what were you like as a child? this question will make me cry LMAOOO. i used to read a LOT. like two books a day. i would get banned from reading instead of electronics or anything else when i was naughty (and then i’d go to the school library during lunches just so i could read there instead). i used to talk a lot more and i used to use lots of big words really casually because i read a lot and my siblings used to make sm fun of me for that so i stopped 😭 and when i was telling a story i used to include every single detail without fail (i still kinda do that 😭). i was also a HUUUGE crybaby and i have five brothers who used to tease the hell out of me!! so obviously i just cried more!!

favorite subject at school? english, history + psychology in that order!

least favorite subject? back when i had to take drama i hated it. i also didn’t like geography. but i dropped both of those by the time i was fourteen, took econ for two years (hated it) and i’ve hated maths since i was little. i had to do further maths for gcses and it was the worst subject ever.

what's your best character trait? i think i’m quite good at being empathetic? idk i always try to assume the best of people + give the benefit of the doubt. and i also would do anything for my friends and siblings.

what's your worst character trait? so many 😭 i can’t discipline myself at all. i’ve also been told that my words come off as really harsh because of my tone even when i’m just joking around. like apparently i always just sound like a hater 😭 also i don’t think i’m the greatest daughter to my parents but that’s neither here nor there

if you could change any detail of your day right now what would it be? i wish i had studied a little more. or wrote a little more. but there’s time still!! we’ll see

if you could travel in time who would you like to meet? van gogh. my mum when she was younger. maybe my younger self (especially around 15. that girl needs a hug.) maybe jane austen or mary oliver. also — my siblings and i are kind of split into two generations. there’s a group of four, a five or six year gap? and then a group of three (which is where i am). i think i’d love to see my older siblings when they were younger, because to me they’ve always been very old and respectable and wise (even though, having gotten to the ages they were then, they were definitely not). but anyway, i think it would be nice to see them younger.

recommend one of your favorite fanfics (spread the love): AHHH where do i begin. lacuna by @eoieopda changed my life and i’ll never forget it. my feet to follow and my heart to hold by @daechwitatamic was just beautiful from start to finish. alta wrote me the most beautiful birthday fic (hanging by a moment by @haologram) and there’s also one of alta’s wips which i’m absolutely obsessed with. rania already knows i’m not normal about catnaps by @wheeboo. user @kkaetnipjeon ‘s whole entire masterlist, but stop thinking about me and the second time couple both live in a corner of my mind always. like real people do by @ylangelegy is also just a thing of beauty. i could go on forever, but anyway i’m very lucky to be alive at the same time as these people and so many others, and be able to read what they write (and for FREE??)

literally like. all of their names are just based off vibes LMAO. obviously some r like heritage based and stuff but lots of them r just. what vibe do they give. what fits them. let me tell you, sometimes it takes like 30 seconds and other times a MONTH. like we names jay (jena's greaser) in like 5 minutes but it took up like 3 days to name jesse (cole's greaser). it took us A MONTH to name dean (dre's greaser) 😭

17. Are there any motifs or symbols associated with the character? How are they represented, in their design, personality or in some other way?

hmmm. javi has his anchor necklace that he wears in the show when he's on as a greaser!! that's the biggest thing i can think of rn. but it just like... represents who he is, his heritage, his family, all that stuff. there a whole thing where during a rough patch (which oh boy. there's many) the necklace breaks and he's just devastated and keeps it on his dresser, but after him and nico finally get together, nico spots it and gets it fixed for him :(

oh also!! jesse has his camera :) it's the only thing he has of his dad's (he left a long long while ago and his mom only talks about him shittily) so he cherishes it, barely ever takes it out, etc. if it were to break... he would lose his shit lets just say.... but it represents. idk. how unhappy he is? lost? feeling like he don't belong anywhere with anyone? his mom and her random boyfriends always yelling at him, never feeling like he's close with no one like others are, the shit happening with lucuas later on.... at least he still got his camera. he's terrified to actually look at the photos his dad took on that camera though. he still hasn't

19. What is your general favourite thing about the character? What is your least favourite?

how can i even chose ?? i rlly think one of my fav characters is charlie. like. time and time again, he's beaten down and he just keeps on pushing on bc what else can he do? like he does through so fucking much, and he keeps that kindness and love in his heart. and when he finally breaks, when he's traumatized and wounded and depressed, he's got his people to fall back on, even if it takes him a while to allow himself to do so.

