magnificent gate holds an ancient superstition, which said that completing it might lead to the collapse of the Tokugawa regime. To avoid this, the builders installed one of the twelve supporting pillars upside down, thus insuring that it remained incomplete.

“Utsunomiya Gyoza” is an important part of the culinary culture of Utsunomiya City. The city has over 300 gyoza restaurants, and queuing in front of your favorite restaurant or visiting multiple restaurants is quite common. The restaurants compete to create unique recipes in order to be recognized as the best gyoza in the city. You can even join gyoza-making classes led by top chefs. There is also a gyoza association called the Utsunomiya Gyozakai that holds an annual festival in the beginning of November.

There are children who grew up on atla, still praising it's writing, animation, and emotional storylines.
And then there's children who grew up like me, with this shitshow. And you know what? Screw it-
I loved it.
This is me ranting about this horribly flawed show that's a relic of my childhood.
It was either incredibly predictable, or batshit crazy, was riddled with plotholes, and was about a bunch of twelve year olds playing matchmaker for badly animated chinese legends that looked more like burnt out balcanic couples.
The plot happens in episode 1-5 and then 25-26. Inbetween that, it's just tomfoolery. 19 episodes of literal nothing. The people who get close to ending them are literally never the main badguys. They fix up marriages, families, (it's kinda sweet in that sense i guess...) fight the baddies (one of whom they literally HAVE to befriend- but thats just another one of the ✨plotholes✨) and run after the dragons eye, which (guided by their fortune cookie of a master) leads them in a gigantic circle back to where they came from.
The plotholes are so ridiculous that my brain started to come up with explanations that I literally just made up in my head. I remembered there being an episode with an umbrella, and I was sure that it was either used by Flamo, since y'know fire... But no, the fire element is doing just fine in the rain (despite the water element not doing well in the desert but who cares amiright) Or maybe Jinhou since water corrodes metal. But no.The umbrella was Raindrops. The water element. I can't make this up I swear.
Then there is the biggest thing that stems from the premise of the story: They need the five elements to reunite, and become the golden dragon. So why doesn't General Bu just get rid of one or two of them? He captures them regularly, and he has one stapled to his hip at all times... Why does he insist on capturing all of them? (So the show may go on i guess) In my mind, I decided that if one dies or something, the rest can revive them, but that is never even implied in the show, I'm just trying to stop my brain from imploding...
The characters are... Not smart. The only characters arguably smart are Master Yun (debatable) and Shao Yen who is in the wrong show (and sometimes Niwa I guess). I mean, it explains a lot when you know these characters are all 12, and the backstories loosely fit their personalities (by sheer accident I'm sure). Niwa was a servant, and has the strongest powers so she's reserved and nut much of a leader, but still confident, Jinhou was raised and praised by monks who knew of his importance, so hes full of himself and a bit sheltered, Randrop is an objectively worse fighter and student than Shao Yen, so he has doubts, and she in turn has this responsible big sister attitude despite not leading. Flamo acts pretty accurate for a 12 year old with fire powers and a megalomaniac for a role model. ...Why is it that only he and Raindrop gets dumb ass names, while the others get... Like, normal ones?
Last point: This show brings up some interesting ideas (by accident I'm sure) and blatantly ignores them, going out of it's way to avoid anything even remotely surface deep. General Bu, evil mastermind (with gadgets I'm sure they made up while high on drugs) is the past student of Master Yun, teacher and father figure of two of the main characters. That never even matters. It gets mentioned in episode 1 and never again. Why is he even evil? Idk, who cares. Dragon taido. What even is it? How is it different from Tiger taido, and what even is that? Is it made up by General Bu, or are there other martial arts forms? When our characters scream dragon taido, they just start using their elemental powers, and there is no difference between how Raindrop fights and how Flamo fights despite them being dragon and tiger taido novices respectively. Hell, I'm pretty sure Flamo never even says Tiger taido in the whole series, only Bu does. Grub is apparently an experiment gone wrong, but I'm not even sure if I made that up, or was a detail of the show. Thats how important it is. There's this thing where they try to juxtapose Shao Yen and Raindrops semi-healthy sibling relationship (and to a lesser extent with the other two elements), to Grub and Flamos toxic one, but that never goes any further than Grub calling for him when locked in a cupboard, and Flamo being kinda sad for a moment when he "dies".
Also: The whole Avatar ripoff thing? I don't really see it? Yes, obviously thats what inspired it, and honestly, the intro is probably the big thing people point to when saying its a fipoff and you know what, thats fair. But story wise, I don't really see it: Face it people. Master Raindrop is way to off the rails to even try to liken it to Avatar. Outside of five man band, elemental powers, and fiery -eventually redeemed -bad guy, i don't really see it (and none of that was invented by avatar, might I add). Maybe that one talk with Master Yun in episode 5, but wise, cryptic guy is also not an Avatar thing. I even saw some people say Grub is supposedly Uncle Irohs stand in..? Flamo and Grub remind me more of the wet bandits from home alone than Uncle Iroh and Zuko, but suit yourself I guess :"D
Now after saying I love this show, shitting on it for 3 and a half pages, I have only one thing to say.
Its still better than the movie.
#master raindrop#raindrop#im not even surprised this isn't a tag#I was thinking of putting an atla tag in here#just to throw off the fans#and spread the word of this glorious monstrosity#but I decided against it#smh