i think my least favorite thing about him... god can i even choose??? i would say like 'he's too trusting of everyone' but like i don't hate that about him, it just pains me because it causes him so much pain. even the technical flaws about him, i don't hate them because like. we put them into his character, we created him :( i will say though! i hate how stubborn micah is ^_^ cause oh my goodness his stubbornness and anger issues cause so much shit. ESPECIALLY because tommy and rosie are exactly like him and it causes so much drama (teenage rosie.... oh my teenage girl <33)

i would say imitator (crew, in meetings can select a dead crewmate with certain roles and take it for one round) and he uses it on xander if (probably when) he dies, to sorta match what he does in canon, but i didnt put down any imitable roles for xander... but i guess he still could be anyway if im wrong about xander's role

morphling (imposter, can disguise as other people) - bc blackened, and he imitated eden in the note?? idk

either that or swooper (imposter, can temporarily turn invisible) - bc hes sneaky like that

Opinions on lukercy? *asks deviously*

I mean...idc? Like, Lukercy ain't really my cup of tea- but it's not like I hate it or something. I don't rly do PJO ships besides Thaluke- and even there I'm just as good with them being platonic. So Lukercy, like any PJO ship, is just sort of ...there, at least for me. But I genuinely love the shippers! Like even if I personally don't ship it the guys that do are some of the chillest, most respectful non-toxic fans in this fandom. Which...okay tbf the bar is in literal hell- but I do genuinely mean it! To share a little anecdote here- So when I first read the PJO books I had this series up on my main where I posted my thoughts and reactions to the chapters. This obviously attracted some older fans who talked with me and commented, all really nice and innocent stuff. Thing was, I was always very pro-Luke ever since TLT. I genuinely loved the guy- to the point where he unironically was the main draw to the books for me. In comparison, I didn't really care for Percy and CHB people, as I found them rather bland compared to the TA demigods all things considered.

Which- out of context that is nothing bad! Absolutely not- it turned into one though when someone at some point asked my thoughts on Percy/Percabeth. I replied to them with the things I said above, that I find them rather bland compared to Luke and that I don't rly care too much for them. And MAN when I tell you that reaction was WIIILLDDD. They went on like an 8 messages rant in the notify section of that post about how I "just don't get it" and "Am so unfair" and just "judge characters on the amount of trauma they have" 💀 Genuinly that is a forever PJO fandom core memory now. They even demanded me to talk about and dig into Percy like I did with Luke because they "knew that I could do it since I did it with Luke". That shit was crazy- they sounded like my teacher wanting me to write more in a poem analysis or sum T-T Fr the only reason I didn't block them then and there was bc previously they were pretty active with my posts and nice to me- had that user been a stranger they would have been blocked SO fast. After that they just interacted less and less with my stuff and I haven't spotted them in my notes since lmao. So yeah, that's my fun story of how a Percabeth Shipper/Percy fan basically demanded that I go and analyze their favs just bc I could do it, and they wanted me to. And, well- say what you want but that certainly never happened with any Lukercy shippers XD Some of my oldest PJO mutuals and friends are Lukercy shippers actually, genuinely great ppl! I think all the hate you guys get is just genuinely weird af like??? It's a fictional ship between two fictional characters, calm down man. Yes I can see how some ppl might be uncomfortable with it and would prefer to just block the tag and users who like it entirely- but it ain't that deep. Go outside. Hug your family. Get some hobbies. IDK just stop treating a fictional yaoi ship like the plague itself. At this point it just straight up borders on weird how worked up some ppl get XD I do read some fics and like some art, mostly bc, again, a good amount of nice mutuals of mine ship it and I'm just supporting their work. TL:DR : Not my cup of tea, but I love the guys who ship it and never had one single bad experience with them. As opposed to everyone else. hello... 😅 uhm, first of all, i truly am sorry in advance for being awkward 😭 but for once i decided not to let my awkwardness keep me from sharing (what i think/hope are) positive thoughts with a stranger on the internet, so here i am.

i'm not around much and legit only made this acc bc like you i'm a late bloomer here and needed as many outlets for my yizhan/wangxian obsession as i could get my greedy hands on, in the big year of 2023... sigh. anyway, as an avid lover of meta/analysis posts since my early fandom days began around 15 (oof 🥲) years ago, finding your acc was such a lovely surprise. i agree with your views a LOT, and really appreciate how eloquent and well-written your posts are! even more so bc there's a lot i still don't know and most of the time the source material is very hard to reach and/or understand due to the language barrier, so having other turtles to rely on to access those, even if filtered by their own biases/opinions, is wonderful. besides, such input coming from a new fan is also comforting and imo refreshing, juxtaposed with that of older fans... it keeps the fandom alive and all that jazz. it's also very brave given how ruthless some folks can be on the internet, and on this corner in particular 😮‍💨 it just felt like reading my own thoughts written by someone else sometimes. i gasped and nodded at your posts soooo many times djskdjdj thank you for that!

Thank you for dropping into my inbox! I love hearing from other turtles, especially relative newbies, like myself! One of my fav parts of coming out of lurking mode is getting to talk to other people. I kinda follow back anybody who follows me, cause it seems polite? I don't know tumblr etiquette. I just follow the tags when I get the chance.

I appreciate the encouragement! I try to avoid dramatics, so I'm sorry for the upset last week. The situation is largely resolved, and I am feeling more okay. I kinda backed off because I wasn't sure of my footing here in fandom as compared to others, especially as I do think I have some takes that fall outside fandom consensus. Again, I don't mean to rock any boats and I'm not invested in convincing anybody that they should have the same opinions as I do. Hearing from turtles who do want me to continue posting gave me some more confidence there.

So, yeah, I expect I'll post some more as I have time. I'd like to post more on dd (cause he's my fav). I'd also like to try to figure out gg cause that dude is so confusing to me. hi it’s your resident irl Mako Shirogane and i’m here to talk a little more abt sham. bc what else is a girl graduating in two months going to do? on her birthday? talk to her friends? please…

(update it’s been like two days since i wrote this I just haven’t posted it bc I’ve been busy so tag anyway @svwhssftr)

I say I hate sham’s plot but I don’t. I hate it in the format of prose. It’s too loose for that. The Dalseum Duet works as prose because it has more moving parts that fit together clearly. Sham is a spectacle. It’s not about the story. It’s about the vibes. It’s for entertainment. There’s not much to dissect outside of like… symbolism. And it’s all internal. It’s not making a statement about anything. It’s neutral on its own existence. There’s no clear-cut hero or villain. You’re really not supposed to root for anyone, but it’s enjoyable watching the shit show unfold nonetheless. 

This doesn’t convert right to prose. But my first thought was “oh this would fucking hit as a comic book” because it has heavy roots in that scene. Gerard Way is a renowned comic artist. A lot of its atmosphere is inspired by Scott Pilgrim. And Strike and Crow are prime trashy comic book protagonists. Hot crazy bitch who flaunts her tits and a little emo guy with funky ass hair and recognizable silhouette? What else could one need?

And the drastic cuts between scenes also makes more sense as a comic book. You can get away with a lot more there. Bc it’s not linear, and you’re usually more focused on the dialogue and art to care about tiny plot discrepancies you would normally catch in a novel. 

But I feel like the fangstitch plot wouldn’t hit right in comic format. They are much more intimate than Trader Joe’s emotionally. I don’t know actually. If trashy BL webtoons can figure it out, then we could figure out how to make them work in the Scott Pilgrim style. Because I can’t picture it as like… a manhwa or a manga. Killing Stalking has a very similar plot and makes it work very well. But I fear the crunchy 2000s atmosphere of sham is so much different than that iconic 2000s manga style. So I only see a Scott Pilgrim style working for it. Simple, but with options for funky accessories and dynamic poses. I need to read Scott Pilgrim so bad if someone wants to spend upwards of 200 dollars on a box set in full color for me please 🙏

So. That’s one option. Because this is very important knowledge because I definitely will be making this a reality obviously 

And AT FIRST I was like “this shit would not work as a stage production” but then I thought

wait… no… it WOULDbecause when I think of my personal theatre favs I’m much more leaning on cabaret, hadestown, hair, all of these shows that are so serious. But no. Funny musicals are fucking GREAT. And sham has SO MUCH POTENTIAL to be HILARIOUS as a stage production. It was never meant to be taken seriously anyway. 