I've got some ideas about this Reina, if she's really a [Mishima].
-mother told her that Heihachi was her father and she took that personally -modified taido uniform -practices taido officially, at home uses old footage of Heihachi and Jin in order to practice Mishima Ryu (Hence why she refers to Jin as "senpai"). Her master knows what's up and disproves of her learning it sloppy style like that but no one can really stop her. -used to be slightly self conscious of her hair and eyebrows and styled them into something normal for a while before realizing it was a bloodline thing. Maybe she could have the hair pins as a unique customization item or something -Sort of like approaching someone with either severe self-confidence issues or a narcissistic personality type and saying "hey you're actually related to [your favorite celebrity]" -Relies a lot on brute force (Mishimas are built like bricks) where her training in Mishima Ryu fails her. Also gains muscle easily because of the Mishima Brick Genes. Perhaps used to be self-conscious about this also. -Clings onto the mishima thing like a lifeline. Even if Heihachi has a million bastards, none of them are appreciating it like she is. She is the ultimate bastard. Wants to be like her dad so badly. -either takes the business portion of being like her dad very seriously and studies diligently while at mishima polytechnic or is dumb as hell and puts all her eggs in the "punching stuff really hard" basket, I can't decide.
I think, since we're this deep into the mishima thing, if she is also one of those then the best course forward is just not taking her seriously. this is just some kid who thinks too highly of heihachi. Sure she's a heavy hitter but she doesn't want to be pulled into all this, let her just be some kid. Annoying little sister mishima.
Heihachi image pose reference, of course