Look Heathers is a great musical. But it is SO very 80s. It’s too tongue-in-cheek for sham and takes itself too seriously. It cannot be like heathers. I’m going to use a bit of an unorthodox approach here. 

I see the Evil Dead musical setup working here. It’s a comedy but it is BLOODY. There’s a literal splash zone in the audience. Need to see this show so bad. I would love a splash zone for sham personally. Even though only three people die. But that’s a majority of the main cast so idk

note from me in the future: I had to cut myself off here bc I got a little TOO autistic about musicals so I’m just going to talk abt the part I think you would find actually interesting. abt like casting types and shit

This show. Could be so fucking funny. I love the Shirogane kids and the Sang kids DEARLY they are SO MUCH FUNNIER than the main cast of the Dalseum duet. And when they’re all put together it just. Agh it’s good it’s good

Bc we know Crow is funny. He’s clever. He’s witty. He’s an awkward poor little meow meow but also nonchalant enough to be funny about it. I picture the scene where Kai comes home vividly 

kai, slowly opening their door: are you guys—

strike: GETTHEFUCKOUT

(he immediately slams the door and turns away. complete silence. give the audience a minute to laugh. he just casually checks his watch or something and clasps his hands or something stupid like that while waiting outside the door. dad ass behavior)

crow, very casually: we’re busy.

(audience laughs again hahaha how humorous they’re engaging in intercourse)

kai: yeah, uh, um. I could. uh. see that 

(very audible squelch) 

kai just kinda hits that “oh!”  that you have to hit in this situation. 

(strike and crow open their door very evidently wearing each other’s clothes)

strike: the hell do you want? 

kai: I just wanted to ask about—no I cannot take this seriously anymore. Go fucking change and come back. Wash your fucking hands. That sounded like it hurt. 

crow: no don’t worry I naturally have an excess of discharge

(dead fucking silence)

crow: it didn’t hurt that ba—

kai: go. go change. 

(hey it’s me from like twelve hours in the future this. This isn’t as funny as anticipated it’s all about the timing and tone tbh. A lot of my favorite comedic things hinge on delivery and shit. It’s hard to get that down. But just trust here IT COULD BE FUNNY WITH THE RIGHT TIMING) 

He also works well for physical comedy bits with his cane and he’s expressive enough to where he would still carry that stage presence when he uses his wheelchair. AND FUCK YOU WE NEED MORE ACTUAL DISABLED REP IN THEATRE. WDYM ONLY ONE DISABLED WOMAN HAS PLAYED NESSAROSE IN BROADWAY HISTORY GTFO

And mako is just PRIME mid 2010s musical protagonist. He’s lanky. He is also awkward but not in the deadpan autistic Crow way just in the nerdy teenage boy way. And he’s definitely a tenor. Because the current theatre scene needs another conventionally attractive awkward tenor lead. They’re so rare. That was sarcasm in case you couldn’t tell

And I love a good musical crash-out. They always hit. A michael in the bathroom type song with him would go so fucking hard. Like just losing his shit about his (thirty five year old…) boyfriend breaking up with him and his best friend fucking his clinically insane sister out of nowhere. 

And the fangstitch subplot works so much better on a stage bc we get to physically see them interact. We get the tension between them that’s hard to capture in images and words. I think the scene where Marie catches them in the car would be prime comedy idk abt y’all though. Many physical comedy opportunities here with them like trying to position themselves in the back of a fuckin volkswagen. I think giving them a dead girl walking esque song could work pretty well too. WAIT. WAIT. WITH A REPRISE FOR STRIKE AND CROW? WAIT. THE FANGSTITCH ONE COULD BE LIKE. MORE WISTFUL. AND WE PUT IT IN A MINOR KEY WITH SOME MORE EMO INFLUENCES guys… guys that would be funny and also a banger. Half of sham is Crow making fun of Mako might as well embrace it.

AND STRIIIIIKE. STRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIKE EAGLE AS A CHARACTER ON STAGE SO HELP ME GOD

We do not have characters like Strike. Ever. I cannot name one. Maybe persephone in hadestown comes close but she STILL has to be feminine and submit to Hades. There is a severe lack of unhinged girls in theatre who have NOTHING holding them back. Strike’s fuckin dangerous and people know that. She has no restraint. And strike is fucking FUNNY. I picture her visibly pissed off the entire time. Borderline throwing a tantrum on stage everytime something doesn’t go according to her plan. Very estella hellpark core tbh. She occasionally screams and groans at random and is very played up. Ik throwing a knife at Mako is not supposed to be funny but we could make it very funny with her inflections and facial expressions. She is not meant to be pretty and ladylike. Which is so rare in theatre productions. She is not the male fantasy or the female fantasy she’s just fuckin. Strike Eagle. She lets herself be gross and ugly and kickass. 10/10 character. LET WOMEN BE FUNNY. 

And don’t worry. We could make kohls interesting. I’m TIRED of all the boring dad songs in musicals LET THE OLD MEN HAVE FUN. kai was a fag in the 80s and noeul’s a grunge enthusiast we could let them be characters outside of just. Old man. Gay or european but it’s mako and marie figuring out what the hell is happening between them. Trader joes can’t be incest if they’re both dead so. Choosing not to worry about the implications there. 

(twelve hour future satis again. Here is where i just lose all my sense and start yapping feel free to just ignore all this bc i gave up on it)

And now hear me out on this one. Moulin Rouge. A show that takes itself a bit too seriously. But I like the musical approach here. I HATE jukebox musicals I cannot stand them 99% of the time. I do not like the music in Moulin Rouge except for El Tango de Roxanne. But I mean if you give Aaron Tviet a ballad he’s going to cook no matter what. 

But what I like about Moulin Rouge is the few songs that are combinations. Do the songs suck? Yeah. But the concept is great. They just picked terrible songs to combine. 

But it’s so smart. Why don’t more shows do this? Sham already has a fire playlist we could cook with this concept. So allow me to yap abt this for a moment. I picked the songs on purpose. Let me be autistic 

I think opening on Welcome to the Black Parade would be funny as fuck first of all. Emo sleeper agent code. And we need to get some time to build up that energy. Let Crow cook here. You know I love a good fourth wall break. We could have just him center stage during the first part as the crew builds the set around him and once the guitar part kicks in we’re officially In The Show. Like we can get Crow fumbling around in his locker and him doing his makeup and adjusting his gloves and shit just… emo ass bitch. And we can meet Mako here! Black Parade has strong duet potential. We could definitely cut the song down though it’s really long. It’s great. But it’s LONG. And like once the song ends Crow like slams his locker shut and that signals to the  audience that the show is ready to kick off. We get the first scene where Mako and Crow have some banter and then the bell rings and shit and the lights lower first scene over

And strike. god I love her. as a character she is so unique. I cannot name another female character who packs a punch as strong as she does. Maybe Jinx from Arcane. But unhinged sleazy girls just here for a party are so rare to come across, ESPECIALLY in theatre. There are NO roles like strike. And she’s like precisely my casting type I would absolutely die to play her 🤞 (guys trust I’m Asian and also Russian guys trust me)

But here’s where we get a little silly by combining Maneater with Our Lady of Sorrows. 

INSANE combo. INSANE. but I feel like it could work. like do the iconic maneater riffs on an electric guitar instead of vocals? and have crow with the first verse. cut the stand up fucking tall part for him to be like “oh but she’s a maneater whatever the fuck the lyrics are” I think it’s so stupid that it could work

3. your favorite piece(s)?

my fav piece that I've ever posted will always be the st5 character lineup that I did a couple of months ago. for some reason I am not able to emulate this art style anymore but I just think it is soooo cute. I just love drawing character lineups in general and everyone's outfits are so fun to draw. overall I think it is the one I am most proud of!

i also really love the jackishauna art I did even though it took me surprisingly very little time. idk I just love that my lines are very loose and expressive bc I didn't spent so much time on it. I will also always applaud myself for anything I draw that has backgrounds So.

4. piece you wish got more love?

i spent a long time on my mike and holly piece so I wish more people saw it 🥲. fun fact I was so embarrassed that it was doing poorly i was like "Flop Era" and deleted tumblr for a full three days so I wouldn't have to look at it. Anyway.