TEKKEN 8 - Reina Reveal & Gameplay Trailer
TEKKEN 8 will launch for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam on January 26, 2024.
First details on Reina via The PlayStation Blog:
A design that emphasizes the duality in Reina‘s character. We were eager to work with Ms. Mariko Shimazaki, who had previously contributed as a designer for characters like Kazumi and Josie for Tekken 7. We contacted her to handle the design during the early stages of brainstorming character concepts and keywords, despite giving her the challenging task of capturing a genuine martial artist’s appearance with a bold fighting style that blends elements of Taido and Mishima-style karate, while being a young woman who appears somewhat mysterious and has that duality. She delivered an exceptional design. Thanks to the design proposals we received from Ms. Shimazaki, the grand direction for Reina was clear from the beginning. In creating the 3D model, we worked on incorporating elements related to her hidden background and duality and how to shape it into an appealing design. So, please do keep an eye out for these aspects. Attacks that reflect her personality and acrobatic movement based on Taido Reina employs an acrobatic fighting style rooted in Taido, using swift and brutal techniques such as knife-hand strikes, eye pokes, and scratching that reflect her character. She utilizes a special movement called Sentai to close the distance quickly and launch rushes, while Unsoku allows her to deliver powerful attacks with agile footwork, demonstrating a speedy and aggressive combat approach. In addition, Reina has somehow acquired techniques like Wind God Fist and Spinning Demon, synonymous with the Mishima-style karate, and even exhibits a power fighter aspect, delivering powerful moves from the Heaven’s Wrath stance once used by Heihachi, who is now deceased. Her offensive capabilities near walls, in particular, are among the most potent of all characters. A design that emphasizes the duality in Reina‘s character. i think i get why i dont like stellar blade's eve's animation when she attacks. it just doesnt have the oomph, doesnt have the drive and she looks eternally uncomfortable
im saying this while looking at reina from tekken 8. her whole fighting style is centered around taido and karate. when she swings her whole body motion goes into the blow and it sells when she lands a hit that looks painful
theres a similar thing going on with 2b from nier and her sword swings. whole body is committed in the motion. big full spins, inertia, swipes, stabs and easing off of the motion.
then theres pro joshi wrestling. same thing. big leg spreads for balance, big motion, big swipes, big selling of pain. stare at it closely and you can tell its very staged
then... theres eve.
where is. that stab motion coming from. big leg spreads arent consistent enough for the flow of motion and she just looks like shes trying to keep idk some bit from falling out of her vag. what is this. its so uncomfortable. i hate it.

CHARACTER INFO SHEET ;
NAME : itadori yuji
NAME MEANING : ita containing the kanji for tiger, dori meaning rod/cane. yu meaning permanence and ji benevolence, humanity
ALIAS : Tiger of West Junior High
ETHNICITY : japanese
ONE PICTURE / ICON YOU LIKE BEST OF YOUR CHARACTER :
That's his papa, you cant take this away from me.
THREE HCS YOU NEVER TOLD ANYONE :
Yuji is not only proficient in Taido Martial Arts, but while training with Kusakabe and Maki, he also trains up on Judo Wrestling, and Taekwondo. He practices switching between the 3 while honing his new cursed technique.
2. He's Bi-curious at best, Pan at excellent. Yuji is the kind of guy who doesn't care for the gender of the person he dates (even though initially he is pretty sure his type is a woman with a big butt). At the end of the day he is a kid with a lot of love to give.
3. Even in current, Yuji has nightmares of Shibuya. He loses a lot of sleep over what happened. Losing Nanami and Nobara hit him hard as well. When he can't sleep he tends to sit somewhere alone for a while just to let himself cry, often times apologizing to the nameless/faceless people he's killed. He knows Sukuna feeds off his misery, so he tries really hard not to make it a habit.
THREE THINGS YOUR CHARACTER LIKES TO DO IN THEIR FREE TIME :
cooking - yuji just enjoys cooking in his leisure time, and eating. he is a huge foodie and when going over to anyone's home he always offers to help cook, or try to learn different recipes. he also watches the cooking/food network channel a lot too when he's not doing much else.
karaoke - a fun activity to do with friends. yuji is tone deaf a little though so he always scores horridly (and nobara picks on him for it). regardless he has a lot of fun singing the latest anime openings or just messing up english lyrics.
watch TV - yuji has a bad habit of just leaving the TV on when something is re-running (unless its his favorite episode) but he was definitely a TV child growing up. he cant sit through a meal unless there's a screen in front of him, unless its in the company of good friends.
PEOPLE YOUR CHARACTER LIKES / LOVES :
His Grandfather: The man who raised him for as long as he can remember, and taught him what moral compass he should follow being as unique as he is. He often thinks of him when he's going through hardships, knowing is his old man saw him at his worse he would get hit over the head.
Kento Nanami: Someone he sees as a mentor, the one who told him that it's fine to be a child, and not to grow up too fast. That the weight of is actions as a Jujutsu Sorcerer are fine as long as he put his best foot forward with no regrets. Yuji just finds his fatherly aura calming.
Megumi Fushiguro: Someone he considers his best friend. Yuji risked his life for him. Yuji feels the most like himself with Megumi, even if his energy is vastly different from his. They compliment each other despite being polar opposites. He admires Megumi for his intuition and quick thinking even though they're the same age.
TWO THINGS YOUR CHARACTER REGRETS :
being unable to gain control over Sukuna in Shibuya : even though he commends Choso for being a strong opponent, he hates how he lost to him, and his body was seized by Sukuna to do such vile acts. with his body he killed so many people. inumaki lost his arm because of him, megumi almost died because of him, the casualties in shibuya were so devastating because he was knocked unconscious. he couldn't regain control fast enough. if only, he often tells himself.
his naivety / weakness : it's not until after Shibuya Incident that Yuji cursed his own naivety and weakness. he thinks a lot, and often on how to repent, and all he can do is fight.
ONE PHOBIA YOUR CHARACTER HAS : Not a documented phobia, because who swallows the finger of the King of Curses and fights possession every day? Losing himself, his soul, his body to Sukuna is a fear he has every day. Though his body acclimates every time he swallows a finger, sometimes, even Post- Shibuya, he fears losing control of his body to Sukuna.
tagged by : i stole it tbh
tagging : did you make it down here? YOU do it now! (feel free to ping me again for other muses)