5. how would you describe your art style?

this is a funny question for me because I don't think I Have an artstyle .... I feel like everything I draw looks vastly different bc I can never decide how to draw eyes/mouths/noses/faces in general. if you scroll on my art tag you will see I am always in a style crisis and all my drawings are littered with inconsistencies. but if I actually had to answer this question I'd say my style is a big conglomeration of little quirks and idiosyncrasies of artists I've been inspired by over the years. it's cartoony but not supperrr cartoony and I like using thin and thick lines and I always try to use 4-6 colours when colouring characters because of one tiktok I saw three years ago and I am always adding random hair strands anywhere I see fit. and best believe I am always adding the procreate venice gradient map at 12% over everything so that the colours acc look nice lmao. it's messy but it works for me!!!

6. favorite thing to draw?

WILLIAM JACOB BYERS UGHHHH specifically in his s5 colourblock jacket it is just so FUN i will find an excuse to draw him Anywhere. this absolute king of fashion. his outfits are always so wonderful and colourful and full of layers which is always so fun so draw.

also I actually love rendering clothes and jackets (but only when I have a reference....) robin is such a good character to draw when it comes to practicing texture because of her various leather jackets. it's just soooo yummy.

11. do you listen to anything while drawing?

I find that I acc can't just listen to playlists while drawing because I always skip specific songs so I usually just put on a cd of my fav artists or listen to a youtube vid or podcast. the sundays are acc my biggest lifesaver specifically this album I could listen to it forever and not get sick of it. also it's just so perfect for drawing because it's very upbeat and Sparkly (?) which I always associate with my art.

as for youtube I always find myself coming back to a dgk trio video or something from karsten runquist if I am feeling more video essay-y. but overall I need to have something playing in the background or else I lose my sanity.

21. what do you think your artstyle would taste like?

I think it would taste like rainwater or an apple. maybe a combination. no further explanation on that.

why I like them: could have been SO GOOD in theory okay? I will never shut up about this because "character who everyone thinks is evil is actually just the victim of a smear campaign and some really bigoted propaganda" is SUCH a good character concept and I wish darkling fans were right about him because it would be so fucking cool and aesthetic

why I don't: he uh. he isn't that. he could have been so fucking iconic and instead he was just a vicious murderer. who grooms teenage girls.

favourite episode/scene: LOVE the bit where alina stabs his hand in s1e8. tbf that's more of a fav alina moment than anything else lmao, let me think... okay fr I love the "fine. make me your villain" scene bc it just really showcases who he is as a character and how he sees himself (hint: those two things are not the same)

favourite season/movie: imo he's better written in s1 of the show than in s2, idk though. and I do love his story in the kos duology lmao

favourite line: that one bit in rule of wolves where he says "everything I have done has been for ravka" because it's so clearly Not True and yet.... he clearly thinks it is.... so where does intent stop and impact begin...... it's deep okay

favourite outfit: purely for shits and giggles I'm going to say his black kefta in s2 where there's bits of gold bc I loveeee people being haunted by those they've wronged and I think alina haunting him really fits into that theme

otp: no thank you! in all honesty he prob could have been Fixed™ if he'd had a genuine relationship at an earlier age but he didn't so I refuse to inflict him on any other character. darkolai is interesting to consider though bc I feel like the ways they see themselves clash so heavily.... it's about self image and it's about villainy and law and justice and power and and and. they would Not be a good relationship but I think they should interact more for the Narrative

headcanon: tbh I don't tend to think about him much beyond the big narrative stuff so I'm struggling to think of something that fits the genre of "headcanon".... but let's humanise him a little! I bet he reads really literary fiction and gets ever-so-slightly pretentious about it lmao

unpopular opinion: is it unpopular to say that despite his original good intentions he's a bit of a dickhead and not as smart as he thinks he is? in some corners of the fandom it totally is but idk

a wish: at this point there's not much more that could be done with his character beyond what's already been set up (him being mercy killed so he's not suffering in the thorn wood for all eternity) so I'm going to say that I hope his stans get better reading comprehension bc dear GOD some of the takes I see (posted in the alina tag btw I'm not deliberately seeking them out) are absolutely horrendous. is that too salty? perhaps. idc though it's my blog and darkling stans are free to block me if they don't like my takes