Tekken 8 adds newcomer Reina
Gematsu Source
Bandai Namco has released a new trailer for Tekken 8 revealing newcomer Reina as a playable character.
“Reina was a character conceived during Tekken 7’s story development a decade ago,” Tekken 8 director Kohei Ikeda said in a PlayStation Blog post. “She plays a vital role in Tekken 8’s story, The Dark Awakens. Despite her fashionable and charming appearance, she exudes a charismatic sense of evil, reflecting her character’s duality in both personality and fighting style.”
Here is more on Reina, via Ikeda:
Attacks That Reflect Her Personality and Acrobatic Movement Based on Taido
Reina employs an acrobatic fighting style rooted in Taido, using swift and brutal techniques such as knife-hand strikes, eye pokes, and scratching that reflect her character. Reina is a character that emphasizes duality in various aspects. To create a distinct counterpart to the powerful Mishima-style karate, we chose Taido as the second fighting style. Taido is known for its graceful and speedy movements, with sharp and agile attacks. When producing Reina’s Taido techniques, we collaborated with the renowned expert, Mr. Tetsuji Nakano, who has won the Taido World Championships four times. Mr. Nakano is not only knowledgeable in Taido but also in various other martial arts. His advice on brutal techniques helped bring out the distinctive features and personality in Reina’s movements even more.
A Design that Emphasizes the Duality in Reina’s Character
Tekken 8 is due out for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam on January 26, 2024.

A headcannon for Hakumen (Housamo's, not the other one)
I figured I should start posting some headcannons, so I figured I'd do this
Haku knows martial arts
How'd I come up with this? Well, I've been playing a shitload of Yakuza (or Like a Dragon if you will) and Tekken, and I found myself wondering how Hakumen would fair if she were to start throwing hands instead of hiding behind a whip and mind control powers. Anyway, what type of style would she use? Well, she's not exactly big enough to be an absolute powerhouse. And while acrobatic styles such as Taido or Capoeira might be more plausible, I don't think it fits her. And I definitely don't see her doing stuff like that in those high heels (ouch).
I'd say her style would focus on something along the lines of fluid, precise, and powerful blows, waiting for her opponent to slip up before delivering a counter to them. I think it fits right in with her personality. Styles best suited for this would be stuff such as Piguaquan, Jeet Kune Do, maybe a few other Wushu styles I can't put my finger on.
A few examples for how to best visualize Haku's fighting style.

Maybe the last two are a tad bit too fast, but you get the gist of things. And there you have it, my first Housamo rambling. Hope you enjoyed it.
